Akira being like, obsessed w loyalty, but having it as a positive(ish) trait is so fun to me. He doesnt outright say it or ever ask for it, but theres like an unspoken bond between the thieves and himself. He asks for it (demands, really) because he gives it in return. Its the classic ‘ride or die’ mentality; he demands trust and loyalty bc he 100% trusts his team. He would not have baited himself into what would be considered his literal death if he was not COMPLETELY and UTTERLY faithful to his team and the cause. He trusted them to fulfill their end of the bargain no matter how difficult that wouldve been for them. And because of their mutual faith in each other, leader to team and team to leader, they all managed to make it out and live another school year.
He has very little regard for his life but hes not necessarily reckless. Hes calculated. And while hes a bit out of sorts in the beginning with all of these new ideas and concepts, he quickly finds his footing later in the year. And bc he is assembling a team of people who are loyal to Him, he can afford to be loyal right back to them. He can afford to be risky if the risk is mitigated by having his team follow up on his actions. This team has to run like a well oiled machine; any hiccups will get the rest of the team caught or worse; hurt or killed.
Ryuji inadvertently sets this trend, bc he is Ride or Die at heart and he somewhat influences Akira on this matter. And its why he is so reluctant to truly incorporate Goro onto the team (at first). Goro IMMEDIATELY clocks Akiras leadership as something heavier than simply ‘i lead this group to keep everyone on the same page’, but he wrongly assumes Akira has some sort of Thing about power. Theres no real power trip; he is not okay with limiting his teams voices on any matter. His ideas are not the end all, be all of any plan; hes Not Shido. I can imagine how tough Saes Palace was for everyone, but they needed to have unwavering faith in each other to pull off such a mindblowing plan.
I dunno where else im going w this, i just like thinking of Goro feeling some kinda way about Akira (and the thieves) unanimously declaring him as the leader of the thieves fully knowing what shady things theyve done up until this point. Someone who claims to change peoples hearts is deciding who gets to keep their free will or not, and to have a team basically say ‘yes hes our leader and we would die for him’ does NOT look good to anyone! Especially to someone who is quite literally killing people on behalf of someone Very Bad! Who then Dies for it!
#he is my little meow meow and a litte fucked up actually#goro would never want to be completely loyal to anyone#he follows his own rules#but like akira still trusts him? and it makes him so fucking upset#like how dare you act like im predictable#like i would just blindly follow you like an obedient dog#but he still trusts goro#and he still includes him in plans and hangout meetings#bc he fucking knows what his team is capable of#and their loyalty to him; and his loyalty to them#means that literally any wrong move would have goro dead like no joke#i say this as an avid goro lover and applogist#but if he literally killed Any of the thieves he himself would be dead very shortly after#and to some degree goro knows this#and it makes him a bit (alot) bitter and angry but also like#this is the life he chose yeah?#and like SO WHAT if he listens in a bit more at meetings?#and SO WHAT if ryuji invites him to eat with the rest of them Just Because#and SO WHAT if Akira loudly; with his whole being; acknowledge that he Wants Goro to be with them#and having that mean that he would be completely 100% loyal with Goro#and wouldnt die for him bc he Knows thats not what Goro would want#but would do it only if he absolutely must#and SO WHAT if that means he too is being read like an open book no matter how insistent he is that his pages are sown shut#to hear yusuke say ‘no i do not think that would be wise; goro would agree’ and have him ACTUALLY be right like fuck off#fuck right the fuck off !#you dont get to know me im unknowable !!!!!!!!!!!!!#tagging as#akeshu#shuake#bc like i want to find it again

stumbled across your au recently, i just wanted to say i really like your take on an older sho! he's underappreciated i think so it's nice to see him sho (lol) up in places! i really like your artstyle as well and especially the way you draw akechi, you communicate the breadth of his emotions and facades incredibly well
OMG THANKS!! I feel like the only expression I ever give him though is like. Shrimp of a man.
the more I watch mp100, the more I realize just how much that art style influenced me aha,,,,
But SPEAKING OF SHRIMPS OF MEN
Sho is definitely more Minazuki here (and I tried to base part of his outfit on Tsukuyomi) and I’m currently trying to work out where I can fit an interlude where I explain what happened with him in lieu of P4AU,,, bc P4AU definitely hasn’t happened (yet.) but Sho still wakes up in a hospital, and he goes unaccounted for on the night shift. And it’s a cold case for sure, but… someone might dig it up in a year or so…
although we don’t know how old Sho is, I’m assuming he’s probably a 3rd year or would have just graduated if given the chance. Adachi just kind of monitors his behavior post-arrival to Inaba and ends up getting a new son out of it. (No sho/adachi here, sorry!)

anyway I just think they would have a fun family dynamic

'The Majima Dilemma' Anon here, looking for some feedback on how would one write Goro Majima's other half Goromi so that it doesn't sound offensive or cringe-worthy. I have the basics - like some stuff noted from the game, but would like to hear someone's idea on Goromi-chan - how she acts around Kiryu or other people etc.
Tumblr media
ohoho so I think that the best way to write her (subjectively of course) is to treat her sincerely. of course there's the elephant in the room depending on how you interpret her - I'm going to be viewing her as genderfluid cuz that's my thing so for my purposes, she's an amab dude in a dress. as such, I don't point out said elephant unless the point of my story is to talk about that specifically and with it often comes discussion of gender, etc etc. if I'm not talking about that, I talk about her as if she's any other woman doing her thang.
example: if I had a basic scene where she's putting on lipstick, I'm not going to write her as if she's struggling or being incompetent "because man unga bunga." I'd just have her put on lipstick. that same scene could change depending on the "when" too. maybe early Goromi did struggle but! it's important to portray that struggle with sincerity. write her being anxious, clumsy, etc. don't try to make it comedic tho as it'd be inappropriate imo. if there is anything funny, it shouldn't be at her expense.
so, the game treats the Goromi encounter like a joke, basically just a reason for Kiryu to fight her on the basis of "haha man in dress doesn't that just piss you off." so if you take anything from the game, the conversation they have in the minigame is where it's at, in regards to how Kiryu feels himself around her, how he doesn't have to put on airs, how Goromi's genuinely surprised, things like that. with such a short encounter, you really have to rely on your own imagination to expand upon it but even just that lil bit of exchange is a good base. beyond that, I wouldn't take away from the game that much tbh.
I write Goromi pretty much how I write Majima, with all the usual vulgarities and mannerisms since the way I see Goromi is that she's still very much the same person but with a femme flair. I know some do like to write her significantly different as a personality of her own so that too is an option if that's your thing. I project a lot of my genderfluid experience onto her so when I'm personally feeling flip floppy, I'm not really anyone new, but the way I act, the way I carry myself does differ to varying degrees.
so when Goromi's around Kiryu, for example, she's still up to kicking his ass and being a rude lil shit but she'll carry herself a bit more refined, generically ladylike but surface level - some of it being playing the stereotype of a woman, another part her actively trying to be someone else or "removed from being a typical man." for example, if I wrote Kiryu flirting with Majima, I'd make him get embarrassed but in a sort of aloof way with performative confidence typical of Majima. flirting with Goromi tho is different as she's being very vulnerable, very open about herself and when you love her, you love a part of Majima that he may feel self conscious about.
Tumblr media
speaking of the previous mentioned elephant, if you wanna talk about Goromi being a dude, I think that's fine tbh if done with tact. I make it a point in my art to portray her as masculine because for me, the cis part of being genderfluid is just as important as everything else. so I like to see Goromi with her beard and muscles and dick bulge cuz fuck it. I don't shy away from that stuff but I don't make fun of it either. one of my best friends is a transwoman and respecting her as a woman no matter how passing she is, is very important to me. but it's not sunshine n rainbows either. if you do talk about that sorta thing, it does come with baggage and handling that doesn't always have the most right or the most appropriate answer. comes down to respecting people as people imo and I think with common sense and empathy, you can certainly write something well intentioned.
interaction-wise, I think she would try to act the part around most people, maybe being at odds with herself because she's not ignorant to how to she looks or behaves so she tries to be more elegant, more ladylike in order to be likeable, acceptable. but at the same time she's still very much Majima and that crassness doesn't just bleed but hemorrhages out of her. it's a battle within herself to decide how to behave so when people are being genuinely nice, she fumbles. I think it'd be normal even around people she's close to cuz even tho she knows she has their respect, it's almost unreal and she gets very flustered 😌 to an extent, I like to think she even rejects some of that kindness cuz her self doubt makes her think she doesn't deserve it or that people are being dubious to get on her good side.
she's good at faking it too. if you need her to be a perfect lil peach or put up with a lotta crap, she can do it. she'd more so do this if the situation required it so I can see her being polite around those of a higher status or if she was in a situation where she shouldn't be a goblin. she'd be pleasant but cold towards strangers, cautious you can call it, until she can place their vibes. there's an RGGO story (idk if you know what that is but it's basically yakuza gatcha on mobile) where Goromi (before Kiryu ever gets to Club Shine) very seriously plays the part of a hostess and wildly excels so she can very much be a totally different person if need be.
Tumblr media
whenever I write an upset Goromi, I like to make her revert to tough guy Majima strats where she'll do her damnedest to not let anything get under her skin but it never goes well, especially if it's personal. if she's not crumbling under depression, she'll be snappy then pissy, handling anything with a fight over pouring her heart out. she's prone to spiraling and holding grudges, preferring to suffer in silence alone which is very much how I'd write Majima normally.
a happy Goromi is bombastic, moreso than Majima if that's even possible. and depending on the context, very very sincere. because the theater in my brain never stops replaying the same scenes over and over, I always have this mental picture that Kiryu says something sweet about Goromi and she's just on the quiet side smiling in a sad sort of way like she can't even believe he actually means what he says. and he looks at her worried like he said something stupid and she has to reassure him she's just happy to be so lucky and that tough exterior opens up just a lil more each time. Majima is a big softie and as Goromi, I feel he can explore that a lil more freely if hesitantly.
I hope this stuff helps! it's my own thoughts so of course take things totally subjectively. I think writing Goromi sincerely does rely on taking considerations of femininity, especially in regards to how a man would approach them and how society would view that. it's a lotta reactionary stuff and I think if you can empathize with that, you can write her well enough. Goromi is a divisive topic for people so you're not going to please everyone but trying to write her in order to please everyone wouldn't be sincere imo. she's a mixed bag of things, some good some ugly, so write her in ways you feel good about while also being considerate/respectful of course.

Another No More What Ifs Analysis
Okay, so... between wanting to analyze this and Our Light, and the kpop posts that I'll be doing that overlap with this. This blog will turn into Persona Music Analysis hour. Long post. Heavy spoilers for P5R, Proof of Justice, and Mementos Mission. BEGIN!
Tumblr media
Let's begin with some context for the song. I think this is crucial to understanding why it is associated with Akechi's character. If you're familiar with this, you can skip to the lyrical analysis! The best analogy is that Beneath the Mask is to Akira as NMWI is to Akechi, in my opinion. Proof of Justice was an OVA released with the P5 anime (in May 2019) a couple months before the release of Persona 5 Royal in Japan (October of the same year). This OVA is centered around the relationship between Akira and Akechi. Specifically, Akira's grieving process as he goes through the places where they used to meet to find clues about the phrase "Proof of Justice" which was written in the Leblanc crossword. The Jazz Jin, as noted by Muhen here, is a place where Akechi would typically go alone. He also notes in confidant rank 4 that it wasn't necessarily a place that he was keeping secret, but that he never brought people around there since it was his personal space to reflect. As we'll examine, the content of the lyrics is too specific to not be related to the story, and there aren't any other characters or themes I could think are as associated with the song as Goro Akechi. Just wanted to clear this up first, as for some it's not entirely clear why the song is specifically Akechi's (since it's not explicitly stated, and the lyrics are hard to catch while you're playing through normally).
Lyrical Analysis
people come and they go some people may stay with you though I am all alone tonight and I kept on asking myself questions
The very first line is one of the easiest to dissect. Goro, since the death of his mother, has had few stable figures in his life, whether it is his parents, family, or friends. This also extends to his line of work as a celebrity detective, as he is kept so busy that there are very few people he sees on a regular basis, at all. He notes in the second confidant rank (if you choose to ask if he has no friends) that he doesn't have people that he chooses to spend time with. [I chose this option on my last play through and remember it but I can't find the dialogue anywhere].
The doubt that grows in this verse comes from the second line. He is taken by surprise that there is someone he is giving thought to for more than a couple seconds at time. Someone he is... to some degree choosing to spend time with even though he is doing it for the mission. At first, to investigate the Phantom Thieves identity to prevent them from interfering in his revenge plot, and then to lure Akira into a death trap. Tying it back to the first line analysis with the third and fourth line, this dissonance has put the first example of his doubt in this song.
Conceited I was at time I never really doubted myself But tonight got me thinking about it all if I am the fool or what not
There is a self-awareness that Goro always has about his personas (in the metaphorical sense). Goro kind of knows that he's arrogant and it was not ever something that bothered him. Even his character flaws will not get in the way of his plan, even if those flaws are just his humanity peeking through. There's a longing in Lyn's delivery of the last two lines here. He's stumped as to why he feels this way and the inner conflict makes him pause more than he is comfortable with.
"If I am the fool or what not." This line, is literally perfect, the double meaning is just ugh! We'll see this idea again near the end of the song, but I want to take an opportunity to talk about it now. For two years, Goro was the only Persona-user he knew, so he had no reason to believe anyone would ever stand a chance against him. Not only is he angered at himself for allowing Akira to get close to him and cause these doubts but he's also questioning what his role was.
I do not regret with my choices I'm rather proud ooh I know I won't change anything because I can only be me so
I had already written parts of this analysis like two months ago but I saw a post written by @vashtijoy here on how Mementos mission has a sneaky reference to this song. So check that out! It's something I never noticed.
Before Shido's palace, there's an acceptance of the circumstances in this line, that he has to do it regardless of what he may think because he has a goal. Throughout the third semester, we see an Akechi that is alive and tried to deal with the consequences of his actions before Maruki took that opportunity away from him. But he does not show remorse for what he did, that it was the only path he could have chosen with the information he knew.
How can I be so sure? at a crossroads I'm afraid too But I can't let fear get the best of me Someone once said burn my dread babe
This verse... this verse makes me wanna cry. I cannot even lie to you. The direct statement that there is fear behind the fact that he doesn't want to kill Akira and the acknowledgement in the last two lines that one of them has to end up dead. That he is also acknowledging that Akira must also be fearful, by playing with fire through continuing to lead the Phantom Thieves. The doubt is consuming him in this verse. The crossroad offers two choices, one where he sacrifices himself for Akira and one where Akira no longer is with him. The reference to Persona 3 really carries the weight here with this theory. I would explain more but I only spoiler tagged for P5R so we move.
Who knows what tomorrow holds? just wanna live my life the way I want what fills up my soul is passionate music that makes me want to sing
The first line, to me, reads that he's given up on allowing himself to think if there's another way to resolve his doubts. That there's another path where neither of them die and that it can't exist. He wants to live freely, which is what he thinks is assured once his revenge plan is complete. In another world, maybe it was one where both of them could be together without this chasing them. The last two lines I don't have a particular opinion about, but I think they add to the fact that Goro has given up entertaining other possibilities.
my story will be starring me just like yours ooh ooh who knows when will it end what matters most is how you bring joy to life so
I think about confidant rank 8. It feels written all over this line, and we come back to an idea that was present with "If I am the fool or what not." I think there's a bit of that 'hatred' that he talks about, that he's resentful that Akira story will end differently than his own. He's waiting for the day to come and resolves by centering himself, that once his goal is achieved, that he will achieve joy for the first time in his life. Refusing to acknowledge that Akira was showing him companionship that brought him happiness for one last time.
The Theme of Doubt
One of the things I have had trouble defining is what the doubt Goro is referring to is, or why the doubt is there. It's one of the things that is left in the air. Speculating here a little more than I usually will try to: the doubt stems from the fact that Goro is enjoying his time with the protagonist and is unsure what that means. In terms of what he is doubting, I'm not sure, I don't think he is referring to his plan, but rather the fact that Akira is caught up in it at all. His resolve to complete his plan never changes, but he wishes he could choose to leave him out of this. This tracks with a line stated by the SIU director which implies that some of the cruel actions carried out by the conspiracy/antisocial force by Akechi are not entirely his idea. He still carries them out without hesitation, but he never thinks of them himself. One of the reasons I wrote out this analysis was to see if there were any opinions on what this part of the song meant since I have trouble wrapping my head around it myself.
Goro, in base game and third semester, never shows any form of doubt or regret to the protagonist directly, only brief flickers and implications from dialogue. But this song is layered with it and bashes you in by telling you that it is what he is struggling with most when it comes to executing his plan. It's what nags at me even though I've tried to analyze this song a couple of times on my own.
IN CONCLUSION: I obviously hate goro akechi. (lying is fun)

if you're comfortable, i would love to know more about the akechi npd headcanon. i think it's a rlly interesting take on his character and i wanna learn more abt npd bc i have bpd and ig im interested in what people experience with the other cluster b personality disorders? i just kinda wanna know why you think he has it and also maybe some of the mental stuff he has to experience with it. doesn't have to be detailed or personal i dont wanna make u uncomfy! i just cant stop thinking abt this hc haha :)
im actually on a mental health break right now, but this ask intrigued me so im answering it anyway. first off thank you for staying kind throughout the whole thing :)
its kind of hard for me to really describe why i think a character has/is something, because things like personality disorders are still a wide spectrum and every person experiences things differently, and i dont wanna make it seem like theres a one-way to have npd, but im gonna try anyway!
there is a site which helped me immensely throughout my self-diagnosis, so if you want to read more about the topic than what im gonna say here, here u go:
lets start simple and the thing that makes it most obvious to me: the engine room dialogue.
people with npd can heavily rely on other people for their self-esteem, because narcissists usually have a very low one. thats why they take on many tasks ("i was extremely particular about my life, my grades, my public image—so someone would want me around!") and might overwork themselves for more praise and acknowledgement ("you wanted to be acknowledged, didn't you? to be loved?") because its what they need to not constantly crash. a crash is something that happens when you dont get enough supply—which can be words of affection, praise, acknowledgement, etc—and you internalize it, doubt yourself, feel disgusting and generally you get to a really low point. this is just speculation, but i can see goro having a ton of those, especially during the time the phantom thieves get popular and he becomes public enemy nr 1. thats also why i drew him thinking "i really need supply rn but i'd rather die than ask for attention" because vulnerability is also a big thing people with npd can struggle with. we dont want to be seen as weak—our narcissism is essentially a shield, so we're seen as tough, when in reality, our egos can be very fragile.
one thing that the engine room makes very clear and also other interactions goro has with akira, is that hes very envious of others who have had it better than him. especially someone like akira, who was thrown away by society just like he was, was able to move past it, found friends and is acknowledged by many people. goro is jealous of it all, and thats the thing; people with npd can feel like they're supposed to be special ( and to me, with goro explaining how he got his personas, and how he often calls others stupid, its clear that he does feel that way about himself to a certain degree ) and anyone who threatens that status, anyone who seems much more special than we are is seen as a legitimate threat. its an ugly feeling and it can make us hate even those we love for some time.
this attributes to dysregulation of our emotions too. people with npd often feel their emotions, especially negative ones, way more intense than they actually should be and have difficulty calming down due to that. negative emotions often linger for a long period of time and its hard to move on so we hold grudges. now this might come to no surprise to anyone that goro is a very angry and sad person. especially in the engine room its clear that even after the others extend their hands out to him, its difficult for him to comprehend and he still acts rather mean and calls them idiots for trying to "save" him. when someone with npd is experiencing a multitude of negative emotions, it may cause them to avoid other people or act aggressive towards them because they feel trapped. theres many explanations as to why goro is the way he is in the 3rd semester, and i dont think only one of them has to be correct, but i do think that with the knowledge of whats happening ( like: being under the control of someone else again, or having to work with people who are unpredictable and who have seen you at your lowest point ) makes him act out to keep all of them, especially akira, at bay.
in the duel against akira—im sorry i cant really quote it, i just have a general idea of it in my head rn—i read what he says in a way that makes it clear that he struggles with a superiority AND inferiority complex, which sounds stupid at first i know, but its fairly easy to explain. like i already said, a narcissist's self-esteem is usually pretty low and we rely on others to know how to feel about ourselves. theres two traits of npd that are necessary traits to have: being self-centered and feeling entitled to good treatment, and seeking admiration from others/liking to be the center of attention. so there is some kind of superiority complex going on, at least thats what i would call it in goro's ( and my ) case. we can feel on top of the world in one moment, but once we have a crash or experience intense negative emotions, its back to being the worst human being on earth. i dont think its ooc to say that goro hates himself, as some like to claim he only ever thinks hes better than everyone else. i think that just attributes to harmful stigma. with everything goro experiences in life, coping with narcissism to hide a fragile sense of being just makes sense to me.
theres more i could probably add here but this thing is long enough as is. please do keep in mind that many of my headcanons for goro are me projecting—but that doesnt mean theres no basis for it in canon as well, as i've tried to explain here. at first i actually thought he could have bpd, but i dont know enough about it to really judge that—so it could still very well be that, or both, i dont really know how it works! im rather new to this as well, and at first i was scared of doing any research because npd is so heavily stigmatized. i wish there were more people like you, anon.
if you have any more questions feel free to ask them :)

Goro Takemura x Fem!V
Tumblr media
Author’s Note: This is pretty general, no specific background or fighting style for V, just the random Goro Headcanons I have. I’ll share my many ideas with my own personal V’s at a later date but for now, just wanna get my love for this guy out in the open. By the way, we need more gifs of this guy. People who know how to do that, get on it.
So this will all be taking place during the game. Our man is on the run and wearing that wonderful leather coat. V is one of the few things keeping him sane during his time in Night City. His hatred for this city plus the stress of everything going on may have possibly taken him down if not for the thief he pulled out of a landfill.
Speaking of, whenever he thinks back to that moment, V weakly calling for his aid only for him to viscously backhand her, he feels a deep pan of regret. If it ever gets brought up he will definitely apologize for it.
Goro is a very traditional guy and I feel like that would also extend to a romance with him. For example, it is customary to give a lady flowers, but seeing as how those are hella expensive and super difficult to get, I imagine Goro leaving V with little origami flowers.
He’d definitely be willing to teach V how to do origami. Showing her exactly how to fold a simple piece of paper in order to create beautiful figurines.
Goro would actually be willing to teach V a lot of things if she asked. He did mentor Oda and I feel like he enjoys teaching. He’d teach V how to cook (she definitely says she’s not letting him go back to Arasaka, she’s keeping him for the food alone) and some fighting moves.
All lessons are filled with varying degrees of sexual tension.
Goro is not used to being cared for. He was trained to be someone else’s protector and he did that for several years. So having someone provide for and protect him is a definite change. Not a bad one, though I could definitely see him as being easy to confuse or even overwhelm with kind gestures. He’s just not used to this.
Seriously though, he needs a hug. Several hugs.
An ideal date with him would probably be a night in where he cooks a meal he can share with V that ends with snuggling on the couch while a good movie plays. Whether V is laying on his chest as he runs his fingers through or hair or he lays on her chest as she runs her fingers through his hair, he is happy.
If Goro laying his head on V’s chest, listening to her heartbeat. He finds it the most soothing sound in the world. He just slowly sinks deeper and deeper into her embrace. If she starts stroking his hair and rubbing his back his eyes almost roll back into his skull. He’s also out like a light. He hasn’t slept that good in a long time, even before Saburo was murdered.
I could see V stealing his shirts in the morning. Once a thief, always a thief. Goro believes she looks better in his shirts than he does.
Goro snores. He firmly denies it but he does. It’s a fairly quite but deep rumble. It only happens when he’s in a deep sleep, not when he’s still alert incase the enemy comes knocking. V loves it because that noise means that he’s actually resting.

Omg yes, the reason I don't read much Shuake fic is everyone seemed to settle into "the third semester is Goro's TRUE self" and I don't think that's accurate. We only see him in situations where he's under duress or still being manipulated or has a mask up. Third sem he still has a mask up because he doesn't want Akira to falter and chose the fake reality. I completely disagree it's how Goro always is and always will be, and fandom just reduces him to that so :|
Oh I feel that sm actually
Like I'm currently reviewing all of my Goro writing because,, we see so little of his honest self I'm never sure that what I'm writing is accurate.
I often like to think that Goro's speech on choosing your own path and moving on from mistakes is very aimed towards Ren. Deep down, Goro probably knows Ren did miss/mourn him (his self loathing just won't admit it). I feel like Goro really is trying his best to seem rude and manic so that Ren won't grieve him again, if that makes sense.
Other than that, Goro probably hates being used as leverage by Maruki against Ren, and that's just another source of stress...
Give this boy a break!!....
Then again, everyone always lies to everyone to some degree, the only person who will honestly know Goro to his fullest is himself. In some way, he'll always have on a mask, just like any other character. The concept itself of a "true self" is a very weird one tbh,,
The Black Mask and Detective Prince act are both lies but they mean something in context. Prince act is when he really needed to bring people closer, Black Mask is when he wanted to push people away.
Anyways I ramble too much my bad,,,

Jun Kurosu is who Goro Akechi could have been, if things had gone differently. Conversely, Jun could have ended up like Akechi, if he had not been saved by his friends.
Jun and Akechi come from similar backgrounds--essentially raised by a single, emotionally-unstable parent after their father abandonned them.
Both of them ended up possessing a dangerous power that they ultimately used for revenge. They were also misused and manipulated by their "fathers" to further a perilous plot that would have either resulted in the extinction or enslavement of humanity.
They have complex, quasi-romantic feelings for the protagonist that straddle the line between love and hate.
The key difference, however, was that Jun had a support system. Despite everything he had done, Tatsuya, Lisa, Eikichi, and Maya understood his pain and saved him from his struggles.
In contrast, Akechi has no such support system. After his mother's death, he was entirely alone. He had no friends or family, and ended up being ensared by Shido.
In the engine room, Akechi even makes mention of this, wishing that he could have met the protagonist sooner. If he had, the protagonist could have spared him from going down his twisted path.
Similarly, without his friends, Jun likely would have suffered the same fate as Akechi. His desire for revenge would have consumed him, leaving him vulnerable to his "father"--who would have later disposed of him.
Furthermore, at the end of P2:IS, the team collectively decides to reset reality after Maya's death. There's no doubt that they would have done the same thing if it were Jun who had died. For their friend (and the salvation of humanity) they were willing to erase all of their memories--their laughter, their heartache, their strife--and start again.
The Phantom Thieves are faced with a similar situation in Persona 5 Royal: either accept Maruki's ideal reality, or return things to how they originally were. At the time, they did not know that choosing the latter would result in Akechi's disappearance. The question is: if they had known, would it have changed anything?
It's unlikely. In contrast with the team in P2, none of the Phantom Thieves had an especially strong bond with Akechi. With the exception of the protagonist, most of them were either indifferent or downright despised him. They felt some degree of pity for him, but could not accept him or forgive his crimes. At the end of Royal, upon visiting Muhen at Jazz Jin, the protagonist even questions whether he and Akechi were truly friends.
So, even knowing that their choice would lead to Akechi's demise, their decision would not have changed.
In the end, Akechi turned out the way he did because he was alone. No one truly cared about him. His mind became warped, and he lost sight of himself.
Maybe, if he had met the protagonist sooner (before he killed Wakaba) he might have realized his deviance and corrected himself. He might have prevented Shido's rise to power, and all the events triggered thereafter.
He might have survived.

17 for the bbs???? ♥
Thank you! <3
From the soft otp prompt.
17- Write about your ship sharing hot drinks together.
───── ⑅ ♡ ⑅ ─────
Goro watched on as he saw Vaughn inching closer and closer to the fire, any closer and he'd be sitting directly in it. It was cold in the badlands, all the Aldecaldos were bundled in their winter best. Vaughn absolutely hated it, realizing the colder it got, the worse he felt.
He held his hands up near the flames to try to warm them. His hands always froze up the most, and his nose was practically numb, and before he could stick his nose in the flames, Goro sped walked over and plopped down next to him, and mug in his hand that was pipping hot and steaming.
"You could probably use this." He held the cup out for Vaughn to take, but Vaughn kept his focus on the fire. "V?"
"Huh? Sorry.. I guess the cold wind is really getting to me.. thank you." He gently grabbed the mug from Goro's gloved hands and held it close to his chest, letting the steam hit his nose.
Goro watched him with interest, his lips were shivering, his eyes were clenched shut, but the moment the steam hit his face, he became more at ease. Goro always knew Vaughn was dramatic, it couldn't have been less than 55 degrees, maybe even 60, but Goro also knew it was a good opportunity to scoot closer to his lover, putting an arm around his backside and hoping his shivering would let up some.
"It is meant to drink you know." Goro spoke up.
"Do you even know what it is?" Vaughn side eyed Goro, responding in almost a chuckle. Vaughn got his answer when Goro didn't say anything. It was always funny to see how clueless Goro was when it came to anything food or drink related from the city. "It's hot chocolate."
"It looks like liquid dirt.. what are those white things?" Goro pointed his finger at the little white floaties sticking to the side of the mug, Vaughn couldn't help but bust out laughing.
"You've never seen marshmallows before? I thought you were a nomad."
"Those are marshmallows? Please, say no more, V." Goro waved his hand away and looked around camp, so many people had mugs in their hands, every sip of their drink they took made it look like they were in heaven.
"Here, try some. I find it hard to believe you've never had this. Not even in Japan?" Vaughn started lifting the mug up to Goro's mouth, his fingers sliding through the handle effortlessly, while his other hand lay smoothly on Goro's thigh.
Goro's head leaned back, he looked at Vaughn with squinted eyes. "No.. never. It was not something I sought out."
"You can't run from your problems anymore, just take a sip." Vaughn put the mug directly to Goro's lips.
"I can get up and walk away, you know?" Slowly, Goro moved his face closer to the mug, sighing and rolling his eyes before partially opening his mouth.
"I'd never let you, see where my hand is?" The grip on Goro's thigh got tighter, a tiny grunt escaping his mouth before he finally opened his mouth more and took a small sip.
The remnants of the liquid were traced along Goro's mustache, an adorable moment Vaughn wished he could have captured through photography.
"Well?" Vaughn asked, waiting for Goro's lecture about how awful it was.
"It is.... not terrible. I suppose I can see why people drink it when it is cold outside."
"Not the answer I was expecting, but I'll take it. C'mere you got some on your face." Vaughn took his thumb and wiped the chocolate drink off of him, before caressing his cheek with his other thumb. He leaned in and kissed Goro lazily before burying his head in the nape of his neck, letting the warmth of his lover take away any remaining shivers he had.
"You want more?" Vaughn asked, eyes unintentionally shutting, the relaxation setting in.
"No.."
"You hate it don't you?"
"Yes, V."
Both burst out laughing, Vaughn set the mug on the side of him, instead focusing on Goro's warmth and the fire in front of them.
One step at a time.

Recently became ill about akeshima again I've never been into a ship so persistent to remain in my brain my entire life I just LOVE akeshima... the 'us against the world' vibes they have...... (very delusional)
Akechi could probably see himself in mishima to some degree. He was a nobody. Ignored. Bullied. Abused. On top of that made to do dirty works for his abuser. And his parents did nothing about it. They have similar goals of being acknowledged and both envy the protagonist for having something they wanted. Fuck. If you ignore his general lameness mishima IS akechi if he were powerless.
In my head initially they'd speak specifically to engage in psychological warfare- mishima trying to sabotage the anti-phantom thieves detective price and akechi trying to take advantage of the phansite admin. Boy I sure hope they don't get too attached to each other through intimate understanding and feeding into each other's need for validation and acknowledgement!!
Personally I like to think that mishima saw right through akechi (because he's good at reading people and atmosphere) and told him to drop the bullshit on their first ever meeting too jcjdjjfjdd... And that's why akechi has been his true mean self to him ever since. Mishima would take that over the fake princely farce anytime though. Major point too. He isn't scared of mishima leaving him once he know the real akechi goro because mishima never liked the face he put on for the public in the first place <3 (this does not apply to the killings. He became MORE scared of mishima leaving him if he ever knew about the killings and what he did to the protagonist)
He does mellow out the more he spends time with this little loser though but still. It's the real him. He actually genuinely grew fond of this critter and that's probably going to be his downfall but good god if anything happens to mishima he will kill everyone in the room and then himself
OH YEAH I FORGOT. THEM CALLING EACH OTHER BY FIRST NAMES TOO. THESE TWO ARE THE ONLY STUDENT CONFIDANTS OUT THERE ALWAYS CALLED BY THEIR LAST NAMES

GOD PLS ANYRHING ABOUT YATA YOU FEEL LIKE TELLING US. I want to eat all of ur takes. But if you need something specific I’d love your take on the Zenigata & Yata Dynamic both inside & outside of work hours. God knows Zeni needs someone to chaperone his ass
YES!!!! YES!!!!! YATA TIME!! something something blue hair and pronouns joke here
i think he’s the youngest of his family, which stacked up against him perpetually being ‘the new guy’ means that he feels people… not BABY him he’s a grown man but like. don’t expect much of him. he feels like he can get away with doing less and doesn’t like that. it’s part of why he’s so overzealous at times BUT ON THE PLUS SIDE IT MEANS YATA’S PROBABLY GOT AT LEAST ONE NIECE OR NEPHEW and i think he’d take to that more than you’d initially expect. like he’s not in a rush to have his OWN child by any means but i bet the kids get so excited when they hear he’s coming. uncle goro always has the coolest stories (that he’s heavily censored because maybe the 5yo doesn’t need to know that he nearly got his head caved in once)
yata is very much the simple kind of person you run into and appreciate every day without realizing. the guy who holds open the elevator when he sees you trying to reach it, the guy who holds open the door even if there’s like, five people all coming in, the guy who motions for you to go ahead and turn on the road even though he’s technically got the right of way. and he hasn’t even really realized this himself. like, he might not even be smiling as he’s doing it, he doesn’t think anything of it. but if you turned that on its head, and someone did any of that for him, he’d get this big grin on his face, probably even comment aloud about how considerate that was. it’s sweet
there’s a definite difference in the way yata and zenigata interact between p5 to prison of the past and p6, and i think that came more from zenigata’s end than yata’s. i mean this guy has his whole life ahead of him, he’s passionate, he’s determined, and he knows what he wants and how he wants it. he’s just too nice, in a personality sense AND in a by-the-book sense, to really become fully unhinged. which. some of those descriptors. kind of line up with a certain guy we know. so i think zeni’s almost uncomfortably reserved and stiff demeanor with yata initially was him INTENTIONALLY trying to make this (incredibly cool and interesting) life seem. unfun. not tempting. because yeah, at a glance this may sound really amazing, but the reality is that it must be very lonely at times, not to mention WAY WAY WAY DANGEROUS AS HELL.  the scene in p6 of him leveling with yata that he understands if he wants to leave the case kinda reinforces that zenigata wants. better for yata. and as a result, even though he WANTED to get close to him (because again, the way he treats him later down the line is very much closer to the goofy, easily excitable zenigata) zenigata was initially doing his damnedest to keep yata away for his own sake, to stop him before he ended up like him
of course what zenigata missed there is that yata does not give a shit and is hardly thinking of anything beyond the present. ironically. just like zenigata does. and it frustrates yata to no end because, like i said above, he doesnt WANT to have to do less. he doesnt appreciate being given a delicate treatment just because zenigata simultaneously wants to drive yata away from this while still being to afraid to really scare him straight and be HONEST with him about this, and to a degree, yata KNOWS this! or knew, at the time at least.
i almost guarantee after they DID get closer organically and started kind of. being friends? i mean they are THEY ARE FRIENDS. I WANNA SAY THAT MORE CONFIDENTLY. THEY’RE FRIENDS after they got closer there was definitely an argument about “how are you getting pissed off at me for doing shit that you continue to do” and because of how similar they are it was. ITS NOT FUNNY IT WASN’T A FUNNY ARGUMENT but the minute they started to cool down one of them made a comment under their breath and it just STARTED UP AGAIN but it’s cool. they’ve had that conversation, they’re kind of sort of on the same page? or as close as you could be without already being JUST as insane as zenigata, so it’s settled there.
wow. that was kind of a lot. let’s chill. i think every time they have to go to some new place or whatever for an extendedish stay (lets be real staying in one place for a month is INSANE for ANY of these characters) they kind of have a mini sidequest on finding the best diner or appropriate equivalent. it HAS to be open 24/7 of course but it also has to have eggs benedict, not because either of them particularly like it, but a solid poached egg is PROOF that a restaurant knows what its doing. it uh. also has to be fairly cheap. just in case they have to pay for another 30 car pileup. juuust in case. yata didn’t even have a fully formed opinion on the difference between “good” fries and “okay” fries until he took up this job and now he’s like exchanging notes with this guy like “way too salty but if you use enough ketchup its not bad. however their ketchup is watery which is gross. i suggest a routine denny’s stop to cleanse” and zenigata’s like “do they have denny’s in costa rica???” and the answer is yeah they do. opened in 2022. but anyway its just nice to have a designated spot to relax. or at least attempt to.
yata has such a rigorous and crisp morning routine. or that’s what zenigata assumed since he’s got three different bottles he brings himself sitting on the hotel shower shelf (zenigata has no idea what the third one is and is too intimidated by the idea of a third hair washing step to ask) but in reality that’s the only difference. which is just baffling to not just zenigata but EVERYBODY. yata’s eyes are always bright and shiny no matter how late he’s been up, his skin is perfect and smooth, he rarely sweats, he never has to shave, what the fuck is up with this guy??? and when zenigata brings it up, yata’s like, “well, maybe it’s a balance. because i don’t keep up with those things, they stay fine on their own.” and zenigata’s like “how the hell does that work though, yata??” and he’s like “idk sir. same reason you have a full head of thick hair despite the stress” and that just serves to send zeni spiralling further down the other direction because how DOES HE HAVE A FULL HEAD OF TH
ok last brief one since i keep accidentally going off: yata had his ears pierced. he took out the earrings because Job (disappointing, i know) and nobody seems to have noticed the tiny scars left in their wake. maybe he can lie and say it was from the world’s tiniest bullet clipping him. on both sides. evenly. but really the earrings looked sick as hell it would’ve been so cool if he got to keep them :(

I agree completely but i iwant you to elaborate anyeaha
-chai gay sex giy(ps i haveca migraine so that is why i cant typw)
MR CHAI GAY SEX in my askbox. no fucking way.....! ai generated. also i hope your migraine clears soon friend : (
anyways AHEM.
ok well. ocd... is the obsession disorder. i think you can already percieve some of this . what with how Obsession is such a theme with goro. Obsession with the Protagonist Obsession with Revenge Obsession with Perfection.
i think he could have pure O ocd. for anyone that doesnt know, pure O ocd is when you only have the obsessions but not physical compulsions. ex: i have an obsession about my house burning down but instead of doing any physical rituals like checking the stove or jumping up and down or pacing around etc. etc . i just. do mental obsessions, like repeating a phrase, counting to a number, arguing with my brain why my house WONT burn down for 4353 hours etc.
he could very well also have classic OCD but... frankly with how little time he would have to make any compulsions due to his frantic public life, im almost certain that 99% of them are mental.
OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive PERSONALITY disorder) is also a candidate for an additional disorder. for anyone that isnt familiar, this disorder is what most people would think as being a "perfectionist" or a "control freak". but to a degree where its obsessive and damaging to your quality of life. its common for it to couple with classic OCD (haha me...) and the combo is quite... devastating.
anyways. i just think the way he doubts his own convictions after meeting the protag is very ocd like.. he tries so hard to not recognize them and to convince himself hes right. he cant be wrong. he CANT AFFORD TO BE WRONG. not about his whole self! nnot about everything he stands for! it would hurt so deeply to be told you been doing it wrong your whole life.. that your core of thinking is wrong..resonates with me.. although for him specifically it would also be real event ocd (when a thing ACTUALLY happened in the past and your obsessions are about this thing etc and any implications. repeating events in your head and analyzing them ad nauseum etc) . i also think the sunk cost thing applied at some point absolutely 100% like. you dedicated your life to this plan. and you want to stop now??? no way. you already put so much into it. got to see it through. you're right. everyone else is wrong. they have to be.everything is hinging on this. no no. its just an intrusive thought. you're right. you have to be. if not, then what the hell was everything for!!
AND ALSO. how he is so. obsessive over maintaning his public image. ofc its for his plan but the feeling still applies. he Needs to be aware of everything always Everything must go according to plan Every detail must be perfect . I need to know what you Expect so i can perform correctly. You will never catch me off guard. I will be in control I need to Be the ONE in control of my life. etc. and so forth
also just the way his life is fleeting away being obsessed with his whole revenge spiral while he kinda gets more fucked up in his brain inside his skull day by day without saying anything to anyone. none of these people know etc...
very ocd core of his part. reminds me of my lowest moments where it felt like i was gonna die in the corner of my room but everything was happening in my brain. i felt like someone was stabbing me with a knife and twisting it inside. but no one else could see (this is not me being dramatic it really just Feels like That. very frustrating. a lot of people with ocd and other anxiety disorders can agree that they cause physical symptoms..)
and yeah his catharsis moment at shidos palace ... yeah...the raw emotion and the cruelty of reality hitting you in the face... everything you lived for and all of your ideals were wrong. this is my worst nightmare. i dont think i could be as strong.
thank you for listening to me! i shall go to sleep.
EDIT ALSO. r/ocdmemes moment

so since i had the tower ending available to me, i figured i'd run through it
disorganized, spoilery thoughts under the cut
so a few world-state items of note:
valerie had no romance (ofc)
valerie did the parade and saved goro (ofc)
valerie never met kerry
valerie didn't help judy with the clouds stuff so judy was also not a friend to call
valerie did have panam and river available as friends
valerie and johnny were very much not friends
i had only seen the ending with a friendship johnny, so getting to experience the rival dialogue was actually really cool. i did record the whole thing so i'll probably upload some clips from that and muse on it properly, but yeah, i love it when valerie and johnny fight. i loved being able to have her call him a narcissist 10/10. and i like that i could play her as still somewhat sympathetic to his situation
i love 2079 reed. his tie and office bod are precious <333
since valerie had no romance, i did get to hear goro during her in-and-out-of-consciousness scenes, which i absolutely loved
i knew about river and panam's phone calls/msgs and neither one of them are actually that close to valerie so the emotional impact there for me was minimal
much like with the devil ending, though, i wish goro was at least listed in her phone, even if it went to a disconnected number in 2079. valerie did tell him she was going to go with hanako prior to this, so having some kind of 'hey, are we doing this thing' msgs from him in 2077 would have been cool.
and like there seems to be some recognition from the devs that players who didn't get attached to any of the romances or had any other friends likely had some degree of fondness towards goro--hence using his voice in the coma. so once again, it just feels like there's missing content from him, basically. not even asking for romantic stuff here either--just more platonic interactions would have been very much appreciated!!!!
vik's situation depresses the hell out of me, even moreso than v's, although i did love getting to spend more time with him and see a different side to him just for characterization purposes. i loved the employee eval on his computer that said he talks to patients too much, because MUSE FUEL MUSE FUEL MUSE FUEL
(i'm actually in the process of working on some story sets for the events that happen directly after the heist, and vik gossiping to goro has been on my mind since the 'vik likes to talk' line v can deliver so this just compounded that)
connecting with misty briefly does kind of heal the soul a little at least
seeing valerie un-chromed and with a shaved head was pretty jarring, although not as much as seeing her in those clothes lmao. like wtf did the fia do with the clothes she arrived in??? even if she wasn't in top form, she would still make an effort to look somewhat nice going to see an old friend but i mean, i get it, at this point my vision of valerie is so beyond the possibilities of the game's potential characterizations for v
i also have a glitch in my game in which she's constantly holding a pistol during some cutscenes lmao so uh having randos try to beat her up while she's visibly armed was odd
the devil ending is still valerie's canon so this was just a curiosity playthrough, but i am somewhat intrigued by the possibility of another AU/alternate timeline for her and goro playing off these events.
the obvious scenario would be valerie becoming a fixer and goro becoming her bodyguard after they work out their shit since goro is clearly unhappy in 2079 lmao, but this ending plays on the convenient-lack-of-communication tropes that i fucking hate in stories (like really, the FIA couldn't find a way to get in touch with v's friends and let them know what's going on? i don't buy it) so it'd require a lot of rework for me.
and i really can't see valerie willingly going with the FIA, particularly after she told goro she was gonna go with arasaka, so i think a lot of that would have to change too
but idk, it's not a priority. i like having the AU stuff to tinker with when i need a break from their canon, which i currently do not. maybe it'll be like the nomad AU and suddenly hit me out of nowhere :3
but yeah im glad i experienced it for myself since there can be so many little personalized variations, but i also feel kinda out of sorts because it just felt really OOC for valerie and there were some major downers there, lmao. i feel like i need a bit of a palette cleanser
OH and i liked rogue taking nibbles, that was a pleasant surprise

Sanzo survived: Sauna to Cold Bath
This Sauna drama CD translation from Saiyuki made me search for saunas in Japan because I was kind of confused of the translation. Miko and the others were such a BLESSING for translating this, it’s just the difference in the setting that got us confused. There was a term called the cold bath or “mizu goro” 水語呂 which I don’t find common in saunas. So what is it?
Tumblr media
I found this info here. Turns out it was pretty common for Japanese baths to have a cold bath in the sauna, usually if the sauna is spacious. The cold bath may be outside the sauna room or even in the sauna room. People usually sweat themselves in the sauna and dip in the cold bath a little, then continue sweating in the sauna. It was said it will help blood circulation and opening the pores. Now I kinda want to try it… Okay, so I wonder the position of the cold bath inside the sauna, and how cold can it get usually? Because Goku literally threw Sanzo into one… and I stumbled upon this.
Tumblr media
The sauna is… more complex than I thought lol. This probably is a particular setting of a big public bath, we have all sorts of things to try, sauna, private hot bath, large hot bath, cold bath, warm bath… I love that they put the temperatures as well in each setting.
If we go back to the drama CD, they all started in the sauna and it was getting hotter as they bickered and quarreled. It was probably about 70? 80? degrees Celcius there, I don’t know how long they stayed there. People usually just stayed for 20 minutes, but even 45 minutes were still probable considering their “game”. I can see that Hakkai wouldn’t push himself beyond limit, so when he got out, I assume it was probably about an hour since they first got in. Goku followed him soon enough. Gojyo and Sanzo… I don’t know if they could actually stay together that long, but maybe around 15 minutes until Gojyo was fed up? Half an hour maximum.
Maybe he was already dehydrated or his energy already gone, but Sanzo stayed there in the sauna. Even after the others finished changing their clothes and indulged themselves in cold drink? At least another 30 minutes had gone by. I don’t wanna know the condition of Sanzo’s body when they found him still in the sauna room… After some discussion, they decided maybe Sanzo needed to be put in the cold bath but in panic, Goku literally threw him in it!! That’s more than 50 degrees Celcius difference between the sauna room and the cold bath I don’t even want to know anything anymore RIP Sanzo
Well, Sanzo wouldn’t be Sanzo if he didn’t raise from the dead, would he? XD
