can never describe enough how excited I am for the inevitable 2010s revival of the future
(also this turned into a massive ramble accidentally?)
#like i know there are already kids being like ''i wish i was a teenager in 2014 😭'' but i mean like#you know how like the past 5 years have been so 80s inspired#and also 90s#and how the 90s were really into the 60s#and i cannot wait for all the awful aesthetics that were everywhere when i was 12 to come back#bc i'm curious how it'll look. bc obviously it won't be like. the 2010s are back#it'll be this romanticised idea of the 2010s and i wonder which parts will be rejected and which parts you'll see Everywhere#god i feel like there needs to be a new Thing that causes the need for nostalgia#e.g. in the 70s when punk and indie started as a response to the way music was getting so. idk. complicated or whatever#or like kind of inaccessible to do yourself. like dgmw prog rock slaps disco slaps etc. but not everyone could just. do that#and then punk happened and it was so simplified like no long guitar solos or whatever it was so stripped down. and same with indie#not to ramble about what was in my dissertation but early indie was SO 60s influenced it was unreal. and. it was the nostalgia.....#and then i guess with punk there was new wave and post punk and then new romantics and synthpop and things got synthier and then idk#the 80s were so electronic which. again it slaps. but then it got to a point that it was Too Much again that there needed to be a Return#to the past and stuff. so then grunge and britpop and other stuff happened#and idek it always seems to be there's a new music genre or new subculture that evolves over a few years into different things#before getting too much and the next generation wants to go back so they make a new genre. which then evolves and the cycle goes on#but (at least from what I've seen. which probably isn't a lot bc i live under a rock) there doesn't seem to be anything New lately?#everything's all revivals of older genres now. like i haven't seen any new equivalent to emo or britpop or punk or beat or rock n roll etc#like a thing that Changes the timeline. and i was reading this essay about the new beatles song saying how we don't need a new beatles song#even though the new song's still cool it was kind of saying like everything nowadays is recycled and nothing is shocking anymore#like nostalgia is so big now. with all the film remakes and stuff like that. there is nooTHING NEWLY NEW. IDEK. I am rambling so much#just thinking about many things. this was sparked bc i listened to twilight by cover drive and it literally transported me back to year 7#and that led to early 10s nostalgia and by the time that comes back into fashion will the nostalgia problem be worse or will something have#happened within that time. like a new punk or something. tbf i guess a lot of what I'm talking about is to do with rock and i mean#there's rap and stuff which i don't listen to a lot of so idk maybe there's stuff going on there which i don't know about. but then#i want there to be something i Do know about. like something you can't escape. kids are all dressing like this and listening to this and#we WILL hear about it. new proper subculture that isn't just a week long tiktok trend. ykw i blame tiktok for all of this lol#but yeah. holy shit tag limit#ramble

beekeeping age || Joel Miller x Reader
a/n: okay this is a stupid fun fic of Joel reading thirsty tik tok comments because I thought it would be funny. Also Sarah and Ellie are 18 and Joel is in his 40's now
warnings: thirsty comments about joel
this ones for u @huffle-punk @jupiter-soups @living-for-jesus-and-telenovelas
Tumblr media
You told Sarah this was a bad idea but her and Ellie are deadest on it. There was no way Joel was going to go for it once she told him what it was but deep down you kind of wanted to watch just to see how Joel would react.
Truthfully you don't really get Tik Tok. You have it but mostly just scroll for the recipes and book recs. Sipping on your drink you watch as Sarah and Ellie bombard their dad who had just come downstairs.
"What are you asking me to do?" He asks confused.
"Just react to some comments that's all." Sarah smiles widely as she holds her phone up.
Joel looks over to Ellie who was looking around the room. Smiling as innocently as she can when she meets Joel's eyes. Joel then looks to you, normally the girls let you in on their schemes but you just shrug. He narrows his eyes in suspicion but relents.
"Fine. Does this have to do with that app you're always on?" He asks as he sits on the couch. Sarah and Ellie sitting on either side of him.
"Yep." Sarah smiles as she opens up Tik Tok.
She's gotten kind of popular but when she posted a video of her and Ellie and Joel popped up in the background, her notifications blew up. At first her and Ellie thought it was weird to see so many people thirsting for their dad and yeah, its still weird but some of the comments were so unhinged that it became funny.
So what else could they do but make Joel read some of them. Ellie scrolled through and picked a few. They refused to show you the ones they picked, telling you that you'd have to wait and watch yourself. Joel puts his arms on top of the couch, spreading his legs out a little as he watches Sarah press record.
"Ready dad?" She asks as she starts the green screen.
"I guess." She pulls up the first one and Joel squints his eyes to read it.
"Why is your dad kinda...?" He reads in the most monotone voice.
"Am I kinda what?" He asks as Sarah and Ellie look at each other.
"And what does the two fingers point at each other mean?" He turns to Ellie who can't hide her laughter.
You bite your lip to hide your chuckles, it's not often that Joel is this lost about something. It's pretty funny. He shakes his head and asks for the next one.
"Okay okay here." Ellie shows him the next one.
"Y'all looking for a new step mom?" Joel's eyes widen a little as he reads it.
His eyes dart to you for a brief moment, silently praying for you to save him from this embarrassment. He clears his throat and looks at the camera.
"No. They're not." Sarah swipes to the next one and tries to hide her giggles.
"Your dad is such a dilf." He pauses for a second before sighing. He thinks he knows what that means and it's, flattering?
"Uh thanks, I think." He rubs his jaw and sits up a little straighter.
Now that word you do know and it makes you laugh. It's not loud enough to be heard by Sarah's phone but Joel hears it. He looks at you with a combination of confusion and embarrassment. They aren't wrong though. That man is a dilf.
"How many more of these are there?" He asks and Ellie smirks.
"Well we got like two hundred comments but these are the best ones."
"Two hundred?!" Joel asks in disbelief. Ellie waves him off as Sarah shows him the next one. She's struggling to hide her laugh as Joel reads the comment.
"Beekeeping age." Is all it says.
"The hell does that mean? I don't keep bees." Joel looks to Sarah who bursts out in laughter and then to Ellie who's hiding her face in her hands.
You tilt your head in confusion. You've never heard that one before. Pulling out your phone you google it real quick. As you read the definition you still don't fully get it but from what you could gather, Joel does fit that description.
"I don't get it." He scrunches up his eyebrows.
"Guess what it means." Sarah says and he shrugs his shoulders.
"I'm old? I don't know."
"I'll show you video later." Ellie says and he just gives up trying to understand whatever the hell that means.
"Last one." Ellie shows him her phone and he takes it from her hands. Moving his head back to read it properly.
"I want your dad to-" He stops and reads the rest of the comment in silence.
He drops Ellies phone and sighs, throwing his head back on the couch, dragging a hand across his face. He really doesn't understand the internet anymore.
"Alright I'm done." He gets off the couch and walks towards you.
"No dad come back!" Sarah pleads but he shakes his head. A small smile on his face as she pouts.
"Absolutely not, you get that thing away from me." He says pointing at her phone. After more laughter Sarah stops the video and uploads it with the caption I think you guys broke my dad.
"Thanks dad!" Sarah and Ellie run up to hug him, practically tackling him with their love.
"I'm too damn old for this," He mutters as he hugs them back.
"Can't wait to do a part two." They two girls run off to Sarahs room as Joel processes what they said.
"Hey! Get back here!" He yells after them but they ignore him. Joel sighs and sits back on the couch.
"What did the last comment say?" You ask as you join him on the couch. Setting your cup down you wrap your snuggle close to him and he shudders.
"You don't want to know."
"Oh I think I do." He glares playfully at you which makes you laugh.
"And what the hell is beekeeping age?" He asks, completely lost at the concept. He's cute like this. He wraps an arm around your waist as he mumbles to himself about those comments.
"Am I really a dilf?" He's genuinely concerned when he asks that you find it endearing.
"Yes Joel, you are a dilf." You kiss his cheek and he straightens up a little bit.
Hearing stuff like that from strangers on the internet is weird, but coming from you, now that's a compliment.

wip questions tag
jumping on the excuse to do this from @ceph-the-ghost-writer (post here). it’s been a minute, but I really want to do this for claws honestly, as a little treat~
Tumblr media
What was the first part of your WIP that you created?
The characters - Vivien and Rainier are based on the modern AU versions of Vizaeth and Pharaun from my Obsession fic series, so they were the entry point for the story. I guess also wet was kind of a first foray into the story; it’s Viz/Pharaun modern AU fic, but it sort of has the Vibes that later became claws.
If your story was a TV show, what would the intro song be?
I’d want it to be a dark cover of a love song, like the Happy Together cover by Filter I have on my wip-playlist. Something that originally is very sweet and loving, turned sinister.
Who are your favourite character(s) and why?
Vivien my beloved <3 <3 <3
He’s the main character, and I just love everything about him. He’s got the most specific worldview I’ve written (aside from Vizaeth) and he’s got very particular ways of seeing and interpreting the world that are so fascinating to me. His dichotomy of victim/villain is so juicy, and his high emotions make his reactions to everything 10x more interesting.
Plus he’s a transmasc nightmare murderboy, which is my favourite, AND he’s a scrubby little punk/goth kid. All around delicious.
What other pieces of media could share a fanbase with your WIP?
NBC Hannibal would have a fun amount of fan crossover, I think. Maybe Interview with the Vampire. claws has a lot of messy queers in it, i think those fandoms would have fun with them.
What has been your biggest struggle while writing your WIP?
Getting it drafted without worry too much about realism - resisting the urge to go research instead of write. It’s drafted now, and I have a lot of problems to solve with it now, so that’s the new struggled - fixing all the issues discovery drafting for the first time in over a decade has cause me :p
Are there any animals in your story?
Spiders! Lots and lots of spiders! Which is going to be so much fun to research for accuracy, because I don’t actually enjoy spiders very much in real life. I’m better with them than I used to be, but yeah. This is a very arachnophilic book and I…am not that.
How do your characters get around?
claws is in a modern setting, so they use contemporary transport - cars mostly feature. Rainier has a too-expensive BMW with a vanity plate because he’s That Kind of Asshole.
What parts of your WIP are you working on right now?
Currently it’s marinating, so next steps are: reading/devouring lots of Relevant Media to help with vibes, doing research for areas of the book I just kind hand-waved (some science things, aforementioned spiders, various medical bits and pieces…there’s a lot), and later re-outlining it for a neater first draft out of the messy zero draft I have right now.
What aspects of your WIP do you think will draw people in?
the fact that it’s messy queer horror about toxic love. judging by the comments on my wip intro, that’s the thing people seem to like! i do also hope that the characters will captivate readers as much as they’ve captivated me. i’d love for people to be as obsessed with Vivien and Rainier’s fucked-up deal as I am.

what do you consider 'punk' and how did you get into it?
I’m going to preface this by saying this ask is over a month old. At first I just felt like this was too big of a topic to tackle, and then when a new wave of what I’m going to call discourse in the community came up, it just felt like it was going to add fuel to the fire. I ended up making some posts about it anyway, but I guess since I just got asked this again, it’s time to really sit down and answer: what is punk to me.
Punk is a conglomeration of similar ideas, however, some people have different ideas of what is and isn’t punk. I, for example, do not support the vegan movement, but I do know people on here who have patches like “meat is murder” on their battle jackets. That would be an example of a punk ideal that not everyone shares. The basis, the foundation of punk though, as a political ideal, is anti-government and anti-capitalist. There are some things thrown under those umbrellas too. For example, I think you can label being “anti-cop” and under the umbrella of anti-government if you wanted because law enforcement is a government agency.
Punk is a fashion style. Time and time again we have pointed at large fashion brands (I’m looking at you Hot Topic and Spencer’s) and gone “I can’t believe they’re profiting off an aesthetic built on cheap DIY and making it expensive”. When I went a few days ago I found a black beanie with a safety pin and 3 d-rings that was slightly “distressed” as the fashion industry likes to call it. $16. Go get yourself a black beanie, find yourself a safety pin and some d-rings and cut it up yourself, if you’re doing it right it should NOT cost you $16. And if it looks like it’s going to cost you $16 then either you’re shopping in the wrong places or you need to find a 🖐️ discount on that shit *cough* excuse me I’m not sure where that came from. The most recent example of this (this is July 2023) is Hot Topic selling Hobbie Brown merch for the new Into The Spiderverse movie. Selling branded merch of a character who is anti-brand and anti-capitalist. This is not to say that you can’t pick up some stuff from Hot Topic. There’s nothing wrong with taking a liking to something and picking it up and adding to your style. I truly believe that. I also don’t have room to talk since I’ll be honest, dropping $100 a month on band merch is pretty much the only thing keeping me sane these days. Is that very punk of me? No, probably not. However I’m enclaved in this capitalist hellscape working for $9 an hour on pieces people pay $400 for, so if I need to indulge in buying band merch to keep me sane, so be it. It’s my money and I can do what I want with it, and I’ve also been donating money to trans organizations as well. I also like to thrift and DIY. The piece I’m working on now is a patch I got for like $7 from Hot Topic and a bag from the dollar store and I put the patch on the bag and I’m adding some details. A lot of the patches on my vest came from Hot Topic but a lot also are hand-made from me just buying fabric and going ham with fabric paint. DIY or Die should be the core idea. Thrifting should be the core idea. But it’s also not wrong to pick something up you like here or there. Even then, though, focusing on Etsy and stuff should be the preference. And I’ll shop at Hot Topic over Amazon any day. On that note, it’s okay to have other aesthetics as well. You don’t need to dress punk 24/7. You can have other fashion interests and still call yourself punk. There’s no need to limit or restrict yourself in an effort to not feel like a poser.
Punk is a music-based subculture, but punk music has so many subcategories and bleeds into many other music genres. There are people and perfectionists out there who will demand to draw lines between what is and isn’t punk music, but music is all about taking inspiration from other artists and making it your own, putting your own spin on it. You can get away with listening to any alternative music, whether it be emo music, pop punk, goth music, metal music, ska, etc. Taylor Swift is not punk, though. Neither is really any “pop” artist. Don’t get me wrong: I LOVE listening to indie pop music or whatever. I mean even just Imagine Dragons I love Imagine Dragons, but I’m not kidding myself into saying that it makes me punk to listen to Imagine Dragons. My Chemical Romance on the other hand is totally something is some weird subgenre of punk music. Listen to MCR doesn’t “make” you punk but someone doesn’t have the right to call you out for listening to MCR and calling yourself punk in conjunction to it, like Imagine Dragons, for example. Wishing you had the money to spend $2000 on Taylor Swift tickets does NOT make you punk. The MOST I will spend on concert tickets is $200 and I haven’t hit that yet. I think the most on an actual ticket-ticket I spent was $80 for my FOB concert in a few weeks. Once again: I work for my own money. I work while disabled, and whatever I’m not spending on myself goes towards charity and paying the bills. I’ve seen PTV, FIR, and CTE for $25. Local punk shows cost usually between $5-$10, maybe up to $25 depending. Lots of music is even ~free~! Go see some free music even if it isn’t “punk” music! That’s what’s really punk.
Punk is knowing when to be angry and when to be gentle. I think you do need to be angry to be punk. I started calling myself punk because I WAS angry. I was angry at a lot of things. And I needed a healthy outlet for that anger and this blog was born. I needed a place to yell about the things that bothered me, and slowly that became me reblogging posts about people yelling about the things that bothered them, and those things were not having rights, our rights being taken away, anger at murder by cops, etc. supporting that anger. Punk is NOT about a peaceful approach to everything. If you are against the idea of violence in every scenario then you are not punk. If you object to the phrase “punch Nazis” you aren’t punk. And while we’re at it let’s talk about Nazi punks. They exist. You can’t deny that. They are in fact a subculture of the punk subculture. They are punk, I think, in their own way, because they hate the government and stuff, but not for the right reasons. They want to make it worse. They hate the government like people who stormed the capital on January 6th hate the government. For the *wrong* reasons. And in that way they are posers even if they check the metaphorical boxes. Because punk is also about helping the community. It is about a peaceful and loving touch to those around you. It’s about recycling and planting wildflowers and volunteering for marginalized people. It’s about taking that anger in one hand and that want to see a peaceful and loving society in the other and balancing both. You can be angry all you want, and attend protests and yell all you want, but if you aren’t being kind to the people around you then it’s not really for anything. A better world starts with just doing something nice for someone. That’s attainable. That’s in the now. Don’t set your sights so high you’re missing the opportunity to change the world by putting a smile on someone’s face. But yes: you do need to be angry to be punk.
Punk is about individuality and not asking permission. The first way to not be punk? Going on anon and asking a punk blog if it’s okay to call yourself punk for xyz reason. That’s it, you’ve failed the basic test. Real punks do not ask. They do. Punk is about making it your own. It’s about not caring if you’re “doing it wrong” because you’re doing it YOUR way, and if you followed a set of rules on how to do it then that would automatically make it the WRONG way. The hard and fast rules are really just hate the government, hate cops, hate capitalism, hate bigotry, be angry, listen to music that wasn’t meant for family friendly public radio, dress in a way that freaks the right people out, and start doing some activism. That’s how to be punk.
How do you get into punk? You just do. Where I grew up there was a group of older teens who dressed in all black and had dyed hair and swore and lot and sat around and smoked and drank. They intimidated me. I wanted to be like that when I grow up.
I’m so much more than that though. I’m an angry transmasc, someone who rivals in horror and bloodlust as a metaphor for their own violent nature, who scares people enough they lock their doors. But I’m a girl in her 20s who loves buying lemonade at the local boba tea shop and whose favorite animal is butterflies who loves to sit in grass and make friendship bracelets.
So I find things that fit both of my selves and more. I started listening to Fall Out Boy on a suggestion, and from there I found My Chemical Romance, and all these other bands. I started shopping at Hot Topic and wearing all black with band shirts and giant rubber band bracelets. From there I slowly started experimenting by buying some spike bracelets from Hot Topic and started listening to heavier music. I found people on here who had cool battle jackets and I kept an eye out while thrifting and finally found one of my own. I took the patches it came with and started painting over them. My trans patch used to be Obama. Now it’s transgender. Transgender Obama, if you will. I started listening to people online, who told me stories of cops who killed people for no reason. But I thought cops only killed bad people? Well, it turns out that “bad people” is a pretty good metaphor for “people with darker skin”. I started listening to podcasts and I learned horror stories of the US government doing human testing on populations of black people. Can you imagine? They used to do that shit! But… do we really think they just… stopped? Or did they just get better at hiding it…
Getting into punk is about slowly morphing yourself into someone who listens and takes action. It’s okay if you’re like me and you got into punk because you wanted to dress like the scary older kids in your town or you were just really angry so you started a blog called “polyamorous punk” with the work punk in it, or you just really liked My Chemical Romance as a teen. You don’t have to get into punk because you want to fix everything that’s wrong with the world, but that’s how you end up feeling. Over time though as you mature you learn that’s unrealistic. So you do what you can and support the people who are doing what you can’t.

I heard you have music hcs,,, do tell..
Honestly I feel like so many people are gonna disagree with my HCs about the choir's music taste, especially Penny and that's okay. I know she "canonically" likes boy bands and I guess Eminem?? But let me have fun. Putting it after the cut since it's LONG
To me, because I wanted to make character playlists tolerable for me, I made her like punk, alternative, and shoegaze music!! Specifically riot grrrl and queer punk, also some stuff similar to the dresden dolls but I think? They might be problematic so uh- (a lot of the bands on these playlists might not be great since they're older so my apologizes) but some of the bands on there are Bikini kill, Le Tigre, My Bloody Valentine, Lush, Dead Kennedys, Plumtree, Brat Mobile, Sleater-kinney ect. Anything that includes a lot of harsh noise and screaming pretty much.
Ocean's music headcanons are definitely going to be the most controversial to put out there since I do not like Taylor swift… And since I wanted the playlists to be something I can actually listen to I did not make her a swiftie sorry. But as someone who has listened to the entirety of the Up With People album out of curiosity (I enjoyed it a bit too much unfortunately…) I mostly based it off of that, I don't think there's much of a defined genre other than just "oldies" so... The only like recurring bands are the Beach Boys, the Beatles, and ABBA, the other various songs I've ripped from the fallout radio that I think sounded in tune with Up With People.
I already stated Noel's music taste in the previous post of their reference sheets, he's goth to put it simply, lot's of new wave included as well, plus overall romantic/sad love songs I think he'd ugly cry to, also included a bunch of old French music that I personally thought sounded nice.
Mischa's music taste is probably the easiest for everyone to agree on, (hip-hop and rap). Made him a juggalo so lots of Insane Clown Posse as well as other bands from Psychopathic Records, (him and Ezra are both juggalos sue me), also included Eminem and the Beastie boys along with more "comedic" rappers like Sir Mix a Lot and the Lonely Island. Plus Solujia Boy, Kiss Me Thru the Phone is the mischalia song ever.
Ricky's music taste is probably also usually agreed to be quirky electronic and or as some people like to call it "nerd music". Lemon demon, Daft punk, They Might Be Giants, DEVO, Oingo Boingo, The Talking Heads, Weird Al, and of course David Bowie but he's definitely separated from that genre.
Constance is the one I struggled with the most honestly. I couldn't pick one genre to describe her either, since personally I feel like she would listen to pretty much everything and be able to bond with like every choir member over bands. The only recurring artists in the playlist I made was, The Cardigans, Kimya Dawson, The Moldy Peaches, ABBA, and Wham!, but I think she pretty much likes and will listen to everything. She seems like a vocaloid fan too, I just got exhausted searching for bands and artists from before 2010 lmao.
Sorry for the word vomit, I am very dedicated when it comes to headcanons for literal dead children apparently.

y’all ever think about the fact that ppl actually do not know that goth music isn’t just post punk and synth pop..like gothic music is it’s own genre of music that is neither of the previous two and even goths don’t know that. not mad at it or anything bc i hardly even listen to real and technical goth music but i rly feel like if ur gonna be part of a music subculture u kinda have to learn the difference between it all. saw a video of a comedian the other day talking to a goth in the audience and when asked what goth music was he responded by imitating synth pop 😭 and i don’t think that enough people realize that sometimes bands considered goth (ex. depeche mode) really only have like ONE album or even song that can be considered goth and the rest is new wave upbeat synth pop, and it happens with post punk bands too. like i said earlier i really don’t care and i agree with the synth pop post punk inclusion under the goth umbrella i just think that people should just be more. aware i guess. in a community that is very often pretty pretentious about their music tastes. girl ur acting like ur on ur high horse about goth when ur example song is new wave pots and pans depeche mode pick a struggle

Ability: He can dive as far as a midget submarine can go, as long as either the human or sub are on the surface.
Namesake: Album by Kingo Hamada. It's where the Machi no Dolphin song is. City Dolphin. Grampus is a dolphin. Dolphin of Bigg City. It fits so well and so does the song ^^
___
「STAND MASTER」: Zorran 「STAND NAME」: Yesterday
Ability: Viewing the past recorded on reflective surfaces. The amount of centimeters determines the amounnt of seconds it has recorded. (a 45cm window has 45 seconds of footage, for example)
Namesake: Song by The Beatles. It is clear that main antagonists in Jojo tend to have time-based abilities and what better Zorran to have an ability like that, referencing that theory of playing Beatles songs backwards gives proof that Paul died~ wish I could use one of those songs, but nothing fitted so whatev, obvious reference :P
___
「STAND MASTER」: Zebedee 「STAND NAME」: ???
He probably has something other than the tugboat, but it's too afraid of exploring his abilities due to fear of not being able to control the power and feels that having a mf talking boat is enough for him. Also religious trauma, ofc~
___
「STAND MASTER」: Zak 「STAND NAME」: Smoke on the Water
Ability: Creating and controlling dark smoke that comes out of his mouth. Doesn't need to smoke to do so, but he'll do it anyway. He has a problem but won't die from it, so he'll continue
Namesake: Song by Deep Purple. Again a very obvious one :v
___
「STAND MASTER」: Zug 「STAND NAME」: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Ability: Morph his body into sharp objects
Namesake: Japanese Alt-Rock band. Is the band that did Parasyte's OP, his ability is a direct reference to that. Let me Hear is the name of the song but like it didn't fit? The band name, on the other hand, goes pretty well. They also made Kaiji's 2nd OP, just another banger to listen to uwu
___
「STAND MASTER」: Zip 「STAND NAME」: Sussudio
Ability: Phase through walls and any other horizontal solid wall-like things, so not floors nor ceilings. He can make others (living or inanimated) to go with him if he's touching them. His hands are the expection, they can go through anything at his will.
Namesake: Song by Phil Collins. Did you know that sussudio means absolutely nothing? I think that it fits Zip pretty well, a word that he made up on the spot. And I like the song.

Do you have any song recommendations? I am running out of music to listen to and I trust your judgement.
You have no idea how much this means to me haha and yeah I do, but I don't really know what you're looking for, so here's some sort of a variety:
(Disclaimer: the descriptions of the songs are just my opinions and I'm not trying to force them upon anyone, or anything like that).
THE LONELIEST by Måneskin - Great whilst wallowing in feelings of loneliness and self-pity but it's like you're screaming into the void about it. (Genres according to google: pop rock, alternative rock, glam rock)
There She Goes by The La's - Autumn/fall vibes and just reminds me of the colour orange for some inexplicable reason. (Genres according to google: indie pop, brit pop, alternative rock)
Not really a song, but Duster is a great band for just staring into the abyss at 3am and disassociating. (Genres according to google: slowcore, indie rock, lo-fi, space rock revival)
Again not really a song, but Radiohead's OK Computer album is just amazing and definitely worth listening too if you haven't already, and to be honest Radiohead is just a great band in general. (Genres according to google: alternative, rock, indie)
Summer Child by Conan Gray - To me it is the equivalent of someone finally paying attention to you because they genuinely care, and then they give you a hug and comfort you whilst you just cry into their arms. (Genres according to google: indie, bedroom pop, acoustic pop)
No Sound But The Wind by Editors (specifically the 2019 deluxe album one) - Feels like if the depths of complete and utter melancholy was a song. (Genres according to google: post-punk revival - not completely accurate because it was originally for a different version of the song)
Fade into you by Mazzy Star - Feels like you're slow dancing in the rain whilst the world slips away slowly. (Genres according to google: slowcore, dream pop)
July by Sir Chloe - Eeminds me of a monologue that someone is just yelling into the empty sky and is just a freeing song for me I guess (Genre according to google: indie pop)
Where is my mind by Pixies - I don't know how to describe it but it's such a good song and reminds me of a pandemonium in slow motion. (Genres according to google: rock, permanent wave, alternative rock)
Rock 'n' Roll Suicide by David Bowie and any song from him really, especially the songs from The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders from Mars album - great to just lose yourself to and forget about the world. (Genres according to google: rock, permanent wave, glam rock, classic rock)
Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division - "Let's dance to Joy Division and celebrate the irony" (lyric from Let's dance to Joy Division by the Wombats) just sums it up to be honest. (Genres according to google: rock, punk, post-punk, new wave, gothic rock, alternative rock)
Not a song, but Mother Mother are really good to listen to but sort of indescribable, sorry. (Genres according to google: indie rock, alternative rock)
@far-beyond-saving I hope this was helpful haha and sorry if it was too much or not what you were looking for. Please let me know if you want any more. Also do you have any recommendations? I am also in need of new music to listen to, and I also trust your judgement. :)

ok this is stupid i acknowledge that its stupid and im being crazy but. idk if its just me or if its genuinely kinda weird that stddie fans give steve a like. for lack of a better word kinda stereotypically gay music taste in terms of how the fandom decided he loves pop divas and disco and such things (even though in the show he mostly listens to classic rock and post punk/new wave lol) and they solely use it as a punchline and as something eddie (and sometimes the rest of the group) tease him about and even if it's done "lovingly" it's still from a place of implied superiority. and its esp funny when they say "oh its because it's so mainstream and commercialized" as if eddie doesn't listen to some of the most mainstream most famous and most commercialized metal bands in the world lol. idk sorry for this bout of insanity i just feel like this fandom is genuinely really weird and homophobic like at its very roots even if it's not aware of it
HM yeah i can definitely see it being particularly weird with how they do it just to have him be made fun of for it it does feel off..... also as if eddie wouldn't like abba or something. i do totally think steve is a pop diva girlie i just also think eddie could be TOO And yeah the very basis of a typically masculine guy having a less pedestrian more typically "feminine" music taste is that it probably shouldn't be just randomly made fun of 😭
but actually one of my most beloved things is how much rock steve does listen to and i think they do have music in common other than that. ppl tend to fall into the quote unquote anti poser trap probably from the blondie bowie beatles thing with eddie when he was actually literally never shown to hate any other kind of music he just defended that his music is still good music 😭 it also just conforms to what their idea of a metalhead is let alone someone who's like counterculture anticonsumerism when i don't think eddie would literally give a fuck and it feels MEAN to have him Be mean in that way. when he could be mean in so many funnier more truthful ways that don't rely on someone else being the laughing stock!!!! especially someone he actually likes. i think eddie would like that steve likes an unexpected range of music it's honestly weird to ME that people forget liking a lot of those genres wasn't Actually the most popular like what 80s teen boy was actually listening to new wave and fucking . olivia newton john. let alone anything that could be deemed "girly" i think eddie would at the very least be able to recognise steve's particular love for music and i guess his own boldness in that area and it would call to his own even if he did theoretically just absolutely hate it the core value would mirror his own he would probably pass out from being too horny about it!!! like there is a certain kind of statement you give with liking anything sometimes and especially at the time even being like a fan of QUEEN or musical theatre isn't something that was just taken like "Oh you're such a prep!"

Introduction
Hi! I'm Aria and my pronouns are She/Her.
I've been on Tumblr for awhile but never really made an official blog for posting but there's just so much I wanna say so I thought "I'm bored on the bus, lets commit to Tumblr".
I don't really know what I'll be posting except that it'll probably be mostly related to bungou stray dogs as it's my current obsession (and has been for the last 3-4 years-). I do like to both write and draw too so I might post some of my work aswell.

Today’s compilation:
These People Are Nuts! 1989 New Wave / Punk Rock / Alternative Rock / College Rock / Post-Punk / Power Pop / Ska
Here's a nice retrospective rundown of one of the greatest and most eclectic indie labels of the 1980s: I.R.S. Records, which was headquartered in the US, but had a whole lot of UK bands on its roster too. Founded in 1979 by a guy named Miles Copeland, I.R.S. started out primarily as a punk outfit, but as new wave proceeded to develop, it sunk its teeth firmly into that movement too, landing a bunch of acts along the way whose material was considered to be strange, zany, quirky, and campy, like Oingo Boingo and Timbuk 3.
But between all the acts that ultimately end up lending to this album's title being These People Are Nuts! are a bunch of bands who aren't considered to be all that weird too, like The Police, The Go Go's, Buzzcocks, R.E.M., and Fine Young Cannibals. So, what we really have here is a nice blend of genuinely good punk and alternarock with straight-up enjoyably silly and irony-laden new wave.
But this album that celebrates I.R.S.' tenth-year anniversary actually opens with a song that predates the label's existence entirely: it's the B-side of the debut record by the band that Miles Copeland's brother, Stewart, happened to play drums for: "Nothing Achieving," by The Police, a terrific classic rock-punk tune that was released in 1977 on another one of Miles' labels he had founded beforehand, Illegal Records.
And another great tune from those pre-I.R.S. days comes courtesy of a little-known band called The Electric Chairs, who, at the time, were fronted by a performer named Wayne County, who now goes by Jayne County. County is someone who holds the honor of being rock music's first openly trans vocalist, and she ended up working with a lot of famous people throughout her career, including David Bowie. Plus, she was also at the Stonewall Riots. So, she's an absolute legend, to say the least, and her band's punk song, "Thunder," which predates her publicly identifying as a woman, was released on Illegal in 1979.
Also, have you ever wondered where the great Fatboy Slim derived his stage name from? Well, it probably came from Maryland's Root Boy Slim, a brilliant and eccentric rabble-rouser who went to Yale and then came back on homecoming weekend the year after he had graduated and got kicked out and permanently banned from his frat house by none other than future war criminal president George W. Bush himself. His song, "Dare to Be Fat," kinda-sorta answers the question of, "what if Frank Zappa was a black blues-rocker?"
And there's a bunch of other songs from this compilation I could write about too, like The Go Go's’ "We Got the Beat," a landmark new wave tune that convinced the group to head towards a sound that was more new wave than punk; or the Buzzcocks' "Ever Fallen in Love," which presented a pretty perfect mix of late 70s punk rock and power pop; or Fine Young Cannibals' debut single, "Johnny Come Home," which showed the world this band's signature mix of rock and ska, along with Roland Gift's uniquely satisfying and tender voice.
But I think I'm gonna dedicate a few sentences to a deeply misunderstood song instead: "The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades," by Timbuk 3. If you've ever heard this top-20 mid-80s hit before, then there's a pretty solid chance that you're among the many people who think of it as quite possibly the dorkiest song that the new wave era ever spat out.
I mean, peep this refrain if you're not familiar:
I'm doing alright Getting good grades The future's so bright I gotta wear shades
Tumblr media
Now, is it possible that this song was made in a sort of tongue-in-cheek backlashing kind of way in response to all the live fast-die hard, sex-drugs-and-rock n' roll music that was going around back then? Sure, I guess so. But the song wasn't even really so much as that. It was more about the banality of contributing to an evil system and feeling as though you were on the right path. See, "I Gotta Wear Shades" is told from the perspective of a young nuclear scientist at the height of the Cold War, and that brightness in the future he refers to is actually referencing the potential detonation of the nukes that he's been working on. It's a really cleverly-made song that became a pretty big hit, but people never really seemed to understand the message that was behind it. It certainly wasn't a song to celebrate strait-laced, apple-polishing nerds.
So, there you have it: a nice and varied set of songs from a transcontinental indie label that played a big role in shaping new wave, punk, and alternative rock through its first ten years and change. There wasn't really any other label that was quite like I.R.S. Records. A lot of names that would end up defining eras and styles, along with some real kooks too.
Highlights:
The Police - "Nothing Achieving" The Go-Go's - "We Got the Beat" Wayne County & The Electric Chairs - "Thunder" Root Boy Slim - "Dare to Be Fat" Buzzcocks - "Ever Fallen in Love?" Wall of Voodoo - "Mexican Radio" R.E.M. - "Superman" Doctor and the Medics - "Spirit in the Sky" Timbuk 3 - "The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades" Fine Young Cannibals - "Johnny Come Home" Concrete Blonde - "It'll Chew You Up and Spit You Out"

Hey! Would love to hear about the super secret birthday epilogue, for the WIP Ask meme! And if you can share a little snippet of it, even better 🥺
Thank you ❤️
Hi Cat! Thanks!
Super secret birthday epilogue is a little something I am writing for me, for my birthday, to epilogue the longfic saga of Matchsies/A Complicated Match. My birthday is at the end of August and I plan to post it then but I'm almost done with writing it and just dying to share lol. I almost did post a snippet on WIP Wednesday this week but then I forgot. Anyway, this is pure sweet sappy self-indulgence for a finished fic (spoilers) and a pretty big snippet so uh, not-so-secret epilogue thing starts like this :)

It felt so strange to be back. Dorian tapped his fingers impatiently against the bartop at The Rest, then swirled around the drink in his glass before taking the last of it to his lips. He swallowed the sweet, strong, biting mouthful with a sigh. Whiskey and cola; he’d long since given up on having anything top-shelf at this pub. And yet he knew he was going to miss it.
When he’d missed Ferelden before, those six-odd months in Tevinter, he’d mainly missed Taren. He’d missed The Rest, the shop, the cold grey coast and the sprawling underground, yes, and after a couple months he’d even missed his dingy little office and the brown brick and scraggly vines of the university buildings, but mainly, just Taren. It wasn’t going to be like that, this time, and suddenly he was seeing everything in a new light.
He gave the bartender a nod to refill his glass, and watched the patrons behind him in the dimly lit place as they drank their drinks and threw their darts in the reflection of the dusty mirror behind the bar, his own face frowning. Dorian heard the door to the pub open, and turned on his stool to see Taren silhouetted against the fading daylight outside.
The elf shuffled in, grey hat over his crop of not-quite-shoulder-length auburn hair, unceremoniously crushing down the curls so that they whisped out about his chin. He unzipped a too-large fall jacket, something built of army-surplus canvas and patched up with punk band logos and bright pins. He spotted Dorian, smiled a leaning smile, and waved.
Dorian’s frown disappeared. He raised his glass, gestured him over, and stood. He ordered him a pint before Taren could get to it himself, putting it on his tab and pushing a tip across the bar. Then they took up their drinks and found a booth.  The same booth. He wondered if Taren noticed.
“How was the shop?” he asked conversationally, as Taren settled himself across from him.
“Oh, you know,” Taren shrugged. “It’s weird, I guess.”
Dorian nodded, and waited. There was a contemplation on Taren’s face, more coming through that he was still working out how to say.
“Sera’s still mad,” he said.
“She’ll come around.”
“Yeah,” Taren sighed, frowning a little as he took up his beer for a sip. He put it back on its coaster and leaned back in his seat, glancing to the side and taking in the rest of the bar. “And I keep looking around like — seeing things, I guess, feeling like it’s for the last time.” He smiled slightly, but not happily. More as though to apologise. “I’ve never had this much warning.”
“It won’t be the last,” Dorian promised. “And you’re still allowed to change your mind —”
“— stop.” Taren shook his head. “I’m not changing my mind. I’m just… going to miss it.”
“So am I.”
“How was the university?”
“All settled. And I have some paperwork for you, too.”
“For me?”
“Your letter of course completion from Montilyet.” Dorian fished the document out of his bag as he spoke, and slid it carefully across the table.
“Oh, thanks.” Taren picked it up and examined it before sorting the letter away to his own bag. “I was - I was going to pick it up.”
Dorian shrugged. “I was there.”
“So that’s everything? I mean, all your paperwork is in, too?”
“That’s everything on this side.”
"Right. Shit. Ok,” this time, Taren really did smile at him, “guess I should finish packing.”
He took another sip of his beer. Dorian watched him as his eyes strayed back into the bar, contemplating the dartboards and faded sports posters and chipped paint. Then he looked back at Dorian, his smile lopsided and his eyes still thoughtful.
“You know this is the same booth?” he asked, “from when we met.”
“We should get married,” Dorian blurted out in response.

Greetings and salutations, random people of Tumblr!! Welcome to my humble blog, where I post random stuff that interests me. My name is K (or Moony I guess??), I’m a minor so no weird stuff alright, I’m trans, bi, and I have yet to come out of the closet (he/him).
I love music more than anything (maybe a little too much). My favorite band is Echo & the Bunnymen and my favorite song is The Man Who Sold The World by David Bowie. I love a lot of 80’s music, new wave, rock, punk, and synthpop. I also enjoy writing and doodling so you’re definitely going to see some of that stuff on my blog, along with whatever else I post on a whim.
Oh, and I love the Moon a lot, it’s my favorite celestial body.
So yeah, that’s me. Stay weird :)
