I just binged all of M!ik, and i just have to say how much I love how diverse the gender expression is among its characters!!

Like the obvious one is Opera, who’s canonically Non-Binary and uses they/them pronouns (at least in the English translation, since Japanese doesn’t really use gendered pronouns the same way), and who presents with a mix of feminine and masculine attributes, without it ever being seen as something strange by the other characters. Like, everyone just accepts that Opera is neither a man or woman. They’re just Opera.

But even outside of everyone’s favorite cat-demon, theres so many other gender nonconforming characters, including the main character!! Like I know that him dressing up in frilly dresses is played for a joke at one point, but for the most part, it’s not something he’s ashamed of. He’s a bit embarrassed to go on national tv dressed as an idol, but he also has a lot of fun doing it, even leaning more into it during the concert portion of the Evidol Games.

I also have a special place in my heart for the gnc men in the series, because I feel like that’s not something you really see all that often, except for with the generic pretty boy trope. But in M!ik we have Balam, who is undeniably a very masculine figure, but he has a lot of equally undeniably feminine traits. He’s very gentle and physically affectionate, and has a great love for small creatures and likes to make cute picture books. And on the Physical side of things, he has long hair that he wears down a lot that he carefully takes care to maintain (at least after he grows it out again).

And there’s a lot more than that, even just in the background characters that appear, but these three are the ones that came to mind first.

Continuing on toby and the cursed items(items since ik he didn't learn the first time) what do you think he manage to take, and what were the effects?

In my AU theres a museum in the underworld where it's just filled with cursed objects

My AU also has museums but a lot of the more dangerous/cursed artifacts are locked away and guarded. Some of them still lurk in caves like a treasure hunt, which are usually the ones the proxies are sent out to find.

The proxies were in a grove at one point, and metal-detecting for this silver sphere that will cause necrosis against any human flesh. (Very smart of Slender for sending human proxies to retrieve it, specifically Toby.)

And while detecting, Toby found this cute little, low-poly-looking statue of a Beastly. A large, bear-like creature with a long tail and stubby little face. Toby smiled. He liked this little statue.

Over time, throughout his weekly missions, he has almost died at least 47 times to beasts of the forest alone. Not just Beastly's, but Flesh-Eating Salamanders, Wisps, Clickers, Dragonours, and other dangerous beings roaming the brush.

After being pat down, Toby was caught red handed with this little artifact, exactly used how it was supposed to. By luring in a user with a fondness for it's likeness, and attracting any wild being toward it's scentless, aggressor pheromones.

From then on, Toby did not keep things he's stolen in his pockets.

Hi! In your magical girl svsss AU, how are the magical girls chosen?? Is it like a birth thing, or does it happen at some point when they are already a certain age?

Because if it is the second, I want to imagine a scene where SY is hanging out with some demon friends and suddenly he is chosen to become a magical girl (be it through a cute creature telling him or just sudden transformation) and both he and his demon friends start to panic because what????

I also want to know if, in the case SY becomes a magical girl (which I just realized could or could not happen), he could try to join a CQM to change the image people have of demons from the inside!

The first ever magical girls were lovely people who fought demons and saved the world countless of times, even though they had to fight demons multiple times even almost risking their lives! They still had time to be in love~ as they grow older they married their now spouse's in a grand ceremony.

In the far future the angel helper that was sent to help the magical girls warned that if a magical girl decided to retire and have children, the power they have now will be distributed upon the magical girls children, leaving the magical girls without magic anymore (ofc if they decide to have children). As the children of the magical girls grow up, they also fall in love and the cycle continues for as long as that magic last. Once many generations have been passed, the magical girls power will be so faint that you will not even be able to do any simple magic spells

If a magical girl does not wish to have children, they will not grow old like the normal humans because the magical girls power is from the heaven's itself, as long as they have their powers they will grow old and slowly die of old age without any health problems.

There was less and less magical girls in the world. The heaven's thought it was a problem because the demons, without strong enough magical girls were reeking havoc again! The heaven's held a meeting and decided to send down angel helpers once in a while to give powers to the most qualified humans the magical girl powers.

Boom done storytime! (Heres a shorter version so u don't have to read all that) So if the magical girls has children, they will inherit the power and the cycle of childbirth continues until the magical girl power eventually just goes poof bc theres so little of it! If a magical girl doesn't want to have children they will grow old and die slowly bc.. powers!!! Once in a while the heaven's will like send an angel helper to give humans magical girl powers.

Actually i do wanna touch on the magical girls power giving thing bc its actually really interesting to me off course!

The heaven's sends out tiny angel helpers to give humans magical girl powers by giving them accessories that pierce into your body, (like an earring) energy will start to invade your immune system and slowly merge with your cells while slowly changing them to be different from a human cells! So technically if you want to like donate blood you can't anymore bc your blood ain't no type A or B anymore, its Type SMG or what it stands for, SPARKLY. MAGICAL. GURL.

say if you present their stories to me as a child, i would be like "i dont like how this story ends!". this serves true to a lot of people and not just myself- and this is ever present in media with perceived unsatisfactory or bad endings (like mlb fans making fanfics better than whatever was actually in the cartoon)

ik kinnies are cringe and annoying and dumb and etc etc whatever you wanna say but from being in kin communities for years what ive mostly seen is kinnies are primarily there 1. because theyre mentally ill and are trying to cope by identifying with characters that help them have a better self-image 2. because they have a legitimate spiritual belief that may be a part of a larger religious practice where they identify as non-human or similar 3. because they suffer from a psychotic delusion that they are a fictional character/non-human creature 4. because theyre an alter in a dissociative system and identifying as a fictional character helps them get a better sense of identity and find a community. i have not found “just for fun” kinnies to be anywhere near the majority or representative of the average experiences of people within the community - its mostly been a lot of young and very mentally ill people. and frankly at one point the obsession w hating anyone w a kin page or whatever bc “its cringe” im gonna be honest its just kind of ableist eventually. like. you wanna talk about when the kin community is actually harmful gross or shitty go ahead but also theres a lotta shit that just seems like its just.. “these people are weird and i dont get them so anything can and deserves to be said about them” ngl.

hi i do have recommendations but my taste in most things isnt super refined just a heads up!!! a lot of these movies arent rlly rated well i just see the woter and im like "hm scary and good enough for me!!

also a lot of these arent really deep sea and/or horror. ill take what i can get tho fr fr as long as its vaguely on theme.

theres a movie called 47 meters down which. was good and i liked it!! its abt these two gals who find themselves in a sunken cage at the bottom of the ocean in shark infested waters and um. its very nerve wrecking and i rlly liked the ending tbh? and lots of tense moments. disclaimer tho ik movies that vilify sharks contribute to stinky things and also i understand that sharks r just creatures tryna eat and not starve and i adore them. predators under water just hit different and movies abt them are Sometimes fun. tbh usually i avoid movies where the whole premise is Scary Shark but this one involved them being trapped in a Cage so it intrigued me

theres also a movie called the cave that i rlly enjoyed parts of but i was so let down by other parts!! these lads find an under water cave and go to explore it. idk how much i should spoil but the one aspect of it that i didnt like is that the set up seemed very practical and realistic and then it strayed so far from what is possible/plausible here on this earth and i think they could have avoided doing that by being a little less scifi with their creatures, and it would have made it so much better. but overall i liked it!! the cave is completely uncharted & Not an environment humans have any business surviving in so. yeah i want more movies just like that.

i Sorta have the similar beef with the movie sea fever? but it seems less out of place somehow. but also its more like.,,, boat horror?? less conflict takes place in the Water so it didnt rlly capture my interest the same tbh. but it was still worth watching imo!!

most of the environmental dangers outside of observation zones have been sort of colloquially recontextualized as weather in the 200 years since the resonance as a way of normalizing them, but they're just manifestations of the quantum rules that places not being observed function by. these are things like reality storms (think what the end of spiderverse looks like - buildings appear and dissapear, places become physically uncertain, people just vanish as multiple dimensions overlap at the same time), quantum tides (what if collisions got turned off for everything in an area at the same time, which sounds silly but has literally swallowed whole towns), probability storms (a worse version of a reality storm, when the actual fate of an area becomes uncertain, like if you put the box for schrodingers cat around like, 50 square miles. these are TERRIFYING), and things like time and space just sort of getting unstuck, so time can pass much quicker than normal without you realizing it or you can walk for 5 minutes and travel 50 miles or space and time physically 'looping' in on themselves, etc etc. also, because of how the resonance worked, there are entire chunks of the world that are unfamiliar landscapes - just 20 miles of the kind of fantasy forest that has giant spiders in it in the middle of like, kansas - and animals from other worlds, but these are both inside and outside of observation zones and are mostly a known quantity. like yeah if you want to get to jims house you have to go through the poison mushroom zone. it happens. (however. long term exposure to quantum environments is dangerous, and there are odd, incomprehensible, 'mutated' creatures that arent more dangerous than normal wild animals, but would probably be classified as monsters, living outside observation zones. think the fucked up animals from annihilation. i picture these guys a lot as like. ominous silhouettes and shadows on the horizon. you know theyre out there, but thats about it)

SO living outside observation zones is dangerous because its unpredictable. theres a handful of ways around this: either you watch the weather (spires put out 'weather reports' that are accesible via radio that list places that have increased quantum activity, but its not the most reliable), you travel/stay in a group that essentially works in shifts so that some people are always observing the area around them, which kiiiiiind of stabilizes it (this works up to a point, but requires a large group, is taxing, and still could very well fail), or you set up brand-new, proprietary tech from the moraine transportation, infrastructure, and protectionary division - portable radio towers that will stabilize the area around you. maybe. this tech, which allegedly works by outputting radio waves of the opposite frequency to the mar (the connective tissue between universes), is able to make small scale safe zones outside of observation zones, and is what mtipd uses to stabilize the path between stitch and staple, which is the largest area outside the observation zones that's regularly traveled. all of these options.....kind of suck. regardless, people do try to live outside the observation zones, but they pretty quickly figured out 1. its much, much safer not to settle in one place for a significant period of time and 2. if you have a group of like, 15-20 and someone always listening to the radio, you can moooostly keep ahead of the weather. what im saying is that outside of the observation zones theres essentially an entire ecosystem of biker gangs and cowboy posses that are all SUPREME weirdos. they have their own complex web of political interactions that frankly i havent bothered working out, but for the most part, they only really affect each other (travel outside the observation zones is rare enough that you just dont particularly need to worry about it, and if you do need to travel there you just need to hire one of the groups for protection and youll be fine). theres ALSO im sure little highway robber gangs inside the observation zones, theyre just not as bonkers.

as far as sorta big scale threats, we've got all the fun ones - shreveport, while isolationist, has been building up a military for years (including refurbishing automatic weapons which is. Bad.) and no one truly knows why, stitch and staple have reinvented capitalism and are each run by a large corporation with all the corresponding dangers there (as a bonus, the two corporations hate each other and are constantly threatening to go to war with each other), backstay had a warmongering past and while their current ruler wants peace, this opinion isnt shared among many of the city's aristocracy, theres a rising political faction called the eigenvector that wants the cities of the verge to be united under one banner and to be a single 'nation' and they suck supremely, theres rogue scientists trying to build a stable portal to another dimension that is this close to collapsing and destroying the entire area around it, theres a cult that believes exposure to quantum environments is good for you but at least they stay out in the wilderness, missionaries from the major religion of the gloaming protectorate sort of wandering around, etc. the most plot relevant big threats are the corporations that run stitch and staple, (geodesia logistics and shipping and the previously mentioned moraine transportation, infrastructure, and protectionary division respectively) and a mysterious group rising to power known as the ekp (which stands for the eschatologic-kymoptosis presage because theyre pretentious assholes), or the ekpyrotics who believe the end of the world is coming and want to make it happen faster. because theyre pretentious assholes.

So some time ago i had a dream about a ‘Binding of Isaac Knock Off’ game (which my SO came up with the Perfect name for in only a few seconds), and I became really interested in the idea recently and after a lot of fun idea spitballing with friends i bring you the first main cast of ‘The Tribulations of Ike’

this will be my Lovenote/Flea-market Bootleg of Binding of Isaac more information under the cut

IKE: A Homunculus/Artificial human created for the purpose to be ‘The Hero’. their creator(s) are a complete mystery, though its assumed theyre also the same creator(s) as the others. 

Ike has the Most generic protagonist boy personality possible. Spirited, heroic, selfless, so on. he woke up outside of the Cave/Dungeon the ‘Game’ would take place in with nothing but a sword, some general knowledge and the memory of his name. Nothing else.  He (and the others) have literally no nose (but some pores to breath somewhere else) and a forked tongue to smell with. Additionally, His suit, also like the others, is literally apart of his body in that it grows from him, though its capable of coming off. The suit is like a Mix of tough leather and Latex.

Ike can do only Basic math and can Barely read.

KIM: 

Kim is a Homunculus from the ‘Chimera division’ of the place where the cast was created, naturally as a chimeric humanoid with the ability to rapidly adapt to new environments and stresses. 

Shes much more intelligent and coordinated than ike, she’d need to be in order to Mentally adapt to her rapid bodily changes and figure out how to use new limbs, organs and abilities as they come and cope with their loss as they go.

due to this, she tends to be cocky about herself, even teasing ike about his intelligence, though She retains a very, very short temper.

ROY: the first Homunculus, Both a success and a failure and quickly abandoned, Roy was given an extremely fast rate of Regeneration, however some gene deficiencies and some miscalculations in their creation lead to their body rotting just about as fast as it grows back, essentially making Roy an “Undead” as their living tissues replace the rot from within.

Roy is much more experienced than the other Homunculi, and quite wary of others but is generally a calm and level headed person, often acting as the cool voice of reason among many hot blooded, high action Hero-wannabees.

Roy, at their core, is an exceptionally tired person. They have a tendency towards kindness, at times even at their own expense (though theyre still cautious) and generally would like to be left alone so that they can rest and sleep.

All ‘Deaths’ in the game are considered CANON. However, each character has their own way of avoiding it’s permanence.  for example, Ike has a ‘Black Seed’ organ. This organ is a Black, teardrop shaped ‘communication hub’ similar to both the corpus callossum and a radio communicator in function. 

It allows Ike to spit up a seed that he can plant, which grows into a pod that is in constant communication with his nervous system over long distances. If Ike’s body is destroyed or otherwise fatally compromised, his Black Seed organ communicates to the pod that Ike is compromised, ‘ports’ his consciousness back to the pod to be put into a new body growing inside and begins secreting hormones into the bloodstream of the old body, causing it to pretty much Melt into a red fluid that rapidly breaks down. Ike can only plant one of these ‘Respawn pods’ at a time, as per some limitation in his Black Seed organ. thats a much more complicated explanation, but others are simpler, Kim simply has her consciousness escape as a tiny creature that can quickly escape through extremely small cracks, feeding and growing until it can shift back into her original form, Roy is essentially ‘Undead’ and is simply knocked apart and has to wait for his pieces to scrape themselves back together.

Theres plenty more ideas for this setting coming along, Im having fun with it and its super fun collaborating ideas for it with my friends! i hope yall enjoy it some too!

oh ummm ik its late bc its like a week old but in the japanese translation, "death game" is actually called "annihilation migration" and i think its a bio term where species will die in an environment not suited for them unless they adapt but they'll still die in the end anyways??? basically its a fish migration phenomenon in which ocean currents (especially warm currents) influence fish to migrate to previously uninhabitable areas (due to some factors, such as cold temperature), and when the seasons change and the water temperature changes, the fish cannot respond and die. fish that do not have migratory traits cannot return to their natural habitat. so basically death game/annihilation migration arc is going to be a battle royale, and the fact that junpei had awaken a sea creature-like shikigami before he got killed by mahito may mean he was a test subject for it. (bc i know he skipped school bc of the bullying but what if he was also in a coma similar to megumi's sis but since he's a test run, his coma was a lot shorter? since he was referenced by geto at the end of shibuya arc, and theres no way he's just a throwaway victim for yuuji's character arc if he didn't serve a purpose to the plot)

oh? i am thinking 💆🏽‍♀️... i wonder if/how the "sea creatures" that mahito has would play a factor
