Obviously the Master is a control freak, but I like this idea that he understands, certainly by Yaz’s speech at the end, that the difference between him and the Doctor, is that he doesn’t know how to make people love him. Which would definitely be how he’d see it. What are you doing? What inputs are you putting in to get that result? I want it. Give me it.
It really makes me wish we could have another ‘Doctor’ worth of character development in that sense (in the form of that Master, or just following the thread with a new one), because where it leads is very obvious, and pretty horrible, but also…heart-wrenching. And in its own way, perhaps progress. The Master works best as a foil, a counter view, a dark mirror of the Doctor rather than Evil™, and I think you need those little signs of light, even alternative light, like with Missy, for the character to remain interesting. The Master consciously learning the differences between manipulating someone so they love you, and doing kind things because you must be weak enough to love them to receive it…
And of course he doesn’t know how any of this works. Going with the Timeless Child(ren) base with the Boy On The Cliff and inferences, this is probably not a child who really received love, and who probably had that replaced with utility. If he was useful, achieving, doing big and incredible things - good. But nothing unconditional. And even the Doctor doesn’t provide that - he’s ‘loved’ if he’s doing what other people want. But he doesn’t want that, he wants to be his own Master, and if that means he can’t be loved, then he knows what is more important to him.
But it’s a desire I think he’s aware of. I wonder if in part it has any link to Dhawan!Master’s considerably increased flirty behaviour. A still acceptable viewing for a younger audience version of the classic ‘Sex=Love’ problem perhaps? And it’s something he seems to be at least peripherally aware of with his desire to ‘court’ Yaz into enjoying being with him. From calling her Yaz rather than Yasmin from the start and his greater focus on her in Spyfall, to that ‘Come on, can’t we just give it a go? Can’t you just play along?’ bit in the TARDIS.
I don’t know. But I hope next time we get the Master back, it’s to pick up this thread where we let off.

The Masters dating someone who's clumsy
Characters included: Simm, Missy/Gomez, and Dhawan
Tumblr media
Warnings: mentions of injuries/death (not graphic), all three of The Masters are teasing and/or inconsiderate assholes, plus they might be ooc since this is my first time writing for them
A/N: this is purely self indulgent, but I hope y'all get a kick out of it nonetheless
Tumblr media
Simm! Master
Makes fun of you for it, 100%
"Aw, is the poor little human incapable of not falling over every two seconds? How adorable"
Absolutely will not help you up if you fall unless you beg or if you're very obviously hurt
Playfully scolds you for any bruises or scrapes you get from falling or bumping into things, though don't be mistaken, that doesn't mean he'll help you put on a band aid if you need it
If he thinks for even a second that someone else caused you to get hurt by bumping into you or pushing you over, they're dead, end of discussion
Missy/Gomez! Master
Not as annoying about it as Simm's Master, but she will playfully taunt you for being so clumsy
"Hm, this is the second time today you've bumped into something, isn't it? Poor thing"
Her helping you up all depends on her mood. If she's in a good one she may laugh briefly before giving you a hand, but if she's feeling more grouchy she'll refuse, pretending that she doesn't even see you laying on the ground
Actually patches up any scrapes or injuries you may get, whether it was an accident or not
Oh and anyone who pushed you over intentionally will be given agonizing torture from her as a punishment
Dhawan! Master
He's, like, the least bothered by your clumsiness, and even actively complains about it to you
"This is ridiculous, we can't even go to a simple marketplace without you getting hurt. Honestly"
Secretly though, he's probably the most worried, but he covers it up with disinterest and snark
Won't help you up if you trip and fall over unless you beg, to which he'll respond with a loud sigh or an eye roll
Doesn't shy away from scolding you if he has to help clean/wrap up any injuries you may have acquired
I don't think I even need to say this, but if anyone is the reason you got hurt they'll be killed immediately, accident or not

Hi, hope you’re having a lovely evening. If I may ask, how would the masters react and feel if a device/ experiment/ malfunction turned the reader into a child (age 3 to 10) please?
Oh none of them handle it well- not because they are bad with kids- they just don't know how to deal with the spontaneous child they now have on their hands.
Delgado!Master:
He is so overwhelmed, the poor man. He is actually pretty good with kids. What he isn't good with is his lover being randomly turned into a child with no clear indication they will turn back anytime soon. If he had run into them as a child that would have been fine, but this is going to drive him insane. He worries over you so much that he resorts to a child leash just for piece of mind.
Ainley!Master:
You're a curious child and it drives him insane. He cannot handle all the questions about what he is doing while he tries to fix this. He does have some left over parenting skills in his stolen body so he does eventually find a way to keep you distracted while he works to fix this.
Simm!Master:
At first he acts as though its a huge problem for him to deal with child you. Then he realizes how you almost have literal stars in your eyes when you look at him. Now he is so very attached to you, and almost doesn't want to turn you back... He will. After a few days.
Missy:
She laughs so hard. Then she plays dress up with you. Treating you like a little doll until she has had her fun and she figures out how to turn you back.
Dhawan!Master:
He just- stares- for a few minutes. Then, once he has wrapped his brains around it- he is so excited. He is going to spoil child you for a few days before even worrying about changing you back into your adult self. He takes you to giant space playgrounds, gets you toys, buys giant stuffed animals larger than you. He adores getting to see your child like excitement as an actual small child. He carries you around, chases you. Its basically enrichment for the man. He gets to indulge in all his child like behavior without feeling weird about it. (He learns how to do it again so you can both enjoy some time as children when you need a break from being an adult)

A non-serious attempt at comedy/list about what your favourite incarnation of the Master says about you:
Roger Delgado: They just like more dialogue and richer themes in your storyline, preferring character interaction and chemistry rather than spectacle. They also make sure their outfits are neat, stylish and elegant. Always colour co-ordinated. Usually quite calm and collected until you say Terror of the Autons is just a remake of Spearhead From Space.
Peter Pratt: Basically a Fourth Doctor fan who refuses to admit there are flaws with The Deadly Assassin or a fan of horror films. More than likely grew up in the seventies. Definitely looks into their KFC bucket and sees lots of little Masters staring back at them.
Geoffrey Beevers: Basically the same as the Pratt fan, although this one refuses to admit there are flaws in the Fourth Doctor's era as a whole. If you tell them Tom Baker stayed on for too long, prepare to have your intestines made into a scarf. Usually forgets about 90% of the plot of Logopolis. Almost certainly a child of the 70s, hence why they see this Master in the mirror each morning.
Anthony Ainley: Likes to just have fun, no matter how corny or wierd the stories are. Will happily just sit and watch the Master basically trolling the Doctor with minor inconveniences, waiting for the inevitable moment when that character hovering in the background with a not-quite-as-clearly-defined backstory pulls off a mask and wig to reveal a goatee. Is somehow able to enjoy Time Flight. Do not ask them their opinion on the TV Movie.
Eric Roberts: A legend amongst humans. Saw the campy, over-the-top dressing gown/robe, the bad cgi snakes, the wierd terminator references and thought "yes, this is clearly the best one." Constantly annoys purist classic series fans simply by existing and does not care. Knows the TV Movie is mid and does not care. Knows that the Eye of Harmony was originally on Gallifrey and does not care. Has definitely said "I always... dress for the occasion" and does not care that no-one gets the reference.
Derek Jacobi: Sold their soul to Big Finish for the War Master range. Religiously watches Utopia to see that reveal again, and wishes Chantho had been fully fried before shooting the Master. Now all they can do is offer sacrifices to Nicholas Briggs and sit in a darkened room, staring at the Big Finish website.
John Simm: Probably has fan art saved to their phone, and has almost certainly read Ten/Master fanfiction at some point. Will defend Last of the Time Lords and The End of Time Part 1 with their dying breath (and for good reason, those episodes slap and those two slightly dodgy scenes don't ruin them, Moffat did worse retcons, fight me). Cried when their Master showed up in The Doctor Falls and usually has good relations with Missy fans because of it. Thinks Sacha Dhawan is a lazy rip-off. Can usually be found comforting the Jacobi fan after their War Master box set has been delayed.
Michelle Gomez: Basically the same as the Simm fan, only this one defends the Moffat era and their fanfiction search history is a bit more varied. Thinks Death in Heaven was a good episode, and that The Doctor Falls should have been the last Master episode. Hates Chibnall for bulldozing all their character development and rendering this incarnation's redemption slightly pointless. Usually slightly more forward-thinking than some other fans and great with their friends. Has formed an unlikely alliance with Delgado fans... somehow.
Sacha Dhawan: Took one look at the most quirked up Master and decided that was the one. Thinks John Simm was OK, but lacked the "evil four-year-old on a sugar rush" energy of this one. Usually bitter rivals with Missy fans, as everyone started re-evaluating the Moffat era instead of watching S12, and will go strangely quiet whenever the Timeless Child is mentioned, praying that someone will say that it should have been the Master and thus giving them a "get out of jail" card. Was absolutely overjoyed when people enjoyed Power of the Doctor. Convinced that the Chibnall Era will receive a massive reappraisal in the future, despite the fact that the odds of that happening are about the same as the Terry Nation estate accepting that the Daleks are overused.
Alex Maqueen: Sold everything to Big Finish. Doesn't even watch the show. Can't watch the show. Who needs the show when you've just spent all your month's wages on that box set? It's not like you need to eat or anything. The most likely individual to end up in a padded cell when someone doesn't know what Dark Eyes was.
Gina McKee: Missy fans, but with small social circles and a heavy dose of Weezer.
Mark Gatiss, James Dreyfus, Milo Parker: Wait, these guys played the Master?
If you really want more of this shit (why), there's a list about favourite Doctors and Companions

A lot of words about the Master
TW: suicide ideation, suicide attempt - please scroll by if these topics are triggering to you!
when I see people dismiss Dhawan!Master as simply a wicked villain doing evil things for the sake of villainy, I want to scream. because the way the Master’s unravelling reaches its culmination in TPOTD is honestly one of the most painful things I’ve ever seen in Doctor Who.
for a character whose defining trait used to be clinging to life by any means possible, the way he acted in The Timeless Children was alarming enough.
I mean, when Simm!Master was baiting Ten to pull the trigger in The End of Time, he stopped the second he thought the Doctor might actually do that and gave that little head jerk as if to say - no, please, don’t. because, as we remember, he didn’t want to die. then Missy pleaded with Twelve for her life agreeing to become his prisoner essentially - the very fate Simm!Master used to be appalled by. she wanted to become the Doctor’s friend again, true, but she wasn’t a fan of dying either.
and then we have Dhawan!Master. when he urges the Doctor to activate the Death Particle and kill both of them, he means it. how do we know that? because he literally gambles his life earlier when he shrinks Ashad and, for no one to hear him or lie to, confesses that he thought the process of shrinking would activate the Particle and everything would finally be over and he would be okay with that. and now that it’s not over, he sounds tired and, if anything, disappointed.
but when the Doctor escaped in TTC, he wasn’t ready to let go yet. his objective was to die with the Doctor, not alone at the hands of some random dude - so he flees. he was already cheated out of their mutual past - it turned out to be his origin story but not the Doctor’s so he destroyed it - and to miss out on exiting together was simply out of the question.
however what we see in TPOTD is a much more deteriorated version of the Master. he can’t stand being in his own skin any more. he says his goal is to destroy the Doctor and defile their name but what we see when the Doctor prevails? he begs her not to let him go back to being him again. and the way it’s worded is basically “I tried to destroy you, don’t let me get away with it.” he doesn’t want to return to his own self so much he asks the Doctor to prevent it even if it means she erases him in turn. and only when she doesn’t give him even that much and leaves him to his own devices does he follow her to ensure their mutual destruction.
this is one of the most painful character arcs I had ever witnessed and I can’t believe that people just... miss it and I’m so so afraid that RTD might want a clean slate and forget all about it, too. because no, Dhawan’t Master doesn’t do the same with Missy’s arc - honestly, I think, it’s the opposite. his is the regeneration literally born out of self-destruction. Missy gave her life for the Doctor and yet he left her to die, never to return, only for the Master to then find out that he was always supposed to be inferior to that one person who had ever meant anything to them - for whom they tried to rebuilt their very nature, spent decades in confinement, and eventually, killed themselves and died. so what was the point?
I love this fucking tragedy of a character so much and I hope RTD does too and won’t swipe our spiralling self-hating loser under the carpet. maybe acknowledges his problems and either builds on that or gives him some kind of purpose instead? but in the meantime, I just hope more people rewatch his episodes and see the character depth that is all there because it’s honestly staggering.

HeadCannon: Being A Young Time-Lord, and How The Master’s/Missy Comfort You…
(Beware of SPOILERS for S12 for Sachas Master!)
The Master (John Simm):
Tumblr media
The Master (at least this one) has never been the one for comforting, not even for himself but given that he cares very deeply about you, he tries to give it a try at consoling you when he sees you upset
The Master at first tries to reassure you with words, no matter how hard it might be “Y/N, there’s no need for those silly things you call tears.”
At first, his words certainly didn’t work
The Master could only watch as the tears flooded down your cheeks
But then The Master felt an unfamiliar pain in his hearts, and realized that he had to try harder to comfort you
So The Master hold yours hand, even if he is unable to do any more than that, and doesn’t let go until you are able to calm down, maybe even after that
Missy (Michelle Gomez):
Tumblr media
Missy isn’t the one to get sentimental or express any sort of emotion whatsoever even when she’s alone. Most of the time she keeps any sort of feelings to herself and hides them from plain sight.
Missy has always left the comforting up to The Doctor. She believes he is much better suited for it
But there is one time, when Missy is left to comfort you
Missy tries to cheer you up with her jokes and wits, anything that could brighten up your mood “Do you want hear about that time The Doctor fell into a hole and was trapped in mud? It is quite funny.”
But not even her wits seem to work
So Missy (even though it would normally make her uncomfortable), allows you to hug her, and you cry into her shoulder
As the minutes pass, Missy finds herself slipping into her emotions as she can feel you trembling as you cry. So she tries a few comforting words. “There there, Y/N. You must remain strong. You are a Time-Lady. Everything will be fine.”
Eventually, Missy crumbles into the hug, even running a hand through your hair. And she lets you stay that way until you feel better
The Master (Sacha Dhawan):
Tumblr media
In his past regenerations, emotions didn’t come so…easily for The Master. But in this regeneration, The Master felt himself feeling emotions so much more often and intense than he ever had. Angry. Sadness. His emotions were more open than before.
Here you two were, in the temple of the Gallifrey High Council, surrounded by smoke and ash. Gallifrey was in ruins, and by The Master’s hands
Seeing your home destroyed, not to mention the never ending fued between The Master and The Doctor was enough to break you
You had become fuled with anger and sadness that you just erupted, more so than you ever had in your travels with The Doctor
Your outburst took The Master by surprise, he never expecting something like that out of you
At first The Master didn’t react, only because he suspected that his destruction of Gallifrey would have emotional effects on you. But when he saw you break down, screaming and crying, he knew he couldn’t sit by and watch you be in pain
When you laid on your knees, hearts shattered in two, The Master reaches out to comfort you. Kneeling down to be at eye level with you “Oh my dear, Y/N…”
The Master can see the light slowly diminish from your eyes
The Master feels his hearts ache, and he knows that he must comfort you. Even if you hate him. Even if you never want to forgive him, he will still make it his priority to make you feel better
The Master embraces you in a hug, holding your in his arms and rocking your gently
With one hand, he strokes your hair soothingly as he whispers sweet nothings into your ear “Shh don’t cry, my dear. Everything will be alright, I’m here Y/N. I’m right here.”
And he even kisses your forehead, his nonverbal way of expressing his affection and care

Same anon who talked about Delgado!Master being an autistic ally. Now here’s all the boys (and girl) finding their autistic human pet in emotional shutdown from sensory overload.
Delgado- Tries to gently find out what’s wrong. Might use mind techniques to attempt system reboot to end the shutdown, if he detects no resistance. Whoever did this to you is getting hypnotised into flushing the toilet with their head under it.
Ainley- Stands outside the door with a terrifying smile, making creepy comments at whoever approaches to ward them off. High chance of backfiring because everyone is going to assume he’s guarding a bomb.
Simm- Saxon/Silver Simm go for the diplomatic method, seeing what they can offer to get you to move somewhere more comfortable. Feral Simm is like “same bro” and starts rocking next to you.
Missy- Just carries you out over her shoulder to somewhere more comfortable. Anyone who sees is going to blame your state on her so it’s embarrassment free. After that it’s the dark room and warm blankets treatment for you.
Dhawan- Gives you a makeshift sensory toy out of whatever he can find. Just gives you his coat if there’s nothing better. Once you’re slightly stabilised he gives you a hug, asks if you’ll be alright for a minute and proceeds to murder everyone in a 2km radius while screaming.
YESSSS I love this!

Loved your 13th Doctor headcanons! Do you have any for the Master as well? (Loving Campervan p6 btw 💛)
Aaah thank you! And ooh hm I'm walking to work so just quickly:
Talking about dhawan master specifically, @taardisblue has infected me with the headcanon that because the Master regenerated close to a black hole (hello, time dilation) AND only came into being because simm master killed missy, which is a mess in and of itself but also we know that when timelords cross their own timelines it messes with their heads a bit afterwards simply to preserve the timeline's integrity. So then - the Master regenerates in the temporal and spatial proximity of BOTH of these things....and it completely messes with his timesense. I feel like it's both extremely sensitive (possibly even painful) but also extremely difficult for him to interpret in a coherent way, and like...man, what is his perception of time even like, then? I don't know, I need to write a fic going into it more deeply (I actually have an idea for a timeloop oneshot where the Master can tell that they're stuck in a loop waaaaaay before the Doctor, but because his timesense is a mess and way more sensitive then it starts to genuinely hurt him and he steadily gets more incoherent as it goes on. Meanwhile the Doctor clocks it a few loops later because it smells like quarantined time and the temporal loops they used to weaponise in the Time War, and once she realises and starts to mess with the timeline within like, the two minute loop they're stuck in, she starts to get temporal nitrogen narcosis SKKSKS). Anyway, I also infected @taardisblue with a certain Stargate: Universe fic in return where a character has issues with time perception, and now we both say things like "the Master has trouble with temporal sequencing" in relation to this headcanon skskks so that's fun
And then - I've definitely done this in one of my fics before (notches in your spine, if you want to know which one) but I think that when Tecteun encoded the Doctor's division memories into the matrix and corrupted the files, she would have absolutely put a failsafe on what was left of those memories just in case the Doctor went digging. The failsafe consists of psychic barbs that only go one way, so it means that if you force your way INTO the files, then you just slip past them, but when you try and get OUT again, you're moving against the barbs and it rips your mind apart. And so then my hc is that this is exactly what happened to the Master, and it SHOULD have completely destroyed his mind probably, but 1) he's so used to his mind being something to fight against/pain to fight THROUGH, that he managed to pull himself back together but also 2) he was SO ANGRY about what he'd discovered, and he used that anger to pull himself through the other side of it all. Which is in part why he is drowning in his fury so much this go around - it was the only thing that got him through, and he literally used it to stitch his mind back together
AND THEN finally bc I'm almost at work - because Twelve and Missy, dhawan master actually learnt to feel a lot of empathy, and so that plus his extremely volatile and overwhelming feelings of his own, he feels a LOT of emotion as a rule, and does not know how to deal with it. Hence: literally everything he does in the show.
I've probably explained everything terribly (see: walking) but hope that it makes at least a vague semblance of sense!!!

The Doctors arch nemesis and his best frenemy has had many incarnations throughout Doctor who's run.
Milo Parker (2021, Big Finish Audio Plays)
Richard Dreyfus (2017 - 2020, Big Finish Audio Plays) Roger Delgado (1971 - 1973) Peter Pratt (1976) and Geoffrey Beevers (1981) Anthony Ainley (1981 - 1989) Eric Roberts (1996) Alex MacQueen (2012 - 2016, 2021, Big Finish Audio Plays) Derek Jacobi (2007) John Simm (2007 - 2010, 2017)
Michelle Gomez (2014 - 2017)
Gina McKee (2020, 2021, Big Finish Audio Plays)
Sacha Dhawan (2020 - Current)
Some things to note and reason behind who is here and the order
4) I've noted which Masters are Big Finish only and roughly their years playing them. As for the rest, I have listed only their years of T.V appearances to help simplify things, considering Beevers, Roberts, Jacobi, Simm and Gomez have all made BF appearances since their time on the show ended and are likely to continue being involved in BF.
1) Dreyfus was originally marketed as 'The First Master', the original, you might say, however since his controversy and subsequent firing, Big Finish have backtracked and said he isn't necessarily the 'first', only that he is the incarnation that left Gallifrey. Milo Parker, who first appears in Big Finish's 50th anniversary celebration of the Master 'Masterful' is the original incarnation, young and has never left Gallifrey before that story. While it is possible these two incarnations are the same, just at different ages, there's no clear evidence for either arguement, so I opted to include both of them. It also felt weird to leave one or the other out.
3) The 'Extra Crispy' Master, originally played by Pratt and Beevers, is a decayed version of Delgado, who was the original Master (character wise) and the final incarnation of his regen cycle. Subsequent efforts to extend his life caused his body to decay and later, his conscienceness body jumps to both Ainley and Roberts. However, as these bodies are not Time Lords, and incapable of being a permenant solution (although much more capable considering it's implyed he's jumped across MANY bodies), they eventually break down and decay, reverting back to the Crispy Pratt/Beevers body (Who is then completely played by Beevers). So, if I needed to be completly accurate with this chronological order it would go DELGADO - PRATT/BEEVERS - AINLEY - BEEVERS - ROBERTS - BEEVERS. But....I don't want to include him 3 times...that's too crispy....so after some debate where to place him, I decided to just place him in his first appearance order.
5) The Lumiat, played by McKee in 'Missy: Vol 2' BF audios and the 50th celebration 'Masterful' is described as like the Master's Valeyard. Whereas, for the Doctor, the Valeyard was an amalgamation of all his darker and worst traits and machinations between his 12th and final life, The Lumiat is all the good aspects of the Master, distilled into one 'incarnation'. As Missy dies, unable to regenerate, an 'Elysium field' she had on her person activates, breaking down her body to atoms and rebuilding it again, retaining a copy of her conciousness and 'kickstarting a new regeneration cycle', of which, the Lumiat is the first incarnation. However, so far it's not entirely clear if she is a proper incarnation, as this information comes from the Lumiat herself, and her appearance in 'Masterful' treats her like some sort of wraith-entity, like the Valeyard, who does not have any further lives and is killed by Missy in the story. As these two appearances clash with what we know, I decided 'better to be safe than sorry' and included her.
5b) Another thing to mention, she has no real outfit or 'look' bar the tiny glimpse we see on the Missy box art and that she wears a lot of white. I found it pretty...boring to draw so I decided to try and design my own costume, with inspiration (particularly the blue scarf) from other artists fanart of her.
5a) In the process of this, I think I created a pretty cool costume idea for the Doctor (And as the Lumiat admires the Doctor and all the good he does, it stands to reason she'd try to emulate him) with a scarf, high war boots and a white tailcoat with navy lapels. I'm no fashion expert but with some tweaks or colour changes I think it'd be an awesome look for the Doctor, not just the Lumiat.
2) Also present in Big Finish, is the 'Unbound' Master, played by Mark Gatiss. However, he is not included in the line up considering he is the Master from a parallel universe, and not 'our' Master.
Can be bought on shirts and other stuff at my Teepublic store here!

Ship Ask: The Doctor x The Master! c:
I think I have answered this one before, but specifically for Twissy, so I will do it for them in general now, but probably will be the same
when I started shipping it if I did: Not sure, but I think it started somewhere in the sound of drums, with 'all we've got is each other' but also the way master said that he likes when doctor uses his name akjshdakjdh
my thoughts: do I have to actually add anything here? honestly, just go through 'doctor x master' tag on my blog, I think it is obvious that I love them to death, a perfect couple for me :D
What makes me happy about them: absolutely everything, that the universe always makes them meet, that showrunners always bring the master back so I can have more fun watching those two, those are my favorite stories.
What makes me sad about them: that somehow they will never travel the stars together as they always wanted to, because if they make the master 'good' as the doctor, he will lose it, as usually villains lose it when they become heroes, they stop being interesting and be themselves as we loved them in the first place.
things done in fanfic that annoys me: Honestly, have not read much with them to see a pattern that annoys me.
things I look for in fanfic: AUs, with them it is human AUs, somehow I don't want to read about them in DW universe :D
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: well, I am not sure the master could be good with anyone from doctor who universe, at least from nu who which I have seen, I would prefer the master to finally find peace with himself first, and the doctor, well, I am not sure he would be able to be happy with anyone who will die soon and the doctor will keep living, but River I guess.
My happily ever after for them: Not sure these characters could have happily ever after in a traditional way, I think their happily ever after would be them still trying to outsmart each other somewhere among the stars, sometimes trying to kill each other, but always ending up helping each other instead, cos while they want to kill each other, they would never be able to exist without another, like what their life would be if the other one dies? I don't want to think about it, cos for me, the master always lives somewhere there and has the chance to come back, they are two sides of the same coin for me, and their happily ever after would be them constantly meeting somewhere in space and time having drama and fun, as usual.
who is the big spoon/little spoon: it is different with each master, simm would be all over the bed and ten would end up falling from the bed :D missy would be a big spoon, always trying to be in twelfth space, so twelve would just sigh and keep sleeping, and dhawan, well, you would need a time to bring him to bed first and make him sleep, I think the only time he would actually sleep is if you knock him off, he always seems like he drunk 10 redbulls and a coffee, so instead of bringing dhawan!master to bed when he is accidentally falling asleep somewhere, thirteen would just bring blanket and pillows to where the master is sleeping, he would be a lil spoon.
what is their favorite non-sexual activity: like, they could have long debates on what's good and what's evil, but I think they would prefer to play experiments on some races, thinking that those are harmless but ending up with a mess instead :D

I see the post about the Master(s) caring for a sick reader and raise you: reader having to care for sick Master(s)
if you think they're a lot to handle before just wait until they have the timelord equivalent of the flu kicking their ass
The reader taking care of the Masters when they're sick
Characters included: Simm, Missy/Gomez, and Dhawan
Warnings: being sick (obviously), pretty sure that's it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Simm! Master
He's not sick, he can't be sick. He's a Timelord, and Timelords don't get sick
That's what he insisted to you over and over again, but it was a bit hard to take him seriously with how nasally and congested he sounded
At first he wants you to leave him alone (because he's not sick, thank you very much) but once it becomes clear whatever he's got isn't going away anytime soon he very begrudingly allows you to care for him
Acts like he wants to be left alone but then whines very loudly if you're gone for too long, so you're basically stuck watching him the entire time
He has terrible manners in general, which are made even worse when he doesn't feel good, so don't expect him to say please or thank you unless you press him for it
Complains about something every two minutes without fail. He's cold, so you get him a blanket. Then he throws it off because he's hot. Then he gets cold again and needs you to tuck him back in
Eventually you get tired of listening to him whine so you put on The Teletubbies in hopes that'll distract him long enough for you to sneak away and get some peace and quiet. When you return a half hour later, he's passed out in bed, sleeping peacefully while the TV continues to play in the background
Missy/Gomez! Master
She would also refuse to believe that she's sick at first, but it takes her much quicker to cave and accept your treatment
Wants to be pampered and treated like the sophisticated Timelady that she is, meaning she fully expects to be waited on hand and foot for the entirety of her illness
Such a drama queen, honestly. You so much as suggest she blow her own nose and she goes on this long rant about how she can't believe you're making her do something while she's sick, and she's much too weak and helpless to care for herself, and don't you love her?
If it works it's only because you want her to shut up (despite how nice her voice sounds, I imagine it must get to be quite tiring to hear her do nothing but whine)
After awhile she gets bored of laying around and doing nothing (despite you being there to take care of her) so she tries to sneak off and cause some trouble, hoping you won't notice
Unfortunately for her, you'd gotten used to hearing her call out your name every couple of minutes and soon grow suspicious when she doesn't. She doesn't make it far before you catch her and usher her back to bed with a firm scolding
Dhawan! Master
Oh boy. Out of the three of them, he is the whiniest, clingiest, and biggest baby yet
As soon as he wakes up and can tell he doesn't feel good, he immediately calls out for you. It could be as minor as a sore throat or the sniffles and he'll act like he's dying
At first he tries to act just as intimidating as he usually is but it doesn't work because a) you don't find him that intimidating in the first place and b) even if you did he's definitely not when he's wrapped up in multiple blankets and cuddling with a stuffed animal
Speaking of which he begs you to cuddle with him, even if it's likely that you'll catch what he has. Honestly, the two of you usually get sick back to back because of how clingy he is: if one of you has something, the other is bound to catch it at some point
He doesn't want to have his every whim catered to in an arrogant way, he's just so pathetic and pitiful when he asks for something that you can't help for feel sorry for him and find it near impossible to say no
Needs to be near you the entire time he's sick. If you disappear even for a second he begins to practically whimper with displeasure, like a small puppy who's been abandoned

In regards to my last headcanon about Missy being the redemption of the Master, I also have more excellent things I want to address between the short time we have of Simm!Master and Missy being together in "The Doctor Falls": 1. I don't think view Simm!Master's attraction towards Missy to be romantic. If anything, their relationship is strictly sibling like to me. He's fascinated with her, knowing she is what he will be in the future! The Master trusts no one except himself, so of course he thinks she is his "Partner-in-Chaos" right off the bat. Yeah, it's me and me against the world (and the Doctor!) Double the chaos! 2. But because she is his future, of course he hasn't gone through the journey she has yet. He hasn't put in the work to try and become better. Sure, he cares about the Doctor, the Master always has to a certain degree. He chooses to walk away and leave him alive another day despite constantly wanting to kill or humiliate him, but he isn't going to stand WITH the Doctor. At least not yet...not until he becomes her and goes through the journey to understand why it came to this moment (Missy stabbing Simm!Master and making him regenerate into her.) 3. Yes, he's mad at her for choosing to stand WITH the Doctor. He's mad at her for what he perceives to be lying to him, making him think she was on his side (his Partner-in-Chaos), when really, she was with the Doctor all along. He doesn't want this for them. It's never ended well for them, being friends with the Doctor and sticking by their side. There has always been a price that comes with it... (Theta telling Death to make Koschei her champion instead of him and all the countless betrayals through the centuries by the Doctor towards the Master, even down to abandoning them the day they left Gallifrey first, breaking that promise of them seeing the stars together.) But even if Simm!Master is rightfully angry with her for choosing this path, I don't think he would try to hurt her or kill her over it (sorry Moffat, but I reject it happening.) The reason he is mad with Missy comes out of a place of concern for themselves. It's also the same reason that Simm!Master REFUSES to stand with the Doctor. He doesn't want them to get hurt or abandoned by their 'best enemy' again. He's trying to look out for her, but see, she's also trying to look out for him too. 4. Which is what leads to Missy taking her previous self into a hug, telling him how much she loved being him, and then proceeding to stab him so he regenerates into her. Because, yet again, she is the redemption of the Master. This is her way of saying: Trust in your future, trust in me. We deserve better, and I'm going to give it to us for once. Your future is in safe hands with me, but you won't understand until you experience it...until you become me. ("You deserve my best") 5. So I like to believe that Simm!Master accepted it, wobbling back to his TARDIS, and putting faith in his future as he regenerates. (But of course we know what happens with Missy, which leads to my posts about how Dhawan!Master deals with it all after... ( X ) & ( X )

opinion on where dhawan!master fits in the master's timeline?
yesss thank you i love any excuse to talk about the master.
i'm still team "dhawan is after simm but before missy". i think it was a really smart decision to not have simm regenerate on screen so writers had the opportunity to write the master on both ends of missy.
there is a part of me that believes that missy truly did die for good at the end of "the doctor falls" both because it's a very tragic but poetic conclusion to her arc, and also because it's so fitting and so delightfully rich that the only person to successfully kill the master is the master, both literally (simm shooting missy) and figuratively (missy kills the concept of the master to the point where simm is so disgusted with what she's become that it overrides his pathological desire to live; also missy giving up the name "the master" fits in very well with this. it's a much better explanation than "well i'm a woman now").
i also think that missy was missy for a very long time. i can honestly see the michelle gomez version of the master living in-canon as long as ainley!master or possibly longer. i think one of the ways that s10 works is the idea that missy has been missy so long that she considers that she doesn't have to be "the master" anymore. she is clearly very established as herself by the time 12 meets her for real in "dark water". who knows how many centuries she was missy before then, how many bodies she went through after being simm to understand herself in a post-gallifrey, post-time war universe.
even if she did not die, i don't buy the explanations folks have written up trying to argue that dhawan!master postdates missy. with the level of character growth that missy went through in all of 12's seasons, especially s10, it frankly does not make sense to me that dhawan!master comes after her. chibbs in general seemed a bit averse to referencing anything from moffat's era in his eps (which i do get; you don't want to draw any comparisons to your direct predecessor i think), but the concept that the entirely of "the doctor falls" would happen, missy's entire plan to go back stand with the doctor who happen, and then she'd just... go right back to what she did before? no acknowledgement even, of the brush she had with being something other than the master? i honestly believe there's no way to make a post-missy dhawan!master make sense without retconning large parts of missy's arc.

soz but anyone who's pissed at dhawan!master's existence bc they thought the character was gonna end with missy's redemption is just delusional. any showrunner can do what they like with these characters. just bc one did it one way, doesn't mean the next has to stick with that
like. ofc if you don't like that the master is back and not redeemed again then that's fine but to have expected them to stay good is delusional imo. i love missy but the master was never gonna stay like that. or more like the creators were never gonna Let Them stay like that
bc the master is more interesting when they're against the doctor. a taste of them being good like s10 is amazing but that's not what they're really there for yanno?
and imo dhawan has not just 'gone back to being evil' he's hurt, he's clearly not well. missy -> dhawan absolutely tracks (imo). if anything, i think it's more interesting to see the master struggling again instead of them going back to simm level 'evil' or sticking with s10 missy goodness
and yknow, maybe we coulda had more straight up clarification in s12 about where dhawan lies in the timeline, like a direct reference to their time as missy, but i do think after missy is and will always be the obvious and best conclusion anyway

Okay but imagine having known the master a while because they keep getting themselves into scrapes near you, and maybe you knew them as simm. And then suddenly missy turns up and says she’s regenerated and she’s *hot* and ends up seducing you and that’s *great* and then the next time you see them it’s Dhawan master. And he says it happened again and he’s also hot and there is more seduction. But then you see missy again after, and then him, and Dhawan keeps trying to stop you from seeing her by “punishing” you with more aggressive sex each time, and when missy finds out she does the same, until eventually they just both end up hypnotising you over and over to make you go with them faster so they feel like they’re winning. And it all ends in both of them turning up at the same time one day and each trying to hypnotise you away from the other and you can’t handle it and just fall to your knees in front of them and they realise they can’t keep fighting or no one will get what they want. so they end up both using you together, and maybe they take turns and decide to be idiots who comment things like “oh, they did that so much better with me” until they’re stepping in and holding your head in the right place, or repositioning you so the other one can experience what they’ve felt
Oh to be their puppet.
