Tease Tidbit Tuesday 🏙️

I have been wanting so desperately to write the past few days but a cold has my sinuses putting so much pressure on my head I feel like it’s going to explode, plus it’s school holidays and it’s been raining so I’ve got two very energetic kids with cabin fever running around causing mayhem 😅.

BUT! I did manage to write a little something for LA Lonely so yay (even though it may not be great, at least it’s words)

Buck is woken up by the shrill sound of a phone ringing. The bed jostles, Buck letting out an annoyed grumble as the warm body that is wrapped around him disappears. There is a kiss pressed to his naked shoulder, a whispered apology and then the rustling of the blankets as the person leaves the bed, answering the phone with a quiet hello.

Rolling over to check the time, Buck’s surprised to see that it’s almost 9. Usually his body clock wakes him up at 7am everyday, whether he stayed up late or not, so sleep-ins are a rare thing. He rolls onto his back, groaning as he stretches his arms up above his head. There’s a slight ache in his ass but it’s a reminder of the fantastic sex he had last night and honestly, Buck doesn’t mind the discomfort.

He hears footsteps on the stairs, the wood creaking slightly and then the most attractive man Buck has ever laid eyes on is standing at the foot of his bed wearing nothing but underwear and a soft apologetic smile that has Buck’s tummy swooping.

Eddie.

The man’s name is Eddie, Buck remembers. And remember he should because he was moaning it loud enough last night.

Eddie has a phone pressed between his ear and shoulder as he picks up his jeans and begins to awkwardly shimmy them up his legs. “I told you, I overslept. But I’m getting ready now and can be there in —” he looks down at his wrist and frowns, his eyes sweeping over the discarded clothes on the floor before zeroing in on Buck’s second nightstand where a clunky watch sits. Eddie grabs the watch, quickly checking the time before he begins strapping it on. “I can be there in 20 minutes, 15 if the traffic is good.”

Buck feels a pang in his chest and then instantly chastises himself. This was just another hookup, a one night stand —nothing more than that. He was foolish to think that what he felt last night with Eddie was anything real. It was just the hormones.

Eddie may have stayed, but that was probably because he was hoping to get lucky again this morning. Or like Buck, he slept in and didn’t get a chance to sneak out before Buck woke up.

I don’t usually make posts like this, but I’ve been seeing a lot of anti-intellectual junk lately, and I really think we need to put the word “pretentious” up on a shelf until people learn what it actually means.

It doesn’t describe someone who likes artsy-fartsy deep meaning media. People who are pretentious are fake. They’re posers trying to be sophisticated and unique, not like other girls. They pretend to only like stuff they think will make them sound cool when they talk about it. They want to act like they know something you don’t, and they want attention for it.

By definition, if you genuinely enjoy something, you can’t be pretentious. If it resonates with you, and you analyze it, and you don’t care what people think, that’s the polar opposite, actually. If you love obscure experimental prog music, if you watch underground high concept indie films through English teacher eyes, if you spend hours in a modern art museum reading each piece as a vessel for storytelling, if your backpack’s full of poetry books that inspire you, if you play underrated games that were someone’s passion project, if you have an interest in studying the classics or the masters, you are not pretentious.

Of course, some people just don’t like some stuff, and that’s fine, but that’s not what this is about. Don’t let anti-intellectuals shame you for enjoying things just because your interests are inaccessible to them, because they refuse to be brave and put effort into critical thinking. You’re not stuck up for refusing to overlook the craft of artists.

I'm so looking forward to iroh and zuko properly talking and seeing irohs reaction to zuko being gay.

Like we all know he doesn't agree with the fire nation rn but how will he react?

Will he not support him cause sokkas a guy? Will he not support him because it's SOKKA? Will he accept him? Will he reveal he's known for years zuko was gay?

Especially with everything that happened with zhao, regarding to what jee said to bato on their date. (Which is a very understandable perspective, zuko just got out of this very sexually traumatising situation and almost immediately starts a relationship (his first relationship) with sokka, but then again it is a very unique situation)

One thing I love about some atla fics is how they portray the FNs thoughts on queerness, cause on one hand they were one of the only country's (I think) that treated men and women the same but then again it's also the fucking fire nation.

And I also think zukos whole canon arc can be very comparative to queerness,

His dads an asshole and after speaking out against him he throws him out, and zuko try's for 3 years to regain his father's love and acceptance, and then faced with the opportunity of regaining it takes it immediately regardless of who or what he may hurt (iroh, his own morals etc) but once he makes it back home realises how fucked up everything is and eventually confronts his dad and openly tells him he doesn't agree with him then runs aways.

I also wonder if iroh secretly knows jee is queer it doesn't seem that likely to me but it also is iroh so who knows.

I do think Iroh’s reaction will be a big moment for not only the story but for Zuko’s character development. Right now, Zuko’s technically still a prisoner, holding himself there by assuming Iroh will not understand or judge him when in reality he’ll never know what his uncle is thinking until they TALK ABOUT IT. (Which the FN royal family is just sooo good at healthy communication I don’t understand why this is so hard for them lol?!)

I do agree that the suddenness of the relationship combined with the intensity from both zuko and Sokka is very alarming for people looking at it from the outside (I mean we all totally get it cause we were there but others are like uhhhh hmmmm ok this might be concerning) so I get them gossiping and wondering if this is truly real or what the fucks going on with those boys.

I love Zukos canon arc because there’s just so much about zukos story that can be relatable no matter who you are and I think that’s why he is a fan favorite (it doesn’t explain why we torture him the way we do but ehhhh it’s fine haha)

I am still seeing folks whine that Jodie Whittaker ruined Doctor Who.

Oddly enough they can’t seem to actually ever state something she had control over.

She’s an actor, playing a character. Her lines are written and her job is to simply bring that character from paper to life.

I think she did incredibly well! She was animated, she was emotional, she was clever as always and also silly, a happy medium between the tenth and eleventh if I had to compare her to past regenerations. She was new, she was figuring some shit out, and those writers threw thirteen PLENTY of revelations about her past.

Folks complained about the WRITING, and blamed that on Thirteen, on her being a woman. Saying that she made Doctor Who woke. It’s always been woke. Watch the show and pay attention.

Folks critique how heavy handed the “lessons” were, as many doctor who episodes of the past have had at least small lessons in the episodes even if the whole episode wasn’t a lesson.

Yet I can’t exactly fault the writers FOR being heavy handed… so many folks saying that a woman doctor is pandering and “woke”??? Well clearly y’all haven’t got the sense to comprehend media, since all the “wokeness” of the ENTIRE SERIES seems to just blow right over y’all’s heads, I’d probably get heavy handed too! It’d be hard to keep me from straight up having “Racism is wrong!” Written and said in an episode! Same for whatever other social issues they touched on during her time.

Hell, I just had to double check so I wouldn’t be speaking out my ass, but when the Twelfth doctor and Bill Potts went back in time and were at that festival on the Thames, immediately after telling Bill that she should leave the talking to him because she has a temper and diplomacy and patience wins, when the rich dude sees Bill sitting and calls her a “creature” and tells her to stand “in the presence of your betters” Doc taps him on the shoulder and LAID HIM TF OUT.

Doctor Who has BEEN “PC,” it’s been “liberal,” it’s been “leftist” or whatever the hell else folks are complaining about. It always has been, at least regarding “New Who.”

I don’t even hope they STOP glaringly pointing out that outdated beliefs are bad, I just wish they didn’t feel like they HAD to write like that so ignorant folks who skipped all their “literature Literacy” classes in middle school could get the memo!

Bigotry of any form has never made a bit of sense to me, and that is why Doctor Who appealed to me as a kid. It wasn’t like South Park or Family Guy or American Dad where every joke hinges on some sort of bigotry or outdated belief. It has always opposed those beliefs, and I’ve loved that.

Here is my version of John’s hypothetical hidden tattoos!

I had already posted this a long time ago (I still see people draw “my” tattoos from time to time, by the way; thank you!) and I’ve then come up with the other tattoos over time, usually when I needed to draw John. I’m not entirely satisfied with how some of them look in the pictures, but that’s pretty much what I imagine (and now draw every time)!

Several tattoos were either inspired by or taken directly from this book because it was clearly used as a reference by the devs for what’s already on his forearms and hands; others belong to cult VIPs.
