'SCARLEY RAMBLES' TIME

this episode - her shitty crush life?? love life?? of 2020 as a 15 year old (oh, and she can sing??)

first of all, i remember being sick and therefore stuck in my room to avoid getting the other members of my family sick too, and so miss girl was stuck in her bed for a good few days and one day i had finished the latest (at the time) chapter of the second book of rewrite the stars (hehe, love you forever and always em @emso12 <3) whilst, naturally, listening to the playlist i had made for the first and orginal book.. being stuck and bored, miss girl decided to sing and record a few songs from the playlist, as well as give them povs.. now you may be wondering..

see, now this guy, i had just met bc it was the first time we had a class together.. and it was pe of all classes.. so it's australian year 9, i'm 14.. and this guy is like early 06' whilst i'm late 05'.. we become friends like early february and i'm already enamoured.. AND I'M FUCKING OUTED.. now you'd think that at this point, bc i'm outed, we aren't on talking terms anymore.. no this guy says smth along the lines of "i treasure you as a friend, but for now i'm not looking to date rn".. so we're all good, his birthday comes, i get him.. well tbh.. for a year 9 student, i got him pistachios (as his favourite snack), this cool ass cap and a homemade card, drawings, message and all.. he tells me abt all his soccer games, we're just almost always texting..

IT GETS SEXUAL FROM THIS POINT (ok warning has been given)

idk how it started but i just knew it was like mid april.. it wasn't anything too crazy, it was literally just pictures.. well from just me anyway but he literally fed my, well.. now i know it as a praise kink.. there was always clothes tho, no nudity whatsoever.. well not until mid october but we'll get to that soon.. so, this boy knows what i look like underneath my shirt.. like i sent shit without a shirt but i had a bra on.. and so, there isn't sexual tension but like.. it's so obvious i really like him, and to me, i guess this was my validation or my sliver of hope.. we're doing good, he's, not my best friend but he knows so much abt me and vice versa..

mid october comes, and it's when i'm dog sitting with friends an hour or two from where our houses are located (somewhere in the gold coast from my aussie loves) and there's no adults so it's just myself and three other friends and thats when.. this sexual thing starts.. and as an excited and crushing school girl, i did the one thing that he didn't necessarily want and told that little circle bc.. i knew it wouldn't leave that circle (until it did literally a month or two later - without the guy knowing too which baffled me bc we share mutual friends and they can be obvious) and.. i'm 15, i'm this hormonal teenager that now has some kind of relationship with the boy she has the biggest crush on.. even if it was a friends with benefits situation..

and, it's from here where.. the pictures aren't so.. non-sexual.. he was always so sweet abt it bc if i couldn't send anything, unlike most guys, he neverade a big deal abt it.. if i said no, it was a no and we went on with our day.. we did photos, videos, scenario texts, planning what we'd do if we could.. on boxing day, he and our mutual friend, my best friend (at the time) had even spent a few hours with myself and my nephew in our pool.. the sexual tension was crazy but nothing..

then from here, well.. your girls mental health goes downhill, with the upcoming school year of year 10, this guy who's in this thing, doing shit with other girls, i was.. i had to think abt what would be best for me.. and i.. i wanted opinions as to which of the two choices would be best.. those choices being: i end what we had and focus on my mental health OR i continue what we had bc at this point, i just knew i was in love with this guy (11 months is a long time) but my mental health would not improve..

remember that best friend that came over on boxing day and how he was a mutual friend?? i thought "he's my best friend AND his friend, maybe he'll know what's best".. so i told him.. and.. uh he said "shut the fuck up, i can't believe you'd go behind my back and do this, you both are unbelievable, this is why i have trust issues" and bearing in mind, this was the same guy that had said 2 weeks prior to this that i had two holes to fuck both joseph and this other friend of theirs.. bc they knew i liked joseph and there was some thing with this other guy that i don't know too much abt..

anyway.. so he goes off at me, then not only him, not only joseph but that whole group blocks me and.. it's like.. it really was like my whole world had gone black.. then somewhat started a rumour abt me or said i started a runour abt them and it all went to shits.. i felt awful and THEN i find out from a good friend.. that he had been talking.. like t a l k i n g to another girl (who i knew and bless her) and i just felt used.. bc whilst this guy and i were planning in fucking losing our virginities, he was talking to a girl i knew (we literally bonded over this bc neither of us knew abt the other, and she could not emphasise more on the fact that she did not know abt me and the thing i had with him)..

(tw: self harm, dried blood)

i was.. it wasn't the best time for me.. i had lost at this point, 3 months of being clean before i just couldn't stop myself.. and then he unblocked me, followed me and then texted me saying that he wanted to meet up the next day at school to properly apologise.. i agreed bc i knew i deserved it.. and i did get the apology i deserved (and the girl absolutelyhackled him, making sure he did give me the apology i deserved).. i was silent most of this talk, moreso.. mindlessly staring and trying not to pick at the dried blood whilst also trying to formulate what to say.. he ended up staying with me the whole break, not just walking off after saying sorry, and he did walk me to my class and after this talk i was so sure that we were okay.. i was ready to mend my mental health and my heart to continue to pour to him..

and then he blocked me a month later.. and, we've had minor conversations but it hasn't been the same since.. before him, i loved one other person but i was like 13 (it's just.. when yk, yk) so going thru this really was my first, and hardest heartbreak

i will always feel sick if i see, read, hear or say the name 'joseph'.. and it'll never be the same for me..

if you stayed till the end (haha, shameless promo), well fuck i love you.. and we're basically best friends now bc.. that story.. is probably one of the biggest things to happen in my life.. given it took a good year of my mid teen years.. anyway, it's borderline 4am so imma get some rest BUT I LOVE YOU ALL AND FUCK ALL THE JOSEPHS (except the sweet ones reading this/who read this, i love ig) muah <3

Good evening, and welcome to my most niche post yet! my friend challenged me to assign a hermit to all the songs on my playlist of songs that are........ Unconvetional.... I failed, not all of them have hermits with them because i couldn’t diagnosis the vibe to my standards

I am going on an adventure, I've been pulled into this world I know nothing about and I am just endlessly curious about it. There's just all these things going on and they're all moving and making this caphoney of noise. And then I'm greeted by someone who asks me where I came from.before my name. And I barely answer before they decide it doesn't matter, let's go exploring, there's more to see after all! (Also, wrote a song about zedaphs cave contraptions that was Very Much inspired by this artist)

Doc - Cockroach king, artist: haken,

genre: i- idk... its switches between metal and barbershop quartet and has a jazz solo in the middle

Reason: hes got a big ass goat statue and a fun cult and that is the Vibe of this song. And like, doc would definitely succumb and become a follower of the cockroach king if it promised him inifinte knowledge and power, especially if he was under the (false) impression he could usurp the cockroach king and become the leader of a new army. Thats a doc thing to do

Beef - Something in the air Artist: Thunderclap Newman

genre: ... rock according to google but that isn’t the vibe at all.. there are like.. flutes in this peice

it feels like this is beef’s style of music somehow, its got chill vibes but occasionally dips into some really off the cuff stuff.

This song invited me in for a cup of tea and asked me if I wanted any food, and somehow I ended up cutting vegetables with it while talking about noting in particular. We hadn’t met before, but the vibes were so lovely it felt like speaking to an old friend. It was very friendly and warm, we somehow made inside jokes without having known them before hand, it was just a very nice time. And then like half way through I noticed this llama head on the side and was like ‘whats that?’ and he was like,’ oh its nothing, just llamadad’ and I was like ‘llama dad?’ and he said ‘yeah llama dad’ like it was no big deal. It was jarring but in a very whimisical like I suddenly lost the conversation half way and I was just sorta standing there like… what? But he treated it like it was no big deal so I guess it wasn’t a big deal. Honestly it somehow made sense. And then he just, switched back to talking about vegetables like nothing happened. It was a fun evening in all honestly. 10/10 would do it again

Cubfan - Slip artist: shubh saran

genre: indian influenced modern jazz.

Feels like a labyrinth that the maker is inviting me to try it (for a cost of course) knowing full well I won't make it out. t has big pharoh vibes, very interesting rhythms that feel somehow both very regular yet also off kilter which feels like cubs vibes, very lawful feral (the music theory behind one is very cool actually)

Cleo - Ellen/Oprah Artist: Adam Neely and Ben levin

genre: Uhhhhhh... indie rock with japansese folk influences and also its lowkey jaz....

Reason Got this very specific vibe, it's slow, but there's this undercurrent to. The lyric 'watching people live takes the life out of me'? Very Cleo. I can Hear her saying that to keralis or someone, also the song Slaps and I love Cleo next question

Grian - Electro artist, Sungazer

genre: electrojazz... sorry

This song feels cheeky, like it's gonna fill my base with chickens for fun and steal my doors because it wanted to see my reaction. But then it grows into this really cool complicate thing with loads of layers it is escalates and becomes this really big force. Its got all these different styles and ideas and projects that it somehow brings together into this big cohesive piece whilst maintaining the air of glee and and cheek. Its almost overwhelming but it's still fun the entire time, no one knows what will happen next but we're all along for the ride babey!!!!

Mumbo - Dream of Mahjong Artist: Sungazer

Genre: More Electrojazz babyyyy

This feels like a machine being built. Mumbos redstone is simultaneously very good but doesn't take itself too seriously. This song use the very classic computer noises both earnestly and like it's in on the joke. And this huge soaring section appears and you're like : I thought you said you weren't a builder??? But it gone a made those huge, beautiful monument in the middle in the middle of the jungle and you're like wow, okay, so you're just good at everything huh but it never feels intimidating.

Impulse - Kitchen beat, artist: nct,

genre: kpop, but really fucking weird

Reason: this song is so upbeat but focused, it feels like hyperfocusing on a project and just, going at it until its done, you’re enjoying yourself the entire time. It feels efficient but still fun, it reminds me of the start of impulses verse in hermitgang ‘Caffeinated, animated, redstone innovator, My behavior's crazy, can't phase me’ like ooh shit! It builds builds and you like damn, this shits good. Theres like no chords or melody, its texture and it feels sparky somehow. Very impulse to me

Keralis - Chain Artist: NCT

genre: again, kpop, but like.. real fuckin weird

the background instrumental feels a lot like a growing industrial district and construction. Everything is just getting bigger and better. No one really know what its building, but its sure growing! Also, the chords in the bridge are the same as the chorus for britinay spears toxic, which feels very keralis.

Scar - Shibuya Artist: Covet, San Holo

genre: I... no one knows but its very pretty

feels very complex but calm, its hard to follow if you try Its still calming to listen to, it feels like something is being made in front of you and its just magic to you because you have no idea how the person even began to make something so good. It just sorta starts and you’re like, wow this is already really damn pretty, but it just keeps getting better in ways you really couldn’t even begin to do yourself. Its like watching someone whos an expert in something you have no idea about, but you can just Tell they’re Very Good. It feels like one of scar’s time lapses, where he describes what he’s gonna do and you’re like: oh okay, I know how this is gonna look, and then its somehow absolutely nothing like you expect and just so much better than you could even imagine.

Tango - Punch –Artist NCT

genre: so like.. imagine kpop but it induces amnesia

the VERY BEGINNING feels like its grinning at me in a very tango manner.

Like it definitely has red eyes and challenged me to beat it if I thought I could. Its like entering a boss fight with friend, and you both know what you’re doing to the point were theres like a competition between the 2 of you, even tho you’re fighting the same guy together. It feels like im entering a dangerous place with someone but we both got it completely under control to the point where its just Fun reveling in it all. Also as high as we can get, as loug as we can get is Very Tango

Genre: French folk music, specifically a bouree

if you’ve read my folk au stuff, you’ll know why. He’s forever linked with this band for me now. It feels like a medieval home with a fire a roaring and you just know you’re safe

Xisuma - Thrive Artist: The Contortionist

genre: prog rock

an anon actually said this song reminded them of xisuma and I have never been the same since because they’re very right. It’s starts in a very normal time signature and then switched to 7/8 and then get even further in on itself and get tos time signitures I haven’t worked out yet. It very intense and the deeper you go the more complex it gets. But its still very steady and in control, its never feels like it getting away from the musicians. It’s clearly thought through and planeed but somehow feels off the cuff, like theres more going on we don’t get to see. Also the lyrics ‘We’re engineered to thrive’? That’s got xisuma written all over for me. (I fucking love this song so much it’s a problem

SURVIVAL GUIDE & STUDY TIPS

hello everyone!! this post is a collab with the lovely and amazing @boinkhs because we've both reached 2k followers :D she'll be doing study tips for college students and i'll be doing study tips for high schoolers. check out her post here!

i've split this into part 1. survival, which concerns how to study & learn better in general and just tips on how to get through high school. part 2. is on specific study tips for each type of subject, namely sciences, maths, languages and humanities.

1. Don't snooze please

you just end up snoozing 5 times then you’re late for school

2. If you find you have difficulty getting out of bed, just keep in mind ONE TASK you need to do.

for example, making your bed. then you just gotta focus on that! it should help fight the sleepiness because you’re forcing your brain and limbs to be active.

3. Do the necessary things like brushing your teeth, putting on clothes and eat breakfast

i don’t know why but some people don’t eat breakfast before coming to school like ???? excuse me ???? please eat at least a small snack, or a fruit or something. your body doesnt function on an empty stomach! also, drink some water to hydrate yourself

4. On the road, you should do something that puts you in a good mood.

for me, i go straight to spotify and listen to my playlist. you should also review the previous day’s learning so that you refresh your memory before going back to class. personally this is my fav part of the day HAHAHA

5. If you like, you can choose to read a book.

just make sure you’re calm but ‘warmed up’ to focusing in a sense.

1. Hydrate frequently

idk man it just keeps you awake + i dont feel so icky if i drink enough water

2. Learn actively

if the teacher asks questions, try to answer. sit at the front row. offer to help give out the worksheets or notes. clarify your doubts after. when they speak, copy down notes. don’t worry about the aesthetic; i mean you can but you need to write fast and neat which unfortunately doesnt come together very often. i suggest you spend more brain power digesting and understanding the content.

3. Don’t over highlight

ONLY KEY POINTS that are stressed by the teacher. you can tell when their tone changes, expression changes, when they use more hand motions, or they keep repeating a few key words. yes , that. highlight that. stare at it while listening to them speak. make sure you understand. if you don’t please ask. but make sure you don’t have a fluorescent page because that’s not ideal study material!

4. Write down any questions you have

if they’re answered in the lesson, cancel them off. if not, ask after the lesson. dont be scared! *sends virtual courage*

5. Use whatever free time you have to finish homework

because you’re gonna thank yourself later. you should spend more time at home revising than doing homework. ( doing homework isnt equivalent to revising PLEASE I KNOW SO MANY PEOPLE WHO SAY THEY REVISED FOR 3 HOURS BUT ALL THEY DID WAS HOMEWORK ) also it feels better knowing you have one less thing to worry about

6. Record down all assignments, due dates and test dates

do it in a planner or your phone. doesn’t matter just keep them somewhere. it can be demoralising to see an entire entry of shit to get done but still it’s better than not knowing what needs to be done. ignorance is NOT bliss. try to color code or symbol code them, for example • for assignments (due date behind), - for tests etc. act on this when you go home (see below)

7. Have a file/binder some form of organisation to keep different subjects’ worksheets, tests, notes, reading etc.

you can have one massive binder, one binder for each subject, one folder file for each subject or anything that suits you. for me, i clip all materials of one subject together with a binder clip. the materials i use most are at the front for easy reference. then put those bundles into zipper files, perhaps one for math and sciences, another for languages and humanities. or whatever suits you best! make sure you have everything in one place so you don’t panic and dig through a pile of dog-eared paper.

8. If you can, when it’s near the exam period, don’t stay back after school unless it’s to study.

i used to stay back for training and to play volleyball with my friends and i kid you not we would play from 2pm to 6.30 pm and get nothing done but it was fun. and i’m not saying deprive yourself of that fun but when the exams are near, you should be studying somewhere quiet/ somewhere you can focus. you should go somewhere (preferably home) where you can focus and get things done.

9. Decide if you’re a lone wolf or if you need a study buddy/study group

personally i’m a lone wolf because i hate distractions and i don’t want to distract others. but when my friends ask me for help i don’t mind staying back a little to teach them and/or study with them. Personally i find that for subjects like english which require you to write about an array of topics, studying with someone else can help in generation of essay points and to just broaden your understanding of the topic. so yeah it really depends, just do what suits you :)

10. Take notes in class

try to understand while copying, and if you didn’t understand something, you should raise your hand and ask for the teacher to repeat so that you hear it again. also, it gives you more time to take notes as they re-explain the content. read them after the lesson is over to help internalise some facts. you can create your own method of organisation for your notes, e.g. colour coding.

1. Review the day’s learning on the way home.

if you take public transport, try to flip through your notes and worksheets to review new content for the first time.

2. Eat lunch, have a snack, take a shower, everything that’s necessary.

if you use your phone while eating, make sure you don’t eat slowly just to use your phone because that’s wasting time.

3. If you’re super tired, just have a 15-20min power nap

nothing more otherwise you will NEVER wake up until the dead of night. just take a nap to get some energy back. doesnt matter if you wake up feeling more tired, because you’ll shake that feeling in a while. keep a glass of water beside you so that you can drink it once you wake up!

4. Look through your ‘list’ that you made earlier in the day. (in class, pt. 6)

you might want to spend max 10 mins updating your schedule. then stare at the dreaded homework. start with the easiest and least time consuming to build up momentum. this could actually be the remainder of what you’ve finished in school. then look at the due dates. do them in order of due dates. unless it’s a huge project or assignment, you might want a head start on it!

5. With the remaining time, you should start revising

review the day’s learning AGAIN.

make notes/mindmaps/flashcards whatever works for you. you should prioritise the subject or chapter that you were most confused about. quickly revise and try to clear up any questions you have about the chapter. if you have additional time, go ahead and make notes for the next subject! another way is going through corrections and clarifying your doubts with friends/teachers, and summarise the day’s learning on a post-it or two. if you’ve already taken notes in class, look at other sources e.g textbook and combine what you’ve learnt before re-writing or re-organising your notes.

1. Pack your bag!

remove unnecessary materials, and pack the necessary one. make sure your bag isnt too heavy. you can choose to hand carry some files or binders if they’re too bulky, but make sure you’re all packed before the next morning

2. Have a meal & clean up

again, basic necessities. don’t go to bed hungry or feeling icky because thats not how you treat yo self!

Before class:

if you’re going to continue on a chapter, review the content that came before it. Try to make your own connections between the already learnt and to-be learnt content so that you’re mentally ready for class.

In class:

take down notes, highlight, annotate and DRAW DIAGRAMS. you can’t do sciences without diagrams. for physics or chemistry which require more calculation, copy down the problems your teacher goes through and solve them along with him/her. write the formulas on a post it note so you can stick it onto the page where you’re writing for easy reference. if the teacher plays a video which is MOST DEFINITELY NOT GOING TO WAIT FOR YOU you have to write only the relevant points in the most abbreviated form possible.

Note-taking:

I find that linear notes help me most in sciences. for chapters that involve lots of interconnected processes, for example o chem, then mindmaps or flowcharts will be helpful. also if you tend to forget something, post-it that stuff on the front page of your notes where you are FORCED to stare at it. yes. write down example problems and their steps, then write explanations for each step so that if you’re confused you can always refer back. again, draw any required diagrams.

Answering techniques:

if there’s a ‘standard’ way to answer it then you have to make sure you follow that way even in your homework because it’s muscle memory. when you get to exams, your hand will automatically write in the same format so you don’t lose marks or spend time recalling the correct format.

imo sciences are quite logical so as long as you remember and follow the flow you’ll be fine!

In class:

copy key terms, facts and examples and write all examples that the teacher has gone through. write all formulas and definitions on a post it, then shift it around the pages as needed. if there’s a type of problem you particularly suck at, ask your teacher for help IMMEDIATELY because it’s so easy to forget the steps to a problem.

At home:

do your homework, do additional practice, correct your mistakes, clarify, and repeat. memorise formulas and definitions (perhaps using flashcards or post its) then practice more and make sure your concepts are strong. there’s no easy way and sadly this is all i can comment.

In class:

copy down notes, think actively, and if you’re given a sample essay you should annotate the heck out of it and keep it somewhere safe.

For essays:

read up more and write up. befriend the best writer in class and ask for their essays. write essay plans and consult your teacher. brainstorm possible approaches with friends. read the news, and copy the links of interesting online articles for future reference. have a go-to list of examples and quotes you can use, for any and every topic. read these like your bedtime story and never forget to keep updating them.

For comprehension passages:

read the questions first. then you’ll be more sensitive to what you need to read in the passage and how you need to analyse it. try to question yourself about how and why the author does something or makes you feel something. do not rush-read the passage or you will fail horribly (personal experience). do one or two extra comprehensions and ask your teacher to mark them.

In class:

ARROWS TO LINK EVERYTHING and annotate any class notes given. write down new examples provided by the teacher. if there is a link you ‘can check out’ go check it out. it’s probably something thats gonna be on the exam.

At home:

you have to rely on mindmapping and flow charts because everything is linked in some way and you cannot ignore those links!!!! although i do my humanities notes in linear form, my in class notes are all in the form of mindmaps. and actually i revise from those in a pinch because i can see everything at one go. watch vids on the concepts, for example plate tectonics. those things are so hard to see when they’re deadass sitting on the page and not budging. watch a video where they really move instead of being frozen.

If you’re so frickin lost:

watch more videos on the concepts, watch more videos on the events, search up interpretations online and ask your teachers!!! for everyone who gets equally lost as me when i’m faced with a new chapter, another way is to pre-read before the teacher starts teaching. if you’re lazy to read just watch a couple clips on it so that at least you have some background. even if you wake up the next day with 0 concrete memory, which you won’t, you’ll already have the flow of things which will help you if you’re usually the straggler.

(disclaimer i study geography although i've tried history and english literature but i think that they're similar to some extent, especially on how to study them)
