Everything about Jennie was as proper as could be. Her shoes never seemed to scuff, not even the pair with the studs that she loved so much; her pleated skirts never dared utter a single wrinkle and if you ever thought to see a hair out of place, even after a session of hot yoga, well…you’d thought wrong. When Jennie first started coming around, you swore she was some park avenue princess with the way she insisted on paying for meals and buying you things without having known each other long. You two had met through a friend of a friend at a mellow house party but never exchanged social media or anything. You just couldn’t see yourself befriending her, preferring instead to focus on your studies for your senior year of college. Making it to these parties occasionally and chatting up strangers for a while was all you really had time for. So it was much to your surprise running into Jennie at a café on campus that you frequented weekday afternoons whenever you didn’t have class or work. She had tapped you on your shoulder then embraced your figure once you turned around to see who was invading your personal space. That day she had on a canary yellow peacoat and her hair smelled of coconut, two things you’d noticed as her arms lingered around your frame for a beat too long. The next day she wore a mauve peacoat that perfectly complimented the blush on her cheeks. Next was periwinkle and then taupe before you finally asked her why she was suddenly such a fan of the coffee on your campus seeing as how she wasn’t a student at the university.

“Well, I…I’m not actually. The coffee here is subpar and don’t even get me started on the tea selection.” You stared at her with a blank expression until she defeatedly sighed and placed her mug on the table. “You didn’t give me your number before you left Yoongi’s party. And when I asked him for it, he refused to give it to me and instead told me I could probably find you here.” You both sat there staring at each other for what seemed like minutes before you gave up, breaking eye contact to sip on your coffee and turn to the next page in your psychology book. At that point you didn’t care why she wanted to befriend you so bad, but you also didn’t care enough to push her away, so you two sat there in comfortable silence as you went over this week’s cognitive dissonance chapter. You figured you had made a good impression at the party and she probably didn’t have much going on to keep herself busy.

It didn’t take long for Jennie to weasel her way into being your best friend despite your callous indifference of her incessant presence in the coffee house. It also wasn’t a coveted title to obtain as you hadn’t been a social butterfly lately. It took a good amount of begging before she convinced you to sign up for yoga classes with her, held on the evenings 4 floors below her penthouse, only a month after she began visiting you on campus. At that point, you hadn’t minded her company so much anymore as you got to know the goofy yet intelligent aspects of her personality that vibed well with your own. If you were being truthful with yourself, you were happy Jennie had managed to become a good friend of yours because things had gotten stale and lonely having only your schoolwork and job to focus on. Still, however, Jennie remained an enigma to you as generally people of her stature didn’t go out of their way to befriend someone like you, especially when you’ve made them work for it. One night, you agreed to go up to her place for a glass of wine after yoga and that’s when all the walls finally came down. The façade of her perfect image came tumbling down as she admitted to feeling immense pressure to be who everyone else thought she was. She also admitted to finally feeling seen that night you two met at Yoongi’s party when you complimented the song she played on the stereo. Everyone was complaining about her music choices being too mellow to dance to but once you had arrived at the party you loved the strum of the guitar you heard as you sipped on your drink and decided to compliment whoever it was that was playing the song. The memory of her babbling into her glass for 45 minutes as her top knot loosened and drooped over her forehead was a warm one that never quite left you. And it was also the same night where you started to finally let her in.

“Let’s get pizza.” Jennie looked up from scrolling on her endless Instagram feed at the sound of her stomach rumbling.

Without looking up from your phone, you shook your head no and replied, “Nah, sorry I have to tutor that kid in a bit, remember?” Jennie sucked her teeth and solemnly went back to her phone screen.

“Why did you agree to do that anyway?” she whined childishly.

“You know I could really use the money Jen. A girls got bills.” You sighed as you scrolled past a beautiful pair of boots advertised on your timeline.

“I will literally buy you whatever you want, you know that.” Jennie rolled her eyes as her face settled into a pout while leaning her head into her palm.

“I know, and that’s the problem.” You chuckled bitterly. “I’ve got way too many family members born next month so I need to save up some money for presents. You can come shopping with me if you want.”

“Ugh okay, but I’m not letting you drag me into another thrift shop! Those places give me the heebie-jeebies! Who knows what ---”

The alarm on your phone signaling the tutoring session approaching interrupted Jennie mid-sentence. You shot her an apologetic look as her pout became even more pronounced. “We can get pizza when I’m done. Gotta go for now though! Text ya later.” You swung your bookbag across your shoulder and swiftly entered the elevator that would take you to the main floor. As you descended through all 21 floors, you recalled how uncomfortable it was to hang out at her place in the beginning stages of your budding friendship. Now you’ve gotten so used to the obscure paintings on the walls and expensive decorations that you wondered if it was you who was making space for her eccentricity in your life or if it was her lavish lifestyle that was making way for boring old you. Just then the doors swung open into the hustle and bustle of the lobby, effectively interrupting your train of thought as you blended into the chaos of busy people.

“Jeon Jungkook?” You bent over to peer at the brown-haired boy who was huddled over his laptop’s screen. This café on campus was one of the less popular ones, which made it easier to assume this boy was your tutee as he was the only one at the café apart from a girl hunched over a table lightly snoring. He peered up at you in a double-take then settled on the screen of his laptop as he ferociously jabbed on the directional keys of the keyboard.

“Yeah, that’s me…are you the…tutor?” His distractedness during your introduction confused you before you glanced at his computer and realized he was in the middle of an online SMITE match. Normally you would be content in waiting for him to finish before you could start the session but the idea of missing out on pizza annoyed you. You decided to close his laptop shut and keep your finger on top of it until he was forced to give you his undivided attention.

“Hi! I’m (Y/N), your English tutor. If you don’t mind, I have plans later so I’d like to get started as soon as possible.” You plastered a wide smile on your face. The boy, too stunned to respond, sat there frozen as you dropped your book bag onto the chair and began taking out a notebook and a pencil.

“Sorry.” You heard him mumble under his breath but pretended not to hear it to avoid an awkward moment. Instead, you smiled at him again and asked exactly what he needed help with. “We’re reading this book in class right now and there’s a book report due next week. The language is really obscure, and I don’t even know how to begin analyzing the context.” You picked up his copy of the book and fanned the worn out pages.

“Well, lucky for you this is one of my favorite books! So I can actually help you a lot with your report.” You handed the book back to him with a smile and wink. Jungkook instantly blushed and chuckled while rubbing the back of his neck.

“Thanks in advance, I have a feeling I’ll be needing a lot of your help.” Jungkook’s quick sweep of your body didn’t go unnoticed but nonetheless, you decided to dive into the tutoring session. It was hard to ignore the butterflies in your stomach throughout as you noticed more and more how boyishly handsome he was and what a nice smile he had. The possibility of him being into you made it harder to concentrate and made you blush when you accidentally had skin to skin contact while taking a paper from his hands. Being flustered was extremely unlike you, but you credited your sudden lameness to your year-long lack of sex. Taking a deep breath gave you a moment of clarity and the resolve to finish the session as professionally as possible.

“So…when can I see you again? For tutoring I mean?” Jungkook tried hard to stay as nonchalant as possible but his crooked smile directed downwards as he packed up his belongings gave it away. During the session you realized he didn’t need much help at all and would most likely only need the one day of tutoring. Nonetheless, you decided to take the bait, but not without making him work for it.

“If you feel the need for more tutoring sessions you can schedule an appointment on the school’s website.” With that, you swiftly zipped up your book bag and headed out of the coffee shop.

It only took a couple days to receive Jungkook’s request for a follow-up tutoring session set for Thursday of next week. You chuckled in the bright glow of your computer’s screen that shown brightly in your dark room. When you clicked on the notification to expand the details of his request, you noticed the location preference was set to his dorm room. Your light chuckle turned into a breathy laugh. This kid had balls, you had to admit. You kept waiting for his cheekiness to rub you the wrong way sober you up but the more signs he showed of interest the more you were inclined to entertain them. It wasn’t like you to let the other person take charge in your relationship, preferring instead to be completely transparent from the beginning and taking joy in asking the other out. You didn’t care much for games and titles but the one of “dominant” given to you by your freshman year friends was not lost on you. You, instead, chose to embrace it and accept that your ‘take charge’ attitude would turn off undesirable suitors and attract the kind of people you could actually be with. You leaned back in your chair and sipped on your tea before hitting the “accept” button and shutting off your computer.

That night you tried to fall asleep but too many thoughts of your upcoming graduation, approaching due dates for schoolwork and a very cute brunette junior kept you up until dusk. Just when you finally started to drift off to sleep, you felt a soft dip in the bed that instantly woke you.

“Sorry, sorry...” Jennie whispered as she got under the covers. You looked at her incredulously before she responded again, “I couldn’t sleep and your bed is comfy. Also, you left your keys attached to the door again. You should really be more careful (Y/N).” You hummed in agreement, too tired to address her forced entry into your apartment and settling to be big spoon for the night.

The obnoxious sounds of your phone’s alarm awoke both of you with a start. Jennie grumbled and pressed a pillow to her ears. “It is an ungodly hour to be awake! Turn it off!” You immediately grabbed your phone and hopped out of bed to start getting ready for work. “What are you doing?” Jennie rubbed her eyes and squinted at you through the golden morning rays shining through the discombobulated shutters on your bedroom window.

“I have work in an hour. We can’t all be sleeping princesses until noon.” You stuck your tongue out at her before beginning to brush your teeth. Jennie rolled her eyes and went back to bed. She was already long used to your poking fun at her lazy and rich lifestyle, choosing to simply ignore your quips.

You managed to get ready at a record-breaking speed of 20 minutes. As you slipped the last shoe on, you peered at Jennie whose body lay impossibly still under the covers with her shiny black hair spilling out onto your pillow like plant roots. You decided to tip toe over to check if she was already sleeping. You didn’t want to wake her, so you settled for moving her bangs out of her eyes and whispering “I’ll see you after work” before heading out for the day. You could’ve sworn you noticed her blushing but figured it was all in your imagination.

Working at the boutique wasn’t your favorite thing in the world but the pay was decent. You had started working there your sophomore year after seeing a “help wanted” ad in the window of a small men’s formal suiting shop. You were at the downtown fashion district with your usual group of freshman year friends killing time and decided there wasn’t any harm in filling out an application at the counter. The job had looked easy enough, but after getting hired you soon learned differently. You realized just how difficult it was to take charge of older men in conversations about men’s suiting, and even more so dressing them. It took a lot of guts and studying men’s fashion before you grew into your own at the shop. The effort you started putting into your job along with increasingly difficult classes had you falling out of contact with those same friends. You had to admit that the thought of growing apart from your friends was much less painful than you thought it might be freshman year. Your likes and goals were entirely different by now, but most importantly, you were becoming someone you liked and respected.

That afternoon after leaving Jennie in your bed, you found yourself focusing on steaming the leg on a pair of gray linen pants when suddenly you heard the bell at the top of the entrance ring signaling a customer entering the store. You immediately turned off the steamer and rushed to the counter to greet them only to be dumbstruck at the sight in front of you. Jungkook and an older man entered the store amidst conversation. Your utter confusion rendered you speechless as they looked around the store for help.

“Ah, young lady, do you work here?” The older man addressed you kindly across the store.

You looked between him and Jungkook for a moment before your professionalism kicked in. “Yes! Hi, sorry! I was busy steaming and didn’t see you guys. Welcome to Suits 4 U, how can I assist you guys today?” You kept your eyes trained on the older gentleman but didn’t miss how Jungkook’s mouth hung open the entire time. Did he know you worked there before showing up or was it just a mere coincidence? Either way, the excitement of seeing him unexpectedly before your tutoring session gave you a tiny thrill masked under your polite smile.

“Well, I’m here with my son to get him fitted for his first suit. He has an internship coming up this summer at a finance company and we need him to look his best.” The man chuckled while patting Jungkook’s shoulder. His eyes formed crescent moons while smiling which instantly disarmed you. “Is Raphael here? I’ve been coming to him for years; this shop is just great.”

You laughed and tucked some hair behind your ear. “Thank you so much! He’s not in right now but, I can help you out myself if that’s okay. Your son looks to be about a 32 waist and 34 inseams?” The older man nodded in astonishment and looked towards Jungkook to confirm.

“Uh…yeah that’s exactly right.” Jungkook rubbed his neck in embarrassment.

“Don’t be shy, kook! You let the nice lady fit you for a good suit and I’ll be right here if you need me.” You and the man exchanged smiles before walking around the counter to show Jungkook to the fitting area behind the curtains. You helped him up onto the platform in front of 3 adjacent mirrors before busying yourself looking for a style of suit in his sizes that would flatter him.

Jungkook cleared his throat before speaking, “So…I didn’t know you had two jobs. Must be rough during your senior year.”

Without missing a beat, you responded, “How did you know I was a senior?”

“You mentioned it in your Facebook status.” Jungkook quickly replied with a straight face.

“So, you stalked me?” You laughed incredulously.

“More like researched. You’re a pretty private person so I didn’t find much if that makes you feel better.” Jungkook smiled widely which made you instinctively blush. Too flustered to respond you simply handed him a white button-down shirt. He immediately removed his plain black t-shirt and began buttoning the white one at an incredibly slow pace. You caught his eyes in the center mirror and realized he saw you ogling at his pecks. You immediately turned around as he continued watching you through the mirror with a shit-eating grin.

“Here, put these on.” You handed him a matching black chino suit with a European tailoring finish. Jungkook hadn’t stopped staring at you as he removed his pants and dressed himself. You were determined not to swoon at his gorgeous physique in front of him, choosing instead to jut your hip out and cross your arms while tapping your foot. “You take forever to get dressed.”

“I could use your help.”

“With?”

“Tucking my shirt in, I don’t want to wrinkle it.”

You scoffed and proceeded to gingerly tuck his shirt around his waist. You didn’t miss the way his abs reflexively twitched as your hands got to the front of his pants. He put the blazer on at once then adjusted his cuffs in the mirror. You had to admit that the way the pants tapered in on his ankles and how the blazer did the same around his waist was very flattering. You absent-mindedly brushed lint off his shoulder and brushed out the wrinkles on the arms while admiring your work in the mirror. As your eyes made their way up his frame you caught his cocky ass grin again which only made you roll your eyes. “What now, Jeon? What is so funny to you?”

“Just admit you’re into me.” You froze for a second before responding.

“Excuse me?”

“Oh, you heard me pretty well. I think that you’re into me and the way you act all tough in front of me really turns me on, so I’d like to take you out on a date sometime.”

Before you could reply, Jungkook’s dad appeared from behind the curtains and whistled at the sight of his son in a tailored suit. “Wow, that looks really good. If you’re okay with it Kook I think we’ll take it!”

“I don’t know dad, what do you think (Y/N)? Does this look good on me?” Jungkook bit his bottom lip, looking you in the eyes and daring you to confirm his beliefs. The audacity this guy had to call you out had you at a loss for words for the second time tonight. You settled for nodding and smiling.

You decided to wait behind the counter for Jungkook to undress, making small talk with his dad to pass the time. His love for his son was evident in the way he spoke so highly of him to a mere stranger. The thought warmed your heart. In a matter of 5 minutes, you were waving them both out of the door with Jungkook’s new suit in a garment bag. The remainder of your shift went by painfully slow without the silky haired boy entertaining you. You briefly considered canceling your upcoming tutoring session since it was evident the professionalism between you two was shot after this afternoon. But who were you kidding? There was no way you were going to let him get the better of you, it just wasn’t in you to submit.

You snapped out of your reverie at the feeling of a piece of popcorn bouncing off your cheek. As you turned your head to look at Jennie, several popcorn pieces fell out of your hair and onto the shaggy white rug you were sitting Indian style on. It was movie night at Jennie’s apartment, but the foreign film wasn’t captivating your interest, not when you had Jeon’s abs on your mind.

“Hey what gives?!” You started to flick pieces of popcorn back at Jennie as you found them in the carpet. She giggled while swatting them away from her face.

“Watching this movie was YOUR idea and you’re not even paying attention! You’ve been all daydreamy lately. Are you going to tell me what’s up or not?” Jennie set her bowl of popcorn aside and crossed her arms, giving you a pointed look. When it comes to Jennie, there is no escape once the interrogation starts. This wouldn’t be the first time you were under fire for withholding information from her. Despite preferring to be a private person, you never minded being completely transparent with Jennie. With time, you came to understand how loyal and trustworthy she was. Being left in the dark was just something that always bothered her, which you could understand. You sighed as you turned away from the television to face her.

“You know that guy I tutored the other day?”

“Yea?”

“I kinda want to fuck him.” Jennie froze for a second as she searched for something in your eyes.

“Okay…um…well, does he reciprocate your feelings?’

“I think he’s made it pretty obvious yeah. I just don’t know though, I’ve never been into younger guys but he’s…really hot.” You laughed as a blush overtook your cheeks. Your admission embarrassed you, even in front of your best friend. Jennie bit her lip as she laid horizontally on the couch staring at the ceiling.

“Do you have a picture of him?”

“Hmm…I can show you his Instagram.” Admitting you already perused his social media made you further embarrassed. “Before you judge me, it’s been a really long time, okay?” You scrolled on his page for a bit before finding a good enough picture of him to show her then reluctantly handed your phone over. After analyzing the selfie of him on his bed, Jennie went back to his page and started looking at other pictures of him: ones of him in his baseball uniform, laughing on a couch with a few of his friends, dancing in a goofy manner to some pop song and the list goes on. After a minute, she rolled her eyes and handed the phone back to you. Her reaction had you quirking an eyebrow as you grabbed it from her hands. “…What?”

“Oh, nothing.” Jennie closed her eyes and intertwined her hands over here stomach, intent on not giving anything away. You lunged at her sides to unleash a flurry of tickles.

“Tell me, wench!” Your consistent tickling had her hollering at the top of her lungs and squirming to escape your grip.

“I’ll never say, peasant!” You decided to straddle her midsection and pin her flailing legs down, holding her wrists to do the same.

“Jennie Ruby Jane. Tell me, NOW!” Your long brown hair fell over your shoulder and tickled her cheek. She turned her head to the side as a final act of rebellion which only spurred your torturing on further. You began to hock a loogie dramatically which earned a valley of squeals from the pale girl.

“Okay! Okay!” You chuckled at the sign of her defeat and sat back on her hips, letting her wrists go. She sat up on her forearms pouting up at you. “You’re so extra!” the girl shouted with amusement in her eyes. After a moment of silence, she spoke, “I just think he looks like a fuck boy. It’s not going to go anywhere between you guys.” You let out a breathy laugh at her admission.

“No shit, I just want some dick!”

“Then why are you getting blushy and daydreamy if he’s only a dick to you?” She challenged you.

“Ummmm, maybe because it’s been a while and it’s nice to get some male attention during these barren times?” You rolled your eyes and climbed off of her.

“Yeah, whatever (Y/N). Keep telling yourself that.” Jennie returned your eye roll with her own and fully sat up on the couch.

“Are we going to watch this movie or not!? You’re making it hard to focus!” You continued on with your dramatic act but failed as a smiled tugged at your lips.

“OMG, you are unbelievable!” Both of you laughed and resumed your movie, only one of you being content to put that conversation behind.

Your Thursday afternoon shift at work dragged on because of how much you were looking forward to the tutoring session with Jungkook set for right after. Your finger drumming on the front counter and persistent glances at the clock earned some questions from the shop owner which you easily shrugged off as some trip you were looking forward to after work. As soon as the clock struck six you grabbed your jean jacket off of the coat rack and caught the shuttle back to campus. The junior dorms were just a stop before the coffee shop stop, so you already knew where you were going. You decided to just wear your work clothes paired with a denim jacket since the tight-fitting black dresses you wore as a work uniform were nice anyway. Just before you arrived at the lobby of the dorms, you caught your reflection in a car window and decided to check how you looked. Nothing unusual stood out. Your long curly hair swung just above your behind and your mascara and eyebrow gel still held on strong, the only two things you allowed on your face since the number of times you rubbed your face during class made it virtually unrealistic to wear a full face of makeup. Because of that, you settled for wearing shorter clothing that would show off your long legs. Feeling sexy in your own skin without putting way too much effort into your image was something you learned was the perfect combination to feeling happy with yourself, which was hard to do as you were generally always the tallest woman in the room. It took a long time to build self-confidence, but you were happy with where you currently were in your life. With a deep breath to calm your excitement, you headed into the lobby where Jungkook was already waiting for you. He looked up from his phone and immediately spotted you entering the building. His eyes lingered on your legs covered in sheer black tights before meeting your eyes with his own dark orbs. You felt butterflies at the instant your gazes locked and held for a few seconds. You decided to breakaway first, looking down with a small smile and waving.

“Hey, Jungkook. You ready to study?” Jungkook simpered as he looked down towards his feet with his hands in his pockets.

“Yeah I am, but it looks like you aren’t. Where’s your book bag and why are you dressed like that?” He gestured towards your subtle cleavage. You crossed your arms and gaped at him, confused as to why he was questioning you instead of complimenting you. Jungkook watched your mouth open and close before he chuckled and began heading towards his room. Luckily his room was on the first floor so there wouldn’t be an awkward elevator ride. As you walked behind him you pressed your cold hands onto your hot blushing cheeks wondering if you misread this whole situation. “Thanks for agreeing to come to the dorms this time. This was the only time I was free to get tutored, but I couldn’t leave the dorms tonight. I hope it didn’t make you uncomfortable.” His words made you all the more confused. Surely he didn’t feel the need to pretend this was anything other than a hookup, especially since he had already gotten you to come without much of a chase? You didn’t understand what he meant until he unlocked the door to his suite and a small child bombarded his legs, clinging on for dear life.

“Kookie! Kookie! You took forever!” Jungkook smiled and patted the child’s head before picking him up so you could enter into the suite.

“I was only gone a few minutes! Anyways, what do you say to a pretty lady?” Jungkook laughed as the small boy buried his head into the crook of his neck with shyness.

“…Hewwo…” You smiled at the child and greeted him back before looking up at Jungkook in utter confusion.

“I’m babysitting for my parents tonight while they celebrate their 20th anniversary. This is my little brother, Sammy. He’s a real good kid and agreed to quietly color in his coloring book while I study, right bud?” The young boy nodded without looking up at him, clearly displeased to have a stranger take his big brother’s attention away. You smiled sweetly at Jungkook to show him everything was okay with you. It was only after he placed his brother on the floor in front of his crayons that crippling embarrassment settled red and hot behind your face and prickled at your scalp. You had misread the situation after all, and even worse, assumed Jungkook was just some fuck boy looking to fake being serious about his studies in order to fuck tutor girls. He wouldn’t have been the first one you ran into, but it was now clear that you shouldn’t have lumped him into the same category. Swallowing your pride and shame, you placed your jacket on the back of his chair and pulled another one up to the desk to start the session. For about an hour, you helped Jungkook finalize his book report and put the finishing touches on his powerpoint presentation about his report. Once you both looked out of the window and saw how late it was getting, you decided to wrap things up. Turning to Sammy who was busy passionately coloring an orange elephant, you smiled and squatted near the page.

“Ready to spend some time with Kookie, Sammy? You looked up at Jungkook and winked, appreciating the way that the nickname coming from you flustered Jungkook. The young boy looked up from his art and nodded.

“Bye-bye! Um…”

“(Y/N), how do you do.” You talked in a funny voice that made Sammy giggle. Standing up and stretching your arms once more, you looked towards Jungkook who held your jacket for you to take. “Thanks. So…good luck with your presentation.” You kicked yourself at the lame way you chose to say goodbye but decided it was best to cut your losses and avoid further embarrassment.

“Thanks, I’ll walk you out.” Both of you headed out into the hallway and walked slowly towards the lobby in silence. After a few long moments, Jungkook finally broke the quiet, “So about that date…. What do you say?” You turned to him in disbelief before looking back down at your shoes. You had thought when he asked you on a date back at the shop that it was his way of getting you into bed. Once again you felt shame for being such a pessimistic pervert.

“I didn’t know you were serious about that.” You admitted.

“Yeah, I figured with the way you showed up to our study session.” Jungkook laughed as he playfully pulled on the hem of your dress so that it slapped your thigh when he let go. You pouted and stared straight ahead, unable to defend yourself. “Don’t get me wrong, I’d have loved to show you a good time tonight, but that’s not really my style. Especially with intellectual women. I want to show you a different kind of good time, at least at first. You turned toward his face in time to catch him biting his bottom lip. It was as if his mouth had a direct connection to your lower abdomen, feeling that magnetic pull between you two that you couldn’t shake. You woke up to the thin rays of sunlight peering through the drawn blinds of your bedroom window. You awoke a few hours later, well into the afternoon in the same position you had fallen asleep in only this time, Jennie’s snoring was loud enough to quake the glass of water on your nightstand. Your raspy chuckle was barely audible as you stared at her mouth that hung open while she violently slept. Careful so as not to wake her, you gingerly slid your arm out of her grasp and pulled the covers off of your bodies since the heat was making you a little sweaty. Your eyes bulged while taking in the view south of the bed. Jennie had taken her pants off before climbing into bed and was only sporting a bright red G-string. You forced yourself to look anywhere other than her perfect bottom until your heart stopped beating as fast as it was. What the hell, Jennie? You cursed yourself for giving her a key to your apartment after her initial forced entry. “Yeah, sorry I totally forgot to update you. I didn’t end up fucking that guy. Instead, he asked me out on a date! I’m actually excited to go, I feel like such a freshman.” Your giddy mood seemed to frustrate Jennie even more. She quietly got out of bed, pulled her pants on, grabbed her purse from your nightstand and left your apartment.

“Jennie?!” You called after her but the only thing you got in response was your door slamming loudly. You sucked your teeth and continued washing your face. You didn’t know why she was in such a bad mood. Sure, you didn’t tell her about how things progressed with Jungkook but it wasn’t exactly her business. This is why I haven’t dated any girls on campus recently, girls can be so moody sometimes. You took a deep breath and headed into your room to get changed, determined not to let Jennie’s childishness ruin your day.

Your date with Jungkook had been going well so far. He picked you up from your apartment 5 minutes early on foot. You two walked to the shuttle stop in silence since there really wasn’t much to talk about. You two had only just met and didn’t know much about each other or shared any experiences yet. You hated first dates for this reason, preferring instead to just hook up without the need to feign a relationship or only date someone you’re already friends with. You had gotten good at small talk since working at the suit shop had you conversing with all kinds of people regularly. But it still wasn’t thrilling nor any less awkward. Once you both had exhausted all the commonplace questions like “How was your day” and “What’s your favorite color”, you both sat on the shuttle on the way to the campus’ cinema in silence. Why had you agreed to this? You were really off your game at this point in time. You looked over at Jungkook and noticed him staring off into the distance looking quite alarmed. His pensive face made you giggle which snapped him out of his reverie.

“What?” He looked at you with a half-smile confused.

“Your face…you looked so…shook!” You let out in between laughs. His cheeks became tinted pink with an exasperated gasp.

“Not you too! My teammates make fun of me for it all the time! Ugh!” Jungkook complained with exaggerated exclamation. His eyes sparkled with amusement as he began tickling your sides for not taking him seriously. The guffaw that followed was obnoxious enough to catch the attention of surrounding students riding the shuttle. It was at that moment that Jungkook realized how ticklish you were, to his elation and your immediate embarrassment. You both settled into your seats immediately after meeting the eyes of annoyed riders but couldn’t contain your giggles and light shoving for the rest of the ride. Eventually, after sufficient physical contact, you two ended up walking off of the shuttle holding hands.

Jungkook’s lips ravaged your neck as you struggled to open the door to your apartment, fumbling your key on the lock. You eventually did open it and the door slammed backward into the adjacent wall as Jungkook reached your lips and leaned into you, holding you by the hips. Your hunger to taste him had been contagious as you had taken the opportunity that the light ‘goodnight’ peck he gave you on the lips in front of your apartment presented to start a make-out session. There was no way you would let it end that way after wanting him the entire date. He had been a perfect gentleman, waiting in line to get you a bunch of snacks at the concession stand while you held your seats, draping his jacket over your shoulders once the chill of the night set in, and bringing you all the way to your apartment even though it was past the junior dorms. And now, as he tugged on your bottom lip with his teeth while his hands held both sides of your face in the middle of your apartment, you were absolutely sure you wanted to go all the way with Jeon Jungkook. You slowly lead Jungkook to your bedroom without detaching your lips. Once his legs made contact with your bed you pushed him back onto it and climbed on top of him. You began kissing down his neck as your arms made a cage around his head. With his eyes closed and sporting a cocky smile, “Woah there (Y/N), aren’t we taking things a bit too fast?” A throaty chuckle escaped his lips as you reached his Adam's apple.

“Shut up, Jeon.” You moved back up to his lips and stuck your tongue into his mouth which he welcomed, swirling his tongue around yours in equal fervor. His fingers slid up into your hair and tightened their grip on your strands, pulling lightly but firmly so that your head moved backward, giving him access to your neck. As he sucked on your neck, you could feel a bulge forming in his pants. You decided to rub your clothed mound on his growing bulge while he kissed behind your ear.

“Don’t do that.” Jungkook let out a breathy whisper into your ear which made tingles run down your spine and had you heavily convulsing. “Ummm…did I do something wrong?” You asked as you sat up to look at him properly. Jungkook smiled and walked back over to the bed, bending over to place a brief kiss on your pink lips.

“Of course not, just practicing a little restraint. I want to do things right.” He smiled with crescent moon eyes before turning and exiting your apartment.

You let out an exasperated sigh and sagged back onto the bed with one arm covering your eyes in frustration. Suddenly you heard something shift in your room which made you sit back up in alarm.

“Jungkook?” You searched your room for the source of the noise before your eyes locked with another pair of eyes peering through the slits of your closet door. You froze in utter fear as you realized someone was in your closet. Suddenly, the door opened and you screamed, chucking a pillow at the intruder because it was the closest thing to you. Jennie caught the pillow and held it to her chest, watching you warily.

“Hey (Y/N)…”

“Jennie!?”

“I can explain.”

“YOU PERVERT!!!!!!”

I’ll begin this long digest with news of ygarshy’s recent involvements! Because he has been dipping his toes into a few pools of waters and his bass is *chef’s kiss* precious.

It’s been disclosed that he played for the song ‘Shadow Tag’ on Ken Kamikita’s new album! Kamikita is a singer songwriter, also once known as KK, who belches out vivid vocals from his diaphragm while the substructure of skilled technique is there as instrumentals, holding it together sturdy. His songs are very thought-provoking alone, yet music isn’t his only reign as he writes scripts for his shows, he puts careful consideration into his visuals: and abracadabra! ygarshy is continuing to be supporting Wasureranne yo with concerts for the summer.Concurrent reports consist of ygarshy smiling, poker facing to hide his smile, yet his smile seeping out because of Shibata’s noble passion for music. Shibata will do risqué shouts or gatling release the word "sex" out of his mouth, when which yg will subtly sip his water in a means to dodge, or just knifesharp glare at him. June 8th was the Kankaku Pierrot x Hitorie concert, which was originally meant to be a joint show for their tour, yet was now turned into a jamboree of respects and thunder... Rie themselves were unable to attend yet Kan-ero nevertheless performed a cover of Ao, Polaris, and clenched a spiritual presence...! The cover of Ao is a tear trenchcoat I'm a trench of water... Kan-ero so good...

I was finally able to tell Shinoda-san that “These lyrics are way too long.”. For the sake of today I had to spend the whole week sleeping on the couch, as my bed is practically buried by all the alphabet He wrote, yet still I simply want to thank him for leaving us with so many words. They’re really all so cool. I’m sorry for being unable to sing them well. Let’s meet up again soon. Is Tanktop Shoutai's new video out yet They're a posse of blurred out faces with burlesque bases. Their current series is one where they dress up as Yugioh characters, roleplay them with accurate voices and cult-like enthusiasm, before the instigation of the series’ famous ~Shadow Games~ together. Which are all uhh, epic card games, yeah, like tabletop Jenga or or Mariomaker or electric Russian roulette, pick them up like they’re Kuribos. It’s a riot.

I’m sure I’ve said this for the umpteenth time now but, my favorite album from syrup16g is “delayed" syrup16g are an indie band who began in 1993 and keep resurging again to pop off. With performances in Budoukan and high Oricon points on their back. This pivotal album of theres is mellow with whimpering instruments and ephemeral sounding visuals and it's really nice, thank you SND.

Media outlets have been making misleading headlines like “A manga opposing the legalization of euthanasia”, and I bet there’s a lot of people are blindly dissing Death Harassment now Death Harassment is a comic written by Yoshida Yori, challenging the problems which could come with euthanasia, and a society which might pressure departure unto the unwilling. Euthanasia has been becoming a uproarious subject in Japan, ever since a woman fled to Sweden because she suffered brain diseases, and wanted to die while still preserving her sanity and dignity. I saw Tokyo Syoki Syodo in concert for my first time today. It was the best. I seriously thought I was gonna burst into tears. It might be a long time since I was last this excited to see a band live - it's been a long time since I even saw a concert live but still,,, I was surprised by how much of the lyrics to Saisei Button I subconsciously remembered. It just shows that Tokyo Syoki Syodo's songs are that good. They are a group who indulge in the typicality of cutesy culture, instagram filters, sparkling make-up, and all while flexing the power to whack you with whamming hard rock. He mentioned them again in his June 9th twitcast also, calling them natural and epiphanic to how bands can just be just as they are. I have no doubts that this is my top-played song these past few months. This is my anthem. -Saisei Rock, their most recent music video, check it out! I don’t even know how many years I’ve lived at this point but it’s not commonplace to find a song this great.

This example will only be understood by super like-minded folk, but I haven’t felt this way since I got obsessed with Sakasama Cider.

Shinoda on the July 9th live said not verbatim “When I heard Sakasama Cider and ‘Sad Delay-chan’’ live, I was amazed by Shimoyaka that he can actually make good songs. Justice doesn’t have to be one-sided~ Gucha Gucha’s are unrefined and shitty and helpless, but then they bounce back up with a sudden good song and it’s irresistible. What an article. Don’t be releasing things like this into the world. Do they have no dignity, mishandling words while trying to write about the subject of words. Emo, in terms of usage and genre, has especially been through a lot of change. But upholding only the era you lived in and then proceeding to feel nostalgia and begrudging the next generation for being different is amazing in itself, not to mention their absolute subjectivity combined with presumptuous usage of “Us”.

The picture shown is SND’s face was drawn in the background of Meshi ni Shimashou(Let’s have some food!), a manga by Kobayashi Doom. It’s a story which digs into the lives of a a manga artist and her assistant, who bask in the dying embryos of production and then cook meals with crazy twists or gimmicks to restore their “MP”. There’s an official sneak-peak preview of it here! It’s only available in JP though… If you like the look of it please feel free to yell at your local manga provider to officially translate it, Kobayashi Doom is someone SND is so undeniably influenced by. Especially their series Negi nee-san. A webcomic about a surreal girl drowned in surreal antics. It’s usually rooted in nonsense and that’s the grandest appeal. The visuals consist of copy-pasted collages, intricate professional art dynamics, cute girls, to stoic jokes such as “’seven eleven is an integer so seven & I is a complex number” and mostly references to mathematics or science or Jojo. The most parroted one is “Yes” “Not yes”. Also worthy of mention is that things resembling Negi-neesan’s various nameless beasts will show up as backdrop etc. in SND’s manga Chikyuu Monogatari. And most importantly here, there’s even a comic about Shinoda on that link, with the Let’s Meal characters! It reads: Madare ”Who's that?" Omega "From the band 'Hitorie',His name is Shinoda and he seems to be a zealous fan of mine, (sign reads: zealous whatever food hall) He told me he wants me to experience his recent works so he sent me the mp3"Madare “Ooh Isn’t Hitorie that [insert amazing praise here]“. “There have been some increasingly controversial topics in the news,” began Andy, in the milionth meeting they were holding that week, “and I know that not everyone here is in agreement with regard to personal beliefs. Though there is some merit to discussing these topics, I would encourage you to do so outside of work.

“So please,” he continued, “for the love of the old gods and the new, stop arguing about the last episode of Game of Thrones.”

“It was kind of bullshit though, right?” asked Jake, to murmurs of approval.

“I haven’t watched it yet,” complained Kevin.

“Spoiler,” said Jake, “it sucked.”

“Jake, please.”

“There was a shocking twist about Tyrion being the Night King.”

“Kevin, Jake may or may not be messing with you.”

“I did think the part where Eddard rose from the dead was a little out of left field, though.”

“Amy, please proceed with your presentation.”

Amy was standing in front of their conference room’s projector. Her long, dark brown hair was tied into a bun, and her usual Davis badminton jacket was replaced by a white button-up.

“Thanks Andy,” she said, relieved that the meeting was back under control, “as I was saying, this project is worth roughly 25.6 million dollars, collectively. As is the usual case, the largest defense contractors are going to take the majority of business.

“But this is where things get interesting. I’m going to have to be intentionally vague about the next portion of this, since we’re in a nonclassified setting, but we have certain...capabilities...that even some of the largest corporations don’t. Thanks to some wise decisions we made early last year with regard to our research allocations, we are actually the first team we know of that can use...”

Her voice trailed. “Well, that’s also classified. But the figures aren’t. Look at this.” The slide changed. “We are poised to become the government’s preferred vendor for the entire sensor, and all we have to do is give them a taste. They expect delivery within three weeks. For this to work, all teams have to collaborate perfectly.”

“It’s really important that we execute this now,” agreed Andy, “that means it’s really, vitally important that we not let our meetings diverge into arguments about petty bullshit.

“Kevin, we’d like a status report from you. What’s the important software issue you said you wanted everyone to know about?”

“I know we were told not to compile on the hardware,” began Kevin, “but unfortunately, with our system, it’s unavoidable. The time stamps are messed up, so doing basic things like compilation is surprisingly difficult.”

“Why not code it in Python?” suggested Jake. “that way you won’t need to compile it.”

“Wow,” said Dan, with mock amazement, “switch programming languages. Brilliant. This is the kind of empty-headed bullshit that only a hardware engineer would come up with.”

“Right,” Jake retorted, “because messed up time stamps is a hardware issue. Do you guys also give your system administrators mops, then give your janitors root access?”

“Switching to python actually isn’t a bad idea,” said Ryan, “but there’s a much more obvious solution to this problem. You can-”

“Hang on,” interrupted Dan, “care to repeat that comment about root access?”

“You guys don’t understand separation of duty,” said Jake.

“You guys don’t understand fuck about fuck,” said Dan.

The next half hour went about as productively as that conversation.

Saturday. It was a surprisingly clear morning, for San Francisco, and the sun was just starting to rise. Because it was San Francisco, though, the morning was ice cold.

Nora made her way up the steep trail of Mt. Davidson. Kevin said he knew every trail and angle at this place, and she believed him. The park was tiny. She reached the peak with ease. She glanced in the direction of the sun, then turned away to look at downtown in the distance. She could see the bay, and Castro, and a bunch of major downtown buildings until her view reached Sutro Mountain.

She pulled out her cell phone. “This is boring,” she told Kevin through the speaker.

“Did you know it’s the tallest hill in all of San Francisco?”

“Highest of the seven hills?”

“Sure.”

“What, because of the giant cross?”

“I admit that the giant cross is cheating, but the point still stands.”

“Not sure what the big deal is, to be honest. I’ve had a more fun time at Bernal Heights, and that place has some pretty good coffee.”

“Giant blue building.”

“What?”

“Find the spot where Balboa is, look a bit to the left, and you’ll see that giant blue building. It’s a water tower. We used to sneak up there, forever ago, when we were young.”

“Okay...”

“I used to love this city. It’s not the same now. Whenever I came back it was never the same, always a little different. So I started to come home every month, then every other month. The last time we spoke, it was my first time back in almost a year.”

“Well, what’s changed?”

“It’s just different.”

Nora looked at the tower, then at Kevin’s high school, then at the water again. From a distance, it was all tiny. Like none of it mattered.

“You used to love this city,” asked Nora, “and now you don’t because it’s changed?”

“Exactly. You took the words right out of my mouth.”

“So you believe that the city you once loved is gone. I believe that the city you loved never existed.”

“That’s morbid.”

“Seriously, how much of it had you really seen?”

Nora looked again at the view. “Oh wait, technically you’ve seen quite a bit of it.”

Sunday. Kevin was at a church. Again.

After another sermon, a middle-aged person named Leo (whom he had met a couple of weeks ago) sought him out.

“Hey Kevin,” he said, “do you know a lot about social media?”

The question hit him with surprise. Kevin had once been obsessed with social media.

“I know a little bit,” said Kevin, “why do you ask?”

“I’d like to give our church more of an online presence, but it’s all new to me. What do you know about Facebook groups?”

“The whole thing is very calculated. The emojis you use, whether you use GIFs, whether you use tags...all of these are taken into consideration when considering your post placement.”

“That’s all fine and good,” said Leo, “but you don’t sound super enthusiastic right now about Facebook.”

“Have you heard of Life Church?”

“No.”

“It’s a nice resource, it’s an online church, but it’s just a little bit too good. It’s hard to describe. It’s ridiculously high quality video, full Facebook integration, professional band. You can view the likes and comments in real time.”

“What’s wrong with that?”

“It’s weird. All of this is weird to me for some reason. Doing that kind of thing for a church? I prefer sites like Medium. I can harvest so much sweet, sweet data.”

“Are you okay? You just turned red.”

“You know, I get crazy about this a lot. I used to be a normal guy. A couple likes here, a couple likes there. I started to find forums where I could get 100 likes a post, consistently, and I started to get a presence. Click, like, share. Click, like, share. It’s no way to live, man. Every second a feeling of wanting judgment, every act of communication a desperate plea to please the algorithm.

“But this one time, this one night I’ll never forget, I put up an article that went #trending. It got 36,000 Facebook shares. Pretty okay, sure, but then I found the real analytics. 3 million hits. 3 million people read it, all around the world.”

For a little while, Leo just stood there. Finally, he spoke again.

“Kevin, I just want to share some videos.”

“Oh, okay. Have you considered YouTube?”

“What’s that?”

Kevin walked back to his apartment after lunch. Part of him wished he could be as enthusiastic about church as he was about technology, but there was still something he couldn’t get over. It was a belief that was fundamental to him for as long as he remembered. It was a belief that went against everything he had read in every book of the bible.

Kevin didn’t think it mattered what people believed. All that mattered to him was what people did.

Some Christians donated to the poor, built schools, saved lives. Some atheists donated to the poor, built schools, saved lives. Both Christians and non-Christian people had done great things, and horrible things, but so had Muslims. And Hindu people. And scientologists, and probably a million other religions. But no one thought it was okay to believe that your beliefs didn’t matter.

Kevin wasn’t sure if he believed in everything or nothing. He figured it was impossible to believe in nothing, because that would mean that he still believed in something.

Monday. 8PM. Dan was one of the only people in.

It was a long meeting, followed by a crucial lunch meeting, followed by coding, followed by another meeting. These past few days had been tough on everyone, but Dan sometimes wished he could just hole up, not talk to anyone, and code.

He finally had a few hours to himself. This was when he felt most productive.

2, he thought. 2, 4, 8, 16…

Dan’s weapon of choice had always been C++. He knew bitwidths, 56-megabyte proprietary structs, obscure abbreviations that only meant anything to him, Andy, and the Department of Defense. He knew 18 different ways to bind to a socket. He knew 19 different ways to accidentally bind to the socket incorrectly, which is why he was careful who he hired.

He looked at his code. 100 lines. 18 minutes. It compiled, implemented a client/server, verified that both sides were properly using the data. Not bad. He added error handling, comments, varied conditions. He updated his code like a skilled writer polishing his prose, and like a skilled writer he knew how important every individual unit was. He knew how significant the difference was between --i and i--. He knew the implications of using [] on a vector instead of .at()

Having accomplished his main goal, he decided to spend a few minutes making fun of other people on Github issues.

He saw one branch of code where someone failed, failed again, then tried changing all the include statements from using “” to using <>. Dan laughed.

He saw one branch of code where someone tried to log everything as fatal. This was surprisingly common, especially for people too dumb to figure out how to set log level. Dan laughed.

Then Dan saw a branch made by one of his best friends.

Ex-friends. No one ever figured it out. Things were mysterious, but for reasons he never understood this friend’s family chose not to mention their company (or Dan) once. But how did it happen? This was also mysterious. Dan compiled a list of all the things he had learned after college, and it was long, but one item stood out:

When an obituary omits cause of death, that usually means it’s suicide.

What appalled Dan wasn’t the act itself, but the sheer indifference that their company displayed. They just didn’t care. His cubicle was replaced by an intern’s, then another intern’s. That’s more or less how he felt the company regarded this death. It was a name tag change, a commented out line in payroll. It frustrated Dan to no end, the sheer meaningless and triviality of the ordeal.

Silently, when he was sure no one was there to hear, Dan wept.

He cried to a timer. When five minutes passed, he got back on track with coding.

A/N: Welcome to the final part of Coffee Shop! This idea started during my gap year in Australia and I’m so happy how this all turned out! On the flight to London, you mostly tried to sleep but you were just way too excited to see Tom again. Harrison had told you about every encounter with his best friend, Tom was always in a bad mood. According to Haz, he was always sad and only left his house to get food or walk his dog.

The day before going to the UK you went to his Instagram page for the first time. There were a lot of photos of his friends and him but also a few of him at movie sets or with other famous people. For the first time, you felt so proud that he had achieved all his dream and he was able to do what he loves.

You also spent most of the night watching a few movies with him, including the Heart Of The Sea and The Impossible. He had achieved so much in his young years and the way for him was only up.

The last photo he had posted was a picture of him in front of Times Square one month ago. His eyes were not fixated on the camera but a bit to the left and he had a huge smile on his face. The photo seemed familiar to you and then you realised that you had been there while this photo was taken.

It had been a sunny day out and Tom insisted that you should go sightseeing with Haz and him. You walked around Manhattan all day and when it got dark, you walked to the Times Square. It was as bright as day and Tom just put his hand into Haz’ hands, urging him to take a few photos.

He took your hands and you did a lot of cute photos and also a few of only Tom. But instead of looking into the camera, Tom couldn’t stop looking at you. And that was exactly the photo that was right in front of you. He wrote in the caption: The city can never shine as bright as you. x

Your heart was beating faster and all you wanted was to wrap your arms around him. Since this post, it was silent on all of his social media and you felt guilty for stealing his happiness. But you were on your way to fix that. There were a few hours left so you listened to music and went over and over the plan you had made with Harrison. He would pick you up at the airport and since you arrived late at night, you would sleep at Harrisons’ flat for the night.

For the next day, he had asked Tom to go out to get some coffee to catch up. Tom agreed to meet up with his best friend because he was way to nice to say no.

But instead of meeting up with Harrison, you would wait in the coffee shop for him, right where it all started.

You were nervous about how he would react but Haz was positive that he would be unbelievably happy to see you. So here you sat, anxiously waiting to win the love of your life back.

The sun was slowly setting outside of your window, showing you that it was not very long till the landing. For you, it was the first time outside of the US so you were pretty excited to see this new place. When Tom used to talk about his home, it always sounded wonderful. The people were different, more polite, just like Tom and his family. When it all worked out, you were going to meet them in person and you were not so sure about this. You were always afraid of making a bad first impression that when you talked to them via Skype, they were always so nice to you, so you shouldn’t worry about that.

The first thing to worry about was Tom. You really hoped that he still loved you and wanted you.

An hour later, you finally landed at Heathrow and you were one of the first to get out of the plane.

Your bag was one of the firsts to arrive and you hurried to the exit. Harrison was already waiting for you and when he saw you, a big grin wandered on his face.

„Hey Y/N, I’m so glad that you are here!“ He hugged you close and you closed your eyes happily. You had to admit that you had really missed him and his presence around you. You had missed his smell and that he always seemed to be in a good mood.

„Hey Haz.“ When you let go, you smiled up at the tall boy. Your friend returned your smile.

„Come on, let’s get you out of here, you have a big day tomorrow.“

And with that, the both of you walked towards the taxis because Haz didn’t own a car. It took only half an hour to drive to Harrisons’ flat. On the way, the both of you caught up and told each other what had been going on for the last two weeks. The Spider-Man Movie was wrapped and Tom had now two months off before he had a new project to film. And of course, Harrison told you about how Tom was acting.

„You know that Tom is a very happy and positive guy and he has been like that since I’ve known him. But for the last two weeks, he’s a completely different person. He just sits at home and doesn’t go to his family house, and he used to go there every day to hang out with all of them. He’s so lost without you, Y/N, please get him out of his mystery.“

You smiled.

„I will, I promise.“

The taxi finally stopped in front of the apartment complex Haz lived in. You stepped out in the fresh summer air and follower Harrison to the elevator. His apartment was small and very boyish but you were too tired to look around any further. It was 11 pm but you felt it was 5 am. Maybe because you hadn’t slept last night. Haz had a small guest room and you immediately fell on the bed and closed your eyes before drifting off into a deep sleep.

„Y/N?? Y/N!!“ You woke up because of Harrisons’ hysteric voice. „Hm?“ You slowly opened your eyes to look up to your friend. „You have to get up, it’s already half past ten!“ You were going to meet up with Tom at 12 but you didn’t want to look like a complete mess in front of him.

So you got up and while Haz prepared breakfast, you put on a bit of make-up and slipped black jeans and a white shirt on.

You followed the smell of bacon to the kitchen to the kitchen where Harrison was standing at the stove.

„Are you nervous?“ Harrison smiled at you. „Yes, absolutely. What if he doesn’t want me anymore?“ Haz shook his head while he put the made breakfast on two plates and walked to the kitchen table.

„Are you kidding me Y/N? You’re the only one he wants in this world, maybe forever. He needs you.“ And with those reassuring words from your friend, you started to eat.

You could only eat half of your food because your stomach was just too full of excitement for what was about to come.

At 11:30 you put your dishes away and packed all the stuff you needed for the day in your small backpack. Haz was already waiting for you at the door with a big grin on his face. He was so happy that soon, everything would go back to normal and his best friend would be happy again and not only a shell of himself.

The two of you left the apartment and walked to the coffee shop around the corner. You had talked about the plan over and over again so everything should go smoothly.

„Hey, I got a message from Tom that he’s on his way now so he should be here in around ten minutes. Realising that you were going to see Tom in ten minutes, made you even more nervous. Haz said goodbye and told you to text him if you needed anything, including your luggage that was still at his apartment.

And then you were all alone. Slowly you opened the door of the shop and entered the small room. There were only a few customers sitting around the tables but Tom was not one of them, just like you had predicted. Without ordering a coffee you sat down at one of the tables where you had a good view of the door. You put on the hood of your sweater so he wouldn’t recognise you right away. And then you waited. You bit your fingers nervously because what if he changed his mind and went back home?

But your doubts vanished when a familiar figure entered the shop. Just by looking at him, the butterflies in your stomach went crazy. You had made the right decision.

Tom didn’t look good. He didn’t make any effort with his appearance: His curly hair was hidden under one of his many caps and he only put on a plaid shirt and his sweatpants. His eyes were hidden behind his sunglasses but you could still see the bags under his eyes.

He looked around in search of his best friend but couldn’t find him anywhere. He shrugged his shoulders and walked to the counter to order something.

And this was your cue: You slowly stood up and walked behind Tom. He was waiting in the queue and you could see from behind that he was texting Harrison, asking him where he’s at.

You took your courage in both hands, put your hood down and tapped the British boy on his shoulder. He slowly turned around and when he saw you, you could see through the sunglasses how his eyes widened.

„Y/N?? W - wha…?“ But you interrupted him because it was your turn to make everything right.

„I think it’s time that I repay you for that coffee.“

The smile you had missed so much formed on his face and he fidgeted with his fingers, not knowing what to do. „Come here!“ You couldn’t hold it any longer and opened your arms for him. Tom followed your invitation and hugged you close to him. He snuggled his head in your neck and you could feel his hot tears on your collarbone. You were also sobbing into his soft shirt because finally, you had your other half back.

„I - I missed you so much.“ Tom sobbed into your neck. Slowly he let go but took your hands in his. „Why are you here, Y/N?“ His voice trembled but his smile was so huge as he had won the lottery.

You looked at the ground, knowing that it was the right thing to do.

„I’m here to tell you that I love you. And this love is so big that I understand why you didn’t tell me about your acting career and I will look forward because I just can’t let you go, I need to keep you. Please, will you take me back? I’m nothing without you.“

Tom looked at you for a second, stepped forward and pressed his lips to yours.

I think this is a Yes.

You moaned into his mouth and put your hands on his neck, tugging him closer. Both of you laughed into the kiss, happy to finally have each other again. From now on, there was nothing stopping you two. When Tom stepped back, there was a smirk on his face.

„Now what about that coffee you owe me?“

Tom and you mostly spent the day catching up and being very, very touchy. Tom kissed you every chance he got and hugged you all the time, as close as he could. You were so happy, finally, you were whole again. Your shyness had disappeared and back was the confident Y/N Tom loved so much.

You told Tom about the plan Harrison and you made and he was so happy that you made the decision to go back to him.

When it got dark, Tom and you walked hand in hand to Haz’ apartment. You picked up your bags walked to Toms’ flat.

It was on the ground floor and was a bit bigger than Harrisons’ space. Tom took your bags and brought them into his bedroom while you explored the flat. His clothes were lying everywhere on the floor and the kitchen was full of unwashed dishes. His home had suffered under his pain; you felt responsible so you started cleaning up. Tom came into the kitchen a few minutes later.

„Hey, stop tidying up, I messed this place up.“ When he looked into your eyes, you were crying. Tom hugged you instantly.

„Baby, what’s wrong?“ You sobbed into his shirt. „I feel responsible for all this pain you were feeling... I’m so sorry that I put you into this misery and it took me so long to realise that I need you.“ Tom took your head in his hands.

„Hey, look at me, nothing of this is your fault, it’s mine. I love you so much that I always wanted to put you first. I also put you in front of my career and lied to you about it because I thought that I was protecting you, even when I know that you can protect yourself. And I’m so happy that you took me back and let’s look into the future and not in the past, and that’s what matters right?“

You looked up to him through the tears and smiled. This boy was way too good for you but you were not going to let him go again as long as he wanted you.

Tom softly kissed your forehead.

„I love you so much. Don’t think about things that don’t matter anymore and enjoy the time you have here with me. By the way, how long will you stay here with me?“

You gave him a cute smile that made him feel all giddy inside and his heart race.

„As long as you want me.“

5 Success Tips from an Experienced Exchange Student

My decision to leave the country and learn abroad was by far the most rewarding decision I have ever made in my life. In 2013, I joined the Rotary Youth Exchange program at age 17 and went through the interview process. After 6 months of excruciating waiting, I got my acceptance letter. I started planning that day and then jumped on a plane to Colombia three months later. I chose to go to Colombia because I wanted to learn Spanish. The only Spanish I knew before I left the USA was “hola” and “necesito el baño” (hello and I need the bathroom). These were necessary phrases, but my goal was to be fluent. I also chose Colombia because I wanted to learn to dance, and Latin American is the place to learn. Over the next 11 months I spent in Colombia, I experienced something new every day. I went to the rainforest, where I held a sloth and saw a pink dolphin (I didn’t even know pink dolphins existed before this trip!), and I learned about Latin culture first hand. I came back to the USA a year later fluent in Spanish. I would never have gained these experience without leaving the country. I highly recommend that you make the same decision and go study abroad. If this is something you are interested in doing, I have a few tips to help you have the best experience you can have abroad.

Tip #1: Plan ahead

When I realized that I wanted to study abroad, I researched for hours. I went online and found all of the programs that were available for me. I expressed interest about leaving the country to my mom, and she helped me on my journey. My mom had a connection within the Rotary community, which helped me a lot. The connection happened to be one of my childhood friends. Her name is Erin, and when I talked with her, she had just returned from a year in Japan with Rotary Youth Exchange. She told me all her stories, which only made me want to leave the country faster. I asked her about the interview process, and she helped me get in contact with people in my community that could help me. If you want to study abroad, express interest. You need to talk to people within your community. I promise you there is a way to get abroad.

Tip #2: Be determined

At times, studying abroad feels impossible. There will be obstacles like the time commitment, finances, significant others, family, friends, jobs, and many personal battles that will present themselves. I struggled a lot with losing friends. My two best friends from high school got really angry when I told them I was leaving for a year. They were not supportive. One of them completely stopped talking to me after 12 years of friendship. I was extremely hurt by their actions, but it allowed me to discover who my true friends were, and it showed me that high school wasn’t the place for me. My relationship with my mom also struggled during the time before I left for Colombia. We were constantly fighting. She told me that I was procrastinating my responsibilities and that I was not ready to leave. In the end, we forgave each other, but we were not friends for a long while. The time commitment obstacle was not a huge issue for me because I graduated high school early and did not need any credits to get my GED while I was abroad. I, however, know that the time commitment can be very dauting to my peers and that taking a gap between semesters or even a gap year after college doesn’t seem possible. If you can make it happen, I promise it will be one of the best experience you have ever had. It will also look good on any resume. Being worldly makes you stand out. It also helps make connections with people and is a great conversation starter. Finances are the next obstacle for most college students. Studying abroad is expensive as all get out. Between the flights and the credits you are getting abroad it can be $25,000. This is ridiculous! I have found ways around the crazy amount of money. There are lots of great scholarships available for students that want to study abroad and there are great programs that are more affordable. My program that I went to Colombia with only cost $5,000 for the full year. Do not let the obstacles stop you from wanting to study abroad! You just need to have determination and it will all be worth it.

Tip #3: Pack insanely light

I know I talked about packing light in one of my earlier blogs, but studying abroad is completely different. When you are study abroad, there will be opportunities to buy clothing and souvenirs around every corner. If you start off your journey with a full bag, you will run into issues. Do not pack toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, lotion, or body wash. You can always buy toiletries abroad. They will just weight down your bag. Do not bring a lot of clothing unless you are planning on leaving some of it behind when you return. Bring your favorite clothing and shoes, but leave the rest behind.

Tip #4: Say yes to everything as long as it is safe

When you arrive abroad, everyone will want to talk to you. You will have the opportunity to make a lot of friends and to get a good understanding of the culture. You will get a lot of invitations to hang out. After the first few weeks, however, the newness of your presence will die down. Less people will invite you over. This is why you need to say yes to everything right away. People will get to know you early on in your exchange year and keep inviting you out. The experience abroad is only as good as you make it. If you say no to new experiences, your time abroad will be boring and hard. You need to fill your days with activities or else you will miss home. Missing home is normal for any exchange student, but you should not be missing it every day. I missed my home a lot during my year abroad. I struggled the most around Christmas time. In Colombia, almost everyone is catholic and almost everyone likes to party. The Christmas season starts December 1 and doesn’t stop till the beginning of the next year. During December, I think I went to 5 parties in one week where I stayed up till 5am dancing. It was fun, but exhausting. By the end of the month, I was so tired of the constant noise of the city that I just broke down crying. Try to say yes to everything, but be ok with saying no. You need to know your limits.

Tip #5: Stay in touch with your host family and friends after your time abroad

Writing this blog post reminded me that I have not sent my host family a message in a while (I am sending one right now), but I recommend that you keep in touch with the friends you make abroad. Keeping these connections will allow you to always have a place to return to if you ever want to go back. This past winter, I returned to Colombia for the first time in three years. I spend two and a half weeks in my old host family’s home. They fed me and treated me like family again. I got very lucky with the people I was placed with. They were so kind and loving. I never felt out of place. Although I got lucky with my host family, I have heard horror stories of exchange students having terrible families. For instance, my good friend Tom, who studied abroad in Colombia when I did, was placed with a family that was homophobic. Tom was gay and felt extremely scared. His family was unaware of his orientation, but continuously made derogative comments towards the gay community. He felt like he had to hide his true self and that he would be sent home if they ever found out. His experiences are why I advise you to have an unbiased contact within your program that can help you. You should always have a way out of a bad situation.

I hope you find a way to study and that these tips help you on your journey. I truly believe that I would not be the same person today if I had not left the country. Colombia changed me for the better. I feel like I am less judgmental of other cultures and that I am more understanding towards people who are living away from home. My year abroad gave me the passion of travelling. I hope that I have this passion for the rest of my life, and that I never stop travelling.

Journal 01/27/21 - Looking Forward

Hey, welcome to the Journal for Wednesday, January 27th, 2021 "Looking Forward"

My name is Eric Leo. I’m a sociologist, social psychologist, philosopher, author, blogger, and hip-hop artist and this is my journal where I talk about myself and my philosophy!

Im still growing out my hair to donate it. I’m still developing my TikTok video ideas. I’m reading books about branding and being an influencer. When I think about not doing it I remember that because I had a following on YouTube I got a book published because someone paid for it for me. Every time a TikToker says they hit another million they talk about how their life has changed for the better. So it really makes me want to pursue and find an audience.

Besides getting down to a target weight I also need a better phone and could use a tripod. I want the quality to look as professional as possible, otherwise, I’m afraid I won’t go viral which is the goal. I plan on studying how to create TikTok’s through skillshare. These are all the reasons I’m waiting to launch.

Weight Loss Journey

I have been using my future online presence to motivate my weight loss. That and I’m hoping to become more attractive again to start dating. I’ve really had to listen to my body but I think I’ve come up with the solution. The goal was to create a healthy relationship with food. I do intermittent fasting and eat between 11 am and 7 pm. I try to eat at around 11, 3:30, and 6:30 and try maintaining under 800 calories a day. With this strategy, I eat nutritious food, feel satiated, and don’t constantly think about eating. If I get hungry, I eat, but it’s really small portions. I was getting wicked heartburn and acid reflux until I got on Pepcid ac. I didn't want to have an empty stomach because of it. But now the medication is really effective so I can fast.

I’ve been writing down calories for the most part but I got tripped up. For a week I tried Hello Fresh. It was good but I didn’t keep it up because it wasn’t keto. I got a coupon from a family member and took advantage of it. I ate a lot of rice. I miss rice and pasta most. I want to be known for my mind, not my body, but why I’m losing weight is because thinner is healthier.

Media Consumption

I saw a documentary on Netflix about Bob Lazar and how he worked on alien flying technology at Area 51, it was interesting. The Pentagon has lost trillions of dollars. It’s not a stretch of the imagination that the government could (at least) afford to house aliens and their technology if they wanted to. I’ve also been looking into Ancient Aliens, but have only seen a couple of episodes so far. I get it, the gods in ancient times were aliens, they visited us back then and now they visit us secretly today. Maybe, maybe not. But as Aristotle always said, “the mark of an educated mind is being able to entertain an idea without it being held as true.” I entertain the idea of aliens past and present and I like the Annunaki mythology most out of any origin story.

I’m really excited about “Streets of Dreams” hosted by Marcus Lemonis on CNBC. I have only seen what CNBC puts up on YouTube. I still watch YouTube the most. I find myself listening to highlights of the “Views” podcast with David Dobrik and Jason Nash who are funny and brighten my mood. I mostly watch documentaries and reality tv which I consider practical and my ‘dinner,’ whereas shows like “Views” are my dessert. I watch way more reality-based and non-fiction (like history) shows more.

I’ve been watching, “The Story of Us,” the “Cosmos: Possible Worlds” and “The Food That Built America” series. I wanna be a part of that story. In hip-hop, I’m selling myself and my music as a product. With books, I’m selling the development of philosophical ideas and my story as the product. I think focusing on the product and selling that divorced from myself is important. I want to learn and become fearless and great at selling a product. I think if I can learn that, everything else will come and I’ll be a part of that story.

Remission

Since I've been on my medication I can think more clearly about the future. I can actually be bored and then formulate what I want my future to be and reverse engineer how to get there. I can't focus and think about the future accurately off my medication.

I’m on the 3-month shot, Invega Trinza. I feel more clear than I’ve ever been. It took me years to get back to normal and for my medication to fully work. It’s not like I take my medication and everything is solved. It takes months to get stable. Doctors say I’m in remission. If you’re following the journal I probably entered remission around the beginning to mid-2019.

I look back at all the things I did and all the hell I put people through and I think “never again.” With all things considered I came out of the shenanigans pretty well. I have no criminal record. I have no history of violence. And I have great credit. Lesson learned, stay on your medication.

Looking Back

Back in 2007, I was studying business at GVSU. In what I think was the start of my schizophrenia episodes I had a change of heart, transferred to Eastern Michigan University, and pursued sociology. I think having a degree in science is valuable and helps me think correctly and critically but a large part of me wishes I had stayed with business.

It might be years and hard to get into grad school for sociology so I’ve switched gears more towards my business ambitions. Coldwater has a community college and I could pursue an associate in business which I hope my future employer will pay for otherwise it’ll be hard to afford. When I had my first schizophrenic episode in 2012 I was studying for a business certificate at Washtenaw community college. However, I never completed it and actually got a low grade because I didn’t show up to the final. I was in New York chasing Lady Gaga. It’ll look good on a college application to grad school if I go back to take a few classes and get my associates to show I’m stable and get a better grade in the class I left. I also want to take some courses on nutrition on Edx.org and create a portfolio of knowledge and accolades to make myself very marketable in the space.

Getting Down to Business

I am studying business and becoming much more business-oriented. I have the clarity of mind to become more ambitious, organized, and sophisticated. I’m much more focused on the future than the past, which I attribute to my medication. I have to figure out how to write a business plan for my food business. I hope to find steady part-time work and invest in the stock market and start-ups. I’m focused on playing by the rules of social security so I don’t get kicked off but be able to build wealth. Let’s just say it’s challenging.

The Biden Plan

I’m excited to see what Biden does with social security and I plan on writing people in the government about making a better system that doesn’t have such strict limitations for people who want to work on disability and keep their healthcare. The Supreme Court will also be deciding on the Affordable Care Act. If it were to be canceled that would affect me if I ever got off of disability because they could deny my pre-existing condition of schizophrenia. This would make my medication unaffordable and very expensive which could leave me in misery. If you fail you sit in poverty, if I fail I go delusional and get screamed at by voices in my head. Life’s not fair.

With that said, I feel very fortunate that I didn't have to work during the pandemic. I’m also very grateful to be on social security disability. But there is much more room for improvement.

20 Something Questions For the Twenty-Somethings

In a world where screens and filters allow us to fine-tune what others see, interviews are the unfiltered lens through which the core self breaches through. The word itself contains ‘inter’ (“the inside”) and ‘view’ (perspective).

Would you be friends with someone for months without asking any questions about each other? I use this logic when diving into the interviews of artists and people I’ve recently discovered. Not to mention, the act of listening is a skill to continuously strengthen. On a similar note, learning about the whole astrological chart and not just the sign leaves more room for understanding on a deeper level.

A well of information unfolds between two people asking and answering a series of questions. Moreover, the responses are often more sincere than a simple google search or post might tell you. It’s a conversation, not just an update. The backstage persona is unveiled. If our social media presence is the cover, then interviews are the story itself.

Artists are particularly articulate in the art of storytelling and I’ve found that they are equally as poetic in their approach to music-making as they are in formulating verbal messages. Asking the right questions is also required in order to unravel this thread of lyrical conversations.

Irony lies in the timing of this interview exploration. Citizens are governed to wear masks in public and social distance from other humans. Additionally, we’ve seen an outbreak of discrimination over the color of another human’s skin. As a result, people are taking insistent action for the outdated injustices. “Uncomfortable” sums up the experience to say the least, and yet a nudge of uncertainty provokes growth.

Live shows are a no-go because public spaces hold too many face-to-face interactions. What does an artist do if their career relies on the support of these gatherings? In this case, music does its best to stabilize and to fill other spaces. Music is the filler of voids and the stationary reservoir. Songs have the same transformative healing through the ears as they did before all of the blindsided turbulence. They go right to the internal matter.

In the middle of writing these paragraphs, I passed by “Izzy the elephant” in my hometown. Everyday for the past six years, this giant elephant statue holds up a new inspirational message on a whiteboard to brighten people’s day.

I didn’t fully get to read the end for accuracy, but I’m pretty sure the one I saw read: “Ask yourself, am I shining in the light of my darkness?”

This global pandemic is a waiting game in the dark. Everyone is still blindly walking around, facing the situation mask to mask. We don’t know how long or what our communities will look like as we merge back into them. I do know this: asking questions is momentum. More wisdom creates an influx of movement.

What better time to ask questions than a period where we are physically inside and going inward? The world appears to be moving backwards, but a different perspective suggests it’s just a pause. We’ve traveled past the point of our bodies losing grip in the wake of a retrograde. Revolutionary shifts are speeding up the enlightening process. A new reality is being shaped by the steps we’re taking today.

So, are you a fool for asking questions or do you ask questions because it’s part of the quest a fool is fixated on?

25. As someone that’s constantly reworking writing pieces almost to a fault, I imagine it’s difficult sometimes to put the ribbons on a piece of music for others to listen to. How do you know when a song is “done”? What about an album?

26. In a Joni Mitchell interview with CBC News: The National, she said she doesn’t like to look back at her music because she hears the things she’d do differently. “Divine dissatisfaction” is what drives her to her next period without making the same mistakes.

Out of curiosity, how often do you listen back to your music? Do you get too critical or are you proud overall? Is there anything you’d change if you could?

27. So, this next question is sort of ironic for several reasons. The first being I asked and answered this in my previous interview session. The second is that my response focused on the concept of someone asking a lot of questions, but not getting all the answers to make them feel satisfied...

Week 4 and 5

We looked at the Harvard way of referencing so we would know how to reference properly according to the uni in our dissertations. Harvard style referencing is an author/date method. Sources are cited within the body of your assignment by giving the name of the author(s) followed by the date of publication. All other details about the publication are given in the list of references or bibliography at the end.

Kat gave us an example to look at.

Harvard referencing isn’t something I’ve done before so I thought I should do some research into it at home too as I know that there can be some bad consequences if you get it wrong.

I found a handbook that I think will come in helpful as it seems to break down exactly what you need to do for every type of reference.

I also spoke to Kat about the research I had done into social media addiction but also decided I still wanted to carry on research into rehabilitation after prison as it is another thing that I would be interested in doing for my dissertation. Me and Kat spoke about the sort of things that I would need to look into in order to find out more about this process. There would be three categories of prisoners that I could look at for this; prisoners who have committed the crime as a necessity (provide for their family), prisoners who are mentally ill, and the wrongly accused. I want to look at the rehab programs that are offered to prisoners and the after care that they receive. Hopefully I will be able to interview some ex-prisoners or even some prison guards to gain some inside information that I may not be able to find from stats on the internet.

I have a friend that went to prison for 9 months and was also on tag for a period of time, I thought I could ask him some questions about the sorts of things he was offered within the prison and what he had to do when he was still on tag.

There are different types of rehabilitation techniques that prisoners get;

Parole

A commonly used method in justice systems around the world as a way to help reintegrate offenders into society. During parole the offender is released before his or her sentence is completed in exchange for fulfilling certain conditions, such as gaining employment, refraining from drug and alcohol use, and refraining from contacting the parolee’s victims (if any). Parolees are also often required to regularly check in with a parole officer who ensures that the parolee is adhering to his or her conditions for release. By offering early release in exchange for good behavior, parole is meant to make the transition from incarceration to freedom easier.

Home detention curfew (HDC)/Tag

Some prisoners are released early subject to a curfew which requires them to be at home for between 9-12 hours per day, allowing them to live at home and to work during the final weeks of their sentence. They are given an electronic tag, a small device which is fitted to the ankle or wrist. The tag sends a regular signal to a monitoring centre which confirms the presence of the person in their place of curfew. If they are absent or try to tamper with the equipment the monitoring centre is alerted and the breach investigated. HDC lasts a minimum of 14 days and a maximum of 3 months for those serving less than 12 months, and a maximum of 4 and a half months for those serving 12 months to 4 years.

Treatment

Some crimes, particularly drug crimes, are the result of an individual’s own addiction problems. While incarceration was previously used as a “tough on crime” punishment against people convicted of drug crimes, legal experts are increasingly recognizing that incarceration does little to address the underlying causes of addiction. As a result, in many jurisdictions judges are given the discretion to sentence offenders to mandatory substance abuse programs in lieu of prison, particularly if it is the offender’s first offense. Such treatment programs are designed to help people overcome their addiction problems, thus allowing them to become fully functioning members of society.

The method that I am most interested in looking at is home detention curfew, I was particularly interested in this rehabilitation scheme as its the one that my friend was on, but also because this is the one that actually allows the prisoner to leave prison early, alongside parole, so it means that these are the prisoners who are most in need of being reintegrated back into normal life, it would be interesting to see if the process they go through actually helps them

I started researching a bit into HDC, I wanted to find some key facts, I thought this would help me decide whether I wanted to choose this as what I do for my dissertation as I want to make sure that what I end up doing is something that I am really interested in, as I am going to have to do a lot of research into it and do a lot of reading about it. I also feel like if I was doing something that I am not that interested then it would show in my work.

Any of the facts or statistics that I find may be useful if I do choose this topic so I wanted to make sure I had the links so I could refer back to it when I am writing the dissertation.

General stats about re-offending

- Ten per cent (6,643) of the HDC sample were recalled to prison while they were being electronically monitored.

- The majority of the recalled offenders, 8%, were recalled for breaching the terms of their curfew while the remaining 2% were returned to prison for committing a further offence while on HDC.

- Offenders whose current conviction was either burglary or robbery were twice as likely to be recalled compared to prisoners who had committed other types of offences.

- Thirteen per cent of prisoners released on HDC had previously breached licence conditions. 23% of the offenders who were recalled from HDC had previous breaches compared to only 12% of those who were not recalled.

- HDC released prisoners who were recalled had committed almost twice as many crimes in the past than those who were not returned to prison.

- From July 2006 to March 2010, 7,292 people were released on HDC; 21% of them were recalled, which equates to an average of 34 people per month.

- People on HDC are predominantly male, on shorter sentences (63% were serving sentences of 6 months to less than 2 years), and have a less serious offending profile compared to the overall prison population.

- It costs £126 per week to keep someone on HDC, compared to a notional cost of £610 per week to keep them in prison.

- Prisoners and staff strongly felt open prison made it easier for prisoners to transition to life back in their home communities.

- Citing figures showing that only 21% of potentially eligible offenders were released under the scheme in 2016, the instruction emphasised that refusing HDC for prisoners who qualify should be the “exception”.

Alex Hewson, of the Prison Reform Trust, said: “The recent reduction in the prison population is welcome, and reflects a sensible and measured streamlining of existing guidance for home detention curfew.

Getting low risk individuals out of prison a few weeks early on a curfew gives them the opportunity to re-establish themselves in their local community, and has the additional benefit of providing some vital breathing room for a system under intense pressure.”

General facts in regards to homelessness and rates of re-offending

I want to look at how homelessness can effect the rates of re-offending too, seen as if released prisoners don’t have any accommodation because they can’t afford it, then its more likely that they will either re-offend just to stay alive by stealing food for themselves, or they may even re-offend on purpose because for them it may be easier to stay in prison where they get things like a bed and food, when outside they don’t.

- Fifteen percent of prisoners in the sample reported being homeless before custody. Three and a half percent of the general population reported having ever been homeless.

- Nearly two in five prisoners (37%) stated that they would need help finding a place to live when they were released. Of these, 84% reported needing a lot of help.

- Three-fifths (60%) of prisoners believed that having a place to live was important in stopping them from reoffending in the future.

- More than three-quarters of prisoners (79%) who reported being homeless before custody were reconvicted in the first year after release, compared with less than half (47%) of those who did not report being homeless before custody.

I think its really important that I include statistics from the re-offences that occur purely from being homeless. Although its never right to commit a crime, its important to understand that in some circumstances these people may have no other option than to turn to crime in order to stay alive, and it could be through no fault of their own.

Heavy

I deleted Okc. Relationships have become too traumatizing for me to handle which is an incredibly sad thing. I’ve never been in a happy healthy relationship longterm even though I’ve been in two relationships that lasted 4+ years. I was so much more happy with Adam than I had ever been with a person for the first two years thinking he was the greatest guy and so perfect and that all of my suffering was finally over and everything in the past was worth it to have found this great person to love me and I still loved him even after I started doubting his love and attraction to me. Once he discovered the existence of another person I just never felt the same type of love from him anymore and it made me resent him and act in ways I regret. But he always assured me it was nothing and tried to make me feel as secure as possible in our relationship with words even though his actions and my gut feeling told me differently. I feel something’s fundamentally wrong with me where I repel the people I want most and my insecurity and the way I act over the possibility of losing them only repels them more and that I’m just a person people are with until they realize what it is they really want. He broke up with me 6 months ago but my hearts been broken for 3+years and it’s something I still carry with me. It’s like a heavy weight I’ve been carrying with me for so long that I’ve been unable to put down and eventually you get used to carrying it so it just becomes a part of how you go through life not really noticing it’s there. But any time you stumble or fall or something makes you realize the weight is still there and how heavy it is it makes you tired all over again even though for a moment you were able to forget that you were carrying it. Like, I’m not the most beautiful or have the body I want and am obviously insecure over it so when my partners are attracted to people (a person) who are so much more beautiful and secure than I am and can spend all of their time engulfed in their hobbies and encompass everything I want to be and also share more things in common with my partner than I do it destroys me. Sometimes I feel like I’ll never get over it because it’s so hard. I thought in the end it would prove to be worth it to spend 5 years just accepting being minimally happy and putting aside everything you wanted to happen for five years so he could continue to do what he wanted but always wishing I’d have more presence and relevance in his life but just came out feeling worse, disposable and demonized by people who don’t even know me. Deep down I want there to be someone out there for me who’s really perfect and someone who won’t unintentionally make me doubt my good qualities or feel like I have to compare myself to other people. Or feel like if I was just someone else they would have made an instagram account instantly and would be happy to post about our relationship on social media because it makes them happy and they’re actually excited to be with me, not because I feel like I’m forcing them to. I know in his next relationship he’ll do exactly that and it hurts knowing that someone else is going to get everything you wanted. twenty nineteen. periodt.

i genuinely felt the need to write this because i was bored i have not written anything in a really long time. but mostly because there’s only a few who might read this and not care afterwards. it sucks to not be able to do something that i used to enjoy for quite a while. but here i am!

a lot of thoughts to unburden and a lot of unspoken feelings to unpack. let’s get to it, bih.

1. this year felt like it was dragging on. i wanted it to end asap.

so this year, i actually had A LOT of time. where did it go?

to: movies, series, anime, music, watching youtube videos, breakdowns, feeling stuck & paralyzed, academics, reading articles about pop culture & mainstream shit, going out with friends, chatting random ppl at night bc i thought i could trust them (and some of them, i can), and etc.

but on a more serious note, i really was more into the world of media, of both mainstream and indie worlds. i still can’t believe i got through this semester when i have been doing these things unrelated to uni. some ppl are also baffled by this activity log that i have.

point is: i felt like a walking zombie. probably looked like one as well. there is this routine that i have to do and i got really sick of myself. i didn’t have the motivation to strive more. i was always either sleeping (at least for the first half of the year) or watching. it all feels lifeless. the latter part of the year, my body clock was wrecked. i did not like the weather during daytime. at all. i slept during the day when i did not have classes then i was awake at night. but i try to get as much sleep as i can because my health is declining. i think.

also this year felt like it had 3 sequels. unnecessary, boring, full-of-jump-scares type of sequels. fuck.

2. feeling anxious and chill at the same time.

the only thing that made me feel chill at the latter part of the year is the fact that this shit... like all these shitty things we’ve been doing... will pass anyway.

i don’t know if it’s because of the new system that was implemented but it definitely feels like the stress levels were high only during exam weeks. for real. i am grateful to have THAT kind of “stress privilege (??)” but i also wish i was stressing over something that gives me LIFE. i know i’m studying for something that will actually help me provide something for myself and for my family but my soul (oh crap here’s where things get cheesy) screams i should do something else.

my friend always tells me to chill but i couldn’t because there’s always that nagging thought that i have to do something productive everyday. i think it stems from past disappointments, failed expectations from ppl close to me, and just basically feeling like a failure. i’m a frantic mess who somehow has the time to do unnecessary things. wish the energy was put into finishing acads on time or earlier, but here we are. think they meant that i should be chill with mysef. to be kind to myself. to not panic and breathe.

another thing is that there’s a load of information shoved in my head that really paralyzes me to act on something.

3. leaving behind the things i’ve outgrown.

it’s so funny how i’ve met few new people this year who i already treasure only to have quite a number of people to walk out of my life.

it’s not really surprising to me. i think we all wanted it to happen anyway. i’m just happy that things kind of subtly fell apart for things to make more sense. the feeling is kind of like how a misplaced puzzle piece is put into its rightful place. finally, i don’t have to force myself and i think the feelings are mutual. anyway, this year was a revelation in itself despite how dragging the pacing felt. love how the gunk went out and i see now what i’ve been blind to. chuck the deuce! definitely a thank u, next moment.

4. meeting new people, unexpected unions.

i definitely did not expect to form connections and be reunited with some of my old friends this year. also witnessed deepened friendships.

there’s always this thing where i put my energy on a high level when i’m meeting new people just to seem decent and happy then slowly revealing how tired, sad, and boring i can be. then there’s that fear of losing people’s interest in me or people not becoming excited to talk to me about... anything really. never thought i’d have this fear of losing certain people in my life. i want to detach myself from that and from people themselves too (in a healthy way ofc).

i’ve never ever felt like i could lose people in an instant. there’s that thing where i worry if i’m too much or i’m lacking for people. so i appreciate people who let me know if i’m crossing the line or if i’m doing something that completely annoys them because i really want to be part of people’s lives, meaningfully and genuinely. a good one. i don’t want to half-ass my relationships with other people and i seek loving relationships that thrive and inspire where it doesn’t only get good at the start but is continually progressing even when we don’t see each other often. it’s fascinating how as we get older, we see how relationships are not as simple as we think they are but really are simple at the same time. we have different goals, we are at different stages in our lives, we are facing shit that nobody else seems to understand and things that don’t seem to end, and we can only hope that our mere presence and emotionally available hearts will listen to whatever the other person has to unburden.

it’s been a long time. i have lost contact with You but You are always there to patch things up for me. every effin’ time. i cry everytime.

it must be because i was raised in a christian setting. that’s why i always think it’s You who’s working behind the scenes. but still i am grateful.

saved me from certain people.

saved me this semester.

saved me from pulling worthless all-nighters.

provided me financially esp when i thought i had nothing.

7. a life without a plan.

this is literally what i wanted to happen. not carelessly but like where i don’t have to worry about what to do next. just let things be and go with the flow. the first half of this year, i really did not think things through as i normally would and i let plans fall just to enjoy what was in front of me. be at ease and be present during that time. and i did. it was a peaceful, cheery time tbh.

8. every day i wanted to start over just to get over a lot of things.

9. i missed a lot of ppl.

10. i wanted to be held. not by a certain someone. not romantically. but by anyone close to me. *plays i’m with you by avril lavigne*

we’re so intent on doing things all at the same time. finishing everything in one sitting. being productive became an addiction and it scared me how i was becoming affected by this. there’s this constant thought that we collectively share which is to do something by every day and it only adds up to people’s anxiety and depression. social media definitely made us aware of mental illnesses/disorders but then it became a trend. people self-diagnose themselves and end up with the wrong treatment. some people use it as a tool to get followers and... ugh it’s all a mess. i hope people get the right treatment/s AND/or professional help because if they don’t, they’ll lose themselves. i mean... just look at the sky. there’s literally no sign of a star now if u live in the city. we’ve lost sight of what should guide us. we are unconsciously following a false light thru our devices.

i’m not good at analogies or at explaining things as u can tell. but moving on...

this hyper self-awareness that i have gained from social media has its advantages but is also distracting me from living my best life. i didn’t realize that i was making my own christmas lights inside my seemingly dark mind when really... it’s just clouded by all this information that’s coming in fast and has affected who i am and certain areas of my life. i’ve almost forgotten this and i’ve come to believe again that there’s always an ever-present light and it will take time to get used to its brightness once my mind gets clearer by the day. hopefully, it will.
