I really do think that it’s good for the soul to be unironically pretentious about something. Not in a gatekeeping kind of way but in a “yes, it really is that deep and I would love to enthusiastically and passionately explain why” kind of way.

Ko-Fi requeest for T! day 50!

(they gave me a couple ideas for the prompt too, one of them being a poetry read! i thought it might be cute if instead of snapping they did like. soft little howls)
The second part was extra as a v fun exercise! I think werewolves in general would have a lot of diversity in style and shifted/half-shifted forms so this gave me an excuse to play around with that :) thought I should include a werehyena bc that's the wolf substitute for the shape-shifters of African folklore (and *jaguars in south america, tigers in India, etc!)
Also in doing a little bit of research for Black werewolf characters I found this super cool werewolf comic I wanted to highlight by Michelin Hess, a Black author/artist! She has other work that you should check out too. In fact, feel free to shout out any of your favorite Black artists in the comments or tags! Or let me know the other ways y'all are celebrating this month :)

I understand that literature nerd Jason Todd is kind of overblown in fanon compared to it's actual presence in canon (a few issues during his pre (and post?)crisis Robin tenure that highlight it) BUT consider that I think it's hilarious if the unhinged gun toting criminal has strong opinions on poetry
#ramblings of a lunatic#dc comics#Jason Todd#batfamily#it's just a fun quirk! it's a fun lil detail and I simply cannot slight ppl for enjoying and incorporating it into works#like obviously jason isn't the only one. I'm a big believer in the batfam having over lapping interests they refuse to bond over#i know dick canonically used the robin hood stories (which are pretty flowery in their language far as i can tell) as inspo for Robin#and i know babs was a librarian and even tho her area of nerddom is characterized as more computery she probably knows quite a lot-#-about literature as well#duke is a hobbyist writer i believe? i saw a fan mention that- which if so is great and I hope he's also a nerd#(i mean he is canonically. i remember him being a puzzle nerd in his introduction. but i mean specifically a lit nerd)#damian called Shakespeare boring but also took acting classes so i think he's more of a theatre kid.#Tim's a dropout and i don't think he's ever shown distinct interest in english lit and i can't remember for Steph?#I'm ngl my brain hyperfocused on musician Steph i forget some of her other interests I'm sorry (minus softball and gymnastics!)#and then Cass had her whole (non linear but it's whatevs) arc about literacy and learning to read#went from struggling to read in batgirl 00 to memorizing Shakespeare in 'tec and is now an avid read in batgirls!#she's shown reading edgar allen poe but we don't know if it's his short stories or his poems#point to all of the above being: i know Jason's not the only lit nerd in the batfam#but also i do need him to be writing poetry in his spare time and reading and reviewing it#jason at the next dead robins society meeting: evening folks today I'll be assigning all of us poems based on laika the space dog#damian and steph who have been kidnapped and brought to jasons warehouse to hangout: LET US GO BITCH#speaking of^ random poem i think jason would like: space dog by alan shapiro#wake up one morning in an unfamiliar more mature body with a profound sense of abandonment. the last four lines. mmm tasty

modern au katara reads books “for fun” that are “engaging” and “enjoyable” and sokka (big finnegan’s wake head) is like “weak. i only read books that exacerbate my suicidal tendencies”

anyway my stance on "reading the classics" basically boils down to the fact that what is or is not defined as "a classic" is somewhat arbitrary, and therefore it makes no sense to treat "the classics" as some sort of uniform genre that you either like or dislike. Whether you liked Great Expectations has no bearing on whether you'll like 1984 or Rebecca or Pride and Prejudice or East of Eden or Frankenstein or Crime and Punishment. Because those are all vastly different books. "I don't want to read Classics; they're all boring and probably sexist or something." <<free yourself from the arbitrary category of "classic." It just means a lot of people liked the book. You might not. but you might. Treat it as an individual title.

just decided to share with y'all my not-so-big but not-so-small Frankenstein editions collection 👁️👁️
I have 14 books for now! most of them are English-language editions, but I also have several books in Ukrainian, as well as one in German and one in French – really hope to find an opportunity to collect more editions in other languages in the future.
details are under the cut!
1. one of my latest thing! Frankenstein (Deluxe Edition) 2023, with absolutely stunning illustrations. Damn, it was quite expensive for me, but ahhhhh this is so beautiful I can't-
Tumblr media
2. another beaty! Macmillan Collector's Library's edition, small but so pretty under the supercover, and THIS blue colour!! and inside design!!
Tumblr media
3. this one is one of my ultimate faves ahhhhh. Signet Classics's edition, and I'm absolutely IN LOVE WITH THIS COVER, HEELLLL!! it also is very pleasant to touch
Tumblr media
4-5. German and French (with McAvoy on the cover jkjdkdjdkd) editions! they were the gift from my friend and I really love to have them in collection – also really love the choice of colours in the German edition, just YES
Tumblr media
6-8. three Ukrainian editions – first 2 in Ukrainian, the 3rd is in English and has a very silly cover :)
the first one is my favorite, because I really like this format, and I also leave notes in it during the process of re-reading the book
Tumblr media
9. also my latest purchase – Frankenstein: Junji Ito Story Collection. I haven't read it yet, but heeeellll so gorgeous wtf
Tumblr media
10. Usborn Young Reading's edition of Frankenstein. More like retelling for children, but oh, it has really cute illustrations on each page :3
Tumblr media
11-13. few more editions in English!
first one – Penguin Clothbound Classics's edition, and of course I NEEDED to have it, because it's really looking and feeling so damn good. This also was the gift from my friend (the same one with the German and French editions) and god, SHE IS THE BEST.
second – Collins Classics's edition, I just like its cover – laconic, but kinda expressive??? idk. but well, this one has very small font of text just uhhh impossible to read.
third – idk what it really is lol, but the cover looks pretty but also kinda funny because of this photoshopped heart lol
Tumblr media
14. my very first edition, it's in russian and I don't have much to say about it, but it was cheap and has some of my notes so I keep it.
