The Keysmash Code

DESCRIPTION:

The Keysmash Code is an impenetrable sequence of characters which Tumblr users encode their emotions into. There is a logic to it, but only to the one who presses the keys. Learning to understand the diverse Keysmash Codes of one’s neighbors on Tumblr is a key stage (pun intended) of the life-cycle of a new arrival. A great deal of information can be passed through the code: not only emotion but device of choice, language of origin, and even age. It is one of the native modes of expression, in common usage far back into the history of Tumblr.

FIELD NOTES:

The Code can be used to transmit valuable and secret data to trusted friends and associates without risking interference.

Encoding techniques go in and out of fashion, like clothing or music, so it is possible to use relics which contain Keysmashes in order to date artifacts to a particular time or place.

The Keysmash Code is possibly related to a phenomenon known as “crytyping,” but this theory needs more research before it is proven.

The second one is really vague and I’m sorry for that but I remember a WangXian fic where Wei Wuxian is part Veela and maybe he’s a Slytherin or Hufflepuff? I can’t seem to remember anything else besides there being a focus on Wei Wuxian’s volatile nature and battle prowess due to his Veela blood. He may have also killed a guy, or at least severely harmed some guy in self defense. I loved their world building and I’m so upset that I’ve lost both of them. Thank you for the help in advance.

I have a request though, I'm trying to look for this fiction where wei ying is a general (i think) and lan zhan is a dragon, and there's a war between all sect, with the lans, the nie, and wen on one side, against the jin and jiang on the other. There's also animal shifters among the gentry where I think the jiang might be water birds?? I can't quite remember. The jiang and Jin end up defeated and the others win. Wei ying.is also a genius tactician and is respected by the other side of the war. I can't remember the name of the fiction and I'm desperate to find it. I think it's a completed fic too

He's also pretty depressed I think? When WWX realizes that LWJ is born he storms into the Cloud Recesses and demands LWJ's hand in marriage -- LWJ is only 12 (I think) at this point and LQR and LXC are horrified but LWJ agrees without their input (he still has his original memories). WWX starts out just treating LWJ like a child he's very fond of but when LWJ gets older and becomes an adult, they resume a sexual relationship and I think WWX comments on how they're slowly shifting their dynamics from Kind Mentor WWX/Young Mentee LWJ to Bratty Bubbly WWX/Calm Dominant LWJ. Firstly, I want to say thank you, this blog is awesome, and I have found so many good Fics to read as well as find ones that I have lost or forgot to bookmark.

Secondly, I would like help to find a fic, from what I remember Wei Ying was drunk on the rooftop when someone approached. In his drunken state, he thinks it was Lan Wangji that showed up so he goes on saying things like are you here to punish me again. He also asks why Lan Wangji hates him so much, but the whole entire time it was actually Lan Xichen he was talking to. I think it takes place after he got punished for drinking in Cloud Recess, and then something happens and he almost falls off the roof but Lan Xichen catches him. Lan Wangji had apparently witnessed the whole thing and tried to apologize but Lan Xichen coldly tells him the apology should be given to Wei Ying instead when he wakes up.

18. So I’m looking for a specific fic that I know is on ao3, can’t remember the name of the story nor the author though.

And that’s after looking through my history on ao3 for over an hour.

All I really remember from it was that it was short, like one to ten chapters long.

(And yes I do consider 10 chapters short)

It took place in cloud recess study arc, jiang Cheng punched or got into a physical fight with Jin Zixuan, in the classroom if I remember correctly.

Wei wuxian was injured. Somehow, story could be after the waterborne abyss.

It's incredibly jarring that my academic efforts are never, ever acknowledged by my family. They always choose to highlight my behavioral issues, borderline delinquency & numerous disciplinary measures against me which is like. I understand I was not a thankful student to work with. But in my 16 years of schooling, I succeeded in:

1) graduating from one of the only two classics-oriented middle schools in Croatia, meaning that by the time i turned 14 I had 4 years of Latin and 2 years of ancient Greek under my belt. I was able to recite and translate Cicero without a dictionary, placing 5th at the national competition in Latin and 9th in Greek (thus winning my school two awards that are still displayed there)

2) graduating from the maths and computer science program in the second highest ranked high school in Croatia (in terms of exam results and in terms of how difficult it is to get in, counting both public and private schools) where I took maths, croatian, english, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science theory, programming, latin, psychology, philosophy, history, geography, art history, music theory, logic, sociology, political science, religion class and gym (that is 20 classes, and they werent distributed evenly thruout 4 years, every semster Id have to take 16 classes at once and I was in school for almost 8 hours every day)

3) completing the Matura exams (croatian equivalent of SATs, though they were mandatory for me to take to be able to graduate) and ranking in the top 4% in maths, top 13% in Croatian, and top 2% in English (out of over 19,000 seniors who took the exams)

4) getting into my first choice college (5 years with a double major) and completing freshman year with a GPA of over 4 out of 5 (notably, I passed Elementa Latina which required me to take a written grammar and syntax exam, oral grammar and syntax exam, literature and culture exam & present my original translations of about 30 pages of Ovid, Caesar and Catullus)

And I know I faltered there. I know I went on to fail sophmore year and then retake it and fail again, I disappointed everybody, I did... I wasted the opportunity to go to college for free that so many would kill for. I'm entirely to blame. But I hate being reduced to this! I hate everybody acting like I never accomplished anything 😭 I'm fighting really hard to catch up to my peers and be more successful. But it sucks that everyone is always talking about what a disappointment my education has been...

Foxfire and Exillium can't be the only schools in the Lost Cities, so I'm making up my own, a secret third option, Gildstern.

Gildstern is a school for non-banished elves who do not pass the entrace exam or midterms or finals for Foxfire, talentless elves, and non-noble elves.. If a noble elf is talentless, the elf goes to Gildstern instead for what would traditionally be the Elite Levels.

School starts at nine o'clock am sharp, and ends at 4:30 pm.

Gildstern focuses on non-ability-based things. In the Foxfire curriculum, those are noted as the following:

Agriculture - this is taught by gnomes! It is to be noted that some Gildstern graduates tend to go into the agricultural field, and work with gnomes. The Council uses that as an excuse - 'we're doing agriculture too!' and safely ignores the fact that Gildstern graduates are, by virtue of their position, not exactly happy with the Council.

Alchemy & Elementalism - a popular pastime and career, alchemy is some Gildstern students' favourite class. Like agriculture, alchemy is a very common career choice for Gildstern graduates. Instead of being two independent courses, Gildstern has chosen to combine them. Slang is often used, as this is called 'AlchEm'.

History - it's very important to learn history. All history is taught, only the censors guarding things, including human history. The year is divided into halves, and then one half is divided into six quadrants. One half of the year is spent teaching about Elvin history, and the other six are about all other intelligent species and humans.

Physical Education & Skills - the skill teaching in Exillium and the physical education in Foxfire, combined! Called just Physical Education.

Metaphysics & the Universe - exactly like in Foxfire, again combined. As slang, Gildstern students call this class 'The Works'.

Talents/Linguistics - this is its own thing, where elves who have manifested take classes together with those who also manifested. If the students are talentless and in the last two years of Gildstern, they replace this class with Linguistics, where they learn languages. Those languages are not taught to manifested students, although if the students really want to, they are allowed to take Linguistics in a different way. Talents and Linguistics replace what was previously Ability Detecting for the previous five years.

Okay, that's the curriculum. There are tests, but there is no need to score perfectly on them. Instead, those tests are used to determine which group the students fall into. Smarter students are in class together, while less smart students are together too. It varies subject by subject, and the Gildstern staff just says it's because of schedule mixing.

Students have five days of school, two of which have half their classes, two of which have the other half, and one of which comprises entirely of study hall and visiting hours. If the student is taking talents, they have a period where they can take Linguistics. If students are not taking talents, they can sign up for any of the clubs which happen, or they can spend time in the music program. If you're not taking music or linguistics, you can just simply have a study period. at that time, you don't even need to be at school.

Things to do on study hall days are listed as thus:

Linguistics - if you are taking talents, here is your two-hour period for Linguistics! 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

Music - have an interest in music? Take this class to learn music theory, compose music, and make music. Happens at 11:05 am to 12:05 pm.

Lunch - you're required to be at lunch, because announcements and attendance is recorded here, as it is in the rest of the days. 12:10 pm to 1:10 pm.

Hobby Clubs - these are clubs for things like reading, writing, animals, games, and design. 1:15 pm to 1:45 pm.

Drama - technically a class. This lasts for one and a half hours. 1:50 pm to 3:20 pm.

Subject Clubs/Tutoring - each last thirty minutes, and run twice. If you're interested in a particular subject, get there for one of the sessions, or sign up for tutoring! Help each other and have fun! 3:25 pm to 3:55 pm OR 4:00 pm to 4:30 pm.

Of all schools, Gildstern in the closest to high school and middle school formats in the human world.

Students who are talentless enjoy study hall days because they do not have to arrive at school until 12:00 pm, or, if they take music, until 11:00 am. Sometimes, if a student has no classes on a study hall day, they only come for lunch and then leave. After all, lunches are quality and worth it, and leaping is easy.

An student's schedule on regular days may look like this:

9:00 am to 10:00 am - The Works

10:05 am to 11:05 pm - History

11:10 pm to 12:10 pm - AlchEm

12:15 pm to 1:15 pm - Lunch

1:20 pm to 2:20 pm - Agriculture

2:25 pm to 3:25 pm - Physical Education & Skills

3:30 pm to 4:30 pm - Astrakinesis

The same student's schedule on a study hall day might look like this:

9:00 am to 11:00 am - Linguistics

11:05 am to 12:05 pm - Study Hall

12:10 pm to 1:10 pm - Lunch

1:15 pm to 1:45 pm - Architecture Club

1:50 pm to 3:20 pm - Study Hall

3:25 pm to 3:55 pm - Linguistics Club

Gildstern is a manor donated by a talentless Vacker who realized with anger that there is no option for continued education. To this day, there has always been a talentless principal. The manor is large, and contains multiple wings. Fortunately, the secret passageways now function as actual things, and people will often take them to get places easier. The manor is shaped like Versailles, and is around half the size of Versailles. One wing is entirely devoted to apartments, for the teachers and principles, in case if necessary.

Wraith is the Vanishing teacher.

It was actually quite funny how the habit started.

Your daughter was a bit of a rough sleeper in the beginning, not able to be in her own room even when it was time to have her start sleeping separately. She would cry and cry and cry, and while you didn’t think it was on purpose, it was frustrating to not know why she was doing it. Was she uncomfortable? Or scared? Sad because she couldn’t hear the sound of her father mumbling in his sleep or instantly feel your comforting touch when she started to wiggle in her bassinet? Whatever the case was, you and Allen had been quickly reaching the end of your ropes.

It was only a joking suggestion put out by Hajun, to bore her with the history of hip hop, but the thought was stuck in Allen’s brain until the very next night when you laid her in the crib again. When she began crying you had sat up, rubbing your eyes and going to swing your legs over the side of the bed when you felt Allen’s hand on your arm.

“I’ll do it,” He was still half-asleep but his statement was confident, pulling you back into the warmth of your sheets. Allen laid beside you a few more moments until you smacked at his arm, pointing out your daughter was impatiently waiting for his arrival before he actually rolled out of the bed.

When he held her in his arms and began to talk she went silent, big eyes looking up at him with what he said was unbridled curiosity. You think it was just wishful thinking on your hip-hop addicted husband but you weren’t going to squash his dreams, especially when after just a few minutes of talking she seemed to get lulled into an impenetrable sleep that had her out like a light the entire rest of the night. You tested the theory the following night by having Allen be the one to put her down, listening ot him talk and talk until he finally settled her in her crib.

Not a peep.

He was happy that someone was willing to listen to him still after all these years, a statement you took offense to as you were subjected to quite a bit of history and random facts whenever something so much as reminded him of his favorite music. You still let him ramble, mostly, but sometimes you did have to shush him for the sake of your sanity; it was your daughters turn to listen patiently as her father ranted and raved.

“If you never put her down you’ll spoil her, Allen.”

“Huh? Oh…” Allen hadn’t even realized he was carrying her, the tirade almost a natural thing to go on the second she asked to be picked up; even now that she was older she liked the sound of her fathers voice to be the last thing she heard before bed, but it soon carried on into daily life. Now that she was old enough to listen and somewhat understand, she’d ask him questions, knowing it meant he would hold her longer and that she wouldn’t have to go to bed as long as she kept her eyes open.

“Yeah, it’s already half an hour past her bedtime. She’s gonna be cranky as hell when we have to wake her up tomorrow.”

“Nuh-uh.”

“Girl, please,” You kissed your daughter’s forehead even as she pouted at you foiling her plans, “Goodnight, my little songbird. Allen, if you’re not in our room in ten minutes—” You made a movement that your daughter didn’t quite understand, motioning up and down to imply you’ll sew his mouth shut so he can never speak about hip hop (or sing) again.

“Time for bed,” Allen said quite sternly, even when she gave him her biggest, teariest eyes, “I’ll tell you more tomorrow.”

“Okay papa.” Her head rested on his shoulder as she looked up at him with tired eyes, “Talk tomorrow…”

Allen still hummed a little tune for her, rocking her in his arms until her eyes slid shut and he could tuck her into bed without protest.

hi. <3 i'll never get enough of how you gush about sukuna being cultured and a lover of the arts, you consistently put out headcanons that also inspire me to write my own interpretations and i appreciate you so much for it.

but my main question is, what kind of art do you think modern man sukuna would like? in an alternate universe where he was born in the current era. so many fics about him being a chef, a tattoo artist, a history professor — but i'm eager to know what you think.

*cracks my fingers* I've stared at this ask for hours. Lets do this.

Basically, I can see him doing a little bit of everything. He's studied the proper way to produce haiku in canon, references thousands-years-old poetry, and shows himself to be something of a connoisseur of the arts by speaking in a flowery, ornate sort of language, using words like "uo" (Most notably: he references a Chinese poem in canon by the name of "Odes to Bei-jin gu (No. 4)" during the binding vow with Yuuji, uses "shiremono" instead of the modern "baka"when insulting Mahito, calls himself "datenshi" which in modern times means to strike instead of using it like he does for "fallen angel", etc. He uses outdated, ancient dialect borrowed from literature, essentially.) He's well read, refined, I dare venture to say he might have gone further and consumed Heian Era arts himself as a human being before becoming a curse, and he carried over the love of art as a result. (It scares anyone expecting an unrefined, unintelligent monster.) I even posed this to my groupchat to see what my writing partner thought, and they and I have never entertained the idea of him being a history professor, but with some thought, we could both see it. Listen. this is one of the things i want to express about him so much and in every world/au/verse: he's a man of culture. He's a man of the arts. Some arts more than others, of course, particularly the culinary arts as opposed to song writing or directing, but that's not to say that he doesn't have a vague interest in other things. Especially in a modern day sense; he is someone who consumed information on anything that he likes like a man starving. He'll know vague trivia, fun facts, and all sorts of things. Phones and Google tend to be great companions to him when he's engrossed in learning about something. But this is also where I feel like he is more akin to Megumi's interests since he also finds better company among books than in the company of other people. Or Gojo, who also consumes information at a rapid pace. In my writing, he tends to fall into being a tattoo artist (mainly because of the precision required to be good with needlework, and he's someone who can design free-handed as opposed to having a ready-made design to reference for every client. Not to mention that he gets to work in a little bit of everything as a result of different personalities coming in, and he's forced to scheme out and draw all kinds of things for the client's approval. Cats, calligraphy, in memoriam, cityscapes, watercolors (a favorite because it required prior knowledge of lighting and color theory), white ink, he's a wide-range artist that gets a good idea of the client's personality before he basically kicks them out to spend some time designing/sketching. It's also a talent forever being molded, and he can do it anywhere. That's not to say thats all he's up to though. Sukuna's got some talent in the kitchen for sure. He basically learned from consuming all kinds of information from books to video tutorials and watching others cook while he was younger and before he had a good idea of what he was doing. Megumi and Yuuji are his subjects for taste testing. It's the only time Yuu is allowed in the kitchen, frankly. Try to tell him how to work in his own damn kitchen though and he'll point a knife and tell you to get out. His kitchen, his rules. Don't like it? Eat shit then. I can see him liking a lot of arts. Painting, writing, haiku-making, music, composing, it can go on and on. Mostly because he can appreciate the time and effort behind those talents. Arts are the height of human capability.

When I get bored, I do weird stuff.

Like try to memorize the General Prologue for Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. Because it’s there.

So I got to thinking, while I was doing this, about what the pilgrims would be doing in modern times, given enough seed money to get started. Came up with the following, would enjoy discussion.

1. The Knight- Out of his depth. Way, way out of his depth. Used to getting automatic deference and respect, and used to religious warfare as a norm - would consider religious tolerance an abomination. Or...maybe not, maybe he has some of the same sort of respect for those he faced on the battlefield as Richard I and Saladin seem to have had for each other. Might be a massive danger to Muslim and Jewish populations in his neighborhood if given knowledge of and access to modern weaponry. Might even go full terrorist, while remaining eerily soft-spoken and polite. Or might hire himself out to Renfaires to give demonstrations, or join the military and work his way up to officer ranks. Or might have a television show/YouTube channel where he talks about what the military of today is Doing All Wrong. One never knows. He would need careful watching.

2. The Squire - Becomes handsome and charming celebrity, showing off his musical skills by writing/performing love songs that make young women swoon. Is constantly in the tabloids having passionate relationships with beautiful women. May end up as frontman for a boy band.

3. The Yeoman - Probably ends up doing wilderness survival training, or has a bowhunting show on TV. If he gets overconfident and if he ends up in the Americas, he might die by moose or polar/grizzly bear. Otherwise he should be fine.

4. The Prioress - Joins a convent that does substantial charity work with orphans and/or rescued animals. Is relieved to be a simple nun with simple duties she enjoys, instead of being out of her depth in the Prioress position (my theory is that she is a young half-educated girl shoved into that position because of personnel shortages related to the Black Death). Dotes on her charges with all her might. Lives relatively happily. Hopefully meets enough actual Jewish people to realize how wrong her anti-Semitic assumptions were.

5. The Monk - Immediately leaves the monastic life and is aggravated to discover that hunting is no longer so available or easy in modern England. Moves to America, probably does die of moose or bear.

6. The Friar - Becomes a television evangelist. Makes millions. Fathers several dozen illegitimate children. Retains a large fan base no matter how many scandals he gets involved in. Lives the good life, at least by purely physical standards.

7. The Merchant - Learns about the stock market. Either makes a fortune or loses his shirt or both. Probably both, multiple times.

8. The Clerk of Oxford - Goes home to Oxford, gets a position where, in exchange for some office hours every week spent serving as a primary source and letting historians, theologians, philosophers and other scholars pick his brain, he gets a simple living space, food, health care, a modest stipend, and full access to the Bodleian. Walks into the Bodleian, and either has a heart attack immediately and haunts the Bodleian forever as the Bookworm Ghost, or simply falls to his knees in awe, sobbing with joy at the sight of So Many Books. In either case, refuses to leave until forced, and comes back as soon as it opens again. May need some therapy once he finds out just how much the scholarly mindset has changed since his era, especially wrt religion - might also have trouble dealing with female scholars on equal terms, but then who knows, Heloise and Hildegard of Bingen and Catherine of Siena existed. Is assigned a grad student to remind him to eat and sleep on a regular basis.

9. Sergeant At Law - ends up teaching modern law students about the history of English legal practice in his day. Becomes a solid respectable citizen, thanks to his excellent memory.

10. Franklin - becomes a food critic, gets his own food and travel documentary, learns about all different sorts of cuisine, and delights in them, probably eventually dies of cardiac arrest from overeating. Becomes good friends with Guy Fieri.

11. Guildsmen - Become historical craft demonstrators. Or run for office, not sure which.

12. Cook - Gets treatment for that sore on his shin. Does cooking demonstrations for historical reenactments, teaches people what things like "blancmange" and "mortreux" are. May get his own cooking show.

13. Shipman - has his own YouTube channel featuring pirate stories (sometimes with him doing the piracy, sometimes with him fighting the pirates- he went back and forth in his day) and lots of sea shanties sung happily with vigor and verve. May run a tourist boat.

14. The Doctor of Phisik - is absolutely refused any possibility of returning to the practice of medicine until he updates his knowledge _substantially_. Finds out he needs no official qualifications whatsoever to become an astrologer, so does that instead and becomes well known and famous in astrology circles. Genuinely believes in the accuracy and effectiveness of his readings, no matter what evidence is provided him to the contrary. Makes a fortune.

15. The Wife of Bath - has a grand old time. Discovers feminism. Approves highly. Clothmaking skills plus an eye for beauty and desirability make her an excellent fashion designer - quality stuff, well-made, attractively-cut especially for larger women (she is not ashamed to be a Woman of Mass and Substance and is shocked to find that anyone would be), and with POCKETS. Travels extensively. Has lots of affairs. Gets a hearing aid. May market her own line of sex toys. Has absolutely no shame, and needs none. May marry again, may not, but either way it's on her own damn terms.

16. The Parson - may have to go through seminary again, may not. Becomes a quiet Catholic parish priest. Well, _probably_ stays Catholic, but just might convert to Anglicanism or another Protestant sect - he does seem to have had some Wycliffean leanings. But then, he'd probably approve of Pope Francis, who is in fact a solid ethical improvement on the popes of Chaucer's day. At least there's only ONE Catholic Pope and he's in Vatican City and not Avignon. In any case, does good work among the poor and homeless, is a trusted advisor and counselor to his flock, keeps his conscience clean, focuses on caring for others and teaching good behavior and religious devotion by example first and preaching later. Generally does just what he would have done back then, except in a somewhat different setting. Does not get involved with politics, except to benefit the poor, hungry and homeless. No matter how much people demand it of him. When he dies, his funeral is attended by a massive crowd of people genuinely mourning him, startling those who thought of him as just a simple parish priest.

17. The Ploughman - learns a modern trade, perhaps construction work. Works hard, helps others, is generally genial and friendly, pays his union dues as faithfully as he once paid his tithes, lives a comfortable peaceful life and is quite popular at his workplace and in his neighborhood. We find after his death that he was one of those people who lived simply but secretly gave away, bit by bit, what amounted to a fortune in charity. His funeral is as well-attended as his brother's.

18. The Miller - Goes into pro wrestling. May end badly if he forgets it's supposed to be fake and accidentally kills someone. His schtick involves bagpipes. Somehow.

19. The Manciple - Goes into the stock market. Is a quiet genius at it, despite lack of instruction. Does MUCH better than the Merchant. When asked his secret, simply replies, with a shrug, "I buy low and sell high."

20. The Reeve - becomes a CPA, manages money for the billionaire crowd (especially for the children of billionaires who inherit their money but haven't a clue how to properly handle it), does solidly well for his employers and gets extremely wealthy himself through mostly-legal means. Mostly.

21. The Summoner - gets treatment for his skin disease, remains an alcoholic. Turns his propensity to speak in Latin when drunk into "speaking in tongues" and runs a faith-healing ministry with the Pardoner.

22. The Pardoner - joins the Summoner in his ministry, using his "relics" as magical items that he claims will heal and bring prosperity - in exchange, of course, for donations. They learn about Gospel music, and sing duets enthusiastically, with great fervor and reasonable harmony. Maybe they even put out a couple of albums. Eventually they get caught in bed together, and melodramatically claim it was a trick of the devil. This may or may not end their career. (I don’t think either of them are honest enough to come right out and support gay rights, sadly.)

anyway going around a lot of art galleries this week has reminded me that i really want to write the joe/nicky fic where joe is a new tour guide at the art museum with an aspiration to end up as a curator once he’s done with grad school, and one day at the end of his shift he meets the hot security guard who sometimes does nights.

and then he hears rumours from his colleagues that this guy has… crackpot theories about the art??? joe is like uh ok but also he doesn’t like their tone or the fact that security guards are banned from talking to museum patrons about the art. he’s like, note that down as things to discuss once we finally get this union recognised.

anyway of course it turns out that the security guard, nicky, has three quarters of a PhD in religious art history and he’s been communing with the art a lot and chilling out with it at night. “art speaks in many different voices,” he likes to say, mysteriously. joe is like, wtf, please marry me.

yes it’s very loosely based on the article at the paris review blog about the unicorn tapestries, but can you blame me???

Seeing a lot of Goncharov content but only real 70s movie heads will know that Spanish director Pere Portabella was meant to be making a behind-the-scenes documentary of the film which turned into a whole other thing. It's called GOMORRA CALLS.

Scorsese is in it and so are his parents, for some reason. At first you're just like oh this is cute, they're bringing food to the set, taking an interest in what's going on. But it becomes this quite... Creepy reality-bending thing? His mother keeps cryptically referring to weird telephone calls they've been getting at home, and his dad keeps moving things on the set, you can only see what he's doing if you spend a lot of time watching him at the edge of the frame while someone else is talking. And sometimes they'll get to the set in the morning and find things left in the wrong place, there's a weird smear on a camera lenses, one of the actors has lost half the pages from the copy of the script they've been learning from.

I think the idea was meant to be that they're being hounded by the realfe mafia for making the movie. But it almost seems like they're being haunted by the ghosts of mafia members at times. Like, Scorsese's hotel room will be freezing cold, and he's being sent anonymous messages at the front desk in a way that just doesn't make sense. He says, "I'm not sure if someone is trying to stop this movie... Or if they just want to be part of it. If they want to look at a prop in the wrong place and just say, hey, that was me."

At the time of its limited run in the US, Scorsese said he didn't really know what Portabella was making, fueling theories that the film was true documentary and not fictionalised. But it's listed as fiction on Portabella's Wikipedia page now, and the prevaing theory is that it must be made up. It's not been included on any of the Goncharov DVD or Blu-Ray packages but it was supposed to be a Criterion Channel exclusive last year... It never showed up, and there are rumours it's to do with audio licensing issues. But there's a VHS rip floating around out there if you know where to look.

I felt terribly cold today, but I do not know why. My grandparents are leaving on Sunday after church and lunch. This makes me happy. It is not so lonely at home while they are here. With Julien gone at university, the quiet house is very depressing.

Tasks Completed:

Geometry - Reviewed similarity transformation, identifying single transformations and identifying composite transformations + practice + honors work

Lit and Comp II - Wrote down Unit 4 vocabulary + reviewed active voice + completed an activity on passive and active voice + read Chapter 21 of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

Spanish 2 - Reviewed vocabulary + listened to a story in Spanish + listened and repeated Spanish sentences

Bible I - Read Genesis 36-37

World History - Presented my presentation on Homer to my grandparents

Biology with Lab - Read about the intro to cells + answered review questions

Foundations - Read the definition of compassion + took a quiz on Read Theory + watched a video on how to take notes

Practice -Practiced assigned pieces for 30 minutes and worked on memorization

Oho!!! These are some good, juicy ones!! Here goes:

4. write a book with, read a book to, hit with a book

I would very definitely write a book with Marelas. As the First of clan Lavellan, the man is a scholar and firmly believes in the power of shared knowledge. He's got great work ethic and likes to dive deep into issues of his interest, which are mainly magic and histry. That's where he'll lose me; unlike him, I'm no expert in Thedosian history, nor elvhen history, nor magical theory and practice. But we could put together some neat side project for him where we try to bring a basic vist of magical theory to the average Thedosian to diminish the stigma against mages. I'd mostly act as a sounding board, putting my own ignorance to good use by making sure the text is entertaining and understandable to the reader. I think Marelas would love to get Sera on board for this, but I don't think he'd be able to. Or, maybe I can get Marelasinto writing novels. Y'know, as a relaxing hobby. He'd come back utterly at odds with the whole thing because the story got sad and suddenly it's not relaxing at all anymore! I think it's unlikely he'd get that far, tho. He's a busy man and would prefer to spend his free time otherwise.

I'll read a book to Ilanlas. He likes having something to listen to while he whittles away at his little figures and man, he's starved for positive interactions with people, so let's give him that. I really don't know what to read though. Something like fantasy might be the easiest thing, although it would be weird for him to see elves regarded so differently if I read, say, the Lord of the Rings. I kinda want to introduce him to all my childhood classics, Astrid Lindgren especially. I think he would enjoy her stories even though they would obviously be intended for younger people. And I kinda want to try the Percy Jackson series for him, although there'd be a lot of reference to greek mythology that'd fly right over his head (and a lot of modern stuff I'd have to explain, but most of it wouldn't be terribly plot relevant). Or I might try something entirely new; I have the feeling that the stories I like don't deal with the kind of emotions and problems he deals with on the regular

And I'm... yeah. I want to share a book with Astala too. Alas, hers is the lot to get hit by a book. Softly. Bonked more than hit. It'd be a paperback and done all as a nice joke and then she'd get to bonk me back. And maybe then I can read to her as well, yes? I think she'd like The Hobbit, or Howl's Moving Castle, and I think she'd enjoy it if I did character voices

7. go to a wedding with, go to a party with, go to a museum with

This one. This one is complicated XD XD XD

I'll take Astala to the wedding. She'd have a blast. She'd get to meet friends of mine and/or family, which she'll be delighted by, she'd love the food, love the armosphere, love the dancing and be all eyes at what our weddings look like. I am counting on the hope that all of that will be enough to keep away bad memories of her own almost wedding. If not, well... I'll be there to help.

I'm taking Marelas partying. Poor man. I would have liked to take Astala, but she's too much of a party animal for me when given the chance. The good thing is that Marelas and I have similar dispositions when it comes to parties: they can be fun when there are friends of yours, dancing can be nice, drinks are to be enjoyed in moderation if at all, and we'll go to sleep at a reasonable hour. I think I could get him to dance a bit. I can definitely get him to dance if we can bring Dorian along. We'd end up in a corner of the room talking best we could over the music, head out for fresh air periodically and then head home. It would be nice! And I can count on him to not get past a little tipsy.

And I'm taking Ilanlas to a museum. This might not seem up his alley that much, but. We'll go to one of those very interactive ones, where you can pull levers and look how sediment shifts with the water and stuff like that. It would be something about natural sciences, maybe evolutionary theory, dinosaurs and stuff. God, he'd love dinosaurs. Maybe Stone Age. "This is what life must have been like for us before June taught us our crafts," he says. I think he'd enjoy himself XD XD XD
