I didn't feel like writing an entire story, as I'm already doing that for NaNoWriMo. However, I did want to give you a case of the feels as I'm currently having a lot of them and it wouldn't be fair if I didn't share. So, if you will, read this. Then come yell at me.
- It took Hermione Granger a good three years before she dared lay eyes on Narcissa Malfoy after the war. Harry had invited her several times, but she just couldn't do it. There was too much anger, hurt and sadness. When she finally does accept Harry's invite, it's to join them for tea at Malfoy manor.
- It's weird to see a little one-year old boy running around, with bright blonde hair, being chased by a woman who single-handedly ended the war by telling a simple lie. Or perhaps it was the most complicated lie of all. The lie of a mother protecting a child who wasn't hers. A mother who would do anything to safe her own son. Lies. Narcissa Malfoy was surrounded by lies. But little Scorpius didn't know that and as she watched Narcissa scoop him up in the air, she hoped he never would.
- The word is still carved in her arm. It's nothing like Harry's scar, other than it being a constant reminder that there are still people out there who view her as lesser than others. A minority in a world full of powerful wizards. She doesn't believe it, has worked to accept that she is a bright witch. Still. The scar is there, in all its anger and sometimes she lets the anger consume her until Harry hugs her back to the light.
- Narcissa tries. She tries with kind words, gentle touches on her shoulder as she comes back to the manor once a month. She tries by extending a hand and Hermione feels like a traitor when she accepts it. Narcissa's slender fingers trace over the scar and she shakes her head. "I'm so sorry, Miss Granger," falls from her lips and Hermione can't stop the tear that slides down her cheek.
- Tea gatherings turn into dinners. Angry words are exchanged at the table and when Draco pulls her aside and gives her a piece of his mind, she bursts into tears and goes home. He is right, of course he is, but things are more complicated than that. She feels hurt and curls up in bed for three days straight. Narcissa is never far from her mind and she doesn't understand why.
- Narcissa has a beautiful smile. It radiates with kindness and sometimes - when her features turn dark - she can understand why no one dares speak up to the woman. Narcissa is a powerhouse. A mother. A grandmother. Family means the world to her, and Hermione's heart hurts when she thinks of her parents who are still in Australia, unaware they have a daughter who wants nothing but to bring them home. It would be selfish, though. So, her parents stay in Australia and Hermione tries not to think about them.
- It's not hard to see how Draco was just as much a pawn in the war as they were. Draco is kind, a good husband and a good father. They share similar interests and when she laughs at one of his jokes, she catches the surprised look on Narcissa's face. It's important for Hermione that Narcissa knows she is not trying to steal Draco away from his wife, so she befriends Astoria too. It isn't hard.
- Scorpius is sitting on her lap, as if she's family, as if she's an aunt he loves. His tiny hand grabs at her curls and she tickles him until he begs her to stop because his tummy hurts too much. He rests his head on her shoulder and she wonders if this is what it feels like to be a mother. She wants to protect Scorpius from all harm, hopes he never has to fight in a war like she had to and if he does, that he'll be on the right side of it.
- Lucius remains to be someone who she doesn't like. He scoffs every time he comes across her. Whispers words when no one else is around and she can't for a second phantom why on earth Narcissa remains his wife. She deserves so much better than him. That revelation hits her like a truck and the next time she makes eye contact with Narcissa, she blushed furiously.
- Narcissa is in her dreams. Narcissa isn't wearing any clothes and neither is she. Her touch brings gasps to Hermione and when she wakes up, it takes all her willpower not to bring herself to an orgasm while fantasizing about Narcissa.
- They hug now. When she enters the manor, Narcissa's arms engulf her and there's nothing but warmth that wraps around her. It feels nice. Safe. She never wants it to end. But it does, and it makes her sad. Still, when it's time to leave she gets another hug and she tries not to inhale the scent of Narcissa. She fails.
- She has a major crush on Narcissa. That much is obvious. Narcissa is blissfully unaware and perhaps it's for the best. Narcissa talks a million miles an hour and Hermione soaks up every word, stores them in her brain and replays the words late at night when she hugs her pillow tight to her.
- Narcissa's hands are in Hermione's hair. Playing, tugging gently. Sweet words are whispered into her ear and it's getting harder to distinguish dreams from reality.
- Harry is either the biggest idiot in the world or he knows something she doesn't want him to know when he sets her up with a friend of him. They go on a date. It ends horribly with her knee in his crotch. She cries because she doesn't know what's wrong with her. As soon as she's home, settled on the couch with a cup of tea in her hands, there's a soft knock on her door. When she opens it, Narcissa stands there with a worried look on her face. That night Hermione sleeps in her arms, completely platonically and for now, it's all Hermione needs.
- Hermione invites Narcissa to movies in the muggle word. It's both hilarious and a little sad that Narcissa has missed out on all the muggle technology. She shows her all the classics, and as the months pass, Hermione's crush grows into full blown love. She doesn't even dare to tell Narcissa. How could someone as gorgeous as Narcissa ever fall in love with a simple mudblood?
- It gets harder not to tell Narcissa. There are some self-esteem issues. Narcissa watches it from a distance until she can no longer take it. She grabs Hermione by the hand, pulls up her sleeve and tells her that the word edged into her skin does not define her. How beautiful she is, how smart she is, what a kind heart she has and how one day someone will love her for all those qualities and that her blood status should never be in the equation. She soothes all of Hermione's fears until in a moment of pure adoration, Hermione presses her lips against Narcissa.
- Narcissa lets her down gently. Accepts the apology easily. Tells her it's okay. But that she loves her husband and won't abandon him. That she loves Hermione, but she isn't in love with her. She gives Hermione hugs and strokes her hair until Hermione falls asleep on the couch. She covers her up with a blanket and quietly slips out of the house.
- Later in the evening when Hermione lays in bed and cries until she no longer can, she thinks that love really is the cruelest mistress of all. That night her dreams are filled with loving touches, whispered words and forehead kisses. When she wakes, despite being alone, wonders whether any of it was real, there are suspicious marks all over her body. She can't tell dreams from reality. But for one night, she felt utterly loved and perhaps... that's enough.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Saturday 11th August, 2018
I’d call this a recap but it’s going to read like a love letter to this cast and in particular, Joe. You see, Albus has always been my favourite. I’m so emotionally attached and invested in this character that I panic every time a new actor comes in to play him. This isn’t just a character I like, he’s a kindred spirit I need in my life. I’m in too deep. My biggest fear is that there will be an Albus I can’t connect with and although Joe is the fourth Albus I’ve seen now and this has yet to happen, that fear still lingers. So I’ve been taking my time and just watching and learning who his Albus is and you know what? Good things come to those who wait because now, especially after today, I’m at a place where I can say he’s become one of my favourites to watch on stage. He completely pulled my focus for the entire show today. Which is really saying something when next to him you have Jonathan doing that smile he does. You know, the one that looks like it can cure cancer and bring about world peace? Anyway, my point being, Scorpius has always been distracting for us as an audience. That character is suppose to pull on our heartstrings that way. Albus always has to work a little harder to get that reaction. (Although I do appreciate the irony of people not seeing who he is. Life imitating art and all.) Yet each Albus has been quite distinctive. Each one different from the last but still inherently the same character. To me, Sam’s Albus was defensive and impulsive, Theo’s Albus was open with his vulnerability but found hope and determination in his despair, and Joe’s Albus is resigned to his lot in life. He accepts every hit but continues on in spite of them. There’s quiet sort of maturity about him. His shield is his humour, not his actions or words. It’s such an interesting take on the character and it’s one I don’t think I could ever tire of watching.
Act One, Scene Three
After Albus and Rose had decided to check out the compartments, Albus started to walk in the opposite direction to her and began peering down the ‘corridor’ of the carriage. He ended up in front of Scorpius’s compartment but he didn’t look in straight away, he just sort of lingered outside. He was completely unaware that Scorpius was watching him the whole time with this look of recognition and awe on his face. He knew who Albus was and couldn’t look away. On stage there’s no walls or doors that show us the Hogwarts Express, yet I’ve never felt that sliding glass door separating them in this moment more clearly than I did today. It was such a heart stopping, delicate moment. There was a stillness about it. Being able to see their two worlds so separately before they become entangled. You had Albus looking at all these compartments but it’s the one right in front of him that’ll change his life. The very thing he’s scared of will make him stronger. While Scorpius is alone in that compartment, still safe in the bubble his family have kept him in for years. We could only watch and wait. Then Albus looks and makes the decision almost instantly and as Albus steps in that compartment, into his bubble, Scorpius’s world changes too. You could feel the excitement rolling off Scorpius once he started talking to Albus and Rose. This is the boy who knows his history and has dreamt of having friends like Harry Potter. Then suddenly he finds a Granger, a Weasley, and a Potter standing in front of him. I think Hogwarts became very real to him in that moment. All the stories he’s read and now he’s living it. This is quite literally the dream. Except of course they reject him. He sat down and turned his back to the door to avoid having to watch them leave him behind. But then Albus says he’s staying and Scorpius was not expecting that. You could see the internal panic as he visibly breathed in and out to calm himself. Partly out of shock, probably mostly out of nervousness. His thank you was precious. He truly meant that. Which is why I think Albus really goes out of his way to make sure Scorpius knows he’s teasing him about only staying for his sweets. That reaction (“I didn’t stay for you”) is so Albus. You know how I said before about Joe’s Albus using his humour? I think this is a great example of that. I’m sure Albus is just as nervous as Scorpius in this moment. So he’s instinctively fallen back on his dry humour. But then he looked at Scorpius and sang, ‘I stayed for your sweeeets’, making Scorpius relax almost instantly. For a lack of a better word, it’s really sweet. They’ve known each other for a matter of minutes at this point and already they’re giving each other what they need. Reassurance and a clean slate. Albus needs someone to look past his family name just as much as Scorpius does.
Act One, Scene Four
As soon as Albus walked up to the Sorting Hat and stood there all happy and smiley, like he knew he’d got this, I knew this was going to be a good scene. Why? Because it made me realise this Albus doesn’t know yet. He’s got a good relationship with his dad, he’s nervous about school but he’s ‘ready’, he’s already made a friend, and now the Hat is going to listen to him just like his dad said it would. Nothing to worry about! But then that one word brings his whole world crashing down around him. Slytherin. There must be so much running through his head in that moment. Everything has changed. The future he’d expected is now unknown. Yet the worst part? His dad lied. The Sorting Hat hadn’t listened to him. (Although I’d argue it did, but you know, to Albus in this moment it felt like it hadn’t. Little did he know that house is exactly where he belongs and needs to be.) The look on his face tells you that much. This was not the answer he was expecting or on some level, hoping for. Then Scorpius’s voice cuts through the noise and Albus turned towards him. He then looked up at the Slytherin banner hanging above him before walking towards Scorpius, accepting his fate. I think for Albus, this was the first of many cases of ‘works for Harry Potter but not Albus Potter’ at Hogwarts. It’s what slowly crushes him over time. That feeling of not being good enough. For the Hat, for the other kids, and for his family.
“And be my good friend” – Albus’s face broke my heart today. He looked so heavy hearted and somewhat shocked by Scorpius’s words here. His good friend? Isn’t he already a good friend? Why is Scorpius even asking that? Albus reached out for him as the scene ended after this line and he still looked at a loss over his friend. It also made me think about the argument later on in the library. Albus is always floored and then completely guilt ridden over Scorpius’s accusations and evidence of him being an awful friend. It’s an interesting contrast with Joe’s Albus and other interpretations. I’ve seen others take that phrase and agree without a second thought because it goes without saying. It never occurs to them that Scorpius would think anything different of him. That he’d have to ask for that. Is he failing at this too?
Act One, Scene Six
“Meet the once great Harry Potter, now a stone cold Minister man” – As Amos is speaking, Delphi and Harry always shake hands. It’s not a big moment, they’re both just being polite and humouring Amos. It’s what happens afterwards that’s interesting. So Harry looks down at his hand after she’s gone. He doesn’t know why, it’s an instinct thing. Sometimes he’ll shake it or flex his fingers. Just something so small, a detail easily missed and overlooked, but there and a sign if you know. It’s great. But anyway, that’s not what had me on the edge of my seat. I don’t know if Eve always does this and I’ve only just noticed, but after she shook his hand, she slowly and subconsciously reached back for her wand with this look in her eye as she stared at Harry while he was focused on Amos. Then just as her hand was there, she seemed to snap out of it. Years she’s been watching and planning and her instincts nearly made her throw it all away. It was super interesting! It gave me a fascinating insight in her Delphi, and Delphi in general. It definitely made me pay more attention to her smaller movements for the rest of the show. Like how visibly relieved she was when Amos backed down in St. Oswalds. It makes me wonder whether that’s part of her mask, or her mask slipping. I ended up watching the show with that in mind and made me realise just how young she is. The disorganised, frantic, and repetitive words scribbled across the walls of her room (there’s a panel that just has the word ‘father’ written over and over again in her disjointed, pointy, jagged handwriting) now felt childish. I felt her age and isolation in them. They became less ‘writings of a mad man obsessed’ and more ‘rages of a hurting, angry soul’. If that makes any sense. Don’t get me wrong, she’s dangerous, I guess what I’m trying to say is that I could see more clear than ever that part of her that desperately wants her father. It drives her like it does Albus and Scorpius. (Although all three take completely different roads in terms of handling it, obviously.) That’s why she can manipulate them so easily in that respect. She understands. I know this is all level one of understanding the characters/plot. I don’t think I’m explaining it very well. I think what I’m trying to say is that Eve made me think about Delphi more than I have before. I like the idea of her slipping. That one little action created ripples, and I’ve been intrigued by it ever since.
Act One, Scene Seven
Ginny and Albus sharing a smile at the very beginning of this scene still warms my heart. I really love the openness of their relationship. They may not say anything to each other in words here but they communicate quite easily. It’s practiced and heartfelt.
I think it’s great how relaxed and at home Joe’s Albus feels in his bedroom. He’s lying down and one of the most chilled out Albus’s I’ve seen in terms of being comfortable with his family repeating invading his space. Probably because he doesn’t see it as that I guess… I loved Dylan’s James bragging about the cloak. The emphasis on the ‘my’ as he pointed to himself really rubbing salt in the wound. Except Albus is lying on his back and mocking him once he’d left, imitating him by mouthing back his mouths and his pointing. He then started to sit up to help Lily look for her book but once his mum took over he carried on lying down. Joe’s Albus feels less like an outsider to his family. His issue is a communication one with his dad specifically. Which is interesting, and leads me into my next point, that Tom’s Harry and Joe’s Albus really worked well with this in mind.
(Did I mention that Tom Peters was on as Harry today? I haven’t seen him before but he was barely half way through his first scene and I already knew he was going to be brilliant. He’s someone I would definitely go out of my way to see again.)
Joe’s Albus and Tom’s Harry were so different to how Joe plays against Jamie’s Harry. Or any Albus and Harry in fact. It was in scenes like this that you could really see it. Now I’ll admit my favourite versions of this scene are always the angriest ones. The ones where they shout, get all up in each other’s faces, and even hit the other with blanket). To me, the aggression made those ugly words make sense. They’re not thinking, they’re feeling. Too much. They’re both explosive when pushed so of course when that’s aimed at each other it’s going to be a catastrophic. But then today happened. The whole scene felt different, less volatile. Albus seemed more open with this Harry. He was lying down on his bed but then sat up when Harry walked into his room. Then Albus shuffled further away as Harry got closer and Harry stopped, mid speech and in his tracks. Albus realises what that movement must have looked like so he patted the space next to him on his bed and encouraged his dad to sit down next to him. He was simply making space, not trying to put distance between them. Harry continued talking and then at some point Albus brought his legs up onto the bed and sat cross legged, with his back against his pillow, so he could face his dad. By this point I was on the edge of my seat because I don’t feel like I’ve ever seen this dynamic before. This Albus was still giving his dad a chance, and this Harry was really trying. So it felt uneven worse when it fell apart. It was less explosive but hurt just the same. Albus’s resigned face said it all. Those words didn’t cut him down the way they have other Albus’s because they’re words he already believes. He’s a disappointment. It makes sense. Just like fairy wings makes sense and invisibility cloaks make sense.
Act Two, Scene Six
So ‘Hide and Seek’ is playing in this scene and right at the beginning, even though it’s the instrumental version, you hear the words ‘hide and seek’ sung as the two boys walk forwards out of the shadows and towards the light, towards Hogwarts. My head connected the two and all I could see was Albus lagging behind, looking to the left of him into the depths of the forest, while Scorpius proceeded on forwards, looking up in awe at the castle until he was bathed in the same warm light. Hide and seek. A random observation I know, but I like their differences as much as I do their similarities and the music is in show is beautiful. I should definitely talk about it more.
Act Three, Scene Seven
What struck me here was Scorpius’s happiness. He was noticeably excited to be there with Hermione and Ron. I can’t help but imagine a younger Scorpius reading all about the trio and wanting his own adventure. Now he’s here, with Hermione and Ron, and they’re doing something completely wild. These aren’t just stories anymore, he’s in one. I bet he gets a tingle. If not over that, then maybe the fact that if he’s with Hermione and Ron and surely that makes him Harry in this scenario? I’m sure that hits him later on. He’s too much of a nerd not to. (Although I’m sure part of his happiness is relief. Those two are familiar faces and he has a way of fixing things now. But thinking about Scorpius’s geeking out is way more fun.)
Act Three, Scene Nine
So while Scorpius was doing his whole ‘It’s Haaaarry Potterrrr’ thing, Albus looked round at his mum and pulled this ‘I don’t know this lunatic, I played no part in these antics’ face. I love that Albus clearly loves Scorpius, weirdness and all, but I also love that he sometimes pretends he’s judging him for it. Or maybe he is. But it comes from a place of love. The way only true, long lasting friendships can. Your best friend is judging you, but they’re allowed to because you both know they’re just as bad.
Act Three, Scene Ten
“I agree it doesn’t sound good” - What I really loved about this scene was Albus and Scorpius’s interactions. I’ve seen previous Albus and Scorpius’s share looks as McGonagall speaks but these two went beyond that. Scorpius in particular was talking/mouthing something to Albus after he spoke. I really love all these additional interactions. It reads so much like a four year long friendship should. They have that connection that makes them sometimes forget there’s other people in the room.
Act Three, Scene Eleven
“Are you okay, Albus?” “No” “No. Nor me.” - These lines really hit home today. I felt them in a completely new way I’ve never thought about before. So Joe’s Albus is opening up to his dad here. He’s trying. His dad asking him if he’s okay means something to Albus because he responds honestly. No, he isn’t. What broke me today was how Harry’s own honesty back may have been taken. I felt like Albus started to believe they were connecting with this conversation. That his dad was finally listening to him and they were openly talking about the things that matter. But then Harry turns the conversation back onto himself (’Nor me’) and Albus breaks. Ginny is right, Albus does want him to be honest with him, but in this moment? I think he just needs his dad to listen. This look flashed across Joe’s face, of disappointed and hurt, and then he just walked off. He wanted his dad to hear that he’s not okay and do something about it, not just have him tell him he’s not okay either. It’s easy to forget that he’s simply just a child reaching out for his parent. I know people find it comforting to know they’re not alone in their pain, but I think here Albus feels like it trivialises his own. It didn’t surprise me to see Joe’s Albus looking more upset here than he did after their argument in his bedroom. That comment before was something he’d half suspected anyway, but to have Harry still overlooking him even now really hurts him. Meanwhile Harry was left sat on the suitcase at the end of Albus’s bed and staring off into space. Harry was so wrapped up in Harry (and the loss at what to do) that he fails to see Albus. Again. Quite literally too. He didn’t look at Albus for those last lines and I don’t think that helped Albus’s thought process.
Act Three, Scene Fourteen
“Do you think I’ve been tested too? I have, haven’t I?” - Another line which left a new impression on me. I think there’s a couple of ways to interpret its meaning but today I really felt Albus’s resounding disappointment. He isn’t asking if he’s been tested because he doesn’t want to feel left out or as a way of making sense of their adventure, it was said as if he’d already accepted he had failed. This was just another failure in a long list for Albus. You could hear it in his despondent tone.
Act Three, Scene Sixteen
I absolutely adore Albus and Scorpius’s interactions here. They shuffle in closer and face each other as they talk animatedly while the scene sets up around them. It’s like they’re in this bubble and are completely unaware as the world/stage moves around them. It portrays their relationship beautifully. You really feel the history and depth of their friendship in these moments.
“Let’s do something new, something fun” - I love, love, love, love that Albus’s idea of something ‘fun’ was to drop it off the owlery. He just sort of looked around and then stretched his arm out over the side with the Time-Turner in his hand. It’s so reckless and instinctive and you know what really intrigues me? It requires zero magic. I wonder whether that’s a conscious decision...
Back to Delphi again. I just want to add that I find her one of the most sinister Delphi’s I’ve seen. I think that’s why I’m so interested in where that comes from. This child, hidden from the wizarding world but the focus of rumours. The scary parallel with Scorpius probably isn’t lost on her. She hates Scorpius. Eve makes that blatantly obvious on stage. She’s spiteful at every given opportunity. Even right in front of Albus. It’s a fine line but it’s like she can’t help herself. I wonder if it’s because of his family and their deflection, or if it’s something more petty, like everyone believing him to be the son of Voldemort. This is what I meant before when I was trying (and probably failing) to explain what I meant by seeing her youth. It’s not about her literal age, but her approach to things. She’s focused yet reckless at times. It makes a terrifying, vicious combination. She’s definitely more like her mother than her father in that respect. With previous Delphi’s, I’ve seen her here still be quite playful and innocent with the boys. The act doesn’t drop until that very last second. But with Eve, I could see her slowing slipping. The point where she’s telling them about augureys, she was glaring down at Scorpius with this look on her face that told me she knew he was making the connections in his head, and she wasn’t scared or nervous, but enjoying it. She wants him to give her a reason to end this charade. She’s enjoyed playing with them, but she wants her goal. Now.
Act Three, Scene Nineteen
“Craig. Get away. Get help!” – Albus is bound on the floor and at the mercy of Delphi and yet his first words were to try and save Craig. I just wanted to highlight this before I make my next point. (I will fight anyone who tells me this boy doesn’t have the loveliest heart.)
“Avada Kedavra!” – Albus looked away as her words rang out. He couldn’t bring himself to look at Craig. He knows their meaning, he sees that flash of green. He knows, and he’s broken by it. The way she said the word ‘spare’ a few lines later really looked like they cut into him. He tried to save a spare, both Cedric and himself, but instead he’s created a whole new one. It wasn’t until the very end of this scene, when Delphi stands in front of his body with the Time-Turner in her hands that he finally looks. He was stood next to her and he looked over his shoulder at Craig’s body on the ground before looking back and finally placing his hands on the Time-Turner. It was such a heartbreaking moment. It was slow and felt fragile. Like he couldn’t leave, not without acknowledging what he’s done first. It added even more weight to his line (“what she did to Craig…”) a few scenes later.
Act Four, Scene Three
“The Bathilda Bagshot?” – Albus nerding out over Bathilda is everything. He went up and slightly stroked the door, and then ran away when it opened. His ‘acting casual’ as she walked past him afterwards was atrocious. The boy has no chill, and he calls Scorpius out for this! Bless.
Act Four, Scene Eight
The ‘Made Leanne Cry’ Award today goes to… James Howard! (He always looks far too happy every time I tell him.) So, background context. Although he didn’t do it today, Joe’s Albus has been running over to Scorpius during Act Four, Scene Three during his geek out over Bathilda. He focuses him and gets him to breathe in and out in time with him. It’s really sweet and a true testament to their relationship. Acknowledging your anxiety and panic attacks with someone and then letting that person not only see you but help you in your weakest moments speaks volumes as to how much Albus means to Scorpius. While I know that moment on stage is by no means a full blown panic attack, it’s just Scorpius freaking out so much he forgets breathe, I love that Albus recognises the signs instantly and stops his own geeking out to help him. We know they’re that close but to see it in such a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ moment says how these actions aren’t even a big deal to them. They will help and protect and save each other without question and move on with their day. I’m completely digressing now but that’s why I love Joe and Jonathan’s Albus and Scorpius so much. Their portrayal of the friendship is subtle but everywhere and so rich. Anyway, back to James Howard. So after they had all been reunited and hugged it out, Scorpius was trying to process how they’d got there and talk to them about Delphi and of course he started to stumble with his words and Draco, just like Albus, focuses him and makes a point to take a long, deep breath in and out as a way of telling him to do the same. It broke me. Jonathan is consciously playing Scorpius with these panic attacks in mind. It’s who his Scorpius is. I’ve always personally imagined Scorpius having these kind of issues so that in itself is nothing new, but I thought it was something he would probably keep hidden from his dad. So seeing that Draco was one hundred percent aware and knew exactly how to help him was unexpected but so completely welcomed. They may be having some communication issues but Scorpius needs his dad just as much as Draco needs him. I don’t know if it’s because it’s just the two of them but I feel their desperation and reliance on each other so much more than I do with Harry and Albus. Their relationship is so intense in those scenes once they’re back together it leaves you knowing without a doubt that they work through their issues.
One last point on this. I really love that Scorpius has the unwavering support of the two people in his life he needs the most. The fact that he doesn’t have to hide it from either of them and that they both play yet another role in his life, an important one too, really warms my heart. I’m glad Scorpius has this. That feeling when you can’t breathe and the moment when your vision falters and you can’t focus properly on the sounds around you, only the feeling of your chest as its about to burst, it feels life threatening and terrifyingly endless. Yet he gives them the power to pull him out of that. To be the light in the darkness. It speaks of so much trust and love. Again, it’s another ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ moment but it gave you such an incredible insight into Scorpius and his relationship with his dad. This cast are exceptional at providing these little moments. Look out for them!
Act Four, Scene Nine
This is going to seem like a really weird note to make but between scene nine and ten, they kind of lower the lights and the actors do this thing where they slowly move into place before snapping into the scene as the music and lights do. (It shows movement of time and I love it.) Anyway, sometimes the actors do things in character during this slow motion bit that make my heart burst. Like, Samuel’s Scorpius would do this little wave at Albus because they had just been separated while Albus slept and Scorpius was, presumably, hanging out with his dad. Anthony’s Scorpius would tuck his hair behind his ear. And, like father like son, Alex’s Draco once smoothed his hair down as he walked through the door. All these tiny actions brought me such joy. Is that weird? Anyway, Joe joined the club today by waking up during this part and doing this big yawn. I think I giggled. It’s so Albus-y. I love it. That boy’s relationship with sleep reads like a love story. He’s such a teenage boy.
Act Four, Scene Ten
“Draco, trust my dad. He won’t let us down.” – Two things about this scene. One, the look on Scorpius’s face as he looks between Albus and Draco is priceless. He’s on the edge of his seat (literally), not knowing what his dad will do after being spoken to like that. I think there’s also a little bit of awe in there? Albus speaking to his dad without fear means something when your dad is Draco Malfoy. Making friends isn’t easy when your family has that reputation. The fact it doesn’t phase Albus isn’t lost on Scorpius. (Although personally I do like to think they already sort of know each other. They’ve been best friends for four years, there’s no way they haven’t met each others parents yet. And I’ll fight anyone who doesn’t believe Albus met Astoria. You think a mother who knows she has years left not decades wouldn’t go out of her way to meet her son’s only friend?) Anyway, Draco doesn’t say anything back but his fingers were working overtime.
(To explain that last comment for those of you who haven’t read many of my recaps before, James’s Draco does this thing where he rubs this thumb and forefinger together, going round and round in frantic circles, whenever he’s stressed or anxious or angry for some reason or another. I think it’s a form of control for him? Like he’s channeled all that energy down into his fingers so it’s manageable. I’ve always been a big fan of this but now that we have Jonathan who’s emphasising Scorpius’s own anxiety, it’s added a whole new layer to it. Maybe that’s why he opened up to his dad or maybe how Draco spotted the signs. I really like the idea of these two helping each other out that way.)
And secondly, once Draco decides not to contest the plan anymore he pulls Scorpius (and sort of herds Albus) over towards the back of the church and behind him while he helps transfigure Harry. Today, once Draco had turned round and was facing away from the boys, Albus turned to Scorpius and pulled this face which can only be described as the grimace emoji. That kind of ‘eek! I can’t believe I just did that!’ face. It was great. He seemed so confident in the moment but obviously inside and afterwards he was not so chilled.
When Harry has transfigured into Voldemort, he turns round and faces everyone in the church. The reactions are what you’d expect. From Ron’s ‘bloody hell’ to the memories and fear cursing through Draco leaving him looking rather drained. But nestled behind the adults and peering through are Albus and Scorpius. I couldn’t see Scorpius that well but Albus’s face was loud and clear. His face hardened as he looked at ‘Voldemort’. It was unexpected but the more I think about it, it’s really not. For a boy with confidence issues he does have a tendency to tackle things head on. Visually though, it made such an interesting mix of reactions!
Act Four, Scene Eleven
“Alohomora!” - Joe’s Albus does this thing with his wand every time before he uses it. He holds out his arm and then wipes it on his sleeve quickly a couple of times. I love it because it’s a quirky Albus thing. But it also makes me a little bit sad when I think why he might be doing that. Because to me it reads like he’s doing it because he doesn’t believe in himself. He doesn’t trust his wand or his magic not to fail him. So maybe he’s cleaning it? Hoping by polishing it, it will somehow make it work better? Maybe he did it once and then he managed to successfully cast something and now he thinks he has to do it every time. Or maybe it’s just a ‘thing’ but you know me, I like to read into everything and make it angsty. It definitely feels like it’s something to do with his temperamental relationship with magic. Albus isn’t a Squib or bad at magic, it’s a self esteem issue that hinders his ability. The more pressure he puts on himself, the more it falters. The second he convinces himself he’s going to fail, he does. Back in the wand dance (Act One, Scene Four), Albus pulled this face as he held up his wand that clearly told us he knew this wouldn’t work but hey, he was going to have a go anyway. Of course then when he doesn’t work he’s proved himself right. Jump forward to this scene and what’s interesting here is that in this moment failure is not an option, and it’s in moments like this when there’s no time for doubt that Albus always succeeds. (For example, the cushioning charm as he jumps off the train.) Yet Albus still stopped here to swipe his wand across his sleeve before he cast. He’s exposed and there’s lethal spells flying all around and he still stops! I wonder if whether it’s a case of that seed of doubt being so ingrained in him that he still has to do it, or if it was done subconsciously out of habit, or even because he knows he can’t fail and does it to (in his mind) make sure he doesn’t fail.
On a personal note, as someone who’s struggled with OCD for the past fifteen or so years, that connection with cleaning and something working right isn’t lost on me. I’m not saying that’s what it’s about, or that act is a compulsion for Albus, but it could so easily be because that need to clean isn’t always about cleanliness. It’s sometimes just the act itself. It’s your brain telling you that you have to do this process otherwise something bad with happen. Sometimes you’re not even aware, you subconsciously do it with little thought. Other times it chips away at you until you break. Or worse, those times when you do it with no resistance because you’re convinced those voices in your head are right. This thing will work if only you do this process first. I’ve never really thought about what it would be like for a wizard with OCD before but there’s no way it wouldn’t affect their magic. Especially if it was in relation to their wand. Again, I’m not saying that’s what it is, but if it was then I could understand Albus not wanting to fight it in that moment.
You know what? It almost reminds me of Scorpius’s wand too and how Anthony felt the carvings on it were a kind of self harm born from Scorpius’s grief. Magic is so greatly affected by your emotions and both Albus and Scorpius have to deal that. They both do it in different ways but what’s interesting is that, in theory, they’ve both focused all that negative attention onto their wands. This physical extension of their magic. I might be completely wrong here but it definitely makes for an interesting line of thought...
Act Four, Scene Fifteen
“I’m going into pigeon racing. I’m quite excited about it.” - Another Joe thing that I loved! When he said this line he leaned into his dad and pointed upwards as if pointing out a pigeon in a nearby tree. Sadly, Harry didn’t look so he never reacted to it but Albus was having a great time teasing his dad. What a beautiful way to end the show. I love their mutual hug afterwards of course, that always feels like a conclusion. But seeing where their relationship was and where it’ll be again was something we need even more than that.
Trying to summarise this show in a few sentences is impossible. I’ve just written six thousand words on something I’ve been watching over and over again for two years now and I could still easily say more. That’s what I love about this play. You can’t see and know and understand it all. No one ever will. Every cast and every show gives you something new. I sat there today and I’m still in awe of the beauty of this story and its translation onto the stage. I tell people that this is my favourite instalment of the Harry Potter series and they’re baffled by that. I love the books and using my imagination because yes, even though it’s happening inside my head ‘why on earth should that mean that it is not real’? And as much as that is true, this play brings me out of my head in that sense. It makes it real in a way a movie can’t. I’m there at Hogwarts with Harry and better than that, I get to share the experience with others. Imagination is great but it’s so personal. No one’s Hogwarts in their head is going to be the same as anyone else’s. You’re always going to be alone in that sense. But there in the Palace Theatre I’m not. We’re all watching the same thing. It’s that Scorpius feeling of realising you’re not reading about this adventure, you’re part of it.
I think because I purposely distanced myself from fandom until Cursed Child, I never felt that inclusion of the wizarding world that way. Fandoms can be so destructive but here I’ve found a community of kind and passionate people (fans and actors alike) that has been so welcoming. It’s what Hogwarts should be. Every new cast feels like a new term, and each show feels like a lesson. You live, you laugh, you learn, and I come away feeling a little bit more connected to this world that I’ve loved since I was a child. My family often ask when I’m going to grow up and give up on Harry Potter and it confuses me every time. You don’t outgrow Harry Potter, you grow with it. I found myself in the teenage version of these characters and I still see myself in the adult versions now. They’re real to me, to a lot of us, and getting cast after cast who understand that is what makes this show what it is. Their skills as actors are of course phenomenal, but it’s the heart and energy they put into every show that makes it magical. That doesn’t come from acting lessons or theatre experience, it’s a feeling you just have if you’ve grown up with the books. It stays with you and inspires you.

What You Desire Most
Summary: With the youngest of their children now at Hogwarts, Harry and Ginny are looking forward to some time alone. Harry finds himself in an unexpected new relationship that threatens to tear apart everything they've built since the war.
Chapter 1: A Serpent in King’s Cross
Word count: 1,473
A/N: I've been reading fic for over 10 years and finally convinced myself that I could write it too. I'm looking forward to flexing my creativity and developing my characters and this story. I don't know if anyone will read this, but, if you do, I'd love to hear your feedback. This is currently a work in progress and I'll continue posting as it's written, so if you enjoy it pls come back for more!
Currently posted on AO3 and FF.net if you’d rather follow there.
Harry startled awake in a cold sweat, the rushing sound of Avada Kedavra still ringing in his ears. His hand instinctively made its way to his forehead, touching the scar that hadn’t ached in nearly 20 years. He rubbed his eyes as his cluttered office in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement came into focus. Or at least as much focus as he could manage before he finally managed to feel out his glasses, hidden beneath a stack of papers he had managed to knock over as he bolted upright in his chair.
He knew his promotion to Head of the Department would be a lot of responsibility, but he couldn’t remember anyone telling him that he would nearly forget what it felt like to sleep in his own bed. He took a sip of tea and immediately spat it back out. It was cold and bitter, which was not surprising considering he had poured it nearly 5 hours earlier. His head pounded as he looked up to see the clock on the wall chime three o’clock.
These days, it was hard to tell the difference between his near daily headaches and the once familiar twinge of his connection to Voldemort. He repeated his usual mantra to himself as he waved his wand and the papers on his desk rearranged themselves back into a neat stack: “He’s dead. You killed him. It’s done.” But some memories were harder to shake than others.
Harry glanced down at the only 2 pictures on his desk. Next to his mother and father, he saw himself with Ginny, James, Albus, Lily, and Teddy, all smiles and laughing. He groaned as he stood up and pulled on his traveling cloak, feeling around in the pocket for a few crumbs of floo powder. The Hogwarts Express left at precisely 11 o’clock, and he was determined to get at least a couple hours of proper sleep before it was time to make the journey to King’s Cross.
Harry’s eyes strained against the pitch black darkness of his and Ginny’s bedroom. He clumsily slipped off his robes and climbed into bed, focusing on the sound of Ginny’s breathing as he quickly drifted back to sleep. It felt like mere minutes had passed when Ginny awoke him by opening the curtains, daylight harshly filling the comfortable and well-appointed room. Harry pulled the blanket over his face.
“I must say I was rather surprised to wake up and find you in our bed this morning,” said Ginny softly. “It’s been weeks since we had a proper night together. You know, most people would find it easy to ask for some time off if their boss was their best friend.”
“Hermione already took a lot of flack for my promotion. The new Minister of Magic can’t just go around handing out favors to her friends,” Harry grunted, pulling down the blanket and covering his face with his hands. “Besides, you know her as well I as do. She’ll tell me that I should’ve known what to expect taking such an important position.”
Ginny sighed and laid down next to her husband, resting her head on his chest. “Everyone needs a break sometime, Harry. There’s no shame in asking to spend a little alone time with your wife.”
After the usual last minute scramble to pack long neglected school trunks, Harry and his family made their ways to King’s Cross Station and platform 9 ¾ where, for the first time, all three of his children would board the Hogwarts Express. It was to be a bittersweet occasion, Harry thought to himself. Although he was glad that he would no longer be filling the role of mostly absent parent, he would miss impromptu Quidditch matches with James, Albus, and Teddy and teaching Lily to fly a broom. He could not believe how quickly time seemed to be passing these days.
Through the familiar clouds of white steam billowing from the train, he saw Ron and Hermione standing in the middle of the platform saying their goodbyes to Rose and Hugo, who looked as if they couldn’t wait another minute to join their friends on the waiting train.
As the Potters moved to join them, it wasn’t difficult to hear an all too familiar scene playing out.
“But Moooom, all my friends are already on the train! I don’t see why everyone has to wait for them. They were just over for dinner last weekend!”
Rose, just like her best friend Albus, had unmistakably entered her teen years and a sappy goodbye in front of the whole school was the last thing she wanted. Ron and Hermione, apparently already expecting this, simply ignored her as they waved in response to Harry and Ginny’s efforts to get their attention and Rose tried to pretend that she wanted nothing more than to spend the next three and a half months as far from London as she could hope to get.
“Good morning, Minister,” said Ginny warmly as she moved to hug her sister-in-law. “Shall we release the prisoners?” She gave Rose a wink.
“Oh, alright. Run along. But first, I want to see your checklist. Last year you forgot half your books!” Hermione waved her wand and a too long piece of parchment flew out of Rose’s back pocket and into her other hand. She quickly skimmed the list, seeing that all of the important boxes were checked and looked at her daughter with a smile. “Looks like you’re free to go. Better hurry if you want to find an empty compartment!”
As they all said their goodbyes, Harry caught sight of another familiar face. Draco Malfoy had just stepped through the barrier, and despite his usual well-tailored appearance, Harry thought the best way to describe how he looked was…tired. Honestly, the last time he could remember Malfoy looking this bad, not that he had ever really put much thought into what Malfoy looked like, was their sixth year.
“Hey, Ron,” Harry whispered as Ginny and Hermione squinted at the train, hoping to catch one last glimpse of the kids before the train pulled out of the station. “Check it out. What’s up with Malfoy?”
“Honestly, mate, and here I thought I was the one always behind on the news.” Ron stifled a laugh. “Malfoy and his wife split up a couple months back. Rita Skeeter was all over it in the Prophet.”
“Christ sakes, are they still publishing that old hag? With her record it’s just as likely they’re planning a second honeymoon,” Harry said a little more loudly than he had wanted. “Although, I suppose it is a little weird that he just walked onto the platform by himself. Scorpius must already be on the train, it’s nearly eleven.”
Ron took another step closer to Harry and said under his breath: “That’s not all she wrote, either. Rumor on the street is that he’s, well, you know…polishing his wand with the other hand, if you know what I mean.”
“Oh, Ronald, you did always have such a way with words,” Ginny chuckled, both of the men unaware that their wives had been listening to their entire exchange.
“Either way, the rumors must be true,” Hermione added. “I overheard Blaise Zabini gossiping about it outside Madame Malkin’s just last week. Apparently, Malfoy’s been rather open about it since they split up. He’s gay, Harry.”
“Makes sense if you ask me. Always had a flare for drama, that one. And besides, it explains how he ended up with that pug-faced troll Parkinson when we were at Hogwarts. You’d had to have been a poofter to snog her, anyway,” Ron said in a way that only he could.
Harry’s thoughts trailed off. He couldn’t say that he was particularly surprised, although he wondered why Malfoy had decided to wait until after he’d been married and had a son to change his lifestyle. As the others continued gossiping, Harry realized just a moment too late that he’d been staring at Malfoy for a bit too long. The other man had noticed him and when their eyes met, Harry gave him a polite nod and turned again to face his friends.
The next day, Harry returned to his office in the Ministry to find on top of the massive daily pile of letters and interdepartmental memos a small note on what appeared to be rather fine stationary. He picked it up and saw a delicate serpent embossed in the green wax sealing the parchment. He broke the seal and read:
Potter,
I realize this is coming from out of the blue, but I never properly thanked you for what you did back at Hogwarts. I’d like to make it up to you. Meet me this Friday at the Leaky Cauldron at half-past eight and I’ll buy you a drink.
Cordially,
Draco Malfoy

An Unusual Request - SCORBUS AU!
Albus knew that the love between them was completely impossible. A famous player could not maintain a relationship with a mere peasant. It was already too complicated for him to be a wizard, and Al a Muggle. Everything is further aggravated by the society in which he lived: a time when this "interracial" relationship was not even accepted, who will say a homosexual.
“Albus, you can not be serious!” Scorpius Malfoy gripped his shoulders tightly as he fidgeted at his harsh words.
Minutes before he had tried to end his courtship. He could not bear to be so hated by his people. He was afraid of them, that was remarkable. They lived in a time when muggles were still unaware of magic, so any threat was enough. And that was indeed happening: Scorpius's family had been threatening him psychologically for a few days, and you feared not for himself but for him.
“Scorp, I can not do this to you anymore! I can not arrest you any more who has nothing to offer you! It's just me. I can not do magic like you, and I know perfectly well that this is a great setback in your life. You have not battled your entire life to be a great player to waste your time and magic with a muggle.”
"Al, understand once and for all: I love you, and nothing in the world will keep me from you. It is time to understand how this thought is ancient. You were not afraid and did not give me away in those three years together. They can not do anything to you without being arrested and their threats do not work with me.”
“Scorp ...”
"Please, do not push me away again ... Not when I was finally going to ask you to marry me."
Albus's eyes widen in total astonishment, holding his breath.
"You're not serious, are you?"
"Albus Potter, would you marry me?" - Scorpiusr asks looking deep into his eyes, pulling his wand and holding it close to him.
“You do not know how much. " He kiss those flamboyant lips desperately, tearing a sensual laugh from the blonde in front of you.
He pushes the groom lightly to transfigure an engagement ring on his finger, pulling him close in the next second, invading his mouth with his warm, inviting tongue. Scorpius definitely knew how to kiss a guy. He admitted that he had stayed with high-witch girls before, but when he came across Albus in the middle of the forest the night they met, mixed in with his lack of fear when he lost control of his powers by nervousness stole his heart. Perhaps that was what irritated the magical community: he had traded wealthy women and witches for a Muggle and peasant guy.
"Hmmm ..." he moaned into the blonde's mouth as he put his hands inside his shirt. The brunette has no other reaction than to run his arms around his neck, deepening the kiss even more.
They take off their shirts quickly, always stroking the chest set one apart. Albus runs his lips to the blonde's neck, depositing a few kisses and bites when he feels his waist pulled violently, having pressed the two erections together.
"Al ..." Scorpius moans before pushing him under his bed, kissing more violently as he loses his hands over her body, entwining her legs.
Really, the witches had missed a nice party.
Albus feels hands invade the waistband of his pants, pulling them out quickly. It does not make it cheap for him, finding it unfair to be the only nude in the room.
That day there was no time for any provocation or preliminary: once naked, Scorpius lay back on him and looked deep into his eyes, took his right hand and kissed him as calmly as possible. In this climate of romance he invests on his belly, making a delicious friction between its members.
Slowly they move, rubbing one penis on the other, increasing speed as the kisses and squeezes intensify. They reach their apexes together, feeling that warmth characteristic of orgasm and its seeds spreading through their bodies.
“I love you.” Albus says when he can catch his breath.
“I love you, Al. I promise nothing and nobody will hurt you. It will be you and me fighting against whoever wants our evil and against it. You can take it?”
"I would never leave you, Scorpius. It will be just you and me.”
“Just you and me.”

Oneshot #45 :)
The eldest brother James sat cross legged in the room of requirement advising his brother on the art of love. "I know you liked Scorpius for two years now. I will help you win his heart." He chuckled, briefly. "Although, I doubt he isn't interested." A frustrated 13 year old ran fingers through his hair with a deep sigh. "Thanks for taking interest in my love life. However, there is a possibility I'll get rejected." He couldn't fathom not having the blond haired Slytherin as a boyfriend. "I am gonna hand it to you straight. You are very dense." "There is no way Scorpius would ever fall for the chosen one's son." With every excuse delayed a possible relationship between the two which wasn't helping anyone. James in utter disbelief ignored the comment. "We don't have time to waste. Let's get to it." Suddenly, it was as if the whole world froze. It's one thing to not be ready and it's a whole other thing to take action. "I hope he likes me. I really hope he likes me." Albus crossed his fingers. "You don't have to hope he likes you. Anyways, the first step is to get him alone with you." "How and where?" An entire bundle of scenarios ran through Jame's mind, some more direct then others. "Considering the fact the two of you are inseparable, it shouldn't be difficult. I was thinking.....-" He paused for a moment. "Take him to the chamber of secrets." Just a table over sat Rose Weasley, eavesdropping. She saw this as a perfect opportunity to intervene. She closed her book and walked over to them. "Are you out of your mind? How can you suggest such thing? Do you know how many school rules that's breaking?" She gave James a disapproving look. If there is a pet peeve James hated the most, it's others meddling. "Ahh it's the she devil talking. Where does this concern you?" He said with an aggravated voice. She didn't like the tone in his voice. "Excuse me, you have no right to talk to me like that." She couldn't stand her cousin sometimes. "No one asked you to be a part of the conversation. You just waltzed your way in thinking your opinion matters." James crossed his hands. "You are a bad influence. I suggest working on your attitude first before offering horrible advice." She held hands at her hips. Breaking the little argument, Albus had a few words of his own. "If I want to take Scorpius to the chamber of secrets, it's my decision. I'll face consequences if we get caught." Rose turned to Albus, "If you say so." She walked away, exiting the library. "Finally, she left. Good riddance." James shook his head. Albus thought about the previous talk. "How do I tell Scorpius I like him?" "Next step is to take each letter of his full name and provide an adjective to describe him beginning with said letter and turn it into a poem." As basic as this sounds, James felt simple fits into Scorpius's personality. For a second, Albus blushed. "That sounds beautiful. Will it work?" Moments like these made James feel important to some degree. "Do what Tom Riddle did and have the poem be on display in gold and magical writing." "What else can you tell me?" An enlightened Albus wanted all the answers. "When you ask him out, do it in a way that keeps him guessing like for example, you can play coy at first and slowly ease your way into confession." From so much experience in relationships, comes wisdom. Albus was moved. "You are very insightful. Thanks for leading me in the right direction." James smiled for the first time today. "Besides, I ship you and Scorpius together." "What?" Albus couldn't believe the words. "Nothing. Go get your man." James encouraged him. Albus stood up to leave mouthing, "thank you," to James. When the coast was clear, James smiled to himself finishing the drawing of Scorpius and Albus. While running in the halls, Albus bumped into someone. "I am so sorry. I didn't mean to.-" He looked up and saw Scorpius. "It's all good. Where have you been? I missed you" Scorpius didn't mind the bump. In fact, he was glad it happened. Biting his lip, Albus sucked in a breath. "I was with James talking about stuff." He said convincingly. Raising his eyebrows, Scorpius asked follow up questions. "Stuff, you talked to him about stuff? What kind of stuff?" "Mostly, we talked about you." Albus admitted half the truth. "What about me?" Scorpius nudged his shoulder, playfully. Albus jumped, clearly distracted. "Your eyes are grayer today." Scorpius was confused. "My eyes are grayer? What's going on?" "I'll tell you tonight. I gotta go." Albus walked past him very fast. Hours passed and shortly enough, supper arrived. However, Albus had other plans in mind. "Instead of eating dinner, tonight we are heading to the chamber of secrets." "We, as in you and I?" Scorpius reacted, amused. Albus nodded. "Just you and I." He repeated to him. "Normally I would talk you out of it but this I gotta see." Scorpius smirked. They arrived to the sink of the chamber and opened the entrance. Albus jumped in first followed by Albus. It was completed sealed shut. "Thanks for coming, Scorpius. I didn't think you had it in you." That's all he managed to say. "I had a feeling I had to and besides, we only live once." Remembering everything James said stuck with Albus. "Let's go further inside to be alone. We don't want any distractions." Albus took the lead in front. "I know exactly where to go." "I am sure you do." Scorpius ran beside him brushing their shoulders. That alone was enough to send Albus in a frenzy. "That was new. I liked it." Scorpius walked as closely as possible next to Albus. Silence remained for a while. "And we are here." Albus stated. "The place where your father fought Tom Riddle. It's also the same place where he uhhhh.-" Realizing what he was close to saying, he stopped himself. Albus studied him. "You can tell me anything, you know." "Same goes for you." Scorpius snuck up behind him to whisper in his year. "I have something I wanna give you." Albus pulled out a fancy hand written piece of paper. Scorpius wondered about the content. "What is it?" He asked curiously. Taking the biggest breath of his life wasn't easy. "I wrote you a poem. Read it." He handed the poem to Scorpius with shaky hands. Willingly, Scorpius took it flipping it to the front. "I am nervous too." He added. S- Scorpius is my superb best friend with a sweetness unlike any other and he grows sweeter then all sweets combined C- Scorpius is a cutie with a cool attitude that makes me want to cuddle him O- Scorpius is outgoing R- Scorpius is real and my reality P- Scorpius is perfect and beauty couldn't define such pure innocence I- Scorpius is intriguing to my liking and an incredible person at heart with an interesting personality U- Scorpius is undeniably the most understanding and unifying soul S- Scorpius is the surest secret known to man M- Scorpius is mostly miraculously mine A- Scorpius is amazingly addicting to my core L- Scorpius is lovely F- Scorpius is funny O- Scorpius is outstanding Y- Scorpius is a yearning so great that my heart cannot take The ending was something else. Scorpius read it a few times to make sure he read the poem right. Albus and Scorpius exchanged looks. "Albus, this is........-" Scorpius couldn't even gather his thoughts. Albus held his breath. He couldn't respond. Scorpius continued, "No. One. Ever. Wrote. Me. A. Poem. EVER." He emphasized. "D-D-did y-y-you like it?" Albus stuttered with his sentence. "Did I like it? No. I loved it." Scorpius placed the poem in his pocket. Albus was relieved but what came next couldn't have prepared him. Without stalling, Scorpius grabbed him by the face and lightly stroked his cheek as he stared deeply into his eyes. "You won't forget this moment." Before Albus knew it, he was kissed by Scorpius Malfoy. At first, Albus's eyes were open wide in shock. Slowly, he eased into the kiss and let his eyes close. Hands wrapped around his waist pulling him closer. His first instinct was wrapping his hands around Scorpius's neck. Their bodies were in perfect alignment and making physical contact. Lightly, Albus stroked Scorpius's neck with his fingers. The kiss deepened as two tongues joined together, both seeking dominance of the other. Scorpius suckled on the tip of his best friends future boyfriends tongue tenderly as if making love to the flesh. Albus gripped his shirt in response, feeling a range of hormones he had not known existed. Each taste of Albus made Scorpius weak as if he wanted to do something else altogether unaware of what it could mean. Upon feeling satisfied, Scorpius drew out his tongue to lick Albus's upper and lower lip. Neither knew how to stop the kissing session, not that either wanted it to end. Albus and Scorpius kissed each other breathlessly forgetting time was a thing. Besides, they weren't rushing anywhere. At one point, Scorpius brought Albus to the ground. He had his hands pinned as he kissed him nonstop. A first kiss is supposed to be simple yet their's is passionate. Scorpius kissed every corner of Albus's lips and everywhere in between. He was short of breath. Regaining air could wait. Albus kissed back, delicately like the touch of a feather making it special. He bit on Scorpius's lower lip. Kissing carried on for hours. By the time they finished making out, Albus and Scorpius had swollen lips. "I didn't know you'd be this addicting because if I did I would have kissed you in first year." Scorpius felt like he missed out on a lot of kisses he could have had if they started sooner. "It's better now then never. This won't be the last time. We can make it our thing." Albus wanted to time travel to the past and make it so they were kissing since eleven. Scorpius planned on keeping him. "You're mine." He kissed Albus again. "I have a question for you." Albus took out his wand to make the message appear in gold writing on the wall. "Will you be my boyfriend?" Grabbing his own wand, Scorpius wrote yes inside a heart. Albus was full of happiness. "We are official now. What happened next?" "More making out and hopefully marriage." Scorpius found his one and only. "Married or not, making out is in our future." Albus put the invisibility cloak over them. The making out resumed.

The Other Malfoy: Chapter 3 - The Children’s Return
(2040 words)   Read it on AO3
Chapter Summary: The trio and Draco greeted their children on the platform.
For the past three years, it had become somewhat a routine that the other Potter children, along with all of the Weasley students, would hop off the train within minute after the Hogwarts Express had pulled in. While Harry would be busy greeting James (and later Lily as well), then all the Weasleys, both the Potter and the Malfoy parents would be silently and anxiously scanning the crowd for their Slytherin boys. Harry could vividly remember asking James to go back up to check on his brother during Albus' first return home for Christmas. It had been a shame that they simply would not get off the train until the majority of the crowd had dispersed, at least minutes after the third last person had gotten off, as they would have been so easily distinguishable with Albus' jet black hair and Scorpius' platinum blonde hair. At least the Potters had plenty of distractions, Draco was not so lucky, especially after his wife's death, but he loved his boy too much to not show up on the platform punctually. Harry was expecting the same old routine all over again this afternoon.
As expected, James, Lily, as well as most of the Weasleys, rushed off the train immediately after the train doors had opened, but with one certain exception, Rose Granger-Weasley. Having gotten used to greeting his daughter so soon, Ron found himself anxiously waiting for the first time while half-heartedly hugging Hugo. The Potters and Draco, however, just casually and patiently waited for their sons.
As more and more students had left the train, Ron was looking more and more uneasy even though Hermione was not particularly bothered by it. Harry very much doubted anything could have happened to his niece but it was indeed curious for Rose to appear so late. They were about to question Hugo when a very confident but casual-looking Rose emerged, seemingly being one of the last students to leave the train, followed immediately by a laughing Albus, who was urging a bashful but smiling Scorpius out. Harry could feel his heart warming to the sight of a happy Albus, he stole a quick glance sideway to see that Draco's entire demeanour had softened at the sight of his boy as well.
A fidgety Ron rushed forward to meet his daughter halfway. "My dear Rose, what has taken you so long? I'm starting to worry"
"Oh, I was just sitting with Albus and Bread Head at the last compartment, that's all." Rose said dismissively, completely oblivious to the nervous look given to her by her father. Presently Albus was being enveloped by Ginny, after sharing a brief but heartfelt greeting with Harry, he looked embarrassed to be hugged so tightly by his mother but was not repelled. Scorpius had timidly walked up to Draco, who opened his arms to receive his son, albeit very stiffly. After being released from his father, the young Slytherin backed up a bit awkwardly in front of his own trunk.
Draco was resigned but not angry when he asked, "Scorpius, did someone wrote something on your trunk again?"
Scorpius' smile disappeared, he looked down and kept his silence for a whole minute. "Well…" The previous contentment seemed to have left Draco as he looked a bit sadly at his son, his arm awkwardly reaching for Scorpius'. Harry did not want to intrude but they were all standing so close that to move away now would have been more distracting. He was stunned and confused to see a barely-suppressed smile on his own son's face though.
A moment later, Scorpius looked up, his face lighted up as if he had just received an early Christmas present, "actually, No! Dad, my trunk is completely clean and good as new! How great is that?"
It sounded ridiculous that an innocent fourteen-year-old could find not having his trunk been vandalised a cause of celebration, but Harry was immediately saddened by Scorpius exclamation of delight, saddened by the implication that his trunk basically got vandalised every time, a sadness that seemed to be shared by Ginny and Hermione as well. Harry noticed that even Ron looked uncomfortable. His own previous guiltiness towards Scorpius resurfaced as he thought over how unfair and cruel he had been in suspecting him to be the dark cloud.
Draco relaxed and said gently, "Well… that is good news." Harry could not help feeling surprised that it had appeared that Draco had just dejectedly accepted his heir's bullying by the other students, which was such a sharp contrast from the way Lucius had handled any "injustice" shown to his son. Harry thought that sure it might not be a good idea for Draco to interfere too much given Scorpius would have to fend for himself (not really, given he had the hotheaded Albus as well) for the most part, but there must have been at least some interference he could exercise, if his trunk being vandalised was a regular occurrence.
"Yeah, two boys have tried to sneak by but they were told off by Rose, then there was this one who actually managed to reach the trunk, before being hexed by her! It's so awesome!" Scorpius continued, completely unaware of all the adults' uneasiness.
Draco looked at his son fondly, then turned stiffly towards Rose, he said in a voice free of any irony, "Thank you for defending my son, Miss Granger-Weasley." Harry could see Ron's jaw drop to the floor.
Rose answered easily with a toss of her hair, "It's fine, Mr Malfoy. Bread… hmm Malfoy may be kind of weird but he really doesn't deserve to be bullied." As if the adults could not have felt more uncomfortable, Rose's blunt use of the word "bully" did nothing to loosen up the atmosphere. "Besides, those boys should really grow up!"
Harry could see Ron trying and completely failing to mask his nervousness and concern as he asked, "So, my darling Rose, you and Scorpius are friends now, huh?" Hermione definitely looked ashamed in Ron's behalf as she shoved him rather openly. "What?"
Rose was of course, not stupid at all. "Don't worry, dad. We're just regular friends. Albus doesn't really give me any choice there. The two of them are inseparable, so if I want to hang out with my cousin, I have to hang out with Bread H… I mean Scorpius as well." She had the grace to try to avoid Draco's look after her repeated uses of that … interesting nickname of Scorpius. Scorpius was beaming widely while Albus actually looked at Rose with a fond smile.
It was about time to go, Harry thought he should greet his son's best friend as well before they left for winter break. Harry discreetly reached Scorpius' side while Ginny and Hermione were having some small talks with Draco, Ron was still fussing with Rose. Albus was now sharing a joke with James, something the brothers had rarely done since Albus' first year.
"Hello, Scorpius." Scorpius looked up at Harry with his wide eyes, stunned that Harry was addressing him personally. Harry had talked to Scorpius before, but always with Albus standing right by the young Malfoy's side, and never about anything much more than "how are you?". Harry Potter essentially had never have a real conversation with his son's favourite person in the whole world.
"Oh, hello Harry… I… I mean Mr Potter!" Harry could not help smiling at the boy's nervous excitement. "Scorpius, you are Albus' best friend, sure you can call me Harry if you like."
"Oh, yeah… hello Harry." All the blood in Scorpius' body seemed to have rushed to his face, he looked as red as a tomato by now. "I didn't mean to say that twice, sorry." he had looked down and was fidgeting a lot right now.
"Relax, Scorpius. I just want to see how you are doing. I understand that you have been hurt by Del… her."
The boy looked up at him, he seemed curious about how much Harry knew about the extent of his injuries. He carefully said, "I am fine. Th-thank you for asking, Mr Potter. I mean, Harry." He had returned to looking at the floor again, Harry felt frustrated that both of his attempts in making small talks only worked up the Malfoys instead of broke the ice.
An awkward moment had turned into a minute, Harry was debating whether he should just wish the boy merry Christmas then get going, when Scorpius suddenly looked up and blurted, "I'm so sorry, Mr Potter!"
"What? … what did you do that you should apologise to me for?" Harry was thoroughly confused.
"I … I should have turned in the ti… it earlier. Things would not have gotten so out of hand if I have done that. Craig would not have… Also, I should have made Albus see sense when it all started. I jumped off a moving train and disguised myself as you, it was foolish and reckless of me as father has said… and, I should have…" Scorpius was red-faced and was slurring his words badly. It was clear that all these guilt and emotions had been bottling-up inside for a while, waiting for the perfect opportunity to be released.
It was too much for Harry to handle, for this unknown hero who had single-handedly reversed a nightmare of a reality in which the boy could have lived like a king, only to be bullied by everyone in this real world, to be apologising so profusely to himself "the Saviour", who got thanked every day for something he had done twenty years ago. It felt wrong that Scorpius, the follower of this adventure and ever loyal friend, would be here apologising when even Albus, the leader and his own son, had yet to properly apologise for his behaviours. It felt even more wrong that Scorpius, who had lost his mother and had experienced so much loneliness, would be here apologising to him when Harry, the orphan raised in an abusive household, had been the one who had separated this innocent boy from his only friend in school.
Harry had originally started this conversation in hope that he could find his opportunity to apologise. Seeing that things had taken such a wrong turn, he desperately wanted to do something to soothe the boy. He felt too self-conscious to apologise now, feeling the watchful glances of Scorpius' two protectors, Draco and Albus, whose attentions had been directed this way by Scorpius' agitated state and outburst.
"Scorpius," Harry had tentatively placed a hand on the boy's shoulder, "you should not have to apologise." He looked up in response with his now shining eyes. Harry felt guilty at the sight of those eyes thinking how carefree he had appeared while getting off the train earlier.
"But...I...hmm" Scorpius was not convinced by Harry's words at all.
"It's not your fault, Scorpius." Harry said firmly. "If anything, you should be proud of yourself, all would have been lost if it's not for your bravery and determination."
The young Malfoy might not have believed Harry's words but he could definitely see his sincerity, he seemed to have calmed down in response and gave Harry a slight nod.
Sensing that the previous light-hearted moment had turned into one of uneasiness for everyone in their group thanks to him, he tried to end this poorly-executed conversation.
"I wish you a merry christmas, Scorpius. You really deserve a nice winter break after the terrible things you have been through." Harry winced when he realised that he had unconsciously make reference to that incident again, thankfully Scorpius did not notice.
"A merry Christmas to you too, Har… Mr Potter." He said with a warm, albeit a bit watery smile.
Draco continued to talk awkwardly with Ginny and Hermione, seemingly trying to avoid Harry after he had upset his child, while Scorpius was taking minutes to bid Albus farewell. The pair was laughing loudly one moment, talking seriously between themselves the next, at the end they must have hugged for a whole minute, completely oblivious to their surroundings, while all their families were looking on. They finally separated, allowing the Potters, the Weasleys and the Malfoys to go their separate ways.
A/N: I love writing Scorpius, he is such a great character with so many layers. I don't want my Scorpius here to suffer too much after the events in HPCC but I do believe that for a character so kind, he would definitely feel a certain degree of responsibilities for the incidents in HPCC.
