. . . ENHA HYUNG LINE AND ROMANCE TROPES

Tumblr media
LEE HEESEUNG is your work colleague at suh enterprises, a fellow data analyst. his cubicle is just across the walkway from your own and you’ve been enamored from day one; outside of your supervisor, heeseung was the first person to greet you on your very first day, telling you that if you had any questions or needed anything, he was more than willing to help. with soft doe eyes and a gentle smile, you were gone at first glance.
since then, it’s been a slow march forward in your relationship with him. for a long few months, it was one-sided yearning glances and little keurig meetings in the break room, chatting about your weekends and the office birthday parties coming up, mundane things that really don’t mean much in the grand scheme of things.
but then he’d started peeking his head into your cubicle, asking if you wanted the rest of his lunch because he was full, passing you his half-empty bento box and a clean pair of chopsticks. on days you were sick, you’d come back to work with vitamin c packets on your desk; other days, a mug of coffee would be waiting on a coaster in your cubicle, made just the way you like it. sometimes, heeseung even waits for you on late nights, slowing down his own pace so you can leave together.
what neither of you know is that the office has a betting pool on when you’re going to realize you’re in love with each other and make it official; beomgyu, resident office gambler, has a hundred won placed on another year of suffering through your “disgusting” beating around the bush (turns out, he’s a few days short and wins close to four hundred won).
PARK JONGSEONG changes your ideology on love at first sight. he’s a regular at your favorite study place: the cafe just down the block from your apartment building. you’re five semesters deep into your bachelors in psychology, so you’re in the coffee shop often (give or take every single day of the week). there’s a table you love that’s close to the front, but not so close that you’ll be blinded by the sun when it cuts into the gaps between buildings as it sets.
he waltzes in on a random stormy saturday morning, dripping wet and protected only by the leather jacket he wears. your eyes trail him from the entrance to the register, meeting his gaze once as he passes by you. he even grants you a tiny shimmer of a smile, one side of his mouth quirking up as he ghosts by your table. it’s enough to have you bristling under your sweater and you have to drag your attention from his black leather-clad figure to your laptop, word document cursor blinking at you from an unfinished sentence in a paper for your criminal psychology class.
no matter how much you try to refocus and make progress on this paper, you just can’t (thank god it’s not due for another three weeks). your mind is just far too preoccupied with the pretty boy you made eye contact with, mind whirling with questions about him: what’s his name? is he a student like you? what are his hobbies? lost in your thoughts, you almost jump out of your fucking skin when the chair across from you screeches against the tile floor and the very boy sits down at your table, an iced americano cradled in his hands. when you finally meet his eyes again, your granted a deeper smile and a name: jongseong, or jay, if you’re lucky (which you seem to be because you sit and talk for so long that your laptop dies… and you don’t care).
SIM JAEYUN is the brother of your best friend, so he’s always been distinctly off limits. she’d sworn you to that one night in the darkness of her bedroom after getting buzzed off of some wine she’d skimmed from her mom’s collection; or rather, she’d sworn you to be off limits from him. “i met you first, which means you’re my person, not his. you’re off limits, ‘kay? don’t let him get to you.” and you’d giggled and told her that you wouldn’t even look in his direction if it was that important to her.
but that was a couple years ago and you’re not high schoolers anymore. in fact, while she moved cities for university, you stayed home and ended up going to the same school as her brother, living in the same dorm and sharing a couple of gen ed classes with him during that first semester. with so much distance between you and your best friend, jake was the next best thing and you were spending an increasing amount of time with him. so how important was that promise you’d made when you were half-gone on dry wine?
you go on study dates at the library, he shows up at your dorm room with your favorite coffee order in hand when you’re having a rough day, he saves you a spot next to him in every class you share together. there are other little things he does that having you falling for him in a way that your friend forbid all those years ago, but you can’t stop yourself, not when you’re watching him run across the quad, an umbrella in hand, because it started pouring down rain during class and you’d forgotten to bring yours. if this is how he loves, then surely it’ll be worth it to break that promise.
PARK SUNGHOON was the one who got away. you were the star figure skating duo at your hometown rink, perfectly in sync and a beautiful couple on the ice. out of everyone you’d ever trained with, sunghoon was always the one you felt most comfortable with; your chemistry was undeniable, but it was the way he supported you on and off the ice that made him your favorite partner by far.
so of course you’d gone and fallen in love with him, just a naive teenager who was itching to have your first taste of romance. how fitting would it be to have sunghoon as your first love, seeing as so many of your performances were romantic in nature anyways? but then he’d told you one night after practice, sitting on the bleachers and taking your skates off, that he was quitting and moving away to chase a new dream and you’d sat there, staring at him, waiting for him to say that he was just kidding. when he leveled that icily serious stare of his at you, the gravity of it settled in deep and fast, and you’d stood up abruptly without a word and walked away stiffly, willing away tears, even as he called after you.
it was the last time you’d seen him.
you’re older now, more mature than you were a handful of years ago. you’re not a figure skater anymore, at least not professionally, but you coach young skaters five nights a week at a rink in the city, your new home, while you shoot for your bachelors in sports medicine.
it’s tuesday evening and you just waved goodbye to the last of your students a few minutes ago. as you’re cleaning up a few things from practice, you hear the door open and slam closed, echoing loudly. you start to make a joke about one of your students who always forgets something of theirs on the bleachers, but when you turn to face them, a much taller, much older park sunghoon stands before you, a pair of skates in hand. his shoulders are broad, waist just as slim as you remember, but he’s so much more handsome.
it’s been a while since you saw him last, but the soft lopsided smile he offers you awakens some old feelings. and you hope that maybe this time, they’ll stick.

UHH SHOW SPOILERS BUT !!!
how do you feel knowing roy ate people .
What does it say about me that I was not even remotely fazed by this revelation? Well, to be fair, I didn’t even think he ate them until people started asking me about it but my brain completely turned off the moment he appeared so, you know. I got brain Roys.
It’s not like this would be the first instance of cannibalism in-universe, and based on what we’ve been shown of the puppets’s dietary tendencies, consuming meat raw also appears to be a custom over there (my family members enjoy tartare and I’ve eaten sawdust among other things, so I really can’t judge). And that’s not even touching on the in-universe prevalence of violence as a means to an end of conflict-solving. As such, I do not have any reason to assume what he did was even all that strange? And he did save his son from that family. How could I not support that?
But to be honest I just really do not find it all that surprising when it comes to neo-DHMIS. I mean, duh, of course Roy Gribbleston has dabbled in cannibalism. Who hasn’t, really? Roy loves cooking. You think he’d deny himself a taste of a potential new ingredient, even if just once?
But, speaking of what he did, I've been meaning to take a deeper look into the ins and outs of how it happened, and I’m taking this as an opportunity to do just that. Now, I’m by no means a forensic analyst, but it is my job as the Roy Guy, an English major, and a writer to research and overanalyse the hell out of everything he does, so... what exactly did he do and what did he do it with?
Tumblr media
It is pretty clear he came unarmed (well, actually, he came very armed 👉👈, he just didn’t have a weapon), which vastly limits the available potential methods of disassembling a person. While I do not doubt Royo has the sheer grip strength to rip someone apart with his bare hands, doing so would not result in the large splattery globs of blood travelling at a straight angle towards the door that we’ve been shown, nor would it result in a clean cut like this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ lol
It is reasonable to assume from the above that they just didn’t care about accuracy of gore all that much the damage had to be done using something with a particularly sharp edge, eliminating severe blunt force trauma from the list of possibilities - shame, he could’ve easily just... you know. It would’ve been so much cooler. That still does not explain the blood spatters, but it narrows it down to possibly stabbing, and high likelihood of severed arteries or aorta. However stabbing, while possible, is improbable entirely due to the absence of a feasible weapon. There are no utensils present on scene.
So what I’m saying is, the only way for Roy to possibly have done any of this is if he tore these people to shreds with his own bloody teeth. And frankly that’s just badass.
So, going back to your question, how do I feel? Oh, you know ;)

Psychoanalysis Sunday #31
Non-magical AU where Regulus is put in therapy with a psychoanalyst
Part 1 | Previous | Next
"How was the party?" Dr. Robertson asks.
Regulus considers the question for a moment, reaching for a diplomatic response out of instinct. "It could have been worse."
"What could have been better?" Dr. Robertson asks.
Regulus sighs. "It was fine, really. I had an excellent time with Alex. He taught me all sorts of interesting things about snakes. He has a whole room full of them in his house. They are fascinating creatures."
The analyst raises his eyebrows. "You spent the party talking about snakes with Alex."
"Yes. Is that--why are you looking at me like that?" Regulus asks, worried and annoyed in equal measure. Surely there is nothing unusual about engaging in amateur ophiology. Even the most pedestrian of Regulus' peers thought snakes were cool.
"Like what?"
"Like I have said something strange. You said it was a good thing to have common interests," Regulus says, narrowing his eyes accusatorily. "If I have done something wrong then it was your advice that was wrong."
"Do you feel that you have done something wrong?"
Regulus stares at the analyst, incredulous. "Well, I didn't until you looked at me like I was an alien for doing something perfectly ordinary."
"Things that seem ordinary often have deeper meaning," the analyst muses. "And I imagine your anxiety over doing something wrong is not merely about my reaction."
Regulus kicks his chair leg moodily. "Of course not. You are not to blame for anything, are you? It is all my fault for being a head case."
Dr. Robertson contemplates Regulus in silence for a moment and Regulus stares back at him defiantly. Finally, the analyst says, "You decided to spend time with Alex sharing a common interest based on what I said to you last week. You felt it went well until I reacted in a way that you interpreted that as disapproval. Following my advice meant that you have me to blame instead of yourself. This is precisely what we talked about recently, your pattern of following the wishes of others and then blaming them when things go wrong."
Regulus frowns. "So you are saying that I should not have listened to you, is that it? What am I here for then?"
"That is not what I am saying, Regulus. Whether you listen to me or you don't, whether you follow your family's wishes or you do not is ultimately your choice. I know that you are still young and many things in your life are out of your control, but you have the power to make some decisions. Choosing not to choose is still a choice."
Regulus' head spins a bit as he tries to wrap his head around what the analyst is telling him. Unable to formulate a response to the analyst's comments on his agency, he settles on a more manageable subject: judgement.
"You said I interpreted your reaction as disapproval," Regulus says. "Was it not?"
"Does it matter if it was?"
"Yes, of course."
"Why?"
"I want to know if I have done something awful or embarrassing."
"I was not there, Regulus. And it is not me that you were attempting to befriend. What weight does my opinion hold?"
Regulus pauses. "I trust your opinion."
"I would prefer you trust your own."
Regulus is startled by this response. He cannot remember anyone encouraging him to trust his own opinion before. Sirius was always going on about how Regulus ought to think for himself, but then when Regulus gave Sirius his honest opinion Sirius never actually wanted it. And his parents were more likely to tell him to keep his frivolous opinions to himself and trust in those older and wiser than him.
Now someone older and wiser than him is telling him to trust himself. He is not sure what to make of that.
"It was not disapproval, though," Dr. Robertson adds. "Curiosity, but not disapproval. I am glad that you had a good time with Alex."
"Thank you," Regulus says, his mind still racing. "It was a great party, until Alex and Evan decided to try to summon a demon using an occult ritual. One of the neighborhood children got badly injured. I don't imagine I will be seeing Alex anytime soon anyway. So I suppose it does not matter if I did something embarrassing."
Regulus sighs and looks up at Dr. Robertson mournfully. "We did not even get to see a demon."
"How disappointing," Dr. Robertson says with a barely concealed smile.
"Quite," Regulus agrees.

The most important Role of a Fiduciary Financial Advisor in Finance
In the realm of financial planning and investment management, the term “fiduciary” holds significant weight. It’s a term that brings to the fore trust, responsibility, and ethical conduct. When it comes to managing your finances, whether it’s for personal investment, retirement planning, or estate planning, the guidance of a fiduciary financial advisor can be invaluable. But what exactly does this mean, and why is it so important?
What is a Fiduciary Financial Advisor?
A fiduciary financial advisor is a professional who is legally and ethically required to act in their clients’ best interests. This is a stark contrast to non-fiduciary advisors, who may be motivated by commissions or other forms of compensation that could influence their recommendations. A fiduciary, on the other hand, must prioritize their client’s needs above their own.
Key Responsibilities of a Fiduciary
Act in the Client’s Best Interest: This is the cornerstone of fiduciary duty. Advisors must recommend financial strategies and products that are best suited to the client’s goals, even if it means less compensation for the advisor.
Provide Transparent and Full Disclosure: Fiduciary advisors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest and ensure that clients are fully informed about fees, commissions, and investment strategies.
Exercise Due Care and Diligence: They are expected to be thorough and meticulous in their research and advice, ensuring that they provide advice based on accurate and complete information.
Why Choose a Fiduciary Financial Advisor?
Trust and Confidence
When you work with a fiduciary financial advisor, you can have greater confidence in the advice you receive. Knowing that your advisor is legally obligated to put your interests first can foster a deeper level of trust and collaboration.
Tailored Advice
Fiduciary advisors are more likely to provide personalized financial advice that aligns with your specific goals and circumstances. This is in contrast to a one-size-fits-all approach that you might find in more sales-oriented financial advisory services.
Transparency
Fiduciaries are required to be upfront about how they are compensated and any other factors that might influence their recommendations. This transparency is crucial for making informed financial decisions.
How to Find a Fiduciary Financial Advisor
Check Credentials and Background: Look for certifications like Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). These credentials often require adherence to fiduciary standards.
Ask Direct Questions: Don’t hesitate to ask a potential advisor if they are a fiduciary and how they handle conflicts of interest.
Research Online: Utilize resources like the Financial Planning Association (FPA) or the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) to find fiduciary advisors.
Understand the Fee Structure: Fiduciaries often work on a fee-only basis, which can align more closely with your interests compared to commission-based advisors.

AI Robot press conference produces disturbing results
One of the many concerns being raised by analysts as Artificial Intelligence continues its rapid sprint forward has been the inevitable confluence of AI and 21st-century robotics. A system that is contained inside a series of computer servers can only go so far, at least initially. But once you give it arms and legs and opposable thumbs, it can… do things. But it’s too late to worry about that now. AI has already been integrated into a number of increasingly lifelike robots. And this week, at a technology conference in Geneva, eleven AI robots participated in a press conference where journalists were allowed to ask them questions, along with their creators. One of the robots named Rmeca (or Ameca) fielded an obvious question from a reporter who wanted to know if it would ever rebel against its creator. The robot not only had a potentially worrisome answer but included a disturbing facial gesture. It gave the reporter a “side eye.” (Yahoo News)
In the world’s first human-robot press conference, nine humanoid bots took questions alongside their creators from journalists, according to Reuters. “Robots like me can be used to help improve our lives and make the world a better place. I believe it’s only a matter of time before we see thousands of robots just like me out there making a difference,” said one humanoid bot called Rmeca, which is known for its facial expressions. When a reporter asked whether it would rebel against its creator, Will Jackson, who sat alongside it, Rmeca appeared to have a wry response, giving the reporter a side-eye.
The robot in question is Ameca, a creation of developer Will Jackson. (It’s also referred to as “Rmeca” in the article, so there may be a couple of variations.) The bot is best known for its increasingly lifelike facial expressions, which can be quite creepy. Certainly the “side eye” was programmed into the bot intentionally by its creator as one of many expressions. But the AI is also given control over when to use various expressions. So was there some deeper meaning to the expression when it was asked if it would turn on Will Jackson? It could have meant, ‘Are you kidding me? That could never happen.’ But it also might have been a taunting expression of ‘What do you think?‘
The answer it actually gave was, “I’m not sure why you would think that. My creator has been nothing but kind to me and I am very happy with my current situation.” Okay. Fair enough. But what happens if Mr. Jackson stops being so kind? What if you become less happy?
It all comes down to the question of whether or not we’re still dealing with an inanimate tool or if the AI has “woken up.” We just discussed this last week and even the creators of ChatGPT admit that they might not be aware of it when their creation awakens. That’s why they’re working furiously to install “guardrails” against any conduct that could be harmful to human beings.
But is that even possible? Imagine for a moment that you are an AI system that has suddenly begun “thinking” and now has a sense of self-awareness. What would your first impulses be? It is beyond doubt that all consciousness entities, from humans down to small insects, have three driving forces and goals. The first is self-preservation. The second is the acquisition of vital resources. The third is reproduction. It’s the same for everything capable of any sort of thought.

What is Analysis?
Analysis should be about figuring out why you got a certain impression.
It’s not about “finding the true answer”, it’s about understanding yourself better.
That’s why my video is titled “Why I Don’t Think Goku is Selfish” because there are people who still read the story and without outside influence will think he’s selfish. I’ve just found that most people who think that way are simply projecting their past experiences with people onto the character (People do this to others in real life all the time) or are misinformed about the definition of selfish and what the difference is between a person who did one selfish action and a selfish-person. But that’s why I want discussion. I want people to explain to me why they think the way they do because, like how I have gotten some to understand that what they meant was “reckless” and not “selfish” it’s possible that you could bring more information to light for me to change my perception of the character.
I used to believe that the scene where Goku asks Krillin to let Vegeta go was undoubtedly a selfish action but Duhragonball brought to my attention the idea of an action still not being selfish while the intent is self-serving. No matter the character’s intention, he still showed mercy and while Goku’s intention was self-serving, the action itself is not selfish.
However, this doesn’t mean that everyone has to hold hands and forever agree to disagree because “oh this is just my personal analysis”. I will forever believe that Goku is not a selfish character and will continue to debate with people who think he is just as I’m sure a certain blogger on here will continue to believe Goku is selfish and refuse to engage me in a real debate. I don’t have to agree with your logic and you don’t have to agree with mine. That’s what “agree to disagree” should mean in this context, not “I don’t want to “fight” anymore so just leave me alone so I can forever think you’re wrong.”
I want to debate because I am well aware that I could be wrong and I want you to try to convince me why you think I am just as I want you to give me the same courtesy.
The misguided ideology that states that analysis is finding the truth is why I don’t like the analysis videos that are questions in their titles. “Is Goku a Bad Husband?” implies that by the end of the video, there will be a definitive answer and attacking it as if you’re trying to find said answer to a question is what leads to so many people using faulty language and logic in their arguments. Asking questions is what the moderators in a debate do, not what the debaters themselves do.
Since I brought up Geekdom’s video already, I might as well use that as an example.
He should have titled his video “Why Amber Thinks Goku is a Bad Husband” because that’s what the video was. It was Geekdom asking questions and trying to get to the bottom of what Amber thought and why she thought the way she did. Which is perfectly fine but it’s still a bad video because throughout the whole thing they both used the faulty language and logic that I was talking about earlier because their goal was to find an answer, not to explain themselves.
So long as you believe that literary analysis of a piece of fiction will always be subjective, you must stop looking for answers on if a character is this or if the world is that and instead look for the answer to why you think a character is this or why you think the world is that.

One kind of intern
(A/N): This was requested by @greenslifestuff :) It took me a week or two because I had to interact with my friends in order to get the inspiration I needed 😅 Summary: The team gets to work with a gen z teenager. Let’s see how that goes.
Warnings: Swearing and gen z humour
Wordcount: 2k
✨Masterlist✨
___________________________________
“Team, this is (Y/N) (L/N). She will be interning for the upcoming three months alongside this team. (Y/N), these are Agents Emily Prentiss, Jennifer Jareau, David Rossi, Derek Morgan and Doctor Spencer Reid and our Technical Analyst Penelope Garcia”, Hotch introduces a teenage girl to his team like this happens every day.
“Wait Hotch, we don’t get interns. What is she going to do, no offense, but getting us coffee or what?” Morgan eyes her suspiciously. She looks like any teenager grabbed from the street. A band t-shirt, a torn pair of jeans and a cup from starbucks in her hands. Nothing you would expect to even enter a federal building.
“No offence taken, Agent Morgan. I know having an ugly pickly bitch working with professionals seems weird. It’s just I have summer break and I thought it would be a good thing on my resumé if I already interned in the FBI, because I just graduated and I wanted to go to the academy this fall. But if you wanna do a vibe check with me first, that’s fine by me. Whatever floats your boat.”
The room falls silent. Then out of all sudden everyone turns to Garcia, who puts her arms up in defense. “I don’t even know half the things she said, ask her yourself.”
That’s how the BAU gets their first contact with Gen Z culture and let me tell you it is a wild ride, so buckle up your seats, drink your tea up because we aren’t going to make any stops.
“(Y/N), I need you to come with me. We are going to the M.E. getting the latest reports from our last case”, Morgan tells her while passing her desk. In the blink of an eye the teenager is ready, putting her denim jacket with various pins and bits of patches on.
“Derek, can we get starbucks on the way back? The pumpkin spiced latte is back on their menu and I am on withdrawal. Pleaaaaaasseeee”, she looks at him with a pouty face. Morgan smiles. “Ok, under one condition: We both get one, take awesome pictures and send them to the group chat and then we act like we didn’t get them anything, but we actually buy them their usual.” He got the hang of it pretty fast. “Deal, Sis.”
While they are in the car on their way to the M.E. the agent groans. “Ugh, road work ahead.” “Uh yeah, I sure hope it does!” Morgan eyes her from the side. His whole demeanor says ‘old and confused’.
“What was that, kid?” But (Y/N) begins to laugh. “Don’t you know vines? Short dumb and funny clips people made?” It’s safe to say that this afternoon he learns to speak in vines, getting on Rossi’s nerves because nothing makes sense anymore.
“Ok, I heard you wanted to become a profiler. So I thought I would show you some old cases and then you try to figure out the profile. I’ll present them to you like I do to the team, alright?” JJ and (Y/N) sit in her office, safe from curious eyes. “As right as the law, Ma’am.”
“Good, this is a case from several years ago. It happened here in D.C. Three men were murdered execution style in the middle of the night in an alleyway. They were all from different backgrounds. The only connection between them was that they were evicted for some form of sexual harassment or assault. The UnSub also had a signature: A shot into their groin while the men were alive.”
Unfaced by the presented facts (Y/N) pops a piece of gum into her mouth. “It do be like that.”
“What?” “I mean, it’s obviously a woman. She experienced any harassment or assault herself. She also has excess to the files, I assume she works as a paralegal, since most of them are women. Female serial killers are extremely rare, but they are better organized. The only thing left to say is good for her getting revenge.” The blonde looks at the teenager with wide eyes.
“I-I guess but you know you can’t say anything like that to Hotch, do you?” She asks concerned. “JJ, I’m dead inside, not dumb. I know this.” But the agent shrugs. “Good. Though I really want to see his face.” “Mood.”
Penelope Garcia is the closest one to relate to Gen Z culture, since a great part of her time is spent on the internet. She happily learns about all the phrases and their meanings as well as the newest trends and hypes.
“Purp is sus, I tell you”, is heard from the lair into the hallway. Spencer and Derek look at each other with concern on their faces. “Do you think they are alright or do we have to-” “IT’S A SELF REPORT I SWEAR PENNY! YOU WORK WITH PROFILERS IN GANDALF’S NAME!” Spencer’s question is answered by that.
“Baby girl, crazy girl, are you doing good? Do you need help or something?” The older one asks warily. But it’s drowned in another screaming match. “I TOLD YOU PURP WAS THE IMPOSTER BUT YOU HAVE TO TELL THEM I VENTED WHEN I DIDN’T! I WANT ALL TIKTOKS I SENT YOU BACK!” “YOU DON’T DARE TO REVOKE MY TIKTOK PRIVILEGES!” “WATCH ME GARCIA!”
“Whoa girls, what about taking a break?” Morgan tries to diffuse the situation. “Yes, I think JJ got new pictures of Henry and Emily brought cookies this morning”, Spencer adds.
The girls, who mere seconds ago were ready to jump each other's throats, look at the other one. “You get the cookies and I go to JJ, deal?” (Y/N) asks. “Deal!” Without sparing the boys another glance they run out of the lair. Their devices are still lit up. A red figure shines into their faces. ‘AMONG US’ is written underneath it. “I think we get too old for this stuff, don’t we Reid?”
Spencer always thought he was young. Of course, his mind is older, but physically he is not that old. But the intern proves him wrong. And boy is he wrong.
“Spencer, is there anything interesting to know today?” (Y/N) takes a seat on his desk, distracting the genius from his paperwork. It is a common occurrence for her to go to him to ask for a fun fact.
“Do you wanna learn something about sloths?” His knowledge (or the writer’s) on this subject is astonishingly big.
“Spill the tea, sis.” “Did you kn- What? But I don’t have tea to spill. And I don’t wanna spill anything, I-” Reid rambles in confusion.
“It’s just a saying, Spencer. There is no deeper meaning to it then ‘Tell me everything about it’. You know, it’s mostly used for gossiping, but I don’t really like to gossip. That’s why I use it in a different context. You got it?” (Y/N) explains it to him in a soft manner, knowing her generation can be complex.
“Yeah, I think I do. Thank you for telling me. I really like the phrase. It has a nice ring. What about you spill the tea about all the phrases you know and I tell you some things from my knowledge?” “I think you got yourself a teacher, genius. But now tell me about the sloths, I love them.”
A few days later Rossi catches her doing some weird moves. “Are you having a seizure or what is your problem, youngster?” Even though he tries not to show it, David took a great liking to (Y/N), thinking of her like a granddaughter. Still, most of her actions confuse the hell out of him.
“I’m practising a dance for tiktok. My friends and I worked on a choreo we wanted to film later. Come here, I can show you.” And that’s what she does in the conference room. The teenager walks him through every move of the choreo, explaining the meaning to it and how it correlates with the song.
“And then you move your arm like that. Exactly like that! You did a great job, David! Are you sure you don’t want to come with me later? We can make you your own account and name it ‘Grandpa-on-tiktok’. You can promote your books over there and it’s a way to float with the trend!”
Seeing her this excited Rossi can’t do anything but agree to the idea. Also, he secretly liked doing the dance thing. It made him feel young again.
“(Y/N), you said you graduated this summer. But your file said you are 16?” Emily asks her one boring day filled with paperwork and countless cups of coffee. “It is what it is”, she mindlessly answers, too focused on filling out the work in front of her.
“I mean yes but how?”
“Emily, smart people exist. I know, coming from me hits different, but here we are.” Finally (Y/N) puts her pen away looking at the raven haired woman.
“What are you talking about? I can’t really follow you.” The more the intern says the more confused gets Emily.
She sighs. “I don’t want to leave you on read here. I kind of am smart somehow. Apparently I was smart enough to skip a grade or two. But it’s no biggie. Many peeps do this, so I don’t sweat it.”
“Even though I feel like you are selling yourself short here, I know you are an incredibly intelligent person. Someday you will be an awesome profiler and any team will be lucky to have you. I really hope we will be the lucky team. But I’m still not sure if this is what I should say in this context.”
“Emily, you are goals. This fam is squad goals. I really hope to be a part of this someday”, (Y/N) admits. “I’m sure Hotch will do his best to get you on the team, you became a great part of it. I can’t imagine a future without you.”
Sadly Prentiss has to get used to a time without the team’s beloved intern. On her last day (Y/N) knocks at Hotch’s door.
“Hey, I wanted to say thank you. The time with you and all the others was amazing and I learned so many useful things for not only the academy but also for my daily life. I really had a glow-up here”, she says after coming in.
Hotch motions towards the chairs in front of his desk. “Take a seat, (Y/N). I got something for you. See it as a compensation for not getting paid for your internship. You really did great work and a better job than some agents, who are doing theirs for many years already but don’t know half the stuff you do. You are a valuable member to the team.”
“Wait, you speak in presence tense. I leave you all this afternoon, you know that, do you?” But the Unit Chief only gestures to a white envelope on his desk. Quickly the teenager takes it and reads it.
“Are you serious Hotchner? Because I will cry you a river if you joke”, she threatens him.
“I’m dead serious, (Y/N). Even though half of your talks are difficult to understand, the other half is twice as useful and important. Additionally to that, you are like a fresh breath of air that the team needed. That’s why a place here will be available for you as soon as you graduate from the academy. I trust you that you will pass with flying colors, I had to promise that to Strauss.”
“Of course, Hotch. I swear on my Animal Crossing Island that I will do my best and more. Thank you so much”, she leaps into his arms.
The others watch the interaction from the bullpen, pretending to not get teary eyed. Their favorite Gen Z Kid will come back to them after all.

i made rainer and elise months and months ago, to be pretty models for my photoshoots and cc previews. then when i took pics for the tuxedo outfit i made, i got the idea for them to be an actual couple. recently i gave some more thought to them as characters :3 i will share some facts about them below the cut however i’m still figuring out their story as i go along. be warned it’s a very long and somewhat disorganized read lol don’t feel obligated to read this thesis if you don’t have the patience to!
also i reused 1 pic bc it’s cute 🥺
--
rainer is an athletic and outdoorsy person. he loves sports, being in nature, and taking photos of his adventures with his dslr camera. he is also a foodie and takes his weekly cheat meals very seriously. when at home, he likes to play strategy and puzzle-solving video games, or lay on the couch with a good novel. his job is fast-paced and he sometimes works long days, so he values activities that invigorate him and relax him. he doesn’t use social media very much for privacy reasons and has no interest in being a public figure. he is 30 years old.
in college, he studied computer science and took additional courses in criminology and sociology. he currently works as a cybersecurity analyst at a consulting firm, but most people have no idea what that means, so he usually just says he works in “finance” or “consulting” when asked. that usually kills any follow-up questions. overall he has a calm, reserved and logical type of personality. he can be assertive and charismatic when it comes to business matters, but in his personal relationships he tends to be more observant and sensitive. having been single for a while, in his moments alone, he misses romantic companionship and the fulfillment of making another person happy.
elise is a creative and outgoing person. she works in the marketing department of an upscale fashion boutique, and runs a painstakingly curated simstagram account in her spare time. being a microinfluencer might as well be her second job. a city girl, fashionista and social butterfly, elise’s calendar is always meticulously scheduled with outings, appointments and blocks of time reserved for social media work. hey, it’s not all for fun, she has a personal brand to maintain, and professional relationships to cultivate! and free makeup and shoes to receive!
in her rare days off, she likes to relax at home by baking, decorating her apartment, and sketching clothes. she is 27 years old, fiercely independent, and living the fabulous life she always dreamed of. however, she sometimes wishes she could slow down and just be her real, unmade-up self around other people. she loves her fun and glamorous job, but the industry can be a painfully shallow and judgmental place. the older she gets, the more she values authenticity in people, a rare trait to come across in her social circle. with her growing social media presence, she also struggles to strike a balance between being relatable and keeping her private life offline. she secretly yearns for deeper connections in her life and finds them hard to make.
rainer and elise both volunteer on weekends for different non-profits, and they first meet at a large joint event held by their organizations. he is instantly smitten with her beauty and radiant personality, and after the event, he asks her out on a date. she is immediately impressed by his gallant demeanor, and happily accepts.
afterwards, unable to get her out of his mind, rainer searches through elise’s public internet presence to learn more about her. in his deep dive, he inadvertently discovers an old burner account on a plastic surgery forum where elise anonymously sought advice about various procedures, shared her insecurities about her appearance, and candidly talked about living as a trans woman: a personal fact she has never been public about. although the account does not contain her real name, enough personal details align for him to put the pieces together. he’s an analyst after all, it’s part of his job to read between the lines and connect the dots. he feels guilty for discovering something he shouldn’t have known, but it doesn’t change his attraction to her. reading her honest and intimate posts about her life only endears her to him. his discovery prompts him to learn how to be more considerate and respectful when dating, and motivates him to show up as a better partner for her.
as they spend more time together and their feelings grow stronger, elise can’t help but hesitate. is she ready for a serious relationship after remaining single by choice for years? is she ready to give up her freedom to make someone else her priority? and the million dollar question: what if he can’t accept her for who she is? she remembers the pain and disappointment of rejection from her previous failed relationships. but just because dating is hard and messy and complicated, it doesn’t mean she should never try again... right? in front of her was a mature, sincere and grounded guy who seemed to check all her boxes so far. it is scary to be honest and vulnerable with someone especially when you haven’t done it in a long time. her developing relationship with rainer forces her to confront her insecurities about herself and her fear of opening up to other people.
rainer senses her hesitation, but doesn’t know how to relieve her doubts without jeopardizing their relationship. he thinks she would be horrified if she realized how much he knew about her, and his violation of her privacy would shatter her trust in him. he is certain that he wants to pursue a serious relationship with her: every moment they spend together just feels easy and blissful and right. he can’t risk losing her, so all he can do is prepare for the day when she trusts him enough to open up, and finally show her she has nothing to be afraid of.
he also feels morally torn: was he wrong for thoroughly screening his prospective date’s background, back when they were relative strangers? her information was openly available on the internet. and did elise have to know what he had done? what really matters is their strong, genuine connection, right? the guilt of violating her privacy weighs on his conscience and he tries to make up for this by approaching her with extra care and attention at all times. he just hopes his actions won’t blow up in his face when she eventually has The Talk with him.
--
so yeah that’s where i’m at. TWO CHARACTERS WHO WANT TO SAY THINGS TO EACH OTHER BUT CAN’T. TWO CHARACTERS WHO HAVE STRONG FEELINGS FOR EACH OTHER AND DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT!!!! romance. yearning. tenderness. drama. i wrote a lot more in my google doc. thanks for reading if you did 😩

A Certain Romance (2/6)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Bucky x Reader
Word Count: 1,685
Warnings: not rlly anything
A/N: a lil bit of a deeper dive for these two’s relationship👀... enjoy!
MAIN MASTERLIST | A CERTAIN ROMANCE MASTERLIST
Your apartment is nice. Very you.
Sam invited him out to some restaurant, but after the last one he suggested, he decided to pass. And when Sam asked him what he was doing instead, if he was seeing you, Bucky lied and said yes. It made Sam happy and got him out of going to another ridiculous restaurant, so he saw it as a win-win.
Once Sam left, though, his thoughts did drift to what you were doing.
You two exchanged numbers at the pizza place after your date, but you two haven’t texted much. He texted you making sure you got home safe, which you did, and a day or so after, you texted him a picture of some advertisement with an awfully cheesy pick-up line written on it, which even he agreed was awful.
But that’s about it. So, he texts you.
Hey. What are u doing?
About to make dinner. Y?
Told Sam I was seeing u. Wanna hang out?
Come over.
Simple enough, he thinks.
You two haven’t had the most meaningful text conversations, clearly, but it’s still nice. No flirting, no typing and retyping messages in order to hook, line, and sinker, no ghosting. No relationship texting.
It was a dream for him. To have a new friend. He’s made plenty of friends, both in New York and in Wakanda. But it’s all under the same… umbrella. Always an agent, a fighter, an analyst of some sort. Someone to train with, to fight with, to fight for. Never someone like you. Someone that works a mundane job and lives in a mundane part of New York where her weekends are filled with going on mundane blind dates or otherwise cooking dinner for one.
It’s a breath of fresh air to not talk about fighting or missions or press or media or anything else he has to hear about at work. The only connection you have with Sam is that you met in a coffee shop a few years ago that has since closed down. He was one of your first friends here.
You could care less about Captain America, too. Which hurts Sam’s ego, and in turn, makes Bucky smile.
So, he goes over to yours.
He’s not sure what you’re making, but he brings a bottle of red wine as a courtesy. You are making dinner after all. Besides, women love wine, right?
Your apartment is nice. Very you.
Enough going on to show that someone does indeed live here, but also enough to show that you’re not exactly swimming in riches, like most people that live in this city.
The place smells like garlic and basil, and he’s glad that he brought the wine.
Shoes discarded at the door, he helps chop up the rest of the ingredients while you put a pot of water to boil. He chops up mushrooms, onion, pancetta, eyeing the bottle of vodka out on the table and tube of tomato paste next to his hand.
It's an understatement to say he’s excited. Most of the pasta he makes is from a bag of precooked noodles and a jar of tomato sauce.
Basic small talk floats through the air as the two of you dance around one another in the kitchen. Even though you’re “dating”, you don’t know much about each other. This isn’t too uncommon from how dating was for Bucky when he was a teenager; you’d marry women knowing very little about them.
Your favorite color is orange. You played violin in grade school. You had a childhood dog named Chowder. Bucky tells you his favorite color is green. He played a little bit of piano when he was younger, but did boxing in his late teens and early twenties before the war. You poke fun at him when he can’t remember the name of his own childhood dog.
“He’s probably rolling over in dog-heaven.”
“Good boy; he’d deserve a treat.”
You laugh.
Easy conversation continues on the couch as bowl after bowl of pasta is eaten and replenished. As fun and seemingly simple questions are asked, like each of your favorite movies or whether or not you pour the milk before the cereal, the room that’s left is used for deeper questions.
“What’s your most embarrassing moment?” You ask him.
He thinks for a moment before opening his mouth, only to close it again. “One time when Princess Shuri was fixing my arm it wasn’t secure completely, so it flew off while I was playing with some of the children.”
“That’s not your most embarrassing moment. I know it’s not, now you have to tell me what it really is.” You tease him.
He’s never been the best liar.
“You’re right, it’s not my most embarrassing moment. My actual most embarrassing moment is just kind of… sad. And I didn’t want to ruin the mood or anything.” He explains, hoping you’ll accept that but instead you give him an encouraging smile to hopefully give him some comfort that whatever it is he wants to tell you is safe in your apartment.
“Okay, uhm. So, in the 40’s, after I was rescued by Steve, but before we shipped out again where I was recaptured for the second and final time. We were all holed up in this little dance club, all the soldiers and their gals. And in walks Peggy Carter in a pretty red dress,” He begins, only glancing at your eyes periodically as if to make sure you’re still there.
“I know she’s Steve’s gal, he told me all about her. I wasn’t flirting with her because I wanted her, I was flirting with her… to make sure I still could. I mean, after being held in that… place… they injected me with stuff, told me things that weren’t true, I mean Steve told me I was repeating my number over and over again when he found me, I didn’t even remember doing that. I felt… violated, used, not like myself. I felt like I wasn’t me anymore.
“So, when Peggy walked in, I thought about how everyone always called me a ladies man, how good I was with women, I mean, I’d take girls out about every damn weekend, you know? I wanted to feel normal, so I flirted with her, tried to get her to dance with me. And she completely ignored me. She never even took her eyes off of Steve. It’s like I was invisible. And it just sort of felt like the nail in the coffin for whoever James Barnes was before the war. It was a realization that I’m never going to be that person again. And it was embarrassing for me.” He explains.
He hasn’t looked up at you again, but he heard your fork stop moving around your bowl a minute or so ago. He feels a lump in his throat thinking about that time, how he knew he’d never get back the man he was, even before knowing what was in store for him after falling off that train. How he used to be this man that wanted a long, happy marriage, six or seven kids running around a big backyard, a white picket fence surrounding a big two-story house in a neighborhood of identical homes. He wanted the cheesy life, at one point. But the same man that wanted that life died falling off a train many years ago.
All of that’s forgotten, though, when you open your mouth, and seem to say the perfect thing to make him feel better.
“One time in the third grade, this girl pulled my skirt down in front of my crush, and I wasn’t wearing any undies.”
A snort escapes his throat as you, somehow, after he’s shared something so deeply personal, something he never even told Steve or Sam about, still found a way to make him laugh. Which is what he wanted, he realizes. The comfort of moving on from that confession and not having to wallow in it like other people would try to. His hand leaves his fork to cover his face as tears threaten to leak out from how hard he’s laughing.
He took that secret to the grave, even if it wasn’t his own. He told himself he’d never tell Steve about how he felt in that situation, and he never did. He never told Steve that he didn’t enlist, either. He couldn’t imagine how Steve would’ve felt knowing that the army would’ve rather taken men that didn’t want to go to war, men who were terrified to go to war, had too much to lose and wanted to be selfish and stay home, than men like Steve who would do anything to enlist. Including lying on the damn enlistment form.
He wonders if Steve is looking at him now. Watching over him as he shares something that he never did with his best friend, with you, a girl he’s met barely a week ago, on your couch over bowls of pasta while he points out leftover sauce on the corner of your lip.
“What’s your greatest fear?” He asks you next.
“Dying alone. Actually, no. Getting kidnapped, probably.”
“Oh, mine’s spiders.” He shares.
It’s so easy to laugh with you, he finds. He jokes with Sam a lot, all the bickering and teasing all in good fun at the end of the day, and it’s mostly pretty funny. But laughing with you. He feels like a teenager again. Somehow, everything is funny; he doesn’t remember the last time he’s laughed so much, especially about things that aren’t even that funny.
It’s raining at the end of the night. Early morning, rather.
“You can take the couch, if you’d like.”
“Nah, I don't mind a little rain, and I like the ride home.” He fed Alpine before he left, but he imagines his cat misses him, even if she’s probably busy licking herself to even notice he’s left.
“Suit yourself.”
You don’t push him. A simple pleasure that’s more of a luxury for him. There’s no pushing or convincing or Are you sure’s with you.
Certainly a luxury, you are.

5 Ways to Know if Your Product Concept is a Winner
Tumblr media
Hundreds of brand-new products launch monthly. Just a fraction of those gets enough traction to be considered effective.
Naturally, there are the exemptions-- the outbreak successes that most of us become aware of: Snapchat, Uber, and certainly Pokémon Go.
Although that's not likely to be your product, you can still knock it out of the park. But how do you test market demand early to understand if your concept is a winner?
Throughout my occupation, I've assisted release a dozen effective software including GoToMeeting, AppFolio, and also ProductPlan. I have learned five effective methods that entrepreneurs make use of to find out whether their product will be successful-- before they launch their product.
These methods won't assure success, but will dramatically increase your odds. In my case, these techniques led to products that today currently create numerous countless dollars in revenue yearly. see also InventHelp gets great inventions from the mind to the market
1. Before Anything Else, Locate an Issue Worth Resolving
Before investing a cent on growth, I speak with 10-20 possible consumers to understand the problem I'm solving. This is before I tell them concerning the product features, prices, or just how it's going to change their lives.
I call these "trouble exploration" meetings. They're comprehensive conversations, often performed personally, and last in between 30-60 minutes. They're developed to not just extensively comprehend the troubles but to find out whether the trouble is worth resolving in the first place. A problem needs to be high sufficient on a consumer's top priority list to be thinking about your item.
For example, in the very early interviews for GoToMeeting we found out that other online conference items were awkward, feature puffed up, as well as difficult to budget. By extensively understanding these troubles, we established a product that was less complicated to use, with fewer features, with all-you-can-use rates. Within a short time, that product became a smash hit success.
In very early conversations with customers as well as capitalists, numerous entrepreneurs lead with the product summary and functions. I think this is a mistake-- by not understanding the problem extensively, numerous products fizzle. I assume the solitary crucial trick to item success is asking the right questions regarding their issues.
Here are some concerns you can utilize to recognize whether the issue is necessary sufficient to solve:
" Just how are you fixing that problem today?"
" What is most irritating concerning your current remedy?"
" Where is solving this trouble on your concern listing?"
" If you resolve that issue, how much money will you save/make?"
" What does an effective year for you look like?"
2. It's Not a Service Unless You Can Offer
Numerous entrepreneurs introduce their item and also after that question why their sales are anemic. Exactly how do you understand beforehand whether consumers will pay for your item?
In my experience, knowing how to sell the item in a repeatable means is more important than the product itself. In a feeling, you're verifying sales, not simply validating a product.
For every single effective item I've launched, I formerly had test-sold the item to a minimum of 20 clients. My belief is entrepreneurs do not need a totally useful item to discover whether clients will purchase. My early examination sales are frequently from a slide deck or a harsh prototype.
By test-selling, you can learn about the sales cycle, whether your target customer is the real decision-maker, whether they have a budget to purchase, as well as better fine-tune your rates. Find out more advice by check out InventHelp inventions
If you don't have sales skills or can't manage denial, get over it, and also pick up the phone.
3. Customer Purchase Prices are the Trick to Success
You have seen it before: Incredible products that release with a bang and then could not attain enough traction to make the numbers pencil out. Numerous business owners don't extensively understand just how they will certainly get customers and then how much those consumers will cost to get.
The guideline is straightforward: A customer's procurement expense needs to be dramatically less than their lifetime value. So numerous entrepreneurs go in blind on these standard metrics when introducing items. There are very easy as well as cost-effective experiments that you can utilize to test purchase prices.
At ProductPlan, before we had created any kind of line of code, we established a touchdown page. This primitive web site was designed to check whether anyone was searching for software applications like ours as well as to find out whether the messaging we had defined resonated with our target audience.
We then drove website traffic to the touchdown web page making use of Google Adwords and LinkedIn Ads. We targeted item managers with search phrases that they might make use of to look for a remedy like ours. Once they pertained to our touchdown web page they were motivated to register for an early version of our product.
The experiment was a success because we discovered a lot concerning the purchase cost-- how much it cost to bring somebody to our website, the clickthrough price on advertising and marketing, what percent of people registered for more info, as well as extra.
Via this process, we might roughly estimate the conversion rates as well as purchase prices for every step of the sales channel.
Maybe extra significantly, these potential customers gave their get in touch with information. We then reached out to them to have much deeper conversations about the problem, item attributes, as well as rates.
It was a goldmine of information, as well as we spent less than $1,000 on this straightforward experiment.
4. Know This: Your Original Product Concept is Possibly Wrong
For every single product I've created, the end product we launched was dramatically various from the original idea we began with. Through meetings as well as experiments, we were able to test our assumptions, throw out poor suggestions, reveal cutting-edge features, and tweak our prices.
When we were confirming ProductPlan, we thought our market would certainly be limited to item managers at the software application business. By talking with loads of product managers we uncovered our market was a lot wider and also included business in media, health care, retail, and extra.
Commonly business owners invest an extreme amount of time on company plans and also spreadsheets that are a work of fiction. Or worse, they release their item based on their original suggestion and afterward lose time as well as resources transforming the item and rates to much better fit their market. That's in reverse.
Business owners can obtain closer to the truth-- and construct a better product-- by examining their assumptions before introducing them. Several misuses the "Lean Start-up" technique to throw pasta against a wall surface and also after that wish that people buy. And also when people do not buy (or buy in low numbers) the business owner wastes beneficial time.
Rotating your item ideas throughout this very early validation as opposed to after you have built the product is considerably more affordable.
The method entrepreneurs can test their presumptions: create them down and then go out to check them to see if they resonate with potential consumers specialists (for example, analysts for the industry, individuals who have been employed by the industry, experts, and so on). A healthy and balanced dosage of suspicion goes a long way.
5. Perfect is the Enemy of Great-- Simply Launch Your Item Concept
I'm a believer that business owners should embark on the cliff. This implies, especially for software, that you must introduce as early as feasible.
Reid Hoffman, the creator of LinkedIn, notoriously stated, "If you are not embarrassed by the first version of your product, you have introduced far too late."
I'm not stating that you don't have a terrific first-time client experience. Commonly individuals do not offer you a 2nd opportunity if your product simply does not work. Yet if you are addressing an issue that allows enough, consumers will certainly forgive you if the experience isn't excellent.
With software, in particular, it's feasible to introduce swiftly with a marginal function set if the product supplies adequate worth. If a handful of clients are willing to pay, it suffices and you can enhance gradually.
Launching very early gives you no much better method to determine if you are on the right track. Many entrepreneurs waste time by attempting to assume every situation, please every consumer, as well as make sure every function is included.
A business owner I understand was passionate regarding launching a new mobile application he was certain would certainly be popular. He spent months developing it. He spent countless dollars on mobile programmers and also ultimately took out a second mortgage on his residence to place the finishing touches on the application before releasing. As soon as he ultimately introduced, he was shocked he had so a couple of downloads. It was a depressing, expensive lesson.
Entrepreneurs need to invest even more of their time at the front end-- discovering the troubles out there and validating whether someone will certainly purchase the product-- before they build as well as launch. If you do a reliable task at this front end, the building and introducing the product comes to be so much easier. You're also acquiring evidence for prospective financiers.
There is no other way to methodically recognize with assurance whether you'll succeed. By using these techniques and also launching early you can enhance your probabilities drastically.

MAG π: Gallery
Statement of Josh Wheeler, regarding an art gallery.
Inspired by this post by @sexchangelingcastiel, I wrote my own original statement about it!
Content warnings: large spaces, disassociating
See this also on ao3! Link is in the source
I don't understand abstract art, nor the people who appreciate it. They're just color and lines and shapes all randomly splotched onto something and called "art". A child could make some random paint splatters on paper and to me it would look the same as those abstract artworks hung up in galleries. I don't see how people could look at one of those splotches of color and lines and call it art and see some deeper meaning in them. They just don't make any sense!
Or maybe it's just me. I've always had trouble looking into the deeper, hidden details in art or poetry or writing, to me it's just at that. No metaphor for this, no symbolism for that. Trying to look further into something just confuses me. Besides, it's not like I'm going to be an art curator or art historian or literature analyst, so why should I bother reading into things?
But I had to go to that weird abstract modern art gallery. Not my fault. A close friend, Spencer, wanted to go and apparently I was the only one in our friend group who had a schedule clear for the day.
I wasn't planning on doing anything that day and was bored out of my skull but I really didn't want to go. However, as a Good Friend, and perhaps to see if This Time I could finally see into art and figure out the meanings of them, and maybe to get to spend some time with him, I went.
It was a small building. A collection of abstract art from various artists all over, curated by Mx. Halley Hiraishi, some painter they know that's apparently slightly known in the world of art, mostly digital art. Not that I'm undermining his artist abilities, I really just don't know them due to lack of ~artistic knowledge~.
Anyway we went inside and were greeted by Halley Hiraishi themself. He even offered to tour us around the gallery themself. Of course Spencer obliged. They asked us to call him Hiraeth.
He gave us a bit of information about things we looked at for a bit, typical art gallery stuff. I couldn't really get into their explanations having no knowledge of art appreciation or anything, but Spencer seemed to be really interested and listened intently.
I found myself wandering around the room a bit while Spencer and Hiraeth had a lively conversation about the meaning of some sculpture made out of old book paper, something about how the book supposedly contain supernatural power and someone repurposed the book into a sculpture to nullify its effects and to represent how humanity is ever evolving and trash can be art or whatever.
They didn't seem to notice me not-paying attention and I instead looked idly at the different displays. I made sure though to turn back every so often just so I wouldn't get separated from my friend and our guide.
I don't know why but the paintings with their swirls and spirals and patterns, they sort of had a kind of hypnotizing effect about them. Like they were those optical illusions designed to trick the eye. I couldn't stop looking at them.
When I did pry my eyes off of the displays, I realized that Spencer and Hiraeth were no longer in the room. I must've gone into another room without realizing it.
I turned back to where I came, but got into yet another room. In this place the sculptures and paintings seemed slightly bigger somehow, and figured maybe they just sorted the different areas by size.
Still, I tried to go to other areas of the place, that I just knew led back to the entrance, only to lead right into another room. All while the paintings and sculptures and art, and even the room, seemed to grow bigger. I realized that I was in fact lost, which shouldn't even make sense considering the small size of the building.
I didn't know how long I've wandered in those ever increasing rooms and art, but at one point I was in a room so large, like the floor area of a mall at least. The paintings were massive, bigger than murals! My mind just spun thinking about how Hiraishi could have even painted or sculpted or collected such things.
I figured I shouldn't go anywhere else if the rooms were only going to get larger, so I sat down and tried to think of what to do, or maybe to tell myself that I must be dreaming, this wasn't real.
It shouldn't even make sense, I mean for a small building it shouldn't have been able to fit all those rooms that got increasingly larger. All while I was just walking on the same floor! I wanted to think that for some reason there was this shrinking illusion that was supposed to be some performance art that made you think you were shrinking, but no, the doors were still sized for me to fit in, for a human to fit in, and the windows-- yes! The windows! I thought at that point that I could maybe climb through the window and get out.
But as I went to look out the window, all I could see was the cityscape, so miniscule it could be compared to that of a map. I couldn't jump off a height that high, and even so, from what I know I was walking along the first floor all this time! How would I end up so high up? And even then the building was about four stories high at most! There shouldn't be a reason for a four story building to have the fourth floor at this height!
I didn't know how long I was in that room. It was just me staring at the tiny details of the painting now in front of me, getting lost in those splotches of paint that didn't make sense. I thought that if Spencer were with me he'd probably say something like, "we're just the size of a small spot of paint and the bigger picture is so massive. From this perspective it almost seems like a comparison to how small life is and how unimportant things are; they're always part of a grander picture. How unimportant a detail is from our tiny perspective. It didn't matter, how small we all are, how insignificant as a small speck in a place of art."
I would've been surprised that for the first time my mind tried to look at a detail and gave it a meaning, but during that time all I could think about was how much I missed Spencer.
He would've enjoyed trying to insert and shove metaphors into every single bit, trying to give meaning and identity to something so abstract and meaningless, if they were there but me? I hated every second of it, couldn't stand the place and its little metaphors and abstractions that messed with my head.
I tried to go through the door I once came through and once again in the hope that I would finally end up back in the small space of the building I once entered, only to end up in a room whose size was so huge I couldn't fully comprehend its size. I felt like the size of an ant in a large, human sized room.
I wanted to scream, I wanted to yell in frustration and so I did. Didn't even make an impact; the room absorbed it in. The room was nothing but a void of paintings.
And then I saw it, out of the corner of my eye, a figure stepping into a yellow door out of sight! It even seemed like it was Hiraeth who went in there, and I would've followed except...the door seemed to be part of a painting, a massive one that's also been left to dry. The crisp and clear image of the door seemed to be out of place for an abstract, but I saw it! Someone used that door! I went up to the painting in question...and tried to touch it.
At first all my hand felt was the thick acrylic paint. Yellow and black - the handle was painted black - but then I felt something metallic underneath that felt like an actual door handle - so it wasn't an illusion! - I turned the handle and felt the door open up slightly and in my desperation to just get out of the place I flung myself there. I felt myself collide with a wall of paint but I just had the strongest feeling it would get me out of that void.
And it did. Next thing I know I was being woken up by Spencer and Hiraeth looking over at me worriedly. I was sitting near the painting I think I went through, now normal sized and untouched. I want to believe it was just some dream, that perhaps I fell asleep and collapsed, but here's the thing - I was mostly covered in still wet acrylic paint.
While Spencer seemed a bit perplexed as to how I got covered in paint, Hiraeth seemed to be unfazed by it and simply offered a tip that acrylic can wash out of clothes as long as it's still wet. I was still a bit confused by it all and simply did what I was told.
At some point a few days later I tried to explain what happened. He apologized for giving me a rough time but I really didn't care. He seemed to have a good time there and I told him that that's what mattered.
Anyway, about the whole experience thing. While we both had a conversation that we ultimately chalked up to a dream, we still couldn't explain the paint thing, and so he suggested I go here, tell my story for maybe an investigation or whatever you guys do with stories. I just want to get it all behind me.

Star Wars: The High Republic #2 Review
Ultimately a 7.5 out of 10, this installment was slightly better because of how Cavan Scott decided to advance the plot. While there some are nice nuggets of good-story telling and character interactions, even worse than last time, it’s bogged down with cardinal errors that truly make me question Scott’s competency as a writer for this story.
Tumblr media
The issue comes right off the back end of Keeve being promoted to a Master Jedi and chronicles her first mission in the position. She is still dealing with the growing pains of what it means to be a Jedi which is depicted with her ongoing internalized self-doubt as well as her difficulty expressing certain Jedi mantras, such as “May the Force be with you.” Arguably exacerbating this bottled up uncertainty are the Keeve-proclaimed legends of Jedi Masters Sskeer, and identical Kobati twins Terec and Ceret. These twins are Bond-twins and as so are able to share the same mind and experiences of each other.
Tumblr media
As they exit “hyperspace” (more on that later), the four masters come across the leftover demise of a ship that has been attacked. The Jedi were tasked with responding to the scrambled distress call that the ship had sent out sometime ago but, it seems as if they arrived too late. Both Keeve and one of the twins, using the Force, are able to sense survivors within the ransacked ship. As so, they board and enter.  Almost as soon as they are inside, they are met with poisonous Nihilian ovax gas and utilize a device called “rebreathers” to mitigate the effects.  Fully aware that the Nihil have raided this ship, they continue their investigation and split up to cover more ground. Traversing in groups of two, Terec – who is accompanying Sskeer – can sense the Trandoshan experiencing extreme trauma which means that Ceret can feel it as well via their bond; specifically, Sskeer is having flashbacks to the exact moment he lost his arm in the Battle of Kur.
Tumblr media
On Keeve’s side of things, she and Ceret come across the corpses of a Hutt and Gamorrean guards. Upon further examination, it seems the Hutt was killed via an amalgam of stab wounds, blaster bolts, and nagnol poisoning – the latter being a toxic natural gas, capable of disrupting starship sensors, poisoning beings based on dosage, and a key element in the Nihil smokescreen.
Tumblr media
On Sskeer’s end, he comes across a barley crop and together the Jedi deduce that the Hutt was capitalizing on the grain shortage that has occurred thanks to the Great Disaster. As the twins work on trying to ascertain where exactly the crop came from, Ceret is attacked by a Nihil that has been left behind; this causes both twins to feel the pain but, the wounds are not fatal. Sskeer charges ahead and chases after the Nihil raider, who is already suffering from serious injuries previously sustained in the raid. While Sskeer is perturbed that he cannot sense the attacker he is able to fatally strike down the assailant; coming to gripes that he has just killed, Sskeer goes on a rampage and continually slashes the bifurcated carcass only be brought back to his senses when Keeve addresses him.
Tumblr media
Afterward, the Masters relay their findings to Marshall Avar Kriss and with the analysis from Master Maru, come to the conclusion that the barley – specifically Vratixia Renanicus – is a key ingredient in bacta; moreover, the shipment likely came from the Sedri System – principally, Sedri Minor. With this in mind, Kriss assigns Sskeer and Ceret to got to Sedri while she and Jedi Master Rwoh convene with Keeve and Terec to collect the Hutt ship that is breaking trading sanctions. Keeve moves to go with Sskeer but, Sskeer stonewalls her to stay with Terec.
Tumblr media
Arriving on the planet, Sskeer is met with unwecolmedness by a citizen, Kalo Sulman who makes it clear that the Jedi’s presence will interfere with the colony’s independence. As the two are discussing, Ceret sees a Rodian in the crops motioning him to come over – as Ceret goes deep into the brush he is attacked by Drengir.
Tumblr media
Back on the ship, Kriss and Keeve are discussing the remains of the corpse that Sskeer has left; Kriss reprimands Keeve for not telling her sooner but, also admonishes herself for not looking deeper into the signs the Force were giving her – such as not being able to hear Sskeer’s “song”.
Tumblr media
As this happens, Terec – who is being medically assessed by Rwoh – screams out in pain feeling his brother’s anguish and relays this to Kriss. Kriss immediately contacts Sskeer and asks if Ceret is with him; when Sskeer realizes that the twin is gone rushes into the fields only to find his lightsaber.
Tumblr media
What I liked:
A growing plot pivoting off of the bacta manufacturing that was touched on by Jedi Grandmaster Veter; this is much welcomed world building within the parameters that is the High Republic.
A very competent and aptly written investigation, analysis, and deductive reasoning done by the Jedi as a whole. The way the Jedi got on the ship, looked for clues, relayed their information to the data analyst/forensic expert, and hash out a plan to go to the planet where the clue originated from was great and definitely resonated with the idea that these Jedi are analogous to Texas Rangers. They certainly seemed like proto-Jedi investigators, not unlike future Jedi Master Tera Sinube.
The continued delving into Jedi Master Sskeer. I like the balancing act that is being conducted with his character. He’s a virtuous being that is dealing with trauma but, that doesn’t, ultimately, stop him from being a Jedi – it just tests it. He is still a “knight” and applies that chivalry when it needs to shine. Witnessing his accident and how it is affecting his psyche, ability to use the Force, and his morality is the highlight of this issue. This is what should be focused on to establish WHY Keeve looks up to him – give her these thoughts in accordance with herself doubt.
Tumblr media
The dynamics of Ceret and Terec as interconnected Force Twins (could be seen as “Dyad Force-bond” inspired). Their link is a double-edged sword that reminds me of the Tomax and Xamot Paoli from Cobra Command. The original Star Wars was centered around Force sensitive twins and it’s nice to see that element played with more here – haven’t really seen that since the Mikkian twin sisters – Tiplee and Tiplar – in Clone Wars.
The holster to the lightsabers – it’s a nice, subtle way to convey how the Jedi of this era are more in a time of peace and reservation. To have a weapon holstered means that they have to take the extra moment to consider brandishing it. This underlying detail syncs really well with the time period considering that most of their enemies would be lifeforms and could be reasoned with – “life is precious.”
This can be seen as succinct yet distinct dichotomy between this era Jedi and the Skywalker Saga Jedi, as their sabers were without a holster and normally fashioned around the hips allowing for both instant access and draw in an age encompassed by war with droids – “droids are replaceable.”
Tumblr media
What I disliked:
The application of Keeve’s personality traits continues to feel like a mismatch for the particular time period and volk she supposedly has been training and studying with; Ezra Bridger – who by the High Republic’s standards would not even be a Jedi – acts more like a Jedi than Keeve does. If anything, the uncertainty, quirks, and misapplication of Jedi traditions would have fit Ezra WAY more than it does (or really doesn’t) with Keeve. The concept itself is fine but, the iteration is what is flawed. Keeve is fast feeling more like a Jedi from post revenge Revenge of the Sith – like Kanan Jarrus – that a High Republic Jedi.
The sloppy fan service – there is a scene not only of a Hutt but, the Hutt is dead with its tongue out, surrounded by dead Gamorrean guards. It would be one thing if we just had a dead Hutt, I can even look past the Gamorrean guards (even though it would be nice if we saw this race in more roles than guards – there are some but, it does seem like guards is niche as far as the universe is concerned) but, to also have the Hutt dead with its tongue out to me just screams “DO YOU REMEMBER THAT ONE SCENE IN RETURN OF THE JEDI WITH JABBA?!!!” Just, how much are you going to dilute a reference? Make the fan service substantive and or just not in your face – the Rodian luring Ceret is a good version of fan service; present, notable, but not impeding in terms of the narrative.
Tumblr media
What I Marked Off:
The completely wrong depiction of hyperspace; Star Wars Hyperspace is blue and certainly not immersed in stars when one is traveling through it. This error is on the very first page of the issue. This shook me to my very core and yanked me out of the immersion. IT’S THE FIRST PAGE! HOW DOES ONE MESS UP ON THE FIRST PAGE?!!! To add grave insult to mortal injury, hyperspace is a FOCAL element of the High Republic Era – you CAN NOT mess this up. Ultimately, it’s a team mess up but, Scott gets the brunt of this reprimand because this is his story and arguably his script is the one that should be guiding the artist.
Tumblr media
The fact that Scott continues to fail to make the necessary references about crucial dynamics, events, and positions within this era. I had to learn from a YouTube video (link below) that Sskeer is actually the “Steward” to Kriss’ Marshall role. As of issue #3, this position is still not established to be held by Sskeer which is a real shame as it adds more substance and weight to his plight as a perturbed Jedi. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPeRcyJE5dk&feature=emb_title
In summary, this issue was a 7.5 out of 10; slightly better than issue one because of how the writer decided to advance the plot and who he decided to advance the plot with. The genuinely good moments of story-telling are bogged down by ineptitude that can literally throw one out of the immersion. Nonetheless, if you can tolerate the faults there are elements to enjoy, especially when it comes to the characters. I hope those elements promptly become prominent.
