Happy (slightly belated) Halloween, everybody! I’ve been wicked busy this term but I managed to put together some new screens for The Cabinet. Some musical snippets and other assorted bits n bobs to follow :) 🎃🕹️❤️
I am so not normal about amnesia was her name by lemon demon. The speaker becomes less and less coherent throughout the song, but he always remembers a girl who he calls Amnesia with some positive association. She is his doctor, his caregiver, his partner. When he has surgery, presumably for a brain tumor, he wakes up and Amnesia is gone. He can't remember who she is or, even worse, she was never real. Neil Cicierega are you fucking okay
could we get more info on amnesia? she seems an interesting lady, thank you :)
Sure!
Amnesia- the anthropomorphic personification of memory loss. She appears to TJ Tillinghast (whose point of view the song is from) after he concusses himself falling down a flight of stairs. Though initially bemused by his romantic overtures, she eventually reciprocates TJ’s feelings, to the point that she realizes that they have to ‘break up’ before her presence permanently injures him. Her last act is to coax him into going to the hospital to have his ‘mind repaired’, after which she disappears.
Assorted facts n stuff under the cut.
While she has always technically existed, Amnesia only became consciously aware of herself and other people when perceived by TJ. His perception of her is what allowed her to have a sort of presence (however ephemeral) on our plain of existence. After TJ is healed, she returns to being the abstract concept of memory loss (though TJ seems to have been able to retain some kind of recollection of her, suggesting that she isn’t quite gone…).
During her brief stint as a semi-tangible being, Amnesia was visible to other people (though immediately forgotten once out of their line of sight) and was able to interact with physical objects, including being able to share a plate of spaghetti with TJ.
Her general appearance is based on the doctor who performed TJ’s top surgery, but her features fluctuate between a number of half-remembered women the harder TJ tries to concentrate on her. The only thing that doesn’t change is her eyes; these are the first part of her that TJ glimpses when he perceives her for the first time.
Despite being brain injury incarnate, Amnesia was surprisingly pleasant and patient; she described her function as ‘holding onto’ the contents of TJ’s memory for him.
my first concept art for her had her spaghetti-hair down, fully obscuring her face with only her eyes visible among the noodles. There was also a period where she had a hovering slice detached from her head. The final psychedelic look was somewhat inspired by the women in the Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds segment of the Yellow Submarine movie.
haha i forgot my name, but i will always remember the way you smiled when you said it. (forgive me if this isn’t really a pickup line, i am an aro ace)
