Varian: They say revenge is best served cold. And that it's sweet. So revenge is basically ice cream.
Hugo: ... Varian? What are you up to?
Varian: ... I'm going out for ice cream.
Hugo: Goggles, NO.
Varian: You want some ice cream too?
Hugo: ... Sure.
*Two hours later*
Cass: Why are you both carrying boxes of toilet paper and eggs?
Hugo: We're getting ice cream.
Varian (Loads Toilet Paper Launcher): Yep. Ice cream.
Cass: Can I get in on this? I like ice cream.😈
*Another two hours later*
Eugene: Okay. Please tell me. Why did you toilet paper and egg Doctor St Croix house?
Cass, Hugo, Varian (Matter of factly): Ice cream.
Eugene (Sarcastically): Of course! That answers everything!

Fans of DnD Rangers and the game Roadwarden, behold! I've put together a subclass of DnD 5e's Ranger and built it around the main character from the text-based adventure Roadwarden. Like the game, this subclass provides a lot of freedom in "forging your own path" as you get to decide when and where you gain certain class features along with what to do with said abilities once they're in your hand.

I like to think of Ed becoming an alchemy teacher post ending.
I imagine him teaching in a more traditional classroom rather than someone who takes on apprentices. He starts the year by telling the kids that he is the Fullmetal Alchemist to show off and seem cool and no one believes him, Ed ends up having to prove it by showing official documents (or something idk) stating Edward Elric is the Fullmetal Alchemist and all the kids stay convinced he's lying the rest of the year. Of the few kids who believed him, they ask why he was called "fullmetal" and he begrudgingly shows the class the automail that replaces his left leg and some of the kids audibly "Ooh" and "Ahh" at it, most of them likely having never seen automail in person before. Ed brags about how his wife made it for him.
He draws transmutation circles on the chalkboard so perfectly some of the kids think he might be crazy (they're not wrong). He explains transmutations in far too much detail and often times the kids end up gawking at him, not understanding a single word he's saying. He goes on philosophical tangents about our meaning in this world and how we're just a tiny part of it and how beautiful it is and the kids always groan as soon as he starts up again. He tells wild stories of when he was a state alchemist that are so crazy no one believes any of it and vague ones about lessons he's learned, trying not to get too into detail as to not upset the kids but ends up just confusing them instead.
Al comes in sometimes to do the demonstrations and the kids immediately fall in love with him. He's so different from their loud, talkative, hot-headed teacher. On demo days, Ed and Al both go around the room helping kids try and do it themselves. In the days where there's no demo, the students whine about "Mr. Alphonse" not being there. Ed, of course, retaliates with "What, you don't like me? What's he got that I don't?" And is immediately bombarded with the entire class listing off reasons why Al is better.
There's times, though, where Ed has to tell the kids about parts of his past that he wishes he could forget, that he can't use alchemy anymore, that he had to sacrifice a lot. He's like Izumi in the way that he doesn't want them to end up like him but he can't tell them the truth. So he tells them part of the truth; that they must not, under any circumstance, try to bring the dead back to life, that the dead are gone, they can never be brought back, that it is something that humans should have no control over. And the hard part, that even if they try, they won't come back, and you will only be punished for trespassing in God's domain.
But Ed loves his students so much. He knows he would do anything for them so he lets himself be vulnerable sometimes. And even though they act like he's the worst, they all secretly love him too.

So I read the new Asra Tale “The Lost Spell” on Dorian and uh....that was...Not Great.
There were a lot of issues and I ended up thinking about what I would have done differently/how I would change the story while still trying to stick to more or less the core concept of it, and I figured I would share those musings here.
First things first, I would have made this story a more...personal one for Asra and MC involving Asra’s past and his parents. A story where Asra and MC are trying to retrieve something that was lost to his parents...I would have made this story not about a missing spell, but instead about lost alchemical research. Alchemy being the field of expertise for Asra’s parents, blending science and magic, and a field that Asra himself is most likely more unfamiliar with. (You could still make reference to this material/lost alchemical research being relevant to the current efforts to fix Vesuvia’s water system with a mention of how it could have been helpful I dunno)
This ends up being what leads Asra and MC to seek out The Magician for help  after digging for information in the palace records and library havent turned up anything and Asra’s attempts to track via magic havent been fruitful. Thus leading to the hint that what they seek can be found in Asra’s memories.
Instead of skipping straight to being told where to go to find the information, it could have been fun to have Asra and MC searching through the pools in Asra’s gate to find the right memory, giving us fragmentary moments from Asra’s past to witness as a result. Perhaps moments from, for example, when Asra and MC first met, a memory of Asra’s time on the streets with Muriel, the argument Asra and MC had during the plague, etc...until eventually they come across the memory they are looking for...one that is so old as to have been long forgotten by Asra, something a little raw and bittersweet...a memory from when Asra was a small child before he was separated from his parents. In this memory they find the alchemical research they had been searching for in the Alnazar home.
I dunno something along those lines could have been nice, while sticking to the idea of searching for some lost knowledge/magic.

still rolling perinheri around in my head btw. that "the eclipse is swallowed by the crimson moon" line from dainsleif's introduction makes a lot more sense now. lol
#personal stuff#delete later#what's with khaenri'ah's dynasties being moon-based. you guys do not have a moon down there.#or maybe they do? enkanomiya had a fake sun sure but maybe they stole one of the moon sisters' corpses or something idk.#joking. i know there's a line about them glimpsing the sun and the moon in perinheri.#the line about the seas being used as a metaphor for the space projected by the stars... oh mona stars lore we're really in it now#but yeah they really said sorry no dain quest with the march update like normal :( here's some khaenri'ah lore snippets instead#the crimson moon dynasty being all about alchemy and beastmastering... the rifthounds coming from this time...#so rhinedottir's probably from the crimson moon dynasty then.#this means little to me since we have no idea how long the eclipse dynasty lasted before the cataclysm happened#still cool to know more about the dynasties though. khaenri'ah lore that doesn't revolve around the cataclysm my beloved.#i mean it does kind of. it lends context to the cataclysm in that the crimson moon [dynasty] swallowed the eclipse [dynasty]#or at least the legacy of the crimson moon dynasty [alchemy; beastmastering; and likely a connection with the abyss] did that#really curious to know if there was like. political unrest in khaenri'ah based on the two [or more] dynasties vying for power?#hmm. also alberich namedrop in perinheri wooo#diluc and kaeya shaking hands our family name comes from a guy way back when who was a knight!!

"...It seems that I have crafted quite the powerful weapon." She mumbled underneath her breath while holding the heart-shaped bottle holding a bright pink liquid securely in both hands.
Alchemy was something the Traveler had not too much experience with, but she improved her skills quite a bit over the course of the past few days. Some of the potions she made flew off the shelves, earning quite some nice reviews in return.
This potion in particular was special though and would not be sold at the store. From what Lisa told her, its effects are similar to what would commonly be described as an aphrodisiac. Lumine had never intended to make this kind of drink, but it happened by throwing random ingredients together.

Seeing everyone else discuss their names for Scaramouche/Wanderer is making me realize I put too much thought into it
I’m going with “Fujin Ahana” because it’s got layers
Fujin (風神)because duh, the god of wind is connected to Raijin or Raiden. I feel like that’s a pretty self explanatory last name consider how connected the Inazuma lore is to the Shinto pantheon. Honestly if you didn’t know that reference by now and why that’s the main reason they’re anemo, you gotta be living under a rock.
Aahana or Ahana (亜華/天花) is a name that can mean immortal, morning glory, heaven, sky, or flower depending on the language you’re referencing and it’s also a common last name for those of Chinese descent born overseas. I’m going with the Japanese spelling, Wanderer is going to wake up as a reborn person in a new nation that is full of Sanskrit based names, & it’s typically a female name which kinda pokes at Scaramouche’s initial purpose without blatantly calling them a puppet. Most people assume they’re trans, I suspect the same- at least non-binary so I rather play into that without making it too obvious. Also their redesigned hat & Hindu referencing accessories reminds people of the Aranara & being in the dendro nation, it just makes sense to go with a flower based name.
Other names I considered but I figured not too because they might be used as a Sumeru npc name or be associated with someone else & I rather not clarify every time I’m asked are Caelus, Anila, Enlil, Samir, Azure, & Shu. I also went down a list of flower names and saying “fuu-jin ah-hah-nah” & “ah-hah-nah fuu-jin” outloud felt super natural to me.
Btw there’s a rumor their birthday is Jan 3 & I like the idea of naming them Carnation but do you know how silly that would be in terms of the symbolism? They’re learning how to love but he’s not THAT committed. I considered Carna for short but that’s the name of the goddess who protects internal organs and they’re missing a heart 💀
Like go off if you want to name them Scara or Balladeeznutsinyourmouth to each their own but man, I do feel a bit silly spending a few hours looking at baby names now.
#mun post#Genshin Impact#the wanderer#wanderer#scaramouche#oh yeah so also Fujin or Futen tend to be used as last names so yes I’m doing the thing where it’s last than first#but for the en speakers it’d be ahana fujin which also just feels right when you say it out loud#there’s something phonetically pleasing about the combo working both ways#which rarely happens like try saying Kazuha Kadehara or Miku Hatsune out#loud it doesn’t feel right or comfy at all#because phonetically it’s got all the vowels in the wrong places for English#also Ahana is just a nice name to say outloud in Spanish#because you’re really going ah-jah-na#anyways good luck with the names everyone#Tbh I chose not to go with Scara because that’s the name of a real life robot so I was like “man that’s kinda messed up”#also for those wondering the scara bot is the Selective Compliance Articulated Robot Arm#like google it - it’s literally the scara bot#also like Ahana/Wanderer/Scaramouche is sorta immortal in a similar way to Albedo and it makes me wonder how Khaenri’ah tech and alchemy#works so I also considered science based names but since we don’t know what he’s made of exactly I kinda gave up#Albedo = Chalk Sucrose = she experiments on sweet flowers Scaramouche = ?¿metal¿?#there’s a lot of iron ore everywhere but calling Scaramouche Iron Man is fucking funny#on a side note I think my interest in names comes from the fact I got a ridiculous irl name that’s super long and translates to#wise rock of a fort protected by Christ amongst the green valleys#I’m not fucking joking my name is a whole long title to say ‘your name is rock’#if I ever get a name change I’m just going to name myself rock to make it easier
