Mike and Jesse’s relationship makes me insane bc it’s the perfect encapsulation of the tragicomic elements that make Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul so absurdly ingenious. Like this deadly dead-eyed professional hitman only becomes a father figure to this grown adult meth cook because his boss strong-arms him into the Very Serious Drug-Related Business of babysitting said meth cook and building his sense of self-esteem through the power of gold star stickers. And Mike is such a quintessential professional that he gets stuck in character and genuinely comes to love Jesse as his own becoming his least problematic and most influential father figure in the series. But also. Mike is doomed to watch young men reminiscent of his murdered child get chewed up and spit out by a world that holds their innocence in contempt, is killed in an attempt to save Jesse from this fate, and dies believing he failed to do so

Alaska is certainly a lightweight for it I think. Despite how accessible and legal it is, he probably barely ever does it just cuz he’s never feeling like it (also he has pets, he wants to give them attention all the time 🙄 and to Maine, ofc) and this is Colorado’s 5th time doing this smh, he’s damn lucky they didn’t get Alaska into some crazy stuff cuz Maine woulda throttled Coco if so. Man I love drawing many unnecessary lines, it’s fun

bytedubs i am usually pretty open-minded when it comes to other peoples headcanons EXCEPT when they involve jesse dying in alaska sometime in the near future. its not even like a personal bias thing (tho it is that too… i love my boy and want him to Live) it’s just like. i genuinely Cannot conceptualize jesse being dead. characters who are so alive coded they are maybe even a real person

when you make fresh pasta, you have to knead the dough for a long time. generally speaking, it’s not done until you can stick a finger in it and it springs back up again. jesse learns all this for the first time in alaska: of course he used to make lunch for ginny back in abq, but that was Different— it was always easy stuff, grilled cheese and salads and instant hamburger helper. nothing as deliberate as pasta. it’s a while before he’s ready to Cook again, really, with the everything, and those first few weeks are a blur, but eventually he gets hungry. he can’t quite tell if it’s day or night from the thin slats of light passing through the blinds onto his comforter, only that he is awake and there is something empty inside of him. he wanders aimlessly into the kitchen, which is wide-open, spacious. untouched. ed had provided him with enough food for maybe a month— more easy stuff, boxed and frozen and plastic-wrapped— but most of it is gone by now, leaving only ingredients. he finds flour and olive oil in the pantry, eggs in the fridge that still look okay. in one drawer there’s a thin stack of index cards, recipes all in ed’s neat, careful print. he flips through them until he finds one that looks easy: fettuccine alfredo, something he vaguely remembers his mom making when he was a kid. and this is how ellis driscoll begins his new life, swaying alone in an empty kitchen, squinting to read in the early-morning light. he presses into the dough and watches it puff around his finger. something Solid and Real. the first sign of civilization is a healed femur. the first sign of healing is a home-cooked meal. the pasta always springs back.

instead of putting More teams in hot places i think the next expansion team should be in the territories. let yellowknife or iqaluit or whitehorse have a team. i recognize this is impractical as fuck due to the lack of infrastructure and overall total isolation in these areas but um it would be sick so they should let it happen idc

definitely the thing I miss most about living in the US is the random wildlife I would see even around my own neighbourhood. Last time I was there I saw a coyote a few streets from my dad's house which was amazing. But I would regularly see bald eagles, great blue herons, hummingbirds, seals, salmon, obv raccoons (this doesnt seem that crazy now but when I moved there raccoons were an exotic animal to me bc i'd seen it in pocahontas. it was like seeing jasmine's tiger in ur garden). more rarely I've seen sea lions, a porpoise, and once everyone in the neighbourhood gathered to see a snowy owl that was in a tree, that was a Big Moment

Alaska Daily (2022- 2023)
🎬Recently disgraced reporter Eileen Fitzgerald leaves her high-profile New York life behind to join a daily metro newspaper in Anchorage, Alaska, on a journey to find both personal and professional redemption.
📝An intelligent, well written and thought provoking show. It will make you appreciate the important, tough and hard work journalists do. The whole cast is amazing and the main plotline is extremely important. I was sad to learn that ABC network has cancelled this (I suppose we can't have intelligent shows, when you can make mass produced rubbish). It is still worth watching because the story concludes at the end of the season, so you will not be wasting your time.
I hope they will shop it to another network. It's a brilliant show and worth watching. Episode 1 is a little slow, but stick with it, it's a very good series.
