Celtober 2023 Days 10, 11 and 12: Siblings, Medicine, Sacrifice
Now Núadu was being treated, and Dían Cécht put a silver hand on him which had the movement of any other hand. But his son Míach did not like that. He went to the hand and said ‘joint to joint of it, and sinew to sinew’; and he healed it in nine days and nights. The first three days he carried it against his side, and it became covered with skin. The second three days he carried it against his chest. The third three days he would cast white wisps of black bulrushes after they had been blackened in a fire.
Dían Cécht did not like that cure. He hurled a sword at the crown of his son's head and cut his skin to the flesh. The young man healed it by means of his skill. He struck him again and cut his flesh until he reached the bone. The young man healed it by the same means. He struck the third blow and reached the membrane of his brain. The young man healed this too by the same means. Then he struck the fourth blow and cut out the brain, so that Míach died; and Dían Cécht said that no physician could heal him of that blow.
After that, Míach was buried by Dían Cécht, and three hundred and sixty-five herbs grew through the grave, corresponding to the number of his joints and sinews. Then Airmed spread her cloak and uprooted those herbs according to their properties.

Airmed Deity Guide
Tumblr media
Who is Airmed?
Airmed, also spelled Airmid is a member of the Tuatha Dé Danann and an Irish goddess with all of the knowledge of herbalism. She is mentioned in the Second Battle of Magh Tuiredh as she healed those who were injured in the battle. Airmed is one of the deities whose incantations was said to resurrect the dead when sung over the Well of Sláine.
Parents and Siblings
Her father is Dian Cecht, the god of medicine and healing
Her brother is Miach
Cu
Cethen
Cian
Étan the poet
Ochtriullach (Octriuil)
Lovers or Partners
None or not mentioned
Children
None or not mentioned
Epithets
None mentioned, though her name may be an epithet of a forgotten name itself
Notes
Following the death of her brother caused by their own father due to his jealousy over his son’s healing talents, Airmed goes to visit the grave of Miach. There she found 365 herbs and was taught their secrets to healing. She spread out her cloak and began to organize them but before she could finish the task her father found her. Jealous again of his child’s talents he picked up the cloak and scattered the herbs, leaving their sacred knowledge lost to history. Only Airmed remembers all of the herbalist knowledge.
The significance of the number 365 may have been as such: “one for each of his joints and sinews, one for each day of the year, one for each illness that ever had been or ever would be.” (Story Archeology)
Well of Sláine essentially translates to “Well of Health”
Airmed and Miach are both etymologically linked to measurements of grain or cereal. Airmed is more of a measurement and Miach is more of the thing being measured (Story Archeology).
In Old Irish, there were no distinctions made between herbs and vegetables and they were generally all considered “useful plants”.
This would make sense as Airmed’s story involves her organizing and counting these useful plants.
I HIGHLY suggest you look into Story Archeology because the hosts of the podcast go into detail about the etymology and possible meanings behind the story of Airmed.
Modern Deity Work
Keep in mind that due to the very little information left about Airmed, most of this modern deity work will be influenced by those who work with her in modern times.
Correspondences
Rocks/Stone/Crystals
Quartz, amethyst, opal, agate (moss agate), jasper, silver
Herbs/Plants
You could argue that all of them—or at least 365 of them—correspond to Airmed as she is an herbalist
Healing herbs specifically
Self Heal (prunella vulgaris)
Animals
Snakes (sometimes associated with healing as well as waters in Celtic mythology)
Symbol
Mortar and Pestle
Healing Wells
Offerings
Herbs, especially those native to Ireland
Donate to local medical facilities
Any of the above
Acts of Devotion
Learn Herbalism
Practice healing or medicine
Pay respects to those in medical careers
Volunteer at medical centers
Possibly looking into necromancy as she is known to bring the dead back to life (though this is a stretch)
References and Further Reading
Most of these are going to be UPG or similar and not based much in history but I’m trying to add as many as possible for those interested in further looking into this diety.

My new favorite old couple lol
I finally posted darksiders again but it's my ocs Michael and Airmed <3
Michael and Airmed have a bit of history together as the female nephilim had actually kept him stable in his life-threatening injuries that would've killed him if not for both Raphael and Airmed's medical knowledge.

Diz-se que é envolta em névoa, exceto por um dia a cada sete anos, quando se torna visível, mas ainda não pode ser alcançada. Note
Briata looked to Airmed, he looked so peaceful asleep like this. All the pain and horror they'd all experienced. They could have stopped them, they could have pushed back. But then they'd be alone, alone again like they'd woken that one time. Alone when they weren't meant to be.
She ran a hand through Airmed's hair pressing her lips to his ear.
"You are loved. I know you won't believe me later on - but you are loved darling."
Airmed stirred as he felt her hand in his hair, her small body shifting as his eyes opened and his gaze lifted to meet hers. Why did her words sound so final, why did it almost sound like a goodbye?
His mind was fuzzy with tiredness, his body worn out as he wanted to slip back into his sleep. Gently he reached out, his hand took a hold of her sleeve as he shifted closer.
Don't go.

The essence of Celtic religion is found in contradictory states; in the neither / nor; the liminal fringe.

Low Energy Witchcraft - Chronic Fatigue Edition
Tumblr media
Making a post such as this is something I find absolutely vital. Many of us deal with fatigue. Many of us deal with chronic fatigue and don't know it. This comes in tiredness, drowsiness, exhaustion, lethargy, brain fog, memory issues, slurring of words and muscle weakness.
I deal with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis aka Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). My Fibromyalgia accompanies that which is a chronic pain condition.
Sometimes you feel stuck in your own body. Bedridden for hours, days, weeks and sometimes life in extreme cases of ME/CFS. Weather can affect this, environment and pushing yourself past your limits. Rest is important.
Now how does this tie into witchcraft? Simple. We use our energy for spellwork, raising energy, energy work, devotion, basically everything. So much of our practice requires personal energy being manipulated and used, leaving us exhausted after in a lot of cases.
I'm going to share some helpful tips with you today.
Now remember, witchcraft is an aid. Nota cure or a replacement for medical aid. Please still take any and all medication and go to the doctors when needed.
Now let's get into it
Sustaining and drawing energy:
Borrowing energy from elements, crystals, tendrils (I'll go into this), space. It's limitless.
Tendrils. Tendrils are a form of vampiric magic I learned. Where you can borrow energy from another person. I will not go into the ethics of consent. I believe you need to do what's right for you at the moment. However, consent is something vital and needs to be practiced. How do you do it? Visualize or focus on feeling these energy tendrils coming out of your fingers. They can suck up the energy from the space or from another person with contact and focus. If not immediately needed, you can store this excess energy in a crystal or an amulet for later use. Always try to ground after so you don't feel overcharged. Being overcharged can cause shakiness, anxiety and sometimes manic-like states.
Sigils
Sigils are a great form of aid. You can make them for lifting brain fog, fatigue, memory, etc. I will link some when I make a few.
Spells
You can do mini spell workings on higher energy days to aid in many ways. I will link some when I make a few.
Deities Worship
If you work with certain deities they may aid you in health. Honouring and working with Apollon (Greek), Apollo (Roman), Sekhmet (Egyptian), Eir (Norse), Airmed (Irish) and many more are associated with healing. A simple prayer can do.
What can I practice when I have little/no energy?
You can practice mindfulness or elemental box breathing. How I do that is breathe in Earth, Fire, Water, Air. Hold Earth, Fire, Water, Air. Breathe out Earth, Fire, Water, Air. and Hold Earth, Fire, Water, Air. Repeat as needed. You will feel more connected to the elements that way.
Take any medication you have with intention. Drawing the sun symbol on your bottles, the planet sun is great for healing.
Prayer to any deities, guardians or ancestors you are currently working with.
Grounding your energy may help you feel better with brain fog. It tends to help me on heavy days.
Doing something as simple as opening a window on a windy day to connect to the air element. Helps cycle air in a stuffy environment as well.
Opening your curtains and basking in the sun's rays can feel very soothing. Alternatively, if you have a sun lamp for SAD, you can bask in its glow and envision the sun's rays on your skin to connect with solar energy.
I will add to this post as time goes on.

If you designed an alt outfit for Airmed, what would it look like? (Doesn't have to be art, a description is fine)
Definitely something similar to the picture below.
Tumblr media
Of course a lot Airmed's fashion is based on Celtic/Gaelic/Irish (figured I'd put all three) traditional fashions not a %100 but still a lot of inspiration for Airmed came from the Celtic goddess well Airmed who was the goddess of healing and medicine. (If my memory is correct lol)
Which is why I made her clothing close to these traditional clothing.

Female Characters in Medieval Irish Lit Who Deserve Guns
Fúamnach
Étaín
Bláthnat
Aífe (Tochmarc Emire Aífe, not Oidheadh Chloinne Lir Aífe...though I am not OPPOSED to giving her one as well)
Derbforgaill
Emer
Deirdre
Findabair
Airmed
Technically MORE from the folkloric tradition (with spots of medieval tradition), but Sadb. Give Sadb a gun.
Characters who Do Not Deserve Guns (But I would like to give guns to anyway, just to see what they do with them):
Medb
The Morrígan (give her a machine gun while we're at it, make things interesting)
Indech's Daughter
