Something I've been working on for an embarrassingly long time. In addition to cleaning up 'The Fenian Cycle' Book from the manga, I also wanted to put my own spin on Yana's design with additions relating to the mythos, as well as some more details. The goal is to make this into a physical book, eventually.

Female Characters in Medieval Irish Lit Who Deserve Guns
Fúamnach
Étaín
Bláthnat
Aífe (Tochmarc Emire Aífe, not Oidheadh Chloinne Lir Aífe...though I am not OPPOSED to giving her one as well)
Derbforgaill
Emer
Deirdre
Findabair
Airmed
Technically MORE from the folkloric tradition (with spots of medieval tradition), but Sadb. Give Sadb a gun.
Characters who Do Not Deserve Guns (But I would like to give guns to anyway, just to see what they do with them):
Medb
The Morrígan (give her a machine gun while we're at it, make things interesting)
Indech's Daughter

The Story of Fionn and Sadhbh
Transformed into a deer by the Fear Doirche, as revenge for rejecting his advances, Sadhbh is only able to transform back into human form upon entering the castle of the Fianna. It is there where she meets Fionn, who immediately falls in love with her. The threat of the Fear Doirche looms over the happy couple, as they live together in the safety of the castle.
One day, while Finn is hunting, Sadhbh is tricked by the Fear Doirche and lured away. Fionn spends many years trying to track her down but to no avail. One day, a young boy is found in the wild with Sadhbh's features. Upon realising that the young boy is him and Sadhbh's son, he is named Oisín, which means "little deer".

Posting Black Butler facts once a day until season 4 is released!
There’s lots of references to real life literature in the series, the most well known being Snake’s snakes, Finny’s name and the Arthur Conan Doyle cameo in the Manor Murders arc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But there are so many more, see below the cut!
The magazines that Ciel mentions he has read (Beeton’s and Punch) were real magazines at the time!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Many of the characters have names referencing things as well, like Othello (Shakespeare play/character),
Tumblr media
Sieglinde (possible references to the Wizard of Oz)
Tumblr media
and Johann Agares.
Tumblr media
There’s also Peter and Wendy from the circus arc making obvious references to Peter Pan. Chapter 14 has references to “The Raven” as well! I suggest looking below the cut for more info!
Many of the images were screen caps from the following thread.
I highly suggest reading this, it’s where i got/confirmed most of my info and it goes into great detail!
10 more days!

hey so, guess who just found secret, not-so-secret, lesbians galpals hiding in Irish mythology while he was looking for cool names for ocs 👀
Bodhmall & Liath Luachra were Fionn's(mac Cumhaill) childhood foster mothers in the Fenian Cycle.
(& also just badass warriors in their own right, living together in the forest of Sliabh Bladhma; Bodhmall, specifically, was a druidess.)

Ch196 spoiler, other Pomeranian kid
Idk what else to call him, though we might learn his name in this chapter. We saw him previously, when Doll first introduced the Pomeranian class; back then, he was reading from that copy of the Fenian Cycle. He's also got a Latin book.
Tumblr media
Everyone seems to be drawn to him. People stop and stare at him, like he's a celebrity or a bit other-worldly. He seems to have such a winning personality. The girl stops crying, and he helps her feed the carrot to the horse.
Tumblr media
He seems surprised by Snake and Finny, as if he recognizes them or notices something about them that really catches his attention. And, as he walks past Finny, he says something that catches Finny off-guard.
Tumblr media
I really don't think F. O. L. Orphanage is simply meant to be reminiscent of Phantomhive Manor. I do believe that Finny and Snake have been there before, though it might have been called something else at the time. This Pomeranian kid might actually recall seeing Finny before.... 🤔
Either that or Finny simply introduces himself, and this kid makes a comment about the Finny standing there versus the Finny in the book? 🧐

ciel sick in bed and finny sneaking in through his window after sebastian told him to leave the young master alone so he can read fenian cycle to him while he rests
he stumbles over words a lot, but ciel listens just as serenely and even gives a little smile
(sebastian forbids finny from sweets for a week for disobeying but ciel keeps sneaking him candy when he thinks sebastian doesnt notice so the punishment doesnt work, but finny would think its worth it either way all because ciel smiled for him)

I was wondering, can you explain in more detail about what exactly the Fenian Cycle is ... and what version you think our!ciel is reading?
"The Fenian Cycle" is the third of a series of cycles... The order is, the Mythological Cycle, the Ulster Cycle, the Fenian Cycle, and then the Cycle of Kings. These "Cycles" refer to a collective... bodies of literature/stories pertaining to specific time periods in Celtic Mythology. In the case of the Fenian Cycle, the stories are about Fionn mac Cumhaill and/or about members of the Fianna, his band of hunters / warriors. This includes his family and sons, as well. (The Fenian Cycle, is also called the "Ossianic Cycle" after Fionn's son, Oisín.) There are thousands, of different stories, and/or versions of these stories. If you come across any story that has Fionn in it, or members of his family, or the Fianna... it's a part of the Fenian Cycle. Some of these stories, are older than others... and some of them, have been adjusted, expanded upon, amended, and also Christianized. They've been copied down, and spread... many times, in many different books. There's never going to be any "official" set of stories because many people have very strong feelings about which stories, and which version OF the stories, are "authentic."
Tumblr media
As for Kuroshitsuji...? A publication titled "The Fenian Cycle" didn't exist in the 1800s as far as I know of, so it's likely a fictionalized published book-- one that only seems to exist in the context of the manga (I am sure others have pointed this out). My best guess, is that Our!Ciel is reading a book, that is a modest collection of the most popular and well-known stories, pertaining to Fionn Mac Cumhaill that have been organized, translated from Gaelic into English. I'd also assume this book is a part of a set (featuring similar collections for the other Cycles). * * * That's why I sometimes wonder, which specific stories are in there. We already know this book is deeply sentimental to him. Sometimes I get curious about how the stories were translated in the context of the kuro-universe, what his understanding of the stories are, what his understanding of the celtic underworld is.

Talking about Gráinne, it's always "WHY are people romanticizing her relationship with Diarmaid, we should really be harsher towards her", as if Gráinne has EVER been widely liked as a character since the O'Grady edition and translation (which has multiple flaws, btw) came out in the 19TH CENTURY.

Re-reading Call Down the Hawk after Mister Impossible begs so many questions. Like what was with the two creepy old white mask sellers who claimed Ronan had been to the Fairy Market mask room before. Were they talking about the New Fenian? Was it a reference to Niall's/Ronan's mask in trc?
