What can be cooler than watching pure art-chaos cinema generated with AI? It’s like watching La soupe aux choux with some vintage 21 century sounds that grandmas will play in their cars talking that AI’s back in the days were so much cooler.

Cinema is a language. Language of symbols. It can be flat or it can be pure brain food with abstract meaning. You’ve found food for your brain. Each shot has abstract meaning.

So what do you have here? It is another quick 1 hour generation music show. How quick? 11 days, 12-14 hours per day, non-stop. A few thousand of generations. Yeah it’s during coffee breaks. Art is easy.

Meanwhile here is a soul food. We often hear that cinema should teach good things. Usually that comes from people who tries to replace education with entertainment. Good for having uneducated crowd bad for your intellectual level.

Cinema can be whatever a creator wants. This idea runs into another misconception. We like to think that we are in free society. And that’s why we control speech. We say freedom and we cut this thing in half like there is bad and good freedom.

No wonder some people became pro-anarchy and have some tiny sparkle of hope that AGI can help to break this dystopia we’re living in.

Was talking to a teen about ai art yesterday and she said that ai would be able to make ‘better’ art. So I asked, what exactly is ‘better’ art and how would that work? To which she had an answer: ‘if we manage to understand and replicate the mechanism of human creativity, ai will be able to perfect it’. Which is, I think, what lies at the center of this discourse between businessmen and IT specialists (people generally very far away from creating art) and artists. They think that it is, like anything else, a mechanism. A system, like that of a computer. Instead of, you know (and every artist knows), a completely mysterious and unexplored source of passion and inspiration turning itself into something that has never existed before. Instead of a piece of the divine in the human soul. Instead of the equivalency of a dam being opened and your grief and love spilling out onto paper. They think creativity works like mathematics when creativity actually works like prayer. And AI can’t really pray, can it.

Don’t mind me just getting emotional about the WGA deal

#it has very little to do with me but I’m so PROUD of them #and FINALLY we have a significant baseline for AI regulations #it’s industry-specific but it’s SOMETHING #when we started the week we had NOTHING in the entire world #it’s an example that other industries can look toward #that other workers can ask for #again it has such little impact outside of filmmaking but I have been begging for some kind of regulation anywhere for a YEAR #thank fuck for the WGA

i feel like i’ve been WAITING for the other shoe to drop wrt people’s opinions about watcher for this very reason. not that i think the reaction is completely not understandable but the greater the parasocial relationship, the greater the fallout as soon as public opinion shifts. you don’t have a relationship with these people they’re just content creators, chill

Everyone always focuses on illustrators when we're speaking about AI taking over jobs. But it's not only drawings. It's photography too, I've seen ads made with AI instead of hiring a photographer, soon it'll be video- and movie industry as well, when they're developing the monster. Think of all the animators, special effects, drone and helicopter filmers, regular camera operators etc. They will all lose their jobs. Game designers too probably.

And AI is expanding to music too. It's not only the drawings.

SUBLIME CINEMA #609 - EX MACHINA

Alex Garland made an impressive leap from writer to director in this film, with echoes of Kubrick’s 2001, and his own sci fi work, like the underrated Sunshine. 

Not as out-of-this-world sublime as Under the Skin, but there are a lot of similarities: the coming to life of empathy in the robotic, the coldness of atmosphere, the clever female predator and victim, one and the same.
