Not that my weighing in on anything means anything, but here’s my two cents as a decade plus user:

Tumblr has a TERF problem and has had one for a while. The amount of content on this website that was built around the HP fandom in the early days I think is particularly why. JKR did her thing and there was already a built-in cushion of diehards who might not have even had a formed opinion likely became transphobic and transmisogynists in defense of their favorite series.

The truscum and TERF lesbians catapulted themselves to the center of this new bloc by using the usual prey upon tactics, only fortifying their following.

Like any space being leeched upon by the far right, Tumblr was never really a place to take a foothold before as it was largely viewed as the SJW site- better to attack (like 4chan did) than to join. But it’s different now. It’s the last beacon of non-algorithmic social media. Sure the hardcore Nazis mostly stayed on Twitter post-Musk but you have to think how many of the TERFs who identify as LGB (no T) would leave a worse hellsite for this one.

What I’m getting at is, if you’ve been paying attention to the Tumblr ecosystem for as long as I have, you notice the trends. This issue has been festering for awhile, to claim as a CEO for the site that it’s misinformation is to ignore countless user experiences, most of us who’ve been using this site since before the acquisition by said CEO and company.

We’ve had this issue for years now, we’ve been trying to tell you, and you’ve done next to nothing. This is unacceptable and the backlash you’re getting from this is hubris.

I don't get why anyone thinks transmascs would just roll over and cry uncle or something and stop using a word to articulate how much it fucking sucks to be transmasculine right now. I was scared for my life when roe was overturned, I'm constantly angry to see my rights taken away just because of my birth sex and my gender identity. That's just for the US, but similar issues are affecting transmascs all over the world. There is no tumblr post that is going to make me "give up" and stop talking about this with whatever word I find useful. It's literally my life, I live it. The semantics mean absolutely nothing.

I cried watching Coco, I felt very seen and it made me nostalgic for this ephemeral mexicaness that I could not have. When I talked to my parents about it, they were like “eh, it was ok.” Followed by a bunch of nitpicky complaints about it.

We all moved to the US at the same time, but of course, I was 11 and my parent were in their 30s. their Mexican identity was fully formed, but mine was not. So decades of synthesizing, and absorbing, and rejecting, and surviving American Culture have made me something else. This whole time that I've been changing and growing, and coming to terms with my internal diaspora, my parents were "Mexicans Living in the US".

I went to watch Blue Beetle with my wife and, again, felt seen, even got a little choked up talking to her about it afterward. “His family is so much like yours” she said, and I agree, but I can’t help but think that if my parents watch it they’ll focus on all the things that make them different from us; all the virgin of guadalupe stuff, all the floridian stuff, all the spanglish, and say something like “it was fine, the machine gun grandma was funny.” And nothing else.

In a lot of ways I’m jealous; My parents don’t crave representation from their media because their Mexican identity is complete and intact, because they can watch Mexican shows on cable and feel fully reflected. But I’m not from here or there, and I’m only represented when the contradiction is on screen.

as a trans girl who is not so good at video games other than minecraft, i’m really glad they added an assist mode to celeste. it’s super great because i can make it just the right difficulty to where it’s still challenging, but i know i can do it. i absolutely would not be able to complete or maybe even finish celeste without the assist mode. and even if i did, it would be too hard to actually have fun. i think people who are good at celeste derserve a kiss on the lips or a really good sandwich or a cute picture of a cat as a reward.

at the end of this month, Society6 is going to start charging artists monthly subscription fees for basic features like price setting and having more than 10 designs available at a time. Their pay was always terrible (and apparently it got even worse over the years, I didn't even notice), so I've decided to just shut it down.

Someday I'll do printing myself, but right now I'm all in on animating my little movie so it'll have to wait.

32-Bit Cassette Futurism Concept

I’ve been on a cassette futurism kick lately in my sketchbook and a PS1 aesthetic kick in general. This is a concept I had for a data recorder. It’s basically a cross of a Walkman and a modern cellphone. The “tapes” are actually cartridges that hold various programs or information. Unlike magnetic tapes in the real world, these cartridges can hold several gigabytes of information. There’s a serial port on the top that can interface with different devices to either display or listen to the content. Might be the first in a series.

my honest genuine #real opinion is that anyone who's ever had a serious problem with trans men saying tranny is an ignorant asshole. There's no good reason. Any variation of "it's not about you" is just genuinely wrong. Not only is there tons of historical precedent, there's also violent modern precedent if you paid any attention to trans men at all. Arguments like "look it up on Google images!" are so stupid because using Google images as to who is affected by a transphobic slur is a very, very dumb strategy to live by. Picking out trans men as the people who's language about transphobia you want to police is a bad joke.
