Oh my god. Oooh my god. Mainland China has done a remake of I Am Not a Robot!!!!

It's called A Robot in the Orange Orchard and is available on Viki (US). I am ecstatic. Absolutely pumped to try this out. I loved the original. I can't wait to turn off my brain and watch this.

If this version lets me down, I can rewatch the original. Gosh I miss these two dummies.

Comparable to: I’m not a Robot (kdrama); Are You Human Too (kdrama) ; My Holo Love (kdrama); My Robot Boyfriend (cdrama)

This is a remake to the original kdrama I’m Not a Robot. The storylines are pretty much identical although there’s a few differences here and there. The oranges as a key subject is one. Unfortunately I do like the Korean version a tad bit more. The characters were more emotionally complex and had depth to them. The Chinese version in my opinion seemed cliche and very straightforward. That’s not to say I didn’t like it either. I liked both, just the Korean slightly better.

• extraordinary attorney woo: i am absolutely obsessed with this one, my little neurodivergent heart is so blessed. like all media, esp with autistic folk, it has its flaws, but it is so far the best and loveliest depiction of an autistic character i've ever seen. highly recommend!!

• triage: bestieeeeeeees, i am a huge sucker for a good time loop, and one in a medical drama??? *chef's kiss*

• link: eat love kill: this show is absolutely everything—romance, comedy, thriller, fantasy, drama, mystery—and has absolutely everything—weird psychic link, cooking, twin sister murder revenge plot, pathetic little meow meow, unlucky girlboss. what's not to love??

• kinnporsche: thoroughly enjoying it, v worth the two year wait, and i can't believe it's almost over

• minato shouji coin laundry: having a hard time getting past how young shin is, but besides that i'm really enjoying this! it's cute and so far better than the manga, which is pretty decent

• tomorrow: i've been v slowly but surely making my way through this kdrama and its v good and sentimental and fun and cute and emotional

• star & sky: sky in your heart: it's basic but cute and i'm enjoying having a classic thai bl for my frigays

• senpai, danjite koidewa: WHERE IS EP 3???? i binged the manga and loved it and now am in utter agony waiting for new eps

• my secret love: i'm kinda behind on this one, yet it's one of my favorite currently airing (for now, i've only seen 2.5 eps, so don't come for me if it soured). v cute and classic

• sh**ting stars: also behind on this one, i was waiting so impatiently for new eps that i forgot about it absjdbka. 2 eps left to go, though, and i love every second of it so far.

• check out: idk why i'm watching this, it's so shit and v annoying and makes no sense. but i'm in too deep and i love the actors, so i'm still here

• stranger things s4 vol. 2: no one said this was an asian drama watchlist, lmao. i'm v slowly making my way through this bc 1. it's very long and 2. it's kinda eh, esp with the spoilers i've seen

• who rules the world: i went absolutely insane over this one when it first started airing, but then my parents and i started rewatching shl and watching this in between just made me ache for more shl, so now it's kinda on hold, but i'm keeping it in my currently watching list to hold myself accountable!

rewatching:

• shan he ling: the hyperfixation has lasted over a year, babeyyyy!! currently rewatching with my parents (my dad has seen up to ep 26 and my mom's never seen it) and i love it sm and want nothing more than to be watching it 24/7 but my parents have lives and i guess i do too (curse you uni summer classes and job!!), so we're watching very slowly.

• bad buddy: i already finished a full rewatch with my irl friend a little while ago, but another irl friend is on ep 10 so i'm rewatching along with her so that i can talk abt it without spoiling (and also to refresh my mind and go properly insane in out text convos)

as you can tell i'm watching wayyyy too many shows, so i'm getting through them pretty slowly, not to mention the fact that i'm currently spending most of my time listeing to the white vault, a horror podcast i'm incredibly hyperfixated on, absjsj. but such is the life of a gay person with adhd! thanks again to tay for tagging me, this was fun! i tag @ahxu-laowen @laowen @tipnaree @liyazaki @musicdramalove and anyone else who wants to!

Exploring What it Truly Means to Be Vulnerable

In the early chapters of my college journey in Malaysia, my mother perceived me a "robot," discerning no emotional response as she bid me farewell. This perception lingered, echoed by a colleague in Singapore, shaping the façade I wore until I stepped into therapy in 2018.

Exiting that initial therapy session left me unexpectedly bottled up and uneasy, a far cry from the anticipated release. Walking towards the bus stop, across the street on Orchard Boulevard, that afternoon, I made a conscious choice to grant myself permission to feel, acknowledging and accepting my struggle with emotions—a foreign concept at the time. I wanted to be human. I wanted to experience life—the highs and the lows.

I had gained the reputation of the one who storms in and walks out. My choices in the men I dated had a pattern, each with good intentions, their baggage stored for someone else to help fix.

I wanted other things. I craved freedom. Freedom to listen to the sounds that excited me. To explore new places, take the time to just be in uncertainty. I wanted freedom to be curious. To explore life beyond lust, I needed to befriend my loneliness.

In 2016 I travelled to Bali, a place where I had always wanted to be. Undisturbed, unbothered by the dense quiet. Disconnecting from all means of connection, I surrendered to loneliness.

There were the sundown’s that made me feel a sadness, of an ending. I tried to distract myself with its colors—orange, pink, and red fading into the sky. Appreciation for witnessing such colors numbed a pain I could not identify then, as a longing to belong.

It was as if a heavy fog lingered around the layers of my heart, hanging onto me without my permission. Unkind and determined to make me feel unloved, it blocked the cognitive process, creating mental barriers that hindered rational thinking. I continued to hide and give without limitations.

Bitterness of unworthiness distorted my lens as silent whispers of criticism manifested. The empty pages of my journals filled with residues of childhood. I wrote, in my solitude, discovering my first love—putting ink on paper. I lay on the white sheets, playing with the cotton scattered on the blue sky. Without warning, there it surfaced, a memory that was forgotten. A dormant demon had woken up, and I let it confront me.

Right about the same period, I discovered Brené Brown's Ted Talk on The Power of Vulnerability on YouTube.

Resonating with her teachings I delved into her book, "Daring Greatly: How the Courage to be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead." It served as a guide to navigate undoing the shame that blocked my cognition.

Now, what does it truly mean to be vulnerable for me?

It means admitting when I do not know, create a space for learning and sharing.

It means it is okay to seek help.

It means saying no, even when the fear of losing a loved one looms.

It means acknowledging attachment and still finding the strength to let go.

It means embracing triggers, understanding the behaviors they elicit.

It means committing to do the work on healing emotional wounds.

It means to say, "I’m sorry, Mom. I never meant to hurt you."

It means to say, perhaps I was the narcissist in my story.

In my solitude, vulnerability became a companion I actively chose to practice in my interactions. It meant allowing myself to face fears, including speaking up when wronged.

I dared to let my voice flow, turning singing into a form of expression. From the bathroom to the stage, the spotlight on my insecurities. A rush of blood flow from head to toe. Each sung word, an act of bravery. Daring to do what scared me got me discovering an adrenaline that made me feel human.

Daring greatly taught me that skills can be obtained with practice and repetition. I began to walk the quote ‘every artist was first an amateur.’ Each time I dared to learn; it unraveled the barriers of scarcity thinking.

The road to becoming human was not linear. Emotions' gateways gradually opened, revealing a scared child whose rights were unintentionally and intentionally ripped away. Life meant little if I couldn't feel, so I chose to experience it all—the love with sadness, the victory after conquering fears. Choosing to feel didn't come easily; it opened memories long pushed under the carpet.

I cried, begged, betrayed, and lost my way a few times, but I refused to give up on my journey, in the undoing.

Eventually, after 18 years, I turned to my mother, broken and resentful, asking to be held. Finally giving her the chance to be there for me. I cried in agony for the choices that led me astray and home.

There it was a new beginning to rekindle our relationship as mother and daughter. Finally, letting myself be seen by me and not the robot I let people perceive me for.

Terrence took the bottle and turned it around and over in the sun, watching the glitter swirl around in the acid pink liquid. "Yeah, that's definitely Cronut's work," he muttered. He glanced up at Felix. "Why do you want me to have legs?"

"It's not about me," Felix said airily. Terrence gave him a dirty look. That was a patent lie. "I thought it might be fun if you got to wander around up here on land for a little bit. Shake things up a little."

"Uh-huh."

"I could even show you how to get at the best plums in the orchard."

Terrence smirked. "You just wanted an accomplice."

Felix takes a brief bow. "The one and only, motherfuckers. Now," he continues, flipping a lockpicking kit casually out of one of his pouches, "Once you leave you'll notice this base is entirely populated by corpses. No need to thank us, and no need to waste time getting the fuck out. And, if there is any mercy in this cold, unforgiving universe, we'll never see each other ever again, so." He swings the door open. "Make like a tree, cocksuckers."

They hesitate, glancing at each other. "I know I didn't stutter. Get out. Your yellow moron is right here." Felix grabs Grif by the shoulder and shoves him into the room.

"Grif!" Simmons yells.

"I'm orange!" Grif protests.

"Shut up, you're goldenrod at best. We're not having this argument again because I'm right," Felix hisses, feeling his grip on his temper quickly loosen.

"Fragment?" Sharkface's curious gaze swung his way and Aiden did his best to keep his face neutral. "It's busted?"

“Oh, you don’t talk much, huh? I like that, that’s kinda cool. It’s mysterious. You’re like a magician. You’re like… David Blaine with tits.”

Leland turned to look at him over his shoulder. "Um. You do realize I'm "Yellow Church", right, and not the girl?"

"Oh, I know." Yes, Tucker was very keenly aware he'd just panicked and hit on his best friend's new ghost clone haunting a pretty good-looking robot body.

"Ok. Great."

Tucker shuffled his feet awkwardly. He fucked up. Lee's gonna hate him same as Church and—

Suddenly Leland sighed and said, "Actually Cinnabon sounds really fuckin' good right now."

"Oh, y-yeah?"

Leland gave a distracted hum. "Yeah, but…" He glanced up at the sky. "Where the fuck even is the nearest mall from here?"

He often has horrible nightmares when sleeping alone, and Caboose wakes up right away to wake him since he's kinda noisy - thrashing, crying, screaming. The rest of the squad prefers that they sleep snuggled up together. Sometimes when the others' sleep gets bad, Caboose goes around and collects everyone into a cuddle pile and they sleep that way. They weren't very happy about it at first, especially Emerson who has a superiority complex, but it's the best sleep they've ever gotten in their lives. Shin and Joennes use the excuse to cuddle with each other.

Despite his best efforts, Wash figures him out quickly. He's really not as stealthy as he used to be, despite trying to get extra training in when everyone else was sleeping. "Private Argus," Wash calls cheerfully, "if you would be polite and join us instead of eavesdropping."

"Damnit." He should have known better than to think he could trail Wash properly while also being out of practice. Wash had actually gotten onto the leaderboard, and he'd spent the past 14 months as Private Duncan Argus, a dangerously clumsy recruit whose only real asset was his speed.

"Argus?" Church says, high-pitched with disbelief. "What the fuck is he doing here?"

"He's been following us, probably on Command's orders."

"Howdy, folks," Argus says pleasantly, walking up to them nonchalantly, as if he hasn't just been discovered tailing them for the past several hours. "Sir," he amends, nodding at Washington.

He frowned briefly when he realized Church wasn't listening, too busy trying to get Caboose to put him back down from where he was lifting Church up in a huge bear hug and talking about how much fun they're gonna have in their new best friend adventure with their new friends and they're just regular friends because no one else will ever be his best friend and somewhere along that happy rant, Church feels his emotions go into overdrive and tears leak out of his remarkably anatomically correct tear ducts.

Maine huffs lightly, raises his eyebrows, and turns to walk away. That was probably the best it was going to get, and it wasn't Sigma's place to pry further. Well he didn't rip your chip out of our head and crush it so that's something, Alpha thinks to him. Sigma gives him a baleful stare and sinks back into himself for contemplation. Alpha can still feel him there as well as he can feel their limbs, but leaves him be. Being partially integrated is weird.

Currently playing: ... don’t judge me, but I’m addicted to FreeCell, Sudoku and Rummi. Yes I’m an old lady. It’s just the best to put on some music and play over and over again. (yes, I do have a Switch and 5 games I haven’t even touched since I bought them....)
