Inari kicked one of the soldiers that began to attack her away from her, before backflip from another attack. The Seeker didn’t understand what was happening or where she was, when she woke up, she was in strange place. The building wasn’t anything she has seen before, not even the destroyed buildings of Garlemald looked like this.

And walking around apparently drew the attention of these soldiers, that also, didn’t look like Garlean soldiers. And they had scary weapons too.

She forgot to mind her strength when she punched another soldier, making a surprised sound when she sent the poor soldier flying next to a door. 

“I’m sorrry!” Inari sighed, not completely tired before walking to the door where she sent the soldier flying, patting their head in apology but she could clearly see they were unconscious. Good, she didn’t accidentally kill them. She was gonna open the door until her ears caught footsteps coming behind it, which made the miqo’te step back. Oh no, she has nowhere to hide and the soldiers would be a good indication that something happened in this room.

All she could do is continue to step back, her ears peaking in alert and ready to fight or make a run for it if she has the opportunity.

When Jackie (knows the actor's ability) asks why he uses explosives to decorate the fight, the actor replies, "Because people like flashy things", but in fact it's because he wants to cover up the terrible things he actually does.

I hope the actor is influenced by Jackie and cares about him somewhat sincerely but the result is a twisted and terrible thing Jackie doesn't want.

(It seems to conflict with what I wrote above, so I would like to add that I would like to see the actor stop playing the ideal person and the more he truly treats people, the worse the outcome gets)

You may have discussed this before but I am worried. What do you make of the ending of the Brycehunt bonus chapter in hosab being the same ending line of the acosf azriel chapter where an interaction with hunt/gwyn glows quietly in their chest? I understand SJM uses similar wording often but this seems too dead on to be coincidence. And do you think the library will play a role in the crossover and therefore Gwyn?

this is gonna be a little long so....

let's look at the scenes first.

Bryce & Hunt:

When the satyr had locked the door, Bryce glanced up at Hunt to find him watching her, desire still a dark flame in his eyes. "I'll see you at home tonight," he said quietly. Then he leaned in to whisper in her ear, "Maybe I'll play medwitch and tend to your injury." She bit her lower lip. But before she could reply, Hunt had stalked out of the pub, people giving him a wide berth before he leapt into the skies. It was only when she was walking up the steps of the archives that she realized she was still smiling. That all thoughts of the luncheon had faded away. Hunt had done that for her. She'd never stop being grateful for it-for him. Bryce's heart tightened and something brighter than starlight filled her veins. It remained, shimmering and secret, glowing inside her for the rest of the day.

Azriel Bonus:

Clotho's pen moved once more. She deserves something as beautiful as this. I thank you for the joy it shall bring to her. Something sparked in Azriel's chest, but he only nodded his thanks and left. He could picture it, though, as he ascended the stairs back to the House proper. How Gwyn's teal eyes might light upon seeing the necklace. For whatever reason… he could see it. 1.are the people in the same scene?

Hunt and Bryce : yes

gwen and Az: No. az was with clotho.

2. what is the glowing thing?

Bryce: her feelings. Sarah shows the emotions like that in her writing. it is a type of her style.

Az: glowing thing is an image.

3. what are they smiling at?

Bryce: the feelings hunt caused in her. and she was "still" smiling. she did the smiling knowingly. and it continues bc she is happy.

Gwyn's eyes "lighting up" came to him "for whatever reason" and he erases the smile "consciously" as if it happened without his knowing. so much unknown going on. it is pretty sus.

4. does the glowing glow "quietly"?

Bryce: NO. bc why a glowing would be "quietly" as if it is emitting some kind of sound?

Az: YES. I actually made a post. bc glowing quietly is weird as fuck. why would some glowing thing glow quietly??? and let's not forget in the same bonus a shadow danced with gwyn's breath as if it heard some "silent music"....and gwyn glows when she is singing. it fits. you know...

5. why secret?

Bryce and Hunt: they were supposed to be hidden bc there is a thing in cc2 where bryce has a fiance and they are trying to keep their relationship hidden. actually that whole bonus chapter is about them sneaking around.

Azriel and gwen: there is no reason for them to be secret....tho if you count nesta saying how gwyn has a secret beneath pretty face when she first met her? or how lightsingers were "lovely ethereal beings" I have a whole post about that secret lovely part if you wanna read it.

idk if it is coincidence or not bc it means nothing. bc both are bonus pov only meant be a limited amount. so if you have to read two bonus povs and make a connection to see something...that is a shit writing. and sarah is known for writing the same wordings over and over again. people make fun of it all the time on reddit or any other social media. it is just her writing style. so context>>>>>>>>>>

and I see library playing a part bc the pit in the library seems important but gwyn...is just a side character to nesta's book. maybe we will see her in cc3(tho I don't see it happening) but I don't see her being important to crossover. We have feysand who will be important and feyre didn't even meet gwen. Bryce has more important things to deal with tbh. her whole world is in chaos.

I've written for a bunch of fandoms over the years. Currently I'm most active in Guardian and adjacent fandoms, but I think I could and would still write for pretty much everything I've written for in the past. So the full list would be Guardian, the Silmarillion, QZGS, MDZS/CQL, YYM, the Rebel, DMBJ, and some RPF :D

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to always respond to comments, bc i myself really like it when an author responds to my comments, so I would be a hypocrite not to do it myself. But also I kind of enjoy that interaction. Especially if ppl have commented on specific lines or on the themes. Sometimes commenters have insights about my fics that even I didn't have myself while writing, and I like to let them know their thoughts were appreciated :)

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Well, I am an angst writer, but I often try to make the endings of my fics at least a bit hopeful :/// I think the angstiest ending to a finished fic would have to go to either Crowded full of parting's feeling, which ends with LXC being (for the first time in his life) truly and utterly alone. Kind of a bummer. Or perhaps the easy part, which ends with ZYL crying himself to sleep on the kitchen floor.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

As I said, I try to make my endings hopeful, if not truly happy, but there are a few true happy endings to my fics! I think my RPF pieces tend to be the happiest bc I am slightly less likely to put these guys through the wringer the way I do with my truly fictional blorbos. I think the happiest however is homecoming, which ends with WJX finally coming out as trans and being her best and truest self.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not yet??? Hopefully it stays that way! I do write RPF though, so I'm very ready for one of the crazy antis to one day drop into my inbox calling me all sorts of nasty things for *looks at writing scribbled on hand* having the audacity to put characters in fictional situations that don't hurt the real ppl that inspired these characters in any way??? yeah :PPP

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Occasionally, when the muse strikes! But my ace brain finds it quite difficult. My mind tends to trail off and scatter all over the place when I get to the actual smut, and I have a hard time reeling it back in. As a result my smutty fics often get needlessly long xD and they also get a little kinky bc my brain tries to come up with ways to stay engaged in its own writing xD I like testing the limits of how poetic I can be about smut scenes.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Almost never. I rarely enjoy reading them unless they are very well done, so I don't generally think of writing them. The only consistent exception to this rule is all the weilan derivative fics! I love those very much, even if I don't always know the characters. So i've written one of those myself: no shame in having loved, a crossover between the Rebel and Detective L, which takes Luo Fei's perspective at snapshots in the Rebel canon, reflecting on everything that Lin Nansheng learns, loses, and cannot seem to stop giving away. It's a sad one, but with a slightly hopeful ending :)

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of? I don't think I'm big enough in any fandom for anyone to consider stealing my work.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope, but I have had one podficced :D

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have not. On the one hand I think I'd love to try one day, but I'm also very particular about certain things and I fear I might get antsy. I love brainstorming about fic though! Some of my best ideas have come from talking to people.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

Uhm Weilan I think? I'm not really in fandom for the shipping.

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

ohh hard one. I have three, if I may:

And miles to go (before I sleep): it's a story that's still very dear to me, but it's been so long since I started it that I think I'd need to rewrite the whole thing, bc I've gotten better at writing in the meantime and the style of any new chapter wouldn't match the first ones.

First gradually, and then all at once: I wrote all of this in a single week, and then uni got in the way, and then my hyperfixation on YYM ended and since then the fic's been stuck in unfortunate limbo :(((( I really want to finish it but I need the muse to guide me

Tryptich: not yet posted, but fully planned. It's one of the toughest, angstiest, most cathartic fic plots I have ever come up with, and I really want to write it because it is such a meaningful story about mental health and loss and recovery, but it's also YYM fandom, and as established above I need to regain that hyperfixation for this to move anywhere :(((( or just have a lot of free time on my hands where I can write both the guardian fic stuck in my brain and this.

16. What are your writing strengths?

uuhm, I think atmosphere/scene setting, structure, and character study/reflection.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

dialogue tags (bane of my existence). I also think my work can sometimes drag on, I use too many words sometimes. Also I feel like I can be kind of a one trick pony xD I repeat a lot of similar lines and dramatic build-up between stories.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Can be great when other ppl do it. If it's a language I can read a little bit that's nice , otherwise including a translation at the bottom helps. I'd definitely never write dialogue in a language I'm not fluent in. That being said, I do pay a lot of attention to what language my characters are 'actually' speaking, even if I present their dialogue to my readers in English. For example if would write a phrase like "he pauses to breathe between all three syllables" (which sucks as a line, but bear with me), in an English-language fic where the characters would canonically be speaking Mandarin Chinese, then I would make sure the line that character said would actually contain 3 syllables in both English and Chinese. I do a lot of that kind of reasoning in my head. "If this line, reflecting on dialogue spoken in Y language, was transposed directly into language X that the characters are really supposed to be speaking, would the line still work like this?" if the answer there is no, then I will either change the line, or change the English dialogue until I have something that reflects what I imagine the characters would say in their native language in the way I need!

Now for the basic plot: Tamsin has had FIVE kids, and of course with that she's grown a Lil bit chubby, which causes her to be a little self conscious, especially with how she sees April and Cassandra look much better compared to her.

And maybe one day, Donnie walks in on her looking at herself in the mirror, kinda sadly staring at her stretch marks and stuff and he does his best to make her feel better about herself?

And it just gets all fluffy stuff, then they start getting all romantic and kissy-but before it gets too out of hand they hear little giggles and see their kids watching from behind a corner (cause their sneaky lil shi-). And it just ends up as a fluffy cuddle pile with their kids? It had been about two months since Magdeline was born; Donnie's and Tamsin's youngest child, and Tam had began getting back into the rhyme of things. Being more active and caring for her children took a lot of work, witch made Tam all more aware of her body; mainly her appearance.

She had been trying to work out and try new diets, but nothing seemed to work. That piece of tummy was almost as stubborn as Don.

So, after a small, early-morning work out routine and a jog around the house, she stopped in front of the full-length mirror in her bedroom. Tam was wearing her exercise outfit which consisted of a sports bra and a pair of sweatpants.

Tam slowly came to a halt as she examined herself closer in the mirror, focusing on the patch of stomach. She stood in front of the mirror, sweaty and disheveled, and pondered why she couldn't get rid of that spot, that stupid spot.

Tamsin grabbed at it, squishing it; her expression soured at the texture. The dark, self-douting talk started to seep in. One by one, they slowly started to weigh her down.

"Why am I like this?" Tamsin asked herself, her eyebrows furring and her big, green eyes becoming watery.

"Like what?" a strong voice came from behind her. It was Donatello, her husband. He watched her the entire time she stood in front of the mirror and questioned her appearance.

"You look great to me," He continued, leaning on the door frame and sipping his coffee.

Tamsin looked back at him, tears being blinked away, "What do you mean 'great'? Aren't you going to say I look stunning?" She asked with a hint of teasing anger.

"I mean," He deafened, coming closer to her and wrapping his arms around her waist, "Yea, because you'd look a lot better with no clothes on." He churred, leaning in closer for a passionate kiss.

Donnie started to lean his weight onto the woman, in a heated battle, before a little voice interrupted them.

"Mom? Dad?" Jerimiah asked quietly as he rubbed his eyes.

Tam pulled away to comfort Jerimiah, much to Don's disgruntled following.

"What's wrong, honey?" Tamsin asked sweetly.

"I heard a loud noise," the oldest said, "And I gost scared. Then David woke up, and then Zuccone and Niccolo woke up too."

"Chain reaction," Donnie snorted at his own joke, sipping more of his coffee as his wife gave him the "It's Not Funny To Bully Children" look she had had to give Leon more times then he'd like to admit.

"What?" Donnie asked defensively, "It was a good joke.." He mumbled.

"Can we stay with you?" Jerimiah asked, already sleepy from the encounter.

"Sure," Tam purred, "You guys can stay with us."

The kids filled in one by one, grabbing pillows and blankets to construct the nest of comfortableness. With Donnie and Tamsin in the middle and their kids in the surrounding space, tangled in their legs and arms.

David laid on Tam's stomach, cuddling closer and becoming more snuggled in. He yawned and softly said, "Mama comfy. Mama best pillow." as he nodded in and out of consciousness.

"I agree," Donnie whispered, "You're a comfy pillow for mutant-hybrid babies now, you can't just give that up." He said tenderly.

Tamsin giggled, knowing that with any form she took, her family would love and support her through it.

"I love you, Tam," Donnie said at last.

"I love you, too, Don."

DSMP and ive just started a bit of genshin at the behest of my Tartaglia-obsessed irl and he's kinda cool but like for 95% of my other fics its all cdream ahahahhh(dies)

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

"Consequences" tops the charts obviously bc its my one and only longfic and it was written during the peak of dsmp and man id link it bc i love my storyline (cdream obviously gets messed up in prison but then gets a healing arc) there but at the same time i feel like the writing had too many grammar mistakes and could be better so nahh

"North Star to Freedom" is one im actually really proud of, like obviously the writing could be better bc ive improved, but i just like it and id deffo rewrite it too if i had time or steal it into an original fic (premise is that cdream escapes prison with the rebibe book and oh lord my lingo anyways (spoilers) he dies and he gives techno book)

"Persevere" is third, wow that's a long time ago, its alright, i like it in general, but it feels almost cheesy. idk. i like it, but i dont like it. its not mixed feelings, but eh. anyways, something about cdream getting captured by the egg which is about to take over the world but he sacrifices himself to cleanse it. the most acute thing i rember about it is that its a 3parter

"Coup de Grace" ok wth i didnt expect this to be on there it was a small little cdream suffering in prison and cphil comes over, sees him in pain, and cough relieves him of it, and i dont like the writing in a specific part of it, but i like it in some other parts, so eh

"turn the claret tides" whoops i forgot what this one was about ok i glanced through the doc its ctechno getting cdream out of prison wow that title was really vague but he gets the letter and things went on.. it was inspired by another fic and happened during the hype of the prison arc which is kinda cool

(man im looking at the amount of fics i want to rewrite but it aint happening sadge)

Sometimes, most of the times nowadays, if it particularly made my day or it has something deep and insightful or literally makes any observation on my fic. sometimes im just too tired to answer,, maybe laziness is a part of it too, but i stare and its like,, i cant generate a response . but nowadays, i do it most of the times bc i appreciate my commenters :D

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

my recent fics mostly have happy endings, but all my pre-like, mid 2023 fics were all sad sad sad. they all ended in cdream dying, one way or the other. so idk which ones the saddest now its been too long,, the one i personally think is the saddest is one that i like, was listening to sad music to, the song being 'sociopath,' an orchestral piece (or was it piano?)

no 🙈. weirdly enough, i was a lot better about responding years ago on my ff. net account. but i don't really do it on ao3, honestly because i'm just a little lazy about it lol. but i promise i read every single one and know that if you've ever left a comment, i appreciate it so so much!!

probably broken things. it's a romanogers soulmate last words au which ended in a major character death. but you know. last words au, death. it made sense haha.

i've also written a couple canon-compliant character study type fics, including one for natasha romanoff, one for cassian andor/rogue one crew, some for leia organa (post-tfa), and well, none of those end very happily sooooo.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

uhhhhhhh why was this so hard asdffglkhglj. i write a lot of agnst and hurt/comfort lol. but my fic, the weight of your love, is just pure kanera fluff. and these two kanera fics that i've posted on tumblr (but not on ao3 yet), are just silly and fun and fluffy.

not really, thankfully. i mean, i've gotten some not-so-nice comments in the past (again, mainly on ff.net) but i've never gotten anything super aggressive or confrontational, so i'm grateful to be in nice corners of fandom!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

occasionally yes. typically i insert my smut scenes into longer fics though. (i do have a bunch of unpublished half-written smut fics that i haven't gotten the courage to finish and post yet, bc i'm not always the most confident in my smut writing but maybe one day!)

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

not really. i'm not even the best at coming up with AUs, much less crossovers lol. i think the closest i've gotten to a crossover is an agents of shield/mcu crossover, which shouldn't even BE a crossover, but considering that the mcu never acknowledged AoS, it kinda feels like it is. anyway, wrote a fic where daisy johnson and bucky barnes are bffs, and i'm quite fond of it!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

yeah :/ i had somebody take one of my fics and (related to next question) translate it and put it on wattpad. i couldn't message the author and my attempts to contact wattpad got me nowhere so i kinda just let it go.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

looking at last question, technically yes. but other than that, not yet! i would be very honored if someone wanted to translate one of my fics though, and would have absolutely no problem with it! (so long as they asked and didn't steal it asdkfsjd)

13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

only bits and pieces of shared aus with friends for fun, but haven’t published anything.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

kanera and romanogers, hands down. kanan and hera are more recent, but i fell in love with both their characters and them as a couple so fast, and i absolutely love writing for them. they're going to stick with me forever. and steve and natasha.... my loves. fell in love with them when i saw catws the first time and haven't looked back. they've stuck with me the longest, i think. and even though i don't write marvel as much anymore, i still think about them a lot, and there's a lot of stevenat wips i have that i still hope to finish one day.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

whew ummmmm. there's a couple of romanogers fics (specifically finishing our time in the dark and the follow-up to revelations which is an endgame fix-it) that i have told myself i will finish. and i want to! but it will really take a major push to get me back into the headspace to write for marvel again. genuinely, endgame drained so much of the love and inspiration i had so 😔 i hope i can prove myself wrong one day!

i also have ambitions to do a star wars sequels rewrite, but it feels so big lol, so idk if i'll ever actually get around to finishing it. but the bits i have written for it i have so much love for.

16. What are your writing strengths?

digging deep into character emotions and their headspaces. that's something i really like exploring. also i think i'm pretty good about including small details, particularly with using the different senses and using those to help set the scene, and whatnot. in short, description and emotion are my strong suits!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

humor. i think i can be funny sometimes in my writing, but i definitely don't think i'm as good at humor as other people. and especially funny dialogue and banter, that's something i feel like i have to think about more. so still working on that!

i also don't know if this is a true weakness, but i literally don't know when to stop writing asdfljgldkj. i feel like lately it's so hard for me to write short fics (unless i do it in a mad burst in one sitting). but if i'm thinking a lot about a fic, chances are it's going to be 5k MINIMUM.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

i'm not real comfortable with it, especially if i don't speak the language. if it's a very short phrase or a singular word, i will try to use a translator and other online investigating (and then nicely ask people to correct me in the comments if i'm wrong lol). but if i want to have the character speaking full sentences i will usually type it out in english and then use "they said in [insert language here]" as the tagline.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

if we're going wayyy back, technically the first fic i wrote was a bones fic when i was in middleschool lmao. i wrote it in a notebook, never published it online. but i first posted fics online in high school (as a freshman i think), and i think the first fics i published were for percy jackson and supernatural lol.

20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?

probably revelations. looking at it now, there are certainly things i would change about this one, but i wrote it on and off for 3 years, so i was just really proud when i finally finished it. and there are still a lot of character moments i wrote into this one that i still love.

also you are my solid ground. plot does not really exist in this fic, but i had the best time writing the steve/nat/sam dynamic. literally dream trio.

(real talk, some of my fave fics are ones that i haven't finished yet/haven't published yet. i think my newest favorite fic is the kanan character study one i'm working on now. i still have a little bit to go, but i'm really close to finishing it, and i'm just so proud of it. there's so much about it that i love and i can't wait to share it (hopefully by the end of the year!)).

ANYWAYZZ another rlly cool thing abt the series is the many canon queer bots!!! :D their mostly in the idw comics tho, such as the comic series 'more than meets than the eye' and lost light' which features multiple main characters who r gay and have a bunch of mlm relationships, as well as lost light having some t4t lesbians who r prominent EEE it so cool to see!! another example of transgenderformers is in the newest show 'transformers earthspark' which features one of the main characters who is nonbinary!! their sooo cool :]!!

Queen & Uni are currently co fronting with me just bc of the movie btw we are on our sixth watch now this week. “Attention from my darling amazing boyfriend.” Y/N chirps and Arlo sighs, rolling over underneath them so they’re laying on his chest. Arlo’s hand raises and he cups their cheek, gently guiding their head closer to his and he presses a soft kiss to their lips.

“There. Now go to sleep.” Arlo huffs, gently patting their head.

“Arlo.” Y/N whines and Arlo sighs again, playing with their hair to try and sooth them. Y/N hums in delight and they lay their head on his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat. They notice his fingers slowing down and they lift their head slightly, seeing him falling back to sleep.

tl;dr This was an amazing episode and definitely lived up to my expectations, the writing and voice talent was amazing, and I really hope we see more of DW soon!

Honestly? This Nonsense. (Link is to a long series of messages to @keturagh at 3am, no joke.) 

But, since then, I’ve figured out an alternative ending that’s much happier. I can’t help it. I want happy endings.

As per #5, all of them lol. The first one that came to mind was Marigolds, but honestly my soulmate au Vhenaslin feels the fluffiest to me.

I haven’t, not yet :( Like, I like the concept but no combination I’ve thought of has given me even the slightest bit of inspiration.

Yep! I received one that was something like “Congrats! You’ve written the most insufferable OC I’ve ever read!!” and it was fucking hilarious because it was on, like, chapter 6? You read 6 chapters about a character you didn’t like and somehow it’s my fault?? lmao

There was another one I can’t remember, too, and twice people have called Elle a bitch. All of these happened to Elle from Duck Pond, so if that’s not a glowing recommendation~

ROFL yeah that’s why I’m here. Like literally why I joined the fandom. 

Everyone I’ve written is m/f and not particularly kinky but pretty damn explicit. Sometimes I do fade-to-black or gloss over for pacing, but mostly... Yeah. There’s smut. let Solas nut

Very clearly Solavellan. Though I’m also very into Opal/Nik from the Minimum Wage Magic books by Rachel Aaron. I listened to the audiobook because Patrick Weekes shared their reading list on twitter once and it was on there and I’m a HUGE sucker for juxtaposition. Gets me every time. 

I’ve since read uuuhhhh almost everything Rachel Aaron/Bachs has read, and there’s lots of great stuff in there, but MWM is still my favorite series of hers by far. My own personal Couch AU. 

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Uuhhhh.... So many? Or more like I’m scared I never will, in any case. I started drafting a list of my WIPs and it got... long. I can’t think of any I made a deliberate choice to never finish. There’s only 1 fic that I wrote that I didn’t post.

15. What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue, pacing, and sex~ 

I consider my dialogue my biggest asset as a writer tbh

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

In the fandom there’s a tendency to write lines in elvhen and then put the translation at the end and yeah no it drives me bonkers. It completely destroys the immersion and pacing for no pay off. I’m not going to scroll down to understand your story. I just read it straight and try to figure out what’s going on based on context. 

I stick with the well-known canon lines that most of us obsessed fans know by heart. I think sometimes I put a translation in there for newcomers, maybe? One time I used a feature on AO3 where you can hover your mouse over the work and it has like a footnote? that you can use to translate. But I immediately stopped bc #1 I don’t know how that works on mobile and #2 it really doesn’t seem like that’s going to work with screen readers. But otherwise I just say ‘they said in elven’ or have the narrator translate it themself for the reader. 

Also, a lot of people use the elvhen translations from that BNF’s project and like... If you WANT him to say ‘I want to paint you with my cum’ then just have the courage to say it straight! 

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

lmao Harvest Moon. Yeah. After that was Tamora Pierce (modern girl in Tortall yep). Then was like a 15 year gap until I got frustrated at the slow pace of the romance with this egg in this game so I wanted to see if there was smut... (Cue Googling: Is FanFiction.Net still a thing?)

19. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Oh gosh. Hmm. I love all my girls, but Duck Pond was/is a major work of love. Unlike my short works I really had the chance to explore more in a full length fic, you know?

(Marigolds is also full length but it was my first fic and there’s some spots that I’m not too proud of.)

20. What’s a fic you’re proud of that hasn’t gotten much attention?

because I want an excuse to mention how hard I worked on Kirkwall Noir and how I’m surprised how little readership it’s gotten. It’s Varric! It’s Marigold! It’s super short, unlike most my stuff. Maybe that’s why people don’t like it?

1) How many works do you have on AO3?

Only 2! I'm pretty much unable to write shorter works/oneshots, so I don't make a lot of stuff but I do make them long.

2) What’s your total AO3 word count?

210 852 as of this moment.

3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

I was going to say two (critical role and the 2012 teenage mutant ninja turtle show back in my midteens) but then I had the horrifying realization that I did indeed write Starshine Legacy fanfic when I was, like, eleven. I didn't even know fanfic was a thing back then. I just liked the games and I liked writing so I combined the two.

4) What are your top five fics by kudos?

Only two fics to rank (those early works are on other platforms), but:

5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I tried with Among the Nein and like the first chapter of Worldhoppers, but it got a little overwhelming after a while. Communication is hard, you know, and I ended up spending a disproportionally large amount of time trying to figure out how to reply and still ended up going just "thanks for commenting :D" most of the time. I'll probably reply to the comments of the last chapter for Worldhoppers when it’s eventually posted though.

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I tend toward happy endings, actually! And of my 2 critrole fics only one is finished so far, so hard question to answer.

7) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I mean, Among the Nein is a critrole among us au, that probably counts as a pretty crazy crossover? I also played with the idea of a critrole taz balance crossover (even started writing it, featuring Kravitz coming to reap an amnesiac tiefling who refused to die) but ended up discarding the idea.

8) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I did get a negative comment on one of my tmnt fics back in the day. Funnily enough, I didn’t realize its meaning at the time, as it used an english expression I hadn’t heard before. To me it was jibberish, which really is what that commenter deserved (I did eventually look up the meaning and get a bit upset, but not very much)

9) Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I do not, and doubt I'll ever feel comfortable doing so. I'll probably be skirting the edges of it with later chapters of Worldhoppers, though.

10) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge.

13) What’s your all time favourite ship?

It tends to fluctuate depending on whatever story I'm currently fixated on. Zutara has a special place in my heart however, seeing as it's the first ship I remember shipping. At the moment it's probably shadowgast (surprising no one).

14) What’s a WIP you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Thinks wistfully about that critrole taz crossover.

15) What are your writing strengths?

Definitely world building! I adore world building, be it fantasy or sci fi. I also think I'm fairly good at writing distinct characters and character interactions. (According to comments/reviews I'm also good at writing funny things, which I find continuously odd since I rarely aim to be funny in my writing and my jokes irl tend to fall flat).

16) What are your writing weaknesses?

I can get really rambly and preachy, lol. 

I’m also hindered a bit by the fact that I’m constantly mentally stuck somewhere between English and Swedish. I always keep google translate open in a tab to hop between the two for when I can only figure out a word in one of the languages, and an English synonym site since my vocabulary isn’t quite as varied as most native speakers (I tend to fixate on certain words and overuse them). I still probably fuck up grammar and expressions a lot more than I’m aware of, and I know I mix American/British spelling (why are they different?? it’s the same language??) so I’m kind viewing this whole fanfic thing as practice in case I ever want to write seriously in English.

17) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Don't like it as a rule, but sometimes I can’t help it bc languages are fun when you know them (irritates the hell out of me when I read something and suddenly there are whole phrases I don’t understand, though. At least add a dictionary or something at the end!).

18) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

The Starshine Legacy spooky horse games featuring talking horses, girls with super powers, and an alien kraken locked up under the sea back in elementary school. It was the first full story I ever finished! It was written entirely in Swedish and posted on a forum. (fun fact: one of the readers suggested I also post on a fanfic site and linked me to ao3. I checked it out and came out disappointed that everything there was written in English).

19) What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

Most of the time my favorite is whatever I'm working on at the moment, so right now it's Worldhoppers.

i woke up at 4:30 in the morning with this messy meta about the comparative horror styles of welcome to nightvale vs the magnus archives and how i like them both very much this is not a one is better than the other post because they’re DIFFERENT but also why, personally, nightvale has freaked me out more than TMA  (the magnus archives- im gonna use the abbreviation from now on and in scientific papers u gotta ESTABLISH the acronym and it’s actually kind of annoying bc they’ll establish it ONCE in the abstract and then never say what XJFEFJDOSM or whatever stands for again so if ur like wait WHAT was that again u gotta scroll all the way back up and it’s a whole thing but I digress)   and it has to do with WORLDBUILDING and FRAMING DEVICES and USE OF SECOND PERSON and only a little bit how if a character unironically says “innit” i automatically can’t take them seriously. Anyway it’s stuck in my head so you know I had to make it your problem. Also I’m putting this under a read more bc fjsdjlks holy shit this is gonna get LONG and RAMBLY and D E E P L Y nerdy 

WORLDBUILDING, FRAMING DEVICES, AND (THE USE OF) YOU IN MANGUS AND NIGHTVALE

Part A: whose universe is it anyway? Welcome to horror where the lore is made up and the logic doesnt matter

so I am not the first or last to compare (/maybe wanna crossover a little) the worlds of

wtnv (welcome to nightvale) and TMA and like for good reason bc in many ways they feel very similar but in TMA it’s like What the FUCK is going on with all of these horrors and nightmarish scenarios I am FREAKED out where as WTNV treats it’s horrors as typically mundane which

A: plays into why when WTNV is like “remember how we’re a horror :)” it’s like OH SHIT bc if Jon Archivist is scared you’re like well yeah it’s scary out there but if CECIL PALMER, general attitude of a peppy cheerleader when facing terrors beyond imagination, is scared, you KNOW shit is FUCKED

B: isn’t entirely accurate, because I don’t actually feel like they are set in the same world. here’s where things get sticky when it comes to realities and whatnot but I do wanna stress that yes I know WTNV and TMA are both works of fictions BUT I would personally say that

TMA is set in a parallel universe:  a reality that’s similar to our own but also distinctly separate from anything that we, the audience, can witness but never participate in

WTNV is set in a hidden universe: it is set in our (the listeners) own reality, and is done in such a way that it feels like if you looked hard enough for it or if you just had a bout of bad luck or if you happen to drive down a certain road in a long stretch of US desert (side note: if there’s any real life place nightvale would be set in it’s definitely new mexico have you ever been in new mexico it’s called land of ENCHANTMENT for a reason if I drove into new mexico and drove back out a few days later and like THIRTY YEARS had passed I’d be like yeah that tracks) that you could end up in the reality of nightvale. Who’s to say there’s not a faceless old woman secretly living in your house? Are you sure there’s nothing odd in your mirror? Who can ever be sure time is working correctly?

Which brings me to

Part B: You(yes, you!)’ve Been Framed!

Listen. I fucking love a good framing device. Every time a podcast is like “here’s why the events of the story are recorded in the world of the story” I go bonkers in yonkers that shit SLAPS. TMA and WTNV both do this, but (at least up to ep 176 of TMA, this whole fuckin essay could still be blown out the water) TMA’s framing device doesn’t account for an audience, where as WTNV’s the audience is a core component

the framing device of TMA is that these spooky stories are being recorded by an archivist in order to have an audio version of written statements. Cool! It tells the audience why these recordings exist, and why they’re episodic. Later in the story, the tapes begin to spontaneously show up because of Spooky Reasons that have yet to be Fully Revealed, but it still isn’t for an audience. When Jon Archivist records these tapes, they’re basically being recorded for a Void. Yes, the tapes are originally for a potential researcher to listen to, but that ain’t you chief. You are not part of the narrative (so far at least! Again, maybe the audience will be brought into the story when it’s revealed What’s Up with the spontaneous tapes, but so far nah), there’s no in universe explanation for why you personally are listening to these stories. You aren’t present in the story, in the framing device, so you are not a part of that world.

The framing device of WTNV is that you are tuning into the community radio of a small desert town, Nightvale, that you are a part of. After all, if you are tuning into something local, you’re strongly implied to be local. Thus, we have a framing device that explains both why it’s recorded AND why you’re listening. The audience is absolutely involved in the narrative rather than a simple spectator. Cecil Palmer is not recording into a Void, he’s talking to listeners of which you are a part of. (side note: this makes nightvale liveshows SUPER fun if u get an opportunity to go to one I HIGHLY recommend it bc while there’s not ‘audience participation’ in the classic sense of like magic or comedy acts the narrative IS constructed in a way that you feel less like a witness of a story and more of a participant like the one I went to most of us pulled our legs onto out chair bc oh SHIT maybe there IS an escaped librarian under your chair making a grab for your feet SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF IS FUN AS HELL YALL)

These framing devices are enforced and enhanced upon by who the “you” in a narrative is.

In TMA, when there’s a “you” being referred to, when there’s a listener, it’s usually an in universe character. When there’s lines like “i’m sorry, that’s not what you came here to listen to” it’s not referring to you personally, it’s talking to Jon Archivist or Gertrude Archivist or Insert Archival Assistant. When TMA does use a more general “you”, it’s still in universe rather than the external listening to audience. You can include yourself as part of that general you, but it’s not inherently built into the narrative. If you want to distance yourself, you can also do that. You are not automatically in this world, even if much of it feels repeatable and/or similar

WTNV sometimes uses you to refer to an in universe character, because conversations do happen, but in the episodes where it’s like LMAO THIS IS A HORROR, the “you” and general second person is actively both discussing a known character and the listener personally. One of the most recent episodes, ep 171 “Go to the Mirror?” is a BRILLIANT example of this, where Cecil is simultaneously discussing himself and his experiences AND you as well. There’s something he can only see in the mirror, something with such sharp claws, on his shoulders, but it’s also something you personally can only see in the mirror, something on your shoulder.  You are not exempt from the story, you can’t be exempt from the story, because you’ve always been a part of it. (Also side note go to the mirror is SO fuckign good it made my heart fuckin POUND the amount of times that despite knowing it was fiction I looked over my shoulder so many times. I know a shit ton of people listened to WTNV in like 2012/13 and dropped off and felt guilty and never caught up again but like. Catch up on nightvale it’s good for body and soul and also Cecilos just keep winning)

WAY too long; didn’t read: to me personally while I LOVE both TMA and WTNV, WTNV is scarier to be because TMA feels like a story that you’re bearing witness to (also thank god british people aren’t real and were made up for the Peppa Pig Cinematic Universe), WTNV feels not just like a story that you could be in but actively already are and that makes things SPOOKY

Also this isn’t related to the essay but shout out to whoever first decided that horror narrators should have nice even voices we really all be soothed by some grisly ass stories the amount of people that fall asleep to WTNV/TMA is WILD
