Lookism Characters and Their Tastes in Music ♪ (Headcannons)

Daniel Park:

Daniel likes alternative/indie pop, Soul, and R&B. He likes any song that gives a chill vibe to it and songs with nice lyrics.

Khai Dreams, mxmtoon, Keshi, etc.

He enjoys listening to Lo-Fi too, while he just lays on the ground in his house, relaxing, contemplating about events in his life until he accidentally falls asleep.

Sometimes, he sends Jay a text message asking what songs he’d recommend and Jay would send him a three-page list of songs in an online document

Zack Lee:

Hip-hop, Rap, and R&B

Consists of hyped artists like Drake, 21 Savage, A$AP Rocky, Lil Uzi, etc.

He used to be a big fan of Kanye West, but after Kanye’s multiple controversies, he stopped listening to his music because he now believes that he’s trash.

But on days when he feels down, he listens to artists like Joji. *insert Glimpse of Us here while Zack cries a river*

Vasco:

Vasco is into the older classic 60s-80s bands: Queen, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Journey, etc.

Prefers the oldies with meaningful lyricsm rather than the new songs on the radio

However, he enjoys listening to more of the earlier 2010s boy bands like One Direction, and Backstreet Boys from the 90s. (He even listens to that one song that Daniel and Duke made, on repeat since he asked Duke to send him a copy of that song.)

Doesn’t mind listening to some classic 70s songs from Air Supply, Bee Gees, Earth, Wind, and Fire, etc. in peaceful late night jogs

Jay Hong:

R&B and Soul (boujee tastes 💸)

Frank Ocean, Daniel Caesar, Steve Lacy, Khali Uchis, etc.

He has similar tastes to Daniel as well, and recommends Daniel tunes that provides relaxation and chill vibes.

The both of them would sometimes sit together during classroom break, and Jay would share one of his Airpods with Daniel. He’ll play songs that he thought that Daniel might like while he helps him do homework.

Jay even tried to ask Duke if he could get a copy of the song that he and Daniel performed at the festival. It took Duke a while to understand what Jay was trying to say, but he did manage to send it to him at some point. Once he got the song, he secretly played it on repeat for over a month.

Mira Kim:

Pop, Alternative/Indie (But a lot of people don’t know that she’s interested in this genre. Many assumed that she’s into K-pop like Zoe, since they’re both close.)

Clairo, Mitski, Marina and the Diamonds, Halsey (Especially her Badlands Album), Melanie Martinez, Lana Del Rey, etc.

Sometimes listens to R&B/Soul too (like NIKI, Justine Skye, Kiana Lede, etc.) whenever she chills on her bed

Whenever she studies in her room, she likes putting these songs on in the background to help her get in the zone

Zoe Park:

HUGE K-Pop fan

Other than BTS, she’s also a fan of other groups like NCT, ATEEZ, Stray Kids, ENHYPHEN, The Boyz, Blackpink, TWICE, Red Velvet, G-IDLE, LE SSERAFIM, STAYC, NewJeans, etc.

Also listens to older groups too and goes on a K-pop marathon late at night while doing homework with BIG BANG, Super Junior, INFINITE, VIXX, EXO, ToppDogg, iKON, etc.

She also loves listening to the older girl groups like 2NE1, Girl’s Generation, Wonder Girls, F(x), Girl’s Day, AOA, etc.

Eli Jang:

Eli likes to listen to bands such as Cigarettes After Sex, The Neighbourhood, Arctic Monkeys, The 1975, etc.

Loves the cool vibes of these Alternative/Indie bands with a hint of low sensuality to them.

He’s also interested in listening to artists like Chase Atlantic.

But of course, he doesn’t listen to these songs around Yenna. He doesn’t want her to acquire such vulgar words, and he doesn’t want to ruin her innocence. (Listening to these types of songs was like a guilty pleasure for Eli.)

Vin Jin:

Vin Jin listens to rap artists that inspire him and his style in rapping and hip-hop

Listens to K-Rap by Flowsik, ZICO, DPR LIVE, Jay Park, Dok-2, Simon Dominic, Dumbfoundead, etc.

His celebrity crush is Jessi and he’s a major fanboy if he ever sees her in person

Wants to reach international levels of Asian rap, like Rich Brian’s level someday, who’s a part of 88rising

Mary Kim:

Mary mostly listens to female rap artists that give off BBE ✨

She LOVES Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Saweetie, Lizzo, Doja Cat, etc.

Also listens to badass female K-rappers like CL, Jessi, HyunA, Lisa from Blackpink, etc.

Sometimes, she even listens to other artists like Audrey Nuna, REI AMI, BIBI, etc.

Johan Seong:

Listens to edgy rock bands (post-hardcore, metalcore, and punk) 💀

Consists of Pierce the Veil, Sleeping with Sirens, Bring me the Horizon, I Prevail, Of Mice & Men, Breaking Benjamin, etc.

On nights when he walks his dog Eden, he likes listening to bands such as Paramore, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, etc. (Edgy bands that give off low vibes.)

His fav song is Take me to Church by Hozier, even though it isn’t even close to punk.

Since Zack is a fan of hip-hop, he discovered darker hip-hop genres one day and he thought of Johan while listening to them. He then recommended Johan to listen to Hip-Hop Punk Rap and Horrorcore Trap Metal. Mostly artists like Suicide Boys, Freddie Dredd, and even CORPSE.

Johan digged the song reccs that Zack offered, and now he goes to him for more artists to listen to.

Jake Kim:

Jake is into love songs by Justin Bieber, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, even Big Time Rush. (Similar to Vasco’s tastes)

He also enjoys listening to R&B and Soul music by Chris Brown, Jason Derulo, Usher, Ne-Yo, etc.

Sometimes when he’s home alone, he’d sing in front of the mirror while pretending to serenade someone by smoothing out his hair seductively, blasting these songs all night.

I like to believe that this man got a good voice, so of course, he’ll nail these songs if you take him to karaoke.

Samuel Seo:

R&B and Trap Soul is his way to cope

Certain nights when he likes to feel sexy while standing naked in front of the window to his condo, he blasts music by Jeremih, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Tory Lanez, Bryson Tiller, Trey Songz, etc. (similar to Gun’s type of music but thank god he doesn’t know that they have similar tastes in music)

When he feels low in spirit, he drinks to songs that are relatable to him and has the same vibe as his mood like 6lack - PRBLMS, SZA, The Weeknd, Travis Scott - Power is Power, blackbear - do re mi, Russ - Overdue, etc.

Samuel listens to these types of songs on occasion though, and doesn’t have time to sit down and actually listen to them since he’s always been so busy with work.

Gun Park:

Similar to Jay Hong’s taste in music, he got “expensive” tastes in music as well ✨

Late at night while drinking alone, he likes listening to sensual R&B. (Some days, The Weeknd, Bryson Tiller, Tory Lanez, etc.)

During his workouts, he enjoys listening to rap and hip-hop from artists such as, 21 Savage, Meek Mill, Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Denzel Curry, etc. (Songs that get his blood pumping, while working out.)

Sometimes, he also listens to K-Chill R&B artists, like DEAN, Sik-k, Crush, DPR LIVE, Jay Park, etc. whenever he goes out on late night drives in an expensive car.

Gun HATES the music that Goo puts on whenever he’s driving themselves to any destination. He gets annoyed whenever Goo takes the AUX chord and plays weird songs from “sus” artists such as DBangz, Lil Boom, and sometimes Yung Gravy.

Gun punched Goo one time when he started blasting “Thick ****** and Anime Tiddies”. Gun would yell at him saying, “What is this trash?!” and the fight would eventually escalate to another one of their side-of-the-road brawls

Goo Kim:

This man’s taste in music is ALL OVER THE PLACE. Just chaotic.

Although, he has some shared music tastes with Gun. (Mostly similar tastes in Hip-Hop songs.)

He enjoys listening to fun and bouncy music, that goes with his moods really well (Pop or hip-hop, it doesn’t matter to him. Just no country music. He, “can’t stand that shit.”)

On days when Gun is annoyed with Goo, he’ll intentionally play country music just to annoy Goo just to get back at him, while going on long drives anywhere. Goo would eventually punch Gun on the arm, almost causing the car to swerve, until Gun decides to pull the car to the side of the road and fight him then and there.

LOVES listening to very weird, unhinged music. Mostly by artists like Yung Gravy, Bbno$, Lil Boom, Dbangz, etc. (probably even Pink Guy)

Goo is a big fan of Tyler the Creator, since he’s also a big goofy guy who doesn’t care about anyone else but himself and making money (through his music). Not only does he like his unique style and music, but he finds him very admirable for not caring about people’s thoughts on him, no matter what type of outrageous or unusual things he says.

He definitely enjoys listening to popular anime OPs and OSTs from anime that he liked when he’s at home.

DG:

DG doesn’t have a preferred taste in music, but he enjoys music outside of his own demographic.

Since he always listens to K-pop 24/7 (because of his job), he doesn’t mind listening to other types of music as well, and seeks out for new music to listen to.

He is very open-minded. Some days, he’ll listen to American Hip-hop or Rock (Kid Cudi, Childish Gambino, etc.) and other days he’ll listen to Latin Trap. (Farruko, Bad Bunny, Ozuna, etc.)

During his trips overseas, he’ll listen to traditional Japanese instrumentals to relax while riding in his private jet. The music would often lull him to sleep, as it is calm and perfect for someone who’s constantly busy.

Eugene:

🎼 Likes listening to classical music while reading a book, or doing paperwork. (Mostly dark academia classical music.)

Beethoven, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Bach, Franz Liszt, etc. makes him focus and concentrate.

Also, he’s an enthusiast of the historical American “Jazz Age”, which was music from the 1920’s. (But his interest in jazz is not limited to just that era. He likes jazz all the way to the current jazz of today.) 🎷

Eugene has exquisite tastes in music. Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, and Chet Baker, gives him comfort and puts him at ease.

He collects vinyl records of these famous artists, and likes listening to jazz music while sipping on a cup of tea or coffee, admiring the sweet tunes of the Roaring Twenties while looking out the window from his office.

Not only does he like classical, and jazz music, but he’s also interested in Traditional Pop. (The forefathers who started pop and got famous in Las Vegas shows.)

Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Paul Anka, etc. puts him in a very festive mood, especially while sitting in his office while putting together a blueprint of his devious plans.

Dream Job Writing Legion of Super Heroes Pt. 5

What is the high concept of the Legion of Super Heroes?

With apologies to all of the fantastic talents who have written the Legion over the years, I don’t think that question has been one they have cared to ponder.

Which is another reason I am the only sensible choice to write the Legion.

That question matters to me and is the reason screaming in the minds of Legion fans of why the Legion is different from other comic teams.

The high concept of the Legion is that it is an examination of personal expressions of heroism.  

Everyone has a different concept of being a hero and how they can live their life in service to an heroic worldview.

The Legion is just that.  A huge group of heroes.  Far more than just about any other book has entertained (with the possible exception of the All-Star Squadron). Having such a large lineup loudly begs the question, “Why?”

We could easily only have a single Superman-type on the team.  We could do it just like the JLA, but we don’t.  “Why?”

Because having huge number forces you to look at their differences as a means to justify their inclusion, and that to me is where the Legion gets really interesting.

In the real world, SOME people join the military because they want to be heroes. (That certainly isn’t the only reason people sign up, but it is one.)

Now for that subsection, it means a lot of different things. Some of those people could see the level of respect awarded to soldiers and desperately crave that.  Some could feel that joining the military gives them an opportunity to earn that respect.  Others might feel if they join that society would be obligated to give them that respect --- and screw anyone who doesn’t.

Some might see it as an opportunity to become a better person and the whole respect thing will sort itself out.

And that is just scratching the surface on one tiny aspect of why someone might become a soldier. There are thousand of variations to the question why people put their lives at risk for others.

The Legion is an opportunity to explore the motivations of each member.

Is it ok to have a member who is power hungry like Zoe Saugin?  It’s certainly non-standard, but is there anything INHERENTLY unheroic about it?  I would argue no. 

Does it suggest Kinetix may end up being a power mad supervillian? Yeah, maybe....but I would strongly argue she makes a far more interesting character --- and a far, far, far, more interesting hero if she doesn’t take that very well trod path.

How does she interact with the power hungry despots of the 31st century?  I would guess on a case to case basis, very differently than her colleagues. 

Drake Burroughs is the truest conception of a “future” hero.  Wildfire is literally a man transformed into a futuristic science concept.  He walks around in a futuristic version of a space suit, complete with space helmet.  Nothing says “future” and “alien” more than that. He is the Legion is a lot of ways.

He is now a mass of energy in a bag.  He is a human consciousness desperately trying to engage society in a pretense of still be a human being because if he tries hard enough he can recapture the kinds of relationships he had when he had a body.  

He doesn’t want to think about what a unique lifeform he is.  Being unique in that is utterly terrifying.  Is he immortal? Will everyone he knows die? How long will his sanity last? When will he start to be alone? What will he become?

He wants to sit down with Ultra Boy and have a beer.  He wants to walk with Dawnstar and feel her hand holding his.   He wants all of this --- not what he has.

But his life isn’t totally ruined.  

He also gets to be the swashbuckling hero of his dreams --- and he is actually quite good at it; Like amazingly good at it!  He is one of the Legion’s heavy hitters --- right up there with Superman, Mon-El, Element Lad, and Dawnstar....

But... If he ever sat down and talked to a counsellor a question would come barreling up from his subconsciousness, “Is he one of the Legion’s most beloved native born ‘heroes of earth’ because he wants to help people, or does he do it because being a superhero opens him up to being part of a peer group with other humanoids?”

Wildfire needs the Legion and will fight to the death for his teammates.

If it is all an act for social acceptance on a deep level --- one that he certainly doesn’t realize --- is that still OK? 

If you start unwrapping that onion, you’d reach the conclusion that Wildfire probably realizes it deep down and would tend to avoid people like Brainiac 5, Saturn Girl, and maybe even Matter Eater Lad --- Legionnaires who are very insightful and may push his thoughts down a path he actively doesn’t want to consider. 

This would keep him from seeking improvements on his suit from Brainy and other self destructive thought processes.  There is a tiny bit of Cliff Steele there, but unlike the Doom Patrol’s “Robotman”, Wildfire sees being the best hero he can be as a cure/distraction from slipping into depression.  When he gets depressed, he “heroes” harder...

He wants superficial interactions with everyone except Dawnstar, who sees him for what he is and loves him anyway.

Wildfire was initially written as a natural hero with off the chart instincts and absolutely fearless.  He is the man of action.  That’s the wildfire I fell in love with as a fan.  The guy who emerged on the scene and was quickly elevated to Legion leader. The guy who, when no one else had a clue about it, figured out the Legion’s smartest member had quietly gone insane.  

Then he was written by Paul Levitz as a lovelorn being full of self doubt.  

In my mind, he is ideally both of those things. 

All of his presented behavior would be about being “the dude” on the Legion.

Wildfire, to me, is like a what if story.  He is the Swamp Thing if Alec Holland had refused to acknowledge the existence of the Parliament of Trees.  (And no I definitely don’t want to revisit a Parliament of Fire with DC fire entities.  The Parliament of Trees was a useful plot device in a swamp thing story.  No reason to drag wildfire with his weird futuristic anti-energy powers into a non-related, super derivative thing like that.  That would be giving in to a non-productive desire to see everything fit together seamlessly. PLENTY of other paths to take.)  

I think Wildfire is a personal horror story bubbling under the surface of Legion super hero stories.

Gim Allon is another wildly unique story. His mother becomes UP president.  How does that just randomly happen?

He is one of the only (?) members of the Science Police to join the Legion. Does he leak information to the SP?  They would certainly want that access, but there are probably people in the SP (Police Chief Zendak?) who would absolutely put a stop to Allon being compromised in that way. Do the Legion put restrictions in place to specifically limit him confiding information to the SP?

Like all Legionnaires, Colossal Boy is sworn to pursue being the best hero he can be.  Does his history make it harder for him than any other Legionnaire?

There are stories untold buried in the previous timelines’ histories that will make these issues absolutely compelling to new and old readers alike.

oh well thank you very much. unfortunately the only thing i have a lot of thoughts on right now is playchoices because even when i am off doing things and seeing sights i still make time for my little pixel friends. anyway i'm absolutely fascinated by the way they write these books sometimes like what's the point of doing multi love interest stories if you're going to continuously force one of them on me even if i'm with someone else. like open heart is fun but your dynamic with ethan is INSANE if he's not your LI (and i'm a bryce gal) like imagine if your boss/kind-of-friend-even-though-he's-annoying came up to you and was like "wanna engage in bdsm so i stop feeling bad about the fact i keep breaking hospital rules." like HELLO? what is this??? i've seen people complain about the royal romance for forcing prince on you in the first two books but that at least made SENSE for the story given that it's based on you trying to win his hand in marriage and you haven't exactly told him you're in love with someone else and you decide to wait until he proposes to do it. and then it's never brought up again except for that scene during your bachelorette party when you can hook up with your past crushes but it's not like drake walker is asking if he can tie me up after i've made it clear i'm with hana. on a side note i've seen drake playthroughs and they're really trying to act as if that man is dominant in bed? he's getting pegged every other night don't kid yourself. but i digress! i think all multi LI books would benefit from being more like mother of the year which allowed you to flirt around or commit to one person and every diamond scene was vague enough that it could be friendly or romantic and then by the end you could date one person or all or nobody. THAT'S fun! but on the other hand i think some of their single LI books fall flat because they don't bother to make the LI in question likeable and yes i am talking about the nanny affair. then again i suppose this can be a problem with the multi LI books too given that AME had such a fun cast and then your four love interests were the most boring characters until they decided last minute that you could marry bianca or slater, but only if you leave your current fiance/e at the altar. anyway it's just so baffling to me when playing them because there's no REASON for them to push weird scenes onto you if you're not pursuing that character romantically, especially since it seems to be more of a problem in their newer books than the older ones. also wait sorry this is already nonsense to most of you but i just remembered queen b where it SHOULD be considered a multi LI book given that you can get with zoe OR your professor, and then you can also have sex with like, half your classmates, but then the entire plot revolved around your "Affair" with this professor which like...not everyone romanced them!!! i admit that i did because i thought it would be fun but honestly they were just kind of annoying and whiny. actually all of the ~older~ LIs in choices tend to be annoying and whiny which could be a commentary on something but i think pixelberry actually thinks it's romantic. ultimately i think despite its many flaws the freshman series is probably the best multi LI story post the first book because it's pretty equal and also becca davenport is THE woman of playchoices like how did they manage to do an enemies to friends to lovers storyline so well in one of their most boring books!!!! crazy. anyway i hope ethan gets fired for his medical malpractice i'm sick of him.

In a world full of rom-coms, when was the last time you cried over an onscreen breakup that actually stuck? No grand gestures to save the day, just pure, raw, lust and heartbreak. If you want to get so deep in your feels you forget if you’re actually heartbroken or just bleary-eyed over someone else’s love story, then you may need to subscribe to the church of Drake Doremus.

The director is known for his mostly improvised, chill-inducing romantic dramas (Like Crazy, Newness, Equals) and his latest is a tender-to-the-touch look at a modern love triangle in Endings, Beginnings, which premieres Sunday at Toronto Film Festival. Much like his previous work, Endings, Beginnings is clever and cutting, but also soft and quiet. Shailene Woodley is at the heart of the film playing Daphne, a thirty-something artist (her specialty is hand-painted tea pots, which she sells on Etsy) who recently and abruptly quit her job and ended her long-term relationship with her boyfriend (Matthew Gray Gubler, in his third Doremus film).

Looking for a hard reset on life, Daphne moves into the pool house of her much more together older half-sister. She also stops drinking, focuses on looking for a new job, and cuts men out of her life. Until, of course, she meets two men at a New Year’s Party. One’s brooding, asking her for a light of a cigarette in the most drunken and charming of ways. He’s wearing a shearling jacket, worn-in with adventures. The other’s in LA’s version of a suit — he’s put together, and looks at her with the steady intentness. Daphne should be avoiding both, but she quickly becomes enamored with bad boy Frank (Sebastian Stan), a nomad who drinks absinthe, and good boy Jack (Jamie Dornan), an academic who has a dog and dreams of moving to Europe. What starts as innocent text-flirting evolves into two full-blown relationships. Oh, and the guys are best friends.

When Stan first read for the film, he read for both Frank and Jack’s role, but what really attracted him to the heady rom-dram was Dormeus himself, of whom he’s been a huge fan. “I met him and I said, ‘I gotta tell you, I don’t know which one of these people you are seeing me as, but I really relate to both of them. I love both,’” he says over the phone to Refinery29. Stan’s in London where he’s filming the spy-thriller 355, a movie he says is “stylistically and tonally very different,” than Endings, Beginnings, but with “a couple of similarities here and there.”

“And we just got very deep. We got into relationships and being in our 30s and the world we are in right now, and all our experiences.” The vulnerability seen on-screen between Woodley, Stan, and Dornan is something special, and almost entirely improvised, based on just 30 pages of notes. Endings, Beginnings is a far cry from the big budget Marvel movies you’re used to seeing Stan in (he plays Captain America’s pal Bucky Barnes in seven Marvel movies and one upcoming spin-off series.) I was reading your Instagram post earlier gushing about working on this film with Drake. When did you become a fan of his, and why did you two think Frank was the role for you?

“I was aware of [Drake] for awhile. Like everyone else, I loved Like, Crazy, and then I also like his recent movie with Nicholas Hoult, Equals. I was also just really interested in doing a movie and improvising  —   because the entire movie is practically improvised. I never worked in that medium before. I got a call saying, Hey do you want to meet with Drake and talk about this movie [and] read the draft?, which was basically like 30 pages. There were two guy [parts] at the time. I met him and I said, ‘I gotta tell you, I don’t know which one of these people you are seeing me as, but I really relate to both of them. I love both.’ And we just got very deep. We got into relationships and being in our 30s and the world we are in right now, and all our experiences. Again, I didn’t really know that is where we were gonna go, but he was very honest with me and I was honest with him. We parted ways, and the next thing I knew he called me to have a session with somebody at the time that he was thinking of for the role as Daphne, and I went in and had a 3-hour improv session with him, then he called me and told me that he wants me to do the Frank role and I was fine with that.”

Only 30 pages. Everything else is improv? All the film’s dialogue?

“Yes, that is all literally on the day, in the moment, happening real-time. Basically, the script that he had was just the outline: Daphne comes out a recent relationship and moves in with her best friends. They’re having a New Years Party, and she runs into Frank who asks her for a cigarette. It was all outlines, but in terms of the dialogue and how we would get there, that was all improvised. That was an interesting experience because I had never worked that way and no take is ever the same. I walked away from that experience feeling very vulnerable. You’re not hiding behind any lines.”

The improvisation really added to the film. I left it feeling more emotional than I expected.

“We’ve all had relationships, and we know how tricky they are. They’re complex and there’s many layers. I don’t know — I have always loved romantic comedies. I grew up on When Harry Met Sally and all that, but I sometimes feel that relationships aren’t entirely depicted as messy and as raw and as painful as they are. That’s why I loved working with him because I feel like he gets to the core of situations. I’m happy to hear you related to it because that is what he wants. He wants you to go, 'I’ve had that conversation...been in that situation.’”

There’s been a resurgence in romantic comedies, but not so much romantic dramas like this. Do you think there’s a reason why?

“I love romantic comedies and there is a space for them, but [rom coms] are hopeful. Sometimes when I go to the movies, I don’t want to necessarily see what my life is. I want to be like, Hey! It’s nice to think that maybe that could be that way. If you want to be inspired, or laugh a little bit — there’s that element of it. And sometimes you want to see a movie that makes you feel less alone in your experience. A lot of European films are much closer to this, and I think Drake loves a lot of European films and is influenced by them and the personal quality. Structurally in romantic comedies, you have bigger things happening, right? Whereas [in this movie], there are big things happening, but there’s a much more subtle transition through everything.”

Frank is the “player” of the film, while Jack is the “good guy,” for lack of a better phrase. You’ve said before that you didn’t really know why you were often cast as the “bad boy.”  Do you still not know why?

“I don’t know! [Groans] I don’t know. The truth is, the reason I was saying [I could play] Jack was that I talk a lot in my life. I philosophize a lot. I try to read things. Then I think about it, and then I wanna talk about it. I relate to that [aspect of Jack]. And actually, there was a lot to Frank and Daphne that we shot that was funny. They had a lot of their own back and forth, but what ended up being in the movie —  I think Drake never forgot the vision that he had for Frank — [was him] being much darker than we shot. I am happy it ended up that way because there needed to be a contrast.

But I don’t know! I am glad they think I can do this. I am one of the most over-thinking, neurotic people I know. So I don’t know how it happens, but it keeps happening.”

I thought a big part of Frank also was his big shearling jacket. Since most of the movie was improvised, did you have anything to do with his outfits?

“Oh yeah, I kept that jacket, first of all. It’s a great jacket. What’s great about Drake is that he was like, ‘Hey, listen, people wear the same stuff all the time. If something works, let’s just it.’ I was like yeah, the guy probably kind of flies by the seat of his pants anyways so he just has a few things. I think I wore some of my own jeans. The boots I wore were mine. Drake definitely wanted us to wear our own stuff so we could feel comfortable in it.”

This was originally called No, No, No, Yes and ended as Endings, Beginnings. How did the title change shape the movie?

“It was always a working title. I saw that it was paired up with her experience — every no and every yes was paired to one of the relationships that she was going through. Endings, Beginnings is a little more specific. I know for awhile he was even contemplating a title that was even just made up of emojis which I thought would have been really fun.”

Oh yeah. I loved the texting aspect in this movie.

“There is an element of texting in the time period we are in, and there is this new language to it. They got it in the sense that both Jack and Frank have their very specific ways of texting. Jack probably uses punctuation, and Frank does not. [Laughs]”

You’ve worked with a few of the Big Little Lies women now. Do you have plans to work with the others like Zoe Kravitz, Reese Witherspoon, or Laura Dern?

“That has not hit me — that’s kinda funny. I don’t think I have ever met Reese Witherspoon and I’ve met Laura Dern. If the opportunity presents itself then great. I certainly wouldn’t have had a problem if there had been a role in the second season. I would have done it in a second. I loved the first season.”

I have one more that I have to ask about — obviously Gossip Girl is getting rebooted, and Chace [Crawford] said it made him feel “old,” but he’d be down. Have you thought about it at all?

“[Laughs] I don’t even… it’s so weird. Somehow a lot of people talk to me about Gossip Girl, and I always thought I was just a guest star. It was a very special show. It certainly defined those years, and we all got our start there in a way. It would be hilarious and weird and crazy. He’s right — we are old! I don’t know what business they’d have with me, but, Jesus. If there was some funny little witty thing and they called and we’re like, ‘We’re doing this thing and we have everybody….’ I’m not gonna be the asshole that says no. Maybe I’ll be in the background scooping some ice cream.”

Remembering

Time changes many things. In the space of several months since the wedding Livian had seen a great upheaval of the world around her. Her boss had died cruelly and been resurrected. Her child had grown at an exponential rate and her “family” had been scattered to the winds in the time of chaos. War had come once again to Azeroth, only this time...the war was for the precipice of life itself. The afterlife had been threatened- upheavals of the balance risking the cycle and the inherent way of things. Everything was now in danger, and so....the heroes of Azeroth had been called on once again to traverse the gap and try to set things right. To prevent disaster and the unraveling of the very world.

In the past Livian would have been an active participant in such things. She would have gone with the others to fight for and defend what mattered to her. Her friends and family each taking their place within the conflict. But....the child had changed everything. Alysa was....she was all the truly mattered now. Her and Vincent. She loved the family she had found in Stormwind and the bonds of blood she had made. And if they ever were to call for her she would always come to them. But...she also knew inherently that these people would endure on without her. As they had done before she had ever come along. In many ways Livian had served her purpose to Pulchra Morte...and now with the ever present danger looming about the edges, she understood that her most important task in this instance was to protect the child.

And so Livian had hidden Alysa away. Within the confines and safety of the pocket dimension Auric had given her. In the home Vincent had built for them both. Safe and far from all the the horrors of the current world. It was where she had been raising Alysa in secret. And while at times people had come to visit - Vittoria, Zoe, Rain and several others- to see Alysa and fill Livi in on the news of what was happening out there, it could be said that in many ways the dragon had returned to the isolation from whence she had started long ago. Back in a different time, when the young drake had honed her studies alone in an Azure glade. The memory almost like a far off dream now.

But she didn’t mind it- this quiet hidden separateness. It was familiar. A sort of setting apart of things. She did her best to be a good parent and advisor to Alysa, relying heavily on Vincent and the others to teach her the human way of things. She was thankful for the advice and assistance. And grateful that Rain especially was loving in a way she couldn’t be. For though Livian cared deeply there was always....something distant in her ways. A part of her true nature. As much as she tried to be human and as much as Vincent had pulled and changed her there was still the immutable truth that Livian would always be a bit aloof. It was...just who she was. She was sharp and beautiful like a star. But distant too. Her light warming but never fully reaching. And so she relied on the family and Vincent to give Alysa the full love she deserved.

In her isolation, in the dark of the night when the child was asleep and only the shadows were awake to keep her company her mind wandered to many things. Just what was her purpose now? She thought of Vittorias words before the world had opened up in chaos - about the academy she had wanted Livi to help her build. Could she really do that? Use what she had learned to guide others? And would such a thing ever come to pass? For the world was eternally changing. There was no way of knowing if this conflict would ever end. And IF the champions even managed to save things, would the world even be as it was before? She could hope but...in her mind she wasn’t sure.

Livian was an enigma. Both stationary and yet with a hint of restlessness. So much had happened in her time with mortals. And she imagined that there was still much more to come. It wasn’t just the outside world which was suffering. She had felt a change in her lover in the past few months of their quarantine. A sort of....anxious energy which pervaded his dreams. A thing he tried to hide from her. Vincent had gotten much better over time at shielding his thoughts from Livian through the mind connection. He had learned to build and cultivate the mental walls when needed, and the dragon loved and respected him too much to try and truly test them for weak links.

For each of us needs our own bit of sacred alone space inside our minds- she knew that. But...it was not like him to keep things from her. She had never had to use her strength as his master to command him, her sworn. Had never abused that bond. In truth she had only ever forged it to protect him in the first place. But she couldn’t deny that she had been tempted. Something was clearly wrong- weighing on his thoughts. She saw and felt it in his fitful sleep- in the way he clung to her even in rest. She wondered if the others were dealing with such darknesses, if what was happening in Azeroth was a part of all of this. She thought of each of their faces, and she realized...she missed them.

Someday she would have to ask them all. Someday...they would be together again.

Y'all are going to look really dumb when it's revealed that Maya is black siren's kid. Black Siren & Blackstar. Both have green eyes and blonde hair. & in the audition piece her character asked Dinah about Black Siren. Honestly this the marriage thing all over again. I'm going to laugh my ass off. You get what you deserve!

What marriage thing? When I said Olicity was going to getmarried and then they got married? Was that the thing? 

Because that’s whathappened.

I know it can be confusing since there were four proposals,one fake wedding and two real ceremonies. I definitely got what I deserved.No arguments there!

Maybe I’m thinking too specifically about this “marriedthing” because I agree there were some really funny moments on the way to thealtar:

Oliver proposing to Felicity in front of L*urel and sheapplauded.

Oliver leaving L*urel on their wedding day because herealized their fake relationship in the dream world was based off his realmemories from his relationship with Felicity – down to the damn wedding dress L*urelwas wearing. 

And then Oliver decided he’d rather live in a world where he had asnowball’s chance in hell of getting back together with Felicity rather thanstay in a dream world with L*urel living their white picket fence existence.

L*urel telling Oliver ON HER DEATH BED he was the love ofher life and he responded with silence. 

Of course, Oliver didn’t really have tosay anything. L*urel already wished for him to get back together with Felicity 

and acknowledged she knew she wasn’t the love of Oliver’s life.

Oliver telling Felicity, HIS WIFE, that no matter who shebecomes she will always be the love of his life.

That shit was hysterical.

You could be simply referring to general commitment too. Rememberthe time Oliver cheated on L*urel with her sister? 

Or when he cheated on L*urelAGAIN with Samantha (who was also her friend), got her pregnant and never told L*urel until Samanthashowed up in the damn bunker? 

Comedy at its best.

Or when Oliver ran for the hills every time L*urel mentionedany kind of cohabitation and/or long term future together? 

I laughed my ass offboth times he did it. 

The North China Sea and an island from hell were preferablethan a lifetime with L*urel L*nce. HILARIOUS.

Maybe the “wedding thing” isn’t the show at all. You couldbe referring to comments from the cast and crew in relation to Oliver’sromantic endgame like:

Stephen saying it didn’t matter if L*urel had lived. Oliverwould never be with her and it was always going to be Felicity on their show.

The showrunner confirming Bl*ck S*ren and Oliver would neverbe together romantically.

The showrunner saying Oliver would NEVER cheat on Felicity.

The showrunner discussing Emily and Stephen’s chemistry andhow it was lightning in a bottle, while acknowledging Stephen and KC’schemistry is a hot mess. (Friendly reminder you can’t fix chemistry issuesbetween actors no matter how many different versions of the character theyplay.)

ALL KNEE SLAPPERS!!!!! Completely agree Anon.

Of course Hollywood’snumber one concern when casting a role is matching hair and eye color rather than finding the right actor for the role. Just ask Dakota Fanning.She played everyone’s kid. I’m sure she couldn’t even get in the door beforedocumenting her eye and hair color.

She probably needed a DNA sample too because we know the actors areactually producing real children to play their fictional children and thenmagically aging them 20 years. Someone should tell Kat McNamara that Katie isreally her mom. What a hell of an episode that’ll make. SO META.

It’s so sad we have yet to invent hair dye or coloredcontacts if this kind of detail is really important to a director. DAMN YOUSCIENCE.

I mean of course Felicity can’t be the mother because she’sa bottle blonde. Whereas Bl*ck S*ren, who you love to remind us is anexact replica of E1 L*urel L*nce, is clearly a natural blonde. Just like ourL*urel was.

Although, Iseem to remember my 10th grade science teacher saying somethingabout two blue eyes making green in our genetics unit. I also did a 5 secondGoogle search and some guys from the Stanford Genetic labs also confirm it’spossible, but there’s no way they know more than you Anon. I definitely think your dunk-a-person-in-water-and-if-they-don’t-drown-it-means-they-aren’t-a-witch kind of science makes a hell of a lot more sense than Stanford geneticists. If there’sone thing history taught us it’s to follow the science of 1600s Salem,Massachusetts.

But maybe I misunderstood again. Your word gymnastics is sotricky and smart. It’s hard to keep up! 

Maybe you just meant Bl*ck S*ren getspregnant by Mr. Rando. I’m sure we’ll see her love story develop any day now,since she has to get pregnant really soon for Mia’s age to make a damn bit ofsense. Certainly Bl*ck S*ren’s relationship with Mr. Rando will take precedenceover Oliver and Felicity’s love story. It’s not like the show is centered onOlicity, so I’ll be on the lookout for this impending great romance.

Genetics aside, you also alerted me to the iron clad proofof the audition scene!!! What would I do without you anon? I haven’t seen Mia’saudition scene, but if she mentions Bl*ck S*ren then of course it means she’sher daughter. DUH. Everything from the audition scenes ends up in the show. Question – was her name Maya in the audition? 

I did see the audition tapes for nearly every actress whoauditioned for “Tina” aka Dinah Drake. Those leaked everywhere. I bet theshowrunners were pretty ticked. I’m still waiting for the writers to introduceCarlos or dive into Dinah’s service with the Marine Corps. It’s almost like theyput things in the audition scene that don’t end up on the show to throw peopleoff. Ya know, in case the scene leaks.

I remember when people thought there was a chemistry testbetween Stephen (Oliver) and the actress playing Tina (Dinah) in her audition.Everyone freaked out. Olicity was over! Oliver Queen was going to end up withthe new Bl*ck C*nary, which of course is exactly what happened in the show.

Damn it! I’m wrong again!

I really need to rewatch seasons.

Funny enough the snip it of dialogue from the audition scene for Tina did end up in an episode of Arrow. But the scene was betweenDinah and Diggle. 

So weird. It’s almost like they screen tested chemistry withanother actor. But God knows that wouldn’t happen because obviously Oliver isending up with some kind of C*nary.

I know what I’m about to say is insanity, but maybe Bl*ckS*ren was mentioned in the audition scene as a diversion. It could actually beproof Mia’s character has nothing to do with Bl*ck S*ren at all. I’ll be sureto ask the writers once Carlos shows up. It’ll be any day now.

And last, but certainly not least, Bl*ck Siren and Blackstar both have the name BLACK. Does this also mean she’s Dinah and Zoe’s baby? Because they have black in their code names too . Oooh maybe Dinah and Bl*ck Siren get married!!! I do love a good wedding theory. If William ever gets a code name he better make sure it has GREEN in it so people know who the hell he is. That’s the point of a code name right? Damn. Bl*ck S*ren is CIA level. She’s so sneaky. I’m sooo impressed.

Honouring the Past:

Book Series: The Royal Romance/The Royal Heir, references to the It Lives series.

Description: whilst looking through a box of her old stuff, Zoe Beaumont comes across a photo that brings back some memories of a tragedy in her life, it’s up to Maxwell to try to cheer his wife up and that somehow leads to a discussion about what they are going to name the future Heir of Cordonia.

A fairly heavily pregnant Zoe Beaumont was sat in her room shifting through some boxes her dad had sent over of her childhood stuff he’d thought she might like for the baby when she came across it. a framed photo of her and her younger half brother, Fred. It from one time her dad and her had embarked on their annual visit to the town of Westchester in Oregon to visit her mother, Alexandra, stepfather, Elijah and half brother, she could remember that summer clearly. She was twelve, her paternal step mother and step sister , Julie and Liana were pushing the boundaries of their usual petty bullying and she was miserable. Her dad, James, had noticed her mood change and had tried to get it out of her however she wouldn’t tell him so her dad had left her step mother Julie and stepsister Liana to house sit, whilst he and Zoe hopped onto the plane to see the rest of her family in an attempt to cheer her up. It was one of the best things her dad had done, and he was a great dad, but the lengths he was willing to go to to cheer his daughter up always astounded Zoe.

You see, her mom and dad had been best friends since they were little and that hadn’t seemed to change, even after one drunken night when they were sixteen and seventeen that had created Zoe herself, or when they decided to end the relationship that had just fallen out of romantic love when she was two, or when her mom met her current husband Elijah Peralta and had her son, Fredrick when Zoe was five (hell, it was James who introduced Alexandra and Elijah in the first place, and was even best man at their wedding and godfather to Fred) or when her dad married an entitled witch with her spawn of Hell who was the same age as Zoe at six but acted like her spawn was above her despite her being seventeen at her birth just because Zoe was bi-racial and hated her mom just because she was black. Nevertheless, Zoe loved most of the situation she was in, she got on like a house on fire with Elijah, who treated her like she was his own child, and she had the best little brother in the world. She’d had so much fun there, on that holiday, she’d forgotten about the petty abuse she’d suffered at Liana and Julie’s hand, and they’d even gotten the biggest ice cream from a dessert shop on the last day there and that was when the photo was taken. It was one of her happiest memories and one of the last ones before her life went to shit. Her dad got very sick, she was forced to drop out of college and drop her dream of pursuing a career in musical theatre and get a job as a waitress because why should her step mom pay for her husband’s medication, when she was paying for her own daughter’s education? which said daughter then screwed up because she got pregnant by her badboy boyfriend. And then kicked Zoe out of the house on her twenty first birthday so she now had to pay for her father’s treatment (which she didn’t mind really she’d do anything to help her dad) and rent and food. She managed it, for a few years but of course if the opportunity came, to leave she was definitely going to take it. And she was glad she did, when it came along in the form of Maxwell Beaumont (and Liam and Drake). Luckily by that time her father was in remission from his illness and that only added to her choice of escaping. Zoe’s life immediately became better after she left, only hindered by the death of her younger brother just after she’d started (kind of secretly) dating Maxwell.

She remembered that phone call well, she was in the lounge area of the Beaumont’s residence when her mom had called in tears. She’d obviously asked what was wrong and then was told her brother was dead. He’d gone off into the woods with his friends and then most of them had been found dead, with the only survivor being Lucas, a boy that Zoe knew for certain her brother had a crush on and her brother’s body was never found but he was assumed dead as Lucas had told them Fred was dead. She’d broken down on the phone then and there and was inconsolable, to the point where not even Maxwell had been unable to cheer her up in the usual manor.

All this thinking of her brother was making her upset. He was never going to get to see his niece or nephew, he wasn’t going to get to grow old with Lucas, who Zoe met after the funeral, and had her suspicions confirmed that, yeah they were in love with each other. And that upset her. She was also kind of happy thinking of her brother before he died and all the rare but fun times they had together.

“Hey Zo, Liam’s just arrived as have Hana and Drake, to start to get ready for the Apple ball tonight” Maxwell poked his head round the door an excited grin on his face, he was so excited to meet his son or daughter, in a month or so, and Zoe honestly had no doubt he was going to be a great father.

“Hm? Yeah, I’ll be there in a minute” Zoe said sounding uncharacteristically distant

“Woah hold up, what’s wrong my little blossom?” Maxwell’s demeanour suddenly changed from cheerful to concerned as he hurried to his wife’s side.

“It’s nothing, it’s probably just stupid hormones” Zoe sniffed

“Come on Zoe, it’s my job as your husband to cheer my amazing wife and mother of my child up, so what’s up?”

Zoe didn’t say anything but looked down at the photo, Maxwell followed her gaze and gently took the photo from her to have a look

“is that what you looked like as a kid? My wife was cute even then” Maxwell said “and I’m guessing that’s-“

“Fred” Zoe’s voice was barely a whisper

“Is that what’s upsetting you?”

“It’s stupid- it just occurred to me that our kid is never going to meet their maternal uncle and-“

“Hey that’s not stupid, I’d be sad if our kid never got to meet Bertrand if he died before they were born and honestly I’m a bit upset my mother isn’t able to meet them”

“I don’t know why it’s getting to me now though”

“Like you said, hormones” Maxwell joked “ow!” He exclaimed and leapt up as Zoe hit him playfully with the cushion next to her but she managed to smile at him through her tears but then it dropped back

“You know what, we should honour your brother somehow”

“What?”

“why don’t we name them Fredrick if they turn out to be a boy, like you suggested when we were last discussing it?”

“A-are you sure? I seem to remember it was a little too traditional when I last suggested it and I want our kid to have a name we both like”

“It’s grown on me, in fact I think it would be perfect way better than Maxwell Jr” Maxwell smiled

“Really?” Zoe smiled her eyes prickling with more tears

“Yeah anything is better than Maxwell Jr, we’d be honouring your brother in the best way and i think that any sibling of yours would be proud of their amazing sister and her brilliant child even if they never got to meet them”

“Oh Maxwell!” Zoe exclaimed crying harder

“Hey I thought I was supposed to cheer you up, not make you worse”

“I’m not sad, I’m happy, it’s the stupid hormones” Zoe said wiping her eyes with her hand

“Well-“

“-Maxwell, I love you, but if you make another hormone joke that cushion will be thrown at you in a place you don’t want to be hit and I may be eight months pregnant but my strength is just as good”

“Noted”

“Just since were on the topic of baby names, any thought on girl’s names?”

“It’s silly, but I always liked Grace as a name” Maxwell said

“You’re kidding?”

“What? Why?”

“I’ve always liked the name as my mom’s mom was named Grace, and she really helped my mom fight the stigma of being a black teen mom, she died when I was really young but Granny Grace became an inspiration to me” Zoe laughed

“Grace if it’s a girl and Fred if it’s a boy! We’ve got our child’s name sorted!” Maxwell exclaimed before he looked at his wife beaming with delight “I can’t wait to meet them!”

“hopefully not for another month or so though, unless something goes wrong, which is unlikely if we take it easy” Zoe replied

“I’m not sure I can wait that long but I’ll try” Maxwell grinned “I’d rather they be healthy and on time than not though”

“Did you hear that? Just come out when you’re ready, there’s no rush- seriously, you may be your dad’s child and mommy and daddy can’t wait to meet you but take your time okay?” Zoe addressed her bump softly before feeling a kick from the baby “I’m going to take that as a yes”

Maxwell and Zoe laughed at that before Maxwell knelt down and rested his head against his wife’s tummy

“Hey, it’s your dad here, just here to tell you that we’re going to be quite the team, because we’ve already managed to cheer your mom up already”

That was true Zoe was no longer crying or upset in any capacity “Also we need to go to your uncle’s Liam, Drake and auntie Hana and get ready for your mom’s last event before we can meet you and I know she’s feeling nervous about it after the last few eventful weeks we’ve had so if you can give her an encouraging kick that would be great!”

The baby kicked in response again Maxwell looked at Zoe “the baby has spoken” he got up on his feet and offered her his hand “Come on, let’s go and see our friends for the last event before we’re a proper family” Zoe took his hand with a smile and was pulled up by her husband before wrapping her arms around him the best she could

“What’s that for?”

“Thank you Maxwell, for putting up with me and being the best husband ever”

“You don’t have to thank me, I’ve got the best wife ever, although I was half expecting you to blame your hormones for your mood again”

“Aaaand moment over” Zoe said moving away from Maxwell and picking up another cushion from the bed and looking menacingly at Maxwell in a light hearted way, aimed at him

“I forgot! I’m sorry! Zoe! Have mercy! Zoe!” He flinched bracing himself for the thud

Zoe lowered her aim putting the cushion back

“Alright, but only because our friends are waiting”

She smiled and took hold of Maxwell’s warm hand, intertwining her finger in between his

“Come on, let’s go and see our friends”

And the couple walked out hand in hand, knowing that very soon they’ll be a proper family and Zoe was sure any child of hers would make her brother proud, wherever he was now.

A/N: This is my way of coping with the fact that the MC and Their LI has had no discussion about baby names together and this probably won’t be canon but still. Also, I hadn’t really gone into my MC’s backstory although I headcannon that my TRR/TRH!MC and my ITLITW!MC were half siblings and yes, literally only Lucas survived in my play through of ITLITW and my MC got turned into Mr Red (but that was before I really started posting properly on this blog so I didn’t post anything). But yeah, that’s it although I will say that if Pixelberry paywalls naming our baby in the next book I’m done with the series, sorry I’m still a little bitter about the pacing of the first book of TRH. (But I’m pretty they won’t do that as I’m sure if they did everyone would riot). Also ITLITW ended around the time that book 2 of Royal Romance did so I put the end of ITLITW during the events of book 2 of Royal Romance but before Constantine’s assassination as I finished ITLITW a while before TRR book 2. Anyway hope you enjoyed this fanfic! Fun lil origin story about her: my mom missed the majority of my first birthday becuase she had to stay late at work becuase her coworker’s dog was having puppies and had to leave early. My mom was like “Angela if I’m gonna be late for my kids birthday celebration can I at least get first pick of the puppies?” So when the puppies were finally able to go to different homes, my mom sat little one year old me in their pen to let me pick the one we’d take home. Something drew me to the runt of the litter (maybe it was the fact that she didn’t straight up attack me like her brothers and sisters) and she lived a happy 16 and a half years with us.

Not really. I’m 19, barely an adult, so kids aren’t in my plans right now. I’m not sure if they’ll ever be in my plans. But if I do decide I want children one day, I would want to have more than one because I am an only child and I wouldn’t want that for my kid. It gets lonely and I will never know or understand the bond that siblings have. Also I’d want adopt and foster some kids.

Nope unless you count a chapel in Vegas as a church wedding.
