Could you write angel!Adam x sinner!reader and they had something going on before and now extermination day is there and they meet on the battle field? Obviously Adam can't just spare him bc then the others would notice
I fucking got you - this somehow ended up being a lot of hurt without comfort so be prepared.
I don't want you to hate me, no, I want you to wanna hate me
pairing: Adam x male!reader
warnings: language, canon typical violence, major character death
note: not beta read bc fuck you I don't have beta readers
Adam hated going down to hell, no matter what the reason was, even during exterminations he hated the fact that he had to visit Lucifer’s kingdom in order to let some steam off while killing those sinners. What his exorcists did not know was that Adam was more often down in hell than he would ever admit to anyone. The brunette had secrets, secrets that could cause him to fall deep if they were to see the daylight one day. So whenever extermination day rolled around he stayed clear of one certain area in the pride ring to prevent meeting a certain sinner he knew a little too well.
You, on the other hand, always made sure you were to stay somewhere safe - as safe as hell could be during the infamous extermination day, that was. But when that tactic changed because you were running late and you saw the angels flying down from the shiny golden portal that opened in the sky, you knew you were done for. You would not stand a chance against any of them. You rushed through the alleys, tried to hide in the shadows of the buildings as you did your best to reach the safespot you were always hiding at. And as you were to leave the shadows and go for a sprint, an all too familiar angel landed in front of you. And it was then and there that you knew, you would not die by the hand of a random exorcist, no, you were to die by the hand of the angel you considered your lover.
The first man had no problem spotting you, he had known your tactics for years now and had always made sure you were not harmed during this brutal genocide that heaven executed once a year, this year however, he had seen you running through hell’s open streets, you were exposed to his eyes and that meant his exorcist ladies were able to see you as well. and while the first man himself would not act on the sight of you, would let you get away, he knew his ladies would not. Not when neither of them knew how special you were to him.
He grabbed you by the collar of your shirt as he leaned down in order to keep his voice quiet as he hissed, “The fuck are you doing here, bitch? We had a fucking deal - out of sight out of mind.” You tried to pull away from his grip and thought that if no one would see you two together you could continue your way and make it to your safezone in no time without being seen by one of the flying killers. But Adam was not backing down, not loosening his grip on you, not paying attention to Lute who knew exactly where her boss was and who he had targeted when he had left her in the air without a word. “I’m fucking trying, idiot, let me the fuck go before one of your cunts sees us together,” you barked back and finally ripped yourself free from his tight grip, you stumbled a few steps backwards until your back hit the brickwall of the building behind you. “They fucking won’t, I-” the sound of wings flapping came closer and Adam was interrupted by no other than his Lieutenant, “Sir, may I ask what’s taking you so long?”
The brunette froze right there and then, unable to look at something else than you and when the panic that his body felt was starting to reflect in his eyes as well, you were certain there was no way out for you. If Adam would refuse to finish you off, he would make himself very suspicious - you were also convinced that if your angelic lover would refuse to kill you, Lute would do it for him, fuck, she would probably think she would do him a favor by doing so. “Fuck off, this is my deal,” the voice that usually dripped of cockiness and confidence was now shaking, threatening to break. Lute was not having it at all though, she stepped up closer and closer until she was standing right next to Adam. Adam, who had you cornered, Adam who could have easily killed you by now. “Lute,” his voice regained some of the strength and authority that it used to have, “Fuck off and slaughter some of those demon cunts, I’ll handle this one.” But she did not listen to his words, not when you looked so frightened, not when watching you die by the hand of Adam was a thought that amused her as much as it did.
You looked up at Adam, fear was written all over your face, you seeked for help in his eyes, for a plan that would spare you from getting murdered by your loved one, but the first man avoided your eyes as he used his angelic magic to make the battle ax he loved so much appear in his hands. The grin on Lute’s mask was devilish, she was enjoying this on every level even though she had no idea of who you were and how deeply Adam cared about you. In her eyes you were a sinner just like the others, a creature so filthy that he did not deserve to spend eternity anywhere. Not in hell and especially not in heaven. So when Adam raised his ax over his head, he allowed his eyes to meet yours for a tiny moment, he could not bear to look in your eyes for longer, not when fear and betrayal was reflecting in them so vividly. “Adam, please,” you whispered, it was barely audible and you were sure Lute hadn't even heard the words - and if she did, she had made no comment about it. But before the first man could respond or spare you from the fear you were feeling, Lute shoved him aside and impaled you with her spear, right through the middle of your chest where your heart would be located.
Adam wanted to scream, he wanted to cry, he wanted to hurt Lute for hurting you. He wanted to do so, so many things, saving your afterlife was one of them, but those things he wanted to do would expose him, they would expose you. So he turned around without giving you another look as Lute sliced your throat with the sharp edge of her spear. His heart throbbed in his chest painfully heavy and he wanted to wrap you in his wings and protect you from the damage, from the pain and the fear. But instead of acting on his feelings, he pushed himself off the ground and left your corpse behind. The first man went back to heaven immediately, the exorcists however continued their task.

also it really is shit how several popular bloggers were like. Horribly bigoted towards ace people when it was cool, but once it stopped being trendy they 1) deleted those posts so receipts couldn't be pulled 2) maybe put up claimed "redactions" or said "omg its been years if you really wanna know wether i still hate those people dm me" but never apologized for their behavior lmao. I don't think any of the people who did that actually changed, I just think they know it's not such an acceptable/fun target to bully anymore. It's really sick how that type of bullying was encouraged for years and how few people repented for their behavior.
#cipher talk#H*stlerose and lgbt*nis in particular come to mind#x***guiw*ng too tbh#They did a weird heel turn of being normal about ace people to insinuating most ace people are homophobic and self centered#And that believing a society which strictly controls your sex life doesn't like you not having sex and may punish you is a 'white thing'#As though the pressures around sex are not MORE strongly felt by PoC#I don't wanna say 'imagine if there was a mass movement of people who said they hated gay men and homophobia wasn't real and they never#Apologized or faced consequences' bc I know that exists. It's on Twitter and it's why I'm cagey around how people on tumblr say f*g#(I do mean like other lgbtq people tbc)#But like it's ridiculously fucked up that it happened. That people allowed it. That most people have forgotten about it either bc#They were targeted or bc they did the targeting#Remember when a real human being who had recently come out as ace was murdered for rejecting a man and people turned her into a fucking#Discourse topic? And posted decapitation photos claiming they were of her in tags about ace people/spread rumors about that?#I do. I fucking do.#Remember all the discussions about how 'denying your partner sex' was abuse? How ace people were p*dos for forcing discussions of sexuality#Onto kids? How wanting non alcoholic non sex forward spaces- something ND people and addicts also discussed- became a fucking crime?#Because ace people also thought it was cool?#Like g-d I know this was painful and I'm not saying we should do discourse again but forgetting all that isn't helpful either

so in Rebel Robin, though it’s focused on Robin and acknowledges the weird things that happen in Hawkins (will and barb’s disappearances, respectively), the author, A.R. Capetta, does a really good job of building Hawkins. and by building Hawkins, i mean they make it very clear that it could’ve been Robin.
in chapter fifteen of the book, November 6th, 1983, Robin is at her friend Milton’s house. They’re hanging out, watching MTV, eating dinner, etc. Robin has to go home at some point, and her only mode of transportation is a bike. Here is the scene where she bikes home.
“...There’s a rustle in the undergrowth at the side of the road. I try to ignore it. I do whatever I can to keep the strange skittering sound from sending nervous flicks of fear across my skin. I ride faster, my wheels now blazing a straight arrow down the road. I hum a little bit of the first song I can find in my head, “Hungry Like the Wolf,” but the rustle seems to get louder in response. I shout the lyrics at the top of my lungs.” (pg 120.) “Headlights pierce the night behind me, and the rustling goes quiet as a car passes. Right when I let myself believe it’s gone, it comes back. Louder. Closer. There’s another sound beneath it, soft and pulsing. Something like blood rushing through a heart or breath dragged up a windpipe. I pull onto my street and by the time I drop my bike in the driveway, I'm running scared and I don't care who knows it. I sprint to the door--thank God it's unlocked--slam it shut, twist the lock behind me, and push my back against the solid wood." (pg. 121.) "...I pick it up, hoping for a voice. Any voice. I hear a second of hard breathing and I think that whatever just happened to me is happening to someone else in Hawkins." (pg. 121-122.)
After this, the power goes out, starting with the Byers' house (as we've seen in the show), and then Robin's goes out fairly quickly after her experience (which leads me to believe that she doesn't live that far from Will. Especially since it seems like the Demogorgon was trailing after her, too.) You could replace Robin in some of these scenes with Will, and it would read almost exactly the same as Will's disappearance. It got me thinking, though, and there are two ways that this train of thought has taken me, and now you all have to hear about it.
The first train of thought is this: What if Robin had been taken instead of Will? What would that look like? Who would search for her? she's not friends with Steve or Nancy or Jonathan at this point. (in fact, she actively resents two of these people.) Besides Milton and maybe Kate, I doubt her friends would've searched for her. Dash is a mix of Tommy H and season 1 Steve, and his control over Kate is reminiscent of Steve and Nancy. (which is the point, i know.) but in this case, Barb still would've disappeared, meaning that Nancy still had to search for Barb and fight some Demogorgons. I doubt her parents would've done too much, as she states that they "don't believe in worrying." Not only that, but her parents have admitted to her that she was an accident, "My parents had me by accident (nobody gets pregnant in a VW van on purpose)..." (pg. 40.) and she's described by her parents as "not a hard child to raise" and through several scenes in the book Robin indicates that she's practically raised herself, her parents are nothing short of neglectful, only parenting when they absolutely have to. But this question haunts me because it's one that changes the trajectory of the whole show. because if this is the case, does Nancy still find Jonathan? do they really go fight the Demogorgon together? do they go searching for Barb and then find Eleven? what then of Robin? Do they go in search of Barb, only to find a dead Barb and a barely alive Robin? and what about Hopper and Joyce? Furthermore, what would happen in a season 2 situation with the Mind Flayer? Who would be there to notice if she was acting differently--possessed by the Mind Flayer? certainly not her parents.
what this train of thought proves to me is that, at least, in the first two seasons, could not progress without a character like Joyce because her worry and love for her son drive her to the actions that put this plot in motion. If Joyce had acted anything like Robin's parents, the story would have fallen apart.
The second train of thought (and a much more fun train one) is this: What if the Demogorgon got both Will and Robin? They both disappear into the Upside Down, trying to survive. I figure that Robin would do what she can to protect both of them, considering that when she first meets Will, the first thing she wants to do is to comfort him and tell him that life gets better, but the second thing she wishes she could do is to run away from Hawkins. So now Hawkins has three missing kids; Will, Robin, and Barb. I imagine that much of the season would be the same. I would also imagine that Will and Robin traversing the Upside Down would've been a great dynamic to see. Perhaps it's Robin who's trying to contact Joyce through the phone or figures out that the lights can send messages through the Upside Down--prompting Will to send his messages to Joyce. When Eleven has to find them in the sensory deprivation, she finds them and tells Joyce and Hopper that there's someone there with Will, hiding the both of them from the Demogorgon. When Joyce and Hopper finally find Will, they find Robin there too, barely alive but Hopper grabs her as well and they make it out. I would assume that Joyce would thank Robin profusely for keeping an eye on Will and that Robin would practically be adopted by Joyce.
I'd also like to think season 2 would've been wayyy different. The Mind Flayer takes one of them or the other (or both) and opens a whole new world of possibilities.
Sorry, this post got out of hand; I was skimming Rebel Robin and didn't notice this until I skimmed it. Anyways, feel free to add to this post, I came across this in the book and knew i had to talk about it lol!

@raventhekittycat
hi okay so I've been mulling this one over for the past day or two and I think I have the answer. not to be using hamburger to explain anything to an american but you're my detco mutual so I'm going to try and explain it in detco terms
There's a post going around recently about how if you've read detco and only detco, the first time hakuba shows up you're going to be totally flummoxed, because damn this guy is clearly important, he gets to be even cooler than Shinichi, he's got a half-page shot of him (in such a panel-dense series such as Detective Conan, no less!!) and he's got a fucking hawk. he's CLEARLY important. everything about the narrative is indicating that you need to PAY ATTENTION to hakuba and that he's the coolest guy and he's important!!!! and then he dies in the case lol (not for real. but still.)!! and you're like huh??? what was that. why did aoyama do that.
But with the context of magic kaito this totally makes sense. He's a beloved character that people have been waiting decades to see again. Of course Aoyama is going to hype him up!! It's his big moment after years of being locked in the backrooms!!!
Anyways reading birdmen for me was kind of like that. The author's previous series, Kekkaishi, was pretty one-dimensional at the beginning, and even after the main plot started picking up at around volume 6, it still felt quite understandable. I knew what she was trying to get at, and the spectacular job she did with the anthropocene and climate change metaphor towards the end of that series really made me interested in the rest of her works. That and the way she writes familial relationships is absolutely DEVASTATING. (I mean this with the highest of praise)
But when I read BIRDMEN for the first time, I was probably in... middle school, maybe? And I read it, sure, but I didn't get it. I could see what was literally happening on the page but the narrative choices were absolutely baffling at times. Why skip over the entire part of the plot where they figure out who the birdman that saved them was? She blatantly doesn't care about that. What does she care about then?? I knew I didn't get it, I knew there were parts of it that were important and I couldn't figure out why and THAT'S how it dug its pretty little claws into me. Even after I finished catching up it nagged at me a little bit, not often at all, but enough that every once in a while I go, huh, right, that was a thing, let me go read it again.
For the record this type of story haunting has happened to me twice. First time was the Heart of Thomas, second time was BIRDMEN. I think the thing is that these are both stories which are not what other people say they are and I think I came into both of these stories with a misconception, trying to look too hard for things that weren't important and therefore missing the things that were.
Because sure, BIRDMEN is about mental illness. Yeah, it's about an evil scientific organization growing mutants in a lab. Yeah, it's about what it means to leave your humanity behind. That's all technically correct, on a surface level, and the fandom at large likely agrees with these takes for the most part, but in my opinion none of that really delves into what the thematic messaging of the story is about.
There are cryptic conversations about authority and human extinction and peculiar outfit and ability choices. You can tell these choices weren't made to serve the purpose of "writing exciting shonen manga" because that was what she did for the most part in Kekkaishi and you can tell she wasn't putting her whole pussy into doing that here. So what was she doing? What's like. All of this. Waves my hands at this.
The short answer is that it's really about the interplay between capitalism (represented by humanity) and communism (represented by birdmen), and explores the role institutional white supremacy (EDEN) plays in enforcing capitalism. It is ALSO about queer liberation and the importance of community, but hey, that double-stacks conveniently with the communism metaphor.
But also take this opinion of mine with a grain of salt. As far as I know I'm the only one who really truly deeply believes that it is not only AN interpretation of the work, but one that was fully intended by the author.
So basically, I like it, because I think it says something true and beautiful that I also believe in, even if I didn't have the words for it the first time I read it. But I don't really think that's what people really look for in a media recommendation.
Do I like it? Yes, I love it. Will I recommend it to others? Yeah, sure. But do I think it's deeply flawed? Yeah, absolutely. It's flawed in the same ways as The Witch from Mercury— a rushed ending, too many threads that were opened and never tied together. The pacing and characterization is perfect in the beginning, and too rushed at the end. There are prerequisites you basically HAVE to read in order to understand the story (tempest for G-Witch and the communist manifesto for birdmen). I think a truly good story wouldn't have any of these things so if people don't like it I never blame them.
It's my personal experiences that make birdmen so profound to me. If you are not queer I just don't think Eishi coming out as a birdman to his mom will hit the same, just as an example. Sorry that I wasn't the kid you wanted me to be. I know you love me and you just want the best for me and that's why you're so controlling, because you think I can be saved by conforming to societal expectations. But I can't live like that. I can't be like that. And that's why I must go. etc.
Aesthetically I do love birdmen a lot. If I had to describe it in a few words it would probably be "chilling", "beautiful", and "powerful", which nicely coincides with the type of things I personally like to draw. It's also silly to a small degree but it's so serious and I know Tanabe can be way way way funnier (read kekkaishi for this. kekkaishi and hanazakari no kimitachi he were foundational to my sense of sequential art humor) so that's not really the standout trait of this series.
I can't let it go because I'm chewing this series like a bone. And it's taking me years but I am getting that sweet sweet marrow. By god. We are on year 3 of this shit and I am GOING to understand this series. and I'm going to make 3 video essays about it
#just thinking thoughts...#stray bird thoughts#so it's like... I don't like it because birdmen is good#I think I like it because I am a certain type of person and the author was trying to say something specifically to the type of person I am#OH#I'M THE TARGETED AUDIENCE THATS WHY I LIKE IT.#YEAH THATS REALLY IT!!!#A long time ago I said that birdmen wasn't written for the people who read it at the time it serialized.#it was written for the people they would become.#and I stand by that 100%#if it really stays with you there is going to be a reason even if you can't articulate it yet#and it may APPEAR sloppy to someone who doesn't see the queer or communist metaphor#like 'what is she doing what is she saying here she's not saying anything meaningful and emphasizing the wrong things'#but that sort of presumes she is gunning to make 'the best shonen manga ever'#which she clearly isn't.#I remember when I was reading fma with a bunch of my classmates and I'd lend them a volume or two every day#and a piece of feedback I received that has stuck with me was 'volume 15 was so boring'#(that was the volume recounting the ishval civil war. it was boring because we were middle schoolers and didn't REALLY get it.)#and like. I think to people who are looking for something like kks. the whole thing is going to feel like fma volume 15#like WHAT is she going on about? ? ?#like witch hat and dunmesh I think are similar types of stories but I think these two are just executed way better than bm#but because of that it is just not as compelling to me you know.#like yeah yeah it's well constructed. we all see it's well constructed.#the metaphor is so well constructed that I don't feel the need to point it out. everyone is saying it already you know#but bm is cryptic enough and just slightly missed that execution enough that I feel like I'm pulling the analysis out of a smoking wreckage#recently I've been watching mentourpilot videos about airplane accidents and like. that's exactly it.#there's nothing to say about a perfectly executed flight.#it's the ones that failed. and in particular the ones that just barely failed by a little bit. that compels people the most.#cue my de communism is failure post. bc that bm sure did fail.

I don’t know wtf y’all be talking about because I LOVE Jag downnnnnnn & don’t give af about Cory/America like??? (America ate for a week or 2 but y’all stanning her this much is??)
This finale ate for me. Like… I am so happy. Xavier, Taylor, now Jag? History in the making 3 years back to back? First black winner, first black woman winner, first Sikh winner… I’m so gagged like…
I’m so happy I became a casual fan in my 20s bc y’all live feeders being mad/miserable all the time is so??? Like, this is iconic! Jag ate them bitches right tf up. Cirie DESERVED AFP period tho like? uhhh I just KNEW Grodner loved her some C*meron ain’t no way he got literally any votes at all, makes absolutely no sense. Worst person besides Jared.
But I’ve literally been praying for Jag’s win for WEEKS, how can you all be so anti-Jag? He was SO strategic in every single decision he made AND even loyal with integrity by taking Matt all the way to F2 when he could’ve evicted him TWICE. It’s like what a better way for the season to end than those 2 as final 2, both representing their communities as first ever to play on the show. Matt saving Jag from eviction then Jag literally carrying Matt all the way to final 2 from there.
Every week in the 2nd half of the season I was very gagged at the strategy that Jag was pulling, it was NOT all only comp wins, he KNEW what to DO with the powers he won and made the smartest moves every time. He really devoured. You all sound very biased bc he wasn’t on your favorites side.
LOVE Cirie down but her saying “I’m voting for the person who was most loyal to ME” … uhh girl that is not how u vote for a winner and noooo shade but… maybe that’s why u never … won :/// it’s not supposed to be personal. I saw someone call Jag a bottom-tier winner??? In what worlddddddd?? Like idk live feeders scare me now, I’m so glad I grew out of that years ago. I love being a casual fan.

There is a very specific sort of antisemitism that is seemingly common in mental health facilities and its fucking terrifying
#the last 2 times ive been in a mental hospital it was always the most visibly jewish person who got targeted by nurses#and i happened to be the most visibly jewish person in a psychward the last time#its like. the 1st time there were more jewish people in there and the one of us who got it the worst was an older woman with bipolar disord#and like. many of us who noticed how terrible she was getting treated had to tell staff off multiple times#like wtf stop u r literally just poking her with a stick at this point trying to get her to have a meltdown so u have an excuse#to lock her away#it was so fucked#and the rest of us jews in there were like... slightly more stable enough to ignore the taunting from staff#like they'd find the smallest shit to get on our asses about or tell us we're being delusional abt things out of nowhere#like they tried to get a rise out of us specifically so they could frame us as crazy and neurotic when we get frustrated#and the last time i had the mosfortune of being the 1 of 2 jews who was visible and very unstable#i was made sick by nurses on purpose and then gaslit when i was up all night vomiting#i had to be given an injection and sedated the next day just so i would stop projectile vomiting all over my room#i had multiple seizures and they told.me i was throwing myself on the floor#they did things to make me break on purpose#and they did it to others to but#it was different w how they did it to me?#and when they didn't let me go to the main eating area bc i kept fainting/seizing they ordered me shit with pork when i have kosher diet#it was fucked and i know this is a problem#its a problem in outpatient too#i ended up homeless for like a year bc an antisemitic counselor fucked me over#vent

thought to myself "maybe there ARE things to do out here in the boring suburbs in winter since I don't have time to transit all the way to/from the city the next few days" and looked up things to do in the larger town next to mine. and number 7 on the list is just Go To Kohls, so, so much for that plan

Getting angry at how the writers Jinn favored team rwby with a whole ass cinematic exposition dump while shrugging Oz's question off with two words. She doesn't even grant him the courtesy of a hint! Would it really have been that hard for her to add some sort of clarification like "you cannot defeat her but you can guide the simple soul that can" or "should you find yourself with silver eyes, you may have a chance"?
If that Ozcarnation came before the schools' conception, it would add so much more meaning to them and throw far more shade on Oz than lying and magic birds

I'm sorry I can't watch the new trigun and I never will. it looks so ugly. the vibe is no where near the same and it takes away 90% of the charm of the original and makes it into something totally different. I feel like theyre giving it the sports anime treatment where they're banking on twinkification selling lots. like a yaoi head trap.

yes there are more and more childrens works nowadays that do talk about the moral implications of putting children in dangerous situations but it’s usually like. really clear if that’s what the work wants to talk about. otherwise children’s media have child protagonists get up to funky adventures and save the world because it’s children’s media. targeted towards children. who have rich internal lives outside of their interactions with adults. who want to see people like themselves be the hero of a story same as adults do.
like as a fan of childrens shows myself im certainly not going to scoff at adults who like children’s shows bc some of them are genuinely good but. if youre not part of the target audience then it’s expected that you go into children’s media with some suspension of disbelief? like no a plucky 12 year old irl probably can’t fight god no matter how much they love their friends and if a creepy old man beams out of the sky to tell them to then you should probably call the police. but if the show is positing the plucky 12 year old as the protag and the creepy old man as their mentor then just. go with it?
there is media that shows how a child protagonists’s adventures could be traumatizing and how the adults around the protag have failed them by letting them go on an adventure in the first place. that kind of story can resonate with kids too. but your takeaway from that kind of story should be “sometimes adults put kids in unfair situations and this is a fantastical representation of an irl situation.” your takaway shouldn’t be “the adults in this story suck for letting a 10 year old fight a dragon therefore every single story where a 10 year old fights a dragon should also talk about why all the adults involved suck and if they don’t then it’s a bad story” like. the dragon is not the point here!
frankly if you look at children’s media and cannot bring yourself to do the one bit of suspension of disbelief needed to keep the story going then. what are you doing here? if you want to explore how adults put children in dangerous situations and use an adventure style story as a backdrop then there are many works, both for children and adults, that explore this. but just because a piece of children’s media has the same vibes as another piece that explores something doesn’t make the first piece bad if it doesn’t explore it.
what you want is just a different story at that point. possibly one targeted at older audiences. or you’re just trying to be edgy. either way if you’re complaining about something like that then you need to understand that there are some stories that you’ll only be satisfied with if you rewrite the entire plot itself. at that point just reread/rewatch the thing you actually like instead of rewriting the whole book/show/movie to be a clone of it.
