I always find it funny when Kaer Morhen witchers call each other wolf. It's like calling your sibling by your shared last name.

I find it very disheartening to see articles coming out from Forbes and other outlets not only criticizing The Witcher but calling for its cancellation because of season 3. Season 3 has been not only the strongest season, but it’s also been the most book-accurate season to date. The writers have seemingly learned their lesson from season 2 but instead of being rewarded for it, they are being punished.
And these calls for cancellation are making me raise my eyebrows because the articles have been quoting the video games AND consistently mentioning that Henry is leaving the show therefore the show isn’t worth it anymore. The direct criticisms I have seen laid out are criticisms of actual book events (a Ciri-centered episode in the Korath desert, Geralt getting laid to waste by Vilgefortz, etc.)
Season 3 has also been review bombed, with episode 3x07 having the WORST RATINGS of ALL the Witcher episodes. Episode 7 is based entirely on a chapter in Time of Contempt and is the first episode to feature only Ciri and focus on her. The show runners have recently released a statement saying that Ciri is the main character, not Geralt nor Yennefer, and it sparked an outrage so bad that people review bombed Ciri’s episode. Which by the way, was the best episode of the season and my favorite episode since 1x01!
I feel very angry about the reaction to TWN because it is incredibly disengenuous and directly hateful against Freya/Ciri. The show is not an adaption of the video games. Geralt IS the main/most important character of the games, but not of the book series. Ciri is. This show was never about Henry and to think otherwise just proves a majority of the haters were only ever here FOR Henry, only having known about The Witcher from the games, and never actually cared about Andrzej’s story like they are pretending to now.
I hope my statement was eloquent and made sense. 😅

Not sure if I can fully articulate my thoughts about Jaskier’s growth as an artist throughout the seasons of The Witcher but I'm going to give it a go.
Because when we meet him in season 1 , he's more or less just starting out. He's fresh from Oxenfurt and determined to make a name for himself on the continent. The trouble is, he's got nothing to draw on. He's still young so his experience is negligible. He performs songs about monsters and creatures with little accuracy or meaning, and we meet him being jeered and pelted with food.
Meeting Geralt gives him a new inspiration for original songs, although he's not truthful, particularly in Toss a Coin. As Geralt said, that's not what happened, and Jaskier responds with respect doesn't make history. He's still too young and too inexperienced to realise what impact his songs can have, and he's solely determined to improve the reputations of Witchers along with his own reputation.
The two other songs in season 1 are Fishmongers Daughter, which I'm not going to discuss in any detail, and Her Sweet Kiss. Now one cane argue that the latter is heavily drawn from personal emotion and feeling, but the end result is a fairly normal ballad style of song with poetry as lyrics and vivid imagery and metaphors. It's a start, but Jaskier still has a long way to go.
Then we get to season 2, where we find Jaskier in the early stages of recognition. We see him performing in a packed bar, with accompaniment, and the crowd are lapping it up. It helps that the song he's singing comes, as per his own words, from the heart. Burn Butcher, Burn is 100% emotion, 100% authentic, and gone is the poetry. The lyrics are raw and passionate.
Despite this, we're led to believe that he found his fame with The Golden One. In contrast with BBB, this song lacks any emotional punch. It's purely a story or anecdote set to music. A fun little ditty, but unless you can suspend your disbelief, if open to criticism. As happens when attempting to smuggle the Elves onto the ship.
Now, we know that at this point, Jaskier has done and seen and experienced far more things than he had in season 1, and this has left an impact on him. He has matured and developed his sense of empathy and his kindness so much more than the immature travelling bard showed in Posada, thanks tp witnessing the violence and persecution of the elves, while also dealing with his own broken heart. Yet he's still clinging on to his want and desire to be respected and applauded for his skill and talent in writing and singing songs, so we see that he does not take criticism well.
More happens in season 2 to shape and form him, Rience's torture for one, the massacre at Kaer Morhen, his friendship with Yennefer and his mending (such as it is) of his friendship with Geralt along with the continuing politics all across the continent.
I do have a soft spot for Whoreson Prison Blues. The first two verses are beautiful, followed by a very crude, very catchy chorus. I can't imagine he would include it in future sets, but it's so personal to him in that moment that I love it.
Little wonder that by Season Three, we are met with yet more changes in our bard. His words to Radovid stating that he doesn't 'do pretty' suggest to me that he has consciously decided to move away from filling his songs with poetry and imagery and is focused more on honesty and truth. Extraordinary Things which immediately follows is a perfect demonstration of Jaskier singing openly and from the heart.
But what I wanted to get to in this long winded post, is that this is the season we finally see the Emotional Impact Jaskier's songs have on other people. No criticisms, no jokes, just the power of his music.
Whatever your opinion on Radovid and his motivations, Extraordinary Things affected him. You can see this in his reaction as he hears it for the first time, and he so clearly can't get it out of his head after hearing it only one time, that he goes above and beyond to learn it.
Next is Ciri, and we see Jaskier singing a lullaby (which he may or may not have written himself, jury's out on that) to her. Later, in the desert, she sings the lullaby back to herself, drawing strength and courage from it. This power has been given by Jaskier through his singing, making her feel safe and loved in a vulnerable moment.
Finally, Eternal Flowers, which I'll say here, is the best I've ever heard Joey sing, both on the album version and in the live performance on the show. He has his lute, but he lays it down like laying down a weapon. It's just him, stripped bare, open, vulnerable, honest, true. This is not his song, but he feels the emotion and the message as thought it was. His empathy is shining. It moves him to tears, but not only him, the Dryads also feel the emotion he is channelling, and it moves them to tears.
I don't have much of a conclusion to this ramble, but TL;DR, Jaskier’s songwriting and art has evolved over the three seasons and his bardic power is a might force to be reckoned with. He will be remembered long after Valdo for his honesty and beauty.
Not pretty. Real.

Pairing: Jaskier x Reader (Ft. Geralt)
Warnings: Violence, language.
Inspiration: Season 2
Summary: Imprisoned and alone you find yourself bonding with your cell mate only to realise that this wasn’t a mere stranger.
It wasn’t exactly how you planned the day to go but there weren’t any regrets. Being beaten and thrown into a cell was a common occurrence recently, in fact you still had bruising from the last entanglement with the knighted patrols.
The third day had nearly passed and a guard tossed a small bowl of water into the cell which spilled onto the floor. He jeered through the barred doors and then turned away when he heard a commotion. To you, it sounded like two guards struggling to detain another unfortunate individual.
“Well, well. Looks like you have a friend.” The duty guard chuckled and then disappeared from sight to open the cell door on the opposite side of the brick wall. There was a harsh shove and somebody hitting their knees on the floor.
“Maybe this will make you think twice about helping the elf-bastards.” A second guard laughed.
The cell doors slammed and you heard the keys jangle as the lock was fastened. Still cackling, all three sounded like they were jesters and decided to walk out and celebrate their win privately. This worked in your favour allowing you to plan an escape until you heard a small mumble through the crack in the wall.
“Reminder to self, file a complaint for these hideous cells. Oh, great - an audience of rats.” The voice sighed.
You didn’t know why but the stranger made you smile. “The rats are pretty decent company.”
“That’s funny. I had a friend who would have said something like that. They were a real badass. We used to travel with this broody, moody, muscled fellow who liked to act complicated.”
Hold on. Now that you listened to the voice more carefully, it began to match a face that you hadn’t seen in months.
“Jaskier?”
“…Yes?” The bard replied. “Who’s asking?”
“Y/n - you wonderful singing fool!”
“And how do I know that you’re who you say you are and not some trick by the guards to lure out information?”
You rolled your eyes but commended that he was being more aware of people in strange lands. The bard used to be far too trusting.
“Julian Alfred Pankratz, Viscount of Lettenhove. Original composer of Toss A Coin To Your Witcher. You have a tendency to woo married women - even tried your luck with me too. You tried to kiss me after getting drunk in Cintra and then again when we were dealing with that werewolf-“
“Okay, you’ve made your point. I can’t believe you’re here. What are the chances?” Jaskier wondered aloud. “What have they got you in here for?”
You paused for a silent second and stared at the metal cuffs around your wrists. It was probably best not to get into detail about what you had done to wind up on the hate radar of this town.
“Better question, what are you in for?“ You deflected.
Thankfully, Jaskier didn’t hesitate to answer and if he was curious, he chose not to follow up on it. He let out a long sigh and you could imagine the look on his face.
“I helped a wanted criminal escape.”
You laughed at the idea of the humble bard being involved in something so prickly. Jaskier didn’t appreciate the reaction and there was a scoff. “It’s true! I’m very close with the Sandpiper.”
The Sandpiper was a name not loudly spoken, so you figured that he wasn’t telling tall tales.
“Alright, I believe you. You’ve been wandering very interesting circles. The Bard and the Piper - you must tell me of the stories one day.” You smiled and rest your head against the stone wall.
Your stomach began to rumble just as the main doors swung open and two guards walked in. You heard a metal tray clattering and recognised that it was the final meal of the day. When the guard approached your cell, you watched as he entered and carelessly tossed the tray down. You had refused to eat anything that was given in fear that it had been poisoned by one of the many people you had pissed off.
You could hear Jaskier trying to salvage what hadn’t touched the floor and was about to tell the guard to jump off a cliff when a round ball of stale bread flew and hit you in the face quite harshly. It rolled off your lap and settled on some hay. You turned to the guard and glared daggers.
“Eat that or get a taste of my blade.” He threatened.
With a huff, you chose to ignore the guards presence all together. It wasn’t long before he left and you took up the measly portion that was more dirt than bread and tore off a piece.
“This isn’t so bad.” Jaskier commented. “Could use some seasoning.”
You stared at what you were eating and wondered if it was hard enough to concuss the guard on duty…
“So how’s the broody fellow?” Jaskier wondered.
At first, you frowned but then remembered who he was referring to. The Witcher who took a lot of patience.
“I don’t know. We parted ways not long after you left. He was being increasingly difficult so I told him as much.”
“How did he take that?” Jaskier wondered, knowing exactly how the man could behave.
You exhaled. “He told me to ‘fuck off’ and left me in a swamp.”
The memory of that day was leaving a bitter taste in your mouth…or maybe it was the bread. Either way, you didn’t want to clutter your mind with something useless.
Jaskier seemed to have silently agreed.
“Well, screw Geralt. We don’t need him.” He said and began tapping on some spoons.
There was a loud clang against the cell bars as the guard slammed his palm across it to get the attention of them both.
“Will you both shut up? You sound like fucking spurned lovers.”
Jaskier laughed at the thought and you were glad that he was fated to be your cell partner. As the guard piped down, the rats scurried over to the bards cell where the spoons clanged a little louder and with a bit more rhythm until Jaskier had a catchy tune.
“It's been a long time travellin'
On roads that lead to nowhere
With hopes and dreams that always rot…” he began to sing softly, pausing every so often to form the artful words.
You waited for the next bit but he seemed to have a bit of a block. Without thinking, you leaned back and looked at your surroundings.
“Sometimes it takes a prison cell to remember how shitty the world is.”
“Oh, that’s perfect!” Jaskier told you and began tapping again.
“Sometimes it takes a prison cell,
The tricks and tales, the traitors' tell,
To help you see that freedom is all you've got.
So lock me up and sock me up,
And throw away the key.
Go fuck yourself, you whoreson.
'Cause you're through fuckin' with me.”
Jaskier was a bard of many talents and you had missed him all because of a falling out with a mutual friend. It must have been the exhaustion of being locked up that you started singing along to the song just to keep occupied.
“Go fuck yourself, you whoreson! Cause you’re through fuckin’ with me.”
A few more rehearsals and you and Jaskier had the duty guards on edge each time you switched shifts. They might be brutes but you couldn’t help but credit their creativity with the death threats.
Another day passed, you were still locked up, Jaskier was now doing solo renditions for the rats, and the bread hadn’t improved in taste or quality. You began to think of a way out of the cell and devised the start of a plan that included stealing the keys with Jaskier’s help. It wouldn’t be easy but if you got your hands on a sword, the guards would be unmatched in skill.
Then, there was an unexpected commotion in the hallway during Jaskier’s song.
“Fucking hell. You know what? We’re trying to rehearse in here.”
You heard the bard complain and then apologise to the rats for the interruption. “Good sir. You would not know talent if I shoved it up your … Geralt.”
You scoffed to yourself and wondered if Jaskier had finally gone mad. “I thought we agreed never to mention that broody grouch ever again?” You called out.
There was silence to the question and some soft talking that you couldn’t quite understand but Jaskier’s voice rose for a second. Then there was a shuffle of feet and you were drawn to your own cell door where a familiar man with white hair and broad shoulders showed his face.
Geralt unlocked you door and walked in. He bent down and worked his Witcher magic to free you of the cuffs.
“I’d say I’m shocked to find you here - but I’m not.” He said, helping his friend up.
You rubbed your wrists and dusted your pants. You looked at the man and shrugged. “You know how it is - chaos doesn’t just come in the form of magic.”
Geralt smiled and you couldn’t help but notice that something was a little different about him - like he was content, almost happy.
“I have no right to ask this of you but I could use your help.” He requested.
You could very easily have told him to shove off and be rid of the man for the rest of your life but Geralt was a friend through so many difficult quests. Plus it wouldn’t hurt charge him the fee of one apology.
“Just to be clear, I’m pissed at you for about a million things but I can’t resist a call for help.” You told him honestly and raised a finger. “One condition, Jaskier comes along.”
As if on cue, the bard walked in. “Say no more, I have no plans to leave. Oh…” his eyes travelled to the locks and chains laying on the floor. “Why the fuck were you chained up?”
Clearing your throat, you pointed to the exit. “Story for the road?”

"We just want book accuracy!"
It's funny, when you think about what matters to The Witcher "We just want it to stay faithful to the books" crowd.
Season 1 of The Witcher had jumps in time and messed with the ages of Geralt and Yennefer. Both don't age but their ages are different in the books.
Season 1 of The Witcher made Jaskier brown haired (He's actually blond in the novels).
Season 1 of the Witcher changed which parent Yennefer's elfish bloodline came from.
Jaskier wrote songs that do not exist in the books.
Jaskier's bard cap with feather doesn't exist in The Witcher Netflix series.
__________________
In season 2 of The Witcher Yennefer was tempted by a Baba Yaga inspired character (who didn't even exist in the books) to sacrifice Ciri to get her powers back. The entire scenario never happened in the books.
Season 2 of The Witcher features Jaskier writing a breakup song about Geralt that doesn't exist in the books.
Season 2 of The Witcher has Jaskier take on a persona known as The Sandpiper to smuggle people safely away from those that mean them harm. His Sandpiper persona doesn't even exist in the books.
Also in Season 2 of The Witcher one of Geralt's friends, a fellow Witcher, is portrayed with a very different personality from what he had in the books and gets killed off. This also never happened in the books.
Even the way the Beauty and the Beast-esque story played out changed Geralt's reaction to everything and put Ciri there when she wasn't there in the original version.
_______________
But Jaskier gets revealed as bisexual and has an infatuation with someone who gets revealed as evil and that evil character is now decades older than he was in the books and suddenly there's a pearl clutch "But the source material!" and "But he was straight in the books! This MUST be the reason Henry Cavill left!"
Yeah, because I'm Suuuure the reason Henry Cavill quit a TV series that already heavily deviated from the books its based on, was because his sidekick character was revealed as being bisexual. Because THAT is what was most important to him! Riiiiight.
You know, I'm highly suspicious of the notion that you just want book accuracy...

Blossoming in Winter: Chapter 2
@witchlingsandwyverns - Chapter 2 is here for you! Thank you for your patience while I wrestle with my story. I'm quite enjoying it, but it has some very particular thoughts about the way it is told and I've been editing a fair amount! Chapter 2 was also getting quite lengthy, so I've split it up a bit and this fic is now 5 whole chapters.
Summary: An AU that takes place at the end of the first war with Hybern against the human-faerie alliance. In this story, Tamlin is young but of age, and took up arms against his own father and brothers, leading a rebellious Spring army on the side of the human-fairie alliance. Feyre, a fae of spring without any wealth or illustrious parentage, joined the rebellious army as a way to support her family, and quickly moved up the ranks into Tamlin’s archery guard.
As the war starts to turn in favor of the land of Prythian and those that would defend and release the humans from faerie rule, High Lord Thesan of the Dawn Court opens up his palace and access to his healers for the High Lords, their families, and those with wounds that cannot be cured by normal means.
Inspired by the story of Faramir and Eowyn in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.

Chapter 2: Maiden, Young and Sad
Rhysand offers a gift and a bargain. Feyre learns more about the Prince's role in the war, and entertains an unexpected visitor.
All the thanks to @temperedink, @witch-and-her-witcher and @wilde-knight for the beta read and encouragement! And thank you to @acotargiftexchange and all the organizers for this amazing event.
I'm also going to repost my playlist as I've been listening to it incessantly as I write!
Chapter snippet below the cut!
This night, Feyre was determined to ignore the Prince as his loud steps and the clip of his cane alerted her to his approaching presence. Her posture stiffened on the balcony and she fixed her eyes to the sun-bled horizon once again.
But a second, softer set of footsteps followed after him, and curiosity had always been one of her vices.
When Feyre turned she saw his wings first, those dark harbingers of nightmares casting shadows against the flickering torches along the balcony, now awkwardly tied and stretched open into positions for healing. And behind the bandaged male, a fae wreathed in dark smoke, her slender hands holding a folded cloak colored the deep inky blue of a summer sky just after sunset, covered in tiny gems of starlight.
The wraith approached and wrapped the cloak around Feyre’s shoulders, smiling lightly before she faded back into shadow.
“What is this?” Feyre asked, feeling the fine shimmering fabric beneath her fingers.
“It’s my mother’s,” Rhysand answered, taking her measure in it.
She looked at him and felt her heartbeat quicken under that keen gaze. She was annoyed at her impulsive reaction to his eyes that seemed to sparkle with stars, to the sight of his fine ridged nose and high cheekbones. She willed herself to look away. “Why do you have your mother’s cloak here?”
“My brothers were visiting from home and I told her I had need of it.”
“Why would you need your mother’s cloak?”
Rhysand’s face was amused, his lips twitching at the corners.
Feyre felt her face heat. “Oh.”
“You seemed to be chilled, the other night,” he said flatly, turning towards the night sky.
Feyre nodded and pulled the cloak tighter around her left side. The warmth was welcome but her blush deepened as she considered the fine gift. Coming from Spring injured and half-dazed as she had been, it seemed no one had remembered the seasons continued outside of their endless warmth and bloom. She had come to Dawn woefully unprepared in her light army fare.
“Is it ice that affects you? Your arm.” The Prince asked casually, as though inquiring about her breakfast.
“Why?” Always with him, the question echoed in her mind.
“You seemed to react to the cold.”
Feyre lifted an eyebrow. “And?”
Rhysand turned his head to face her fully, his body remaining still as to not jostle his wings. “Fine. My spies and the gossiping nurses tell me that no one actually knows what happened to you in the Middle, or what you suffer from. You haven’t told a soul, at least not one that’s talking. Rare for war, when information is currency.” He said with an inquiring tilt of his head.
“So you want more information for your Night Court spies?”
Rhysand frowned. “I’m saying if you haven’t spoken of it yet, then doing so might bring you some comfort, and I’m happy to lend an ear. Soldier to soldier. And don’t you think you should tell the warden what hurt you? To aid in finding a cure?”
“There is no cure,” she said with certainty.
“How can you be sure?”
Feyre ground her teeth. He truly refused to leave well alone. “You said information is currency, which suggests I should put a price on my story. Hard to do if I share it willingly, soldier to soldier .”
His eyes sparked. “What would be your price, then?”
Something inside her recoiled at the thought of making bargains with silver-tongued Princes. Ones who thought they could buy information with gold. “If I tell you, they would be the last words you ever hear from me, as I’d require you to stick to your side of the healing wing for the rest of your stay.”
A low grumble came from the back of his throat. “What a terrible bargain to make on my side.” He tapped his fingers in a frantic pattern on the stone wall he leaned upon, then pulled back and slipped his hands into his pockets. “Is my company truly so offensive to you?”
Feyre scoffed. “Have you been trying to be pleasant?”
He stared at her, and she wished not for the first time that she could read his mind. “Fine. Perhaps I have been somewhat obnoxious.” His hands were out again, absently tracing the mortar on stone as he regarded her.  “I told you Lady Feyre, I wish for us to be friends. And haven’t I helped you, brought you gifts, shown you I have only concern for your welfare?”
“And a Lord worth knowing further would expect something in return for all this?”
“Are you always this stubborn and willful?” She answered him only with a stare. “Fine,” he returned. “You don’t trust me, believe me to be a cad and a spy. But there’s little else to do here besides wander and feel our wounds dripping, so let me be the more interesting option. If we’re speaking of costs and bargains, how about this? Walk with me, twice a day for company, and you won’t have to answer a single question you don’t wish to. I’ll promise to be on my best behavior, and to prove it I’ll offer you one thought, one wholly true thing, in exchange for the same of you.”
To Feyre’s ears it had the makings of a terrible bargain. But just as quick the thought of her salve-scented room floated through her mind, and of the long, quiet hours where she felt her skin being devoured by the cold magic on her body. And inside of her there was a small, scared part that recoiled from the thought of being alone, so close to her end. Perhaps he wasn’t so bad, if she could escape from sharing too much with him.
“Once a day,” she answered.  “And I’m not going to tell you about what happened in the forest.” He shrugged his shoulders.
“Of course. Your choice.”
“And I won’t be tricked or bargained into revealing anything about Ta - Prince Tamlin, or the Spring armies.”
“You’re certainly the picture of a loyal subject. Is Tamlin writing to you so often, sharing secrets you must protect?”
Feyre ignored his obvious bait. Her brow furrowed as she ran through the words of the bargain in her mind. “You said you would tell me one honest truth.”
He cocked his head. “Is that your condition, and then you agree?”
She nodded. And then gasped, as she felt a warm, tingling sensation snake against her wrist. Turning it towards her, she saw the dark ink of a tattoo - a simple rose with the three stars of the Night Court atop it like a crown.
Rhysand shrugged under her glare. “It’s custom in my court for bargains to be marked on the flesh.” He motioned to her with a flourish. “Ask your question.”

Okay well I watched the first episode of Blood Origin and honestly my thoughts are:
I just don't understand why people are so resistant to changes/new plotlines/some lore breaking of *recent* franchises but gobble it up when it's older. People telling an untold portion of a common tale is well established in storytelling culture. The first example that springs to mind is Lancelot, who straight up does not exist in original Authorian legend and was a FRENCH invention when the myth spread. Nowadays, most casual enjoyers of King Author stuff don't bat an eye to Lancelot's presence. Lancelot, who comes to mind, because Sapkowski writes said Lancelot to be in love with Ciri, and we're totally cool with *that* but not with changes to Sapkowski's work.
It's really telling that there's such a bigoted negative reaction to this because honestly? The black people so far have been BLACK black, darker than me, darker than even my black family sometimes. I'm enjoying seeing melanin in fantasy don't mind me. And the hair on the sisters is excellent, I'm liking the costuming, and I *really* like Eile.
The accents are kind of all over the place. Both as individual characters but also as the actors themselves. Sometimes Fjall goes from generic American accent to some form of fake Irish to ????european???? and back and it's distracting and weird. HOWEVER I do like the Irish and Welsh accents in high born kingdoms, because too often those accents are for commoners and poverty only, and this sort of turns the trope on its head.
I'm not sure how much I like the pan-Asian vibe I'm getting from some of the props and architecture. Some things look vaguely Chinese while others solidly Arabic while others a weird fusion of Indian and Korean and it's just odd to me. At first I thought it was because of clan structures but then I saw that it's just sort of everywhere. I have 0% Asian in me so I'm not really a good authority to speak on it but it's a weird vibe, a little Orientalist to my eyes. I'll freely admit that I like the aesthetic since I was raised pretty pan-African but I recognize that most continentally grouped cultures don't love that and it's mainly the black diaspora that's embraced it because we don't really have much of a choice.
I STILL feel that doing away with this short-season "but the episodes are an hour long!" nonsense would help pacing so much. Literally every time I thought the episode was going to come to an end, it's been roughly at the 20-25 min mark, which a standard TV episode would have been ANYWAY. So there's not really much point to having this be 4 hour-long episodes when it could be done better as 12-15 20 minute episodes... which would be the eqivilant of a short season while 24-32 is a more "standard" season (instead of 8 hour-long episodes). It gives you more time to flesh the characters and plotlines out while also allowing you the chance to trim some of the long-and-boring content people get tired of watching.
I really do feel bitter that the witcher tags continue to be people making racist and misogynistic memes instead of a fandom happily discussing a pretty strong first episode that introduced a billion fantasy characters of color. It really sucks that black people in fantasy is received so poorly when my inner 10 year old is happy to see people who look more like me having fun with the genre. I long for the day when I can exist in a fandom space and happily discuss my favorite black characters without having to justify their existence every 2 seconds.
Oof that CGI is pretty rough though. Which surprises me because the S2 CGI was not this rough so idk what happened here. That monster in the first episode is, uh, bad. And the background in the weird magicky place is also pretty, uh, bad.
I don't understand why the first witcher being an elf would piss Geralt off except maybe because that means Jaskier knows more about witchers than Geralt does? All of Geralt's iterations- the books, the games, the show, the comics- are pretty chill with elves as long as they're pretty chill with him. He only pursues certain elves and elf-blooded mixed race people when they pose a direct threat to him or his loved ones. Same as humans. So I don't really get that line at all unless, as said, it was more a "wow Geralt's gunna be pissed that I know this story and he doesn't"

Will Netflix greenlight a Six Of Crows Spin off?
An analysis of the current situation
1. interview with EW
Tumblr media
The showrunner of SaB being allowed to make an official statement when EW reached out to him is a good sign. It means Netflix wants to test the water and get people hyped for a potential spin off. Also EW! This shows how high the demand is for that show.
But more importantly:
Tumblr media
They wrote the whole script already two years before season 2 aired. That means Netflix has really high hopes for a potential spin off.
Netflix is really well known for renewing and cancelling shows not based on actual viewing data’s but based on calculated viewing forecasts. Meaning: Netflix commissioning a spin off two years before season 2 was aired means they predicted a really high demand for a spin off. Now our views only have to match their forecast
2. the Witcher struggling, Stranger things ending
Every streaming service has one, really high in demand fantasy show, that is appealing for a mass audience. This was first Stranger Things, but Stranger Things is ending soon. The next big hit was The Witcher. They gave it an animated spin off, a real life spin off, announced seven seasons at once etc. This was HUGE! The Witcher was their show that Netflix used to compete against other players on the market, especially The Rings of Power. But now the Witcher is struggling a lot. Recasting the main actor, blood origin being badly received by the fans, Cavill and LSH bitching at each other, the whole fighting becoming an online meme. And at this point no one knows if people really want to watch an Australian Geralt. So they need another big fantasy show. And while shadow and bone is not doing as good as the Witcher, it is still doing completely solid. For them, SaB and especially the crows are a safe harbor.
3. The promo
The promo for the second season is insane. The promo is rolled out on every social media channel, even on Netflix Gold and the MOST. Season 2 is out since one week now and they are still releasing new promo content every day. All hapa Asian cast members together, a wesper BTS tour? This is insane! Netflix wants this show to be their next big hit! They want a big fanbase, so people stick to netflix. Because soon the Witcher 3 will be released and I think Netflix is really afraid that many people will cancel their subscription after it. A Six of Crows Spin off will bind viewers to the Netflix for the next… 2/3 years and help them in a really difficult time. Because building up a new fan base that is so big like the SaB is not easy
Tumblr media
Like the crows always being put together in the promo is not a huge bait to see fans reaction towards them, come on, is super obvious
4. the new intro for season 1
Netflix making a new intro for the first season shows that Netflix is ready to invest money into the show. Not only in the new season but also in the old season. Also it was really clear that season 2 had a way bigger budget then season 2. look at the different intro cards. They are ready to invest money. And they are ready to invest even more money IF it pays off, meaning: if enough people watch season 2. and hype it up online. Because what Netflix wants is new people subscribing and everyone online taking about the show
Tumblr media
5. six of crows being listed by PW
Yeah it is only listed as „in development“ but if you think about it, this is actually a huge deal. They have been quietly developing a spin off since 2021, told no one about it, and now season 2 is released since ONE WEEK and suddenly it is listed in PW? They could have also waited the first month, to have all numbers. But nope, one week and they said: put it in there“ this means they have really high hopes for it and are really optimistic.
Tumblr media
So i would say we have a really good chance to get that show IF we keep it trending, keep up the hype and keep on streaming and recommending it to friends
So in conclusion: stream, recommend, like and tweet. Like this we will steal us a spin off

Spoilers for Invincible comic and season 2
Tumblr media
Man, they sure cut the scene in which Mark shows self awarness and human reaction, and replaced it with melodrama shit with PTSD. Which doesn't make much sense in the show as his ass got handed even before Omni-man fight by Battler Beast. Show really undermines Mark's actual character of teenager with an ego due to his powerhouse status and instead replace it with sad puppy who exists to soak up pain for entertainment of people and be nothing more than megaphone to themes. I was never a fan of Invincible, but I think it is tragic that book which mocked all superhero comic bs and melodrama is now a prime example of all tropes of TV superhero shows filled into one less than mid animated package.
Tumblr media
It's not the only scene, in the show Mark "goes serious" and threatens with his Omni-man heritage with music and close up, "subtlety" reinforcing his "dark side". When in the comic Mark casually mocks him and uses snark to out logic dude to free him. Which is pretty much who Mark is. Overpowered teenager with attitude and who use basic human logic. That's the appeal and show's Mark's exists either in ":( stop punching me I'm pathetic" or "I'm all angsty now, because we are serious show :|" when the comic shows his gradual growth into taking stuff serious (and fucking it up) way better and natural. For me, Invincible show represents people confusing sincerety with sad music and self importance. When in reality, cynicism and joking attitude can be the most sincere, in fact, it's kind of the idea with "the absence of pretence, deceit, or hypocrisy." being pretty much Invincible's appeal as satire of superhero stuff, while having some respect for it. Invincible show isn't sincere in slightest, otherwise Amber character wouldn't make 180 because of backlash and creator wouldn't say her controversial moment is "probably a mistake". Whole show just screams attempt of being Netflix melodrama during Daredevil success and using anti-Marvel status (no matter how idiotic it is) as selling point for folk who don't know better. We had same shit with Sherlock and with CDPR having a cult of simps post Witcher 3. Will it matter? Will show actually leave impact or just be dropped like other overhyped projects? I don't know, but I said my piece.

the Witcher fandom, a rant
why is it so hard for people to believe its possible for a show to come back from a bad season, if  Picard can come back after a bad season 2 why cant the Witcher?
don`t fall for the “Henry left because it wasn't like the books” rumor perpetuated mostly by alt right youtube channels who call everything they don't like “Woke”  the real reason is  likely because of contract disputes, he signed an unfair contract with Netflix signing away his likeness hence why his face couldn't be shown in his dc cameos,  and why he hasn't been legally able to do any projects outside of netflix and he understandably wanted out
if there was a schism between the people working on the show over accuracy wouldn't other people involved in the project has left as well, like the polish producer Tomasz Baginski, who is a huge fan of the novels and worked on the games
is it so ludicrous to believe that they saw the reaction to season 2 and overcorrected, its happened before with tv show were they get retooled after audience reaction
we are getting the conclusion to the stuff that was set up in season 2  that felt incomplete because it was, the political intrigue of the northern kingdoms,  Geralt/Yennifer reconciling and talking about the wish  Ciri and Yennifer bonding ( I have a whole other rant coming about how Yennifer`s actions at the end of last season were misinterpreted by most people and how she was not the one in control like it may have seemed on first watch )
why would they bother filming in the Sahara for the desert scenes or doing super complex scenes like the  Thanedd ball/ coup if they didn't care about the material and could just make a safe lower budget monster of the week style show with mass appeal
I might ad that a good chunk of the outcries from so called “fans”  over the accuracy were often done with the addition of racist, misogynistic, and (now given what we know about season three) homophobic comments aimed at the female and poc cast and crew members, if it really was about representing the source material why would they feel the need to make comments like those that have nothing to do the story or characters
im not saying you have to like this show, I have alot of problems with it myself but ever since that false headline about  Andrzej Sapkowski supposedly “ hating” the video games the Witcher fandom has had a serious problem with blindly listening click/ragebait headlines and putting words into peoples mouths,  please stop doing this so we all can have a better fandom experience

Now listen…
I have some good intuition on me 90% of the time and I don’t walk around suspecting people of things
Another thing is i have been in fandoms for 13 year. I know when something doesn’t smell right.
Last: pattern recognition
Now thats said… currently i live in the Henry Cavill fandom, mostly because I haven’t found a show worth while yet.
Been there since season 2 of the Witcher
I know how to spot an account that isn’t really a fan. The news there sound too much like someone is scripting it, how did YOU, a fan, hear about something that hasn’t been common knowledge in that fandom?
“ he asked that actress personally to be in his warhammer serie”
HOW DID YOU KNOW? Why is no one else talking about it then?
Also the elly conway=henry cavill post?
And the major tip off :
Same points repeated like you just using sentences we all know but not adding any personal opinion.
The comment section is dry but for pro-Natalia comments and ‘shitting on haters’ and the lovely marriage comments.
The behavior of the person posting, the content and the comment section is 🚩🚩🚩
Stop posing as a fan. Its demeaning
Update:
She is meeting the cast of argylle. BOY I WAS RIGHT.
Because obv, just because you post about henry and CONSTANTLY updating about the premier like its your JOB, AND the elly conway is henry cavill, with evidence… you posing. You work for them. Also idk if i said this already;
Not many comments on her page
Her reactions feel unnatural
Is the only person saying henry is elly. Which I don’t mind, would cheer him up for it, but its a dead giveaway.
Pro-natalie . Be real, where in the fandom did you see the support? The whole fandom has been dead.
I have been in the fandoms for 13 years, i know a dead one when i see it. The issue is with his alleged gf. If our hearts aren’t feeling well about something, we clock out and wait for the truth to come out. The only thing reviving this dead pigeon would him posting noting about work or natalie and being his old self. Or ditching her and going back to posting as himself.
No one is interested in an actor’s page when its only life updates, its bound to die.
There are obv some actors who post only work and occasionally a pic about their life, but IT FEEL GENUINE.
If the genuine intentions aren’t there… we will know. Also… does he know that some of us have clear-seeing? (Clairvoyance) or can read cards or have other gifts?
My gift is in relationships.. i know it won’t go well. Unless for some forsaken reason we find out the natalie wasn’t ever a bad person or even annoying but genuinely a very good person. BUT IDK… i am not the judge. But my intuition is telling me he has been corrupted and is only focusing on going higher/better with no regards to fans. He sees that his support isn’t from fans but industry. The plan a in acting of “ the fans would love me and that would get me the fame” went in flames.
Now its plan B, the people he works with. I mean come on, tom cruz and Beyoncé&jayz. The music industry is THE LAST thing you want an association with.

Timestamps for Jaskier living his best bisexual life in Season 3
Put together for @bishkebab but really for anyone who wants to enjoy a bard-centric watch or rewatch.
I've tossed in brief descriptions of what happens in each scene while trying to avoid big spoilers (though reading what happens in a later episode could spoil you for previous ones). The * marks a scene important to his romance arc with Prince Radovid.
This is actually the time given on the right-hand side of the screen/completion bar showing the remaining minutes in the episode, because that was the easiest for me to get accurately on Netflix, so smaller numbers are closer to the end of each episode.
Episode 1: Shaerrawedd
32:52 - 28:22* Meeting one love interest while mid-argument with the other one. Rolls right into a short scene with Geralt, Yen, and Ciri.
19:42- 15:16 Fight scene, Jaskier gets a few reaction shots and is even helpful; the best parts for bard-lovers happen from 16:13 on.
10:09 - 8:38* Follow-up with Radovid + another character from the earlier meeting.
Episode 2: Unbound
(Scene starts right after title card) 54:33 - 53:20 Some muppety goodness with Geralt
50:10 - 44:35 There's some plot-relevant exposition here but also Jaskier making friends with a cat (and flirting with Liz Carr's character) and otherwise offering charming reaction shots - and then sadder/scared-er emotions from 45:30 on.
35:08 -33:40* Going to Radovid for a favor, he winds up agreeing to sing for him + a roomful of fans.
24:09 - 20:38* Sings "Extraordinary Things" and has an extremely subtext-laden conversation with Radovid.
14:56 - 13:21 (*) Not Jaskier, but some of Radovid's perspective on events, and this scene has him doing his best to fulfill the favor Jaskier asked.
Episode 3: Reunion
(From beginning of episode runtime) 1:01:32 - 58:08* The Most Important Scene. Bisexuality: confirmed. Tits: out. His girlfriend Vespula: amazing.
58:07 - 53:02 This runs right from the previous scene but is rather different in tone and amount of visible cleavage. Geralt calls on Jaskier to comfort a distressed child (brief reference to the deaths of preteen girls) while they bring her to a druid for help.
38:00 - 33:25 Getting on the same page with Geralt about the conversation with Radovid's people back in Episode 1, winds up giving Geralt an idea how to help the child. Things get more distressing and perilous as this scene continues but Jaskier is helpful again!
23:15 - 20:08 No onscreen Jaskier but Geralt wraps up the druid plotline, makes plans to keep the child safe with her, and announces his destination (and Jaskier's) for the next episode: Aretuza.
Episode 4: The Invitation
44:33-40:56 Meeting Geralt (and Ciri) at the coast. They want to take a ferry to Aretuza but the ferryman's scared of a sea monster. Luckily the passenger list includes a witcher and a half, plus Jaskier. Unfortunately it also includes Jaskier's mortal enemy.
37:29 -35:50 Geralt and Ciri are on monster watch while Jaskier's in a snark battle for his life. You can watch a bit past 35:50 if you want to see Geralt and Ciri continuing their father-daughter chat.
31:35 - 27:40 The monster finally attacks, ending Jaskier's misery. He's kind of helpful in the background of the fight scene, keeping other non-combatants safe.
21:52 -18:41 Reuniting with Yennefer. She gives Jaskier the job of babysitting Ciri and the two of them do some lip-reading with poetic license at Yen and Geralt's expense.
(runs from previous scene, new location) 18:40 - 13:13* Sweet babysitting shenanigans, singing "A Little Sacrifice," and suddenly - enter Radovid. Without spoilers, I'll say that chemistry read between Joey Batey and Hugh Skinner sure proved itself. Wow.
Episode 6: Everybody Has a Plan 'Til They Get Punched In the Face
45:50 - 44:13* The morning after.
Biphobia is alive and well and as proof, that's all we get of him in this episode, though his fellow members of the Rience Hate Club will enjoy the bits around 31:00 - 30:32.
Episode 7: Out of the Fire, Into the Frying Pan
(right after title card) 52:00 - 48:15* Looking for Ciri, Geralt, and Yen, Jaskier finds Radovid instead. As a bonus for the Jaskier-cut watchers, Radovid provides him with a summary of major plot developments from Episode 6. (Biphobia is alive and well and as proof the camera omits the hand-holding around 49:28. We all know it's happening! But still!)
Yennefer gets him further up to date (and hugs him!)
The bulk of this episode is Ciri-centric. At some point I can't find the timestamp for, she sings "A Little Sacrifice" for a cute Jaskier-and-his-Pocket-Princess-bonding-moment. In terms of Joey Batey's face being onscreen, he gets to flex his muscles at acting sad and scared from around 11:41 - 11:24 in a hallucinatory scene that reaffirms his and Ciri's love for each other in the cruelest possible way.
9:54 - end of episode. Jaskier wins his way past some distrusting dryads to see Geralt, in part by singing (in Elvish!) "Enchanted Flowers." He catches Geralt up on events that have happened during the Ciri-centric midpart of this episode; unfortunately it's all bad news. Hopefully their hand-holding is comforting, though.
The credits music for this episode is Freya Allen (Ciri's actress) singing a badass dark reprise of "A Little Sacrifice."
Episode 8: The Cost of Chaos
1:03:14 - 1:00:39 (until title card) Geralt's an understandably impatient patient, but at least he has Jaskier to hold his hand again and otherwise enable him.
48:44 - 46:26 Jaskier composes some songs while Geralt continues recovering. And pledges to compose more (plus an epic poem) if Geralt gets himself killed going out to find Ciri prematurely. (The scene continues between Geralt and another character until around 44:33)
(Around 38:30 Yennefer appears to supercharge Geralt's healing, which is a helpful plot event to know if watching the Jaskier Cut)
35:30 - 33:33* No Jaskier, but Radovid's side of the romance nears its conclusion (for this season). You can stop at 33:33 if you want a happy ending, or watch past that til the scene change if you're okay with blood and want to know the rest of what's going on. 28:16 - 26:52 wraps up Radovid's plotline (for this season! I'm holding out hope!)
24:55 - 21:02 Jaskier's composing the credits song for this episode when Dara (Ciri's elf friend from Season 1, who also shows up in Season 2) says hello. Then on to making a Witcher potion. Jaskier cheerleads Geralt through his training sequence, still composing.
13:04 - 7:21 Jaskier fails to dissuade Geralt from a final fight scene of the season (sorry, Jask, Geralt's in the right on this one, they had it coming), but again proves very helpful in a non-combatant way!
Credits music is Joey Batey singing "Ride Witcher Ride"
Let me know if you'd like a rundown for Season 2 as well (it's a less rich tapestry since there's less Jaskier and the bisexuality isn't canon yet, although there are moments it's hard to read heterosexually, and wow is it fun to realize nobody expects me to do that again!)
The first 7 minutes or so of the tie-in miniseries Blood Origin also have some great moments, including Jackier being audibly not not into it when a supernatural creature mimics his face (can't blame him, it's a sexy face, amd Joey Batey is excellent at being ominous) and also canon confirmation that he has good self-esteem, which I like in my bisexuals! (He's also there for like the final 2 minutes of Blood Origin's 4th and final episode if you're a completionist, and Joey Batey sings "Song of the Seven" over the end credits, which is the song Radovid references when he first meets Jaskier.)

just finished the Witcher:blood origin and yinz better believe I'm having feelings ™ about it. did i stay up until 2.30 am just to finish the series (and make my dad mad at me for staying up that late? maybe, but that's neither here nor there), you betcha.
*spoilers ahead, but my rb-ing history doesn't help with that either, so 🤷🏻‍♂️ you've been warned*
the parallels between jaskier and geralt and eile and fjall got to me. and watching fjall get turned into a witcher made me react in ways i wasn't prepared for and made me have feelings™ about all the other witchers in the future. and then having to watch eila kill her beloved? ugh, gutted me, it did.
but I can already see all the fanfics that'll come from this and I'm excited. does this make me want to watch season 3 (and technically season 2 because i got sick the day it came out and haven't had a desire to watch it after seeing everyone's reactions from it) any more now that I've seen blood origin? not particularly, unfortunately, but I'll just have to wait and see i guess.
definitely worth it to see jaskier tho 🥰

RE: Your post. Here's my two pence as a WOC who grew up outside of western media culture and is engaging with it only now as an adult. I feel like a big part of it is
a) that there are POC in more visible and important roles. Most POC tend to get sidelined ALOT and dont tend to get enough screen time and promenence to challenge racists perception of what's 'right' according to their little self-absorbed bubble. You see this most visibly in MCU etc. With the reaction to black panther, Sam Wilson and the like. Even in a diverse film or show the main character is always white and their love interest (if not white) is always an acceptably light skinned person (colourism is A BIG problem even in non western media)
2) alot of these characters are WOC who pretty much ALWAYS get the short end of the stick and get basically a double dose of racism and misogyny. Especially if they aren't light skinned enough or suitably white looking. (Tangen but related is the way that Disney cast a half white-half Indian actress as an Arab princess even though there are so many talented middle eastern actresses for the position and the use/exploitation of actors with mixed white heritage as basically [insert race] lite [tm] which is unfair to everybody involved except for the system the profits from this whole thing). WOC are more vulnerable to harrassment, racism and criticism because we arent protected and supported the way white women facing misogyny tend to be black women especially bear the brunt of this. Companies especially wont bother to protect their POC actors look at all the star wars sequel trilogy actors who were harrased and threatened off of social media and had their characters and work ruined by white fans using shipping as an excuse for their internalised racism.
Personally I've left the fandom after season one and tend to move on from fandoms pretty quickly because I just don't have the energy to deal with all the casual racism anymore. Sorry for the long rant! I've just been bottling this up for a long time. Thank you so much for doing all you do and bringing up and challenging racism in fandom! I really appreciate it and follow you even after having left the fandom behind! Sorry if some of my explanations don't make much sense. I've tried my best to explain things in English but it isn't my first language and it's hard to verbalise these concepts without making it seem like I'm hating on people or being stupid. Much love x
First, thank you SO MUCH for sharing your thoughts. I read every word and you are right on every count.
I’ve loved fantasy since I was a kid and The Witcher was the first time I saw woc being centered in the story. And it was the first time I saw so many woc in a fantasy show, and the fact that they keep adding more woc to the cast is amazing!!
And we absolutely see backlash when any characters of color get starring roles. The abuse that Anthony Mackie had faced as Captain America is disgusting.
And you are SO right. The fact that there are so many woc in prominent roles puts a target on their back.
I am so disappointed in the executives and media team behind The Witcher and even outlets like Redanian Intelligence because they do NOTHING to protect their cast who constantly get shit on. Lauren tried to make a point about diversity but she ended up falling into the tolerance paradox and engaging with racists. And she did apologize and learn from it…but one half-assed attempt from a show runner is not nearly enough.
And the colorism point. SAY IT LOUDER. Because the show itself has some serious colorism and texturize problems when it comes to characters like Triss and Francesca. And to be honest, some of that problem comes from the fans demanding actresses of color conform to a white standard of beauty.
I totally understand you leaving the fandom. I’ve had so many fandom friends leave one by one because they couldn’t handle the racism anymore. Almost all of them were woc or poc and it fucking sucks and it’s sad but completely understandable. Honestly I feel really humbled and grateful that ur still following me despite leaving the fandom —- so thank you 💛
Also this was INCREDIBLY well verbalized and written!! You know exactly what to say and how to say it in a concise and knowledgeable way.
