I don’t actually ship syd with anyone. I just love black women and seeing them get everything their hearts desire and more, but if everyone else believes character x or y loves them I will support it with all my heart like it pertains to me personally.

Hollow Hand is the work of Max Klinghorn-Mills (London, UK). We've posted about his earlier work a couple of times; thoughtful pop in the vein of early Syd Barrett and harmonies reminiscent of Midlake.
Now Hollow Hand is set to release a full album on Curation Records (run by Brent Rademaker). I love buying from this label because the product is so lovingly put together and mailed. You'll never find another label quite like this.
The production on "Your Own Adventure" is better than earlier works, but the songs remain beautiful and lush. This fits nicely into the Curation catalogue.
And I don't know how Klinghorn-Mills did this, but he got Tim Smith (Midlake) to contribute vocals and keyboards to one song.

LONG LIVE EVIL Cover Reveal
Tumblr media
This is the cover of LONG LIVE EVIL. So many thanks to my cover artist Syd Mills and my designer Ben Prior. The blend of gleeful irreverence and epic fantasy is so dear to me! I hope you like the cover. I hope even more that you enjoy the book…
A TALE FOR EVERYONE WHO’S EVER FALLEN FOR THE VILLAIN… When her whole life collapsed, Rae still had books. Dying, she seizes a second chance at living: a magical bargain that lets her enter the world of her favourite fantasy series. She wakes in a castle on the edge of a hellish chasm, in a kingdom on the brink of war. Home to dangerous monsters, scheming courtiers and her favourite fictional character: the Once and Forever Emperor. He’s impossibly alluring, as only fiction can be. And in this fantasy world, she discovers she's not the heroine, but the villainess in the Emperor's tale. So be it. The wicked are better dressed, with better one-liners, even if they're doomed to bad ends. She assembles the wildly disparate villains of the story under her evil leadership, plotting to change their fate. But as the body count rises and the Emperor's fury increases, it seems Rae and her allies may not survive to see the final page.
This adult epic fantasy debut from Sarah Rees Brennan puts the reader in the villain's shoes, for an adventure that is both 'brilliant' (Holly Black) and 'supremely satisfying' (Leigh Bardugo). Expect a rogue's gallery of villains including an axe wielding maid, a shining knight with dark moods, a homicidal bodyguard, and a playboy spymaster with a golden heart and a filthy reputation.
Preorder here (tales of goodness to come)!

Sydney Adamu/ Carmy Berzatto
Syd's not feeling great & Carmy notices.
Sydcarmy Masterlist
Full Masterlist
~~~~~~
She's trying to ignore how woozy she feels. Chugs water like her body is a desert and pops another couple of painkillers. Thankfully it's not like this too often, only every few months does it knock her around for a day or two. This time though she wants to crawl inside the oven. She settles for standing against it, chasing the heat for her lower back with a grimace.
"You good, Chef?" He asks, voice laced with concern.
"Yes Chef, all good."
"You cut?" She shakes her head. "Got a burn?"
"Nope," she pops the P, "I'm good, really." She surveys the chaos ahead, Carmy is on family, so that's one less thing to think about. She's not hungry anyway. Just thirsty again, chugs more water and gets to work on the potatoes. He watches her like a hawk as she grips the countertop for a couple of seconds and then let's go again. They go on, always within arms reach, like a gravitational pull, but she's not paying any mind to what he's working on. Head down, focuses on her own tasks and keeps everyone else on time.
"Family's up." His voice is low, right in her ear - a sign he's already called it a couple times. Everyone else is washing up and milling through to grab a seat at the table.
"Right. Thanks Chef, I'm not really hungry."
"C'mon, I made it for you." He nudges her elbow.
"Eh cousin, fuckin' vegetables? What the fuck man?" Richie calls from the other room. She follows Carmy and drops into a chair next to Ebra.
"They're good for you cuz, eat 'em all and you'll be big and strong." Carmy claps him on the back, raising a loud laugh from Tina. He passes her a plate. Spinach and ricotta gnocchi. Very heavy on the spinach. "You need to keep your iron up." He mutters quietly, a ghost of a smile passing between them.
Please, let not this convo take us away from real things - My favorites ships
I must admit I am so confused about this discourse overall, but I think I understood both sides, I think. The Bear is quite recent, TVD not so much. The Bear just started, there's YET to see what's in stock and I am SO excited to share my thoughts here and see y'all thoughts as well. TVD has been a thing - it has books- it is a fantasy world - it is built with the idea that anything can happen and creature of the night. The Bear is about finedining world - Carmy, Syd, his family, the Bear family,etc. Bonnie was the only black female AT ALL(everyone else were getting offed). Syd is the only black female, we actively see. So, the comment about hating Marcus doesn't work, because there are other black people in the show. Not in TVD. No negros were in Paris, they were all dead and buried. I am genuinely so confused. Both identities will impact their interaction with the world - the real and their characters. You are telling me Sydney, our Sydney wasn't impact by all the yelling the restau- industry. Being yelled by men, Being yelled by white men. Who aren't Carmy. Who didn't apologize. The expectation of more from black characters and for them to just be thankful to be there is another thing I won't touch- but like I want more for Syd than to be just another Bonnie Bennett or another Abbie Mills because Carmy has already failed our girl. Imagine you get to work, asked to take on a new role, trusted to do so just to be yelled at by Richie, who is having a mid fucking 40's crisis, rambling about system. Be for real. I'll only speak on this once, because quite frankly I'm still confused on were to start or stop. I am a black viewer. A black female viewer. When I saw Carmy yell at Syd about her mistake, it brought me back to TVD's where Bonnie wasn't allowed to make mistakes. Because being yelled at as a black person and mostly as a black woman with the ANGRY black woman stereotype in the air- is different if let's say if Elena was yelled at or humor me- Claire would have been yelled at. I knew when Carmy asked her ''Chef we good'' that sis was in fact NOT GOOD. In the real world, it happens. You do not want to be the angry black woman who yells back. Like, an example that comes to mind it's like comments critizing Syd about her mistake with the ticket machine ( which post that follows will be about this). Sydcarmy is so good because it is so close to friends to lovers. Bamon is literally so hot because it's enemy to lovers. More like enemies -friends then lovers. We have convo about the ship being canon so much, I just cannot grasp that there would be a convo about another ship were shippers were gaslit, called slurs and what not. That wouldn't some Sydcarmies go- damn, it has happened already, let's not like reproduce that. Let's not foster that here because it has already started like most Bear fans on Reddits are racists. Idk if some of you get my point. Sydney has the opportunity to have depth because it is given to her. To the point where Ayo even has the opportunity to direct some episodes. (mad excitinnnnng!) Bonnie is a witch, from a powerful coven. She was used a plot device to kill and torture. A literal pocket witch. The equivalent of a human lighter. When the actress who worked and is a singer-dancer and literal artist asked to sing in the show she was refused. Both white actors could, only one of them was a singer - he hadn't even in the show for 5 years and the actress wasn't a singer (correct me if wrong).
Fantasy can be changed, like racism..didn't have to exist in the show or to be a thing, right. Julie Plec made it a thing, she was avoidant of literally talking about slaves, which Bonnie's witch ancestors were.It would have been a wonderful opportunity to explore the depth of things such as voodo or hoodo in that case-. Like Bonnie Bennett, was robbed of true potential.
I don't want that to happen, knowing that racism IS a real thing, the Bear IS in a form of real world ( despite me loving all the time-space talk of @unladyboss) and AYO is a real person so is KAT. I like to share my thoughts here and I like to hear from you guys as well, I refuse to think that some of you will keep it surface level because it is the same thing we reproach other platforms and use to explain why we ran here.
Hidden Gifts
Day 10 of 12 Days of Ficmas
Pairing: Victor Vale x fem!reader
Summary: You sneak out to buy Christmas presents, but when Victor wakes up to find you missing, he inflicts pain until he finds you.
Word Count: 1.1k+ words
Warnings: angst, fluff, it's somewhat implied that the reader is an EO. This could be platonic if you ignore 1 little thing.
A/N: The hot chocolate gif is based on 1 line from the fic bc none of the (far too few) Vicious gifs matched this. Sorry this is kinda short, but I will be working on the Victor series over the next few weeks! Feel free to send me ideas, requests, or feedback! :)
Tumblr media
You sit up slowly, willing the bed frame not to creak as you stand. Sydney’s door is open, but she’s asleep, her arm wrapped around Dol as his snout rests against her neck. Smiling at the sight, you continue sneaking down the hallway, glad that Victor’s door is closed and Mitch is sound asleep. Pulling your coat on, you slip out the door, away from Victor Vale.
The streets of Merit are busy, last-minute shoppers milling in and out of stores. Christmas decorations make the town seem brighter than in broad daylight, and the Christmas spirit feels tangible.
Finding the perfect gift for Sydney, you put it in your basket and continue shopping. Victor is the hardest to shop for; you’re not sure what he would want. Another trench coat? World peace? Who knows.
✯✯✯✯✯
Victor rolls over, his eyes fixed on the ceiling as he wakes. His pale brows furrow as he realises something feels off. The pain dial in his mind always has at least three outward connections: Sydney, Mitch, and you. Occasionally, there are more, like when Dom is around, but now he can only feel two.
He gets up and walks across the hall, the steady sound of Mitch’s breathing alerting Victor to his presence. Moving toward Sydney’s room, his concern grows as he wonders how and why she would be gone at this time of night. She’s curled in her bed, wrapped around Dol, though. Which only means one thing: you are gone.
Victor approaches Sydney’s bed and lays a hand on her shoulder to shake her. He says her name, whispering an apology to Dol when he stretches awake.
“What?” Sydney asks, her eyes still closed.
Victor says your name, and Sydney’s eyes open.
“What about her?” she asks, sitting up.
“She’s not here. Do you know if she went somewhere?”
“No, she didn’t say she was going anywhere. Are you sure she’s gone? Maybe she’s just in the other room.”
“I can’t feel her, to control her pain I mean. She’s not here, Syd.”
Sydney gets out of bed, maneuvering over Dol, who is content to go back to sleep, aware of Sydney’s anxiety but too tired to care. No one blames him.
“Mitch!” Victor says as he enters the bedroom.
“Too early,” Mitch grunts.
Victor ignores his complaints and asks if he knows where you are. Mitch rubs his eyes before rolling over to look at Victor.
“She’s gone?”
Victor’s jaw clenches before he walks to the front door. Sydney and Mitch follow him, wondering what his plan is.
“I’ll find her,” Victor vows, pulling his coat on. “Stay in here. I can’t wish a good night to all.”
The door slams shut, and Sydney looks up at Mitch.
“Was that a Christmas quote?” she asks quietly.
“Yeah,” Mitch answers, his eyes on the door. “He cares about her, so…”
“He’s going to find her no matter what.”
Mitch nods, directing Sydney to the kitchen as he gathers the ingredients for hot chocolate.
“Do you think she’s okay?”
Mitch smiles as he says, “She can handle herself. And I don’t think we need to be concerned about her safety or well-being, not with Victor out there.”
✯✯✯✯✯
As Victor walks down the street, he turns the dial up more than necessary. What should be causing people to turn away from him is instead making people fold in on themselves and collapse in pain. Victor notices that nearly every person in Merit has a shopping bag, so he starts looking into stores. He wonders why you’d be out shopping without telling anyone, even as he searches a store window for you.
The next store he approaches has too many Christmas decorations in the window to see anything, so he sighs before walking in. Tired and dealing with an anxiety he isn’t used to, Victor turns up the dial as he walks down the centre aisle. Several people groan with pain, and Victor ignores everything as he tries to focus on finding you with the pain.
“Vic,” you whisper harshly, somewhere in the store.
He turns down one of the aisles and finds you staring at him, holding your shoulder like it’s in pain.
“What are you doing?”
The pain immediately lessens, and you drop your hand, several shopping bags falling by the full basket beside you.
“You left without telling me,” Victor explains, “what was I supposed to think?”
“You were supposed to stay asleep! It’s midnight, why are you here?” you argue.
“Why are you here?”
“Because I’m buying Christmas gifts. Believe it or not, Sydney and Mitch, even you, deserve Christmas. We don’t have to hide anymore, Vic. Well… now we do because you knocked out half the people in this city.” You add the last part sarcastically, but Victor knows you’re right.
The people in the store recover and begin shopping again, in just enough nudging pain that they don’t look at you.
“Let’s go,” Victor demands, turning away from you.
“I need to pay for this.”
You see Victor’s shoulders rise and fall with his exasperated breath, but he gestures for you to lead the way. He stands behind you, glaring at the young cashier until he finishes ringing up your purchases and begins gift-wrapping them. Victor silently opens the door for you, taking some of the bags and turning everyone away as you return to where you should have been all night.
Victor opens the door and follows you inside before setting your bags down. He turns to face you, tossing his coat onto a nearby chair.
“You can’t just leave like that. Those gifts aren’t the only ones that need to be hidden, and you know it,” Victor says.
“And you know that I can take care of myself, Vic. It has been a terrible year and I just wanted to do something nice, make this Christmas special, is that so bad?” you respond, crossing your arms.
Victor sighs and drags his hands down his face. “I care about you, as much as it pains me to admit,” he pauses as you stifle a laugh, waving a hand to make him continue. “When I woke up and you weren’t here…”
“You assumed the worst.” You place a hand on Victor’s shoulder and promise, “I’m not going anywhere, Vic. I care about you, too, and Sydney, Mitch, and Dol. You’re stuck with me.”
Victor looks at your hand on his shoulder, then grabs your other hand, pulling you into him before he tilts your chin and kisses you.
“I knew I should have gotten mistletoe!” Sydney whines as she walks in. Her attitude changes when she sees the bags, approaching them to ask, “What’d you get?”
You gently slap her hand away and reply, “You have to wait ‘til Christmas morning.”
“Yeah, kid,” Victor teases.
“You do too,” you tell him.
“Just for those gifts, right?”
You roll your eyes, smiling as you walk away with the bags.
“Just for those, right?” he yells after you.
Easy As
Tumblr media
A Carmen Berzatto Universe
This is another request from my inbox - feel free to message in requests for these two!
Vanessa Monaghan is the breath of fresh air that Carmen had been gasping for.
Page 11: Tasting
Tumblr media
“A tasting?” Vanessa quirked an eyebrow as she leaned back in her work chair, legs crossing over one another.
“Yeah, it’s gonna be small, private,” Carmen said, knee bouncing in his office. “I know it’s late, but I thought it was worth a shot.”
Vanessa glanced at her calendar for the day. She could move her 5 p.m. to next week, giving her enough time to stop home and freshen up a bit before heading to River North.
“I’ll be there,” she smiled into the receiver.
“Really?” Carmen’s eyebrows shot up into his hairline. “I mean, great! Yeah, I’m glad you can come – come hungry,” he insisted.
“Starving, I missed lunch today and I’ve been in meetings all afternoon,” she groaned, making Carmen frown. “Wait – isn’t it better to not be hungry? What if I’m biased because I’m hungry?” She asked, causing Carmen to laugh.
“Everything’s going to be good anyway,” he shrugged. “Cocky!” She giggled, her coworker giving her a knowing look as she passed by Vanessa’s mostly glass office.
“Confident,” Carmen countered.
“I’ll see you at 6, Carm,” she smiled.
“See ya then,” he replied, waiting a beat before hanging up. He couldn’t believe she was coming. It was their first tasting of the week – later they’d have media in house testing out he and Syd’s new menu. Reviews would be coming out in the Sunday paper and he was certain they’d be five stars across the board. But now, they got to do something for friends and family.
It was almost distracting how excited he was to see Vanessa. They’d been able to find time to get together once a week since their meeting at the grocery store about four months ago. Besides the restaurant, she’d be come the most consistent part of his life and he was already falling deep for her.
She was smart, beautiful, caring, funny… he could have gone on and on. He just didn’t realize what she saw in him.
His team had noticed, too. He was a little lighter in his shoes, his words delivered more carefully, smiling more abundantly.
“Is Vanessa coming?” Sydney asked the moment he stepped out of the office. He noticed that T and Ebrahim paused their ministrations nearby.
“Hm?” He pretended not to hear her.
“Is she coming or what?” Richie asked loudly, causing Carmen to roll his head across his shoulders.
“Yeah, yeah, she’s coming okay? Everyone act as normal as you possibly can!” He shouted, drawing a few shouts and one thrown dishtowel. “Don’t make it weird!” He called out.
The afternoon passed by in a blur. Everyone was excited for their families to join and thus, time went by quickly. Carmen ducked into the office at a quarter to six, washing off his face with a wet cloth, running his fingers through his hair and popping in three Altoids.
From: Vanessa
I’m on foot!
He ducked out of the front of house where Sydney was putting final touches on plates, a few guests already milling about and intercepted the brunette just as she came around the corner.
“Hi!” She smiled breathlessly. There was a real chill in the early November air and her nose was tinged just barely pink. “Where’s your jacket?” She asked, taking him in with his white T-shirt and blue apron.
“It’s warm in there,” he offered as she slid her arms around his middle.
“Well if the food is as good as you smell, I’m sold,” she smiled, a thin layer of pink gloss on her lips. He closed the distance between them, a little keyed up with excitement for the night and seeing her.
Her arms gravitated from around Carmen’s waist to his neck as she deepened the kiss. He shuddered as she played with the small hairs at the nape of his neck.
“Minty,” she laughed, pecking his lip softly.
“Wait, just a lil’ more,” he chased her mouth, walking her slowly backwards until she was pressed against the brick of the alleyway.
“Carm,” she warned. “I don’t wanna meet all your friends with wet panties,” she finished. Carmen groaned, pressing his nose into her neck. “But you can take them off of me after dinner tonight,” she offered, “if you wanted to come have a sleepover.”
Carmen was equally as excited about sleeping over as he was about taking the train with her up to her place. Sitting next to her on the El and showing everyone else in the car what a beautiful girl he had.
“I’m in,” he pecked her once more. “Okay, please just don’t take anything Richie says seriously,” he said, lacing his fingers through hers. “You can only trust T and Syd, and even then, a grain of salt is warranted,” he finished.
She shook her head, squeezing his bicep with her free hand before he could open the door for her.
They had staged a small coats area and he helped her out of hers, unveiling a black knit sweater dress and her tan legs, which were tucked into a pair of black knee-high boots. She wore a crisp white oxford shirt underneath her dress, which would otherwise show deep cleavage, but her figure spoke for itself. Carmen wanted to chew on the silver jewelry that adorned her ears and wrists.
“You look amazing,” he said quietly, giving her a chaste kiss on the cheek.
“Thanks, Carm,” she gave his hand, tucked between the two of them a little squeeze.
They were too new to be hot and heavy in front of other people, and frankly, she wasn’t a huge PDA person (unless it’s in the back alley of a River North restaurant apparently).
“Vanessa!” Her head turned to be greeted by who should could only guess was Sydney. Not waiting for Carmen, the two quickly embraced in a hug.
“It’s so nice to meet you!” Vanessa smiled, holding on to Syd’s shoulders. “Carmen talks about you all the time, he thinks the world of you,” Vanessa gushed.
Sydney laughed, waving her hand. It seemed Vanessa had a certain effect on everyone. She didn’t even need Carmen to introduce her around, she was working the room just as fine on her own and it made him all the more proud that she was there with him.
That was, until it came to Richie.
“Now,” the taller man began, leaning against the service counter. “What are your intentions with my Carmen?” He asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Richie, come off it,” Carmen shook his head, but a small quirk at his lips as he leaned against an empty table.
“Pure as the driven snow,” Vanessa replied with a grin, a drink having appeared in her hands about 10 minutes earlier.
“I gotta be careful with my cousin, Miss Monaghan, you already got him all loved up, head in the clouds, mixing up his facts ‘n figures, the man’s feet aren’t touching the ground,” he rattled off, gesturing with his hands. “I gotta scrape this boy up off the sidewalk at the end of the day,” he shook his head.
“Carm’s a big boy,” she winked, not giving away that he had just slid his hand over the swell of her ass from behind her. But he wasn’t quick enough for Richie.
“Hey, hey, hey!” He jeered, looping an arm around Vanessa’s shoulders and pulling her into his side. “You gotta treat a lady with respect, Carmen Silvio,” he scolded. “What are your intentions with my Vanessa?”
It wasn’t long until Vanessa was on her third plate of food, having devoured everything in front of her as it appeared. She didn’t mind sitting beside Syd’s dad, James, chatting with him intermittently about what was coming out of the kitchen.
“This is the best one,” Vanessa insisted, whispering conspiratorially with James.
“What was that?” Carmen asked, appearing seemingly out of thin air. Vanessa looked over at him with big eyes.
“Nothing!” She smiled, setting her fork down.
“You said that one was the best one?” He asked, stepping closer to her table, pointing down at the dish that was one of Sydney’s creations.
“I don’t think I did? Did you hear that?” She looked over at James, whose mouth was still full.
“I didn’t hear it,” he shook his head.
“The lady said mine was her favorite,” Sydney said, appearing behind Carmen. Vanessa looked up at the two, blinking like a baby owl as she slowly brought another bite up to her mouth.
“It’s really good,” she confessed. Carmen threw his hands up before heading back to the kitchen, making Sydney laugh.
“This one’s mine,” she admitted, making Vanessa smile.
“You must be so proud,” she looked at James, who was – Sydney had to keep from dancing back to the kitchen.
“I love her,” she said to Carmen, who was wiping down the edges of his next plate. “Don’t screw it up,” she warned. He could feel that was the general consensus of the evening.
Two hours later, the kitchen was clean, the guests had all parted, and all that remained was Carmen and Vanessa.
He held her hand as they sat on the train together and she relayed all of her thoughts from dinner. He could listen to her read the phonebook and he’d still be enthralled.
“And Marcus’ dessert?” She asked, looking up at the sky. They walked together, hand in hand, the four blocks to her apartment from the stop at Fullerton. “I’m going to be thinking about it all week,” she sighed.
“It’s a good thing I’m not insecure,” he teased half-heartedly. She stopped on the sidewalk, giving his hand a little tug to stop him as well, before looping her arms atop his shoulders.
“Carmy, the whole night was amazing,” she reassured. “You and your team are so talented, all of the food was incredible,” she added. “But I was most taken aback by how much they love and respect you,” she placed her hand on his jaw. “The control and precision and attention to detail you have, all while commanding the whole kitchen? I’m in awe of you,” she finished.
She didn’t have time to blink before he was on her, kissing her like the day would end right in the middle of the sidewalk.
A lone wolf-whistle across the street drew them apart.
I fucking love you. Carmen thought.
“But yes, Syd’s dish was my favorite.”
At certain points in the trailer they gave sibling vibes both their look and the fact that with no chemistry they make the “we hate each other” look like “I’m annoyed with my little sister/big brother” 🤡 ALSO you didn’t hear it from me but… he looks a bit too old and she looks a bit too young for it to be convincing that they went to college together???
NOT THE SIBLINGS
no, I agree that their looks do not match the ages that they are supposed to be playing. Glen, my boy, I love you, but you have officially aged out of the "I can be a frat boy" character.
again, this just proves the point that they saw two up and coming hot actors and was like "yes." which makes me think, that someone saw that the chemistry between them was dog shit and created the rumor mill and had the cast post pics of glen and syd to try and create something cause the movie is gonna give nothing
