some thoughts on self-publishing
After years of rejections from tradpub for most of my books with trans MCs because they were deemed 'unrelatable', deciding to self-publish has been so fulfilling, it's allowed me to reach thousands of readers and given me more confidence to continue down the path of writing.
I had so much self-doubt at some point before fully committing to self-publishing and wondered if my stories would ever be worth something, still, I gave it a go.
At first things were slow, it was hard to find readers, but I NEEDED to learn how to market my books properly!!!
Once I figured out how to market my books (and with a bit of luck) they went viral multiple times & found their audience!!!
Grateful that we live in an age where it's possible for authors to do this, where readers can support books they want to read without need for a publisher.
I've been able to keep publishing books solely because readers continuously return to read them, I'm unagented & not traditionally published but still there is nothing more rewarding than this, it really feels like I can be an author now & write books for a living thanks to you❤️
This isn't a dig at tradpub by any means btw, and I would 100% still be very open to trying tradpub if the opportunity arose, but knowing that tradpub is not the only route you can take as a writer and that you can still find an audience without it is really reassuring. ❤️
And if you're a reader, I want to say, THANK YOU FOR READING THE BOOKS!!! Thank you for allowing me to publish more stories!!! Thank you for being here!!! THANK YOU!!! 😭❤️❤️
