Beltane is mentioned in the earliest Irish literature and is associated with important events in Irish mythology. Also known as Cétshamhain ('first of summer'), it marked the beginning of summer & was when cattle were driven out to the summer pastures. Rituals were performed to protect cattle, people & crops, and to encourage growth. (Today, Witches who observe the Wheel of the Year celebrate Beltane as the height of Spring.)

Special bonfires were kindled, whose flames, smoke & ashes were deemed to have protective powers. The people and their cattle would walk around or between bonfires & sometimes leap over the flames or embers. All household fires would be doused & then re-lit from the Beltane bonfire.

These gatherings would be accompanied by a feast, and some of the food and drink would be offered to the aos sí. Doors, windows, byres and livestock would be decorated with yellow May flowers, perhaps because they evoked fire.

In parts of Ireland, people would make a May Bush: typically a thorn bush or branch decorated with flowers, ribbons, bright shells & rushlights. Holy wells were also visited, while Beltane dew was thought to bring beauty & maintain youthfulness.

• The aos sí (often referred to as spirits or fairies) were thought to be especially active at Beltane. Like Samhain, which lies directly opposite from Beltane on the Wheel of the Year, this was seen as a time when the veil between worlds was at its thinnest. At Samhain the veil between the worlds of the living & the dead is thin enough that we can connect & convene with our beloved dead, here at Beltane it’s the veil between the human world, and the world of faeries & nature spirits that has grown thin. Offerings would be left at the ancient faerie forts, the wells and in other sacred places in an effort to appease these nature spirits to ensure a successful growing season.

Some believe this is when The Goddess is now the Mother & the God is seen as the Green Man or the wild stag. It celebrates the symbolic union, mating or marriage of the Goddess & God & heralds in the coming summer months. It represents life rather than Samhain on the opposite side of the Wheel of the Year.

Other Celebrations:

• Rosealia- May 23rd

Rosalia or Rosaria was a festival of roses celebrated on various dates, primarily in May, but scattered through mid-July. The observance is sometimes called a rosatio ("rose-adornment") or the dies rosationis, "day of rose-adornment," & could be celebrated also with violets. As a commemoration of the dead, the rosatio developed from the custom of placing flowers at burial sites. It was among the extensive private religious practices by means of which the Romans cared for their dead, reflecting the value placed on tradition (mos maiorum, "the way of the ancestors"), family lineage & memorials ranging from simple inscriptions to grand public works. Several dates on the Roman calendar were set aside as public holidays or memorial days devoted to the dead.

Roses had funerary significance in Greece, but were particularly associated with death & entombment among the Romans. In Greece, roses appear on funerary steles & in epitaphs most often of girls. Flowers were traditional symbols of rejuvenation, rebirth &memory, with the red & purple of roses & violets felt to evoke the color of blood as a form of propitiation

First: once you know something’s name you have power over it. This is an old, old rule. Be careful giving out your name, because if it can be given it can be taken, and you along with it.

Second: the fae love beautiful things, and they will steal what they love. Sometimes it is to keep the object of their affection pristine and unaging, unravaged by time; sometimes it is just for the sake of having it. (They don’t love in the same way we do.)

Third: a changeling is a replica created to hide a theft. Sometimes it is a fae creature fully alive and wearing a stolen face. Sometimes it is simply a bundle of branches wrapped in magic, meant to die a wasting death and leave mourners who never suspect the truth.

Last: our city was beautiful. It was known far and wide, and because of that had names spoken in many different tongues. But it was not so hard to gather them all, in the end.

The changeling city was built in a night. The elf-queen fell in love with it, the story goes, and she had to have it. The sun on the far side of the equinox rose to find our city had been stolen from under us, and an imperfect imitation left in its place. Those who had known it their whole life found it suddenly strange underfoot, unfamilar and uncanny. Something woven of branches wrapped in magic, meant to die a wasting death and leave mourners who never suspected the truth.

And yet. What does a changeling want? It exists to hide a theft and then to die. What does it want?

A city can die. A city can be dying. So a city must then also be able to live. A city grows and changes and devours itself to grow further. Cities are hungry. A city kept unaging and untouched will starve to death: it becomes its own mausoleum. (Our city, the stolen city, is pristine and unaging and unravaged by time, in the elf-queen’s land. It is also dead.)

Our city, the changeling city, was meant to die - and so it must have been living, and living things want to keep living. We want it to keep living. We tear down buildings and raise new ones, pave and repave old streets, dig deep into the earth below, coax the borders ever outward like creeping vines. The changes tear open the glamor. The cobweb-thick veil of magic bubbles and warps around new steel girders and road salts, the slow march forward of time and architecture and the tides of humanity. It is how we discover the theft. But even then our city, the changeling city, was already too much something-else to be sent back wholesale. We would not burn it.

Our city becomes stranger around each new rupture point. Marble crumbles into ancient seashells when we tear down old buildings for the stone. When we dig downward into what should be ancient, buried streets, ready to excavate and tunnel, we find untouched cave systems full of silver trees, perfect unmoving imitations of life. Sometimes the cobblestones shake loose and you can see tiles of lapis lazuli and bone laid below them. Some streets writhe like snakes, or unname themselves. In the oldest parts of the city, which we have altered the least, there are buildings that have electricity and running water and heat, even though there is nothing in the bundled-branch walls but kudzu.

This strangeness, the way it shifts and contorts as it grows into something new, is as much part of our city as the image of the stolen city is. The changeling city is a branch grafted into another tree, bearing the first blooms of something the roots were never meant to support. But bloom it does. There are people born in this city, now, who never knew the stolen one at all. People who will never, in all their lives and all the world, feel at home anywhere else, nor know another place half as well.

What does a changeling want? It exists to hide a theft, but what does it want? To be allowed to be. To grow beyond the image it was made in. This is not our city, the stolen city. And yet this is our city. Ever-changing and ravaged by time and alive, it is our city.

It has its own name by now, but you will never know it. We have lost, and learned, and love too dearly to lose this one.

The price includes the following: the stone wrapped in the metal of your choice (sterling silver, 14k gold fill, 14k rose gold fill), an 18″ chain finished with a handmade clasp, and it includes free shipping worldwide!

You will choose the style they’d like it wrapped in. There are three example pics below.

Payment is due when the stone is claimed and all the options are chosen (metal, style, etc). PLEASE NOTE - these will be completed by the end of MARCH 2024. There’s always a possibility that something comes up that causes a delay, but I do try to get them early. They take a long time to make, please make sure you’re okay with the wait before ordering. I put the utmost care into this and have extreme attention to detail, and when that combines with my busy schedule, it means that it can take a while. LAPIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN BLUE! LAPIS LAZULI! WHY ISN'T SHE BLUE?!

She's called Lapis, not Lazuli.

She is quite literally just a regular run-of-mill girl trying to seem less like a common villager and her name reflects that. She tricked you by making you think she was inspired by a precious rock but she's just an ordinary stone - just like how retainers of royalty are expected to come from well-off backgrounds but Lapis was a regular village girl.

Being blue would have taken away from that aspect of her character. The reds and pinks were a great choice to make her stand out to the players while also making her feel at home in Brodia because red is the main colour of Brodia. All 8 named brodia characters have red in their design, 7 if yunaka's hair isn't red enough in your opinion. The brodian symbol is red. Hell, even the plants themselves are red.

See how well she fits in? Lapis is designed to not stand out against the Brodian characters and by extention the entire country. Making her blue will make her stand out.

In conclusion, you got tricked and quite possibly bamboozled. Lapis 1, Anons 0.

How It is Created: Lapis lazuli is a complex mineral made up of lazurite, pyrite, and calcite. The lazurite gives it its deep blue color (along with the sulfur that’s in its matrix), the pyrite gives it its golden veins, and the calcite gives it its white specks.

History: The name comes from the Latin word lapis, meaning stone, and the word lazuli which means blue. It was first mined in Afghanistan but it has existed even before then. The Egyptians used lapis lazuli in protective amulets and other jewelry. It was used famously by Egyptian nobility, even its powdered form being used as eyeshadow. With its brilliant indigo colour pertaining to the heavenly celeste, the stone was often reserved for objects and accessories destined for use in ritual ceremonies. It was also a source of the ultramarine pigment in religious mural paintings. Scholar’s objects fashioned from this material are scarce, though a small number of carved mountains and table screens do exist. Symbolic of purity and rarity, lapis lazuli appears to have been named qingjinshi (blue gold stone) during the Qing dynasty. The aura of mystery that surrounded this stone may have been due to the virtually inaccessible location of its principle mines in the remote Badakshan region of northeast Afghanistan behind the Hindu Kush.

I have just finished rereading Deltora Quest and I am CONVINCED that Emily Rodda got to her third series, said "I'm gonna have some sick as DRAGONS in this one and they're all gonna have epic names linked to the stones of their territories" and ONLY THEN did she realise that she never gave the Lapis Lazuli anything more specific than 'the heavenly stone's and 'its a talisman' like bitch they're ALL TALISMANS THAT DOESNT MAKE IT SPECIAL!

Anyways then she started retconning in some stuff about it's for luck and fortune so she could use Fortuna as a name and didn't have to name her super cute tiny star spangled singing dragon Sparkles or some shit.

I had this random fic idea where reader and ellie go to a spiritual/metaphysical shop. ellie finds it so cute how the reader is so excited about buying books and crystals. the crystal reader really wants is a little pricey so she decides not to buy it but ellie goes back for it 🫶😭 (sorry for this horrible explanation but if ur looking for ideas i thought this was a cute one)

a/n: thank you for requesting!! i did this in headcanons i hope that's okay <333 i absolutely love going into the crystal shop that's near me even though i have no clue what anything really is haha so this was fun to write!

ellie would have zero clue what you were talking about when you mentioned a "crystal shop"

she was like ???

but anything for you! so she loaded you up in her car, buckled you in, turned on the loudest music ever, and drove through the city to get you to where you wanted

she really enjoyed the vibe of the store, the plants and incense burning was 100% up her alley

ellie took a couple interior design notes as she walked around

you were bouncing off the walls excitedly touching the crystals that were out and then pointing at the ones that were on display

"this is rose quartz, it's the crystal for love!"

ellie would furrow her brows and say, "you don't need that, though. im right here."

like!!

you just roll your eyes, "but it's pink?"

ellie just crosses her arms knowing she can't win if its pink

you looked around some more but a stone caught your eye

it was behind a glass display so it was more expensive

it was a hunk of lapis lazuli and it was gorgeous, the light caught it perfectly showing how it sparkled

you were staring at it for a full minute before you turned to get ellie's attention (who was looking through the sapphic love spell book btw)

"ellie look at pretty that is."

she is also intrigued by it, "woah... how much is it? that would look good on our mantel."

you tried not to get giddy at how domestic that sounded while you looked for the price tag behind the glass

when your eyes met the number your blood went cold

"holy hell, it's 2,500."

the two of you gawked for a bit at the absurd price until you decided to take your smaller stones to the register

bye bye to the stunning lapis lazuli... until you met in a different life

well that's what you thought

until you came home a week later to the exact crystal sitting on your mantel with a proud ellie staring at it, hands on her hips

"whaddya think?!" she exclaims, eyes twinkling

you punch her shoulder but it wasn't even hard enough to make her budge, "i think you are insane!! that was a horrible financial choice."

she laughs, "money is fleeting but a huge chunk of.... lapel lachuli? now that... that is forever."

ellie didn't even know the name of the crystal but all she knew was you looked at it a little too much

• Sukkot- is a Torah-commanded holiday celebrated for seven days, beginning on the 15th day of the month of Tishrei. It is one of the Three Pilgrimage Festivals (Hebrew: שלוש רגלים, shalosh regalim) on which those Israelites who could were commanded to make a pilgrimage to the Temple in Jerusalem. The history of the Mid-Autumn Festival dates back over 3,000 years. Many cultures see the second harvest (after the first harvest Lammas) and equinox as a time for giving thanks. This time of year is when farmers know how well their summer crops did, and how well fed their animals have become. This determines whether you and your family would have enough food for the winter. That is why people used to give thanks around this time, thanks for their crops, and animals, and food.

The name Mabon comes from the Welsh God, who was the son of the Earth Mother Goddess. However, there is evidence that the name was adopted in the 1970s, and the holiday was not originally a Celtic celebration.

Some believe Night and day are of equal legth and the God's energy & strength are nearly gone . The Goddess begins to mourn the loss she knows is coming, but knows he will return when he reborn at Yule.

From Liber 777, incenses appropriate to Jupiter are Saffron and "all generous odors." Associated plants are Hyssop, Oak, Poplar, Fig, Arnica, and Cedar. The associated metal is tin, and the associated precious stones are amethyst and lapis lazuli.

The god-name in Assiah for the path of Jupiter is ABA (Aleph-Beth-Aleph) or AL AB (Aleph-Lamed, Aleph-Beth). It is far more common for Jupiter operations to be taught using Al or El as the god-name for Jupiter, but this is actually the god-name appropriate to Chesed, the sephira of Jupiter. It appears to be quite effective, and allows you to make a meaningful distinction between sephiroth and paths in the context of the ceremonial forms.

So here’s the rundown. Below is a picture with each stone numbered, and below that is the name of each stone, along with the price.

The price includes the following: the stone wrapped in the metal of your choice (sterling silver, 14k gold fill, 14k rose gold fill), an 18″ chain finished with a handmade clasp, and it includes free shipping worldwide!

You will choose the style they’d like it wrapped in. There are three example pics below.

Payment is due when the stone is claimed and all the options are chosen (metal, style, etc). PLEASE NOTE - these will be completed by the end of August 2023. There's always a possibility that something comes up that causes a delay, but I do try to get them early. They take a long time to make, please make sure you’re okay with the wait before ordering. I put the utmost care into this and have extreme attention to detail, and when that combines with my busy schedule, it means that it can take a while. If you are buying one for a certain event or deadline please be sure to let me know when ordering, so I can let you know if it’s possible for it to be completed before then!
