Ok, so I learned @shantyland / @colonelstrawberry has been working on a new game called The Bark Side. She illustrated the cards for the game and they just look so beautiful. The Bark Side currently has a Kickstarter with roughly a week left. More information about it can be found here.

However I, like most college-aged artists, am broke as all heck. But if I can’t afford to support it, at least I can get at least my followers notified about it. All 32 of them.

The game has 10 different cards, 8 of which have been shown, and for this week/next week, I’ll be making my characters “re-enacting” the different card dogs, starting off with Andy being Card #1.

OOC: Oh my gosh! Honestly, I’m stunned when people ask me for drawing advice, I don’t even draw nagas as well as some people I know, heheh ;v; Well, something I’ve always done is study refs of snakes in real life, to get an idea of how their coils are supposed to look, but most of the time I honestly just get crazy with loops and S-shapes, and see what looks acceptable to me and what doesn’t. I still have a lot of trouble getting coils to look just right, though—I’m so jealous of people who seem to do it so naturally and make them look so sexy and perfect, haha! QvQ

As for the human half, I’d say since you have a snake half attached to your character, it’s fun to think about all the interesting ways they might be able to bend and pose. Here’s a neat piece by an artist I love on DA called Shantyland of their naga character Mamba in all kinds of neat poses, I try to use this for inspiration when I’m thinking about nagas (although I also still have a lot of trouble with posing and making my characters too stiff ;;).

Expression sheet commission for Shantyland! She gave me the choice of a few characters to do expressions for. I ended up choosing Varis, a canine/deinosuchus mutant. But, she had this one character she offered up named Shyguy, who’s a downer sort of personality. I felt a little bad for not choosing him (even though I really liked how he looked) so I ended up drawing him anyway to make him feel better. ;-;
