#Sesshomaru is a father figure to Rin and Kohaku

Sesshomaru being such a strong advocate for autonomy is so freaking good, it gets me every time. Like, sure, dude may ask a question because he’s curious, but, “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.”
And fucking- don’t even get me started with him killing Mukotsu and the whole, “I can survive just fine on my own” scene in later seasons. Plus him stopping every time Rin and Jaken go to speak so he can look at them and actively listen to what they’re saying is so-
Gods.
I love him so much. And like the only reason he has travel companions is because they decided to travel with him and he just kinda let them.
Oh, Jaken wanted to travel with him? Fine, here’s a staff, this is my name, do what you want. Okay, just revived a child. Do what you want, I guess. Here’s a kimono since your old one is covered in blood. Oh, it’s the kid that tried to kill my child before. You want to travel with me too? Well, my child has forgiven you so go off, I guess. You’re already prepared for everything so I don’t have to give you a weapon or clothes. I’ll just save you when you’re in over your head against an enemy. Anyways, just do whatever you want. I don’t care. Unless it affects me. Or endangers you. In which case I care very much but will never admit it.

I don't care about yashahime, to me sesshomaru will always belong to the 20 something yr old fathers that stepped up club along with gojo and gintoki and no anime revival can take that away from me.

Naraku in episode 67, Me: "You can hang me up by your demonic appendages. (˵ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°˵) I would be okay with that." I'll love you. 🥺💜 Drop kick Kikyō, boo. Obsess over me and I'll return the favor.👁 🔪 I mean– Y'all saw nothing. 😗🎶
Episode 80, knowing the jist of Yashahime, Me: "I see why y'all are mad and were actively rooting for Naraku this episode."
Bby Gurl Didn't Finish The Job Though.
Tumblr media
In the Sengoku period, it was probably normal for a teenager to marry her lord. BUT, pardon me for being a 2000's Westerner, the audience watching Yashahime are in the TODAY era, the 2020's. Rin marrying her parental figure is giving me full-on heebie-jeebies. Who gave Yashahime the go-ahead? Why give that ship a stamp of approval knowing full well the entire world will see it somehow?/rh
Not once did I sense any romantic vibes between Rin and Sess, not then and not now. I would have even accepted Kohaku x Rin; they interacted like twice the entire series. Sesshomaru should have just stayed a lonely single father.

Custom Toonami Block Week 175 Rundown
The Witch from Mercury: So IMMEDIATELY after Sul’s duel with Gaston everyone goes ‘wait aren’t the suits that suck the life out of you banned because our war chief is a bloodthirsty dictator?’ and she immediately gets arrested and kicked out of school. Meanwhile Mio’s been told that she’s no longer forced to marry the school’s top pilot and her father is cutting out the middleman and just arranging a marriage for her which she’s like what 16 even for a high business monarchy style thing it seems a little early to lock that down that hard. Also just kinda wondering what the point of even playing at the ‘oh it’s whoever the best is’ if you’re just gonna immediately cut the façade whenever it’s someone you don’t want like why not just force a marriage from the start. Anyway Mio’s like ‘bitch I wanted to marry the gay girl how dare you take back your orders and give me new ones’ like she doesn’t like being told what to do but explicitly seemed a lot more chill about it when it was Sul. Gaston gets beaten by his father for losing and we allude to him being slightly less shitty than we were initially led to believe since he did send some people to clean up Mio’s garden. The bigwigs are all having a NERV-style meeting of shadowy figures and our resident obligatory Masked Gundam Character Prospera is like ‘yeah it looks and functions exactly like a Gundam but it didn’t suck her soul out so it can’t be one, right?’ and no one’s fucking buying that and also it’s a bunch of old men high on their own power so they’re just like ‘well you’re under arrest for building something that functions exactly like the thing we banned then’. Meanwhile Mio shows up, redicrecting her escape attempt to Earth to save Sul and telling her father off and basically having a badass teenage tantrum in a shareholder’s meeting, like it’s kinda cool how blatantly petty and personal her grievances are that it takes some balls to bring it up the way she does surrounded by the most important people in the world that just sentenced a masked lady to jail for technically not breaking the law. She challenges her dad to fight the Aerial and reinstate her engagement to Sul which he has absolutely no obligation to accept given idk if Corporations should really work on Klingon rules anyway and if you’re gonna take shit from him say if you win you get the whole company, go big or go home. But the group discusses that the illegal suit is pretty dope and they wanna get some more data out of it so they agree to let Sul fight to save her Gundam and her lesbian fiancée so that’s good.
Inuyasha The Final Act: Inuyasha and co. are still soaking in Kikyo’s death and Koga gets an admittedly nice sendoff where he gets to leave on good terms with Kagome as well as get enough out of a rise out of Inuyasha to snap him out of his post-Kikyo coma and get him to resolve to make Koga’s sacrifice worthwhile. I like how Koga intentionally says the most triggering shit just to piss him off at this point like he’s really become self-aware as a character and knows what his role is. Also as another character that embodies the ‘the power to achieve your dreams is inside you’ moral of the story he started out seeking the jewel to obtain the power to unite the wolf demon tribes and ends up so strong that losing his jewel shards is basically just a minor inconvenience and ends up in a relationship that does in fact unite the fractured parts of the tribes. Meanwhile Sesshomaru is talking to his mom about trying to master Meidou Zangetsuha and ends up getting Kohaku and Rin dragged into the underworld during the training. I feel like Sesshomaru’s mom is such wasted potential like she has so little screentime and is basically a plot device they could’ve done so much more with. Once she reveals that Rin can’t be revived again by the Tenseiga Sesshomaru’s grief and compassion evolves both the healing and the meidou side of Tenseiga so he can purify a hundred souls as it was originally stated and create a much larger Meidou Zangetsuha, though Rin still has to be brought back with Mommymaru’s necklace of convenience. It’s really funny that Jaken takes it upon himself to be Sesshomaru’s emotion translator at this point since he knows he’s stoic enough not to cry when Rin dies despite wanting to and also won’t  thank his mom for saving her despite being thankful. Last but not least she tells Kohaku he also can’t be saved by Tenseiga in case people were starting to think that now that he and Sesshomaru are together, apparently you only get one free get out of death free card regardless of the source so yeah. Inuyasha’s group make it their new mission to hunt down and protect Kohaku so they can figure out what to do now that Naraku has 99.9% of the jewel.
Castlevania: So I’mma be honest, this is where the Internal Vampire politics get kinda frustrating, like I’ve had it in the back of my head that all this infighting may just be a way to ruin Dracula’s otherwise impregnable plan and have a heroic victory while both evil sides are fighting each other and I’m still worried about that considering we’ve spent more time with them than with Trevor this season but in this episode we even find out that all the shit Carmilla wants to do Dracula would’ve just let her do anyway like he doesn’t give a shit, she wants to usurp his armies and the one move that she’s been gunning for since she walked in the door they’re just like ‘sure go nuts’ and the planning of the past like three episodes has basically been for that. I’m getting ahead of myself, Trevor’s group stuff first since we actually make some progress on that this episode. Basically Alucard gives Sypha the reverse speech that Trevor gave her last time about how he’s a dick and they can’t really trust him and like 75% of this show at this point is untrustworthy vampires telling people they can’t trust people. Sypha wisely asserts they’re both morons and they’ve gotta suck it up and get to world-saving or else everyone’s fucked. But yeah back on Carmilla’s weird warpath they don’t know Godbrand’s dead and Isaac is called by Hector to get him to sign off on going to Braila and get in on the Carmilla cult. Isaac is not down for Carmilla but he is for the Braila plan since it means everyone can shut up about it and Carmilla can stop whining so the politics of it don’t functionally matter, like it’s been such a long fight for this and it doesn’t functionally matter because they just do it anyway. Granted Isaac does it because it means their traitors are all in one place with a name and a face and Hector does it because everyone that talks to Carmilla is like ‘Carmilla is always going on about how she doesn’t trust or respect anyone but I’M DIFFERENT, I’M THE SPECIAL ONE’ like Godbrand was a fucking moron so that was fine but geez she’s not even being seductive enough for them to be thinking with their dicks they’re just idiots, she’s not even good at the manipulation considering if she’d just asked Dracula to do it he’s so done at this point he prolly would’ve. She doesn’t even bother to pretend this was Hector’s independent idea and follows him into the room coaching him and shit. Like the only functional thing this does is make Carmilla the Commander in Chief for this fight for… some reason, and like it’s not even a good argument because the two sides are ‘do something’ and ‘do nothing’ and Carmilla has the balls to be all ‘haha now you’re in too deep Hector so I don’t have to pretend to like you anymore’ like BITCH AS LEAST WAIT TILL YOU ACTUALLY HAVE THE REINS like holy shit all you did was convince Dracula to do something he wasn’t all that adverse to doing in the first place you’re not exactly Sosuke Aizen and she has this weird girl power bent to some of her speeches and I’d really rather girls just do the badass girl power thing instead of talking about how girly and empowered they are all the time. Long story short I don’t really like Carmilla and this plot had a really weird end to this section of the season for basically taking up half the runtime. Meanwhile, actual girl power girl Sypha found a way to trap Castlevania in one place as long as she can jerry-rig an ending to the spell that’s like 80% done but she doesn’t have a lot of time because the castle just showed up like… five minutes ago.
Jujutsu Kaisen: It’s Mahito versus Nobara time and apparently Mahito’s clone can’t transfigure souls and can only do the Clayface body warping shit and Nobara actually figures this out and uses the clone’s body as a substitute Straw Doll like she did with the other guy’s arm cause semantically the clone is basically Mahito’s arm and she wrecks him up from long distance, saving Yuji from an ambush in the process and giving him the opportunity to beat the shit out of Mahito while he’s stunlocked. Rather than keep going through that shit, Mahito employs the Joestar Family’s Secret Technique and books it the fuck out of there. The two Mahitos actually meet up and switch, the real one attacking Nobara while Yuji beats the other one’s head in. Mahito gives Nobara’s face a quick tap and isn’t sure if he killed her, like this whole exchange is excruciatingly vague about whether she’s dead or not but we jump straight into her backstory which isn’t a good sign. It’s basically a fleshed-out version of the story she told in the beginning of the series. I feel like this happens a lot where characters in long-running series have simple backstories at the beginning and then have a secondary supplemental flashback to beef up the tragedy or reframe the original flashback, half the cast of One Piece has done this at this point but for Nobara it’s an interesting retelling of her story through the eyes of her friends and giving a ‘this is your life’ type deal about who she’s loved and why she’s done what she’s done that gives a lot better of an idea of who she is than her original introduction. But yeah her eye fucking explodes which is weirdly not how we’ve seen Mahito’s powers work anywhere else but it was just a light tap while he was in a hurry and maybe her energy resisted it or something. Given that and the vagueness where even Mahito’s not sure if it was enough to kill her I’m tempted to say she’s not dead because usually you don’t want to be ambiguous about that shit unless you’re gearing up for a big return but as far as I know the manga’s already fighting Sukuna at this point and she’s yet to make a comeback so who fucking knows.
Delicious in Dungeon: After Laios’s sword gets busted he tells the story of how he got it fighting a bunch of living armor in the dungeon and how he fucked up and died the first time, confirming that death does indeed have no consequences which explains Marcille’s dialogue in the first episode and why no one seems too worried about rushing to get Falin. Still I’d say if death has no consequences in your series that’s something you’d want to establish right away because that is kind of an investment breaker, something like how DBZ put limits on the dragon balls at first and made loopholes harder so death isn’t just meaningless like it is in the Buu Saga. Still I kinda like this episode since it’s mainly focused on one thing and the food stuff doesn’t get in the way of the storytelling too much. They manage to sneak past the living armor colony and Laios fights Ornstein and it turns out it’s a bunch of mollusks living in the layers of the armor and doing weird goopy Alphonse Elric shit. They cook them and Laios gets Ornstein’s sword but it has a mollusk living inside it still so he’s basically got a living weapon which is pretty neat.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End: Frieren confronts Aura and surprisingl the Autistic Elf Power Hour has its second encounter with Living Armor this week, what’re the odds? Aura basically has the Millenium Scales except instead of summoning a demon to eat a Musuem Curator she weighs their power level and just instantly controls anyone weaker than her with the caveat that if someone stronger than her shows up she just automatically gets controlled instead. I’m kinda sad this means Aura doesn’t actually have a demon army like this was just a plot by four guys and not a whole organized force but I guess it’s fine. She uses an anti-spell spell to dispel the control instead of blasting nameless husks into the ground and desecrating their corpses because Himmel yelled at her last time for disrespecting the dead. Aura asks her why she cares what a corpse thinks and oh it is ON now. Meanwhile Fern and Stark are preparing for Stark to book it out of dodge and try and get Frieren back to fight the other two demons when they get caught in an ambush by Blood Sephiroth and the little girl. Turns out the little girl’s powers are Unlimited Blade Works/Sharingan shenanigans where she can create a weapon and mimic a fighting style by watching it enough and she’s just so happened to have copied Eisen’s style during the first war and decks Stark with his own moves but better. Meanwhile it seems Fern’s ability is Quick Draw and she can just fire off spells crazy rapid and puts the push on Blood Sephiroth in a really cool fight that creates literal fireworks. Stark takes Eisen’s words of “Just don’t die, stupid” to heart and does that thing from Samurai Champloo where if you leave yourself wide open enough it leaves the enemy wide open for their counterattack and destroys the little girl so yay, two down two to go.
Vinland Saga: War has reached Ketil’s farm and he’s got about 300 farners with pitchforks versus Canute’s 100 Jommvikings and Royal Theigns so yeah it’s basically the coughing baby versus the hydrogen bomb. Luckily Thorfinn’s met up with Leif and Leif’s a fucking chad and agrees to take on all of Thorfinn’s extra baggage he’s gathered over the past season and transport Arnheid out of there while the fighting’s going on. Snake tells his men that Ketil is a fraud and was never a war hero because he knew the guy his name was actually based on and came to him for help but at the same time he feels indebted to the family that’s taken care of him all this time and it’s really funny to watch his speech about how Ketil’s a fraud and not worth dying over right as he goes out to die for him fires his men up more than anything, like actions really do speak louder than words. Ketil’s kinda bought into his own hype at this point and isn’t listening to the dozens of people telling him he’s going into a meatgrinder and yeah it’s a fucking massacre, I imagined Thorfinn would be more upset watching this or trying to actively broker peace talks but I guess he’s got other shit on his plate right now since Arnheid’s on death’s door and got her ghost husband’s permission to go say her last goodbyes. Meanwhile Thorgil’s just gonna pop out of the ocean buck naked with a sword and try and cut Canute’s head off behind enemy lines so that’s… a plan I guess. I have no clue how he intends to get out of there even if he succeeds but okay, you do your naked regicide.

In your opinion, how to you think Setsuna got her mokomoko? Do you think it may have been apart of Sesshomaru's own mokomoko lol or he had one made for her? I like to think that she is able to make her own or it grew(don't know if its possible though), but was wondering what your thoughts behind the mystery of her mokomoko. Also wondering what your thoughts as to what a mokomoko is in general. Some say it's a live parasite.
Outoftomorrow:      I always figured the mokomoko on Sesshoumaru, Inukimi and the Inu no Taishou were all fur ruffs and part of them. Because they appeared on them in full dog form too-in the same places they are in their humanoid forms.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for where Setsuna got hers---I haven’t the slightest clue. Clearly it’s NOT a part of her like it is for the other full inu youkai of her family...and I don’t even know why she wears it--seeing as she knows so very little about her father, or general family anyway.     Perhaps Kohaku gave her an actual boa--in honor of her father, since he traveled with Sesshoumaru and Rin for a while...?       Anyway--those are my thoughts on the mokomoko.

Things in my fanfic I feel like oversharing cause I have a compulsive need to:
I originally had a whole side story planned on how Rin, Kohaku and Hisui became vampires but I decided to scrap it. Partly because I love this characterization of Rin that I have and the idea of writing out her traumatic experience isn’t something I want to do. That would be just a big chunk of trauma porn and I don’t want to make readers uncomfortable (or myself).
There will be backstory to their turnings though. It will be explained.
Towa and Setsuna are still SessKagu twins and do have human nights. But their ears are pointed cause they would look cooler cause I said so.
Confirmed couples for this fic are as followed: established InuKag, SessKagu, MirSan (slight, but it’s potent to the story) and RikuRin {I will explain}
Kohaku does have a love interest but he’s currently healing from his relationship with Shiori and his LI is respectful.
Hisui is the oldest of the four kiddos, the absolute mom friend and his only weakness is when Moroha gives him puppy eyes. He can’t say no to them. He has tried and failed.
Moroha is second oldest cause she was born about a year after Sango’s disappearance.
The Tuna twins were born months later, and Setsuna hates that she’s the literal baby of the group.
All four of them are 18-19 in physical appearance and also mentally. They may be close to 500 years old but they’re all college aged with a bit more brain cells.
On that note, Towa is the only one of them to have actively gotten her college education. She studies in the States. She dragged Hisui along her second semester there and the two attend Duke University at the start of the fic.
Moroha is taking college courses online but she also has shrine maiden duties since she helps her great-grandpa and grandma run the Higurashi shrine.
Setsuna doesn’t give a shit. It keeps her from spending time with Kohaku (who is her uncle, mentor and second father figure)
Rin thinks it’s cute.
On the topic of the slightly older kiddos.
Because Sango literally was only 22 when she disappeared, I played around with idea I’d having Kohaku be physically older than her.
So he’s 26 while Rin is 23, the same age as KinGyo. Riku is physically 25
On the subject of Rin and Riku being a romantic item, they were originally going to be friends to budding lovers to enemies who hate fuck while mutually pining for each other but I did not feel up for writing that dynamic. Too toxic and irritable.
Instead, Rin is the personification of ‘looks like a cinnamon, can kill you’. A big inspiration for her characterization is Yor from Spy x Family. But she takes strongly after her mama Kagura and won’t hesitate to curse someone out.
Riku and Rin were friends before anything. Their friendship is what lead to her being kidnapped and cursed by Zero. I’m still working out those kinks on how it caused vampirism.
Riku defected to Sesshomaru’s side after Rin was cursed. They didn’t start a relationship until years down the line.
Towa still has the silver pearl in her eye, Setsuna still has her gold pearl. Moroha wears her red pearl around her neck like a pendant.
Also, the girls’s hair does the Ghibli puff. Moroha’a hair is wavy like how Kagome’s was in the earlier manga so it’s adorable.
On the subject of character physical changes: Moroha’s eyes are more brown with a gray hint while Towa’s eyes are crimson. Setsuna retains her looks but their red streaks are dyed in honor of their mother.
Moroha gives Hisui blood. But he makes her promise it’s not unless it’s dire.
Kohaku, Rin and Hisui can go days without blood but no longer than six. If it’s been to long, their eyes turn spider lily red and they start to go into a feral state.
KinGyo are featured more in the later half of part 2. This fic idea is long but I am taking my time to write and work it out. But the Goldfish twins are featured.
Kin’u helps run the Higurashi shrine while Gyokuto has been taking care of the demon slayer village. Sesshomaru made it so the land was gifted to her family. So the cover story is it was in the family for years. She has a small weapons’ workshop and works with guns. She also handles demon slaying in Japan while the kiddos are away.
One of them is a lesbian, I’m still deciding which one.
Kohaku and Shiori almost had a child. But they decided against it because they weren’t how Kohaku’s vampirism would take in terms of genetics, since he’s still alive.
Shiori died during the Taisho era. Her death hurt mostly Setsuna and Kohaku.
Shippo and Soten took over taking care of the hanyo village.
Kohaku works as Sesshomaru’s informant. He’s actively looking for the Four Perils and Zero, and has always been just a step behind them.
It’s actually how he met Yuichiro (his love interest), who is human.
InuKag run a flower shop. Kagome wanted to open one in remembrance of her friends. She named it after Sango.
This whole story is going to take place from 2010 to 2014 😅

So the fact that "chronologically" Rin is 32 and shiori is "almost 30" means that in the 18 years since the final act, shiori was 12 or younger.
Tumblr media
Meaning Rin would of had to be OLDER than 12 and the SAME age or OLDER than kohaku who was confirmed in canon to be 11 in the og series.
He is 11 and she is apparently OLDER than him given the statement from hny. They had to explicitly add "she MUST HAVE BEEN 18" when she gave birth. Not even a positive she WAS, but a guess as to "somewhere around that age maybe?" This is what 18/22 year old Rin looks like btw⬇️ That supposedly an "adult"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For her to be 32 that means that at this point when we see her in the orange kimono she is the SAME or OLDER than kohaku beside her who is 11 for sure. Which is hilarious given that RT always draws kids around the same age also the same size.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
That girl there? Who is the size of a grown man's PALM? 12ish.
6 months with sesshomaru, three year timeskip, then in 4 years she gave birth? Less than 8 years. She has to be 11 or older for that timeline to work.
Setsuna at 10, kagome at 15 (both confirmed)... And I guess Rin at 15 too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They DESTROYED the original series. They retconned the original lore, their own made up lore and made a CHILD the "mother" and covered it up in the most unbelievably shitty lie. She doesn't act like a mother. She doesn't even LOOK like a mother. The show creators CONFIRMED she wasn't mother material, looked too young, and they instructed the VA to sound like her child self. She is a CHILD.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They even explicitly compare her to a young teen, the villian calls her out as a child, the other villian calls her a girl not woman, her own DAUGHTER asks why she looks so young.
The girl she's compared to? A 14 year old half breed. They could have compared Rion to her daughters who are ALSO 14 year old half breeds but no. They compared a mother to a CHILD. Because she is one!
And also, what romance? What relationship does she have with their father? According to those involved? None. RT confirmed he was a parental figure to her. They KEPT who the mother was going to be from her when she designed the twins. The others involved said He doesn't love her. He won't stick around. She was "an experiment" and that sesshomaru is "far from love". He didn't honor her wishes. He treats her like she's... A CHILD. And as an "adult" she has even less agency and Independence than she did in the original series.
SessRin at this point is a straight up horribly presented lie, an embarrassment to the inuyasha fandom, and blatant pedophilia.
I could go on but at this point I'd be beating a dead horse. Or dead Rin. She's on death #3 or 4 now anyway...
She deserved far better. They stripped that girl into nothing for a quick cash grab that was poorly written and animated and had no emotional impact. Absolutely shameful.

"Sesshomaru was just a friend to Rin"
Sesshomaru being a father / authority figure to Rin throughout the ENTIRE Inuyasha series:
Episode 44. Kaijinbo's Evil Sword: When Sesshomaru lifts Goshinki's head with one arm, Rin starts screaming excitedly, like the little girl she is. Then Sesshoumaru tells her to keep quiet, so she immediately obeys. Here we see how much authority Sesshomaru has over her. And we'll see it over and over again, as this is the way most of their interactions are: he orders and she obeys.
Tumblr media
Episode 45. Sesshomaru Wields Tokijin: When Sesshomaru senses someone's presence (Kagura) he orders Rin to keep still. And she is so young she understands it literally, so she stands right where she is.
Tumblr media
It is only when Sesshomaru has finished talking to Kagura (another adult) that he tells Rin she can move again. And she obeys immediately. Again, Sesshomaru and Rin's interactions are those of an adult in authority over a child he cares for.
Tumblr media
Episode 52. The Demon's True Nature: I love this scene. When Sesshomaru returns from stopping Inuyasha (who had turned into a full demon), Rin cheerfully welcomes him, as she always does when he arrives. And he asks Rin if she has been good. And she's so young she even includes Ah-Un in her answer (who, by that time, has become her watchdog).
This scene makes me think of a father who returns from his job and is greeted by his daughter, whom he left with the babysitter (Jaken) and asks her if she has been good. For me, this scene completely establishes Sesshoumaru and Rin as father and daughter. I can't imagine two "friends" interacting like this.
Tumblr media
Episode 66.  Naraku's Barrier - Kagura's Decision: This is another scene that reminds me of a father taking care of his daughter. Rin stays behind because she wish upon a star, so Sesshoumaru tells her to walk along with everyone, like any parent would. Once again, Rin immediately obeys.
Tumblr media
Episode 79.  Jaken's Plan To Steal The Tetsusaiga: Sesshomaru listens to Rin's stomach and encourages her to look for food on her own (To me, this seems like a father trying to encourage independence in his daughter). And she, again, says “all right” without question.
Tumblr media
But Sesshomaru doesn't send her alone, he orders Jaken (the babysitter) to go with her and help her, and they take Ah-Un, so she doesn't get tired of walking. Sesshomaru actually cares about her safety and well-being, like any parent would.
Tumblr media
Throughout the entire series, Sesshomaru acts the same way a father figure would: he provides protection, gives her instructions, makes it easy for her to find food, gives her clothes, shoes, a safe place, a babysitter, and even a pet. In a way, Sesshomaru gives her a family and he continues to care for her even years later. Rin goes from being a child who suffered abuse and malnutrition to looking happy and healthy. A grown man who does all this for a child, cannot be seen as someone who, at least in part, supported the raising of said child?
Tumblr media
At the end, we finally find out how much Sesshomaru loves Rin (who has always been just a 7 year old girl). So, Would it be logical to think that someone who is only a “companion” can feel that love? For me, if an adult does all this for a child and it´s also clear that he loves that child, the healthiest thing would be to think that he sees her as his own child. Not as a future wife. I don't understand how anyone could have seen a potential romance in all of this.
Tumblr media
By the way, I love this scene, because they also include Kohaku, another human child that Sesshomaru cares for, indicating the way both children have influenced him and how through them he, who has had "problems" with his own father figure, can take on that role and grow and develop tremendously as a person and as a character.

Note
Kohaku is secretly amused whenever his wife Rin tries to give Sesshomaru "dating" advice cause we all know, she'd definitely do that). Kohaku gets the impression that the closer he and Rin get to becoming a middle aged human couple, the more they gradually start treating the eternally young Sesshomaru like their cutely pround, grumpy teenaged adoptee. Their kid even sees him like an older brother too, and Sesshou's even started teaching the kid swordsmanship.

They are a lovely family 💕 Thank you anon!

This one anti seems obsessed with arguing with me non stop. This goes back to what I said about invincible ignorance.
1. That synopsis comes from a fan wiki. Any idiot can edit a fan wiki that is not a valid source.
Tumblr media
2. In the this panel Sesshomaru delivered a kimono to Rin. They never talk, see each other or even interact. That’s not visiting. And this occurs 3 years after the end of Inuyasha.
Tumblr media
3.That’s a panel from when Root head attacks the village. He comes their to inform Kohaku about root head.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again he never talks to or interacts with Rin. Rin only sees Sesshomaru by accident. That’s not visiting.
My parents are divorced. My dad despite living in another state. Would visit me and talk to me on the phone. When he visited me we would play together and have long conversations. He would show interests in my hobbies and encourage me to do well in school. That is what we call parenting.
What Sesshomaru does here is not “parenting". He doesn’t talk to her, interact with her, or even look at her. What he shows here is not parental affection. But a vague curiosity. “Like what are these humans and why do they do these weird human things.” He is only just beginning to understand what it’s like to care about others beside himself. He constantly keeps his distance. Because for him love and compassion are alien emotions. According to the Inuyasha guide book.
Tumblr media
Its amazing how many fans missed the whole point of Sesshomaru’s character. He was never supposed to be Rin’s “father figure”. He was supposed to be a supernatural being learning human emotions from observing them in a human child. His motivations weren’t “Rin is my daughter and I need to protect her”. But “Wait humans don’t always want to kill and dominate each other? How strange!”
The fact that curiosity is his primary motivator is explained in the guidebook .
Tumblr media
So no he was never Rin’s “father figure”. His initial interest in Rin was based in curiosity. And he gradually learned how to feel emotions for others, when he was around her. For Sessshomaru parental affection would have been an alien concept.

The freaking way the Higurashi family contacts you sometime after you managed to get back to your era because of a message Kagome left years ago before she vanished through the well permanently, so you travel to Japan, and while you're in the middle of a conversation two half-demons burst into the house declaring you're their mother.
Time travel shenanigans are rough. Irene is much confused. Maria is both baffled and impressed, because Airi and Towa are very much obviously Irene's children, which means she definitely ends up woo'ing Sesshomaru at some point, but also w h a t.
Sota is just, "Yup. Another day in the life. Welcome to the Higurashi shrine."
Irene is vehemently convinced they have her confused with someone else, because Sesshomaru would never. Especially not with a human. (But he does, eventually, and she's the mom, and she's hitting her head against a tree later upon realizing Airi and Towa weren't mistaken at all.)
YEET!

Sesshomaru and Rin: This Is a Set, Do Not Separate
My big issue with the “father-daughter” head-canon for Sesshomaru and Rin isn't that it exists at all, it's that it’s ultimately an excuse to create a sort of perpetual inequality between them. I mean, I think it’s clear that, despite their vast difference in age and life experience, Rin and Sesshomaru are meant to be something like soul-mates. They have a very profound emotional/spiritual connection to one another. An unbreakable bond. A unique, rent-free, fully-furnished space in each others hearts and minds with central heating and a nailed-down welcome mat.
Forcing them into the relationship of father and daughter takes that straight line between them and renders it uneven, putting the two at odds with each other. Eventually, this is used as an excuse to separate them in a more permanent way (because children are meant to “move on” from their parents).
And this is my big issue.
As I’ve stated numerous times before, I don’t think Sesshomaru and Rin’s relationship needed to or should’ve become romantic.
(Although I do think the development of romantic attraction was pretty damn close to inevitable, at least from Rin’s end, because I mean, come on—)
Tumblr media
But that doesn’t mean I think they don’t belong together.
Because I do think Sesshomaru and Rin belong together, even if only platonically. They’re not meant to be separated and Rin isn’t meant to spend the rest of her life away from Sesshomaru in that village, married to Kohaku or some random villager instead of traveling around with the one person who cares about her and understands her more than anyone else ever could. And the same goes for Sesshomaru. Rin matters the most to him. Whether she’s his literal wife or not doesn’t take away from that.
But making her his daughter kind of does. Because it turns Rin from a spiritual partner he’s meant to spend his life with into a subsidiary he’s meant to release into the world. To find a replacement for him to build another (safer, more unexceptional, less problematic) life where he’s merely a peripheral figure, someone who shows up around holidays and when there’s danger, and not the profound, mythological, kindred, irreplaceable other half of her entire existence.
Sesshomaru and Rin aren't father and daughter. They’re a girl and her dog. They’re companions for life and they’ll stay that way.

So Yashahime has finally tried to explain some of Sesshomaru’s dumbass behavior in season 1. It was quite an effort, and I admire that… but this story already started off bad, and there’s only so much course correction you can do.
First of all, never going to be ok with Rin’s age. That’s just not going to happen. Sesshomaru should have stayed a father figure. Let Rin grow up and have kids with someone else. He can just be there to protect her and make sure she’s happy.
Secondly, having him seal away Inuyasha and Kagome out of fear that they would kill Kirinmaru and Zero, therefore killing Rin… sure, makes sense. BUT. You’re telling me Sesshomaru couldn’t just talk to Inuyasha, like, hey bro, so listen, I know you’re going to want to kill Kirinmaru and Zero, because they want to kill your daughter and nieces, but do me a solid, and just don’t, because if you do, you’d kill Rin. What is Inuyasha going to do, say nah bro, guess Rin has to die, sorry?? I don’t fucking think so. Sure, he and Kagome will want to protect their daughter at all costs, but at the cost of Rin? They would most definitely start looking for ways around that. That’s what they did when Kohaku had a jewel shard in his back, keeping him alive. Instead, no one’s talking to anyone, Rin is already saying let me go if it means our daughters can live, but Sesshomaru isn’t about to just let that shit happen, so he comes up with this crazy ass plan, and ruins Inuyasha and Kagome’s lives without telling them what’s happening or why.
I just keep looking at that happy ending at the end of Inuyasha and thinking… it should have just ended there. This is too much. If we wanted to do more story in this world, fine, but don’t make it at the cost of that happy ending. I cannot get over the fact that Inuyasha and Kagome’s happy ending was stolen from them. After all the shit they went through.

I was thinking about Setsuna's bond with Rin and how it seemed to come out of no where. This is one of those situations where just a tiny bit more evidence would have made it make sense, and it could have been very powerful. The basic plot details are there, and while I have no problem filling in gaps -- good stories leave those gaps for the viewer/reader -- sometimes the gaps are just a little too large.
Here are the things that make Setsuna's love for Rin make sense:
1. She was raised by Shiori. She is used to a mother figure more than a father figure, though I would argue that Kohaku became a kind of father figure to her.
2. She bonded with Moe fairly quickly.
3. She loves music. Setsuna and Rin have that bond (I am waiting impatiently for the mother to sing her lullaby to both her daughters).
4. She lived with Kaede in her mother's village, in her mother's home.
It's the last part that would have made all the difference to my believing in Setsuna's immediate bond with Rin. At some point, SOMEONE must have told Setsuna she was Rin's daughter. They must have been excited to meet her. She knew she was in her mother's village (Sesshomaru's letter made that clear). Surely Kaede, Sango, the twins, Hisui...someone would tell her about her mother, right? They loved Rin. Setsuna would have seen her mother's kimonos or heard stories about her, right? If they had shown a microsecond of this, it would have served the narrative so much better.
Setsuna didn't remember Towa, but her memories were intact from that point forward. Why would she never mention their mother to Towa...even something as simple as "I'm going back to the demon-slayer village, but you need to stay here with Kaede. This was our mother's home." It beggars belief that Towa was SURPRISED when Kaede told Towa that she knew her mother. Kohaku never mentioned Sesshomaru or Rin to Setsuna? Why? Is it all part of the black-box mystery, so the whys don't matter? But they do, because even taking into account that people might be reticent to talk about the past, it doesn't make sense to completely ignore these relationships and connections.
All of my complaints with Yashahime could have been resolved with giving just a few more seconds to the family and their background instead of shoving so many new characters into the narrative without addressing any of the backstory.
