Dilbaro - O beloved (Henry Cavill x Indian Reader one shot)

A/N: So one of my friends got engaged last year and it got me in a massive wedding mood. So I decided to write this one shot of Henry marrying his Indian bride in Udaipur. Hope you all enjoy this, likes, comments and feedback appreciated.

3rd July 2019, on a scorching hot summer day Laila Kapadia and Henry Cavill were ready to tie the knot in front of their family and friends. Udaipur, India was where Henry proposed to Laila over a year ago and which also is the destination for the wedding.  Laila was Indian, born in England and her soon to be husband, Henry, was English, born in Jersey and regardless of the two cultures and family backgrounds, the whole everyone got on like a house of fire.

Laila yawned, scratching her head as she was woken up by her best friend the maid of honor. She was shoved into the bathroom to brush her teeth and have a shower while the hairdresser arrived. Henry, on the other hand, was finally ready just adjusting his red and gold embroidered sherwani for the last time. He smiled into the mirror seeing how dapper he looked. The wedding was to start in three and a half hours, giving Laila time to get ready and put on her heavy lehenga.

The weather in Udaipur was unbearable, making Henry want to take his sherwani off, sit in his underwear with the AC on. Everything was pinned, tied and knotted together making it a chore to take of and then, later on, put it back on so Henry grabbed a jug of water and some ice and started to drink to cool himself down. Laila, on the other hand, had just stepped out of the shower feeling refreshed. She slipped into her underwear and applied her body lotion before sitting on the chair letting the hairdresser do her hair.

Laila smiled, her heart filled with joy as she was excited to finally be marrying her one true love. This past year had been a long stressful year with her losing her grandmother, moving from Manchester to London. Apart from losing her grandmother, moving to London was great and gave her time to decorate their new home the way they wanted it. Henry had a busy year also, finishing shooting hos latest movie, planning other business adventures and charities he loved to spend time with and help.

Henry downed another glass of water sitting with his brother, dad, best man and his close friends as they all started to eat breakfast. Since dating Laila he has been exposed to a wide range of indian food. Sweet, savory, spicy and bitter and he at first wasn’t sure but as the weeks past his taste buds grew. He ditched the morning coffee for an aromatic cup of Indian chai filled with cinnamon and cardamom. Henry had to explain to everyone what they were eating which was puri and shaak ( deep fried bread with hot potato curry) a famous dish from the Gujarat region which Laila made once a month when it was her time of the month and cravings were on overdrive.

The hairdresser finished Laila’s hair which was tied up in fishtail plait and showed off the brown highlights through her black hair. The makeup artist finally arrived to glam her up before she could put on her outfit and have some food. She was starving and hadn’t eaten much since 10pm last night, still sitting in her chair getting makeup done her friends and family put on some music. They all danced and sung along, Laila joining in singing a few lines trying not to ruin the makeup.

It reached the two-hour mark. At Henry’s household, everyone had finished eating and were all taking pictures and what not before the cars finally arrive. A white Rolls Royce awaited for the groom and his best man while the others sat in a limo heading to the venue first. Henry looked in the mirror one last time, taking a selfie to show his bride later, he downed yet another glass of cold water before leaving the house and stepping into the car with his best friend. Henry leg shook with nervous and excitement through the whole journey to the venue, he could wait to make Laila his bride.

Finally, Laila was in her red and gold velvet lengha, her mum helped her put on the jewellery while her best friend put on her gold encrusted heels on her. Few pictures, selfies and group shots were taken before Laila’s mum handed her a box. Inside was her mum’s wedding chain which she wanted Laila to wear today. They cried, hugging one another before her mum put the chain on her smiling happily, overjoyed with the fact her daughter was getting married. After everyone was ready they left for the venue, Laila and her mum rode in a horse carriage to the wedding, it was fairytale like.

The car stopped, Henry looked outside the window smiling at how beautiful and grand the venue looked. Finally, he was going to get married to the girl of his dreams. Stepping out of the car, he looked ahead to the place, it was stunning. He remembered Laila dragging him to the 15th venue they had seen while on the hunt to find the perfect place when they stumbled upon this one,  they both fell in love with it in an instant. Henry put on his sunglasses as the sun shone brightly into his eyes, his best man took a picture of him outside the venue. Walking with his best man they passed a large water fountain, drums getting louder as they walked into the hotel where the wedding was taking place.

People had already arrived, having food, drinks and taking their seats. The guests talked amongst each other as music played in the background. Walking past the reception, dining area Henry was escorted out to the huge garden which was transformed for the wedding. It looked beautiful, gold and red chairs around, tables scattered with roses, and a band playing classical music. Henry smiled seeing the altar. It was a hand carved wooden altar dressed in white and red flowers. Inside was two golden chairs for the couple to sit and four other chairs for both sets of parents.

Smiling he took the scenery in, a tear ran down his face not believing in one hour he was getting married to Laila. Henry's parents walked towards him, giving him a huge hug, taking some pictures with him before giving him some last minute parental advice. Laila was still sitting in the horse carriage taking the long route to the venue, her mum talking to her, telling Laila how proud she is of her. They both had tears in their eyes as they hugged one another.

Laila finally arrived at the venue, everyone had now taken their seats. Henry was sitting at the altar waiting for the music to start and for Laila to walk down. Kuch to hai tujhse raabta ( There is some connection with you) started to play on the loudspeakers, signaling everyone to stand up. Henry was hidden by a long white cloth, as Laila walked through with her uncles next to her. Reaching the altar she stood in front of Henry who was still hidden and waited until the cloth was taken away. The cloth was removed and beaming smiles spread across both their faces. He couldn’t help but grin, mouthing ‘you look gorgeous,’ at her making Laila blush and everyone giggle seeing her face get red.

Flower garlands were exchanged between Laila and Henry before they sat in their seats waiting for the priest to carry on with the ceremony. Finally, it was time to go round the fire seven times. Henry’s dupatta and Laila’s were tied together as they walked around seven times as their family and few friends threw flower petals at them every round. The priest said some last words, making a little joke about keeping each other happy making everyone laugh including the bride and groom.

Now it was time for Laila and Henry to take blessings from both sets of parents. They went to Laila’s parents who grabbed them into a big hug crying at how beautiful they are together. Henry touched her parent’s feet for blessings letting them know he will be there for her no matter what. Then they slowly walked to Henry’s parents who hugged them Laila touching their feet for blessings.

Henry linked his hand with hers, holding onto her tightly as they walked to another part of the garden to take some wedding photos. The professional photographer followed them to the spot which was overlooking the pool and rest of Udaipur. They took a bunch of photos, each one Henry pecked her lips, over the moon he married his soul mate.

In the last photo, Henry wrapped his arms around Laila, his body on hers as they stared into one another’s eyes. Smiles appeared on there faces, eyes sparkling and Laila tiptoed to finally reach his lips and kiss them. Photos were done, now the couple had 30 minutes to breathe and be with one another.

“Hi Mrs Cavill,” Henry said, staring into his wife’s eyes with pure joy.

“Hello Mr Cavill,” Laila beamed giggling into Henry’s lips. It was nice the couple got away for a short time just to be with one another before going back to eat.

“Babe I got a surprise, here open the envelope,” he said, handing her a red envelope waiting to see her reaction when she finds out where they are going on a honeymoon.

“Is this where we are going,” Laila’s voice broke, eyes welling up as she slowly teared up the envelope. Inside were two-holiday tickets to Thailand, it was listed as one of Laila favourite destinations to visit. For three weeks they will be visiting Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Puckett, Henry planning every detail of the holiday.

He smiled, moving closer to his wife and wiped a few tears that trickled down her face. Leaning down Henry kissed her lips ever so softly, before letting it get heated, tongues exploring each other’s mouths.  They rested heads against one another, overjoyed with happiness after years of being together Laila and Henry were finally married.

“Purple ranger, Henry where you been, people are waiting for you,” Laila’s best friend shouted, running up to where the couple were standing. She embraced them into a huge hug, Henry laughing at the fact his wife was called purple ranger since a little girl as she loved power rangers and the colour purple.

“We’re coming, just give us a few minutes,” Laila giggled holding onto her husband’s hand wanting to be alone with him a tad bit longer. She knew after the reception tonight they would be flying to Thailand for their honeymoon, but as a photographer she wanted to capture pictures of herself and Henry at this beautiful spot one last time before going inside to eat.

Laila waited until her best friend was out of sight before she kissed her husband roughly. They took some selfies together looking stunning in there Indian outfits. Henry kissed her again before looking down at her henna stained hands searching for his name among the intricate designs. He kissed her hands slowly exploring each finger, thumb, and palm to find where his name was. Laila giggled, watching him search sedulously. It took him awhile but he spotted it on the side of her first finger, his name, inside of a heart.

“I love your mehndi,” Henry spoke softly kissing her fingers, always fascinated with the intricate designs, he remembered his mother and sister having mehndi on their hands for a family wedding. “Wish you could keep it on all the time,” he said making Laila laugh

“Maybe I’ll need to keep an in house mehndi artist at home to forever do my hands,” she teased giggling at him biting down on her lip. Laila adored him for embracing her Indian culture, ready to have this giant Indian wedding and wear full Indian clothing. She embraced his English culture too by visiting his family for Easter and eating authentic British food from his mum.

“Can be arranged,” Henry chuckled leaning in to kiss her. Grabbing her hand in his they walked back inside to eat after hearing her stomach grumble the past few minutes. Henry and Laila walked inside the venue to the huge banquet hall where everyone was eating, talking and dancing to music from the live band.

They talked and hugged a few people on their way to the table every so often, one of them being teased and told an old story about their childhood making their faces turn red with embarrassment. Lunch was finally over, speeches had been said and a few group photos were taken before the couple finally walked out of the venue to the car waiting to take them to the place they were staying. Laila grabbed his face as soon as they left the venue and were long gone from family and friends. She kissed him hard, biting down on his bottom lip enjoying his stubble graze against her skin.

“We have hours before we have to get ready, let’s test the showers,” Laila giggled into his lips as she spoke, making Henry wink at her telling the driver to speed up so he wouldn’t have a boner forming.

Second doctor : nuts and caramel but Also he smells like grass and nature when he wears his fur coat.

Third doctor : In our headcanon Three would smell like warm cocoa, Indian tea, cinnamon, cardamom and ginger mabey Old clothes.... somethimes it has that special smellI and i think he would also smell faintly like coffee and tea.

this is such an odd question, but what do you think peter parker would smell like? so like,,, what do you reckon his clothes/body spray smells like (this is so weird to ask, but im writing and i have no idea how to describe the smell of his sweater)

I feel like this is a subjective question, you know? because usually when you’re attracted to someone their scent is something that doesn’t matter, because your brain kind of creates their own scent for them.

Describing women’s scent is easier, you know? Roses, vanilla and marshmallow. Sweet things. Describing men always has to be bold, and masculine and sexy.

But Peter Parker? He smells like spring. Like a sunny day. I feel like he smells fresh but sweet, even sexy, at the same time, his clothes smell clean but I feel like he uses a lotion that maybe reminds you of a forest but of lemon, at the same time. It’s like recognizably his. Maybe some other people use the same cologne, but Peter smells like a sunny day. Freshly cut grass, maybe wood. Either that or vanilla, with pepper and cardamom, and the strong scent of mandarins. You know? It’s a scent that makes you turn around to see who’s walking by. 🍑✨💖 Treat Yo Self Attraction Spell

Hello lovelies! I recently made a sachet to aid me in having the confidence to flirt, but realized I need to attract people in order to get the chance to flirt. This spell invokes the goddess Aphrodite, and includes pampering the heck out of yourself, which she loves! Here are the ingredients: 1 pink candle Rosemary Catnip Cardamom 1 peach A sigil for attraction Rose oil Strawberry incense A face mask (I used Shea Moisture's rose oil complex to keep with the pink theme) Pink nail polish Your favorite lotion (I used coconut oil) Your favorite perfume/cologne A hair brush & tie Your favorite music Towels and water That's a lot, I know. Bear with me. So put the herbs and oil on your candle (I personally like to use dried ones and make holes in the candles so I can stuff them in, it's cleaner) and light the incense. Turn on your favorite music and sit with the candle and really ground yourself, infusing it with your personal power. As you listen to your music, try to visualize different scenarios. You're turning heads when you walk into a room, or the person you just met is captivated by your beauty and personality, or people you see every day beginning to notice you. I listened to the Classical Romance Spotify playlist and imagined I was at a party, and I took everyone's breath away, but I had the luxury of choosing which person to lock eyes with and introduce myself to. Feel it in your gut that you're gorgeous and irresistible. When that's done, you'll want to carve the sigil into the peach with something pointy, then set it aside. Begin to brush your hair and really enjoy the feeling on your scalp and how soft your locks are. I braided my hair afterwards, hence the tie, but that's optional. Then I took my rose oil mask and put it on, sitting for a while and enjoying the tingling sensation it was giving me. Then I went on to moisturize my whole body with my coconut oil (or lotion), taking the time to really rub it in and enjoy the fragrance and feeling. Then I painted my nails while letting the sound of the music and the smell of the mask and incense. Get immersed in the whole process. Slow down. This is your time to pamper and love yourself. Once my nails were dry, I removed my mask with the water and towel, then applied the coconut oil. I sprayed my favorite perfume, which right now is a scented glitter mist, all over my body (the shine from the coconut oil and the glitter really made me feel ethereal and glowing). Take a bite out of the peach where you drew the sigil and eat from there (once you're done, you can also carry the pit for protection!) Really enjoy the taste and sweetness of the fruit, don't just mindlessly eat like we usually do. Get lost in the flavor. When you feel you are ready, say: "Goddess Aphrodite of love and sensuality, Woman born from foam and sea, I ask that people be attracted to me. Let them notice the beauty that I see in myself, Let me stand out from everyone else, Let them behold me clear and well. I am glowing, I am easygoing, My words are flowing. I am beautiful, I am approachable, I am a shining jewel. I treat myself with kindness, Because I know I am priceless, And so shall everyone else. Men, women, and those in between, They will be attracted to me. This is my will, and harm none, so more it be." Really put passion into your words. Say it like you mean it, and say it however many times you feel you need to. After that, you're done! You may want to leave an offering for our beautiful Aphrodite, which could be anything from a love letter, a drawing, a poem, a letter to her, chocolate, seashells, incense, etc. I hope this helps, and I hope that you all love yourselves very much so that the person you'll attract can love you even more! 💖🍑✨Blessed be!!

Kiki what's you're skincare routine?

Firstly, skincare is different for everyone and I’ve been lucky enough to be genetically blessed with skin that is decent enough on its own. Also I’m not a licensed esthetician or dermatologist. I’m just a housewife with a hobby and experience. 

1. DRINK WATER. ARE YOU DRINKING WATER RIGHT NOW? IF NOT DRINK SOME. WATER IS THE BEST BEVERAGE AND A MAGICAL CURE IF YOU’RE LIKE ME AND HAVE DEHYDRATED YOUR SKIN WITH ICED COFFEE FROM STARBUCKS, ALCOHOL, AND NICOTINE. I LOVE THE TASTE OF JUST PLAIN OLD STILL WATER (not to be confused with Stillwater, the fictional band from Almost Famous or Stillwater the real life Southern rock band) BUT IF YOU LIKE SPARKLING OR FLAVOURED OR SPARKLING FLAVOURED BUY THAT. JUST HYDRATE YOUR SKIN. 

2. Face makeup can clog your pores, even the best of the best can leave traces behind. I’m not going to tell you what kind or how much makeup to wear but I find that not wearing foundation or concealer everyday is better for the skin.If you do this enough then soon your foundation will be your face with moisturizer on it. 

3. REMOVE YOUR MAKEUP!! REMOVE IT!! I DON’T CARE IF YOU SPENT THE ENTIRE NIGHT HAVING A GANGBANG WITH THE ROLLING STONES. TAKE A TRAVEL PACK AND WIPE YOUR MAKEUP OFF WHILE YOU’RE DOING THE WALK OF SHAME OFF THE TOUR BUS AND PATTING YOURSELF ON THE BACK FOR BEING THE FIRST GROUPIE TO GIVE HEAD TO CHARLIE WATTS. I like these from Yes to Coconuts because I found they work the best and are gentle and have a very nice scent to them. They are both vegan and cruelty-free. You can find them just about anywhere WHICH MEANS YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE NOT BUY THEM WHEREVER YOU ARE ON YOUR GANGBANG CLASSIC ROCK BANDS JOURNEY. 

4. Wash your face at least ONCE A DAY. Some people do two. I am usually one of those people. The best way to ensure that you don’t forget is to keep it in your shower. 99% of all face washes say to wet your face first so you’re only making it easier for yourself. I’m a morning shower type of person so it’s nice to get all the grime from when I was asleep especially now that it’s hot out. It also helps you feel extra squeaky clean. You have your life more together. I also will usually wash it at night and I just bring my face wash from my shower caddy to the sink. If I’m wearing face makeup I always make sure to wash my face BECAUSE YOU WANT ALL MAKEUP REMOVE ENOUGH IF DAVE GROHL IS TRYING TO GET DEEP IN YOUR GUTS. THIS WHICH I KNOW IS STEEP IN PRICE IS MY HOLY GRAIL BECAUSE YOU CAN USE IT ON YOUR EYES!!! REMOVE THAT MASCARA AND GRUNGE DRUMMER RESIDUALS. 

5.Exfoliate your face. PLEASE! ALL SKIN TYPES SHOULD BE EXFOLIATING. MY FAVOURITE EXFOLIANT GOT DISCONTINUED BECAUSE FRESH MY HOLY GRAIL BRAND TURNS OUT TO BE JUST AS MUCH AS A SNAKE AS THE BODY SHOP IS WHEN IT COMES TO DISCONTINUING PRODUCTS. This, also by Fresh, is a very good one even if it is not the soy exfoliant. I use it two times a week.  

6. Exfoliate your body! In the summer this is even more important!! You’ll be gleaming!! BODY CARE IS SKIN CARE! IF IT HAS SKIN OVER IT TAKE CARE OF IT!! The Tree Hut ones are the best and are very affordable for how much you’re getting. I love the original shea scent because while not fragrance-free, does not overpower or clash with any body lotion I put on. ALSO THEY ARE SOLD EVERYWHERE SO IF ANGUS YOUNG IS TRYING TO RUN HIS NAILS OVER YOUR LEGS YOU DON’T HAVE AN EXCUSE FOR NOT HAVING SMOOTH LEGS. 

7.  USE A FACE MASK TWO-THREE TIMES A WEEK! I know sheet masks are all en vogue and I have used a Sephora brand sheet mask here and there and find them to be good, the best to me are still the ones that come in jars or tubes. It brings me back fond memories of high school where all the girls would gather around in the bathroom and put on face masks that bought at the drugstore. As a loyal hoe, I like the Fresh rose mask but as a warning, if your skin is stressed or breaking out, it can cause a mild sensation of a burning-like feeling. Sensitive skin types should stay away from this product in my opinion but for everyone else, beauty is pain. 

8. Eye cream! It’s always good to start early but I had an esthetician tell me when I was 20 that at 24 is when to being using eye cream and other products that you might have deemed for an older crowd. At 20 and to this day I still worship the ground she walks on and find that she was right all along. When it comes to eye creams (and anti-aging in general) Kiehl’s is the only option. I use the anti-aging one  but they have so many eye cream options, you can find one to suit your needs. 

9. Moisturizer is a necessity for me. Like I said, I try not to wear foundation all the time but a good moisturizer can give your face that oomph. Kiehl’s obviously and the lightweight cream because I do find that the lightweight one is more than enough for me. This is also anti-aging but they do have a good enough selection for face creams (not as good as their eye creams if you ask me) and you may be able to find a better option. 

10. ALSO AT NIGHT. NOT AS IMPORTANT AS WASHING YOUR FACE TO TAKE OFF MAKEUP BUT IF YOU CAN MANAGE TO STAND UP AND NOT PASS OUT FROM SEX, DRUGS, AND ROCK N ROLL USE THAT ENERGY TO MOISTURIZE WITH A REAL MOISTURIZE RAND NOT...well you know. I use La Mer because it’s perfect and I can afford it. If you’re in Europe, the Nivea cream is quite literally the same thing. If you’re outside of Europe and have no way to access European Nivea products, I do think that the Nivea made in Mexico is a wonderful product but the ingredients are nowhere close to being tic for tac like the one made in Germany. 

11. BODY LOTION FOR GLEAMING SKIN. IF YOU FOLLOWED MY BODY SCRUB ADVICE THEN YOU BETTER BE FOLLOWING UP WITH A LOTION. Jo Malone’s Mimosa and Cardamom body crème has been my body lotion choice for years because I use the cologne and like to have my scents matching. While the body crème is very moisturizing, unless you’re like me and want to have a scent that matches your perfume/cologne or really love one of the scent options, I don’t find the body crème to be that extraordinary. It’s not a product that you should force your nose to be around because it’s worth whatever the smell or cost. 

12. Get a facial (as in the skincare kind but whatever kind if you want) and have an esthetician you worship. I get one every month because I can afford it and have the time.I find that it is worth it but of course we all live different lives and have different economic resources. Do not feel bad if you can only go once a year or never go. They only help, they do not make magic where there wasn’t any already. 

13. If you have a crush on someone and they don’t have a skincare routine, get a new crush.

8 Classic and Modern Men’s Fragrances Tested

Choosing the right fragrance is arguably one of the trickier parts when defining your own style. You want something that works with your personality and matches your look, but also something that just smells, really, really good. These aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive, but it is hard to choose because there are 1) lots of options and 2) different body and skin chemistry factors to consider. Let’s talk about the latter a bit.

Fragrances are a really personal choice because people have different body (specifically, skin) chemistries that can affect how scents interact once you’ve actually applied them. So what might smell great on one person may not necessarily work for the other.

That’s why choosing the right fragrance is a bit of trial and error, so this sample of eight is a good one to start with for some quick first impressions. Some of these are recommendations from you guys, others are ones that looked interesting and were worth a try. With each of the choices, I’ve tried each of these out at least five times just to get a sense of the fragrance, see what I like or don’t like about it, and how it performs on my skin.

1. Guerlain Habit Rouge

This one is a classic fragrance for a reason. It’s unique, easy to recognize and easy to adapt as a signature scent. It was created by Guerlain himself in 1965 originally, but re-orchestrated in 2003. Inspired by male perfumers, this was the very first fragrance just for them – the Habit Rouge name refers to the famous red jackets these male perfumers donned. With that audience in mind, it’s easy to see why this is more of an elegant masculine scent that works across day and night.

The citrus is the first sniff, but it does unfold into this subtle floral and almost powderiness type scent as time goes on. It’s a small part of the scent, for those not a fan of floral and powdery scents, you might want to skip this one. In terms of staying power, it’s not amazing – it lasted about four hours on my skin but it is definitely worth trying if you like classic scents.

2. Floris Elite

This your everyday scent, for sure. Floris has a lot of great scents (the No. 89, in particular) and Elite is no different. A British brand, Floris goes back to the 1730s, their clientele has included famous figures from history like Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein and Florence Nightingale. Floris Elite was introduced in 1979 and named after Lotion Elite, which was an aftershave cream that was first featured in the catalog in 1851.

It’s a fresh green scent, with some mellow woody notes to help round it out. This is one of those classic gentleman’s scent with a little bit of an edge thanks to the grapefruit, lavender, juniper berry, and fir balsam notes. The other bonus? It has really good staying power, lasting about eight hours on my skin, making it a great contender for an everyday scent,

3. Brooks Brothers Classic

Brooks Brother Classic is what that quintessential smell is that every Brooks Brother store has when you walk in. It’s a simple, classic scent that really fits with the brand’s classic aesthetic. It starts with some citrus notes and transitions to jasmine and herbal notes. A classic and refined scent, it’s one of those staples in your collection that you find yourself reaching for a lot. Plus, it’s got longevity, lasting for about eight hours on the skin. Coupled with a reasonable price tag at $42, it’s incredible value for money when looking for your next signature scent.

4. Brooks Brothers New York Gentleman

A floral green scent released in 2008, Brooks Brothers New York Gentleman was developed by perfumer Richard Herpin. When interviewed about his inspiration for the perfume, he stated:

“When they approached me, they said, ‘We want to create a great classic for Brooks Brothers. Something without trend,’” […] “The idea was to create a tension between the fresh top and the base of mystery and comfort,”

This is one of those scents that’s moved into legend status, almost the holy grail of Brooks Brothers fragrances for many. With citrus and vetiver note, there definitely is some push and pull between mystery and comfort as Herpin puts it, but it’s just not quite at the mythical level that New York Gentleman is considered to be. It’s a clean scent, not super powerful and it fades away quite quickly comparatively so making it a weaker choice amongst the others.

5. Aramis

Aramis has been a fan favorite and considered to be a classic male fragrance. It was introduced by Estee Lauder in New York in 1964 and then made available in the UK exclusively at Harrods in 1965. Apparently named after a Turkish root that is renowned for its aphrodisiac qualities (or so says Estee Lauder), it really is a distinctive fragrance.

Scent-wise, it’s super-strong and almost pungent for some, so it’s a bit more of a decisive choice than some of the other more neutral scents we’ve covered. The heavy herbal notes and patchouli give it a retro, older feel. Honestly, it sort of feels like you’re reliving the 70s and early 80s with this one, especially since it’s a long-lasting scent too. While it has its fans, it’s a bit more a statement fragrance rather than an everyday choice.

6. Arquiste Misfit

A niche fragrance company, Arquiste is a personal favorite brand. Inspired by 19th-century bohemians, this scent is all about the evolution of patchouli across the ages and an interpretation of its essence. It has a lot of unique notes that help balance the patchouli and make it a clean and elegant scent. An incredibly rich, complex fragrance, it balances out its strength with a softness that makes it so sexy and intriguing.

And for history buffs out there, each Arquiste perfume, including Misfit, has a short history alongside its description to help contextualize the scent and its inspiration- in this case, patchouli. It’s clear that a lot of thought and detail goes into how the scent is designed and what notes are incorporated, and it really shines through in the way the scent unfolds.

7. Les Élixirs Oud

Les Elixirs is a new fragrance company, describing themselves as an experimental olfactive design and development studio. Their scent Oud is highly concentrated at 20% or higher pure perfume, depending on the scent’s characteristics. This scent in particular, Oud, is absolutely amazing. Strong without being overwhelming, it’s incredibly elegant and sophisticated.

You can really get a sense of the oud and woody characteristics, but it has this light satin feel that keeps it from becoming too much. A great evening fragrance, Oud is one of those that could be used year-round because of the way it balances deep and subtle notes.

8. Brut Classic Scent After Shave

Brut is one of those brands that has been around forever, and has amassed a lot of fame over the years. It’s  often cited as one of the most classic fougeres and has been associated with the likes of Roger Moore and Elvis Presley, among others. One of the reasons why Brut’s popularity has endured is that it’s a classic scent that’s actually affordable.

It’s an incredibly masculine, old-school scent that takes you back a few decades. With notes like sandalwood and basil, it’s one of those timeless scents that might remind you of grandpa – but in a good way! It’s a classic for a reason, and it’s great to use after shaving.
