A kinda Analysis of Eberwolf and what reason they might have for joining the rebel side
Tumblr media
Team RED, a.k.a Raine, Eberwolf, Darius, a.k.a undercover traitors who all rank top in their respective covens. We got two epsidoes surrounding Raine and how they are doing what they are doing because they hate the system and think forcing people into covens against their will is wrong. Raine has strong beliefs. With Darius no episodes are centered around him, but he has played enough of a secondary role in certain episodes that we can piece together his motivation. He was mentored by a previous Golden Guard. He had a lot of respect, admiration, love for his mentor. Like all the Grimwalkers before, his mentor eventually went against Belos and was killed. To make Darius head of the abomination coven Belos must either not remember who mentored Dairus, or believe he was trained to be 100% loyal to the Emperor. One more thing Belos is wrong about.
Now we have Eberwolf. We do not really know much about Eberowolf. Is Eberwolf a bipedal demon or a best demon? What does Eberwolf’s language of grunts mean? What is Eberwolfs backstory and reason for doing what Eberwolf is doing? What is Eberwolf’s gender/pro-nouns? We really do not know. Now any definitive answer to any of these will probably come in the form of quick short sentence answers/translations from Raine/Darius to questions Eda/Luz asks regarding Eber, as they all race to fight the day of unity. Until we get that I want to make some theories based on what we have of Eberwolf already
Tumblr media
So the beast keeping coven flag and sigil is of Eberwolf and these high-bread chicken pig things But in the field Eberwolf seems to commonly employ another type of Beast: ratworms.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe Eberwolf lives on a farm or a ranch and has herds of different beasts. That would certainly make sense for the head of the beast keeping coven. But lets focus on Eber’s Ratworms for now. The one on top came with Eberwolf to a televised event, to represent the track. It is small, pudgy, has large red eyes, but is honestly cute to look at. Join the Beast keeping coven you will get to ride and work with cute and awesome beast like this one...right?... Well let’s look at the one bellow, that came with Eberwolf on an actual mission. It’s scared up, blind in one eye, has a broken tooth and is missing a chunk of ear. Poor thing has seen some really bad times.
Who did this to the poor beast? Another ratworm? No. Rats are incredibly social animals and generally act buddy buddy inside the pack. I cannot imagine worms exhibiting this amount of competitive hostility towards one another either. And even if you want to argue with me that these high-bread fusions may exhibit more aggression and territorial behavior than either of its human world counterparts, those are not teeth marks on its skin. How would another ratworm be able to cut it up like this without claws or hands capable of wielding a blade? It wasn’t another ratworm.
Did Eberwolf do this? Did Eberwolf beat and scar the beasts in an effort to assert themselves as Alpha and force the lower beasts to do their bidding? No. In Keeping up A Fearences we get our first look at beast keeping through Gwendolyn Clawthorne. We see that gaining control/aid of the creatures does not involve any kind of aggression or a fight. There are simple spells to alert them and bring them to your side. Also if the fact this one is wearing a collar is not enough to convince you of Eber and its relationship, then take a look at this...
Tumblr media
Eberwolf wasn’t caught by Raine and Eda’s doom song. They purposely ran into it to try an dig their pet out. Eberwolf loves these beasts more than their own life. They would not hurt any of them like that.
You know who that poor ratworm’s scars look likes? Hunter’s.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And after hallow minds I am no longer holding onto any illusion of a belief that any of Hunter’s scars are from training accidents, standing to close to the crossfire, or mixing things up with criminals. They all come from Belos.
Belos who is a puritan witch hunter and regards all life on the boiling isles as vile, unworthy, and needing to be purged. Belos who has killed countless beings with human faces. Belos who has killed, recreated, then re-killed his own brother/nephews countless times. If he can do all that, then it is no stretch at all to believe that he would maim or purposely endanger demons. Of course someone like Eberwolf, who see’s such value in these creatures and has so much love for them (again they raced to potential death to try and help their pet) would hate that and be opposed to all of this. But if Eberwolf tried to fight Belos openly and directly they would lose, become petrified, and then there would be be no one left to protect their beasts. Eberwolf may be animalistic but as we have seen they are capable of reason, schemes, sticking to a plan, and playing the long game; as any secret rebel would have to be. I am sure they want to save the isles beast from Belos’s hate, but they are smart enough to do it right. To get in close, act subtle, find others like them, and form a plan for when the time is right...
I mostly wrote this because whenever I got into Eberwolf’s tag I either get discourse over what their gender/pronouns are (LOL) or it’s actually full of posts that are more about Raine, Raeda, or Darius. Do not get me wrong, all three are awesome and I love them. But Eberwolf is awesome too and deserves more love. Final theory Eda is a rebel because she does not like being controlled. Raine is a rebel because of their beliefs. Darius is a rebel in memory of a fallen loved one. Eberwolf is a rebel to protect the pets/beasts they love and do not want to see be abused/brought to a end.

Super silly Darius gets a cat AU:
> Sometime post canon the kids (i imagine Amity and Gus especially because Amity has a cat palisman and Gus is the human world entusiast) are visiting Camila's vet clinic, or waiting for Luz there. And there is a really unfortunate hairless cat that was abandoned and brought to the clinic. The kids are curious about it because they didn't know humans have hairless cats, and also because it looks so miserable. It is ragged (like torn ear, missing an eye), it needs special care, etc. Camila explains that it would be very difficult to find it a home. The kids feel sorry for it.
> So they take the cat and bring it to Darius. Darius' first reaction is What is this horrid disease ridden beast? It looks like a ratworm with legs. The kids ask him to abominate some hair for it, so it won't be so unfortunate-looking and miserable, but he replies that you need actual hair to turn it into abomination. He could try just making it a coat from abomination matter (cue the cat with abomination clothing sprouting around it, mildly traumatized).
> Then Camila catches up with the kids. And she is asking whether they understand that the cat with abomination fur would really stick out in the human world. And they reply, like, No we knew making it abomination fur wouldn't work, but we knew Darius has resources to care for it, and if we bring a beast like this to him he wouldn't be able to resist. Cue him in background already building a purple cat tower for it. (It gets called Rat or something like that)
[most of the people closest to Darius are aestheticaly the opposite of him so i picture that a pet for him would be the same way]

I like Hunter Deamonne better because Hunter gets the undivided parental attention that he needs. Also, the fact that they have known each other for years is so delicious.
Hunter Deamonne is my go to for many reasons.
I mean, first things first, it's all but said that it's what ended up happening, with Darius and Hunter reuniting and then that little moment they share in the epilogue, plus Hunter wearing the patch with the pattern of Darius' abominations specifically in his apron and in that one Gallery Nucleus art Dana made. On the back of his jacket.
Honestly, I was lowkey ride or die for them ever since Any Sport in a Storm but I do think even if they weren't able to do a lot because of time, all the implied moments with them (the sewing lessons, the meeting in between LR and COTH, wtc.) work very well to establish a budding bond there. It's just really good. They're everything to me.
And then there's the matter that yeah, Darius can give Hunter all of his attention and that would be good for Hunter, because he has to come to terms with so much trauma and so many things about his life and he's going to need as much support as possible. I think what's great about Darius adopting him too is that he sort of gets it already, of course he doesn't know the details because if anything, he would have started to suspect that Hunter was abused until the sewing lessons (I'm so tired of people assuming he knew before, please... the Palisman Logs literally contradict that, stop it), but he knows life at the castle and he has more means to understand what Hunter would have gone through, which is definitely a boon because with a matter as complicated as this, Hunter won't be ready to talk about everything in detail right away, and having someone who has more of a first hand understanding will help, especially because Darius must have been at the Emperor's Coven for quite a while since he was the previous Golden Guard's mentee.
Now, it's even better because it's not only Darius (though one parent with one kid is not at all a bad level of support and attention because I have no doubt Darius would be incredibly intense in his care considering how committed he is to everything he does), it's also Eberwolf! People sometimes seem to forget Darius and Eber are a package deal. And what's probably better for a kid who needs all the positive parental attention he can get than one very committed parent? Two very committed parents!
(Also a very good thing about Eber being there is that they're Head Beastkeeper, and as chaotic as they are, this means they must be very patient, because to practical ends, they train beasts. Judging by their ratworms, they must have dealt too with a lot of hurt animals so they know how to be careful when it comes to creatures that are wary because of past bad experiences. The "like with a wounded animal" approach that I think would help. Obviously they won't treat Hunter like an animal but the skills they have due to their specialty can be applied in a different way to help him anyway)
There's just so much to their dynamic, not to say it would be perfect, of course there would be fumbles around the way but I think they're so good because they have already a bond they can work with as a building point for their new family relationship, and a lot of understanding of Hunter's specific circumstances.

Dadrius Week Day 5: Uncle Eberwolf
“You’re lucky today,” Eberwolf signed, “Tomorrow? I would have been taking ratworms out of town. Should have called. I almost didn’t see the scroll.”
“Yes, because I CLEARLY have ready access to a raven phone at the moment.”
Eber gave Darius a ‘really?’ face. “Your parents live down the street.”
“That is the problem, isn’t it? Can we just leave? I’m surprised Jasmin hasn’t already sniffed us out.”
Eber shrugged, backing up and yowling his species’ equivalent of ‘beep, beep, beep.’ He drew a circle, and two ratworms, one a usual greyish color and the other a rarer bright red, slithered out, curling around him. “One for Hunter. One for you.” Eber sniffed Hunter’s injured hand. “To the healer?”
“No,” Hunter answered, “Just home.”
Eber raised one eyebrow, but didn’t comment, just hopped onto Darius’ shoulder and leaned forward until Darius sat on the red ratworm, wrinkling his nose at the creature’s grimy surface. He knew they liked to wallow and dig, but really. Did Eber ever bathe them? Maybe that was where he was taking them tomorrow, although Darius sort of doubted it.
The moment Hunter climbed onto his ratworm (carefully moving the cape he still wore so that it didn’t touch the animal, Darius noted with some small amount of pride) Eber yipped, and the two worms took off, expertly bobbing and weaving through the streets. An abomination warp certainly would have been much faster, but the ratworms weren’t exactly slow, and they arrived at Darius’ house in minutes.
“Thank you, Eberwolf.” Hunter slid off of the ratworm and headed inside without another word, shoulders slumped. Darius watched him go, waiting until the blinds in Hunter’s room closed.
“I think I may have made a mistake,” he said in a rush to Eberwolf.
“You think?”
Darius twisted his gloves in his hands. “I didn’t give him enough warning. I let Jasmin of all people run off with him—”
“I like Jasmin.”
“Of course you do. But she’s a bit of a strong force for impressions, especially added on top of the stress of meeting my parents.” Darius pinched the bridge of his nose. “I pushed him too fast, and now I’ve scared him off. Something went wrong, he broke a glass, and it made him freeze up. I think I perhaps made it worse somehow when I tried to help? He got hurt, and he’s upset with me for taking him there—not that I blame him. I just… wanted to introduce him to my family. And now he’ll probably never want to go back.”
Eberwolf sniffed. “Sure about that?”
“Of course he won’t want to go back! The whole thing went sour from the beginning—Jasmin was right, I shouldn’t have expected to just show up and expect everything to be normal.”
Darius paced back and forth. “I should have patched things up with my family on my own before trying to drag Hunter into the mix. Things are still awkward between us, and adding a whole other person, especially one I’m also having an awkward time with… titan, he probably thinks they hate him and he was the problem. I was the one on trial; they probably already like him. Heaven knows my father was judging how I’m taking care of Hunter.” Darius pinched the bridge of his nose. “Which he… was probably proved right about. He got hurt on my watch—I’m supposed to be the adult in his life that protects him from injury, Eberwolf! No wonder he’s upset.”
Eber scratched his ear. “So tell him.”
“I’ve already told him it wasn’t his fault we left early, and he doesn’t seem to believe me. He’s…” Darius waved a hand in the air. “Catastrophizing.”
“And you’re not?”
“Well. It’s not catastrophizing if it’s true.”
Eber rolled his eyes. “I’ll tell him.”
“What? Eber, no, you’re—”
Eber scuttled halfway up the side of his wall, clawing his way out of Darius’ reach. “Too late!” He disappeared into an upstairs hall window. Despite his irritation and anxiety that Eber would aggravate the situation, Darius didn’t chase after him.
Maybe he’ll surprise me.
Xxx
Hunter unwrapped his hand, hissing as the bandages stuck to the wound. Yeah. That was going to smart tomorrow. But the bleeding had stopped, and the wound had already started to clot, so with any luck, they’d at least be scabbed over by tomorrow.
The door to his room opened, and Eberwolf scampered in, sniffing at his wounds.
“It’s fine,” Hunter insisted, but he held his open palm out to the demon anyway. “What do you think, jelly?”
Eber nodded. “Keep flexible,” he signed. Hunter was still learning the demon’s language, but he understood enough that he didn’t need Darius to translate anymore.
Eberwolf’s nose crinkled. “Bad day?”
Hunter eyed him. “You’re not going to just report everything I say to Darius, are you?”
Eberwolf crossed his heart. “Won’t.”
Hunter sighed, gently sponging dried blood away from the wounds. “I screwed up. I broke a glass, I had a—a panic attack in the middle of his parents’ kitchen, and I don’t think they were too impressed with me to begin with.” He expertly unscrewed the lid off of a tube of antibiotic gel with one hand, squeezing the substance onto his open palm. “I just wanted to do something with Darius for father’s day, maybe just… I don’t know, take some sort of step out of ‘person who lives in his house.’ And instead, I made everything worse.”
Eberwolf snuffled, pawing at his nose.
Hunter sat down on his bed with a whump. “He tried to introduce me to his family, Eber! It was a big deal! But I messed up. And now he’ll probably never want to let me near them again. I—are you okay?”
The little demon had been rocking back and forth, scratching at his face, but now he fell over backwards, rolling around and howling with laughter.
Hunter jumped up, flushing. “This is serious! Stop—quit laughing at me, I don’t have the same advantage you do where I’ve been on good terms with Darius for years, I—I what is so funny?!”
Eber shook so hard he couldn’t sign properly. He wheezed out a couple barks and growls through laughs, then gave up. The little demon hopped back to his feet, coughing for air.
“Thinks he made mistake.”
“Oh,” Hunter said softly. The festering worry that he’d done something wrong yawned open wider inside his chest, seizing his lungs. Darius thought bringing Hunter had been a bad idea. He really had messed up. “Okay,” he managed, “Thanks for telling me how he… how he feels.”
“No.” Eber hesitated, started to sign something, then snatched up a pen and one of the brand new journals Camila had gifted him for his first school semester at Hexside.
You’renot the mistake.
Hunter stared at him, uncomprehending. Then, slowly, slowly: “Wait, if I’m not the mistake—what he thinks—”
“Overwhelmed you.”
“What? No, it was my fault, I broke the glass, I freaked out, why would he think—I mean, his abomination slithering around my feet didn’t help, but again, that’s on—it’s not Darius’ fault!”
Eberwolf heaved a long-suffering sigh. “Wants to take you back. Thinks you don’t want to go.”
“I do! I mean, maybe not today, but if he wants to—if they want to—if we can…” Hunter paced around his room. “Eber, you know him better. Does he want—does he think—am I just—”
“Finish sentence.”
“I…” Hunter struggled for words. Did he want answers to any of his questions? What if the answer was no? What if Darius was just letting him stay in the house, and the adoption papers were only a formality? Did Darius even plan on signing them?
But he’d wanted Hunter to meet his family—did he want them to be Hunter’s family, too? Jasmin had called herself his ‘Aunt Jasmin’—although that had sort of seemed like something she’d do without much prompting.
“What am I supposed to be?” he said finally.
Eber tilted his head. “Hunter.”
“No, I mean—am I his coworker? Friend? Ward? Ch-chi—” Hunter couldn’t finish the word.
“Supposed be Hunter. Whatever is.”
Hunter sighed, flopping backwards onto his bed. “It was almost easier when he hated me. At least I knew what he expected.”
“Easier. Not better.”
“No. Not better,” Hunter agreed. He’d only gotten Darius’ respect recently, sure, but now that he had it, he never wanted to lose it. Whatever happened, whatever he and Darius ended up being, he didn’t want to go back to how it had been.
“You want…?”
“I don’t know.” Hunter rubbed his arms. “I don’t know what I want. I don’t know if I’m ready for—for—” He shuddered, remembering the cold, slithering feel of Darius’ abomination. It didn’t usually bother him; neither did Amity’s. But this time… “It was easier with Camila.”
Not that he’d put a label on what Camila was to him, either. But somehow, the stagnant unsureness was more comfortable with her. Simply a quiet state of being, rather than this volatile, dangerous thing that felt like the ground beneath Hunter was moving and swaying and could possibly explode at any moment. His hand went to his belt pouch, resting on top of the card inside.
“I don’t know,” he repeated.
Eberwolf shrugged. “Darius doesn’t either.” He patted Hunter’s arm. “Not fault.”
The demon stretched, then headed out the door, disappearing into the hallway. Hunter heard a scratching sound on the outside wall, and then nothing. He stared up at the ceiling, absentmindedly flexing and relaxing his injured hand.
If Darius doesn’t know what he wants, how am I supposed to figure out where I fit in here?
Am I just supposed to… figure out what I want and hope it lines up with whatever he figures out?
What if it doesn’t?
Darius wouldn’t kick him out, he was sure of that much, but still. There were dozens of ways his situation could go badly that didn’t involve displacement. He could list at least five off the top of his head.
They couldn’t stay in this awkward stalemate forever. He knew that.
But still. Thinking about what might happen when they left… Hunter would rather grab another handful of glass.
Xxx
Is Hunter okay? Mom and Dad are asking, too.
Darius’ fingers hovered over the keyboard. The last set of text messages between he and Jasmin was another rejected dinner invitation from three years ago—and scrolling up, he could see that their last real conversation that weren’t short courtesy invites had been ten years ago.
I really did drop the ball on that one. No wonder she was upset.
What did he tell her?
He’s fine, he replied shortly (a lie, maybe, but what was he supposed to answer?), then added thank you for the concern. I’ll let him know you asked.
Three dots.
We saved some cake. If you two want to come back.
Darius read and reread the message over and over again. Another invitation. A second chance.
Before he could send a response, Eber barked a warning, and Darius jumped up as he scuttled back down the wall, suddenly nervous. If he hadn’t screwed up with Hunter irreversibly, they could make this work. His parents and Jasmin were willing to try again—if only Hunter was on board. “Well?” he demanded, “How’d it go?”
Eber preened, grooming himself. “How did what go?”
“Don’t do this to me, Eber.”
A dramatic sigh. “I am the only one keeping this family together.”
Darius fought back the urge to pick the demon up by the scruff of his neck and shake him until he got answers. Still, his hands twitched. “Eber.”
Eberwolf stretched, whistling for his ratworms. “Promised not to tell you what he said. But I will say, you need to figure out what he means to you. Or you’re going to lose him.”

Tumblr media
Amity’s POV:
Ugh this is so annoying! Why does the teacher go on and on about this subject, and why does he talk so slow?! I don’t really know why I bother paying attention anyway, I mean I already know about this stuff because my mom made me study it last year, and it wasn’t even that interesting! Speaking of my mom, she’s been putting a lot of pressure on me lately. Ever since I became my own individual, colored my hair, started hanging out with the people I wanna hang out with, and most importantly: stopped being afraid of her, she’s been more controlling than ever! Mom expects me to put up with all these extra classes and discipline, but I won’t let her get to me. I just wish I could focus on something other than school once in a while… Or someone.
Y/n… I wonder what she’s doing right now.. probably just some boring class as well, haha. I really miss spending quality time with her though, that would be the perfect stress reliever… wait a minute, that’s it! We should do a sleepover! Yes! It’s the perfect thing, and mom won’t be able to bother us either since she’s gone for a couple of days. Welp that settles it! Me and my girl’s gonna spend the entire weekend together, and I’ll show Y/n that I’m an awesome girlfriend. I giggled quietly to myself at the back of the class, imagining what a wonderful end of the week it was going to be, while waiting for that darn bell to scream.
—————————————————————————— Your POV:
I was walking around campus while humming to myself, making my way to my next class. What was it again? Oh right! Beastkeeping! Today, we’re gonna learn how to tame a wild ratworm, how exciting! As I was walking, I suddenly heard someone shouting my name.
“Y/nnnn!!”
Huh? Who could that be? I turned around to find whoever was trying to get my attention. What I saw made me cackle a bit. Amity was running towards me at full speed, before stopping and bending down, hands on her knees while breathing heavily. After she caught her breath she shot up with a wide smile across her face. Such a cutie pie.
“Y/n! I’m so happy I found you!” She said while tucking her hair back behind her ears.
“Hi Amity! Glad to see you too! Now, what’s the rush about?”
“Oh! Well, I’ve been thinking aaand we should maybe I don’t know, do a sleepover this weekend?” Amity said looking a bit nervous, while bouncing on her toes.
“Yes, that’s a great idea! But, don’t you have schoolwork to catch up on? I mean we’ve barely seen each other all week due to your packed schedule.” I answered with a sad expression. I just miss seeing my sweet girl, but I haven’t been able to spend time with her all week, because her mom’s been signing her up for extra classes all over Hexside! Honestly, I feel really bad for her, it must be overwhelming.
“Yeah, I have been focusing an awful lot on my studies haven’t I, haha.. But not anymore! I’m gonna have a talk with my mother, and this time I won’t back down. Plus, she isn’t even going to be home this weekend, because she has an important business conference to attend to, so she won’t be able to bother us! Oh! Maybe we can have a Good with Azura marathon, and perhaps, y’know.. cuddle or something..?”
Amity’s whole face was practically burning up when she asked about that last part (insert tomato Amity) as a nervous smile spread across her face. I could feel my heart flutter as I looked at her with a small blush myself.
“Oh Amity! Of course I wanna spend the weekend with you! It’ll be amazing, gah I can’t wait! *gasp* but I’m running really late right now, see you later, hun!” I practically yelled as I blew her a kiss and ran away.
Amity’s POV:
She said yes! Aaah I’m so excited! Oh my Titan, I have to get home and get everything ready! I’ve gotta make sure that everything is absolutely perfect!
——————————————————————————
Your POV:
Whoof that was a seriously chaotic class. One student even almost got eaten by a ratworm, but alas me and Viney got it under control, thankfully. Oh that’s right! I have a date with Amity now! Is it even a date? Is it okey for me to consider it one..? Meh, it’s probably fine, like come, on we’re dating anyway!
~time skip to Amity’s house~
*ding dong*
I stood there waiting for one of the Blights to open the door as I placed my hands behind my back. Suddenly, the door swung open as Edric and Emira leaned on the doorframe, smirking as always.
“Y/n! Hi girl, how’s it hanging?” Emira said as she gave me an high five.
“Hi Emira! Lovely seeing you both, and I’m doing fine.” I replied with a closed eye smile.
“Hey mittens! Your girlfriend is here!” Edric shouted as he playfully winked at me.
Moments later we all heard the pitter patter of footsteps running down the stairs, before Amity herself appeared in the doorway with a tomato face.
“Edric! I told you to stop being embarrassing in front of-“
“In front of Y/n? Yeah I know, and I guess pet names are reserved only for your special girl here.” Edric said with a smug look as he and Emira leaned on a grumpy looking Amity who was busy hiding her face in her hands, which was practically burning up at this point.
“I hate you guys” she said with a sour tone.
“Love you too, Mittens!” The twins shouted in sync before walking away, laughing.
“Ugh, I swear those two do irritate me on purpose. Anyhow, Y/n hi! I’m so glad you could make it!” Amity said as she gave me a hug.
“I’m glad I could make it too, sweetie! Now, are ya ready for some Good witch Azura!?”
“Haha yeah I am, come on let’s go”
——————————————————————————
Amity’s POV:
Me and Y/n went up to my room which I had personally prepared with a bunch of blankets, snacks and pillows. As we entered I could hear Y/n let out a small gasp before turning to me with that adorable smile.
“You did all this? Wow! You’re just the best, Amity! This is gonna be so much fun!”
She’s just the cutest sometimes.
“Heh yeah! Now sit down N/n while I pop the disk in” (I’m not really sure how TVs and stuff work on the Boiling Isles, but let’s just pretend they work like on earth for the sake of the story)
I grabbed the remote before sitting down beside my girlfriend, who quickly cuddled up to me. I could feel my body stiffening up as she wrapped her arms around my waist. Carefully, I wrapped my arm around her shoulder before looking down at her, but to my surprise she was already up looking at me with that expression.
“W-what?” I asked.
“You’re blushiiiing” she said in a singing voice while leaning closer to my face.
“I- uh, no?” I said even though it sounded more like a question than an answer.
“Let’s just watch the movie” I finished, looking away feeling embarrassed.
“Sure, what ever you say mittensss”
“Stop it”
——————————————————————————
It’s been a couple of hours and we we’re currently on the third movie. I could feel my eyes starting to become heavy as I struggled a bit to stay awake. Then I suddenly heard a gentle snore coming from Y/n. Huh? My eyes wandered over to the h/c girl peacefully snoring away in my lap. Awww she fell asleep, and she looks absolutely adorable! I could feel my cheeks heat up as I carefully bent down, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead. Then, I slowly lifted her a bit, being careful not to hurt her, before laying down beside her. Wow, she truly is beautiful I thought to myself as I rested by her side, taking my time studying her face. I’m so lucky to have someone like her in my life, I said in my mind while hugging her close to me.
“I love you, Y/n” I whispered before closing my eyes and drifting of, excited to spend the rest of the weekend with the best girl in the whole wide world.
Tumblr media
This one took FOREVER to finish! Why the hell did I decide to make it so long?! Anyhow, I truly hope you guys enjoyed!

Dating someone you've known for literally forever is an odd experience. It's fucking awesome, that's for sure, but it's odd. Like, when Eda remembers that, oh, she doesn't have to panic holding Raine's hand anymore.
She still does panic- but for a completely different reason. And that said reason is a thousand times more favorable than before.
It's a Monday, which means one of two things. One, she has to go to school. Two, she gets to see Raine. She thanks the Titans for two- it makes her absolute hatred for Hexside so much more bearable.
Eda crashes into her Locker, hair all over the place and sunken bags underneath her amber eyes.
"Woah- hey there, soldier," A familiar voice practically half-sings next to her.
"What do you want, bitch?" She grumbles.
"Hey!" Raine squawks indignantly, "That is no way to speak to your partner!" They flick Eda on the shoulder, and then frown, "You alright, though?"
"I had to wake up. Does it look like I'm alright?"
Eda loves Raine, that's a pretty well-known fact. But what she doesn't love is the fact that Raine is definitely a morning person, and it sucks for her. Like, seriously, how can one be this happy on a Monday morning?
Raine laughs, all traces of worry gone. "Good to see you too, buddy," They snort, "Hold on, it looks like a ratworm built a nest in your hair. Let me get a comb."
They shuffle through their bag before bringing out an orange, wide-toothed comb with a slightly bent top. They shrug, "This'll have to do, then."
They lean closer to Eda, leaning onto the Locker before pulling out a small lock of her hair. They brush through it lightly, plucking out a leaf in the process.
She blushes at the proximity- because Raine's so close. And then Raine looks up at her with slightly wide eyes, and they're aware of it too. Hesitantly, they reach out to touch her cheek, one firm hand still gliding through her hair.
The comb catches a tangle near her neck and breaks, and Raine rolls their eyes, "Eda... you need to comb your hair if you're going to keep it this long," They mutter.
Butterflies engulf inside the bottomless pit of what is called a "stomach" and Eda presses them down. Because they're stupid and not necessary right now.
"I do what I want," She rolls her eyes right back, but without any heat.
Raine leans in and presses a featherlight kiss on Eda's cheek. "You do you, the- SCREEEEECH."
The Locker screams at the top of its lungs, signaling the start of the school day. They both jump apart, blushing and shocked by the outburst, before starting to giggle.
"Way to ruin the moment," Eda folds her hands, and smacks the Locker for good measure. She's not actually angry, but the squeaking box doesn't need to know that.
"We should get to class," Raine grins, "See you at lunch?"
"If I don't get detention by then, absolutely," She winks and starts walking away, not before noticing Raine's amused expression, feeling so much better than she did before.
Only a few seconds later, she hears: "Oh, and by the way, you owe me a new comb!"
2.
Eda never ends up giving Raine a new comb, which is fine, because Raine forgot about it anyway.
When Eda brings it up one afternoon while playing grudgby, a few months later, Raine snorts, "I was joking, Eda. It was practically useless anyway. Seriously, I don't mind."
Eda smiles lightly, "Thanks, then."
"Not a problem, soldier," they nod, kicking the ball with all the strength they had. It misses the goal and soars outside the field, and into the stands, causing both of them to groan. Every time this happens, they spend at least fifteen minutes trying to find it.
"On second thought, maybe I could do with a favor," Raine mumbles, "There might be a storm today and I need to find that ball soon."
"You got it, commander," Eda salutes, running towards the stands, "Last one there is a rotten slimesicle!"
They don't find the ball.
It's been an hour, and there's no sign of it anywhere. Clouds are billowing in the sky, and it's begun to drizzle. Eda shivers, mentally chiding herself for not wearing something warmer.
Raine looks up, concerned. "You can take my jacket, if you want? We can look for the ball tomorrow, let's just get home soon."
Eda is about to protest, but Raine picks up the grudgby jacket that they take with them to practice, and gently hands it over to her.
And well, she can't say no to them now, can she?
She takes the jacket, hesitantly pulling it over her arms. It's a little bit too tight and slightly short, but it couldn't have been better. And, on another note, it smells like rain.
It's kind of coincidental (or maybe not), but Raine always smells like petrichor. Petrichor in the boiling isles is... not an incredibly popular scent. But she thinks otherwise- once the acid rain disappeared, it smells pretty decent outside. Or maybe that was just Eda.
Dating Raine kind of felt like petrichor, when she thought about it. The days of giggling and blushing and getting embarrassed weren't gone, but they weren't... incredibly common anymore. Raine wasn't something new and exciting anymore- but they were something better. They were home. Not that Eda would ever say it out loud, but it was true.
They were like the feeling after the rain ended, after the excitement, after the fear. It was the peace and knowledge that the two of them were here, together, and it was enough. She was enough.
The rain begins to grow a tad bit heavier, and they duck under the bleachers. "We gotta get to dry ground," Eda mutters, because everyone knows that acid rain burns are not fun to deal with.
"No shit, Titans." Raine huffs, "C'mon, the training room should be open. It's our best bet."
3.
They do not find the grudgby ball.
Actually, they do. Just not the next day, or the day after that, or the day after that.
Nope, they find that stupid ball four years later. They're both out of school now, with Raine starting their work with the covens, and Eda playing professional grudgby.
Eda flips her hair behind her back, trying to untangle it from her favorite jacket. Well, it's technically Raine's, but she kind of kept it a while back- and Raine didn't seem to mind that much.
They'd stitched a bright red "E" onto it only a few years back, smiling at Eda as they handed it over. "You wear it too damn much, so might as well have your name on it. You know, just in case you lose it."
Now, she's wearing it, watching the practice from the stands above. After injuring her finger in a thumb war (Why? Raine had sighed, You're an adult, Eda), she was forced to take a short break from playing.
She kicks her legs back and forth, humming to some screaming-rock music playing on the stadium's radio to keep the players upbeat. They've rented out the Hexside playing grounds for just today, since their normal practice place is infested with a very territorial slitherbeast.
Suddenly, her leg hits something soft, and she frowns. Leaning down, she pushes out a small brown ball. Someone must have lost their ball kicking it up here, she thinks, we used to do that all the time.
It's a fond memory of Raine- and one that sends a pang of nostalgia through her chest. She turns the ball in her hands, and pauses when she notices a small R + E etched into the ball's leather.
She bursts out in giggles, because what the fuck. She snorts, "Raine's would love this- after all these years, and I'm the one who finds this old thing."
Eda tucks it into her bag and waits until practice is finished. And as she walks outside, she realizes three things.
One, Raine's not waiting for her.
Two, Raine won't be waiting for her anymore.
Three, Raine and her broke up.
Four days ago. One day after her fucking birthday. Who does that? Who breaks up with someone twenty-four hours after the best day of their life?
Raine Whispers, that's who.
Eda's still wearing the bracelet Raine gave her, and she doesn't know why. She should be throwing it to the owls, but she can't bear to lose the last gift Raine gave her.
It's a white one, made out of bat silk. There are small, intricate designs on the tiny black clasp connecting it around her wrist. And in the very middle, is half of a heart. It used to be Raine's parents, and they'd given it to them as a promise. Raine has one too, and it's almost identical to hers- except that it's black.
It was for the "love of their life", Raine's parents had told them. And that bastard had given it to her, like a fucking joke, and then broken up with her.
It was kind of her fault, actually. She'd messed things up and now Raine refused to talk to her, and she was kind of- very slightly- heartbroken.
Very slightly. She didn't sob into her pillow for hours last night.
Eda turns her wrist, and lets out a self-deprecating laugh. Fitting, she thinks, That it's a broken heart.
She'll get over Raine Whispers, she knows.
She thinks.
She hopes.
4.
Edalyn Clawthorne is an outlaw. She's fearless, she's wanted, she's famous, and she's living her dream life.
At least, that's what most elves think.
No, the real Edalyn Clawthorne doesn't even exist anymore. She's living as a facade, as the "Owl Lady" in fear of people knowing who she truly is.
It's the harsh truth, and one she hates to confront.
Damn it, the only reason she's stealing things from the human realm is to get on the coven's nerves. Because you know what? Fuck the coven. Fuck Belos. Fuck that fucking Raine Whispers.
She's swearing too much, and she knows it. But there isn't anybody to stop her, there isn't anybody that cares.
She's so, so alone.
And she hates it so much.
"Eda?" A tiny voice calls out from the living room, and Eda wills her self-pitying thoughts to disappear. She's not completely alone, because she has King. King, who she brought home one night and then just... kept.
"Yeah, King?" She calls back, "Do you need anything?"
"The King demands another glass of red juice!" He declares.
"You hated it, remember?" She sighs, "You threw it at your stuffed demons last time."
"Exactly! I must use it to torture the souls of my prisoners so they bow to my will!" He cackles an evil laugh (it's actually adorable, Eda thinks), and then she hears things being thrown around the room.
Oh well.
She forces herself to stand up and grab the broom, because Hooty obviously can't dust himself (actually, he can- but don't tell Eda that). Plus, the Owl House was beginning to look like a dump, and King was not helping.
She could get through this, one day at a time. It would get better, because she had King, and he was safe, and that was all she needed for now.
But speak of the titan, and he shall arrive. Just then, King screams, and Eda jumps to her feet and runs- alert and scared.
"King?" She panics, "You 'kay?"
She finds him in the middle of a large pile of stuffed animals, groaning and muttering unintelligible syllables to himself.
"King?" She picks him up slowly, stepping over the oversized stuffies. "Buddy, what happened?"
"I thought... it would be a good idea to make a tower of doom! And have my servants carry me up to the top... but they dropped me! And I fell," He bawls, tears springing from his bright brown eyes.
"Does anything hurt?" She asks softly.
"My arm... and my head... and my legs," King wails.
Titans, why couldn't the world just give her a break?
"We need to get you to a doc- oh no," Realization dawns on her when she realizes she can't even come close to the Boiling Isles without someone noticing her. And everyone knows she's wanted- she'd be caught immediately.
She looks at King, sniffling in her hands, and groans inwardly.
It was time to make a trip to the doctor's office, also known as the center of the Boiling Isles.
Five minutes later, she's sitting on Owlbert and flying into the city, wearing a wild magic-made black cloak, large sunflower glasses (she couldn't find anything else, okay?), and a brown rainhat.
Here's the thing: getting into the doctor's is easy- nobody suspects anything when a cloaked woman with a wailing baby enters a hospital. But inside, Eda's going to have to drop all of her magic, in case it's carrying any sort of disease or whatever. What's she going to do then?
She has absolutely no idea.
The doctor gives King a vial to drink, which, since she's spent a ton of her life in illegal activity, Eda knows doesn't work. So slams a bunch of money on the table, leaving the poor worker gaping. "You're- you're a wonderful mom, ma'am. There's a proper healing potion in the back I can give to your son, but he'll have to take it once a day for about a week." Eda nods sharply, and the doctor scuttles away.
When he comes back, Eda's magic has faded (the hospital has leeched it away from her), and the doctor's smile falls. "You're- you're the-"
She groans, and without thinking, drop-kicks the doctor and grabs the vial. "We'll be leaving now, thank you," she smirks, picking the wide-eyed King off the hospital bed and running into the hallway.
Red alarms begin to blare loudly, and Eda's smirk disappears. "They have security buttons in every room now, don't they?" she mutters.
"Yes, they do, actually," a voice replies, causing her to freeze. Something about it isn't right, and it sends shivers down Eda's spine. She whisks around, finding herself face to face with the one and only...
Fucking Titans.
...Raine Whispers.
"Ever since you've turned the Boiling Isles into your own little playhouse, Belos has taken extra measures to keep us safe from your harmful antics. Now, I ask that you hand over whatever you've stolen, and come with me to the coven court."
They're on different sides now, she remembers. They're the enemy.
"As if, get the fuck away from me." She steps back and stands taller, but Raine isn't intimidated.
"Eda-" They begin, but are quickly interrupted.
"That's Edalyn to you, thank you very much. Better yet, call me the Owl Lady." She scoffs.
Raine sighs, a flicker of hurt passing through their expression, "Don't make me do this the hard way, Edalyn."
"I haven't stolen anything!" She hisses, "King got hurt and I needed a remedy, okay? Just let me go, and I won't do anything stupid." She hesitates, "Please."
Raine looks down, like as if they've only just realized King was there, hugging Eda's leg.
"King?"
"Yada, yada, yada, I picked him up on the side of the road and I'm taking care of him now. Can we go now?"
She drops the vial into her pocket, distracted and trying to find ways to get out of this forsaken place. But instead, she drops it, and it lands on her toe, spilling the remedy all over the floor.
And you know- she's stressed, and she's tired, and she's had a really long day- so it's only natural that she starts tearing up.
"Fuck off, Rainestorm," She mumbles, looking away so they can't see that she's so done right now.
She doesn't miss how Raine's eyes widen, and then flicker to King, and then to the broken vial.
"Take this."
"What?"
"Take this," They mutter, handing her a similar vial from their cloak, "I use it for my wrist sometimes."
"Wha-"
"Titans, Eda, just take the vial and go! I'll lead the guards off. Just... go."
She doesn't need to be told twice, she grabs King and the vial and Owlbert and flies out of the window immediately.
She's breathing too hard, and her heart is racing a mile a minute. It only slows down when she spots the Owl House below, and she lands shakily.
The first thing she does is tuck King to bed, whispering promises and wishes as he falls asleep. Then, she goes to her room and cries.
She hasn't cried like this in a while, like all her emotions are escaping her faster than she can keep track of them. Seeing Raine was like a knife had sliced all the wounds she was trying to close.
She's still in love with Raine Whispers, she knows.
And she hates it more than anything else in the world.
5.
The Owl House is full of people, but sometimes, Eda still feels alone.
Luz and Amity are trying to find potion ingredients in town, King is sulking, and Willow, Gus, and Hunter are all plotting in the living room.
Unity day is soon, and they know it. It looms over them like the mist on a winter morning, like they're flying in a thousand clouds.
Eda isn't stupid- she knows this could be it.
They could lose people, and they will lose people.
But another part of her tells her that everyone will be fine, because they have to be, because she needs them to be.
It's so stupid, and so selfish. But she can't help it. If she lost Luz, or King, or even the stupid friends she keeps bringing over, it'd hurt like hell, and Eda's done with losing people. Her parents, her sister, Raine.
So she settles the score with herself and vows that she won't let any of them die before she does.
She'll fight for them, and them only.
She'll die for them, and them only.
She's cooking lunch when the doorbell rings, and she groans because she knows she's the one who'll have to open it. She lets the levitating ingredients plop back onto the table, and walks towards the door.
"Welcome back, Luz-"
Come on.
"Raine," She blinks, then regains her posture, "Can I be of any assistance?"
Raine shakes their head in a clipped and polite manner, "Can you give Luz these documents for me? They're about the Day of Unity, I managed to snag them from Belos."
This whole... thing is so weird. Raine is suddenly against Belos, and is helping Luz, and indirectly helping her. And don't forget the fact that they willingly got taken by a weird monster thing for her. And they used the song they wrote together, performed bard magic, and saved her.
Eda doesn't want to talk about that day. Because she lost Raine all over again, and she knows Raine knows it too.
Now, they're acting as if nothing ever happened.
She takes the documents from her ex's hand, and nods, "Thank you, I'll let her know when she comes back. It might not be a good idea to come here during the day, though. Someone might catch you."
"Concerned, Edalyn?" They smirk, with a look that Eda knows all too well. It fades quickly. "It's better this way, I can just say I'm going out for an errand and nobody thinks its suspicious. I'm hiding right under their nose."
"Fascinating." She deadpans, "Well, if you'll excuse me, I have lunch to make and children to help, sooo-"
"Need help?"
"Sorry?"
They fidget with their glasses, a nervous habit they seemed to have picked up during their days with the coven. "I've noticed there's a ton of people here nowadays, and it's probably stressful, so... do you need any help?"
"Is the great Raine Whispers asking if they can sacrifice their prestigious time to help me make lunch?" She asks, incredulously.
"You're working so much, Edalyn, it's the least I can do to help." There is something tender in their voice that makes her heart clench.
Titans, fuck this. "Call me Eda," A voice speaks, one that she can barely recognize as her own.
It's Raine's turn to be surprised now, "Huh?"
"Just- call me Eda. If we're working against Belos together, you're going to have to stop acting like we're strangers," She tries to sound harsh, but it comes out softer then she's expecting.
"Alright, Eda," they smile, "Can I come in now?"
+1
The Day of Unity is over.
They're alive. They're all... okay.
But it's not over yet, because The Collector is going insane, and nobody knows how to stop him.
And King... King is trapped up there with him too. She needs to find him, and... she needs to find Raine too.
Getting up to the floating castle is the hardest part, but she manages. Flying with harpy wings is surprisingly easy. She's planning on finding King first, but as she sneaks in through the backside, she feels a familiar tug of magic pull her closer.
Raine is here, and Raine is close.
She wants to look for them- she wants to find them and take them back, but she needs to find King before anything. King is her first priority.
Finding the Collector's room isn't hard, there's a trail of stars descending towards it in ever direction.
But she isn't exactly sure how she's going to grab King. The Collector would catch her if she made a run for it, but she doesn't have too many options.
She hears King say, "Hey! What if we played over there with the stuffed animals? I'll hide in one of them, and you have to try to find me!"
There's a scuttling noise, which she assumes is King hiding.
Eda waits, and waits, and waits, and hears the Collector looking inside of each toy and chest. "KING!" He squeals, "I'm going to find you!"
The Collector is nearing the door, and she needs to get out of here soon.
Something bumps on her leg, and she looks down and...
"King?"
"Eda??"
She ignores him, and lets her fight-or-flight mode take control. She picks up King, and then she's running, running, running, away from The Collector's voice and down to Raine's chamber.
"I thought you were hiding?" She whispers, breathlessly.
"I needed the bathroom, and he wouldn't let me go," King pouts in her arms, "So I just tried to escape for a bit! Why are you here?"
"To save you guys, obviously."
King frowns, "The Collector'll be lonely though."
"Seriously?" She hisses, "You're worried about that?"
They reach the entrance, and Eda pauses. King looks up, "What's wrong?"
"Raine's here."
King looks at her for a few seconds, then flails around, "Put me down! I'll stay on guard. If The Collector comes, I can trick him or something. Go get Raine." He grins.
Eda thinks about it for a while, and then places him down, "I'm so proud of you," she murmurs, and presses a kiss on his forehead, "I'll be back before you know it. Try not to get caught."
She's running again, opening doors (The Collector isn't very good at locking things), and looking through every room she can find.
It's like a maze, and she's starting to wonder if she's going in circles.
That is, until she finds them. They're locked onto a sticky black goop, and they freeze when they see Eda.
Oh right, she's still in harpy mode.
She spots their glasses on the ground and picks them up.
"Stay away!" Raine yells, and Eda has to hold back the urge to snicker.
She comes closer, putting the glasses on their face and cupping their cheek with her hand. "Hey, Rainestorm."
"Eda?"
"Mh hm."
"You're here?"
"I am."
"You're not just my imagination?" They ask, skeptically.
She giggles at that, "No, I'm here."
She begins working through the thick goop, one strand at a time. "How are you doing?"
"Peachy," Raine mumbles.
"Seems like it." They look so tired, with dark eyebags and new scars. But Eda has never seen them look so beautiful before. Because they're here, and they're alive, and they're okay.
They sit in comfortable silence for a while, Eda working through the goop and Raine staring at her as if she's some sort of new instrument species. If instruments have species, she doesn't know.
A scream breaks the silence, and they both freeze. "KIIING! I DON'T LIKE THIS GAME ANYMORE! LET'S PLAY SOMETHING ELSE." The Collector's upset, and he's nearing wherever they are.
"Take King and get out of here," Raine whispers as Eda breaks half of the goop, placing a small instrument in her shaking palm.
"No," she glares at them, pushing the miniature violin back. They must have used the last of their magic to turn it tiny in a desperate attempt to keep it safe. "Rainestorm, you've given me so fucking much. I'm not taking your violin. It's... it's your life."
"Eda," Their voice cuts through her protests, "You are my life. And I need you to be safe. Please."
It's a confession, and it causes Eda to take a step back, "I'm not leaving without you."
It's all she can say right now, with her mind so full of emotions and Raine.
"I left you," they look away, "You couldn't look at me without remembering how much I messed up."
She laughs, which startles them. "How much you messed up? Don't blame yourself for my mistakes, Raine. It was my fault. I get it. I would leave too, if I was stuck with someone like me," She's getting a bit too self-deprecating, plus, she doesn't like this whole game of charades, so she pulls closer.
"Raine Whispers, I'm not taking your violin with me. I'm taking you. We're going to get to the Owl House safely and I'm never, ever, going to let go of you again." She says it so decisively, with a fire in her eyes she knows Raine has never seen before.
And then there's a snap! and Raine stumbles out of their prison and into Eda's arms.
"Easy there, soldier," She smiles, and Raine returns it weakly.
"That's my line."
"C'mon," she smiles, hauling Raine up, "Let's get you home."

What would happen if Eberwolf and Luz met?
truthfully not a lot because luz is not magic and cannot understand eberwolf's language, though she would also be in awe of his magical prowess and would love to meet his ratworms.
also i havent figured out how i want to characterize eberwolf to be honest. they never got a lot of depth in the show which is fine but also now i have to give them depth lol.

Headcannons for Darius, Eberwolf, and Hunter as a family
Tumblr media
Darius and Eberwolf already lived together (well truth be told mostly Darius spends nights there. Eberwolf shifts between out door campsites, and the house’s basement when the weather is to cold/hot/stormy) in an older house just outside of bonesborough, and inside the country. They like the quiet of it. They clear an extra room out for Hunter and offer to help him with setting it up and decorating.
As soon as he can Darius drags Hunter to the healing coven get his scars looked at, find out what kind of medicine they need, and if their are any cosmedics that will iritate them. You best believe Hunter is getting a crash course on skin treatment from Darius.
Darius also takes Hunter to get some new cloths. Hunter at first tells Darius he doesn’t need him to because Camila already took him to earth “thrift stores” for cloths
When he shows his new cloths to Darius, and lets him see all the mismatching colors and clashing patterns, Darius has to bite his tounge and forces a smile as he comments that it still looks Hunter only has a few outfits, and could use some more. He also suggests they look for plainer cloths that’s colors will maybe match what Hunter already has, or that Hunter can sew designed onto.
The last part actually turns into a really nice continuation of the sewing lessons they already bonded over at the castle between ASIAS and HM. Darius helps Hunter work on formatting and spacing his designs. Hunter starts telling Darius everything he learns about this awesome earth concept called “cause play”.
Hunter is quick to decide he wants to learn Eberwolf’s language, which delights Eberwolf because apart Darius and Raine few witches have ever made an attempt to
Eberwolf does most of the cooking in the house. Yes when they eat meat it is often very fresh. He will let Hunter help sometimes with side dishes or setting the table. No Hunter does not have to help clean or gut kills. Like Darius Hunter perfers to not even be in the room while Eber is doing that
Eberwolf will also allow Hunter to come with him to his stables and help take care of the beast he keeps there. Hunter decides he wants to learn to Ratrace after hearing Boscha smugly brag about winning a race. Hunter wants to learn to to race on the big, scarred ratworm that Eberwolf brought on the mission in ER. Eberwolf growls at him that that worm is a rescue, from a really abusive situation, and does not trust anyone except for Eber himself on top of it. He points Hunter to a smaller, more gentle ratworm to learn riding with. Hunter listens to Eberwolf, but makes befriending the scarred ratworm a personal goal afterwards.
Hunter also gets the mistaken idea that Eberwolf must be really slow, because he is always riding everywhere either on one of his worm creatures, or On Darius’s shoulders. Darius learns Hunter thinks this first and just laughs and says “well what can you do? He is to suborn to improve”.
After that Hunter goes to Eberwolf and tells him that speed is important and Eber should start joining him, Darius, and Willow on runs in the early mornings. That is how Hunter finds out Eberwolf is actually the fastest out of all the former coven heads. His reason for hitching rides so often is in fact due more to his small size and wanting to see over peoples heads.
Oh yeah Willow comes by before for school, so she and Hunter can work out together. Darius makes changes to his sleep/morning schedule to make sure he is up too. Even if Hunter and Willow are generally trustworthy individuals, he remembers what teenagers can be like, and does not like the idea of Willow and Hunter being completely alone together.
Willow’s is as nervous to properly meet Darius and Eberwolf for the first time as Hunter is to meet her dad’s. She tries to bring them flowers to make a good impression. When she tries to give them the flowers they both back away, Eberwolf starts hissing. Through his cloak Darius impassively tells her that he is allergic to pollen, and that the type of flowers in her hands also happen to be poisonous to Eberwolf’s species. The Flowers quickly go in the trash and Willow is certain she has messed up both first and any impression the pair will ever have.
Willow cannot understand Eberwolf, and Darius is his usually stoic self throughout dinner, so neither really alleviate Willow’s concerns. At the school the next day though Hunter excitedly tell Willow that after she left they remarked that she seems like a very nice girls, and that Darius said he was impressed by how neat and tidy she is.
When Hunter first moves in he ask for the house rules. Darius tells him the basics. No shoes worn in the house, wash dishes after eating, do not leave your things out in the open. Bed rooms, which include yours, are a private space and no one will go into them without your permission. Keep your scroll on you when you go out encase you need to call us or vise versa
After Hunter has lived with them for a short time, and they learn just how foreign a concept relaxation is to Hunter, Darius has to give him some new rules. You need to be home by this hour and in bed by this hour. Do not try and get up in the morning until this hour 7-9 hours later. Eating three meals a day IS required. We are going to carve two hours out of every day for mandatory down time, during which time you are need to find something relaxing to do. That is not training, school work, or rebuilding plans for the isles. Hunter uses relaxing time to work on sewing, carving , or geeking out over cosmic frontier.
Because of the current state of the isles school moves first to online, then to partially online partially in person. Hunter is allowed to come with Darius and Eberowlf to work on clean up and repairs to the isles. They also give permission for him to attend therapy with Luz (Luz goes to Therapy in the demon realm because no human therapist will understand what “gliphs” or “tricked by belos” means) and to research alternative ways of using magic with Luz and the Clawthorne sister, (thank you to the poster who told me that Hunter does not infact have a bowl-sack after TTT and can only do the teleportation trick).
It seems like in the time skip Darius and Eberwolf become police, for keeping supporters of Belo’s form of tyrannical government from trying to bring it back. I also notice that they do not have Hunter with them while on the job. I imagine that he wanted to join them on that, and tried to pitch a fit at not being allowed. But they told him very firmly “No. This is dangerous work. Being a teenager is your job now”
Generally Darius and Eberwolf will have set their schedules so that one of them can be home with Hunter, or are only both working when Hunter is out. Sometimes they will both have to be away overnight, or for a couple days at a time though. Then Hunter will sleep over either at the Noceda residence, or the Porters.
One time when they come back home early from what was supposed to be an overnight trip only to find out that instead of going to the Porters house like he said, Hunter invited the hexsquad and EE’s to a house party, which totally trashed the living room. They send everybody home, and Darius angerly yells at Hunter to clean up this mess and that he is grounded indefinitely. Hunter cleans the mess and then goes to his room to text some of the adults he visits houses that he thinks he needs a new place to stay
Darius gets several messages on his scroll wanting to know what happened, and why he is kicking out Hunter. He explains what he came home to, and that he is not kicking Hunter out of the house, he has just grounded him. Because this is the first time Darius has ever had to ground Hunter, he is honestly not even sure what he is supposed to do to ground him. Once they understand the situation the other parents are happy to give Darius some suggestions based on how they will be grounding their kids for lying about their whereabouts and sneaking off to an unsupervised party.
Darius later goes up to Hunter’s room and tells him that he is not being thrown out. He and Eberwolf love having him here and will never do that to Hunter. But that lying to him is wrong and its also dangerous for Hunter to stay in the house alone at night. What if someone got hurt, or somebody tried to break in? Yes Belos used to leave Hunter alone in unsafe environments, but that was one more thing Belos did wrong. He finished by saying that Hunter will have extra house chores and an earlier nighttime curfew for the next two weeks, but that is going to be the extent of grounding.
Darius and Eberwolf go to all of Hunters Flyer Durby games once teams start back up.
Before carving waffles Hunter uses Darius’s palisman (The mini abomination thing Darius hid in his hair). Darius does not fly anymore (teleporting is faster and poses less risk of wrinkled cloths or bugs in his teeth) So Hunter reasons that he is not replacing Flapjack, he’s just helping gooey get to have a little more fun and activity in his life.
When Hunter tells them he wants to be a palisman carver, and has been asking Luz and Amity to get Eda and Lilith to recommend him as a student to Dell, Darius and Eberwolf help him create a pitch and practice interviews. This turns out to be over preparing. When Dell learns Hunter wants to learn the trade his only concern is if Hunters scars are anything like his and weather or not they impact his mobility.
Hunter calls Darius and Eberwolf by their first names, and that is also what he refers to them as in conversations. But eventually he gets to where he starts introducing them to people as his father and his Patruus (Latin for paternal uncle). Darius and Eberwolf love this.
Hunter is sad to learn that kids are supposed to move out of their parents house at or shortly after turning 18. He never had a real home or family until he was 16, and does not want to leave it after only 2 years. When Darius and Eberwolf learn this they tell him that he is welcome to stay with them as long as he wants.
Hunter lives with Darius and Eberwolf until he and Willow become engaged, then they get their own apartment close enough for both their families to visit.
Darius and Alador become friends again during the rebuilding of the isles, but do not start dating until after all their children have become adults. Emira and Hunter are the first two to learn about their dads being a couple. One day Hunter goes to hang out with his friends to find Amity distressing because her dad has just told her he has been dating someone for a while now, and wants to do a dinner between their two families. Alador did not say who his boyfriend is, Ed does not know, Em does but will not say who,  just that “I’ve seen him at work. He can be pretty alright”. What does that mean? He is dating Amity’s dad, and his last partner after all was Odalia!
Hunter laughs, puts his hand around Amity’s shoulders, and tells her that he is sure things will be alright and her dad’s new boyfriend is not someone she will ever have to be sacred of. When Amity see’s Hunter at the restaurant, and learns that Darius is who her Dad is now dating, she informs Hunter that she will get him for not telling her so earlier.

In regards to that Darius adopts a cat au, I feel like part of the reason for taking it in was that it reminded Darius of Hunter, they share the same sad wet cat vibe just a bit more literal for one of them
I was picturing it as a more general thing for Darius to connect with something/one that seems very opposite of him at the first glance (even his abominations are kinda more goofy/cutesy looking compared to what someone like him could've created). But that AU is not a very deep AU, i was thinking about what pet Darius could get, and then i was imagining how the abomination hair would look on a hairless animal, so i guess that means that the AU is very open to interpretation.
Thank you for the ask!

Darius frantically googling childcare tips in the runaway au, hoping to god that the Emperor's Coven isn't monitoring his scroll. how do you take care of a child? how do you reassure a child? how do you feed a - okay actually that one's easy, Hunter has his father's painfully simple taste in food, if his looks didn't make it obvious that he's Jasper's son the fact that he considers salt a spice would be proof enough.
Eberwolf is like, I can give you some tips but they're all gonna be based on raising ratworm litters and Darius is like STOP.
Hunter is probably kind of an easy kid to take care of in most respects, tho. like you said, he's had to become independent. self-sufficient. I feel like a lot of his childhood he was kinda like a fawn - like, a mother deer will leave her baby in a place she deems safe and hidden, and the fawn will lay there completely still for HOURS until mom gets back. Jasper's definitely had to do that with Hunter, except as Hunter has grown older Jasper has likely left him alone for longer periods of time, so Hunter gets to wander around a bit while waiting for his dad to get back. Swipe some food, maybe work some odd jobs for some snails, visit the library and see if he can finish a book before they have to move on again.
so he doesn't complain easily, and he doesn't really get bored the way a regular kid might, he's used to either sitting perfectly still or going off to find something to take up his time. he probably also gets more mileage out of entertainment items Darius gets for him. Darius is like "uhhhh I found some crappy crayons and some paper, sorry, best I can do on short notice" and Hunter is just like, oh, cool! cuz he's rarely had time/space/resources to sit down and color on paper.
Darius is still fumbling his way through this tho. one night he wakes up to find a sniffling Hunter climbing into bed with him and he starts to panic like OH GOD IS HE SICK I DON'T WANNA DO GERMS BUT I WILL IF I HAVE TO except no, the kid just misses his dad. Darius surreptitiously grabs his phone to type in "what to do when a kid crawls into bed with you crying" except to his everlasting horror he did NOT type that into Ghoul-gle, he typed it into a text message and now Eberwolf is responding like DARIUS ARE YOU SERIOUS and Darius is like I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO and Eber is like JUST HUG HIM THE WAY YOU'D NEVER HUG A BABY RATWORM.
Rjjsjsjd Darius trying to figure out how to care for this kid via eberwolf describing how to care for various baby animals
Yeah yeah yeah. Hunter is a baby faun. He's very good at hiding and he's very good at following instructions. Jasper has to weigh a lot of risks. Is it riskier to steal what he needs, or is it riskier to earn it by bounty hunting or selling something or what have you? And things just get riskier as Hunter gets older. Another timeline where jasper can't give hunter the childhood he wants him to have, but he's going to make sure he has one that he makes it out of, at least. He would rather have an unhappy adult than a dead child.
Hunter is a little fuckin monkey. He's always stealing shit. Just to prove he can. I love this little goblin version of hunter, a highly skilled little artful dodger.
When I was a teenager and my dad left it was pretty hard on my family. My brother has down's syndrome and autism; he's nonverbal, low-functioning, legally dead/blind. So he has a lot of trouble communicating effectively. He was like nine around this time and yeah, normal stuff was no problem. He knew how to let me know he was hungry or he needed me to come hit play on his DVD or something- assistive communication devices were and I think still are thousands of dollars lol and my folks and I were eating out of the food bank so. Yeah. Not happening.
In any case, the point is that one night my brother started crying. Like. Really crying. Crying in a way id never heard before. And obviously my mom came but I drove him to the hospital and we spent all night in the ER while he screamed and sobbed and they did test after test after test trying to figure out what could possibly be wrong.
Nothing was wrong. He was completely fine, physically. The end "diagnosis" was... Our dad had been gone three months and it was finally hitting him that he might not be coming back.
Just thinking about poor little hunter trying to cope with the idea his dad might not be coming back because he doesn't know where he is or what happened to him; he's just gone and it hurts! Reminded me of that night (can you believe I had to go to school the next day lol)
All Darius can do is hold this sobbing little guy and tell him that at least HE isn't going anywhere because... What else can he say? It's going to be okay? Jasper is going to be okay? Jasper will come back? He doesn't know that. He doesn't know any of that. All he can do is his own best. And hunter just :(

Hunter would be happy for life if he went to a wolf sanctuary, just happy crying as he pets a wolf. Darius is surprised at how big wolves actually are, he was expecting them to be dog sized. Meanwhile Eber is play fighting with the wolves in the background
Oh, he would love that!!!
Darius would be so amused at first too because Hunter is torn between giving him the longest hug of his life as thanks and going to see the wolves up close, but he insists the hug can wait, Hunter better go and enjoy himself.
Between Hunter practically having the wolves acting like puppies around him and Eber playfighting with them, Darius is gonna get the impression that he gets why Hunter likes to say they, too, are like a little wolf pack 😭
Big as they are, at least they're not like Eber's ratworms, it's always something else to see Hunter hugging those because Eber would sure put him up to it (mostly encouraging him to be gentle with beasts and animals, but it feels to Darius like it has ulterior motives with how often Hunter ends up muddy due to that).
In the end, there are many reasons why they couldn't bring one of those home, but they can compromise with getting Hunter a huge wolf plushie before they go.

Who broke it? : Coven Heads and EC edition
Terra: So, who broke it? I'm not mad, I just wanna know. Raine: I did. I broke- Terra: No, no you didn't. Kiki? Kikimora: Don't look at me! Look at Hunter! Hunter: What? I didn't break it! Kikimora: Hm, that's weird! How did you even know it was broken? Hunter: Because it's sitting right in front of us, and it's broken! Kikimora: Suspicious!
Hunter: No, it's not! Eber:If it matters, probably not, but Darius was the last one to use it! Darius: Liar! I don't even drink that crap! Eber: Really? Then what were you doing by the apple blood cart earlier? Darius: I use the wooden stirs to push back my cuticles, everyone knows that, mutt! Raine: Ok, ok, let's not fight. I broke it. Let me pay for it, Terra! Terra: No! Who broke it? Hunter: Terra? Lilith's been awfully quiet! Lilith: Really?! Hunter: Uh, yeah, really! Lilith: Oh my titan! Terra: I broke it. It burned my hand so I crushed it with plants. I predict 10 minutes from now they'll be at each other's thoats with war paint on their faces and a ratworm head on a stick! *looks into the room where Darius is already in his abomination form, Hunter and Lilith have their staffs drawn and Eber is growling* Terra: Good. It was getting a bit chummy around here!
