She hadn’t known what to expect.
J’onn had warned her, of course, before linking her mind with his- he’d told her that he would likely be mentally fragile, after what he’d been through, exposing himself to the radiation inside the Leviathan ship for the chance to save Kara and the others. And that was on top of what else he had been through, removing his inhibitors recently and having to put aside everything he held dear to work with Lex Luthor.
Yes, he certainly deserved to rest and heal, and that was what he was doing. But Kara still wanted to check on him, as he had once done for her what felt like so long ago, and after a while, J’onn relented.
She’d thought, based on her previous experience, that his mind palace would be someplace comforting to him, like his room in the Legion headquarters, or on his ship. It could have even been on Colu, before the incident he’d told her about.
Instead, she awoke inside a large room she didn’t recognize, and Brainy was nowhere to be seen.
All around her were boxes- different shapes and sizes, of course, and made of some materials that she recognized and some she suspected hadn’t been invented in her time, but boxes all the same, some standing on their own, some in neat columns, some piled up on one another, like they had been thrown there. Some were opened, some were sealed shut.
And, for some reason, she wasn’t the only living being aside from Brainy in this room with hexagonal patterns on the walls and floors. There was at least one cat, walking among the boxes, and with a smile, Kara got up to follow it.
When the cat stopped, she found Brainy, with another cat asleep in his lap.
“It’s you.” He said, smiling faintly- another echo of their first meeting.
“Yeah.” Kara answered, sitting down and letting the other cat rest by her side. “Can we talk?”
“I would like nothing more, Kara.”

How do fans engage with the source material when there’s already canonical queer representation?
Rachel Marks looks at the fandoms for the DC Comics TV shows (like Flash, Supergirl, Arrow, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), which have been including queer characters since 2014 when the characters Sara Lance and Nyssa al Ghul shared a kiss in Arrow. Marks finds:
Fans generally appreciate and care about queer representation in Legends, but they often overlook representation of people of color. For instance, pairings with characters of color get less attention.
Canon queer pairings get the most attention, but noncanonical pairings are still common.
“In sum, Legends fans show their appreciation for canon queer representation in television by frequently featuring canonically queer characters in their posts, highlighting the positive qualities of those characters and their relationships. Fans appreciate seeing multiple LGBT characters represented on television and get enjoyment out of seeing same-sex couples being couples on screen. However, this is not all they focus on when blogging or writing fic about their favorite characters or ships. Fans want to enjoy viewing canonically queer couples and queer characters on television, but they also want to enjoy alternative interpretations in which noncanonical ships are read for their subtextual elements. Fans simultaneously enjoy watching and creating content about a show that has canonical queer representation, while continuing the queer fan tradition of forming their own interpretations of queer characters and relationships.”

Um Hi, So I'm super late to the party when it comes to shipping Brainy and Kara but I really enjoyed your writing and was hoping you could recommend some stuff if you don't mind, please? Even the actual comics if you know which have them romantically involved? Again, really loved your works and hope to see more. Thank you. :)
Hi!! Welcome to the ship! And aw, thanks, I'm glad you liked my writing! I'm sorry there isn't more of it - I'm really bad at finishing things. 😩
But hmm, okay, Karadox recs. I have a few things in mind. This is going to get kinda long, so I'm just gonna put the rest under a cut, I think...
Okay! If you're looking for fics, @cyclone-rachel has written a lot of great stuff for Kara and Brainy (mostly the CW versions). I'm sure Rachel can recommend some more fic writers, too.
If you're looking for comics, I'd suggest Supergirl Annual #2 (2010) as a nice (mostly) one-off comic that focuses on the beginning of their relationship. Also Supergirl (2005) #52, which is technically part of a larger "Last Stand of New Krypton" arc, but I suppose it can be read on its own, and it has a lot of great Karadox stuff.
There are also some comics that you might not expect to have good Karadox content in them that actually do, such as the Legion of Super-Heroes/Bugs Bunny Special (2017) and the "Sugar & Spike" story from Legends of Tomorrow (2016) #6. You can also read the "House of Kent" arc in Action Comics (2016) #1022-#1028 if you want, because Kara and Brainy are both featured in most of those issues. They don't interact as much as I personally would've liked, but they have some nice moments, and there was definitely some romantic setup happening towards the end.
Supergirl & the Legion of Super-Heroes (2006) is another option, but be warned that Kara and Brainy are NOT romantically involved in that version of the Legion (Brainy was paired up with Dream Girl's ghost instead... it was a whole thing) so their dynamic isn't as good as it normally is. But they do at least interact a lot.
Honestly, the majority of Kara and Brainy's comic romance took place before Crisis on Infinite Earths (meaning pre-1985), and I haven't actually read most of those older comics yet, just bits and pieces here and there. Someone like @supergirltastic would be a much better person to ask for those specific comic recommendations.
Oh! You should also DEFINITELY watch the new Legion of Super-Heroes animated movie if you haven't yet! It's basically Karadox: The Movie™ lol, it was a lot of fun and had fantastic writing for both of them. Unfortunately it's not on HBO Max yet though, so to watch it you'll either have to buy/rent it or, uh, y'know... 🏴☠️
And make sure you watch the "Far From Home" episode of Justice League Unlimited (season 3, episode 10) too! It's basically a 20-minute speed-run of Kara and Brainy's relationship and it's veryyy cute. (It's also one of the only stories I can think of that gives them a happy ending.)
Anyway, that's all I've got for now! I hope this was helpful!! I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff, but in my defense it's almost 2 AM right now lol.

its going to be so funny when you finished the entire show then start watching season 2-3. A LOT happened around that time. maybe i should try that with supergirl. watch the rift first, rip the bandaid off then watch supercorp fluff in the first seasons. i dont think there was anything significant, really? they did mention it in the show once or twice. idk if its bc of how much they disliked each other, fought over the same boy or quinn was soft for rachel berry somehow. i honestly forgot. i feel like a fraud now.
if you’re gonna skip i say start with season 3. i liked that season’s storyline a lot and that’s when they made katie a regular so lena is there a lot more. although there are some iconic supercorp moments in season 2, too. i honestly enjoyed every season except maybe season 6. it had its moments but overall it is definitely my least favorite season
i have a friend who ships faberry and i remember seeing them tweet about a line one of them said and it sounded like the gayest shit i’d ever heard but i can’t remember what it was now. i’m sure i’ll figure it out when i inevitably go back and watch it

okay, well today was alright. alarm went off bright and early at 7:45 am and getting up was quite the struggle but I made it happen. Got up and got dressed in time for the 8:21 bus, because there can never be the 8:30 bus that would actually work with my timeline *sigh*. made it to church with about ten minutes to spare (since I had to take the bus ten minutes before what would’ve made me on time) and hung out in the kids team volunteer lounge for a few before the huddle. It was set to be just me and one other girl in the babies for this service, which shouldn’t be bad. Since it’s the middle service which is the most popular they have the babies and walkers in different rooms, whereas for the other services they generally combine them. When it comes to the babies room I always say it’s either everything’s calm and perfect or everyone’s screaming and something’s on fire. Well, today was one of the latter days unfortunately. I was holding this little boy who was crying for so long, and I’d get him to stop only for him to start again totally unprompted two minutes later. It got to the point where we would normally call his parents, but due to some weird technical glitch we didn’t have his parent’s phone number (they’re generally printed on their name tags so we can easily contact them) so we had to just wait it out. And contagious crying was in full swing, so it was pretty much always at least 2 babies crying at any given time. so that was a lot, but we survived. Once we were all finished I was told there was cake in the volunteer lounge (lol) leftover from the couple who runs the kids ministry’s daughter’s 3rd birthday party the day before and it was all fancy like made from a bakery and everything and damn it was good cake lol, so I was basically shoving that in my mouth and then running to the service. My lack of sleep definitely hit me hard while sitting listening to the message, and I was struggling to keep my eyes open for quite a bit of it. I thought I had a pack of caffeinated gum in my purse (and I later found out I did) but I couldn’t find it for my life so I just had to survive. It was the time of year though when someone from team World Vision comes to talk about getting people to do the Chicago Marathon with them and raise money for their efforts to bring clean water and so much more to communities living in poverty in Africa and beyond. I have a soft spot for their organization after what I like to call “The World Vision Incident” that happened in March 2014 and is the reason I very intentionally dropped the world “evangelical” in referring to myself (I won’t get into the details now because I’ll get infuriated and never shut up, but suffice to say it left me absolutely horrified as to the behavior of the “Christians” involved) and has led to me sponsoring a child through them (her name is Retseplie, she lives in Lesotho, Africa, she is 13 years old and shares my birthday of March 26th). Sadly running a marathon is very strictly off the table for me being that my lungs can’t work properly when I run, but I always appreciate their challenge and love that many of my fellow churchgoers do take on the challenge. The sermon itself was fairly well related, starting a new series called “Loveworks” which is also the title of our like outreach team that organizes events giving back to the community here and everywhere, so we were talking about how if you’re not helping the poor you are very much not doing what the bible has instructed you to do and stuff like that, I probably would’ve recalled more if I wasn’t fighting to stay awake but not much I can do about it now (I may relisten to it when it pops up as a podcast episode in a day or two). Once church was over I headed out, taking the train to the bus home. I quickly changed out of my nice church clothes, then ate my leftovers from the cheesecake factory last night, the food portion anyway, I left the cheesecake for later on. For most of the afternoon I worked on little things I needed to get done including doing the dishes which had become a massive pile that was beginning to smell, and that’s really rank so we needed to put a stop to that for sure. It was quite the pile so it ended up taking a solid hour or two, but I felt very accomplished when I finally finished it. I put them all away after that and had to soak a few in hot water and soap because they still smelled really musty and gross, but thankfully that worked rather well. I eventually sat down on the couch with my cheesecake and some bubble tea I made and watched last week’s Supergirl episode since I hadn’t gotten around to that yet and wanted to be able to watch tonight’s episode, which I did shortly after finishing last week’s, in between which I watched a bit of “Ellen’s Game of Games” which is fucking hilarious. Overall reaction through the two episodes- ugh, I wish they’d just drop the children of liberty storyline already, it’s so fucking cringeworthy and it really was so unnecessary, we could’ve had such a good full season villain in Lex and red sun Kara. Of course it doesn’t help that I already have a strong dislike for Sam Witwer (RIP Jimmy) and any character he plays. I did like the few moments they had with his son when he runs into his friend at the raid of the alien bar and he starts questioning things, and ultimately ends up reaching out to his friend to try to help him. Of course now I’m sure it won’t help that his mom apparently just got killed by an alien, but I mean, if you’re going around acting like a giant asshole and actively endangering the lives of thousands of aliens living peacefully like....sorry buddy, but you brought that on yourself. I liked that we got to see some more of Kara Danvers and not just Supergirl, especially when she actually gets to do some reporting. The interview with Dreamer at the end was so damn good, I was actually on the verge of tears watching it, it was really excellent. I loved Kara and Lena teaming up to search for clues about Lex and what all they end up finding. I thought the brief flashback with the two Luthor siblings was very interesting, up to this point I don’t think I’ve seen anything suggesting that Lex was ever protective over Lena in any way really, so that was surprising but also kind of nice to see. I felt bad for Lena at the end when she was confessing to Kara that she had been helping Lex because she believed he was terminally ill, and I’m just like Lena, sweetie, this was not your fault, and I’m glad Kara was there to say it. So yeah, overall not bad episodes but this season still isn’t doing much for me. Once that was over I switched over to netflix and watched a few more episodes of the family baking showdown show I just started which was quite entertaining, and I pretty much watched those until I showered and started getting ready for bed, and now I am here, and did I mention I’m tired? so yeah. Tomorrow plan is to make it to the post office to mail the international autograph and to Target to pick up my prescription from Friday at the allergist, the two are on the same road so I should be able to figure something out. Until then, I will be getting some sleep. Goodnight loves. Hope your Monday doesn’t suck.

For anyone who doesn’t know, the technique that Alex used by turning her pants into a life jacket is a real technique taught to the US Marines for surviving at sea without a floatation device!! I was actually super impressed to see a real legitimate survival approach for alex staying alive in that tank of water.
For those wondering how it works, the steps for when treading water with no rescue expected for a little while are:
1. Take off your pants. The thicker the material, the better. Jeans work really well.
2. Zip or button up the pants if applicable.
3. Tie the bottoms of the legs together in a knot.
4. Grab the pants by the waist and hold the waist open.
5. Put your hands and the pants behind your head and then swing them forward, letting air fill the pant legs through the waist-hole, and bring your hands under the water, still holding the waist. This is to trap air in the pants itself. Do this multiple times to maximize the amount of air in the legs.
6. Once you feel you have enough air, put your head through the legs so that the knot you made is on the back of your neck.
7. Hold the waist closed with one hand while using the other to signal/wave and keep the pant legs wet so they retain air.
8. Air will inevitably escape from your pants, but when that happens you can just take them off and repeat steps 4-7.
As you could see in the episode, it actually can save your life if you’re in open water, as treading water can be extremely tiring. This technique will conserve your energy so you can last as long as needed before you’re rescued. Hope this is interesting/helpful!!!

i heard not everyone was a fan of season 6 too. i wish i could say im brave enough to actually skip seasons but my brain might not be able to handle all the questions. my brain is weird like that but def taking that into consideration. i swear i had glee lines memorized at the top of my head but the last time i saw glee was 6-7 years ago?? i think it was the nosejob ep where quinn & rachel got close. so much tension. im gonna end up rewatching glee & watching supergirl at the same time to see if my brain could handle it.
season 6 was just all over the place and i really did not like what they did with lena. and listen i say start from the beginning. but IF you wanted to skip, that’s what i’d do. i only skipped seasons in glee because otherwise i may have never gotten to melissa’s seasons and i really wanted to see them
