But when disaster strikes and all of demon-kind is threatened, Meesh must journey to other worlds in search of help. As luck would have it, she meets a fairy princess right away. Top 15 Portrayals of Peter Pan
Tumblr media
A while back, in 2021 - in celebration of the 110th anniversary of “Peter Pan” - I posted a list of my favorite portrayals of the villain of the story, Captain Hook. Earlier this year, I updated that same list. I said then that, even as a kid, I always liked Hook more than his nemesis, the titular Peter. While this is true, I do think it’s important to state that, as much as I may love the dastardly pirate Pan battles constantly…this does not mean Peter is a bad character. I think that Peter Pan gets a bad rap a lot nowadays, mostly because, if you read the original book…Peter is kind of a little psychopath. He’s sort of a little tyrant, threatening to kill or banish anybody who doesn’t do what he wants, and refusing to listen to reason when people try to help him or keep him under control. And that’s the entire point: Barrie’s story originally didn’t HAVE Hook. The original idea behind what would become “Peter and Wendy” was that Pan was a representation of both everything good AND everything bad about childhood: he is not necessarily EVIL, but he is stuck perpetually in a state of infantile, underdeveloped youth. He’s brash, cocky, and has a LOT of power that I don’t think even he is fully aware of. There’s a lot of mystery surrounding Peter, which actually makes him more fascinating to adults than I think many might realize. Peter’s arc in the story is one of coming to grips with emotions he’s never experienced before, and taking up a kind of responsibility he’s always tried to deny in the past. He’s much more dynamic and more interesting than many people give him credit. I’ve been in a Peter Pan mood lately, so I decided…what the heck? I might as well give a bit of a spotlight to some of my favorite portrayals of the Boy Who Never Grows Up that have come around over the years. (On that note, there has long been a tradition, particularly in stage shows, of women playing Peter, so there will be some ladies included here. Don’t you dare whine about it, they’re absolutely awesome.) Some of these versions stick to the ambiguity of Barrie’s original, while others make Pan either more heroic or more villainous depending on interpretation. There’s a lot of ways you can go with the idea of an eternal child, both idealistic and cynical. So, think Happy Thoughts, everyone, and don’t forget the pixie dust! Here are My Top 15 Favorite Portrayals of Peter Pan!
15. Sandy Duncan, from the Styne-Charlap Musical. (The most famous stage musical version of the story; Duncan first played Peter in a 1979 Revival of the show on Broadway.)
Tumblr media
14. Greg Tannahill, from Peter Pan Goes Wrong.
Tumblr media
13. Petermon, from Digimon: Ghost Game. (Yeah. Peter Pan as a Digimon. That weirdness speaks for itself.)
Tumblr media
12. Mia Farrow, from the 1976 TV Musical.
Tumblr media
11. The Version from “Peter and the Starcatchers.” (I’m referring specifically to the books; there is a stage version based on the first book, but I haven’t seen it for various reasons. I love the original books, though. This is probably one of the “nicest” versions of Peter on the list, for lack of a better description.)
Tumblr media
10. Robin Williams, from Hook. (Come now, you all knew he had to be here somewhere.)
Tumblr media
9. The Version from “Alias, Hook.” (Without going into detail, this really shows how scary a Barrie-accurate Peter can be without much real change.)
Tumblr media
8. Charlie Rowe, from SyFy’s Neverland.
Tumblr media
7. Betty Bronson, from the 1924 Film.
Tumblr media
6. Robbie Kay, from Once Upon a Time. (By far the most evil version of Peter Pan ever made, at least that I've discovered.)
Tumblr media
5. Mary Martin, from the Styne-Charlap Musical. (She originated the part on Broadway, starting in 1954.)
Tumblr media
4. Cathy Rigby, ALSO from the Styne-Charlap Musical. (She’s been playing the role off and on since the 1970s - no joke, look it up - with her most recent stint being in 2015. She was in her sixties then! Talk about Never Growing Up!)
Tumblr media
3. Jason Marsden, from Peter Pan and the Pirates.
Tumblr media
2. Jeremy Sumpter, from the 2003 Film.
Tumblr media
1. The Disney Version. (Originally played by Bobby Driscoll; this one wins out mostly just because this is the first version I think of when I think of Peter as a character, and because I think the various spin-offs and such have really helped to make him a more likable protagonist over time, while still keeping him true to his established persona.)

Kind of a Buddy of Mine
14.8k | Mature | DeanCas
It’s been sixty-five days since they left Alliance, and Cas is still seven inches tall. He's the one thing that Jesse Turner didn't put back to normal before he took off for greener pastures, and Dean figures he's holding a grudge. On some level, he can’t really blame him. Cas did try to kill the kid, after all. Still, it does seem kinda harsh to have left Cas looking like G.I. Joe’s Corporate Cousin for the rest of forever. With the apocalypse looming, Dean is determined to find a solution.
Sitting at a bar in Harrisonburg, Virginia, Dean slips Cas from the inside pocket of his jacket and carefully turns him around in his hands. He’s not sure why he’s bothering. It has to be two dozen times that he’s checked him over for some clue he missed this week alone, and it's not as though something new is going to just pop into existence after two months of nothing, but... well. The latest lead they had went absolutely nowhere, and he’s gotta do something.
It's been sixty-five days, now. He’s trying not to worry that this is gonna be permanent. He’s really fucking trying.
Since they left Alliance, he and Sam have checked out anything and everything that looked like it might have been remotely connected to Jesse in the hope that if they could just talk to him again, they might convince him to put Cas back to normal. Every single time it’s turned out to be something else.
First time was pixies. Second was a witch. Their latest lead, the one that first brought them to Virginia a few days ago, ended up being the work of some kind of malevolent trickster whose entire shtick was making you think you'd almost achieved some long-wanted goal, just to rug-pull and create utter chaos once he had you on board. Worst possible hunt they could've found themselves on right now, as far as Dean's concerned. He's fucking wiped. Mentally exhausted. One more false lead away from straight up having a total emotional breakdown.
Sam didn't even argue when Dean said he needed to grab a drink before he could think about packing up their motel room. He'd just nodded, and clapped Dean on the back, and headed for the passenger seat, still smelling faintly of lighter fluid thanks to the sage-and-flambe method it had taken to deal with their monster of the week.
That was all of twenty minutes ago.
Now, Dean is ordering beers at the first bar they happened upon, while Sam is outside in the parking lot finishing up a call with Bobby, his collar turned up against the lightly falling snow.
At least, Dean plans to order beers, just as soon as the bartender stops chatting up some other patron at the opposite end of the bar. Until then, he takes the time to look at Cas some more. Carefully, he raises and lowers his arms. Lifts up his coat to check if there's a clue hidden in the lining.
When he turns him back around, he notices a smudge of something on his face, high up on his plastic cheek bone, just below his bright blue left eye. Dirt, maybe. Or ash from the hunt. Dean licks the pad of his thumb and gingerly rubs it away, only remembering after he’s done it that Cas might very well be conscious of what’s happening. He grimaces.
“That never happened,” he mutters, just in case, and hears a snort from behind the bar. When he looks up, he finds the bartender has finally come to take his order. He's looking at Dean with a raised brow and an amused tilt to his mouth.
“Nice doll.”
“He’s not a doll,” Dean says, a little sharper than he intended, and the guy’s eyebrow lifts even higher. Right. Probably not the best thing to say if he doesn’t want to seem like a weirdo. He clears his throat and makes a cursory attempt at backtracking. “He’s, uh. It’s an action figure.”
[keep reading on Ao3]

you got any indie comics recommendations?
OH BOY DO I
So some of these are educational graphic novels bc of who I am as a person but they're SUPER GOOD and you should still read them - but here's my list of recommendations in no particular order
Marie Curie: A Quest for Light (a graphic novel bio of the famous scientist that highlights her politics!)
Folklords (only 5 issues, does some really cool stuff with subverted fantasy tropes, Ansel is a cutie, 8/10)
The Magicians (this is based on the book series by Lev Grossman, and if you're familiar with the FX show you already know the premise, but it's VERY FUN and I like it so it's on here)
The Good Neighbors (this is more of a YA vibe and as the title suggests deals with fae nonsense, very fun)
Something is Killing the Children (some other comics go along with this one like House of Slaughter, all are in the horror genre, and it's a GREAT TIME if you're into that sort of thing)
Shubeik Lubeik (THIS IS A REALLY COOL BOOK ABOUT WISHES AND HOW THOSE WOULD LOOK IN A MORE REALISTIC CAIRO AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH)
Pixies of the Sixties (this is a period piece that deals with things like xenophobia and racism while also playing up the aesthetics of 1960s London and fairies)
Now Let Me Fly: A Portrait of Eugene Bullard (a graphic novel bio of the first African-American fighter pilot)
Little Monsters (a horror story about children vampires in a post apocalyptic setting)
Judas (yes, Iscariot, it's a really fascinating look at the Biblical figure)
Heavy Vinyl (wlw, late 90s record store, teen girl vigilante fight club- good times)
Grimm (based on the NBC show of the same name, there are other titles set in this world too, I'm very fond of this extremely trashy fairtytale-cop show mashup and how poorly it represents cops)
Godshaper (there's a god for every person, except one and he teams up with a god who doesn't have a person and together they travel around looking for a warm welcome and a paying rock gig)
Evita, the Life and Work of Eva Perón (a biography of the former Argentinian first lady)
Eat the Rich (a little bit like Knives Out)
Carmilla: The First Vampire (queer feminist murder mystery inspired by the gothic novel, Carmilla, and pulling from Chinese folklore)
Bone Parish (a necromantic horror story about the rich peddling drugs made with the ashes of the deceased)
Blue Book (true tales of ordinary people encountering the strange and impossible - ex. alien abductions)
Art Brut (equal parts police procedural, hyper-fantasy, and psychological thriller set on a backdrop of a trip through art history)
Aristotle (biography of the philosopher dealing with more than just his ideas)
Alienated (a story about having the power to change the world but not being ready to wield that power- more YA vibes but a good read for any age imo)
Abbott (and Abbott: 1973- a tabloid reporter investigates grisly crimes she knows the police have ignored and that she knows are occult in origin)

Hello! I just finished your fic The Couple Down the Street and absolutely adored it! I read though all of your ficlets here on Tumblr with that tag, and I saw you have some about kid Piper and one about teen Piper. I was wondering if you’d be open to writing something about adult twenty-something Piper and Herbert/Dan when she’s in med school or university or whatever she ends up doing! :)
"Come on," Piper murmured, pacing the tiny floor space of her dorm room. "Pick up, pick up..."
After five rings she assumed her call would, yet again, go to voicemail, but a voice miraculously crackled to life on the other side.
"Hello?" Herbert replied, sounding grouchy as ever. "What is it?"
Piper sighed with relief and sat down at her desk. "Dr. West, hi. How are you?"
"Busy," Herbert grunted. She could make out the muffled sounds of groaning on his end, followed by Dr. Cain's miffed voice asking Herbert to pass him more restraints. "Is this important? What do you want?"
"Um, sorry. I just wanted to make sure you were still picking me up from the airport tomorrow? You didn't respond to any of my texts."
There was a momentary pause before Herbert replied, "Dan said he'd do it."
Piper thought she heard Dan's voice in the background, piping up, "Did I?"
Piper bit her lip to keep it steady and tucked some of her long, blonde hair behind her ear. She'd been thinking about cutting it for a while, maybe giving herself an Anne Hathaway style pixie cut by watching a tutorial on Youtube, but she knew her mom would throw a fit if she came home for Christmas practically bald. She'd probably lament that her blonde genes were wasted on Piper and what a shame they hadn't been passed onto Candace instead. Just the thought of her sister's smug face had Piper rolling her eyes.
"Can you please just get me?" she asked, rubbing at her eyes with the hand not cradling her cell phone to her ear. "I don't fly in 'til six."
Herbert clicked his tongue and she could perfectly imagine his irritated expression. Or maybe she couldn't. With her away at college, studying pre-med, she'd only been able to see him a handful of times each year. Every time she saw him in person, she was surprised at how old he looked. He was only sixty-one, hardly the decrepit old man Dan joked he was, but every new liver spot, every deepened wrinkle, every white hair made her chest tighten with anxiety. They were physical signs of all the time she was missing out on. Time away from him.
Her first choice of college had been Miskatonic University, so she could follow in Herbert's footsteps, but Dan had been adamantly opposed. Herbert had suggested he could set her up with some of the contacts he stilled maintained in Zurich, where she could get a world-class education, but the thought of being out of the country, so far from everything had made Piper cold with dread. So, they had compromised on a newly furnished university in Washington, where Piper was only a few hours by plane away.
A plane she would be catching shortly, unbeknownst to her mother. Piper hadn't told her mom she'd be coming home for the long weekend, wanting to spend every moment she could with her mentor, catching up on lost time both in and out of the lab. She'd scraped together the money to buy the plane ticket by writing out essays for her classmates on the side. She knew Herbert would have a field day if he knew she was putting her academic integrity at risk, but when needs must and all that.
"I don't see why you can't just get a taxi," Herbert said. "It'd be more convenient-"
"You promised!" Piper snapped, irritation finally getting the better of her. She squeezed her phone tight in her clammy grip. "Just like you promised you'd come visit me over spring break, which you never did. So, could you please just do this one thing for me and pick me up tomorrow?"
"Fine, fine," Herbert sighed, sounding exasperated. "But if your flight gets delayed, I'm not hanging around."
Piper's foul mood immediately evaporated. "Okay!" she replied cheerily. "See you then."
Herbert hung up without saying goodbye, as was customary for him, and Piper set her phone down with a smile. She glanced up at the photos pinned to the corkboard above her desk, some of the only things she'd brought with her to college from home.
One was a recent shot of her and her dad the last time she'd gone to visit him in the nursing home. Another was her excitedly holding up her pet gecko, Hela, on her sixteenth birthday. Dan was in the shot beside her, shying away from the reptile Herbert had gifted her. Hela sat in her tank now, on the edge of Piper's desk, basking under her heat lamp.
The last photo was taken during her high school graduation ceremony. Piper was in her hat and gown, squeezing her diploma in both hands and grinning at the camera. On one side of her stood Herbert, his hand resting on her shoulder. He wasn't smiling but pride shone clearly in his eyes. On her other side stood her mother, Mandy, who was glaring at Herbert over Piper's head. It had been a miracle to even get them standing that close to each other without the both of them engaging in passive aggressive psychological warfare.
It was Piper's favourite photo.
"That your sugar daddy?"
Piper jumped in her seat and spun around to see her roommate, Claire, slipping her shoes off in the doorway. Piper hadn't even heard her come in.
Squeezing her phone in her fist, Piper gagged. "Shut up. Oh, my god. How many times to I have to tell you? He's my mentor."
"Mmhmm," Claire hummed, bouncing her eyebrows suggestively and making Piper want to hurl her phone straight at her head.
Instead, she huffed and spun back around in her chair, pulling her laptop open. She'd have to get busy and finish all her studying before flying out tomorrow. Just the thought that she'd be back in Ohio the next day, Dr. West waiting for her at the airport, was enough to warm her up and make her smile.

High Altitude ✈️ 💒
A Klaus Hargreeves x Dave Katz AU
Tumblr media
*taps microphone* Hello? Is this thing on?
Woo! I’m back with another instalment of The Klave Air AU Nobody Asked For! ✈️❤️
First, an apology; I’m sure you all thought this fic had been abandoned due to how delayed this update has been. Rest assured, I’ve been chipping away at this chapter the whole time and I’m hopeful it will have been worth the wait.
It’s been a super rough couple of months for old Salv and I really appreciate every single one of you who has taken the time to read, comment on and kudos this story. Your interactions are little rays of light through the clouds and I love you all. ❤️🥲
Special thanks to @allisoooon for beta services and the incredible Photoshop of Bride!Lila
Enjoy, my little chickadees! Xx
Snippet from Chapter 7: Ladies and gentlemen, the Captain has turned on the fasten seat belt sign
“Is it okay?” Lila takes a step back and looks down at her outfit, an ice-white A-line minidress embellished with silver sequins, coupled with a pair of white leather pixie boots.
“You look…” Klaus fumbles for the words. The ensemble has a sort of sixties feel to it, offset by a small pillbox hat and a delicate fishnet veil that hovers over her eyes. “Incredible,” he finishes.
“Really?” Lila looks down again and smoothes out the imaginary wrinkles. She looks so different. Granted, the look is a huge departure from her usual grungy attire - ripped leggings and safety pins in her ears, check kilts and Doc Martin’s with paint on them - but there’s something else there too. She looks nervous.
Klaus reaches out and takes her by the shoulders, bringing his eyes to hers. “You look like Jackie O’s prettier sister. I might just have to marry you myself.”
That seems to quell her jitters, if only momentarily. Klaus thrusts a shot under her nose and she downs it without hesitation.
“Okay, pre-flight checks. Do you have your something old?”
Lila thinks for a moment then points to the hat on her head. “Picked it up at a vintage store.”
“Something new?”
“The dress.”
“Something borrowed?”
Lila cringes. “No. But is it really that important?”
“Yes! It’s bad luck otherwise.” Klaus reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small square packet. “Here,” he says, pressing it into her palm and wrapping her fingers around it. “Take this.”
Lila opens her fist. “A condom?”
“Yes. And it’s blue too!”
“Will this even work?”
“Oh, I doubt it. I’m pretty sure it’s expired.”

The Best Album Per Year for Sixty Years
Tumblr media
No-one asked for it, of course, but I do like making lists, so here's me pondering what have been the best Long Players in the album artform the past 60 years. I originally tried to keep it to just one per year, but many years that proved impossible: when listing multiple albums I have tried ranking them with the one I feel narrowly edges out the others first, and I use lower case to indicate an album that is not at the same level as others on the list but was the best I've heard from that time.
Feel free to have fun with the list and make up your own.

Top 5 fictional characters :-)
Jimmy McGill. Man is like seven characters in one, so it's not really a decent competition, but regardless. I relate so hard to his dissociating out of his dealing with any of the trauma he goes through, the fact that only two people are the loves of his life, that bind of being an attention whore but constantly hiding at the same time, monogamous but constantly being compared to a sex worker and the hope that he can have a decent life in his later years, getting out at sixty and making a home with Kim, even though he'll be seen as Saul Goodman by the outside world until he dies.
Harley Quinn. I don't know what to say even, it's like she's half of my personality and has always been there.
Dennis Reynolds. Dee is my fave out of IASIP, but he's second, and I just love that he's an accurate depiction of BPD (yeah sure it was based off five minutes of therapy, but he fits it a lot better than Reddit's "oh they meant ASPD and just got it wrong"), I love that he's an insult to RL pick up artists and sitcom douchebags like Barney/Joey but you also see the poison that has eroded everything. Also he's funny and pretty when he's a mess. :) plus gotta love him being in love with his twin sister and her secretly being in love back.
The Doctor: specifically the continuity from 11 to 12 to 13. From Manic Pixie Nightmare Man who tells his companions that they couldn't hope to ever play games on him, to grandpa who gradually gets more wifeguy and refuses to deal with his last minute trauma so becomes a stepford bitey tiny blonde lady who took that advice to never ever think about anything dark.
Kendall Roy: what being groomed from seven years old will do to a guy.
