Surprise adoption
Warning: Mentions of violence, non consensual hypnosis and kidnapping.
Tumblr media
Even as a young kid, the forest always creeped you out. With all the urban legends about monsters roaming around, hunters disappearing or ending up gravely injured, it certainly didn’t help your bias against it.
So imagine your horror that your older brother, Izuku wanted to take you on a little expedition in the damn place. You and Izuku were orphaned, but were generously taken in my Toshinori, head hunter and beloved icon of your town.
Whereas you preferred to stray clear from all the gritty things hunting entailed, Izuku was fully invested in it.
“I wanna go home, please Izuku?” You asked, hands tightly clutching your clothes.
The moon hung overhead, sounds of chirping from birds, water flowing through streams and crunching of leaves highlighted your surroundings.
Izuku looked at you, his hand reassuringly patting your H/C locks.
“Don’t worry Y/N! Just one more thing and then we can go back.” He said, handing you the lantern.
You frowned as the two of you walked on. One thing Izuku noticed was how pungent the air was over here, it reeked of venom and rot. He cracked out his notebook from his satchel, quickly writing it down. “How weird.” He muttered, you huffed.
“Izuku, it smells over here.” You whined, visibly cringing at seeing a rabbit’s skull.
“D-do you think we might be in naga territory?” You asked, Izuku’s breath hitched at the possibility. Ah, naga. Fearsome creatures with deplorable reputations to boot. Half man, half serpent.
Toshinori once recounted his encounter with a naga once, who was bold enough to attack him head on. Long fangs, red eyes that rivaled rubies, shaggy blue hair.
Many legends circulated about this particular naga, especially about his thirst for destruction and murder. Izuku looked down at you, a friendly smile on his face.
“Probably not, it’s probably just some poisonous frogs or something. But even if it was, I would never let them hurt you.” He assured, you felt a little better.
“We’ll sock them in their faces and skin them for boots!” You announced, Izuku nervously smiled.
“Probably not sis.”
Another notable thing about naga is how some tended to hunt at night, at least Tomura Shigaraki did. The most feared creature in the jungle, by man and beast alike.
It didn’t help that he was accompanied by his equally violent and dangerous mate, Dabi. A alluring, handsome creature but equally deadly.
Blue and black scales slithered across the floor, as the two searched for a late night snack. “Seriously Tomura, I don’t know why you insist on doing this at night. It’s too damn late for this.” Dabi complained, Tomura regarded his mate with a mere look.
“The big and juicy rabbits tend to come out at this time of night. Besides, those stupid, fucking hunters drive away our larger game.” He said, sniffing the air.
Dabi shrugged, his mate did have a point. Possums, sloths and the occasional taste of human flesh wasn’t cutting it. “I thought that those dumbasses would take the hint from the last time.”
Shigaraki gave a raspy chuckle. He really outdid himself that time, they still had the chunk from the hunters leg in the den! “You’re quite the sadistic bastard.” Dabi said in a loving way.
“Which is why you mated with me~” Shigaraki taunted, nuzzling Dabi’s face before narrowing his eyes and sniffed the air again.
“What? What do smell?” Dabi asked before sniffing the air himself. Humans, filthy humans. Shigaraki loathed them, Dabi loathed them.
The two followed the scent, eventually finding themselves in a tree, spying on you and Izuku.
“Oh, it’s Toshinori’s brat.” Shigaraki hissed, his rattle shaking slightly. His hate died down a little once he saw you, clutching onto Izuku’s hand as he gave you some facts.
Oh, how you looked utterly adorable to him. Shigaraki and Dabi had been wanting some hatchings of their own, as nagas tended to feel that way. “She’s precious.” Dabi muttered, a paternal spark igniting in him.
Shigaraki nodded, turning towards his mate. “I’ll go greet our guests.” He said, slowly slinking into view.
“Well now, it’s a hunter in training!” You froze at hearing the raspy voice, Izuku flinched as well. He turned around and was met with the sight of the naga. “GAH!” Izuku yelped, nearly dropping his lantern as you gave a yelp.
“Now now, there’s no need to be scared.” Shigaraki said, Izuku frowned whilst you hid behind your brother. “I’m a friend, always eager to assist with a weary traveler.” He assured, his red eyes looking at you.
You whimpered and hid behind Izuku. “Aw, what’s a little cherub like you doing out so late?” Tomura cooed, Izuku cleared his throat. “Back off, we don’t need your assistance. Besides, we all know what you really want.”
Shigaraki’s eyes narrowed, Toshinori sure knew how to raise a stubborn brat. “Oh? Would you mind telling me then?” Shigaraki taunted, inching closer to Izuku.
Their noses barely touching. Izuku could smell the venom from Shigaraki’s breath, he remained firm. “Tsk, tsk, so stubborn.” Shigaraki said, his tail prodding at you softly.
You yelped as Izuku stood protectively in front of you. “L-leave us alone!” He snapped, Shigaraki didn’t flinch, only giving an amused look.
“You must be so tired, let me fix that.” The naga purred, inching closer from his branch perch. Izuku instinctively stepped back as you hid behind your brother. “No need for the fear fawns, you’ll fear as right as rain once we’re through..” Shigaraki assured, his voice raspy yet sweet. Like candy covered poison.
Shigaraki had a variety of powers but his most useful one was hypnosis. Often used to ensnare his victims into a state of calmness. It was his method to use if he was feeling lazy. Izuku stepped forward, a dagger in hand. Oh, how naive was this poor boy? No worries, Shigaraki and Dabi could make it right.
Izuku attempted to speak but nothing came out, his body felt heavy, all thoughts of resentment, escape and fear slowly melted away. It was like he was trapped inside his own body. His mouth felt unusually dry, like it was stuffed with cotton. Yet, he felt nice? Oddly relaxed even. His joints went relaxed and posture was lazy, his legs felt like jello.
“Izuku?!” You cried, tugging on your brother’s clothes. “Zuku!” You helplessly whined. Shigaraki frowned before inching closer, Izuku couldn’t hear you. He stumbled around like a newly born deer before ultimately dropping his weapon and almost collapsed to the floor himself. If it wasn’t for a black tail with horrifying purple scars, which caught him with ease, it wrapped around your brother’s torso. Much to your horror, you attempted to run but Shigaraki tripped you and swiftly coiled his tail around your ankle. The flaky and rough scales dug into your skin, causing you to whimper and wince at the pain.
“Don’t worry fawn, he’s alright and soon, you’ll be too.” Shigaraki said, quickly ensnaring you in his power as well. You weakly fought back as your defiant words withered away into weak whines and squirms. Your body eventually succumbed to Shigaraki’s control, your vision hazy and eyes droopy. “Zuku..” You muttered softly. You wanted to go home, the smell of the venom and dirt made you sick.
You craved the crisp vanilla and poppy smell of Toshinori’s manor. To be tucked into your bed, surrounded by the comforts of knowing that the monsters couldn’t get you.
“Aw, my sweet hatchling.” Shigaraki crooned, picking you up and cradling you. He nuzzled you, obviously excited to bring you to his nest. Dabi joined Shigaraki’s side, a lazy smirk on his face.
“She’s quite precious.” He mused, kissing Shigaraki’s cheek. “But, what about her brother?” The two looked at Izuku, who was still in Dabi’s grip. The black haired male frowned. Izuku kinda reminded him of someone he desperately wanted to forget. Shigaraki handed you over to Dabi before taking Izuku in his own grip. He regarded his mate with a devious smile, his fangs on display and crimson eyes filled with satisfaction and plotting.
“Well, you know what they say, two is always better than one.”
You and Izuku should’ve stayed home

I don’t think it’s right to say young Toshi decided to be of service to others, and bury himself beneath “All Might,” simply because he couldn’t find another role in society for his quirkless self. He recognized very early on that “everyone’s got a tough time” and everyone is busy looking out for themselves, which meant the status quo was unlikely to change. Toshi was the weirdo who couldn’t accept that.
Tumblr media
From his very beginning, Toshi is built different. He’s tall and blonde and orphaned and quirkless and questions everything about the way the world works. Although he’s polite, nothing about Toshi fits in with Japanese society. He’s just not like the other boys, yet in his Toshi way, he turns that into an advantage. He won’t ever find joy being like others or “fitting in” because he was made to stand out. When Toshi tells Nana, “A quirkless guy like me has no role otherwise,” he’s not rejecting the society that rejected him, and he’s not desperate to fit in. He’s saying he is the perfect person to change the world because he’s not leashed to any societal expectations.
Toshi doesn’t have a “three-meter radius” to protect like other people with homes or families. He’s not destined to do something like take over his father’s business. He’s not too busy looking out for himself. Unlike everyone else, he has the time and youthful exuberance to care about others. He knows nobody is going to draft a quirkless kid into a battle. Yet he was so incensed by the world around him that he “refused to sit on the sidelines” anyway. He’s calling up himself.
Toshinori’s lack of limits startles Nana at first. Not only does he follow her like a lost puppy, his second sentence to her is, “Let me help/assist you.” Let HIM (the quirkless child) help HER (the adult pro hero)?!?!? (Who is this kid???) When she initially turns him away, he says he’s not chasing her for help avenging his family. He really wants to break the cycle of loss and grief for others. Then Nana challenges Toshi’s true motivations, asking, “so what would you do to change the world?” and to her surprise he sets out a coherent plan for creating a Symbol of Peace. (What child walks around with an audacious yet plausible vision for changing the entire freaking world???) Nana challenges Toshi one last time, sarcastically asking if he’d put on a big show of force or grand display of power, knowing he’s quirkless. And the madlad STILL answers yes, continuing to insist he’s the perfect candidate to put on such a show.
All Might always emphasized the joy of volunteer work and helping others without being asked, even when others didn’t quite catch his main message. He specifically researched and chose a physical task with a public benefit and no public recognition for Izuku’s 10 months of training. He could have bought a secret gym space! But no, he had to instill the value of benefitting the public.
Tumblr media
Even as All Might talks about his past, his powerlessness, and his regrets, he never wavers from his original idea. He believes in the idea of a symbol. He believes that society needs a guiding light. The part he knows he got wrong was brushing off the kindness of others. Just because he is different; just because he started on this path alone; just because his isolation made him the right person to start on that path; doesn’t mean he had to stay that way.

I like to HC that All Might official is not run by All Might at all but is instead run by Sir Nighteye and All Might does not get access to said account even after their falling out because All Might is the single most feral bastard online. Guy acts all family friendly in person because he was taught to but this fucker is a quirkless orphan before the era of peace. So I gave him the account name @quirklessnotworthless as a handle. He uses it to flame others and bring attention to quirk discriminations and quirkless people as well as getting into petty squabbles with @allmightofficial since Nighteye keeps responding.
Because lets be honest with ourselves. For all we love feral!Izuku my guy is domesticated compared to Toshinori. Toshinori was merely tamed by expectation and the combined efforts of Gran Torino and Nana Shimura. Toshinori is the Lion compared to Izuku’s Housecat. I can only imagine one of them dumpster diving for food and it ain’t Izuku.
So he’d get out his feral energy online by being an absolute menace to society.

HAIR
feral animal noises
okay okay hear me out right. The (I think Norse but I'm not sure) thing where short hair means servitude (please correct me if I'm wrong)
Now, think All Might. Toshinori was a wild child before he met Nana. Orphan kid possibly living on the streets when not in school and with no one to demand he keep himself neat because I think everyone during his time was more focused on not dying than some little boy showing up to school disobeying the dress code with his long and unruly hair.
Toshinori meets Nana and allows her to clean him up a little. Tame his hair, shorten it a little so it's easier to manage. He doesn't mind. Nana takes care of him. Nana believes in him. He would do anything for Nana.
Nana dies in his second year. Toshinori lets his hair grow out again, spiraling and throwing himself into hero training.
He graduates. He's a hero now. Heroes don't let themselves look wild and crazy. Their suits are colorful and neat. Their hair is perfectly styled. America inspires him. He becomes the picture of perfection.
He returns to Japan. He becomes the Number One hero. His hair is perfectly styled, cropped short to the nape of his neck and slicked back or up. Perfect, a display of his devotion to hero society. What a joy it is to be of service to others!
All For One catches up to him, eventually. He dies but leaves his mark. Imperfect. Toshinori is imperfect and he can't stand it. Can't stand the withering, rotting sight of himself in the mirror. Can't stand the messy hair and the disgusting scar.
He tries. He tries so hard to make himself still seem perfect. Keeps his hair short and styles it in his larger form. Desperately clings to every wisp of One For All.
He forgets to keep cutting it when he meets Izuku. He forgets to keep cutting it after fighting All For One again in Kamino Ward. All Might dies that day, as does Toshinori's need to be perfect, which he never will be again.
With the League of Villains, with the collapse of hero society, he notices the flaws he overlooked. He notices the way he was one of the only things holding everything together. So blinded by his devotion that he didn't realize there was no one helping as much as he was.
His hair grows out. He doesn't need to cut it anymore. He isn't Perfect All Might anymore.

All Might, who’s been sort of AFO’s counterpart for most of the series - his childhood flashback/backstory is so lovingly portrayed. Smiles and laughter, a picture book, a mom - his mom who had put aside her work so she can play with her kid, likely because he ran up to her and asked and she indulged him. Toshinori was so, so adored and cherished here, it's obvious to see, even if his family later died. This loving scene is the start of a path that lead to him wanting to be a Hero.
Meanwhile, we turn 180 degree to look at AFO. and you really can’t say anything about his childhood flashbacks/backstory other than “well, no wonder he turned out fucked”. which is not a new concept for the series, where we see again and again harsh, unsupportive enivornments (esp. ones that people are not saved from) contributes to them lashing out and going villain. I think this environment would count as one of them.
Except apparently we’re 100% not supposed to see this as part of that pattern? No, AFO was already bad before all of this, when he started out as a parasitic fetus. Everything that's framed here about AFO's story pointedly tells us not to sympathize - in fact, AFO is sorta responsible for his own condition, because he killed his mom by draining her life force, because he was conceived an arrogant baby, he was born believing the world belongs to him.
(Which personally I think sorta falls flat to declare when this baby literally has absolutely nothing in the world but his mom’s corpse and a little brother. The 'incarnation of greed' works when AFO grows up and does have wealth and power and five hundred orphan-minions and then still wants more; but for a newborn experiencing extreme deprivation, it's strange to say. Again, though, that doesn't apply here, because AFO sorta did this to himself in the womb. That he is on the streets during the meta-abilities apocalyse, looks to be portrayed as something he deserves, or at the very least the direct consequences of his actions. his unborn baby actions.)
idk. seeing these two backstories side-by-side makes me sad. One kid gets love; the other gets chewed on by rats five minutes after he was born (But Don't Worry Too Much Because He Has Only Himself To Blame).
(Oh, but what about Yoichi? The twin brother who was there in the womb with his parasite twin, there with the rats and the dead mom? He turned out good. He experienced the same extreme deprivation, in addition to abuse from his older brother, but he ended up good and kind and just. So Yoichi is not only a refutation to any excuses that AFO might get due to Awful Childhood, he sorta gives AFO negative sympathy points.
But I think that only works if they both started out similar and one rose above their shit situation, and the other, say, took the easy way out by succumbing to his worst instincts, then there's something there. Here, I don't think these aspects of Yoichi's character makes AFO's portrayal any less bizarre. I don't think it can, when the twins are 'basically normal kid' and 'Parasitic Fetal Incarnation of Evil Greed'.)

Please, 5 heacanons for an Anastasia AU where Emperor All for One has been looking for his long-missing little brother. Second and Third are a pair of poor conmen who find an amnesiac orphan named Yoichi and decide to turn him into a fake prince. Except when they actually meet All for One they start to have serious doubts about letting Yoichi go.
Sorry, this took so long, it's been so long since I've seen this, I had to rewatch it. But it was fun! Sorry it got so long though.
Note: I made up a fake country for the emperor to rule. I find this fitting as we all know AFO only becomes an emperor in his imagination.
The Shigaraki family rules the country of Ronea, when their exiled advisor, Garaki, comes and tries to take over, cursing them. Then a revolution happens and they're overthrown. Every one of them is killed except for two. Hisashi (who's 18), who stays behind to fight off the revolutionaries with his own magic, and Yoichi (8) who escaped with the help of two servant boys (Second and Third). He meant to come back, but was knocked down and hit his head. He would end up at an orphanage with no memory of his previous life. Oh, and Hisashi killed Garaki and took all the magic for himself, managing to uncurse them.
10 years later and AFO, after fighting off the revolutionaries and taking his place as emperor, has placed a high bounty for the safe return of his brother, who everyone assumes is dead, but no one's going to tell the emperor he's delusional. Meanwhile, Second and his best friend Third, have become conmen after being unable to continue work as servants in the palace, as they got really tired of being forced to care for the emperor's Demon King dolls action figures. They decide to try and turn in a fake prince. Sure, others have tried it, but they have insider knowledge, so obviously they would succeed.
Meanwhile, Yoichi has been tossed from home to home, finally escaping the system at age 18. He has only one relic from his previous life, a silver bracelet with "My Little Brother" inscribed. Not super helpful, but whatever, he's given up any hope of family and is off to Paris to pursue his dream of becoming an author, with the corgi he finds on the way there, which he names Tomura. Sadly, AFO isn't letting anyone leave the country, just in case they happen to be his brother. The only way out is to be smuggled out, and so, he's directed to find The Number Duo.
Shocked by his resemblance to the prince and his coincidental matching name, they convince him to pretend to be Prince Yoichi. After all, surely the prince will have the time to write a book and the money to move to Paris. He agrees; Cue the prince training montage with all the kind of flirting and stuff.
Of course, they don't have to go on a big journey here, as they're all in the same country, they just have to say they found the prince and they'll be let in. AFO never gave up on seeing his brother again, no matter how many fakes he had to go through. (He kills them, but not many people know that little detail)
Yoichi starts to remember more and more of his old life as they walk through the palace, and is able to ace the test AFO gives him, including details he was never even taught. Like how he managed to escape...
In order to celebrate, AFO invites them all to a party he's throwing in honor of his brother's return, but the number duo can't help but feel that something's not right with the man. Something about the look in his eye doesn't seem quite right. Their suspicions are confirmed when AFO's new advisor, Toshinori Yagi tells them about how AFO has used the souls of the fakes he killed to power up a new spell. One that will keep Yoichi from ever having to leave him again.
Meanwhile, Yoichi can't help the uneasiness he feels around his brother, but ignores it. They're family after all. (The bracelet feels heavy around his wrist.) Tomura the corgi runs off just as the party starts and ends up in the gardens, right into AFO's arms. There, Yoichi finds out just what he's planning through AFO's monologue, which triggers a few more flashbacks.
You see, AFO and Garaki had been best friends, and learned dark magic together, eventually selling their souls for the opportunity to carry out their plans. AFO becoming emperor and the rest of his family (sans Yoichi) getting killed was planned, but Garaki trying to take the throne for himself, was not, so he got killed. Yoichi was the only family AFO had loved as the rest all made fun of him, so he wanted to keep him around forever. He gave Yoichi the bracelet (which he had sold his soul for) saying to always wear it, as it would protect him in times of need. That was a lie, the bracelet was enchanted, but it needed to be activated first. The enchantment made it so that Yoichi's soul would leave his body and be forever bound to his brother, unable to leave him again.
Second & Third arrive on the scene and it turns into a battle, where Tomura manages to bite the bracelet off, but that only buys him time. Then there's a game of keep-away with the bracelet, and eventually Yoichi manages to break the bracelet, causing AFO to turn into dust.
AFO dies, and Yoichi becomes king of Ronea, marrying Second & Third. Tomura gets to live a spoiled life with some corgi friends he made, Mon-chan and Hana. Nana Shimura is the royal dogsitter. The Trioholders had their honeymoon in Paris and Yoichi got to write several books. The end.
This was a lot more than what I was expecting to write, but I really love this movie.
In my original version (what I came up with before I rewatched the movie), AFO was the evil advisor and brainwashed everyone into thinking Yoichi was his little brother who went tragically missing when some evil revolutionaries (AKA Yoichi's real family) stormed the palace. Those revolutionaries were the Aoyama family. He was Yoichi Aoyama. That one was so different I thought I'd mention it here.
Anyway, I hope you liked this :)

For BNHA I have an All Might/Inko Fake Bitter Divorcees fic that I’m unreasonably fond of.
Effectively what happens is this:
Midoriya goes to the UA Entrance Exam
He has a new Quirk
He has never used this new Quirk in his fucking life
He cannot fucking tell people this fact
This is a foolproof plan nothing will go wrong this will all be FINE
Who’s this blonde boy clapping him on the back what do you mean his Quirk is that he steals Quirks oh fuck oh god wait no
A child
EXPLODES
In the UA entrance exam
(Yes I know Monoma can’t steal OFA because it’s a stockpile quirk but I planned this before they revealed that in canon so let’s all just pretend.)
In an act of stunning teamwork, Midoriya keeps Monoma from bleeding out, some random purple haired guy with a mind control Quirk keeps him calm, and Iida Tenya runs to kidnap Setsuna, a girl who canonically regrows limbs with her Quirk, which Midoriya knew because he met her earlier that day, from the recommendation entrance exam. They manage to keep Monoma alive and regrow his arm and are only slightly horribly traumatized.
The school won’t let them leave until their parents come get them for legal reasons.
THE PROBLEM:
Everyone knows that izukus quirk was the one that made Monoma explode
He didn’t HAVE a quirk this morning
No one here can know that fact
His mom doesn’t know he has a quirk and he CANNOT let her find out like this.
So he frantically texts all might begging him to come get him instead because he cannot tell his mom like this she will have a heart attack and die and he’ll be an orphan, leaving him to succumb to the fate of shonen protagonists everywhere.
Izuku: “you don’t have to call my mom my uh,” completely unrelated adult man who meets me after school every day without parental knowledge or permission because he told me not to tell anyone. you do NOT want to call the police on this man “dad is coming to get me.”
Aizawa: we already called your mom since she was your only emergency contact.
Izuku: ohgodohno.exe
Two parents show up for Izuku.
Izuku does not HAVE two parents.
His mom KNOWS this fact.
Aizawa, who met Small Might at a meeting: … so you must be Midoriya’s father
Toshinori, sweating: … yes
Inko, who knows this is not the father of her child: I—
Izuku: HI DAD
Izuku decides the only way out is through they just have to go with this. He manages to convince his mom through a combination of whispered pleas and facial expressions to not immediately raise the alarm but that combined with the sheer animosity radiating off inko convinces everyone that Inko and Small Might are extremely bitter divorcees who have given up trying to keep it together for the kid and are just fucking at each others throats.
Shinsou is just sort of sitting in the room feeling kind of awkward that he’s a part of this. They forgot he was there.
Inko: my son doesn’t have a quirk
Toshinori: well uh, dear, you know that my side has a history of late bloomers
Inko, with enough acid to dissolve the bones of a fully grown elephant: did I know that sweetheart? Or was I just expected to somehow know that when I walked into this room?
Toshinori: … at least he has his quirk now!
Inko: ONE THAT EXPLODES ARMS?
Toshinori: I’m certain it does other things too
Shinsou, also here: :o
Izuku leverages the awkwardness to dragging his “parents” away for a family meeting in the bathroom wherein 1) they all come clean about the entire OFA business and 2) they decide that they have to just commit to the story that Izuku is all mights child and inko is his angry ex wife because if anyone ever does find out about the connection between them “I inherited his Quirk because I’m his literal biological son” is a lot better for them all than “I inherited his Quirk because it’s a highly secretive transferable quirk from the dawn of superheroes that has grown to be the most powerful quirk in history that you may be able to have too if you torture me into giving it to you.”
Also Featuring:
Shinsou, plagued by knowledge of All Mights torrid family life, because he accidentally walked in on their family meeting while all might was still in his powered form. He did not want to know these secrets. He will not be sharing them. Please go away and let him go back to not knowing things.
Iida, Shinsou, and Izuku friendship pre UA accidentally discovering the past users way sooner because shinsous practicing his Quirk on Izuku and Izukus like “hey who are those eight shadowy figures who watch me from the dark when you use your quirk on me” and shinsous like “the fucking what.”
However they conclude that izukus obviously extremely haunted and has eight angry ghosts living in his bones that they must find a way to exorcise or appease. This is in no small part because the past users are hazing the newbie. It’s okay Iida is extremely productive they will start with exorcisms from all major religions and go from there
(Iida: well if you couldn't manage it here then I don't see what "going to the Vatican" will do--I, sir, sir. If you're going to be uncouth then I'm going to have to block your number. Sir you may tell the bishop whatever you please--I--good day sir *hanging up* the nerve of some people. The Catholic Church was a wash but I’ve made contact with a Taoist Fashi for the upcoming week)
Meanwhile Inko and All Might are trying to gaslight select people in their lives into believing they were married to each other when they absolutely were not married to each other. It has varying success.

Toshinori Yagi/Shouta Aizawa adoption prompt! Pet or an actual child. Both are good options, and I’m indecisive!
You got it!
Adoption Prompts!
Aizawa going out for groceries one day but coming across a cat outside the store. He knows he can't leave them there so he goes back in, buys cat food, and spends some time with the cat before taking it home.
EraserMight strolling along the sidewalk and they pass by a pet shop with an adorable cat in the window. Yagi gives Aizawa a pleading look and the end up going inside "only to look".
Aizawa is out on patrol when he finds a kid sleeping in a park. Turns out the kid's parents kicked them out and they have nowhere to go so Aizawa takes them home where Yagi prepared them a good dinner and a warm bed.
^^ Bonus if the next day Aizawa starts the foster process so the kid doesn't go into the system but later EraserMight decides to adopt.
Aizawa comes across a lost infant while on patrol. The police push the child onto Aizawa to take care of for a day while they wait for child services. Only, during that one day, both Aizawa and Yagi get attached and decide they could try to parent the orphaned child.
Dialogue Prompts!
"You can't just take a kid off the streets." "Are you going to stop me?"
"We have a guest." "I'll prepare a room."
"Why do you have so many cats?" "I found a litter of them wandering around."
"What's that?" "I think you know."
"Did I just hear a cat?" "...No."

I have so many feelings about Toshinori being an orphan ;-; I was kinda expecting it for be the token out-of-picture parent that most anomes have but him losing all of them in a traumatic experience gives his tendency to be alone and do things on his own a whole new light
😭
I remember there being theories about All Might being an orphan but I'm not quite sure how they started. It was probably after he said Nana was like a mother to him (as if to compensate for the lack of a real mother in his life). To have them confirmed in canon is wild
I agreed with those theories but idk. To have Toshinori actually say it, express so casually that his family was killed and he's been on his own ever since, is so heartbreaking T^T
I feel like Nana might have had the tendency to do most things alone as well, based off her casually saying her family was killed too, like it was so common place and not shocking at all
It shows how bad those times were back then, that families were being broken, destroyed and torn apart due to attacks all the time. I guess if that keeps happening, eventually people would start to think "I have to do this on my own. If I involve anyone else, they could also be killed/taken away from me" and probably start to blame themselves for their loved ones dying. Being strong enough would also play into it too, so you can imagine how much that must have hurt Toshinori given that he was quirkless, and you can see just how determined he was to get Nana's attention so he could do something about his weakness
(There's just so much to think about how it must have been back then for everyone, so lonely and scary and isolating. I could go on and on)
I used to think that kind of mindset for All Might started when he got OFA and after Nana's death, how involving people could get them killed and so telling Izuku to keep OFA a secret as well, but I bet it could have started even as a kid too. Growing up in a world as bad of a state as it was before would have that effect on people, I think

While I agree that liddol Toshi wasn't saying that there was no other role for him in the society, even with your interpretation he still gives himself less value as the others. 'Nothing is expected from me and I have no family, so I can freely go and put my life on the line to protect everyone else'. And it's not just that he was brushing off other people's kindness, it's also the fact that he saw All Might as more needed and important than Yagi Toshinori. He felt useless and helpless once he lost OFA, and had troubles with seeing how he can still be needed and usefull. Horikoshi even brought up the moment Toshi told Izuku that he can't be a hero without a quirk in this fight.
I definitely agree that Toshi felt useless and helpless without OFA. But I’ve come around to the idea that there’s not really a duality between All Might and Toshinori Yagi. OFA or not, they are the same person. It’s what Toshi tells Shoto in Ch. 386 — the body and mind are two halves of a whole. And I think Toshi’s need to feel useful arises from the person he is. It’s not that Toshi values himself “less” as much as his heart beats for others. His soul and his consciousness are at peace when they serve others. It may sound “crazy,” but young Toshi originally intended to become the Symbol of Peace without a quirk. As a teenager, he thought of his quirklessness and orphan status as assets — it meant he had nothing to lose. Why not try to change the world without a quirk? Like Izuku, Toshi just doesn’t care what happens to himself. Toshi is glad to try saving someone with his metal pipe, even if it’s a dumb idea that probably couldn’t succeed (like Izuku charging at the slime villain). Toshi thinks saving is “the coolest thing someone can do,” so he thinks nothing of putting himself in danger. Toshi’s fantasy was never having a quirk or being a superhero; it was stopping the cycle of grief and hatred so everyone could live with a smile.
Tumblr media
Once he had OFA, and became All Might (which was before Nana died, as she calls him by his hero name in All Might Rising), things got muddy. Actually, I dare say it’s Nana’s presence in his life that changed things — she cared about Toshi, and was like a mother to him. That screws up his entire reason for himself being the ideal symbol that had nothing to lose. And then he DID lose Nana, so he doubled down on keeping others at arm’s length. I don’t think it’s possible to separate young Toshi’s understanding of himself as “All Might” from his need to be isolated. He successfully pitched the idea of becoming “All Might” because he was alone, and then his life experiences proved to him that, yes, All Might needed to remain alone. Then, the more successful All Might became, and the more people forgot about the man behind the hero, the more Toshi got lost in All Might.
Over time, Toshi distanced himself from his original idea to be the Symbol without a quirk. He became less “human.” In his 50s, having survived a gruesome injury, he saw that idea as youthful folly. So when Izuku asks in Chapter 1 if he can be a hero without a quirk, well, we get Toshi answering “no.” Just like Nana, Izuku’s young enthusiasm and selfless spirit wins the hero over, but Toshi still thinks Izuku needs a quirk. It’s only after Ch.326 and the Stain pep talk that Toshi understands the real “All Might” was his heart and soul all along, not OFA. Toshi realizes his original teenage ideals were right. It’s why Ch. 398 shows us these 3 panels together:
Tumblr media
Toshinori Yagi cannot live his life in any way except for the sake of others. That means accepting he will put himself in danger in order to save. As he told Nighteye after his initial injury, he won’t stop helping until he’s dead. The difference is that now the risk of his death is far less because he’s accepting his humanity and accepting the help of others. Toshi is understanding that he’s not the only one who lives for others — people are willing to die to save HIM.
That’s why I struggle with the argument that Toshi and Izuku see themselves at this point in the story as having “less worth” than the people they save. We’re now seeing other characters like Stain laying down their lives (or close to it) to save Toshi and Izuku, as well as other heroes, villains, and civilians. The story has been clear that true heroism inherently involves risk, and frequently some kind of sacrifice. The key is knowing the difference between needlessly rushing towards death and living on to save another day. Right now, Toshi has to keep living to distract AFO, as he’s the only one who can. Beyond that, I’d say he has to keep living to see AFO eradicated, and Izuku and 1A rising to take up the mantle of the Symbol along with citizens. Creating a bigger network of hope and light is how Toshi’s fantasy becomes reality.

🦋 The 'Butterfly Effect' AU 🦋
Part 1: In The Beginning, There Were Two Best Friends
What happens when 'Setting Right What Once Went Wrong' goes wrong. A summery of an (as-yet) unwritten BNHA AU fanfiction that approaches fic length by itself.
🦋🦋🦋🦋
It all started with a disease spread by rats, a virus that twisted and mutated the DNA of those it infected - and their unborn children.
Not only did this mutation grant them strange powers beyond all rules of science and logic, it had a similar effect on their minds. Sufferers showed increased levels of violence, decreased cognition, black-and-white thinking, and obsessive behaviour bordering on psychosis. Millions died. Society was pushed to the brink of collapse.
It all started with an anonymous scientist who approached the Japanese government with the news that he'd developed a cure for the Paranormal Virus. A cure ready to be mass-produced as soon as they gave him the right resources. Soon, it was being shipped to every school, hospital, prison, and police station in the country.
The National Diet passed a law making it compulsory for every infected to be Cured. Then a law expanding it to every Japanese citizen.
Of course, not everyone took the news well. Many Paranormals and parents of infected children fled to so-called safe cities to live in hiding.
Some fought back as lone vigilantes, organised groups, and even small armies. All Might and his gang. The League of Villains. The Gentle Criminal and La Brava. The most infamous of these terrorists were the twin brothers All For One and One For All, who between them commanded thousands of loyal and well-trained followers.
One by one, the vigilantes were overcome by the JSDF and the newly-formed Human Preservation Society. One For All was killed by an undercover HPS agent. All For One vanished, presumed dead.
Months later, a new kind of Cure came out. Stronger. Faster. Deadlier. This type not only caused severe mental side-effects but outright killed any Paranormals above a certain level of mutation, their bodies breaking apart at the seams as their cells died en masse.
But, despite their best efforts, more Paranormals kept being born - and supplies of the Cure couldn't meet this growing demand.
So they switched tactics.
Most Paranormals would be given a weaker but easier to make 'Viral Suppressant' drug, aka Erasure, that kept the physical and mental effects at bay. Only those who refused to comply and used their powers to cause trouble would receive the Cure. The Incurables - those so physically mutated that their bodies could not withstand the Cure - were humanely dealt with before birth.
To this end, a force of specially-trained and well-armed Peace Agents was formed. Armed with Erasure Bullets, a carbon fibre nightstick, the best body armour science could make, and nerves of steel, it was their job to confront and subdue any Paranormal found using their abilities in public. They were aided in their duties by Parabots, machines designed to mimic the strange abilities of their quarry.
It was into this world that Toshinori Yagi was born, his strange hair and eyes already marking him as a Carrier of the infection. Born with a pale birthmark on his side, spreading across his ribcage, and a susceptibility to stomach issues, especially ulcers.
Orphaned at a young age, he was lucky enough to be sent to a group home in the capital city. Though solely for Carriers, it was a warm and friendly place run by a woman known to her charges as 'Aunt Eri'.
Aunt Eri had a son of Toshinori's age, named Hisashi Chisaki, whose albino complexion matched his sickly constitution. With a weak heart, anaemia, chronic migraines, and an immune system made of wet tissue paper, the boy spent much of his time in bed - both at his home and in hospital - and often missed weeks of school. He would draw strange, violent pictures and sometimes talked to himself. Most of the children at the group home found him intensely creepy.
The first day Toshinori arrived, though, he took one look at the odd, pale boy and saw nothing but someone who needed a friend.
And he was going to be that friend.
He played with Hisashi every day, even on those days he was too weak to do anything more than roll a ball across the floor. He complimented his drawings and stories - including the ones with the man in the black suit and the golden devil who hunted him down. When Hisashi couldn't lift his head from the pillow, Toshinori would sit by his bed and read out loud to him. Always encouraging him to smile, to stand up, to do his best to grow stronger.
And Hisashi did. Toshinori's presence seemed to have the same effect that sunlight does on a wilted plant. He thrived.
Though the two boys were very different both in mind and body, they soon became inseparable. Their personalities balanced each other out, their skills complimenting the other's weaknesses. Hisashi was the only one who called Toshinori a boy and didn't use his old name. Toshinori likewise never made fun of how Hisashi suffered from night terrors, or how he still liked to play with wooden blocks as a teen.
Aunt Eri would sadly remark it was a shame Carriers couldn't marry or have children, as they would make an adorable couple.
While Toshinori threw himself into training to become a Peace Agent, Hisashi studied with the aim of becoming a genetic researcher at HPS HQ. He guarded his best friend jealously, watching for anyone who might take advantage of his kind, selfless nature. Look after yourself, he'd say. Stop saying yes to everything. Don't shoulder everyone else's burdens. For God's sake, go to bed.
People are selfish, fickle things, he'd say. Give them the Moon and they'll ask for the Sun. It's okay to disappoint them. If you don't, well... The moment you really, truly fail them, they'll eat you alive. When you're an Agent, this symbol, this hero, you're not a person to them. Remember that. You're a tool. And broken tools get replaced.
What a nasty future you just foretold. Toshinori would reply. Can't you look into your crystal ball and see something a bit nicer?
It's not a prediction. Hisashi paused. It feels... more like a memory.
Then, on the day of Toshinori Yagi's fifteenth birthday, he was called to Aunt Eri's office. There waited a pair of strange men. One wore a long white coat, facemask, and gloves indoors in the middle of June. The other was scarred and muscular, wearing the uniform of a Peace Agent. He looked Toshinori up and down before nodding.
The masked man bid Toshinori to sit and introduced himself as Doctor Kai Chisaki, head of the HPS's Genetic Research. He said that 'she' had been chosen for a very special position as part of Project Augment, a study into the possible weaponisation of stable, gene-edited strains of the Paranormal virus. To this end, 'she' would be purposefully infected and become a Paranormal himself.
All they needed to do was one little injection of virus-rich blood.
And what if I say no?
Dr Chisaki smiled behind his mask and Toshinori shivered. I know you, Yagi. You won't.
He left the room shaking like a leaf, a sticky plaster covering the puncture wound in his left arm. He felt sick. Feverish. He supposed it was the virus making its way through his system.
Toshinori collapsed bonelessly onto the sofa next to Hisashi, who looked up from his book with a frown. What did he do to you? You look half dead. He took Toshinori's hand, feeling his pulse.
I- I don't know. Dr Chisaki said I'm leaving for special training on Monday. For five years! Toshinori rubbed his face. I think I'm supposed to be happy. It's what I wanted, right? They're making me a special Agent. They say I have a great future ahead of me. I might even have a position at the headquarters. I should be happy.
You don't have to go. I could always lock you away nice and safe in the basement, and tell Dr Chisaki you died in a tragic windsurfing accident. Hisashi smiled but it didn't reach his cold, red eyes.
That won't work. I don't windsurf.
Hisashi fell silent for a moment, putting a hand over Toshinori's heart. Just don't let them turn you cruel. Promise me that. Your kindness, your selflessness, your constant meddling, your childish idealism, your stupid, soft, bleeding heart... All those things I find so frustrating about you - really, they're what I love about you. They're what make you, you. You're the most infuriating person I've ever met and I wouldn't have it any other way. So promise you'll keep that gormless grin on your face, okay?
Alright. Toshinori squeezed his hand. If you'll promise me you'll keep taking your medicine, take care of your heart, and try treat everyone else as nicely as you treated me. Because I know you're a good person, Hisashi. And I want everyone else to know that, too.
...I'll try my best.
That Monday, after waving Toshinori off on his military helicopter, Hisashi Chisaki went home and flushed all of his pills down the toilet, filling the bottles with candy. He took a handful of his old pictures out of the drawer, gazing down at them intently. The man in the suit. The golden devil. The boy with his face. The man made of smoke. They all meant something - but what? What did the dreams mean?
All he knew was, he'd never find out if he kept taking those suppressant pills.
He'd always hated taking them, anyway.
They tasted like blood.

Tumblr media
"Toshinori Yagi: Rising/Origin" Just that title. Embrace it. Take it in.
"Let me be your pupil." He doesn't even have a quirk and he wants to train under Nana's wing. Also, the multiple flashbacks throughout the fight are amazing (plus, the people have been wanting to know Toshi's backstory for ages!!)
Tumblr media
"Superacid Injection: Pinky" Eighth move; Mina.
Tumblr media
"Aw, just after rewinding some damage... You're dissolving away now?!" Toshinori literally injects acid into All for One. It's a brutal way to do damage; get him from the inside out. Toshinori is a just person, and he doesn't kill, but it seems like All for One just tips him over the edge just a little. He lets his attacks be a bit questionable because it's fucking All for One. Who the hell would defend his ass? Toshinori has smashed his skull to pieces and now injected acid into his body to dissolve him inside out. Both attacks are villain-esc, but that does not make Toshi a villain.
Tumblr media
"All Might..." Again. All Might, not Toshi.
Tumblr media
"I'm 'trash,' right? So much for that theory!!" Despite All for One being so damn certain he could get rid of Toshinori so easily, he keeps on getting proven wrong (and I live for it).
Tumblr media
"Let me assist you." "Without a quirk? Ridiculous. (Quit following me)" "Please, I mean it." "Go defend a three-meter radius with that rusty pipe of yours. Good luck." A three-meter area is another way of saying home/loved ones. Nana's using her quirk right in front of him, because not only are they physically apart, but biologically as well.
Tumblr media
"My family was killed a while back." ORPHAN TOSHI. Also, he says a while, not long ago. Chances are that it was recent, but he didn't feel entirely loved by his own family.
"Mine too. But I don't have the luxury to join your little quest for vengeance." Nana's too busy working as a hero to get revenge (something Toshi deals with later on).
Tumblr media
"I just can't accept a world... Where those who take from others come out on top. And then those who've had everything stolen... Their grief turns to hatered, in an endless spiraling cycle." Toshinori could've very well become a villain, but he doesn't. He's not bitter or resentful. Yes, he's upset at All for One for bringing up Nana during Kamino, but he doesn't let him/it overwhelm him (with sadness).
Tumblr media
"Yeah? And what's your solution?" Nana seems to lose hope for society, but then Toshi shows up.
Tumblr media
"I want to make the world a place where everyone can live with a smile. And for that... The world needs a symbol." "A symbol of what?" "Of peace. Even with plenty of new buildings... And visible restoration efforts... People have been living in fear for a while now. Their hearts and minds are shrouded in darkness." The shot doesn't change until Toshi says peace. We don't see how fucked up the world he grew up in is until he talks about wanting to bring peace to everyone.
Tumblr media
Nana looks at her hand. She knows she can pass One for All down.
Tumblr media
"So you would put on a grand display of power?" "Everyone's got a tough enough time with their own three-[meter] radius. So yes. I would step up. A quirkless guy like me... Has no role otherwise." Toshinori was quirkless. He would've been ignored or killed, and he probably knows/knew that. Yet, he still wants to protect everyone. To be kind to them and provide the safety that he never had.
Tumblr media
"All for One is even closer to U.A. now!! But he's veered off course!! He's pursuing All Might instead!!" We're shown why All Might put himself up and in the way of All for One. He wouldn't have chased anyone else, but he's fixated on Toshinori right now that he's lost sight of his actual goal.
Tumblr media
"Fractured ribs. Full-body contusions." If his rib fractures are severe, the can cause breathing issues (like Toshi doesn't struggle with that already). When untreated, rib fractures will lead to serious short-term consequences (severe pain when breathing, pneumonia), but rarely death. Full-body contusions are bruises by direct and/or multiple blows (no doubt from Toshi flying through the air and some buildings).
Tumblr media
"Respiratory malfunction." The one time Toshi has lost his smile (so far) throughout this fight. No doubt he's remembering the damage All for One did to him. Malfunction means it's failing to function in a normal or satisfactory manner (but, it can be fixed).
Tumblr media
"I, too, was once brimming with youth." "The man we knew as All Might... Could not live his life any other way." Toshinori is out looking the very same rooftop where he talked to Deku. While Toshinori and All Might aren't directly the same, they're still part of on another. There's Toshinori in All Might and there's All Might in Toshinori.
Tumblr media
"Is he even younger now? Maybe he's not aware of it? Better not probe or he might come to his senses. He had to use quirks to expel the Pinky Superacid from his body, but the strain is hurting him. Does taking damage speed up the rewinding process?" Toshi is still figuring out how to better fuck up All for One, not just emotionally, but far more physically too. It's similar to the Nomu incident at the USJ; when it got dire, All Might figured out how to distribute the force of his punches to override shock absorption. He's analyzing the changes in All for One because of him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Haha... Hahaha. Hahaha. HAHAHA! Don't stop now, Hercules! Keep it coming!!" Every. Single. Flashback. Is. Toshinori. Not All Might. But Toshinori.
Tumblr media
"To be of service to others... What a joy! Fight on! Together!!"Toshinori bases himself on how useful he is to others. He doesn't say it's a joy to help others but to be of service. He still views himself below everyone else, like the same quirkless boy with no other role or place in the world. While All for One is physically de-aging, Toshinori is mentally, getting back in the mindset he had pre-One for All. He's selfless to the point that it's damaging (literally). His own life, his health, and his happiness aren't considered (rarely even by his friends). Because, to him, it's not important. It never has been. Toshinori has always had this sacrificial mindset. He's always been like this and now he seems worse than ever. He's happy, yes, but his own self-worth is at rock bottom because he isn't fighting for himself. He's fighting for everyone once again.
Tumblr media
"Thrusters: Uravity... And Ingenium! Full throttle!!" Ninth and Tenth; Ochacko and Iida.
Tumblr media
"You hear me?! To victory!" Not to the end. To victory. Toshi's victory. Everyone's victory.
Tumblr media
"... He's fighting!" Aura Might is so pretty, and he senses that Toshinori is in battle. Not Deku, but Aura Might.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"All Might!!" "Midoriya, kid!!" It seems like they're able to communicate, or at least sense each other. Toshinori is still smiling (despite the fact that he's spitting out blood). He won't choose to give up. He won't give up. HE WON'T FAIL.

I really want AFO to survive at least long enough to have a moment like this, where someone tells him that he didn’t do all of the horrible things he’s done because he was an evil demon lord, he did them because he chose to. I feel like his character’s conclusion won’t be satisfying enough without seeing him directly confronted with it.
Though hopefully also some acknowledgement that he wasn’t born an orphan and made to steal and kill as a child because he was born evil, but because of the even more painful reality that there was no reason, it was simply a tragedy.
I think my ideal outcome would be Toshinori saying this to him before he becomes a baby and forgets everything, and then raising that baby with the support it needs rather than being born with nothing, I think that’d be a really nice way to end his story.
