@crumbleclub oooooh, Evan not knowing that Henry essentially did nothing and excused/justified William’s abuse sounds delightful.
Maybe Mike has to struggle with whether he should tell Evan the truth; Evan’s maybe not excitement/happiness but certainly relief and peace upon seeing his Uncle Henry again is refreshing to a degree because Evan has had so little happiness in his life, but there's also the knowledge that this happiness is based on lies and that Henry is NOT someone to be trusted, and having Henry around isn't worth the risk or pain.
if Mike tries keeping it to himself, he won't have very much control over the Obvious distaste he and Henry have for each other: Mike because he was ignored when he most needed help, and Henry because Mike is a reminder of how thoroughly wrong he (Henry) was, how his (Henry's) actions (and inaction) contributed to all the horrible happenings around him and William, and of the utter betrayal by William. Maybe Evan can pick up on the animosity between them and is thoroughly confused and agitated, not knowing who to side with or who is being unreasonable in this situation since they both refuse to fill him in on any of the details. Having his uncle and his brother back should be a happy thing, and yet everything is falling apart around him.
Then again, I can also see a version of events where Henry objectively knows that Evan isn't at fault for Charlie’s death (she died way before the Bite even happened), but seeing Evan reminds Henry not just of his daughter's death but of all the families with empty bedrooms, empty seats at the dinner table, toys and clothes laying forgotten in drawers and closets. Maybe Henry's manner around Evan is cold; he refuses to look Evan in the eye, seems pained to even look in Evan’s general direction; his tone is thin and blunt the few times he speaks to Evan at all. Maybe Evan is crushed that this person he once loved and he always viewed as so kind and Objectively Good is so disgusted by him, and Mike telling Evan the truth is an act of mercy on Mike’s part. Henry isn't the saint they thought it was, and his judgment is nothing less than shady and flawed.

Ok I got four asks in my inbox about the new Nick interview and I'm actually mad. I'm actually livid and exasperated because I've been getting and answering similar asks over and over again, and yet people still come to me with the same statement and the same conviction EVEN AFTER I POINTED OUT EVERY FUCKING FACT THAT CONTRADICTS IT.
Do you really need a 19-year-old to teach you reading comprehension and media literacy?
Ok, fine.
Statement One: Nick doesn't appreciate RWRB, he's brushing it aside, which is why it wasn't mentioned in the New York Times
One: Editorials don't always portray the actual thoughts or agenda of the interviewee.
Unlike a video interview or a podcast interview where we can hear the whole conversation directly from Nick with his voice, and even if there are cuts and edits we can pick it up via visual or audio continuity, in a written editorial the only thing we can rely on is the writer's words, or in other words, the writer's paraphrase or quotation of what Nick said to him. This gives much bigger room for any changes or manipulation in content because we have nothing else to reference.
It is clear that in the past three editorials, the writer or the magazine itself has deliberately demeaning and devaluing RWRB. In NY Magazine, it was only mentioned in one line and degraded to "a queer take on a common straight trope" (see the choice of word "president's daughter"), with the implication being at its core, it's a straight story/ reliant on past straight stories to be interesting; Hunger Magazine calls it fujoshi-pleasing (fujoshi: Japanese slang, denoting how a straight woman who enjoys fictional gay content is "rotten", too ruined to be married, an insult to both the audience/fans and the movie itself ); and this time New York Magazine didn't even mention RWRB, when let's be honest, it's Nick's biggest breakout role.
"Once Is Chance, Twice is Coincidence, Third Time's A Pattern" this is deliberate. I can't say what the agenda is, my guess is some extent of latent homophobia, but it's clear that this is a fucking pattern. In fact, besides the hidden agenda of devaluing RWRB, these editorials show another hidden agenda, but that's something for a later day. PM me id you want to now, I won't discuss that one on my public platform yet.
Again, there is so much more room for twisting and hiding words in a written editorial. In all the video interviews Nick did, especially in the UK, when has he ever avoided a question about RWRB? When has he ever not shown gratitude towards the project?
Two: In all video evidence that can't be manipulated, that clearly shows Nick's own thoughts which not influenced by any other party, he has made it clear that he adores RWRB.
Why else would he sign books during the M&G London premiere, going as far as to stay behind after the event just to sign books? Same with the LA M&G premiere and TIOY premiere: those were promotions for other projects, he had a valid reason to refuse to sign the RWRB books and posters, but he didn't, always signing with a big smile on his face, even playfully signing on Taylor's face. He said it himself in his Instagram post, and I quote: "The love that Henry has received has been one of the most heartwarming things to watch. It's been difficult to not talk about him. So thank you for seeing him for all he is. He was a joy to bring to life." There's your proof, directly from the man himself.
Statement Two: Nick's not interested in doing a sequel, he said he's done playing princes and he's done playing romantic leads
One: "Done playing princes" doesn't mean literally done playing princes, it means he wants to try more roles and not be stuck with only being known as the "prince" guy. (even though he's literally a prince lol)
Plus, he said that after Robert, but then Henry came along and he was attracted to Henry as a character with his scared but loving heart. He doesn't just view Henry as a prince, he views Henry as a complex, delicate person who so happens to be a prince. Him saying he's done playing princes means in the future, he doesn't really want another royal on his filmography, but this doesn't mean he doesn't want to continue Henry's story. With the given context, namely asking him about future projects he wants to take up, "he's done playing princes" and "he doesn't want to play Henry anymore" are not mutually inclusive.
Two: "Done playing romantic leads" means he wants to try new things and take up new projects that aren't romance films.
This doesn't include the continuation of already established characters i.e. sequels, this just means if he were to take up brand new projects, he wants to try something else. Sequels are inherently different from new projects because again, sequels are based on already established characters.
Three: He said several times ON VIDEO that he'd be in for a sequel
In this one, when asked if he'd be up for a sequel, he said, and I quote "Look, I think with any opportunity of doing a sequel, I think, you know, the script has to be right. But obviously, it was so lovely to see how many people it touched and having that resonance is incredibly important to me, so, yeah. Of course."
In this one, when asked if they have had conservation on a potential sequel, he said, and again I quote: "Yeah, I mean definitely had conversations. I think we're all on the same page in the sense that, you know, the script needs to be right, and sort of all the different components need to be right because we made something that has such a positive effect and I think the last thing you'd wanna do is ruin that or take that in a way, so, you know, the conversations are definitely being had."
And there are more videos from red carpet interviews that I can't be bothered to find right now but he says more or less the same thing.
(look I even transcribed it)
Not only is he on board with a sequel, he's also being careful about it to make sure once they do get to making it, it's something good. He's on board, and he values it. And again, that's directly from him.
We have a phrase in Chinese: 斷章取義, meaning "breaking off a small part of an article and deriving the meaning from that single part" That's what so many of you, in particular, the people who come to my inbox with the sentiments of the above-mentioned statement are doing. Please, use critical thinking and look at the whole picture. Stop making judgments from the surface of one source.
Tagging my friends @alittlefrenchtree and @myteavsricochet because it looks like they've been getting the same things I got

Man I was wondering how your wally would react if the reader was called out on a date or got a kiss on the mouth in front of him...
I just wanted to know how wally would be jealous ( maybe deep down he also wants to kiss the reader and take it to a meeting )
OH BOY! This is going to be fun! I'll write two small little sets for this. One for a reader who is in the Welcome Home world (like a puppet reader) and one for a puppeteer reader (I'll just call him Puppet Wally for this).
Welcome Home Wally: Clinginess Intensifies
🍎 He is so confused when he sees someone kissing you. Mainly because he doesn't even know what happened. He knows what a blow kiss is, but that wasn't a blow kiss... that was something different entirely!
🍎 He also has the new experience of his chest hurting and an odd, churning feeling in his stomach. It isn't pleasant... He also kinda wants to cry for some reason. He doesn't like this one bit.
🍎 He'll go over to Poppy's Barn to ask her for help! Frank is smart, yes... but he isn't very good with the odd feelings Wally sometimes gets. Poppy is, though! So, when she explains that the feeling is jealousy, Wally is intrigued! He does feel a little bad, because you didn't seem to mind whatever happened... So, why should he? If you are happy with them, why should he feel jealous?
🍎 He also finds himself holding a grudge against whoever he saw with you. Doesn't matter who, even if it is one of his own friends. He feels bad for glaring and staring at them... it always scares them away... but he can't help it! He just feels so upset! As Poppy said, jealousy makes you do crazy things!
🍎 Maybe he can get one of... whatever happened with you and the other person, too? Specifically with you, of course. He really likes that idea! It would give him a chance to be close to you, both emotionally and physically. Kinda like a hug, but different! What, Frank? It's called a kiss? Well, Wally wants a kiss! He won't force you to, but he still wants one!
Puppet Wally: ... Curious. Panicked, but curious.
🍎 What just happened? Why did that one creature just do that to his Puppeteer? Wait, it wants to take you where? To a movie? ... WAIT ARE YOU GOING TO LEAVE HIM-
🍎 He doesn't like whatever is happening. He doesn't know what that other creature just did, but he doesn't like it! They got close to you! Only he should be that close. A puppet and puppeteer should have the closest bond and proximity out of everyone and everything, in his eyes. Not only that, but that creature caused you to make plans to leave him! Not fair!
🍎 He can and WILL find a way to make you change your plans. He doesn't like hurting people, but if he has to, he will. Also, to be fair, he probably doesn't even realize he is doing it half the time.
🍎 Oh, what's that? Henry got sick on the day that you were meant to go out with that creature? You found paint in his bowl of cereal you made him? Oh, don't blame Wally! Wally didn't know any better. Wally doesn't understand that some things are toxic to non-puppets. Well... Maybe he did a little. He just didn't expect Henry to get THAT sick. You need to take him to the hospital, now? Take Wally with you! Children love to cuddle plush things for comfort, right? Also, don't make anymore plans without him! If you do, Henry might get sick, again. For reasons completely unrelated to Wally.
🍎 Whatever it is that monster that made you make plans with it did, can you do it with Wally? Pretty please? It is just so he can learn what it is that happened, he swears! If you do it, he won't put anymore paint in anyone's food.

"Not in Neverland, but if you lived with Pan and Felix in Storybrooke or something, I feel like Pan would let you buy whatever you wanted and Felix would have to like, stop you. And it makes me laugh"
A/n - Omg yesss. Lol, I can totally see that! Like if they were modern or in storybrooke, Peter would be like-
"Y/n can have EVERYTHING they want!"
And Felix would be the more reasonable and down to earth one saying stuff like.
"But Peter!! That's so expansive!" Or like "Okay, well, how are we going to pay for that?!"
It would be such a cute situation 😍😂 I might even end up making a cute little drabble about it... 🤔 I don't know; it's up to y'all if y'all want to see it.

Life has been a little chaotic ever since Peter and Felix arrived here in Storybrooke. Long story short, we managed to find a happy ever after for all of us.
Lucky for Peter, Regina and Emma allowed him to come with the help of Henry, convincing them, of course.
Now you might be wondering... Why in the world would Peter Pan want to leave Neverland? Well, he didn't. But I wanted to know he's here with me and Felix.
Oh, and by the way, we're all dating... Or at least I'm dating Peter and Felix. They aren't really dating each other since, well, they say they don't swing that way, but anything is better as long as I can love them both equally~!
Time skip!~
A good amount of time has passed since that incident, and people around here are starting to trust us. Which is a good thing since now we won't get a lot of death glares, and we can actually talk to Henry without anyone staring at us.
It felt great being able to just be a part of something, and the lost boys seemed to like their new environment, too. Some of them even have jobs!
Which reminds me of our struggles... Since Peter was the one behind all that havoc, it's kind of hard for him to get one... And besides that, he hasn't even put in a lot of effort into trying.
He'd always say stuff like, "Jobs are for old people. It sucks the life out of everyone!"
Meanwhile, Felix got a job super-fast. Which isn't much of a surprise since he's the responsible one in this relationship... Though, don't tell Peter I said that, or he'll throw a fit.
Anyway, I got a job, too, but it barely pays. I work here at Grannies as a busser. All I do is clean tables and dishes. It isn't hard since we don't get a lot of customers at once, but it's decent.
However, the pay isn't the greatest. It's fine for one person, but I'm with two others... So, we mainly have to rely on Felix's income.
He works as a construction worker, and he barely gets any time off... Especially the giant incident. Tiny literally destroyed half the town. It was a great pay, though.
Anyways, enough of that! Me, Felix, and Peter are currently heading to the grocery store to buy some food for the week.
Felix always hated shopping for food. But I know that's not true. He only hated it when me and Peter tagged along because we'd always add more than what was planned in the cart.
Felix would end up telling us no and to put it back, and Peter would say no to his demand every time, and those two would end up fighting about it all the way home.
It's honestly annoying. If I had enough money, I'd just buy groceries myself...
Anyways, it isn't all that bad. There'll be times when Peter and I would agree into getting something, and we'd pled Felix into buying it for us... That usually works surprisingly well.
Or times when Peter and Felix would agree into buying something, and they'd take it home to show me. Usually, it would turn out to be a gift they think I'd like or food they know I like. I love it when they do it for no reason. It always warms my heart knowing they both agreed to get it just for me~
Overall, life was great. Peter gets along with children surprisingly well. And they end up loving him too; meanwhile, they'd always avoid Felix at all costs. It was pretty funny.
Felix would always have to be the bad guy and pull Peter away from his fun. But that's how it always was. If Peter gets too ahead of himself or starts to think like he owns the place- Felix would always be there to slap some sense into him. And my part- well, my role is to help calm Peter down after he gets slaps.
His 'tantrums' are no joke people. Especially when he's trying his hardest to behave for me. After all, he didn't want this, but I'm sure deep down he actually enjoys it, and I know Felix does too.
He'd always smile for the strangest things... Like every time he finds a word for his crossword puzzle or when he finishes organizing something...
Overall, these two balance each other well, and I'm the glue to this whole ordeal! I wouldn't want it any other way, either~!

I found myself thinking of Jekyll today and wondering if it causes him physical pain to have to fake a smile. To what extent is Henry Jekyll, pleasant doctor and sophisticated upperclass gentleman a painful mask he has to wear and does the discomfort ever feel physical?
I was at the local aquarium today (this is the perfect time of year to go because it's open but there are no tourists so it's never crowded and admission is cheap) hanging out and doodling on one of the benches while I watched the fish. I had on headphones to listen to an audio book and to provide a buffer between myself and anyone who might try to talk to me and I had been looking forward to relaxing for a couple of hours when a family walked up and the father waved his hand in front of my face to get my attention. The minute they started asking me questions about what I was drawing I was filled with what I can only describe as intense dismay.
Obviously the family being present isn't in of itself an issue, it's a public aquarium, it's aimed at families and parts of the aquarium are geared specifically at children, but the family noticed me drawing and stopped to talk to me.
I reiterate that this was not something they did wrong, they were just being friendly, but I was really not prepared to have a conversation and I found the whole ordeal to be...well an ordeal. They were interested in what I was drawing (a sketch of Henry Jekyll because he's been on my mind off and on) and just the thought of having to explain who this character was, hoping they got it, and having to potentially explain why I was drawing him felt overwhelming.
And it was, they did not know who Henry Jekyll was, they were vaguely aware of Jekyll and Hyde but weren't the type of people to read classic literature and had never heard of the musical or actually seen for themselves any movies featuring the character. The mom commented that he looks like "a Disney villain from back in the 90s" which...fair assessment, I can't pretend I don't see why she would have thought that. The older kid was probably the most interested and wanted to see more of my drawings which made me really uncomfortable but I let him look through my sketchbook anyway because his parents kept saying he was interested in drawing and he loves art and I felt too anxious to say no.
I made small talk with the parents for a while, all the usual, "what's your name, where you from, what's your job?" (I hate those questions, they are usually the least interesting things about any people, myself included) and I wondered if this is what Henry does on a regular day. Has ordinary conversations with reasonably nice people and feel completely like a fish out of water the whole time. I felt pretty terrible about it too, I didn't have any hard feelings or resentment but the whole time I was thinking "Stop touching my things, go away, please fucking leave so I can get back to my audio book and my drawing. I just wanted to sit with the fish for a few hours because it's supposed to be quiet here this time of year."
No one ever seems to catch on that physically talking to people is an effort for me. I've gone my whole life and no one has ever noticed that I'm anxious or uncomfortable in situations where I have to speak out loud because I've gotten good at faking small talk and I know how to make my voice sound pleasant.
It's strange because I express myself easily enough in writing and I like messaging with people over text but the minute I have to be verbal with people I don't know I feel like I'm putting on an immense effort. I have to consciously choose a tone, figure out what words I want to say, be ready with an explanation in case I'm asked questions and I have to do all of it in real time on the spot. It feels like improve, like I'm constantly doing an improve routine and I know most people would say "Just be yourself!" But myself doesn't want to be doing this at all. Myself wants to be drawing and looking at fish. Even as a child I was never very social, I liked to doodle or daydream or build with my lego sets. I got reprimanded a lot for being too quiet. So I made myself more talkative and learned how to hold conversations. I learned to blend in but it's so tiring at times and I can swear when it's at its worst it feels almost physical. The discomfort becomes a suffocating "texture" on my skin and in my brain and I have to keep pretending like I don't notice it because every time I try to articulate how I feel people don't understand it. It's just not a thing they experience.
So I just keep "acting normal," and wonder if there's something wrong with me, like I'm operating on a different frequency from the people around me and I'm the only one on that frequency so other people don't even know it exists. It's...incredibly isolating at times. Even my partner doesn't seem to hear the world as loud as I do or experience the "texture" it's just a strange THING that I'm stuck with by myself. I wonder if it was the same for Henry Jekyll? Except instead being of too quiet he was too loud, too boisterous, threw tantrums, didn't know when to stop rambling about anatomy and weird gross medical facts. So he learned how to cover it and move through life pretending to be interested in everyone else but keenly aware they could never share his interests because his favorite subjects were too grisly and if he started talking about diseases he'd put everyone off. I head-canon Jekyll loves what he does, but he doesn't love it for reasons a doctor should, he doesn't care that much about healing the sick, he cares about conquering illnesses, he likes to learn about symptoms, he enjoys the disgusting viscera of his work. But he can't let on that this is what he enjoys about his work because that's not noble or heroic, it's something most people would find creepy of him. So he buries it and pretends he cares about curing the sick. He pretends he enjoys talking to people who don't know anything about who he is or what he does but they think they do because they are aware of doctors and understand that medicine exists. All the time he loathes it, it exhausts him and he can't even indulge in activities he enjoys to blow of steam because he enjoys things like brawling, doing drugs, and fucking. All things a man of his status shouldn't be seen doing. There's an image people associate with Henry Jekyll and it's an image he can't afford to tarnish...
but it's not really HIS image, it's just a buffer he keeps up to make himself more palatable. I wonder if that ever hurts him physically, if the mask ever feels like a "texture" muffling him.
there are times when I feel like it's no wonder he wasn't repulsed by Hyde when he first saw his reflection. Because I can only imagine by the time Hyde showed up he was already completely burnt out on being Jekyll.

Hello, I'm pretty new to the Superboy fandom. Can I ask you this question:
Tumblr media
This part on his Wikipedia page caught my attention.
Do you know the instances (issues, panels, lines, etc) where Kon-el expresses that he doesn't want to be considered Superman's sidekick or similar sentiments?
I would really like to understand more about his feelings regarding his role in relation to Superman and his feelings toward the big man himself.
Thank you, and I apologize if any part of my ask sounds rude to you.
hoookay this is probably gonna be a bit of a doozy but i'll try and keep it concise!!!
first of all, rec-wise, you're probably gonna wanna read the entirety of "reign of the supermen" and "the return of superman". which is a lot, i know, but there's so much going on there that it's honestly hard for me to pick and choose any single issue out of it that would make sense as a standalone.
so at first, before clark himself comes back on the scene, we get things like the classic "don't ever call me 'superboy!'" panel as well as things like this:
Tumblr media
where it's clear that kon sees himself as superman, the "real" superman. he does also acknowledge that he's young and he needs to learn to be and do better, as when john henry irons tells him he needs to accept responsibility for his showboating causing frank the helicopter pilot's death, so it's not like he's a full-on arrogant jackass about being the best already, but at this point "superman" is his entire identity. he's not shy about the fact that he's a clone, either; he tells lois, and later, everyone in metropolis via tv, that he is a kryptonian clone and obviously not the og superman himself, but he's still insistent that he is superman.
a fun side note here: this is actually before the retcon that kon was a human with a metagene, so he is actually a full clone of superman!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in fact that's part of why lois knows something is up with cyborg superman in the wake of the destruction of coast city. it's not entirely relevant to the question of their relationship except that it IS my favorite interpretation and also i think it adds a particular flavor to kon's relationship to superman as the gold standard he was made to achieve, the model he was made to emulate.
Tumblr media
"Superman... the first Superman... didn't let Doomsday trash his town... and I won't let these creeps rip it down!"
superman is his role model in every way. he respects him a lot even in death and wants to be as much like him as he can. at this point kon's definitely a hotheaded and easily-distracted kid, but he's also all of three weeks old, so...
Tumblr media
"Ripping free of this trap would be child's play for Superman... but I'm his clone, aren't I?"
so we can see from early on kon definitely ties his sense of self and his sense of self-worth to "how am i measuring up to superman?" that's a recurring theme we'll see with him over and over.
by the end of the fight with hank henshaw, kon has fully accepted that superman's back and is The OG:
Tumblr media
"Check that, Blondie. I'm not Superman. That guy's Superman! The one and only!"
after this we get the "actually a human clone with a ttk metagene" retcon and kon's departure for hawaii:
Tumblr media
he leaves for two primary reasons: a) to make a name for himself because he wants to be worthy of the superboy/superman mantle and the s-shield, and b) because editorial wanted superboy to be its own separate title. he thinks the world of superman and wants to make him proud, essentially, while also maintaining his independence.
(clark is also around and interacting him during that retcon arc but i'm a little tired and don't wanna go hunt down any more panels right now, so ... that's for another day.)
and then of course there's superboy (1994) #59, where kon actually gets the name kon-el, something incredibly meaningful to both him and clark:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in summary: kon really, really looks up to clark. he wants to be worthy of his trust and often berates himself when he feels like he's not being enough like superman. his strong drive for independence is part of that: he wants to be totally independent and capable on his own, just like superman.

Northanger Abbey Readthrough Ch 25
Catherine might have missed like 99% of Henry Tilney's flirting, but she has an inkling it has happened, maybe, "He had—she thought he had, once or twice before this fatal morning, shown something like affection for her."
Which is why I love this meme so much:
Tumblr media
Again, Catherine touches upon Marianne Dashwood behaviour but she just can't really commit, "But now—in short, she made herself as miserable as possible for about half an hour, went down when the clock struck five, with a broken heart, and could scarcely give an intelligible answer to Eleanor’s inquiry if she was well." However, by the end of the evening and with Henry being kinder than ever, she has recovered. she had nothing to do but to forgive herself and be happier than ever; and the lenient hand of time did much for her by insensible gradations in the course of another day. She does indeed bounce back quickly!
Catherine reflects that in England at least, the type of villains described by Mrs. Radcliff must not exist. She doesn't go so far as to pardon France and Switzerland from containing such evil, but she's pretty sure about her own country. She also believes that while Henry and Eleanor may not be perfect (never!), she's certain that General Tilney has some "specks" in his character. Well you've come a long way girl, we won't ask for more just yet.
Murder was not tolerated, servants were not slaves, and neither poison nor sleeping potions to be procured, like rhubarb, from every druggist.
Quick, someone tell Shakespeare!
Now Catherine's thoughts return to Bath, but she has no news. Her faithful friend has proved unfaithful again: But Isabella had promised and promised again; and when she promised a thing, she was so scrupulous in performing it! Oh Catherine...
Not as bad as her brother though! Poor Thorpe is in town: I dread the sight of him; his honest heart would feel so much. Honest heart! That man doesn't have an honest cell in his entire body! I would have more hope for James if we knew he finally figured out John, but the only hint we have is this: the failure of a very recent endeavour to accomplish a reconciliation between Morland and Isabella. So James and John met again and John tried to get them back together, but whether James rejected both siblings or just one is unknown.
I really feel for Catherine here, she has to sit through breakfast trying not to cry, then cannot return to her room because it is being cleaned (bedrooms in this era were mostly for dressing and sleeping, so she wouldn't be expected to use her room again until 4pm*), tries the drawing room only to discover the Tilney siblings, but then they kindly leave her to herself. Catherine needs another half hour (her magical sad-feeling time) before she can face them.
This line from Catherine is so very Jane Bennet:
"Could you have believed there had been such inconstancy and fickleness, and everything that is bad in the world?”
What a stroke was this for poor Jane, who would willingly have gone through the world without believing that so much wickedness existed in the whole race of mankind as was here collected in one individual! -Pride & Prejudice, of Wickham
The poor girls, having their eyes opened to the wickedness of the world.
Then this part:
This post by Fira Wren playing in my head. His kids know the General is full of it. Eleanor is surprised her older brother has fallen in love, since it seems he never has been before, which again has Henry Crawford vibes.
No, not very. I do not believe Isabella has any fortune at all: but that will not signify in your family. Your father is so very liberal! He told me the other day that he only valued money as it allowed him to promote the happiness of his children.” The brother and sister looked at each other.
Now the reason that Isabella Thorpe would lose in a battle to the death against Lucy Steele and Lady Susan is that she didn't keep her first man secure until she had the next engagement entirely locked down. Rookie movie Izzy! I have too good an opinion of Miss Thorpe’s prudence to suppose that she would part with one gentleman before the other was secured. Isabella just could not manage two men at once.
I love this interaction:
This line from Catherine too, "I never was so deceived in anyone’s character in my life before.” and Henry's response: “Among all the great variety that you have known and studied.” has so much in common with this interaction in Pride & Prejudice:
“But perhaps,” observed Catherine, “though she has behaved so ill by our family, she may behave better by yours. Now she has really got the man she likes, she may be constant.” “Indeed I am afraid she will,” replied Henry; “I am afraid she will be very constant, unless a baronet should come in her way; that is Frederick’s only chance. I will get the Bath paper, and look over the arrivals.”
“I did not know before,” continued Bingley, immediately, “that you were a studier of character. It must be an amusing study.” “Yes; but intricate characters are the most amusing. They have at least that advantage.” “The country,” said Darcy, “can in general supply but few subjects for such a study. In a country neighbourhood you move in a very confined and unvarying society.” “But people themselves alter so much, that there is something new to be observed in them for ever.”
Henry also manages to tip us off about his intentions to marry Catherine right under Catherine's oblivious nose!
"Prepare for your sister-in-law, Eleanor, and such a sister-in-law as you must delight in! Open, candid, artless, guileless, with affections strong but simple, forming no pretensions, and knowing no disguise.”
“Such a sister-in-law, Henry, I should delight in,” said Eleanor with a smile.
Catherine also realizes that she feels much less sad about losing Isabella than she thought she would, which Henry tells her to think about. The falseness of Isabella's friendship is dawning on Catherine, perhaps now just unconsciously.
*Quote illuminating this point from Wives & Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell, spoke by a character who would have been young during the Regency era: 'No, no, Cromer: bedrooms are for sleeping in, and sitting-rooms are for sitting in. Keep everything to its right purpose, and don't try and delude me into nonsense.' Why, my mother would have given us a fine scolding if she had ever caught us in our bedrooms in the daytime. We kept our out-door things in a closet downstairs; and there was a very tidy place for washing our hands, which is as much as one wants in the daytime.

So, what did I know about Arthur and Merlin?
Not much. Just that these two names are always said along, knew something about Arthurian legends, and that's just about it. And I knew that these two are often shipped and when some people say, 'they were good friends ' others would go like, 'sure'.
I didn't even know there was a series called Merlin, until I saw someone say in the comments of a YouTube video on Red, White and Royal Blue trailer that Henry and Alex giving of Arthur and Merlin vibes.
So, I asked again, 'How come they know so much from one or two movies or few stories that might have been about Arthur and Merlin?', and then I also wondered maybe there is/was a show - which led me to discover Merlin(2008).
And I thought, 'oh what a great way to spend my Saturday!' Might be an old show but maybe I will enjoy'
And by Monday night, I'm watching 5x13, except for the last part, because I won't...I won't cry..I don't want to cry. I felt so alone because I was so late to the series, overwhelmed, a little offended because I was genuinely thinking that the magic will do the deed, and bring back Arthur.
By Tuesday, I have already read at least two fanfics, watched 10+ edits, but I still won't watch any video of that last scene. I don't want to accept.
But there's a silver lining: I'm not really alone, I see people creating fanfic even in 2023. Look, I just wanted to have a fun Saturday, but by today, I feel like I should go jobless and read through all the content around Arthur and Merlin.
My thoughts on Arthur and Merlin being gay
This is something I heard people saying even before I knew the show existed. I thought they came from the tales of the legend itself.
I also watched a video where the cast and the showrunners talked about the characters' sexuality. But what I think is, Arthur and Merlin don't necessarily have to be gay, and yet can definitely be romantic.
The kind of person Merlin is, and the kind of person Arthur was, they bonded so well for a reason. They tease each other, they enjoy each other's jokes - Arthur did, they worry about each other, they have each other's back, they have adventures together, they need each other, and most of all, beyond need, they want to be around and with each other.
And the kind of person they are, why would I not think that what they feel about each other is beyond their sexual preferences? It's so much more than that. Arthur doesn't have to be gay to want to spend all his life with Merlin, live with only him forever and wanting no one else(considering he didn't have any royal responsibilities), and vice versa. I believe if Arthur would love Merlin even if Arthur was straight, gay, bisexual, or anything else. Because his love for Merlin goes beyond anything else.
The show focuses more on Merlin's dedication, love and loyalty for Arthur
Merlin's love for Arthur is what we see most - because he has been told in the beginning that he is destined to serve and help him. So what did he do? He devoted his whole time and attention to Arthur - the bond with Arthur only followed after that.
But I want to focus on Arthur here.
I see Arthur's side more - because despite so many to love and bond as friends, he found his bond with Merlin. So much so that even when outing with a princess he should impress - he stuck to trying to annoy Merlin. Outing with his wife - he is nonchalantly talking about Merlin. He definitely pictures being away and alone, but alone doesn't mean not Merlin.
Merlin is adored by many - he is just that lovable. He has a great mother, friends find it easy to like him, and he finds it easy to talk and connect with most people. That's his character - cheerful and cheeky.
But Arthur had this particular nature that only comes out while he was with Merlin. I'd like to call it instant cheerfulness. Merlin was special to him.
Arthur, I believe, always knew how much Merlin meant to him, how much Merlin cared about him, and he also knew that it is mutual.
Arthur was really hurt to know that there's a great part of Merlin, his magic, which was kept from him. It truly hurt me too.
I don't know if I'll ever watch that last scene or if I'll ever cry. Maybe someday I'll get over it and finally watch it.. or maybe I'll just bite the bullet and watch it and cry..

Things End | People Change - Simmering
masterlist
content: intimate whumper, vampire whumper, emotional abuse, gaslighting, reference to past drowning, reference to parental death
"C-Can I get you a-anything?" Vincent stammers, his polite nature getting the better of him until he remembers. "Um, do vampires… drink…?"
Lyfelde is still glancing around Vincent's flat in silence.
Vincent clears his throat. "M-Mr Lyfelde?"
"You're stammering, stop it," Lyfelde says, then waves a hand dismissively. "And yes, we are perfectly capable of drinking, or eating for that matter, there is simply no particular reason to aside from taste. But I would appreciate a cup of tea. However you make it. You wouldn't mind if I lit a fire, would you?"
Vincent wavers for a moment to process all of that information, then quickly nods and slips away to the kitchen. Lyfelde hasn't even looked at him since entering the building. When Vincent returns with two cups of tea, Lyfelde has sat himself down on a chair at the old wooden table.
"Mr Lyfelde?" Vincent says quietly. "Wouldn't you prefer to sit o-on the sofa?"
"No, I'm quite fine here," Lyfelde says. "Closer to the fire. Sit, sit. And remember to speak up, dear."
"Right," Vincent says, quiet again, then he clears his throat once more and raises his voice. "Right. Sorry."
He sits down opposite Lyfelde, and places down the teacups. He doesn't know what to say, what conversation he's supposed to start, so he sips at his tea instead.
"Surely you could've afforded somewhere nicer to stay," Lyfelde says, and Vincent chokes. "You have the manners of gentry, no doubt you have the money."
"I- um-" Stop stammering! "Yes, Mr Lyfelde, I… I just didn't want to be a burden by wasting too much money on a trip. My brother already sends me a generous amount of money for university expenses."
"Your brother?" Lyfelde's interest is clearly piqued. "You hadn't mentioned a brother."
"...I suppose I… saw no reason to?" Vincent awkwardly taps the table. "But yes. I have a brother. Henry. Eleven years my elder."
"Quite a bit older, then." Lyfelde smiles, leaning forward a little. "Tell me about him, dear. I'd like to know more about you."
Vincent is still surprised that Lyfelde cares to hear anything about him, as though they haven't met every few days that night. Lyfelde can tell in the way his mouth opens in surprise and he sits up straighter, as though he's trying to impress Lyfelde. Adorable.
"W-Well, he… he partially raised me," Vincent says. Tap tap tap. "Our parents passed when I was nine years old. He's… always taken care of me. He understands me better than most."
"Is he married, perhaps?" Lyfelde asks, taking Vincent's hand. Vincent sees an affectionate gesture. Lyfelde is simply irritated by the fidgeting. "Any children?"
"Yes, married, no children," Vincent replies. "Though last I heard they were trying. Anise - h-his wife - she's nice, she is, but I don't know her all too well. We only really speak in passing."
Lyfelde does the math. Eleven years older, making Henry Maddox thirty-three to Vincent's twenty-two. Humans die less nowadays. Henry might live until his seventies.
It's then that Lyfelde decides Vincent cannot return to England. Not for at least fifty years. Lyfelde can keep Vincent away for that long, surely. It's barely any time at all.
"They both sound lovely," is all he says out loud.
"They are," Vincent murmurs, then flinches and speaks up. "Sorry. They are."
Lyfelde smiles. Vincent is already being so obedient.
"Apologies if it feels as though I'm interrogating you," Lyfelde says, laughing slightly. "I'm simply interested."
"I… thank you," Vincent says, his face flushing. "Um… do… did… sorry. Is there anyone you consider family, Mr Lyfelde?"
Lyfelde hums. "Not nowadays. I certainly had family before, of course. But no-one now. Friends are also a rarity."
"That… must be lonely," Vincent says, tentatively.
"It can be," Lyfelde says, then tilts his head. "Wonderful that I met you then, isn't it?"
Vincent's face lights up in an awkward smile. "Are we… friends, Mr Lyfelde?"
"What else would you call us, dear?" Lyfelde laughs. So childish. "Now, there is one particular matter I'd like to discuss. Have you given any more thought to my offer?"
Vincent bites his lip, and nods. "Yes, I… have. And… I think… I would like to take it, Mr Lyfelde."
Lyfelde squeezes Vincent's hand. In a room as warm as this, it is the first time that Vincent notices how deathly cold Lyfelde is. Other vampires have laid their hands on him a few times. They're all cold. But Lyfelde's hands feel like ice.
"I was hoping you would," Lyfelde says. His fangs are hidden in his smile, this time. Can't have Vincent backing out now. "May I ask your reasoning?"
Vincent sighs softly, staring into his teacup. "I… I want to be respected. If I'm a vampire… I could be more… like you. I could be something. I have no chance to be anything as a human."
Lyfelde wants to laugh. He's somewhat sure that if he did, Vincent would still stay. But he doesn't, on the off-chance it will put the poor thing off, and simply presses his lips together to suppress it. So naive.
"You do understand what you are agreeing to?" Lyfelde asks, running a thumb over the back of Vincent's hand. "You must live off blood. You will not be able to go out in the sun without being burned. You cannot touch silver. All of the things I have explained to you before."
He's leaving a few details out. But it isn't as though Vincent knows better.
"B-But I won't die. I'll be stronger, I'll-" Vincent's mind goes to being eighteen, to suffocating on the water filling his lungs. "Nobody will be able to hurt me. Ever again."
Lyfelde bows his head to hide the involuntary smile. "I understand. Very well. I must ask, when do you plan to leave?"
"In a few weeks," Vincent replies. "I would like to be home for late August."
Lyfelde's eyes narrow as he looks up. "A few weeks?"
Vincent falters. "I- Is there… a problem, Mr Lyfelde?"
"You would really leave me so soon?" Lyfelde sighs and looks aside. He takes his hand back. "And here I was thinking that you and I…"
Vincent stammers for a moment too long, and Lyfelde stands, stepping towards the fire. He only has to wait for the guilt to begin seeping into Vincent.
"M-Mr Lyfelde, I didn't… mean it that way," Vincent tries. "You could always… always come with me--"
"Yes, because I should be the one to upend my life for you," Lyfelde scoffs.
"Mr Lyfelde, England is my home," Vincent says, a note of desperation in his voice. "I- Of course I would love to stay here, b-but--"
"But what, Vincent?" Lyfelde says, turning towards him, a cold look in his eyes. "It's fine. You can certainly run on home, if you wish."
Vincent is losing Lyfelde with every word he speaks. He stands, clutching his chest over his heart in a silent plea that does nothing to move Lyfelde at all.
"Please," Vincent says, "you have to understand--"
"I understand perfectly well!" Lyfelde snaps, and it is the first time Vincent has seen him angry. Lyfelde takes a step towards him and Vincent steps back. "It is fine. You may leave. As everyone else does."
"Mr Lyfelde--!"
Lyfelde moves much faster than Vincent's eyes can keep up with, and the next moment Vincent is on the floor, hand over his cheek, eyes wide and stinging with tears. The pain burns into his face, simmers under the surface. He stares up at Lyfelde, who has gone very, very still.
"Oh, Vincent, dear." Lyfelde's voice is soft again. "Let me have a look at that."
"N-No!" Vincent gasps, stumbling upright. "You--!"
"I didn't mean to do that," Lyfelde says, hands splayed to emphasise that he is not a threat - not anymore, at least. "Please, Vincent, there's no need to cower. It's only me."
Vincent hesitates, then lowers his hand. It is already stained. A wound has opened under his eye, dripping with blood that Vincent can't help but notice Lyfelde's eyes lingering on.
"Oh, poor thing," Lyfelde murmurs, and Vincent flinches when Lyfelde's hand lands on his cheek. "I must have scratched it open."
The wound is deep. Vincent shudders at the thought that this is a scratch.
"That hinders our plans somewhat," Lyfelde murmurs.
"What do you… mean, Mr Lyfelde?" Vincent asks quietly.
"Ah, I should have explained before," Lyfelde says, gently wiping some of the blood from Vincent's face. "Vampires heal quite quickly, I'm sure you've noticed. But it is a misnomer to call it healing. We simply return to the state we turned in. And that, unfortunately, includes any injuries."
Vincent's face drains of colour. "So… so I will have to wait?"
"Sadly," Lyfelde sighs. "Really, if you hadn't provoked me so, we could have had it over and done with tonight. But I couldn't bear to leave you with an eternal injury."
"I…" Vincent trembles. It sounded as though he was threatening to leave forever, didn't it? How could he have done that? "I apologise, Mr Lyfelde. I… I shouldn't have spoken that way. I- I would hate for you to feel lonely. I care for you, I do."
"...I know you do, dear," Lyfelde says. "Let's clean you up."
Vincent sits patiently as Lyfelde dabs him with a damp rag, doing his best not to wince. Regardless, there's going to be a nasty scar just under his eye once it heals over. And it likely won't heal for weeks. Vincent will have to put off turning until the very last moment.
And, well, Lyfelde hasn't mentioned how long it will take to adjust.
"Ah, I think I missed a little," Lyfelde murmurs.
Vincent freezes at the feeling of Lyfelde's tongue on his jaw. Lyfelde has had his mouth on Vincent more than once now, but this is different. Somehow more intimate than sucking Vincent's life from his neck. Vincent's breath hitches as Lyfelde's tongue curls and licks the last of the blood from his face.
"There we are," Lyfelde says, wiping Vincent's face dry.
Vincent doesn't object to Lyfelde's behaviour. Even as Lyfelde's hand snakes into his hair. There's a power that Lyfelde always feels when doing this, watching someone shape themselves to his will.
"I am so very glad I met you," Lyfelde smiles. Open mouthed. Fangs bared.
And Vincent's little face still lights up even as his eyes show fear.

Overhearing you want to break up
Tumblr media
Eddie: He would be heartbroken and devastated. He'd feel hurt and betrayed, like everything he had put into the relationship had been for nothing. And he'd also be angry and furious, like how could you just throw everything away without even giving him a chance to discuss it or work on it? It would be a really terrible thing to overhear, and he'd have a hard time processing it or dealing with it.
Gareth: He is shocked and hurt. He didn't see this coming and doesn't know how to respond. He feels like he's done nothing wrong and is confused as to why his partner is breaking up with him. He's upset, but he knows he has to respect your decision and let you go. He would never try to force someone to be with him. However, he would like an explanation as to why you're breaking up with him so he can understand the situation better and work on himself for any future relationships.
Steve: He would be absolutely devastated to overhear his partner wants to break up. He would feel like his whole world was crashing down around him and he would have to take some time to process the news and figure out how to move on from it. It would be an extremely difficult and emotional situation to be in, and he would rely on his friends and loved ones for support during this time. It would be hard to trust people again, after such a devastating blow, but he would lean on his support network to help him cope with the pain and heal from the heartbreak.
Robin: Her heart would sink. She would feel crushed and devastated and she would be hurt and angry since she didn't see it coming. She would feel betrayed and hopeless. She would want to know why and she would want to do everything she could to change the outcome.
Nancy: She would be devastated if she overheard her partner wanting to break up with her. Nancy would feel betrayed and heartbroken. She is a loyal person and would be shocked by such a betrayal. She would feel angry and sad, but she would do her best to stay calm and talk it out with her partner. If you were certain that you wanted to break up, she would accept it but make it clear that it hurts and that you have broken her trust.
Jonathan: He would be shocked and upset that his partner would want to break up with him. He would ask you why you wanted to break up and try to understand your reasoning behind it. He would also try to remind you of your shared history and the good times that you’ve had together to appeal to your emotions. Ultimately, he would respect your decision and try to move on as best as he can.
Argyle: He would feel hurt and betrayed, but in the end he would try to understand where your were coming from and respect your decision. He would likely try to talk it out and see if there's any way you both can work through the issues and stay together, but if you're set on breaking up he would ultimately have to respect that and wish you well. He would be devastated and it would take him some time to heal from the heartbreak, but ultimately he would accept your decision and try to move on.
Billy: It would suck. The rejection would be hard to take. It would feel like being stabbed in the gut. He'd be angry, sad, confused, and lost. It would take him a long time to get over it. He would go back and forth between wanting to talk to you and wanting to never see you again. And when you both finally did talk, he would be defensive and angry and hurt. He would need time to heal.  It would break him. It would break his heart.
Henry: He'd be hurt. He'd feel like there's a big hole in his life. Like there's this deep pain inside him. And he wouldn't know how to handle it he would probably break down. He would sit and cry letting it fester before choosing to bottle it all up. And then he'd be angry. He'd be so angry he would be filled with rage and he would want to lash out at the one who hurt him and he'd try to hurt you back.

what did the indoor exhibits think about the outdoor ones before they all came inside? did they even know there were other engines out there?
The indoor exhibits knew the outdoor exhibits existed, but they didn't really think about them much beyond the way one might think of the people who work at your job but on a different shift.
A thought occurs to me though that some of the older locomotives that were kept indoors might be a bit concerned for the ones outside, if they'd had any experience with being left to the elements. Aside from the Rocket replica, we've put off researching a lot of the other pieces of smaller equipment the MSI has since Pioneer doesn't need to know anything about the guys inside beyond what it would occur to him to ask for Pilot's benefit. You saw my stack of books; this is why we go back and edit the letters every time we update, so we can add in stuff we learned in the meantime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, those guys might harbor a worry for the engines outside, but there's not much to be done about it. The exhibits outside are too big to be brought indoors. These little old engines simply wouldn't conceive a way that the bigger machines could be brought inside... until they dismantle that wall and haul 999 and 727 in. Sure, they had to cut off 727's wings to get her through the door, but they put her right to her new use and both of the girls were now safely indoors.
2903 coming inside didn't seem so farfetched now, but U-505 and Pioneer's train are surely too long to bring inside. They'd take up an entire gallery to themselves! Which was true. They were building the Henry Crown Space Center by then so the indoor exhibits probably assumed they'd build annexes for Pioneer and U-505.
That they started digging instead would have been a surprising turn of events. But they did and Pioneer and his train were indeed given their own gallery. They lowered them into their new parking garage exhibit and everyone agrees he's a fine ambassador for the museum.
But Pioneer is very light, as far as trains go. The idea that they could drop something as heavy as U-505 in a hole on the same kind of pulleys they used to lower Pioneer in? Iffy proposition, the small exhibits might have thought. 2903 by this time had been moved to the IRM, but had he still been here, they might have assumed this was why he hadn't been moved inside too. This is the reason given for why he was donated and it was true at the time. U-505 is much heavier than 2903 is, but he is also (not to disparage 2903) a much more valuable exhibit. They were already saying that Pioneer's exhibit was the model for how they wanted to treat U-505. So they sent 2903 off to his new home and began planning yet another logistically complicated move for U-505.
It did take ten more years for them to get U-505 underground as well, but they did it. And that was truly a feat! It just goes to show how great their museum really is. Like, there's not a standard operating procedure for lowering a U-boat into a subterranean exhibit. The MSI not only presents science and industry as it happens, they make their own.
The exhibits themselves may not necessarily appreciate it on that level, but they do recognize the dedication of their museum to their care and maintenance that everyone was eventually brought in, even the most unwieldy of them and even if they had to send them to a new home to ensure they'd no longer be getting rained and snowed on.

What if Anne Boleyn had lived to see Mary come to the throne? Do you see Mary doing everything she can to get rid of her? Would Anne suffer from the same fate as Thomas Cramner?
Mm, that's a popular AU to be sure, but I think the political realities would have been rather more complex in such a counterfactual.
First, I'd have to ask the circumstances of them both surviving and Mary coming to the throne-- has Henry had his marriage with Anne annulled, with her being exiled from court? Or has Anne been Queen throughout the remainder of his reign? Has she had a son? Has there been any alteration or reversal to the Act of Succession (1534)? Has there been any alteration or reversal to the Act that declared Anne regent for her children, should Henry die? Have all her child/ren died, or has Elizabeth merely been married abroad (ie, is she currently living at the French court, wed to whichever prince or duke)? Does Mary have a husband, and if so, who is he, and what wealth and power and claims (to the English throne, or others, or merely title) does he have?
Assuming the second, and assuming Mary, as a sole femme, has a successful coup regardless (so, perhaps Anne attempts to assume regency with Elizabeth but is overthrown), again, the political realities are going to be complex. Edward VI's death happening in such secrecy and him altering the succession to make Jane Grey his heir without the approval of Parliament were circumstances that were to her advantage; all bolstered the rhetoric and justification of her coup, accession, and reign (based on the Act of Succession of 1543, even though she reversed her illegitimacy therein). The Marian myth was that John Dudley, out of pure ambition and greed, usurped the royal prerogative (of both HVIII and Edward VI) and forged an altered succession to place his daughter-in-law on the throne (and, as you mentioned, Cranmer as well).
So, in these altered circumstances, Mary's task would be near impossible. How could her propagandists argue that Anne had done the same, when all she had done was adhere to Acts of Parliament which were very well-known by the people? What would the justification be for her arrest in this scenario, much less execution? Historically, after his arrest, Mary petitioned the Pope at the time to have Cranmer excommunicated (likely, she didn't want to have any parallels with her father drawn in the case of the execution of Bishop/Cardinal Fisher) before his execution. In this, she succeeded, and being thus excommunicated, Cranmer was no longer Archbishop of Canterbury upon his day of execution. I would imagine that she would attempt the same in this counterfactual with AB and Cranmer both, and whether she was successful in securing their excommunications might then inform her actions.
Edit: Tbh, what I conceptualize for this scenario would be more like a succession/civil war for the throne with two female claimants (so, Mary and Elizabeth/Anne’s regency), similar in nature to that of Princess Juana vs Princess Isabella in the 1470s (it would be … very difficult for Mary to argue Elizabeth wasn’t Henry’s child had these Acts of Parliament remained and Anne herself remained Queen, though, as Isabella did for Juana re: Henry IV of Castile, since she didn’t really manage to do that even in the aftermath of Anne’s adultery accusations, and she certainly tried) and I think it’d be a toss-up as to who would emerge the victor. Reason being, as I was just reminded of answering another ask, Anne was the greatest landowner among all the Tudor consorts. Mary I was also a great landowner by the time Edward VI died, because the council was at pains to ‘buy her goodwill’… this backfired, though, because it strengthened her base of power (Jeri L. McIntosh has done some fantastic work in this subject, btw), and played a huge part in why her coup succeeded. Simply put, landowning was power, was wealth. That’s probably what it would come down to, had she been granted as many lands during the beginning of the regency council for Elizabeth or whatever son AB might have had.
Another thing that would tip the scales would be if Mary received foreign aid via Imperial forces, but given Charles V never supplied any in 1553…
And again, excommunication, although Elizabeth or whatever son probably wasn’t going to be excommunicated as a minor (just like Edward VI wasn’t), maybe Anne might have been? This could also be a factor in whether or not Mary received foreign aid from any Catholic powers. Although, yk, HVIII and Elizabeth I both were excommunicated and yet they were never ousted from their thrones.
Anyway! Something to think about . Thanks for the intriguing question ☺️

🎁 💛 🎨 for the writers asks if you’re still doing them.
(If you’ve already answered any of these, replace with one you were hoping someone would ask!)
Hi! Yeah, I'm still doing them!
🎁 Have a piece of a WIP you want to share?
Well...sure! Here's an angsty snippet from the next chapter of my WIP, The real deal. I was actually hoping to get the chapter out this week, but I've been kind of swamped with other stuff, so I guess any readers hoping for an update may appreciate this.
[Context: Henry has just joined the Society. Walter is not happy about it.]
Walter has to stop there to quell the desperation that has not so much crept as it has rushed into his voice. He screws his eyes shut and hugs himself for comfort, trying to make it look like he’s just crossing his arms in frustration. The true meaning of the gesture isn’t lost on Henry, who soon reaches out to put his hand on Walter’s upper arm. “Hey. Are you okay?” Walter opens his mouth to say yes. What comes out is, “No. I’m really not.” Henry rubs Walter’s arm through the sleeve and hesitates a little before asking, “Would you like a hug?” “I’m not…in a hugging kind of place right now.”
💛 What is the most impactful lesson you’ve learned about writing?
Man, this is a tough one! There's always more to learn, and also so many things I have "learned" but not really taken to heart (such as "use a placeholder when you get stuck" haha).
I'd say maybe 'think of your readers as people, not numbers'. The writing itself has to be for me, because the worth of the story or my worth as a writer should not be determined by what anyone else makes of my writing. But I still think it's okay to acknowledge that I wouldn't be posting the stories anywhere if I didn't want to connect with people through them. The important part is not to think about it in terms of hits or even the number of kudos or comments, because that just leads to all kinds of self-doubt if the fic/chapter doesn't reach that many people (I am a niche writer in a small fandom, after all). I find it much more useful and joyful to think about it in terms of the actual human beings on the other side of the screen who have taken an interest in the story and let me share it with them.
🎨 - I already answered this one here. But since you suggested picking another one, let's do this (I tried to pick one of the yellow ones to at least match the colour):
🌻 How often do you read your own fics?
I write what I want to read, so I do reread my fics every now and then. Some more than others, but a couple of months ago I actually reread one that I had not revisited in ages, and I'm glad I did because it was better than I remembered.
Sometimes I reread for no particular reason, other times after a nice comment on an older fic. Or when I need to check something - just the other day, I went to check a minor detail in my magnum opus for my WIP (which is a prequel), and I ended up rereading the last five chapters... Oops.
(Sadly, rereading does often reveal typos or other little errors and fixing those does take me out of the story a bit, but I still enjoy it!)
Thank you again, @gulliblelemon! These were fun 💜

heres a few questions about ur davesport fan kids:
do they know about jack’s siblings/their aunt/uncle? have they met them directly or did Jack tell them? (the latter’d make a killer one-shot)
Are dave and jack good parents? (in general)
what would/do they think about the fact their parents r literal kiddin murderers?
do dave and jack have favorites?
what do dave and jack think about the idea of raising them in genral? i always thought Jack would be hesitant to take care of a child considering his past experience with Dee
hoo boy, here we go (it's gonna be a lot):
- regardless of the route that happens, Jack does tell them about Dee and Peter. in the Good Route, they all live with Peter and Caroline, and Jack tells them about Dee (he might as well; there's pictures of her all over the house, and the kids are gonna start asking eventually) . in the Legacy Route, he still tells them. hey, even if both Dee and Peter hate him (for good reason, mind you), the kids still deserve to know who their family is.
- Jack and Dave are...surprisingly decent parents. more so Jack than Dave. Dave's trying his best in the Legacy Route (the one where the family sticks together. Until Dave Dies, That Is), but. Y'know. didn't really Have parents, and the closest thing he had to a parental figure (Henry) was abusive as fuck. Jack’s only advice to him was "Did Henry do it? Then don't do it to the kids."
Jack does pretty well. He had four years of personal experience, after all!
- this is an interesting question, 'cause it definitely depends on the route.
Good Route: admits that he killed five kids back in Colorado (pre-Liz's Birth), but is trying to make up for it. kids are a bit shocked, but can tell that he's trying to fix things.
Legacy Route: Jack used to casually bring up the fact that he’s murdered kids before, but the kids always thought he was joking. hey, he joked around a lot, and Dad was always so nice to them, so why wouldn't they think he was joking?
well...when everything's said and done, and both of their parents vanished off the face of the Earth, after a child disappeared at their dad's restaurant...
....now they're starting to consider the possibility that he wasn't joking.
- Jack doesn't necessarily have a favorite, but he is a bit closer to Gigi (especially since she shares a lot of similarities to Dee).
Dave, however, does have a blatant favorite. and it's Liz. she's got his accent, and she was the first.
- Dave (in the Legacy Route) wasn't too enthusiastic about the idea of raising kids, but. he does love Jack (even if it is. Pretty Toxic), and hey! he always wanted a family. maybe this is how he can finally have one! so his feelings on the whole thing are complicated.
Jack, regardless of the route, views this as his second chance after Dee. his chance to Not Fuck Up again. he loves all of his kids dearly, and doesn't want them to get hurt (or to hurt them in the Legacy Route).
doesn't help that Henry’s haunting him AND is trying to communicate with Gigi (y'know. The Kid That Reminds Him Of Dee). as far as Jack’s concerned, Henry already tore his family apart once.
if Jack has any say in it, he certainly won't do it again.
(and in the Legacy Route, it's partially the reason why he vanished after killing Davetrap. he couldn’t look his kids in the eyes after killing their other dad so soon after they'd all gotten reunited again. after they got their hopes up that everything could somewhat go back to normal.
but it's also because he's worried that Henry might push him to hurt his own kids. which, as i said earlier, He Does Not Want To Do)

8 + 21 for your WFRR OCs?
Sure!
Ben
8) Greatest strength and greatest flaw about your OC?
Ben's greatest strength, I suppose, is how dedicated he can be. For example, he's pretty committed to his garden, and he's pretty decent at the bank he works at. All his coworkers think he's a nice guy. So Ben can work hard.
His greatest flaw, however, is his insecurity. Even though he tries to deny it, deep down, Ben knows he's not the greatest guy. And this causes him to lash out on strangers and loved ones alike, and bring all kinds of pain and trouble.
21) Any embarrassing secrets your OC demands you take to the grave but you will share anyway?
One time at college, Ben had the right drink and kissed his dorm mate. It ruined the rest of the year for them both (@slashingdisneypasta if Rena wants to know what made him act up, it was sherry 😏)
Henry
8) Greatest strength and greatest flaw about your OC?
His greatest strength would be his self-preservation instincts, I think. Yes, he's a drifter that gets himself into trouble, but he's kind of done pretty well for himself, all things considering? He hasn't gotten into too many fights, and he knows what risks are worth taking. He's made some mistakes over the years, but for the most part, Henry has survived as long as he had for a reason.
As for his weakness, he can be pretty cocky sometimes and miscalculate his moves. He can bite off more than he can chew, and that's how he gets into the fights and situations he's gotten into. He's had nightmares about some of the people he's encountered, and near death experiences he's had.
21) Any embarrassing secrets your OC demands you take to the grave but you will share anyway?
He considers his relationship with Poppy a secret he doesn't want to share. His 'relationship' with her was the longest and most emotionally involved con he's done by far. He didn't necessarily plan on being her boyfriend until he saw how much money she really had. He knows he hurt her badly, but he's not necessarily ashamed of what he did. He considers it taking advantage of a golden opportunity... But he does remember how kind and loving she was, even if it was a little skewed on her end (this was before Poppy had start self-improving, so she was a bit clingy and her giving Henry whatever he asked mainly stemmed from her fear of being alone rather than her love for him). It's not something he really wants to talk about.
Moony
8) Greatest strength and greatest flaw about your OC?
Moony's greatest strength, other than his muscles, is his willpower. Yes, there are plenty of times his rabid side rears its ugly head. There are many times that his anger issues will get in his way, just like anybody who struggles with emotions. But he's determined to be better and get a hold of himself again as soon as possible. He's always trying his best to be a better person than he was years ago.
His weakness, I would say, is his fear. His fear for his past and what he's done, what's he's capable of doing. He's scared he'll squeeze someone's hand too hard and crush it. He loves closeness and intimacy, but he doesn't want to cut someone with his teeth. Granted, he has grown more confident in himself in this regard, but it's still there.
21) Any embarrassing secrets your OC demands you take to the grave but you will share anyway?
It's not too too embarrassing, but he can get a little flustered when someone figures out how dog-like he really is; he loves ear scratches and belly rubs, he immediately stabds at attention when someone passes by his front door like the mailman or a jogger (he does not bark, though! He's a good boy ^^). If you catch him in the right mood, he'll even go fetch a stick you throw! And then give you the -_- look when he realizes what you did XD
A real embarrassing secret for him, though, is the fact that he's scared of insects. Specifically the flying/jumping ones. He'll yelp and jump a whole foot in the air XD And yes, he does consider it ironic that his ex absolutely loved them the little buggers XD
Poppy
8) Greatest strength and greatest flaw about your OC?
It's definitely her big heart. It takes so, so much for her to be cold, and she'll offer a kind hand to anybody. Yes, she can be in conflict with what is lawfully right, especially if she's in love with a criminal. But she doesn't have a hateful cell in her body. Just like with an elephant or a whale, if Poppy started yelling, or god forbid hitting someone, I would 100% put the fault on the other person.
Her weakness, however, similar to Moony, is her fear. She has been working on herself and she has grown from the doormat that dated Henry, but she does still have some bad habits. For example, she'd much rather avoid conflict rather than take on the problem. Whether it be a mugger or someone she loved. As such, it can be easy to take advantage of her. Another example is how smothering she can come off at times. Especially as a first-time mother.
21) Any embarrassing secrets your OC demands you take to the grave but you will share anyway?
She accidentally set a trashcan on fire and stayed in jail until it was cleared up ☺
Shiny
8) Greatest strength and greatest flaw about your OC?
It's definitely her confidence. She doesn't let anybody shake her, not paying patrons or strangers who think she cares about their opinion. Shiny is not outgoing and loud for feminism. She's outgoing and loud because that's how she wants to be. She doesn't work in burlesque because it was her only option after she hit rock bottom. Shiny works in the nightclub because she wants to. She's doing what she loves, and doesn't let anyone tell her she's worth nothing because of her position in life.
However, her stubbornness and pride can be her weakness, too. It definitely helps her, but it's a double-edged sword for her as well. Shiny can be blinded by herself. It can be hard for her to accept help sometimes, and she can be quick to judge someone she just met- and stick by her judgment for a while. Whether it be thinking someone can do no wrong or they are the devil incarnate.
21) Any embarrassing secrets your OC demands you take to the grave but you will share anyway?
Hmmm... I can't think of any embarrassing secrets she may have. Shiny is pretty open with the people she trusts. And would want them to be the same with her. She doesn't push them to tell her anything, but she's definitely encouraging and receptive to anything you want to tell her ^^
Terry
8) Greatest strength and greatest flaw about your OC?
I haven't developed Terry too much, so this may change in the future. But right now, I think Terry's strength is his innate ability to read the room. You don't have to say a word for him to tell whether you're tired, angry, happy, whatever. He can walk into a room full of people he hasn't met, and he can tell whether or not this is a party or a wake... Ok, bad example, anyone can tell the difference, but what I mean still stands XD
His weakness sometimes is that he's not much of a talker. Which isn't really a bad thing, but he can sometimes fail to really express what's on his mind. Not really because he's actively trying to hide himself, but more like he doesn't realize he's doing it. If that makes sense? When he's told, though, he'll acknowledge the mistake and try to clarify as best as he can.
21) Any embarrassing secrets your OC demands you take to the grave but you will share anyway?
Terry needs something, a blanket or a jacket or whatever, around his head when he sleeps. If he passes out without one, he'll wake up shortly after and curse because his sleep was interrupted XD this can get interesting when he has a few beers and gets sleepy XD
Thank you so much for this ask!! It helped me develop Terry more, and I feel like I cleared up the others a bit more. But it was also so fun!!! ^^

Hi, im super confused about something and I wondered if you could clarify - did Henry VII actually consider marrying Catherine of Aragon himself after Arthur's death, or is that just a rumor that's been blown up out of proportion?
Hi! No, we don't have any evidence that Henry VII actually considered it himself. The only thing we have is Isabella's reaction to the rumour in April 1503:
The Doctor has also written to us concerning the marriage of the King of England with the Princess of Wales, our daughter, saying that it is spoken of in England. But as this would be a very evil thing,—one never before seen, and the mere mention of which offends the ears,—we would not for anything in the world that it should take place. Therefore, if anything be said to you about it, speak of it as a thing not to be endured. You must likewise say very decidedly that on no account would we allow it, or even hear it mentioned, in order that by these means the King of England may lose all hope of bringing it to pass, if he have any. For, the conclusion of the betrothal of the Princess, our daughter, with the Prince of Wales, his son, would be rendered impossible if he were to nourish any such idea. If you should find that the King of England wishes to marry, we will tell you, at the end of this letter, the match which we think would be suitable for him.
Nothing was actually said to the Spanish ambassador—it was a rumour 'spoken of in England', but we don't know by whom: the courtiers, the common people, the king's council, the merchants? We don't know who, but definitely it wasn't Henry VII himself who said it, because Isabella is neither sure 'if he [has] any' intentions towards that marriage, nor if he 'wishes to marry' at all. She preemptively suggests Joanna of Naples, Ferdinand's niece, as a bride.
By this marriage the alliance and friendship subsisting between the two parties would, at any rate, be strengthened. On this account, if you find that the King of England wishes to marry, act in the way and manner which may seem best to you, being careful of the honour of both parties.
Again, she didn't even know if he wished to remarry. In January 1504, almost a year after Elizabeth of York's death, Isabella and Ferdinand once again proposed a match with Ferdinand's niece:
Finally, you are acquainted with what we wrote to you, of late, respecting what you were to say to the King of England about the Queen of Naples, the young lady our niece, but you have not made any reply. In any case speak to him in the best way you can, and endeavour to get to know, completely, the wishes of the King of England.
Half a year later, in June 1504, they still insisted on the idea this time enticing him by way of money:
As to the affair of the match between the Queen of Naples, our niece, and the King of England, we have already written to you what we think should be done. Moreover, although the King of England be a widower, and [has] children, 2,000 dobloons will be given her as a marriage portion. Inform the King of England of this in the way that seems best to you, and learn clearly and decidedly his wishes in regard to it.
It would be at the end of October 1504 that Henry would reply favourably to the idea, asking for a portrait to be sent to him.
The King, moreover, begged me to write to your Highnesses, telling you he had not yet decided to take to himself a wife. Yet, for the sake of your Highnesses, he was inclined to do it.
The ambassador thinks that Henry really wanted the marriage and was simply playing coy, which, then as now, is up to speculation:
Your Highnesses may verily believe that he really wishes the marriage; only it is the habit of this monarch to conduct all his affairs with much gravity and deliberation.
The ambassador urgently asked for a portrait to be made and sent to England (a portrait that would be eventually denied, for whatever reason), and says that Henry really wanted the marriage, 'judging by what I have observed in him, and the pleasure with which he spoke of it' but still shows apprehension at Henry mentioning Margaret of Austria who had also recently become a widow. Henry VII 'spoke much of the Duchess [Margaret of Austria] and her widowhood. But that will in no wise hinder the marriage [with Joanna of Naples], God willing.'
I think there's more than a bit of optimism in the ambasador's exhortation, not only because Margaret of Austria was clearly better ($$$) than Joanna of Naples as a bride, but because later in his letter the ambassador freely admits that he could not trust Henry's words on another issue: 'You may likewise remember that although he gave me many assurances, I did not, and would not, believe him at all, and that I had looked upon it merely as talk.'
Tl;dr: We have no evidence that Henry VII ever considered marrying Catherine of Aragon, or that he ever considered remarrying soon after Elizabeth of York's death at all. On the contrary, from April 1503 to October 1504 he dodged Ferdinand and Isabella's marriage suggestions, going so far as to tell Ferdinand that 'he had not yet decided to take to himself a wife' in late 1504. That would be a rather stupid thing to say if, a year and a half earlier, he had asked the hand of Ferdinand's daughter in marriage. It is certainly interesting how he didn't reply to their suggestion until Margaret of Austria re-entered the marriage market—was he playing with Ferdinand, raising the stakes for a better dowry or alliance treaty? Much to think about!
It is kind of frustrating how every biography of Catherine of Aragon takes that rumour as real evidence that Henry VII wanted to marry his daughter-in-law and was only dissuaded by Isabella of Castile, for sure.
