nordic headcanon hour!!! (Except I'm the rightest person ever)
NONE OF THEM HAVE BLUE EYES.
Music hcs:
Sweden, while the biggest ABBAhead indulges in metal, specifically glam metal.
Norway like metal, but definitely loves classical.
Finland is the biggest metalhead of them all, he also is an avid HxC fan. Pray for yourself in that moshpit, friends
Denmark is legally required to be straight edge.
Iceland is one of those teenagers who says he was "born in the wrong generation" despite being immortal, anyways he's a the Mamas and the Papas fan.
Body headcanons:
Sweden, Denmark, and Finland are bears. No doubt.
Though, Denmark has a bit more of muscle to him because he refuses to go to therapy and goes to the gym instead.
Norway is like a twink, but if a twink was chubby. He's too hairless to be an otter but not skinny enough to be a Twink.
Emil is your average scrawny teenager.
Relationship dynamics:
The Nordics excluding Iceland are in a polycue. Norway is dating the other three, so is Sweden, Finland is dating Norway and Sweden, and Denmark is dating Sweden and Norway

OK! Here's where we left off for the body types on stream! I'm gonna refine and tweak them on my own time but wow I was not expecting to get even this far with the five of them
ALSO! Chat convinced me to make this an actual series. So I'm gonna do another set of characters next week but use the scale of this piece as a reference. So that'll be fun!

the innumerable lives of mickey moreno.
october 21, 1916. scandinavian countries remained neutral throughout the first world war. the war did have a significant impact on the economy of the area, primarily as a result of the british blockade of germany. norway's large merchant marine delivered vital supplies to britain but suffered huge losses in ships and sailors because of indiscriminate attack by the german navy. denmark called up much of its military, but germany still violated danish sovereignty to some extent, for example by mining the øresund. a relatively large number of danes from southern jutland fought in the german army.
in this episode: norwegian spirits will raise your spirit. ha ha.
it was supposed to be a rare quiet night alone, berwald recalled as he sank deeper into the couch cushions. a night with no shouting, or war discussions, or whispers of gossip winding through the air.
and then mickey had knocked on the door, bundled up and dragging a sullen lukas along with the hand that wasn’t holding a bag full of norwegian spirits. and obviously, where lukas went, emil usually was forced to follow. and of course, it only took one glass of alcohol and a plate of köttbullar och lingonbär for mickey to decide that they had to invite matthias.
and now, three hours and quite a few bottles later, the six were sprawled out on the various sofas and seats in the living room, basking in the glow of the crackling fireplace. next to him, tino shifted, sitting half-up and out of berwald’s embrace. “ah, mikki, why were you here, anyway? i mean,” he put a hand to his face, flustered at his own rudeness. “you live with alfred, don’t you?”
the subject of interrogation paused, taking a long drink of what berwald swore was his seventh glass before he answered. “i didn’t want to hear about war anymore. there is always another war, you know?” despite the grave nature of the statement, he giggled into his glass, and then his gaze shifted to matthias. “your men would know, wouldn’t they?”
silence fell before matthias (also drinking- straight out of what berwald counted to be his second bottle) snorted, slapping a hand over his mouth in a failed attempt to contain his howls of laughter. “no, no!” he crowed, falling back into lukas. “we are neutral! whatever wilhelm does to the øresund, we will simply let more men march at his side!”
berwald shut his eyes against the bitter laughter ringing throughout the room, wincing as lukas spoke up. “tell your sweetheart,” he said, leaning towards mickey. “that his brother should think about me, before he starts asking for supplies again.” he took a long drink, eyes dark. mickey blinked, nodding for two seconds before his grin split his face again. “i thought you liked getting fucked by blonds?”
emil groaned loudly from his place in the corner, where he sipped the juice that lukas had poured for him (and that mickey had poured some alcohol into when lukas wasn’t looking), though it was hardly heard over matthias’ and tino’s laughter as the former pulled lukas into his lap. despite his serious statement, lukas couldn’t help but smile as matthias kissed his cheek, relaxing into his arms.
still giggling, tino sank back into berwald’s side, wrapping his arms around him and mumbling something about meidän perheemme before his eyes fluttered shut. berwald reached over, pulling a blanket off the side of the couch and wrapping it around him. as he did so, he caught mickey’s eye.
in the firelight, he seemed to glow, his flushed cheeks giving the impression of the embodiment of warmth against the cold, white landscape outside. he smiled, raising his glass in a silent cheers.
berwald did the same, feeling as though the night hadn’t turned out so poorly, after all.

All the people who are like 'participating in politics does nothing!' like politicians make me mad with rage too with their spineless bullshit and hypocrisy and the rest, and no, they never do near enough and that's very frustrating, and many of them are greedy fucks who would betray us over their own interests in a heartbeat, but it's still a very bad sign to go 'don't vote it's useless' because the revolution isn't going to happen if you can't even participate in the democratic process in your own country and that nihilistic attitude does nothing but hand your country (general you, this goes for all of us) over to fascists, and it's very hypocritical to act like there hasn't been a lot of progress with anti-racism, pro-women, pro-lgbt (among others!!) legislation that was passed in the last 100 years, and that was all due to pressuring the right politicians into it. You don't have to like the politicians, they're not your friends, you just have to pressure them into doing what you want. So, yes, pressuring the right politicians leftwards and keeping them in power is how we've had a lot of very important legislation passed! So, participate in politics, it's literally the least you can do (of course, please do more).

In my head Norway isn't some Twink with just a bit of pudge, he's actually chubby. Not what the Hetalia fandom determines to be chubby which is literally just not starving or bulked up. He is apart of the Nordic 5 (and the polycue which is just all of them excluding Ice), do y'all think they'd just stand there and let that poor man starve? NO.

Just wanted to say hi to another Scandinavian 911 fan with the same name as me😂 / Swedish Frida
Hello Swedish Frida!! I should really stop being surprised at finding other Nordics in my fandoms, because statistically that's bound to happen, but it's always a delight! 🤩

Would you recommend the SSSS comic? I know little of it beside the very beautiful artstyle and premise
Tumblr media
to answer the question of if i would recommend SSSS as a comic: yes, yes i would.
a description for those who don't know: Stand Still Stay Silent is a post-apocalyptic horror + adventure webcomic set in the nordics (norway, sweden, denmark, finland, iceland) that have been isolated from the rest of the world and gone back to their old gods. the the world outside of safe zones is full of trolls and beasts - humans and mammals that got infected by a horrible virus and turned into monsters. the story follows a ragtag crew that ventures into the old world (derelict denmark) on an expedition to collect books.
the comic updated every workday until it concluded in 2022, and consists of two Adventures. the creator had plans for many adventures with these characters in this world, but ended it after two when she wanted to take a new direction with her life.
what i love about it:
- the art is GORGEOUS. it's been a huge source of inspiration for me. open any page and it's a masterpiece, and you will ask yourself "how the FUCK did she update this FIVE DAYS A WEEK"
- the characters are wonderful and endearing. i just, i love them so much. i am so thankful lalli hotakainen exists he is one of my #1 blorbos forever
- the world is so cool. the blend of chunky sci-fi and norse mythology fantasy magic slaps. it goes so hard. i fell so hard for this comic when i got to the big ferry ship with a viking style dragon head prow added to it. it's everything
- it really really gets nordic cultures. it's difficult to explain all the dynamics and nuances but it just gets it. it brings me as a scandinavian a lot of joy to read a story that speaks to my heart this way. the attitudes, the language barriers, the cultural differences... it was so refreshing to me in a media landscape dominated by american stories. when the pandemic hit, i decided to reread the comic because i found such an odd comfort in seeing how it depicted the scandinavian countries reacting to, well, a pandemic.
- there's kittycats
what i don't like about it:
- the most glaring and obvious flaw is that everyone in the comic is white. there's not a single character of color anywhere, not even i background shots or the prologue. there's no mention of the saami people (the indigenous people of northern europe), either. i believe this was done in ignorance more than malicious intent, but the implications are Extremely Bad and it's been bothering me (AND MANY OTHERS) since day 1. that is the number one caveat i will give to anyone wanting to check this comic out. i've been in the discourse trenches and i am not going to excuse this. it's just bad!
- you can tell in the middle of adventure 2 that the creator has kind of lost interest in the work, around the time when she found jesus i guess. like, very few people can keep up work on the same creative project for years and years and years and i think it's fine that she wanted to drop it, but it's a bit sad to see the comic dragged to its end like a limp corpse, and feeling like the creator no longer really cares about the characters.
- minna sundberg has said and done some questionable things, presumably gotten somewhat radicalised over time, and has also converted to hardcore christianity which is what her new works are about. there's nothing about this in SSSS - there is a moment of christianity represented in the story in a sort of mythological sense, just like the other religions, but this was written before minna's conversion. her new works... are a Choice. i have much to say about them, and i have, and im not gonna rehash it now.
SO YEAH hopefully this will help you take an Informed Choice! i got into this comic in 2015 and was deep in the fandom and it's for better or for worse part of my soul foundation now.
i also recommend A Redtail's Dream, minna's "practice comic" before SSSS, based on finnish mythology and the kalevala.

the idea of a white jesus arose primarily in the 19th century, with the emergence of theories that claimed him for an "aryan race" and claimed he was, among other things, of nordic or germanic extraction. of course, medieval european depictions of jesus also show him to be rather lean and fair, but this is arguably less originating in what we understand as contemporary racism and more from a lack of context, a reliance on the known and familiar. how easy it is to erase a heritage. to know what jesus would have looked like we need to think of his mother. mary was from first century palestine. historical evidence suggests that jews of this period were biologically closest to iraqi jews. so she would have been dark-skinned- she was working class and would have known the sun. her olive complexion would be deeper and darker than contemporary art renders her. her black hair would have been oiled and parted, with the part perhaps painted with henna. she would probably have had a nose ring and earrings. she would have spoken aramaic in a broad galilean accent that her son would have also taken on- looked down on by more sophisticated city-dwellers, but nimble enough that jesus, a carpenter in a port town in a colonized territory, would have probably picked up a little latin and greek from the docks too. jesus would have had short hair and a beard in the fashion of philosophers. he would have had mary's black hair and dark skin. they would both have been short- no more than five feet, five inches. jesus walked everywhere, worked his body hard: he was probably lean-bodied. nicephorus callistus in the fourteenth century said mary's eyes were bright, with pupils like shiny olives, and strong eyebrows. i don't know where callistus gets this information, but i like it. i like the idea of jesus and his mother having arched, black brows, dark skin, dark eyes. when we call him jesus christ we call him yeshua the anointed, yeshua whose head has been touched with olive oil pressed from the olive groves of the palestinian countryside.
