also @starlene reminded me of the 5th anniversary of the most batshit unhinged forehead-veins-popping pity the child, courtesy of glenn edell. like a bomb going off for five minutes. it was scary on that front row. loved it
It's now been ten slutty, slutty years since my number 1 musical theatre obsession, the first Finnish production of Jekyll & Hyde, closed... so I guess I could post this observation I don't think I've posted before that happens to combine my old and new obsessions:
I think it's kinda cute how hard they tried to turn Lucy into Satine in that production. I'm absolutely certain none of it was coincidental, their inspiration board for the character must've been 80% Moulin Rouge! stills – Lucy's entrance was literally copypasted from the movie, her costumes had a very Rouge-ish vibe, etc.
Too bad that there is nothing in the text to support the notion that Lucy is a high-class courtesan à la Satine, so having her in all those costumes didn't really make any sense if you stopped to think about it at all. But hey! She looked lovely and it was fun, so whatever.
Brother Gregor never spoke and often spooked the neophytes with his appearance, but he was a gentle soul and a phenomenal cook and knew more ways to prepare a fish than the abbot knew hymns
today marks the happy 315 569 260th second anniversary to the last performance of the first finnish j&h. it has been dead for 315 569 260 slutty, slutty seconds
If you ever feel like you’ve made bad decisions just remember that somewhere out there is a theatre director at an all-white high school about to choose the spring musical
I have, like, eleven or so different Moulin Rouge! the musical metaposts in me, but
1) I don't know if it's really worth it giving the show that much thought. I mean, Jekyll & Hyde already has a permanent lodging in my brain and has never paid any rent all these years, I don't know if I need another mediocre melodramatic musical in there
and
2) I am but a sad little lemon in the orchard of life and traveling has squeezed everything out of me, talk to you again in 15 to 18 business days after I have recovered a little
