the way some people talk/post about their therapists oh my god. like i know many of them are probably exaggerating their stories, and a lot of technically """unethical""" stuff can be perfectly fine in the right context, but im sure there are still a lot of people who think being friends with your therapist is normal or okay or in any way helpful. and tbh seeing enough posts that reinforce that impression might just prevent someone from recognizing a boundary violation when it happens to them

#and to be clear the responsibility #not to cross ethical boundaries #lies with the therapist #even if you like them a lot #they should be the one discouraging you #so the argument that your therapist thinks its fine #isn't necessarily a good one #honestly maintaining a good balance between personal trust and professional distance #is probably the hardest part of their job #by far #but it is part of their job #theres a reason why ethical codes exist #obviously a lot of it depends on one's cultural background and the broader context but #generally speaking #a therapist shouldn't be overly affectionate #they shouldn't be touching you #other than maybe a handshake as a greeting #and tbh you shouldn't know a whole lot about them #self disclosure is a subject of debate afaik because it can be helpful under certain circumstances #or put differently it can be negative when the whole no self disclosure rule is enforced too strictly #and all of that is meant to help the therapy's success #but it also means that there's an inherent power imbalance #that does not translate well into a friendship #so its not just that is unethical and against professional codes of conduct #its also just a very bad idea #&

Calisto Yew was so cool, honestly. Wish they'd bring her back

#me and my constant melody of 'they should bring this underrated amazing female character back' #everyone's always going on about simon keyes this & simon keyes that like. you all really saw a twink in makeup and lost sight of all else #huh #shih na did it so much better. she was the moment and she was soooo cool. she literally used aa fans' predisposed sympathy towards sad #sister characters against them. gave a performance so convincing she tricked a top prosecutor and detective into working with her for YEARS #turned around and got close enough to a top interpol agent again for YEARS without any of them catching on #and all without using the soft docile saccharine persona most the other deceptive characters use #she was so brilliant and poised and clever i miss her so much #i know they probably executed her but i feel like she could be one of those people who get taken in by the govt and used in their own #secret services and shit. she's good enough for it. also she was so? complex? like she was EXTREMELY good at keeping her personal feelings #out of her professional work but she didnt have that malice or hostility that a lot of these types do. she calls lang an idiot but that #mockery is just who she is. she does that for everyone. it's not personal. and there are times when you can tell that she did like the #people she was with. she admits as much with lang yet she always maintained her distance. because she's a professional. she's just so. #she was brilliant truly. what an amazing woman #i miss her so dearly #calisto yew #shih-na #ace attorney #ace attorney investigations

I don't consider Kaidan to be a young wide-eyed kid in me1 per se (he's. Older than Shepard. So the comic thing having Shepard call him a "good kid" is insanely funny to me), and Kaidan is doing well for himself career-wise, but I also think he comes into his own more over the course of the trilogy, not necessarily because of Shepard alone but I do think Shepard helps and encourages him and is just generally an example that inspires Kaidan, as Shepard tends to do for everyone.

Basically there's still a small gap between Shepard and Kaidan in me1 to me (not as pronounced as the one with Ashley) that's closed over time and Miles and Kaidan are much more side by side than a commander and his lieutenant. If that makes sense.

Simultaneously I think of Kaidan looking at Miles more completely and with a little less dazzle in his eyes. He of course still admires Shepard but it's not quite "looking up to him" anymore, it's more admiring him as a friend and colleague, and it's a lot more mutual. (Not to say Kaidan wasn't impressive in me1, but you get what I mean. Major Alenko, not Lieutenant.)

#Miles is the type to purposefully maintain a professional distance. Ezra much less so. #in such a way that things fall to him more. With Miles. It can look like and lead to keeping people at a distance. #there are things that Kaidan isn't going to write off about Miles anymore now that he's led his own squad. #the dynamic shift is important to them getting together but also hard to deal with for Miles #being looked at as a person and not looked up to like it used to be. Like most of the crew still kind of *does* #mshenko tag #oc: Miles Shepard #but it's like. Vital. And it's good. For the both of them. To be people. Like actually I don’t think there’s anything wrong with calling out a prosecutor for discussing a case you’re on with your ex wife in front of your daughter. I don’t really care if “it came up in conversation” and I don’t really see an issue with leveraging that so you can actually get your evidence on time like you should

I also don’t think his ex wife is owed for him getting a dirty cop put away who was literally taunting him about someone unfairly put in jail? Like sorry your case fell apart but maybe if your case is dependent only on a dirty cop it should fall apart?
