The temperature may be dropping, but the competition—the competition—is heating up. Fat Bear Week 2023 has you all in raptures as some of the loveliest brown friends on Earth load up on salmon, salmon, and yet more salmon at the Brooks River in Katmai National Park, Alaska.

These champions-elect are eating their way not just towards the hibernation season, but the coveted title of the state's most rotund bear. Newcomers and fan favorites alike are duking it out for this most prestigious prize as #fat bear week enters these final days. But don't forget—every bear is a winner in Fat Bear Week 2023.

And there is, of course, the live cam from the Brooks River at Katmai, where you can watch the action unfold in real time.

So I may or may not have mentioned it but it occurred to me that one of the ways Sirius could have been the recipient of rumors that he was a “ladies man”….was by just being a gentleman.

When you think about it, he was likely raised to be a gentleman for the sake of it; give room for ladies to walk if he’s in the way, open doors, help if they slip to prevent them from falling, even helping pick up a girl’s books if their bag ripped. Sirius was raised to act this way probably to only pureblood witches. However, he’d have extended this to every girl because he’d feel it’s the right thing to do (which it is but I digress lol).

But the whole “chivalry is dead,” thing was likely as alive in the 70s as it is alive in the present day. So I’d bet money Sirius had to deal with teenage girls thinking he had a crush on them just because he opened the door for them and helped them pick up their books when their bag ripped. Remus and Peter are jealous he’s getting the attention, and Sirius is all ‘It’s common courtesy?!?!” While James is torn between laughing his ass off and feeling bad for his bff.

I completly agree with this HC. In canon, he moves down for Lily and offers Ginny his hand (leaving all the boys on the floor). So I can totally see his more gentlemanly side, being misinterpreted. Particularly as I often picture him with a strong RBF, so it's almost a juxtaposition for him to be holding doors open, etc.

“Yeah, well he’s not here, is he?” he replies angrily, watching the hurt play across her face.

“Sorry,” he apologises quickly, realising the unfairness of his words.

“He said he’d be here,” Natasha mumbles, looking out the window and ignoring the apology.

“Yeah, I know Nat,” he replies, looking at his phone and the door.

“He’ll be here soon.”

Weekend Update 04/14/2024

Nerdie, you’re kinda late tonight.

Yeah, it was all taxes this weekend. 😭 Ugh. But it’s done. Let’s not talk about it anymore.

Back to work after time off. Adjusting and writing. I did watch the Ryan Gosling SNL episode. I laughed so hard.

Chapter 3: Can we talk for a minute? - This is the Neighborhood Din Series.

This week there were a few things, like the writing challenge 2.0 @iamasaddie put together. We sent in asks, pick a color (I did it to myself, I asked for mob enforcer- where else was the fic to go but dark?) Despite being kinda freaked out at what I wrote (I’ll need to process that later) I like it. I usually don’t do dark fics but given recent themes in my writing it’s there. 👀 So I’ll write it if it pops up in the brain.

And this past weekend (I totally missed but sweethearts @perotovar and @honeyedmiller tagged me in) was the @swiftiscruff friendship exchange. From what I saw, people are writing fics for each other, making gif and moodboards and proving much needed friendship and fun. 😎

I’m sure there are other things. But I dunno what they are. 🤣 I hope everyone enjoys what they’re working on. And if you need to rest, drink some water, dance around, nap, all the things.

This week there will another chapter of Din’s neighborhood, I FINALLY have more Din fluff. Well in the neighborhood and Star Ocean Series. I should have another chapter of Benny and actual fluff post apocalypse. It escaped last week. So we’re bringing it back.

No more Ezra and his gumbo or tanktop 🥺 Part 8 will be up next Sunday. His prose will be no more for now. 🙃

My Frankie miniseries will be almost done. This Friday and the next Friday of my math is right. lol

If you were to write a fic in an alternate universe where Sirius reconciles with one (only one) of his parents, who do you think he would he reconcile with and why?

Oooooh this is a great question that’s so tough to answer.

I have to say Orion because there’s less explosive hurt and anger between them (even when Sirius mentions his father in canon it’s slightly dispassionate). Also Sirius prefers Walburga but they are both stubborn and prone to being very cutting when angry.

Whereas I see Orion as distant and Sirius cares less about his opinion and doesn’t crave his love so keenly so it’ll be easier to allow water to flow under the bridge.

Having said this, I don’t see either Orion or Walburga allowing him back without him complying to them in some way and IMO this would be the major sticking point.

A) Nova doesn't know how to swim. That's how they met! She almost drowned at a party and he was there, him and another guy immediately jumped into the pool ans resuscitated her. After that their relationship is very complicated afterwards but full of desire and affection nonetheless.
