2. what was your original concept for this character? how did playing them change that concept?

My original concept for Noble was a lot more edgy and brooding. He fit a lot more into the typical "rogue" stereotype. When I played him though, he became a bit more lighthearted and flirty. Honestly, he fits a lot with the typical "bard" stereotype. He's just a funny guy.

7. there’s a magic item (or technological innovation, or special resource) made just for them—what is it?

It would be a telescope that showed the sky as it was on whatever day he'd want to go back to the most. It would a) be a cool thing for him and b) help him get his priorities straight. I don't he's aware that good things exist in his life, and getting to have a concrete date for a day that he cherishes (and that probably is after Dmitri died) would do him wonders.

21. do they have an idea about how they’ll die? do you?

Liam assumed he'd die before 16, so honestly he's kinda just expecting to die at any moment, which is partially why he's Like That. Right now though, I think he assumes he's gonna get killed. I think if he survives CoS, then his sisters (Talia and Lilian) will kill him.

34. what languages do they speak? how did they learn them?

Common, Elvish, Infernal, Celestial, Halfling, Dwarvish, and conversational in Draconic. He learned them all through books. He spent a lot of time stuck in bed as a kid, and that's how he'd pass the time. He's currently learning Draconic though because he's upset that Lionel knows it and he doesn't.

36. how do they fidget?

By playing music mainly. Or running his fingers over the bracelet Dionysus gave him lately. That's more a nervous tick than a fidget though. He's never still. Even when he's standing, he's kinda dancing around.

40. if you had to remake this character right now, how would you change them?

He's already been remade a lot from his initial concept (he and Cas sort of flipped in terms of who was the extrovert/introvert. Can you believe Cas once was the personable one? His 20 in Charisma means nothing to me). I think I would make him more well-rounded a person, as in he'd have less intense interests in things so as to be a better balance to Cas, who is nothing if not obsessive. They're supposed to be kinda parallels and opposites, but Dmitri also has an all consuming interest in something, which lead to his death, so...

61. is there an in-game moment of theirs you think about and just laugh?

I have two. One from when I played him as a player character, and another from our campaign where he's an NPC:

When I played him, he and his party were meeting with this wizard dude, and someone had asked Cas a question that answering would've involved mentioning Dmitri (at this point in his life, Cas straight up refuses to even say Dmitri's name), and he wanted to avoid this topic so badly, he got up and left. He grabbed the first book he could see and started reading it. It was on a creature called like a ragamuffin or something. He gained proficiency in identifying them.

In the Noven campaign, it's when Cyrus betrayed the party and ran into Cas, and his first reaction was to offer tea and not talk about what happened. My man has never addressed a problem in his life; that is fully why all these problems exist.

Character OCs in DnD

I wrote a long time ago how my characters would DM in DnD, so have this list of what kind of characters they’ll make :DDD

Eri Philomele: Half-Orc, Cleric, Male A really simple character, yet filled with personality. Eri’s character is an half-orc who has been shunned by his own homeland, even more when he was inflicted with corruption under his blood, along with his home. Determined to find a cure for the corruption, he sets off, while hoping he’ll be welcome back to his hometown.

Eri (Modern): Gnome, Bard, Female Drew his own character, Modern Eri’s character is a mischievous young gnome who is, in the simplest terms, ‘a little shit’. Would sing in different melodies inappropriately, and while she doesn’t seduce people, she will keep throwing jokes and melodies until her enemy gives up... much to her group’s dismay as well. Along the ride to study ‘The World’s Melody’. Whatever that means.

Satori: Elf, Rogue, Female Definitely drew her own character as well. Satori’s character is a rogue who is out for revenge, posing as a dancer and going from town to town. Speaks in riddles and usually the first one to catch what’s going on. She is more of an overseer who acts solely for her benefit, but is not above helping others... if there’s something to be gained from it.

Anna: Half-Elf, Sorcerer, Female Dragged in by Lilian to play with her. Extraordinarily beautiful, and usually uses seduction to get her way. If she doesn’t, would usually resort into violence, with lots of kicking around. Ended up being a sorcerer due to overwhelming firepower, and is on a mission to recruit other girls into her personal harem.

Lilian: Half-Elf, Artificer, Female If you’d think ‘Gundam character’, you’re right. She love giant robots, she loves giant guns, but she’s a bit awkward in talking. Really beautiful, but would rather spend her time tinkering with machines. Is currently searching for ‘Quanta-Matter’, an extremely rare and valuable ore to serve as the heart of her giant robot.

Crescent: Goblin, Fighter, Male A small, little goblin who’s distrusting of humans and would rather be on his own, and especially wary of non-goblins. Only joined because the world is tough by yourself. On the search of his father, who’s said to have been trying to improve goblin-human relations, only to never return.

Yuri: “I don’t play pretend.”

Damian Leywulf

Parents own a winery, but he has no interest in taking over when they retire. Luckily he has a twin sister who does.

Spends most of his time when not studying magic copying books for libraries and making illuminated letter manuscripts

Summons illusory flame by flicking his fingers like you would a lighter without even realizing it as an idle way to keep his hands busy. Makes any scribe not familiar with him extremely nervous.

Built like a fuckin brick house from hefting and carrying heavy tomes from the library. When they’re together, strangers automatically assume that his leaner but still athletically framed sister is the wizard and he’s the fighter

Molly Hastings

Mom is a sea deity, and she uses a seashell as part of her Commune ritual since when you hold it up to your ear, you can hear the ocean

Captain of her own merchant vessel that she uses to ship legitimate goods to various ports as well as a portable smuggling hub for pirates to either stash or come aboard to “plunder” fenced goods

Molly isn’t her actual name, nor is Hastings, but she thought it sounded like something both a sea captain and pirate queen would be named

Her husband calls her his Tempe as a pet name, which is short for Tempest

One piece of jewelry she never takes off is a silver locket with her husband’s name in it (the sailor said Molly, you’re a fine girl, what a good wife you would be…)

People think she’s a widow because when she mentions her husband, she says how much she misses him and explains that he’s out to sea. People assume she meant lost at sea and she’s like “no, he’s not lost, I know exactly where he’s at. I just really miss him.”

Sunny Hopesun

Was abandoned at the steps of a temple to Sune as a baby and raised by the priestesses there. Doesn’t know his birth family, but treats everyone there as his family

Ray of sunshine: golden blonde hair, bronzy sun kissed skin, dazzling smile. He’s pretty and he knows it, seeing as making himself physically attractive is his way of showing devotion to Sune

Loves to sing, has a beautiful baritone voice, but it’s untrained and not suited for professional bard work. He doesn’t care, singing makes him happy and that’s all that really matters to him

Got adopted by Lilian as her best friend maybe five minutes after meeting her. As basically a golden retriever in human form, he’s thrilled to make a new friend. He likes it when she braids his hair for him while telling various stories

Lilian Mardoris

Was raised as a noblewoman, but won’t balk at roughing it on the side of the road while traveling. Will, however, call dibs on the nicest room in the inn if given the opportunity

Pretty much claimed a water garden in the place she calls home as her own practice area/meditation space

Big time sweet tooth, is a sucker for any sort of pastry, but anything with honey and dates grab her attention

Adores children, especially just sitting down and letting them approach her to ask how to play whatever instrument she has on her. Giving hands-on instruction and having little ones plucking at strings and having fun learning is one of her favorite types of audience interactions. Will snuggle babies and sing fussy toddlers to sleep given the opportunity

Sunny acts as a younger brother figure for her. She appreciates his support and loves having his companionship. Platonic soulmates? That’s Lilian and Sunny.

5. On an average day, what can be found in your character’s pockets?

Coins scattered across all of his pockets to make life harder for unwelcome hands (he does have a coin pouch but he doesn't take it out unless he has to)

Dog treats for Skippy and any stray good boy he may come across

A loose piece of yarn to fiddle with

A bunch of old notes, pamphlets, and whatever other pieces of paper he forgot to take out

11. In what situation was your character the most afraid they’ve ever been?

Probably obvious, but the dread that came with the premonition of seeing that while lily and the whole sequence up to finding Leandra was unmatched to anything.

Otherwise, being in the Deep Roads during Legacy. In part it was maybe him being scared of finding out what the deal with his father was, but mostly he was afraid that the outcome of his last expedition would repeat.

12. In what situation was your character the most calm they’ve ever been?

Ironically, probably right before the battle with Meredith in the Gallows. Calm before the storm, if you will. Maybe it was acceptance (or well. resignation) and resolve. Or maybe is head was just so overwhelmed with everything that it shut down entirely and refused to feel/think anything idk.

14. Does your character remember names or faces easier?

Faces all the way. Liam remembers faces more in conjunction with whatever he associates the person with, rather than their names. It's gotten him in an awkward situation or two when he forgot the names of the people on a job

42. Has your character ever had a parental figure who was not related to them?

Hmm not really, I don't think. I do like to imagine though that the community in Lothering was small and close enough that all the adults kinda communally kept an eye on all the kids, if that counts.

pleasure to meet you all, my main blog would be @cathedralrefuge (but i mainly use @imagine-the-walrus). i do go by some names, like... walri, or... waws (kou's nickname for me HAHA), or kenway (silver's nickname for me). and no i will not include the canon characters ^^;

basically, i write and draw a lot, so nothing distinctly special about me, just an old artist/writer hag.

anywho, it's time for me to bring you to the character introductions!

the DnD chat:

Nathala – a Tiefling Bard who actively does not perform in taverns (due to her bad reputation... of starting bar fights) and doesn't get paid for her songs—but for her... “contracts” (a.k.a, she kills for money, putting her bard and sword-fighting skills to the test). Has a tall beautiful elf girlfriend named Elyscia :>, and she also takes care of Connor!... (Though, she would need to protect them both a lot more now. wink wonk). Is against the Seven Deadly Sins (especially Greed—we will come to that) due to her mother's involvement with them (accidentally inhaled Greed's venom during a fight and died in her bed).

Elizabeth White – AAAaaa aa A. Half-Elf Rogue! (she's actually an assassin's creed oc sheesh) After the murder of Christian Raynott she doesn't have a permanent home and so she sets up camp anywhere as long as it's far enough from the manor she ran away from (...well she burnt it down, but repairs are being made), is now trying to find a way to get back at the Seven Deadly Sins squad (that's what she calls them) alongside Hypno, Illusion, Beep (she's just taking care of him), and of course, taco man (...Haytham.)

Tsarra – ew disgusting. She's an antagonistic character, the leading Elf Sorceress in the Seven Deadly Sins (the Pride). Ever since Beth killed Christian Raynott she and the other Seven Deadly Sins sought to either beat her up (well, that she accomplished) but then later decided to fully kill her, as merely beating the shit out of her did not satisfy her thirst for revenge. Overall, she's a bitch.

Sylthyra – another disgusting vermin (hah!), she is the Greed listed in previous names. She is another Elf Sorceress that can shapeshift to a King Cobra—but now she has a gauntlet strapped to her forearm that allows her venom-infused blood to shoot out. She's bloody dangerous, and she will kill Nathala on sight should they ever cross paths (have I mentioned how strikingly similar she is to her own mother?).

Sudar – the Lust in the Seven Deadly Sins. Lusting for power most especially, he was the one who made Tsarra realise she had made a grave mistake of sparing Beth right after the nearly-fatal beating and instead should kill her right there and then—but slowly and definitely painfully (and to add insult to injury to burn her).

Baby Myrmi – a baby Myrmidon (...creatures I made up for a realm, hehe... I'll post about them in the future) that integrated with humanoid species for too much that he now can speak words. Favourite fruit is GRAPB (grape) and loves BIG and FIBBY (fluffy) and PIBBY (pretty).

the Earth chat:

Earth!Kenway – a killer with a cause who hopes her son, Beep, would be able to choose what he is able to do, not what she does. Regrets her killings the first ten lives she took, and she painfully admits that she started to grow used to herself being the sole cause of many lives dead, by her own blade and hand. Is now looking for a very important diamond which first started as a simple treasure hunt and now a race against time.

Earth!Alex – the Vulture. Has killed much more than his cousin, Kenway. Has mommy issues (:'>) and often sees visions of the corpses that were mutilated by him and he still didn't realise that was caused by his demons that only overtakes him by said visions. Doesn't feel emotions that much and evidently hates it because once he did feel something, he doesn't know what it is even though he is very intelligent for his age. Well... he has a strained relationship with Lilian, his mother, after finding out that he wasn't her biological son and that she wasn't able to save him. Well, now he's a double agent, and of course Lilian doesn't know that he's helping his cousin and her merry band of Assassins.

Earth!Lilian – a struggling mother from the Order who failed his son and now is trying to help Hypno, and slowly starts to see Kenway as not a manifestation of her own issues but only a mere representation of her mother. Has severe stress due to her conflicting views and her hidden desire to resist against the Order just to protect Hypno. A higher-up due to her intelligence and quick-thinking.

Milaeth – basically, a Sorceress from said realm—Mivuris (from the Buvalon Kingdom). Takes care of Silver and teaches him everything she knows that Earth would share some materials with Mivuris. Plans to teach him to craft an extremely lethal potion that would disintegrate your fingers upon touching it, all in good time.

Adult Myrmi – YEP YEP YOU FUCKIN GUESSED IT. GROWN UP BITCH!!! This time this BIG man is THE war general in MIVURIS! In the Öuryia Kingdom!!! Beheaded the Ekredian War General during a war and that was how he was granted this position. Now on Earth for... reasons

Jennifer Flores – a CIA Agent with ties to both Kenway and Alex, aiding the both of them for the said powerful diamond with weapons-dealing, covert tactics strategies and such. Hardened by battles she fought, there is a reason on why she always wears fingerless gloves.

Hyelius – The Mother of Gods. Ekredian Empress Goddess, may she cleanse your soul from its wrongdoings. May she save you all with her Crescent Moon and Spherical Sun interlocked with one another, living as mere murals behind her. Do not test her patience even though she is generally warm, for her fury is unmatched to a thousand fuming suns.

Mycelia – lol ghost edgy kpop man. But in all seriousness, he drags deserving souls to Hell. The Wrath of the Ember's Chains, he is unforgiving towards those who had committed wrong and is now carrying out said tasks to horrible and cruel criminals that the Eternal Damnation should hold—the Perdition.

the Space chat:

Kenway – think paranoia and killer instinct mixed into one person. That is her. Ran to the ship to escape from the Order, with Alex's help. Went through Hell and back, Kenway stresses more when she started to take care of Beep along with a parasite that gave her new abilities but there are drawbacks, negatives to positives.

Alex – same as the earth tbh lol. But the relationship between him and Lilian are further strained.

Lilian – afraid of failing her daughter as she did Alex, again a struggling mother who questions her allegiance to the Order as she takes care of Hypno.

Education

Education in Thedas varies depending on race, culture, and class, and from nation to nation.

Human nations

Andrastian Chantry

The education provided to those of the Chantry appears on par with that of nobles. Templar recruits are literate and are taught history[1] in addition to their martial training and religious education. Only initiates, those who have taken vows to devote their lives to the Chantry, receive an academic education.[2]

Members of the Chantry, by virtue of their responsibilities, are naturally literate and well-read, in the Chant of Light if nothing else.

Local Chantries may also provide some instruction to their followers and allow access to their texts.[3]

Chantry members may also pursue scholarship. Clerics are the true academics of the Chantry, those men and women who have dedicated themselves to the pursuit of knowledge.[2] The most well-known Chantry scholar is Brother Ferdinand Genitivi, lecturer and author of numerous texts and travelogues. Other scholars search for ancient artifacts and scrolls, such as Sister Justine, curator of the Denerim chantry. Justine is also versed in decoding ciphers and encrypted text.

Circle of Magi

The education of a mage is as extensive as that of a noble, if not more so. Beyond being taught to control their magic, a mage learns of the various schools of magic as well as languages, reading, writing, scrying, healing, etc. A mage's training consists of extensive study of arcane lore.

Much like the Chantry, the Circle of Magi encourages scholarship and publishes the completed research. Examples of this are the botanical writings of Ines and the spirit research of Rhys. Through their education and scholarship, mages are considered some of the most educated members of society and as such may sometimes function as advisers in royal courts.

Circles of Magi have massive libraries and are typically the greatest repositories of knowledge in a given country, though access is naturally limited.

Commoners

Commoners appear to receive little formal education in most countries in Thedas and many may be illiterate. City elves receive even less education than human commoners. As such, dwarven runes may be used in place of writing in some cases.[4] In other instances tally marks may be used to delineate locations or distances.[5]

However, in sharp contrast, those who work as servants in noble estates appear to receive extensive education, at least enough that is sufficient to perform their tasks.[6]

In recent years, Empress Celene Valmont I has been strongly encouraging the University of Orlais to overlook the lack of status and rank for individuals who show prodigious talent or potential which could help further the interests and prestige of the Orlesian Empire, provided a noble sponsors them. Most recently this has even extended to Celene personally interceding in support of an elven math prodigy, Lennan, who was sponsored by Comtesse Helene.[7] Elves are now allowed into the university, although it is common for their work to go unacknowledged and uncredited.[8]

Slaves

Slaves in the Tevinter Imperium are often illiterate[9]; However, some receive formal education and training for specific purposes such as working in libraries, accounting or scribing. Literacy is notable and reflects on a slave's price.[10][11]

To make up for this lack of instruction, Tevinter slaves develop their own pictograms as a way to warn other slaves of things such as a master's temperament and other practical uses related to their society. These symbols go largely unnoticed by their owners and have a local significance, thus the same image might mean different things to different groups.[12]

Fereldan nobility

Among the Fereldan nobility, an education is typically provided by a learned tutor, such as Aldous in the Human Noble Origin. Noble Andrastian families may often have a Chantry Mother as a member of the household to attend to the religious education of the young. Examples of Mothers attached to noble households are Mother Mallol and Mother Ailis of the Cousland and Theirin families respectively.

A major facet of noble education appears to be history, as Aldous drills both the Human Noble and young squires in the household on family history. Reading and writing are naturally part of this education. A noble education does not necessarily make one a strong scholar however, as even King Maric is by his own admission a poor reader.[13] Martial training is also a component of the education of nobility, as nobles are expected by their commoners to defend them and their territories. It is unusual, but not unheard of, for noble daughters to be educated in the ways of war and battle.

Noble education may also include such things as dance and song, as Leliana learned in Lady Cecilie's household.

Noble households may also boast libraries, as Castle Cousland does.

Dwarves

The archives of the Shaperate

Dwarven education in Orzammar appears to be given to those with caste. Little is known of the nuances of dwarven education but it appears that at least part of it, amongst nobles, may be administered by members of the Shaperate.[14] Martial training appears to be a major element of dwarven education in Orzammar, with the best trainers being retained by noble households.

The Shaperate is arguably the largest repository of history and knowledge. Its resources are available to anyone, in order to pursue both personal[15] and professional research. Noble households may also serve as patrons for Shaperate scholars.[16]

However the Shaperate is not the only source of scholarly work in Orzammar. A mining caste dwarf named Grundrak wrote a book named 'On Combustibles and Corrosives' which discusses the use of combustiles and corrosives for best effect and contains the formalae for both the Fire Bomb and Acid Flask. This book was written in the Trade tongue as he was certain that humans needed the advice most of all.[17]

Casteless dwarves

Amongst the casteless there is no formal education; indeed, most casteless dwarves appear to be functionally illiterate.[18] However, noble hunters are literate and highly educated in poetry and other skills in order to make them attractive to noble partners.

Qunari

A Tamassran educating converts

Education amongst the Qunari is administered according to one's role in the rigid society of the Qun. Learning is a core philosophy of the Qunari way of life. In spite of it, many Qunari do not speak the common tongue of Thedas.[19] Amongst Qunari, the tamassrans are arguably the most educated, being fluent in many languages[20] in order to educate, or re-educate, converts to the Qun. Tamassrans raise the young, administer their general education, and evaluate them for placement in society.

Dalish elves

Education among the Dalish appears to be in the main oral,[21] who instruct through the use of lore and storytelling. The Dalish retain their history through oral tradition as well as books in some cases.[22] A clan's First studies lore, magic and history in order to become a successful Keeper.[23] A Keeper is ostensibly a clan's leader and as such is viewed as wise and learned.

Dalish elves hold Arlathvhens in order to reconvene with other clans and to exchange their collected lore.
