「植物と光、依存と自由Ver.1」小田康平X東恩納裕一　 2023.4.28 (fri) - 5.20 (sat)

void+では「植物と光、依存と自由 Ver.1」を4月 14日（金）から、別会場のQusamura Tokyoでは「植物と光、依存と自由 Ver.2」を4月28日（金）から開催いたします。この展覧会は、広島を拠点に東京では代田にショップを構える叢の小田康平と、日常の身の回りにあるものをモチーフに作品を制作する東恩納裕一の初のコラボレーション展です。叢のサボテンは、無作為にカットされ続けた親木や接ぎ木されたユニークな様相のサボテンなど、植物の背景にある個性的なストーリーに耳を傾けた小田独自の価値観をもとに発掘し、時間の経過を経て変化する芸術作品として、また骨董品のように、アートコレクターや建築家など多くのクリエイター達を魅了して来ました。本展では小田のセレクトするサボテンを要素の一つとして、今回初めて東恩納が挑戦した陶器作品を織り交ぜて発表します。東恩納は長らくインテリア(interior＝内面/室内)に着目し、私たちのinteriorを形成するexterior の抑圧を示唆してきました。本展で発表する東恩納の代表作である光のオブジェは、蛍光灯からLEDにアップデートした照明器具としてサボテンに光の環境を与えます。日常生活に自然を取り入れるインテリアとして浸透している観葉植物ですが、サボテンたちが人工的な光に依存しつつも不格好に自由を生きる姿は、東恩納がテーマとしてきた日常に潜む「不気味なもの」（シグムント・フロイト）の概念を暗示しているようです。

私たちや植物にとって光はかけがえのないもの。けれど毎日溢れるように存在する光は、その重要性を軽視されすぎている。東恩納さんの作品と組み合わさることで、「光」というものを具現化し、その存在価値を感じることができる展示になると思う。小田康平

カット、接ぎ木などされる鉢植えのサボテンには自然の人為化が、逆に日常のありふれたテクノロジー；蛍光灯、LEDにはそれがテクノロジーであることを忘れて環境となる、人為の自然化が見られます。今回の「叢」とのコラボレーション、鉢植えされた植物とLEDのカップリングとは“自然”をめぐる2つの異なるベクトルの出会いとすれ違い、異種交配、短絡（ショート）の試みです。LEDに照らし出されるサボテンたちを眺める時、ふっと、鑑賞者であるはずの私たち自身、サボテンたちと同じ“自然”の葛藤を生きていることに気づくのかもしれません・・・東恩納裕一

＜アーティストプロフィール＞

小田康平（おだこうへい／Kohei Oda) 広島生まれ。世界中を旅する暮らしをしていた20代の頃、旅先で訪れたパリで、フラワーアーティストがセレクトショップの空間演出を手掛ける様子に感動。帰国後、生花と観葉植物による空間デザインに取り組むようになる。数年がたち、画一的な花や植物での表現に限界を感じ始めていた頃、ある世界的アートコレクターと出会い、納品後に傷ついた植物を見て発した彼の一言、「闘う植物は美しい」に衝撃を受ける。以来、植物選びの基準を、整った美しさから、『いい顔』をしているかどうかに変える。独自の視点で植物を捉え、美しさを見出した一点物の植物を扱うことを決心し、2012年、独自の美しさを提案する植物屋「叢 - Qusamura 」をオープンした。・・・・・

東恩納裕一（ひがしおんなゆういち／Yuichi Higashionna）東京生まれ。1990 年代より、日常のなかに潜む馴染みがありながらも疎遠な距離感を感じさせる“不気味なモノ”（ジグムント・フロイト）をキーワードに、インテリア/interior をモチーフとした作品を制作する。代表作として、蛍光灯/LED のシャンデリア、モチーフを17 世紀オランダの静物画Vanitas に、技法をグラフィティに触発されたラッカースプレーによる“花の絵画”、ストライプ・モアレを援用したオプティカルなインスタレーションなどがある。

Summary: Headcannons of your (probably) favourite manga creators.

Note: These are not real theories.

• Isayama Hajime (AOT creator): checks out memes about himself on pinterest when he's not out for people's otps and favourite characters.

• Araki Hirohiko (JJBA creator): definitely writes fanfics about him and his characters but it seems his most frequent writes are about him and rohan.

• Oda Echiiro (One piece creator): has a luffy body pillow and a gaimon themed bed set, i'm talking pillow covers, blanket and bedsheet.

• Junji ito (tomie...etc creator): falls asleep listening to horror stories on youtube, with a peaceful smile on his face.

• Gege Akutami (JJK creator): meets up every once a month with isayama hajime to talk about how hard they're gonna fuck their fans over. They talk over this while drinking strawberry milkshakes and giggling obnoxiously.

• Ken wakui (tokyo revengers creator): has a folder full of the edits of his characters on every social platform he's on. Thirst traps of them too.

• Horikoshi Kouhei ( MHA creator): once found a book of Midoriya and All might in his fanmail, this was a hardcover novel that had 45 pages with very elaborate drawings of the two characters in very 'weird' positions. The manga artist was too stunned to speak.

• Tatsuki Fujimoto (Chainsaw man creator): most of the scenes found in their manga are fever dreams they've had.

• Kubo Tite (Bleach creator): practices byakuya's bankai every morning in the mirror in order to out do the character's voice actor.

• Akihito Tsukushi (Made in the abyss): definitely has a piss kink. How do i know? Watch the anime first.

• Gotouge Koyoharu (Demon slayers): has a room where they keep every possible sanemi merch you could think of from his nichrin blade to his favourite underwear.

• Murata Yuusuke (one punch man creator): has tried to do saitama's workout regimen and failed woefully. He could only do 18/100 push ups, 10/100 sit ups, 20/100 squats and couldn't make it to 3km out of the 10km run.

• Ishida Sui (tokyo ghoul creator): once ate a spider because of a dare and said it had a weird texture but exotic taste, in short, he would do it again and 100% recommends you do too.

See kishimotos misogyny is insane but at the same time you have to give it to him that he was not a fucking creep about the minor characters and overall his designs are not that fanservice-y as other mangakas so i think his sexism is more present in his writing decisions and it doesnt feel as violently in your face as fucking horikoshi "introduces women and immediately friges them/shoves them aside" "draws borderline porn of teenage girls" (hagakure drawing of her naked which honestly is straight up porn) "every female character gets a fanservice scene" "gross comments about eri" "women running around naked/almost naked" kohei, and then theres also oda but i feel like hes the opposite of kishimoto in that hes totally fucking gross in how he designs women but at least he writes them well so its a more of a mixed bag and i can kinda live with how he draws women and the fanservice because at least the women are complex characters and actually fun to read about

#so they all suck but i hate horikoshi so much it makes me see red
