Hiii Lolo!! 💕 This is for the favorite fics ask game! I got a little carried away because I was so interested/excited...here ya go! 😊 🎭 😱 🥰 👩‍👩‍👧 👩‍⚕️ 🎲 ♾
If you don’t want to answer them all that’s completely fine!! Thanks in advance! Love ya!! Hope you’re having a lovely day because of course you deserve it!!! ☀️💓
(THANK YOU FOR SENDING ME THIS DEAR. i wanted to wait to respond until i could do some deep diving and give you a real answer. as a fic writer myself, i do tend to reread my own stuff, but i don’t want to me indulgent or anything so none of it is here but sljgksg i hope YOU are having an amazing day and i’m so flattered that you cared to ask.)
😊 a fic you like to read when you’re happy
drinking salted water by grimgrace (THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN)
this fic is so familiar to me it’s like a warm, spidey scented hug. one of the first fics i read over and over because it was simply perfect with just the right amount of bittersweet. happy endings and spidey kisses? i’m S O L D
Poster Boy by MilkshakeKate (THE MAN FROM UNCLE)
milkshakekate is simply the best and my favorite tmfu writer, which is saying a lot because that is a dedicated writing fandom there and i owe them my life. anything they write is incredible, but something about the secret rendevous mid mission and all the uniform stuff really uh. got me.
Gwen Stacy and the Wonders of Spider-Sex by Jenetica (THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN)
i’ve read this so many times i could not tell you. the relationship growth? the intrigue? THE HOT SPIDEY OF IT ALL! never been and never will be disappointed by this fic.
B O N U S
the language of touch by moodyreindeer (CLOAK AND DAGGER)
alright this section of ao3 & fanfic.net is tiny for one of my favorite pairings but i fell in love with this fic the first time i read it and have never fallen OUT. it’s so genuine to them and i love it sm. idk. read it, it’s GREAT.
🎭 a fic you like to read when you’re sad―either to cheer you up or because it matches your mood
Reckless by ninemilestogo (THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN)
a truly detailed tasm au where my kids are ANGSTY but end up happy and also the best use of the comic book villian chameleon ever. although to be fair, i haven’t read enough of them.
😱 an angsty fic
may i feel, said he by sugargroupie (ONE TREE HILL)
on the surface this is smutty, but it’s my favorite naley fic OUT THERE in these streets. the writer does teenage nathan so well i yell a lot on the inside. i don’t know how many times i’ve read it.
The Man, the Mystery, Richard Castle by RachelCAstrid (CASTLE)
one of the first castle fics i stumbled upon after my rewatch and it has my whole heart!! it’s sweet and angsty and in depth, and you can’t lose by reading it. DO IT. i dare you.
B O N U S
the sole relentless tenderness by satellitesonparade (YOUNG JUSTICE)
wally and artemis will make me cry for the rest of my life, and this is one of the best writers for it, so yeah. gift yourself. read it. sob saltily.
🥰 a fic for people in love
She thinks it’s funny that they’re awkward in bed by Emma_dghc (CASTLE)
this just makes me swooooooooon. i love intimacy and little moments a lot in my fics, it’s what sells me on relationships between characters, and this did an incredible job! one of my favorite fics set in season five, which is a fic fave for me i suppose with this pairing.
by any other name by FreshBrains (DIRTY DANCING)
after i watched and fell in love with the movie i combed through the archives and THIS was my favorite one in the whole place! it’s just so, so lovely. i find that with older films it’s harder to find things that feel written true to character, and this knocked it out of the park.
Bodies at Rest by PollyLynn (CASTLE)
at this point in my life i have a read (read: a LOT) of caskett fanfics in my time and there are many more in my future, but this really stands out to me as one of my favorites. their burgeoning relationship season 5 is truly - chefs kiss - and it’s the first (or second?) fic of @pollylynn ‘s that i ever read, and without it i wouldn’t have begun to work my way through all of their incredible stuff! check them out, they are a gift.
👩‍👩‍👧 a fic that makes you your appreciate your (found) family
The Team by loveJLforever (YOUNG JUSTICE)
the og young justice crew is one of my FAVORITE found families and i envy anyone who can do GC format because that shit is taxing as hell. this is hilarious and in character and i’ve read it through multiple times.
👩‍⚕️ and a hurt/comfort fic you like.
Teach Me To Live by dontoutchthefics (PHANTOM OF THE OPERA)
at this stage in my life i kind of set up a house on ao3 and rarely dare to venture to my old place on fanfic.net, but for this story it was absolutely worth it. it’s a gorgeous phantom of the opera modern/coffeeshop au that still has singing and this authors prose is STUNNING. it was a fic i stumbled across simply due to @ilustrariane ‘s INCREDIBLE commission which i highly suggest you also check out.
🎲 one fic that made you change something about your life, and what:
Lessons for the Lost by KayMoon24 (MULTI-DISNEY)
this was literally the first and only time that i actually connected enough to email back and forth with any fanfic writer online! their prose and respectful + in depth taking on different topics just blew my mind for a disney fic and it’s still top tier in my head. it inspired me so much i started my own (which, ain’t as good at all), but this is the best one of its kind. wherever you are kay, ilysm!
B O N U S
The Horizons Saga by njsafkbj (link is for Part I of VII, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON) is a gorgeous fic written before we even knew there would be another HTTYD that is so well done about Toothless and Hiccup recovering from the events of the first movie and growing and yeah.
♾ one fic you tell yourself not to reread because it makes you feel SO MUCH but you always end up going back to it
the world fits inside your arms by flyingthesky
one of the first works i ever bookmarked on archive of our own, possibly the one fic about real people that i love. it’s so lovingly written, and i see it as i guess a sort of real life au idk, but i reread it whenever i’m feeling bittersweet and angsty because it sends me right back to 2013-14 when emma stone and andrew garfield owned my life and had no clue.
B O N U S
The Next Great Adventure by brella
hands down best young justice fic i have ever or will ever read. season 3 of young justice exists in a different universe to me, this is the best fix it fic ever, and i reread it once a year to put myself through hell and back, not unlike wally in the speedforce.
HONORABLE MENTIONS NO ONE ASKED FOR
royally flushed by satellitesonparade (YOUNG JUSTICE) princess diaries wally/artemis au
Mistaken Messages by MistyMountainHop (THAT 70′S SHOW) jackie/kelso soulmate au

so bad but he does it so well by greenconverses (PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS) percy/annabeth college punk/princess au
Poor Unfortunate Soul by makapedia, Peregrine Williams, witchynick (SOUL EATER) maka/soul succubus au
and the camera flashes (make it feel like a dream) by ladililn (BROOKLYN 99) jake/amy celeb photographer/celebrity au

Riverdale S4 Ep7 Thoughts *Spoilers*
- FRED 💔💔💔Coming DIRECTLY for my heart I see, okay Riverdale
- WAIT… YOU’RE TELLING ME NO ONE RAN AGAINST HIRAM SO NOW HE’S THE FUCKING MAYOR? I, despite knowing nothing about how to be mayor, would run against him SOLELY so he wouldn’t win and I know I’d win because NOBODY trusts or likes Hiram fucking Lodge………………. god this show
- Do they guys not know that “the guy from the community center” is the one that found and took Dodger to the hospital? I mean I guess not because Archie’s a minor and doesn’t HAVE to stay, he could have just dropped him off and left but like… this is some fucking reaching shit right now. Archie as their enemy has never gone after them without Dodger attacking FIRST. He’s trying to help the KIDS, how does that make you think HE is the one who fucking did it???? The fucking reach… but also…. who DID do it 👀👀 Probably Hiram’s bitch ass…
- This bh scene of them talking on the phone while Betty packs could have been cute but at the same time it’s bh. Plus, I find it hilarious that Jughead doesn’t wait for Betty to say “I love you” back like???
- I love Choni, but God Toni looks EXHAUSTED. I hate how they’ve turned one of the healthiest ships into… this. Toni loves Cheryl which is why she’s not leaving her despite all of this batshit crazy shit going on, but Toni is caring and hardheaded (before they took away her personality smh) and she would shut this dumb Julian and Jason shit DOWN. Just let my girls be happy again, please… putting Cheryl through all of this bullshit CONSTANTLY is getting real old, real fast.
- Why do people always get afraid of killing someone when it’s self defense?? Like, you won’t get in trouble! You were P R O T E C T I N G yourself/someone you love. It’s the same mistake Alice/Betty made with that mystery guy that tried to hurt Chic or whatever, it was self defense but God forbid anyone actually goes to the police and doesn’t have something to use against them later on 🙄🙄🙄
- Veronica goes above and beyond I wanna cry
- Hiram really has to be a bitch ass ON THANKSGIVING? What a real dick… BUT YASSSSS FP BEING ON ARCHIE’S SIDE WE STAN
- FP not quitting because he knows that’s what Hiram wants, ALSO because he’d just put in another Minetta… ALSO SUPPORTIVE FALICE UGH WE STAN! Can they just get married already? They’re basically already married and I’m soft for them.
- FLIRTY ALICE! FLIRTY ALICE! FLIRTY ALICE! FLIRTY ALICE! FLIRTY ALICE! FLIRTY ALICE! FLIRTY ALICE! FLIRTY ALICE! FLIRTY ALICE! FLIRTY ALICE! FLIRTY ALICE! FLIRTY ALICE! FLIRTY ALICE! FLIRTY ALICE! FLIRTY ALICE! FLIRTY ALICE!
- Hermosa does realize that the only reason she’s actually invited to a dinner with her father and his family is to manipulate Veronica, right? Like, throughout ALL the years even after her mother died we can tell he didn’t invite her because Veronica didn’t know about her. Like… I just…
- YES VERONICA!!!! WE STAN THE QUEEN BAD ASS BITCH OF RIVERDALE!!
- MARY 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔 GOD I’M SO SAD
- Toni’s hair is amazing, and Cheryl’s dress is FIRE
- JUGHEAD WAS THINKING OF MR. CHIPPING WHILE HAVING SEX (I mean it’s implied because they’re cuddling in a bed and the way they’re holding each other tends to be how they hold one another after sex) I’M—THAT’S SO FUCKING FUNNY. I love that when they have sex both of them think of literally ANYTHING else.
- Betty with that hair and that shirt? Yes. See, if they weren’t almost step-siblings and didn’t bring out the worst in each other, this soft scene could actually be cute!
- BETTY… ORDER CHINESE FOOD? THERE’S A LEVEL 4 STORM OUTSIDE?? WHO WOULD BE OPEN DURING AN ICE STORM? Then again… Veronica is the baddest bitch and a go-getter so Pop’s would definitely still be open (also because of the still)
- POWER MOVE ALICE OMGGGGGGG FP IS LIKE “WTF NO”
- First of all, that “Yes my fantasy of eating junk food for thanksgiving!” Betty was so cute… but like that’s also a really weird fantasy… although they are almost step siblings, are still together, AND fuck to serial killer documentaries like weirdos so
- lmao “I’m too cool for everything” Brett put on that bunny mask… to scare Jughead? I know he’s annoying (although not as much this season THANK GOD) but damn you buried the kid let him breathe
- This dumb blonde bitch really thinks this kid brutalized Dodger like that despite CLEARLY being a sweet person like??? Maybe pay attention to the clues and don’t just take their word (who also said it was PROBABLY if I’m remembering correctly)
- That pajama jughead with Veronica in her PJ’s,,, the perfect duo that Riverdale will never give us. How fucking tragic 😭😭😭
- What, does Betty suddenly know how to make some kind fo truth serum or something?
- ALL THIS FRED TALK I’M SO SOFT BITCHHHHHH PLUS SHADE ON HIRAM?! Also,,, you can’t give a previous alcoholic drinks, also also that speakeasy is not yours but umm… it’s for Fred so I’ll let it pass
- LMAO BETTY YOU ARE NOT IN THE SERPENTS FUCK OFF. YOU SAVED A DOG. Oh bitch I just KNOW people are going to use that in those not-really badass edits of Betty… but at least Betty KNOWS that she’s not a sweet/nice person lol. Doesn’t mean I don’t miss when Betty was actually a nice, sweet, good person back in season one though
- OH MY GOD ALL OF THE KIDS STANDING UP FOR ARCHIE YESSSSSSSSSSS! WE STAN!!!!
- Can’t she just wait for, idk, dodger to get out of his coma and then ask him who did it? Like I know it was Hiram hiring someone but like???
- VERONICA OH MY GOD THE BADDEST BTICH OF RIVERDALE!!!! WE STAN!!!! STAB HIM HUNTY YESSSS
- YES MARY!! THE QUEEN OF RIVERDALE! Also them being surprised that she went mama bear? girl wbk Mary was a badass not to be fucked with
- HIRAM STOP TRYING TO MAKE FP GET DRUNK WE KNOW YOU’RE TRYING TO FIND A WAY TO FIRE AND REPLACE HIM
- OOH BITCH FP NO ONE IN THIS ROOM WILL CARE IF YOU KILL HIRAM. THEY’LL KEEP IT A SECRET!!!! Also,,, Billy Loomis vibes and uhhhhhhhhhhhhh YES
- WAIT,,, THEY REALLY FUCKING… OH BITCH??????
- NOT ANOTHER TEACHER STUDENT AFFAIR OH MY FUCKING GOD. DONNA I TRUSTED YOU, WE ALL TRUSTED YOU.
- “I’m a serpent, every bone in my body is a Serpent.” YES BRING BACK THE SERPENTS, TAKE OVER FROM JUGHEAD AND MAKE ALICE THE QUEEN YES UFDSOHFSHFS WE STAN FALICE
- Choni is so soft ughhhhhhhh <3
- UGHHHH NOW ONLY IF THEY COULD MAKE CHONI GET OUT OF THAT DAMNED PLOTLINE THAT’S RUINING THEM THEY COULD RULE RIVERDALE AGAIN
- NOT BETTY REALLY BELIEVING THAT DONNA WASN’T MANIPULATED… and people still want to call Betty a feminist icon? She’s ANYTHING but.
- How would you not realize a camera in your room?? It’s BLINKING.
- “Dig in, everyone.” A SOBBING
- “We monitor our patients very closely” *patient is gone* cliche of course… there’s no way they could get him out without tripping any alarms. My mom was in the hospital and on a respirator because she couldn’t breathe by herself and ANY slight movement that meant she couldn’t really breathe it would do like this jingle and it was really loud and wouldn’t stop until a nurse came in to fix it. But anyways this is Riverdale and nothing is realistic
- Mmhm Betty once again butting into things she shouldn’t and hurting someone in the process… why do people think she is a good detective again?
- NOT THIS BEING USED AS A WAY FOR JUGHEAD TO QUESTION DONNA’S STORY OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDD
- OMG ARCHIE PLAYING THE GUITAR AGAIN PLEASEEEEEEEE MY HEART
- THAT WAS YOUR DAD WATCHING OUT FOR US PLEASE SOMEONE GRAB MY HEART BECAUSE IT JUST FELL TO THE FLOOR.
- A PLAQUE FOR FRED I’M SOFTTTTTTTTTTTTT
- FP WEARING A LEATHER JACKET THAT I’M ASSUMING IS A SERPENT JACKET.
- If this means my Serpent babies are going to come back…. I’m going to CRY.

Favourite Episodes of Season 7 of Charmed
Season 7 is a real mixed bag for me. I really like Zankou as the demon of the season - honestly the best demon on the show. But I didn’t really like the whole Avatar storyline.
1. The Bare Witch Project
This episode is probably the most ‘in your face’ feminist episode the show ever did (there might be one more in season 8). Most of the feminism in this show is just really subtle - just having kickass woman fighting evil every day and having a ‘normal’ life. I think they could have gone a bit deeper on some things but I kind of like that it was simple empowerment. I just kind of like being able to watch it and not be reminded of shitty things happening in the world!
But I just love this episode for how one small thing like Godiva riding horseback naked was such an important moment for women’s history. I just like how it was done. That final scene with Phoebe riding horseback naked for a cafe to allow women to breastfeed was EVERYTHING. I assuming Alyssa actually did it and it wasn’t double because it seems like an Alyssa thing to do
2. Cheaper by the Coven
One of the rare episodes where Victor, Patty and Penny were all in the same episode which is probably why I liked it! Also seeing the girls act like children was fucking hilarious! I loved the moment when Phoebe is calling Leslie and then hanging up immediately then Piper steals her phone and starts making fun of her and Victor is just watching smiling - its a simple moment but it was good.
I loved seeing Patty as a mother. How she worked out what was happening with Wyatt because of what happened with Piper when she was little was cute. Also having her talk about how her and Victor would have made good parents, and how difficult it is to leave.
3. Styx Feet Under
This episode is just Piper being fucking done with everything and everyone and it is hilarious! After she gets turned into Angel of Death and Paige is having to deal with the cops and having to deal with Piper yelling in her ear while acting normal was so funny. Piper telling her to act sadder and then yelling when the police started taking her body.
I do wish there was a bit more emotion from Piper when she was about to take Paige to the afterlife. But I could understand that she realised that this was the way things worked in the world of death. Much like how Prue had to realise that death wasn't the enemy.
4. Something to Witch Over Me
Maybe I like this episode because it has Chris in it... maybe that is the reason?!
But I do like that we got to see more of the Avatars. We had seen them very briefly in season 5 when they recruited Cole. Which by the way I wish they fucking addressed in the show somehow. I feel that would have been a really good sign that they might not be a good thing. Them recruiting one of the most powerful demons as part of their grand plan sounds bad.
I do feel like Leo didn't have much of a choice into becoming an Avatar. Especially since Piper and Phoebe were dead. He had to become one to save them.
5. There’s Something about Leo
This one I feel was a good one watching live because of the fact Leo tells Piper and the sisters the truth and how shitty it turned out.
Kyle was a fucking crazy person. I really didn’t like his character much.
6. Witchness Protection
I LOVED THE SEER AKA KYRA I WANTED HER TO STAY! Phoebe and her bonding were so fucking adorable. I feel they all would have been good friends.
Also finding out what happened to Sheridan was fucking messed up. Kyle was an ass!?
This is also the first introduction to Zankou who I love.
7. Extreme Make Over: World Edition/Charmaggedon
I do wish that the sisters were able to live in this Utopia world and able to have the lives that they wanted to live but it just isn’t the case for them, unfortunately.
It kind of annoyed me that as soon as they made Utopia Leo then started questioning shit. Like why weren't you questioning this at the beginning? Like there is obviously going to be a catch to living in a world where there is no conflict.
Phoebe having to get Piper to feel Leo’s ‘death’ was so sad. Making her listen to her son’s crying and then her feeling her grief was so sad. Paige as well. Paige crying and saying ‘i don't want to’ broke my heart
I didn’t like Kyle much and I don’t really think he deserved to be a whitelighter but like of course the Elders made him a whitelighter *eye roll*
8. Show Ghouls
I don’t know why I like this one. Especially since this episode gave me nightmares when I watched it live. I am someone that is terrified of fire and the thought of being stuck somewhere that is burning with no escape is fucking horrifying to me which is probably why it gave me nightmares.
It was nice to see Phoebe having fun with the witch stuff again. I also really liked Drake and his sense of humour. He was able to bring out that fun side of Phoebe again which was great.
9. The Seven Year Witch
150 episodes of Charmed! I loved that they bought back Cole/Julian. I do wish he had some scenes with Alyssa but nevermind.
I loved when Piper collapsed and she is like oh am I dead again? Piper and Cole is a combination we never saw that much in the show so it was kind of cool to see Julian and Holly play off one another.
I am still really pissed off with the fact Elders interfered with that test Leo was on. They are the fucking worse. They are all high and mighty but they would hate it if they were proven wrong aka Leo choosing his family over his job.
The only good Elder is that female Elder. She is the only decent one.
8. Death Becomes Us
This episode (and the next episode) are probably the best of the season. I loved how Zankou made the sisters vulnerable. Bring back innocents that they had lost to come and attack them was fucking brutal. I would have thought Inspector Davidson would be more pissed at Prue considering she was the one that didn’t save him at the end. But I could also understand why he was pissed at Phoebe as well.
I wish we could have recognised who Piper’s innocents were. One of them would have definitely been that Doctor that died because he had their powers in season 2, in my opinion. Imagine if Zankou bought back Prue as a final hit... that would have been fucking rough! Especially since Piper had to blow up the bodies to save her and her sisters!
9. Something Wicca This Way Goes
This episode would have been perfect as a series finale. It was intense. It had elements of the Season 3 finale. I remember watching this when it was live in New Zealand I was freaking the fuck out thinking that it was the end of the show, which was obviously their intention because they didn't know if they were going to be renewed. But I was so sad thinking my favourite show was going to end.
I like they mentioned things from the past like Quake, past demons like Banshee. It had the nostalgia factor I personally love. I liked that they also mentioned Prue and had her be a major part in them surviving. Also having her in spirit close the door at the end was amazing.
The scene when Piper was saying goodbye to Wyatt and Chris not knowing if they were going to make it out alive was fucking heartbreaking.
I also loved that Darryl figured out the sisters were alive by one simple look. I loved Darryl and I wish they gave him more to do in the show - got to see more of his family and him on the job or something.

Currently Airing Cartoons to Watch: 2019 Edition Part 1
You may remember my list of upcoming cartoons to look out for last year, but this time around I would like to do something different! I am personally recommending cartoons that are currently airing (or are confirmed to get more seasons) and give my opinions on each of them. There may be other good cartoons out there, but if they are not on the list, it means I was not a huge fan of it, it’s a super popular show like Steven Universe or Star vs. the Forces of Evil, or I have yet to watch it. If you are looking for something to watch, this is the list!
Currently Airing:
The Dragon Prince
Tumblr media
Summary: The Dragon Prince is an epic fantasy series by the head writer and director of Avatar: the Last Airbender. In the magical land of Xadia, magic comes from six primal sources. But when human mages create a seventh kind of magic, Dark Magic — they begin capturing and harvesting the unique magical creatures they need as ingredients. This sparks a catastrophic war between Xadia and the Human Kingdoms. Three kids from opposite sides of the conflict — two human princes, and the elven assassin who was sent to kill them — discover a secret that could change everything. They decide to join forces and go on an epic journey that may be their only hope of ending the war, and restoring peace to both their worlds.
Tumblr media
Opinion: This is probably my favorite currently airing show right now, mostly since I am a huge fan of fantasy shows. Dragons, extremely hot elves, and magic- what more could you ask for? Every one of the characters is complex and likable (well most, depending on who you ask). But even the antagonists are compelling at there are always shades of gray present. Season 2 truly blew me away with how much the stakes were raised and the number of surprises that occurred. There is even going to be a AAA cross-platform video game coming soon set in the same world! The company that creates The Dragon Prince, is doing a fantastic job on their social media (it’s hilarious, trust me), and I cannot wait to see what else they create. A quick warning, the animation from season 1 will take a little while to get used to, but for the most part, it has been improved for Season 2.
Also, there a lot of memes, so get ready for that.
gen:LOCK
Tumblr media
Summary: In gen:LOCK, Earth’s last free society is on the losing side of a global war, and recruits a diverse team of young pilots to control the next generation of mecha—giant, weaponized robot bodies. These daring recruits will find, however, that their newfound abilities come at no small cost. As Julian Chase leaves behind his life as a fighter pilot to become the first candidate for the program, he finds his endurance, as well as his very identity, will be tested beyond anything he ever imagined.
Tumblr media
Opinion: For any current/past fans of Voltron: Legendary Defender- WATCH THIS SHOW! If you are a fan of mechas, you will surely enjoy this. But if you were more a fan of the character interactions from VLD, this show also has you covered. It has an amazingly diverse cast and even has a canon genderfluid character. It is a show made for adults, so the stakes are real and dark subjects are treated seriously. Even the romance is done very well with the characters acting like adults instead of arguing over each other like teenagers. Even from the first episode, you can tell that the show is willing to take risks and is sure to become one of the greatest shows of the decade. The animation is also beautiful, and is definitely the best looking show Rooster Teeth has created. The fan base is super small right now since the first season just aired and is RT First exclusive. But trust me, it is worth a watch.
Carmen Sandiego
Tumblr media
Summary: Carmen is a modern day Robin Hood traveling the globe and stealing from V.I.L.E. and giving back to its victims. Carmen is publicly perceived as a criminal by most law enforcement agencies – correction, make that a master criminal due to the sheer scale and theatricality of her heists. We will follow her escapades and get to determine not only where but WHO in the world is Carmen Sandiego?
Tumblr media
Opinion: This show really caught me by surprise- I was fully expecting a kiddy edutainment show, but what I got was something much more complex and intriguing. Carmen this time around, as the summary suggests, is an anti-hero, and not an antagonist or villain like she was in the past. While some may not want to watch it due to this, I think this take on her is done very well, and once you get past the two-episode backstory, you will find the show is fun with a diverse cast of characters from all over the world. This GIF doesn’t quite do it justice but trust me when I say this show has some one of the best looking art styles I have ever seen. Surprisingly the weakest aspect of the show is the educational factor, which is puzzling as it was very much promoted as a show to teach children geography. In some cases, I have seen posts/tweets pointing out factual errors the show made! Normally it wouldn’t be the biggest deal, but this is a show that prides itself for its educational value. Also, some of the characters have pretty flat personalities or are just straight up incompetent, but hopefully that will change as the show progresses further. The finale was amazing, and I am patiently waiting for the next season!
Tangled: The Series/ Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure
Tumblr media
Summary: Set between the events of the feature film and the start of the 2012 CGI short film, Tangled Ever After, the animated series unfolds as Rapunzel acquaints herself with her parents, her kingdom and the people of Corona. Her irrepressible spirit and natural curiosity about the world drives her to the realization that there is so much more she needs to learn before she can truly accept her royal destiny. She boldly puts her crown and impending marriage on hold to seek out epic adventures, much to the dismay of the King who, after missing out on Rapunzel's childhood, must accept that his daughter is now an independent young woman. Accompanying Rapunzel on her journey will be Eugene Fitzherbert; the plucky chameleon sidekick, Pascal; the no-nonsense horse, Maximus; most of The Snuggly Duckling's pub thugs; and newcomer Cassandra, a tough-as-nails handmaiden, who becomes Rapunzel's confidant.
Tumblr media
Opinion: This series is truly a delight, and definitely exceeded my expectations for a television series based off a Disney show (I did not expect much as most of those types of shows from my childhood weren’t the best). But I was truly wowed, and this is a must see for any Disney fan.The series does not ignore anything that happened in the movie, far from it. Events that occurred in the movie still impact Rapunzel and are treated seriously. The cartoon mixes comedy, adventure, lore, and mystery quite well. It is also very beautiful, much like Carmen Sandiego (both have similar styles but I like CS’s lighting a bit more). The show can even get quite dark, as is evident with the season 1 finale. This show deserves a much biggest fanbase, so give it a watch!
Hilda
Tumblr media
Summary: Hilda follows the journey of a fearless blue-haired girl as she travels from her home in a vast magical wilderness full of elves and giants to the bustling city of Trolberg, where she makes new friends and discovers mysterious creatures who are stranger –and sometimes more dangerous– than she ever expected. Based on graphic novels by Luke Pearson, who storyboarded for Adventure Time.
Tumblr media
Opinion: Hilda is definitely a comfort show, and if you liked Gravity Falls there is a good chance you will also like this show! The art style is simply adorable, and Hilda is a delight to get to know. I love the way that the show not only has magical creatures, but it goes in depth into how these creatures live and survive in a modern world. Having read all the comics, I personally enjoyed the addition of Hilda getting some human friends. I know some people did not like this, but she seemed quite lonely once she moved to the city, and I liked seeing her interact with children her age. Season 2 is coming out next year, so there is plenty of time to watch the first season! If you love a feel-good show with mystery and magic, this is the show for you!
Star Wars Resistance
Tumblr media
Summary: The series is set between the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, in a time when the Resistance is still learning about the growing threat of the First Order. It centers on the character of Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot in General Leia Organa's Resistance who is tasked with spying on the growing threat of the First Order.
Tumblr media
Opinion: This show was one I was not expecting anything from at all, but as the show has progressed throughout the first season I have begun to enjoy it more and more. This show, like many on this list, features a very diverse cast (including some aliens, of course). Probably the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that the main character, Kaz, is 20 years old! I feel like that is not something you see with action shows these days, as they usually make the protagonist 16 or 17 years old. I really like the animation style, as I always felt that without the big budget, the Clone Wars style just didn’t look that good in Rebels. Resistance is so... shiny! As for the plot itself, it is sad that most of my favorite aspects of Star Wars are missing, namely the Force, Jedi, and Light Sabers. But since it may eventually tie in more with the sequels, there is hope to see more of that eventually! It’s definitely not at Clone Wars level of good, but I am finding it more enjoyable than Rebels (excluding a few episodes and the season finales). It may never end up being as serious as Rebels, but I am sure it will get darker as time goes on and the stakes get higher.
Young Justice: Outsiders
Tumblr media
Summary: Young Justice: Outsiders is the third season of Young Justice. The backdrop for the season is one that will touch on “all corners of the DC universe,” and this time the team is tasked with stopping a metahuman trafficking ring, as well as dealing with the “intergalactic arms race for control of these super-powered youths.” You can also count on new heroes Arrowette, Spoiler, Thirteen, Halo, and many more joining in the fight.
Tumblr media
(^I can’t recall if this is the exact line from the show but this whole episode is the best)
Opinion: If you loved the first two seasons of Young Justice, it is easy to say that you should give this one a watch. But now that it is on DC’s streaming platform, DC Universe, IT IS DARK. Seriously, this is no longer a show for children. And that’s pretty great. I truly love that the show can now explore darker themes and have some adult jokes from time to time. However, unlike the first two seasons, I feel constantly confused about new characters or things that have happened to returning characters offscreen. Unless you are very knowledgable about DC characters, there is a good chance you will feel this way. So, it is sadly a bit more unwelcoming to those unfamiliar with the comics. I still love the show’s characters and superhero stuff, in general, is always a lot of fun. There’s also LGBT characters apparently already in the show (and some that were LGBT in the comics have appeared, but nothing in-show is confirmed), so hopefully, there is also that to look forward to in the second half of the season when it airs in June.
Big Hero 6 The Series
Tumblr media
Summary: The series continues the adventures of 14-year-old tech genius Hiro and his robot pal Baymax. Joining the pair on their journey is control freak Wasabi, scientist Honey Lemon, fanboy Fred, and no-nonsense Go Go Tomago, whom together form the Big Hero 6 superhero team. As the new prodigy at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology, Hiro faces daunting academic challenges, not to mention the social trials of being the little man on campus. The stakes are also raised for the high-tech heroes when they must protect their city from an array of scientifically enhanced villains.
Tumblr media
Opinion: Another very well made series based off a Disney movie. Once again, this show stays faithful to the source material. The art style is very interesting, and while not my favorite gives the show a very cool feel. Once the main villain is introduced, I was glad to report that he became a major threat very fast. And the season 1 finale was pretty great as well. My biggest issue concerning this series so far is that is still really hasn’t developed the side characters at all, despite them being in almost every episode. These are college students, so their families should still be quite important to them. But besides Fred, we have yet to really learn about them, and with that, a potentially important part of who they are as a person is missing. After a movie and a whole season, these characters should not seem as flat as they are, so I hope we learn more about them too. But we also get flashbacks of Tadashi, so for that alone the show may be worth a watch.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Tumblr media
Summary: Deep in the sewers of New York City, four mutant turtle brothers lurk. Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michaelangelo are in their early teen years, and the brothers go on new and exciting adventures. They tap into their mystic ninja powers to learn to work together as a cohesive unit and become a team of heroes as they navigate the modern world and other hidden realms. The brothers get a whole new look, new weapons, and new powers as they discover the hidden city beneath New York and find time for a slice of their favorite pizza.
Tumblr media
Opinion: Okay I will admit this is one I haven’t actually seen all of yet. But the art style is just so cool I had to include it and will likely update this entry when I catch up. This show may be a worthy successor to the 2012 series, which I know a lot of people loved.
So that’s the end of my list. If I remember any other good shows airing, I may update it. But, if I got you to watch any, let me know and tell me your thoughts!
Shows to Look Foward to: Glitch Techs, Amphibia, Owl House, Twelve Forever, Hazbin Hotel, Villainous, Infinity Train, 101 Dalmatian Street
Shows Omitted due to being super popular already: Steven Universe, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, RWBY, Bojack Horseman, OK KO, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Duck Tales
Join my Cartoon Themed Discord: https://discord.gg/cartoonuv
And give us a follow if you enjoyed the post! We talk about cartoon related stuff a lot! I will probably do a part 2 later in the year when more of the cartoons to look forward to have aired. And I might even add some shows omitted or other shows I may have forgotten!

THE MUN WATCHES. The Resident 02x04 - About Time
Chastain is flooded with concert goers after a stampede at a music festival leaves many in need of doctors. As Conrad and Nic race to help Josh Robinson, a professional adventure guide with a long list of prior injuries, Devon works with a musician who swears he is sober, even though his toxicology report suggests otherwise. Meanwhile, Bell stirs the pot when the hospital's revered orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Kit Voss, demands a better resident, Julian works to get her boss on Bell's good side.
Live-blogging under the cut.
Okay, folks. Here we go. HERE WE GO.
Ready for more power moves and flashbacks....hopefully.  Oooooooh. So this whole lawyer interrogation thinger is related to the Music Fest. Cool. AW. NIC LOOKS SO CUTE.
THAT SOUNDS LIKE A POWER VOLTAGE PROBLEM. Annnnnnd people are being trampled. As you do at a music concert. Oh is a shooting???? IDK. Something is going on. TANC ARE YOU SUING CONRAD? WTF MAN. WHAT HAPPENED TO LIVE AND DEATH BRIGADE PALS. [ The mun does realize that she is confusing shows right now but WHATEVER. MY POINT STILL STANDS, MAN. ]
Aw. Bless Dr. Nolan for sticking up Conrad even though it was a lie. Good man. I really hope that doesn’t end up biting him later. AYE LOOK. Devon’s working on the guy that’s going to play that song that Nic and Conrad dance to later. I AM EXCITE.
Jessica forking sucking up to Bell. Ugh.  YAY. WE ARE MEETING DR. VOSS TONIGHT. I LOVE HER ALREADY. She just gets down to business. ....Okay. A little mean to her new kid. But I do like that she didn’t super shame him....until she said dermatology. I love her saying ‘who’s this douche?’ Hilarious.
TAAAANNNNCCCCCCCC. Ugh. I am so upset that he is going to be suing or some such later because I want to love him and I really like this scene with Nic and Conrad.
I am very curious about this guy with a blood alcohol level that says he hasn’t had a drink. I remember seeing something on a show I think about someone similar that didn’t drink but it caused a blood alcohol level because of something else. I DO NOT REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS AND NOW IT IS GOING TO ANNOY ME.
Vulture scene. Just. Yes.
I LOVE TANC LOOKING AT CONRAD WHEN HE SAYS THAT NIC WAS THE BEST NP FOR HIM. TANC JUST NOT MEETING HIS GAZE.
I really REALLY love Mitchell. I know Conrad doesn’t like his dad and thinks the worst but I really think that Mitchell cares and loves him. // Mina and Raptor’s scene in the OR. I do agree with him. She does need to watch and learn. You are his student. You don’t know everything yet.
OH god. I know this device guy. WHAT WAS HE IN. WHO IS THAT. The boss. WHAT DID I JUST SEE HIM IN. UGH. *imdb* Not sure his name so this isn’t working....I will check back. He looked a bit like Jason Priestly. God I miss Haven. ( Still need to watch Private Eyes. )
LMFAO. I love Raptor deciding to side with Bell and send Okafor to play with the others. I am laughing so hard. Like. Mina I love you. But you are not the best yet. You still have things to learn. I love the music Voss listens to in the OR. I also love her talking to Mina. This is fab. I like it.
OH LOOK. EMTs GETTING PERKS JUST TO GET PEOPLE BROUGHT IN. I remember a similar thing on Chicago Med.
Awwwww. I really do like Julian. I am so upset that it is going to be a problem for Devon and his fiancee but I just...I REALLY like her. ( Kinda spoiler: I saw a casting call today for people in an Indian wedding for an episode.”Brandi is booking a big East Indian Wedding scene next Wednesday Oct. 17th in Stone Mountain. I am looking for East Indian looking Males and Females,…" SIGH. So either Devon realizes he’s being stupid and actually doing something wrong or else this is going to continue up to the wedding and either end that day horribly or continue after it which is also not okay.
LOL. I don’t know why I find it funny whenever Peachtree St. is named. ( If you’ve never been to Atlanta, there are SO MANY streets/drives/places/etc. named Peachtree. SO MANY. LIKE. GOOD GOD. )
Is Tanc having a seizure? Oh nooooooooo.  Okay. So Tanc (Josh...but I’m calling him Tanc just because) is now wheelchair bound. RATHER THAN DEAD. I hate vulture lawyers like this woman. I feel bad for adventure boy but he would have been dead if they’d waited. At least he is alive. I get that his entire life is no changed. Like what he does for income is no longer an option (or at least not fully). I am sad but also glad he isn’t dead........ He was just going on about Conrad being a good doctor right before that happened. SO COMPLICATED.
HA. Backfired on you Raptor. Mina wants to stay with Voss for now. “I’m the first of my own line. An ancestor. Not a descendant.” LOVE IT. YOU GO, MINA.
Annnnd here is how we get the concert. Nice. Let him sing!
“Did you ever think the best decision is HER decision?” BAM.
Very little Irving and Nolan in this episode. But still a great episode.
I love this song/ singer. His voice is so comforting. I love this style. I want more. Time to look him up!
Oh no.......what is happening with that look of Nolan to Bell. I don’t like this. This looks bad.
“You’re a swayer.” I LOVE IT. They are...just so damn sweet.
CONRAD’S FACE WHEN HIS DAD SAID HE WOULD BE WITH HIM EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. CONRAD SAYING THANK YOU. THE FEELS OF THIS. JESUS.
....oh shit. Daddy’s in the elevator with Tanc.
DAMN.
“So next time someone saves your life....say thank you.”
Sum-up of my first watch ( which is written as 9-1-1 comes on which I’ve never actually watched ) :
Good episode. I think I might have missed the Gilmore Girls ref. Possibly. I’ll watch it again tomorrow at least once. A little sad we didn’t get much more of the music fest but I get that it wasn’t the focus. It just felt like it WOULD be from the promos. Love the cases. Do want to know a bit more about Tanc/Josh’s final outcome. Is he going to walk again? Mitchell said he was in physical therapy. Time to research things to try and figure out what might have happened because of the Burr Hole crainiostomy. Not sure how I feel about Mitchell taking over and getting rid of the court case. Like.....yay? But also I know Conrad would not like it if he ever found out. But yay for him not getting ruined by this? FEELS.
I also really like Mina working with another doctor for a bit. Voss looks really fun. I also like that there is a leading female surgeon in a department that Mina can learn from. I know we had the other female doctor in Season 1. I want more, please.
Preview/looking at the next episode on IMDB: ....WAIT. IS THAT. OKAY. In the imdb list they have Bradley ( aka skylight falling, med school leaving, Bradley. HE IS COMING BACK!? ) listed as being in the next episode. Steven Reddington is apparently back for at least one episode.  In the following week is the Halloween episode and supposedly we’ll see Nic’s baby sis again.

December End of the Year Media Madness!
It’s a new month and a new year! And what a crazy month it was what with Tumblr imploding and all. But I’ll still throw this on here just because I’ll be on this site until it literally boots me out. But I do have a twitter now…@metalandmagi where I’m also barely active at all.
Anyway, why make top 10 lists for the entire year when I can just ramble about all the media I consumed this month? There’s only a marginal amount of holiday things on here by my standards!
November media
Movies!
Give me some credit there’s only four Christmas movies on here.
Won’t You Be My Neighbor?: A documentary about Mr. Rogers starting with the birth of the television show to his death. This is the fluffiest most heartwarming thing I could have possibly picked to watch on Christmas, and I encourage everyone, even people who hate documentaries and/or never grew up with Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, to watch it. There’s a lot of important messages about acceptance, dealing with tragedy, and mental health that people can learn from and feel good about. Not to mention how he completely revolutionized children’s television. So yeah, he was awesome.10/10
Spider-man Into the Spider-verse: When a rip between dimensions is opened, a bunch of different spider themed superheroes from every comic fan’s wet dreams all get together to close it. Guys I’m not that big of a Spider-man fan, but dang this movie was a ton of fun. I came for the amazing visual effects and stayed for the amazing...everything else. The music, the performances, and the story were all top notch. Also I now have a new favorite Nick Cage role. If you thought the trailer made the animation look interesting, it was just the tip of the iceberg because it is the most visually interesting movie I’ve seen in the last three years. I strongly suggest any fan of animation...or even any fan of great stories and movies in general go see it even if you’re not that big on Spider-Man. Now I’m demanding a Spider-verse Aunt May movie because I have so many questions! And the post credits scene was the best out of any Marvel movie. Period. 10,000/10
Tumblr media
The Wiz (2015 musical): I should start making a section for musicals or plays instead of just lumping it in with the movies. It’s the Wizard of Oz...but cool. I’ve never seen any iteration of The Wiz and it seems like I’m constantly hearing about it. So I watched the 2015 version of the 1975 Broadway musical that NBC aired. And yeah it’s good. There were some great performances. But I wasn’t very impressed with the songs themselves, and it’s not really the same without a dog along for the ride, but whatever. 7.5/10
Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle: The surprisingly fun reboot/sequel thing of Jumanji where four teenagers get stuck in a video game that follows every “stuck in a video game” trope you can imagine but actually does it well. It’s a sweet, funny romp through the jungle with some great comedic performances. I really don’t have much to say about it except that this movie is better than it has any right to be. 8/10
The Christmas Chronicles: Two children stow away on Kurt Russell’s, I mean Santa’s sleigh and go on a dangerous, balls to the wall adventure throughout Chicago trying to save Christmas or something. After everyone started talking about how crazy this Netflix movie is I had to watch it to verify if it is indeed as wild as they said. And yes...yes it is. It is so laughably ridiculous and questionable that it’s impossible to actually hate. The elves are some unholy mixture of minions and gremlins, one of the children is a literal felon that no one is concerned about, and Kurt Russell is super into the role but has some sort of thing about fat-shaming Santa. I just...have so many questions! But it was certainly a trip, so I’d have to recommend it just so you too can witness the insanity. -10 “savvy, straight-talking St. Nicks”/10
Arthur Christmas: No, it’s not a Christmas special related to the aardvark cartoon! This is the 2011 animated movie that no one remembers exists. Santa’s clumsy but enthusiastic son Arthur must deliver a forgotten present in less than two hours while the rest of his family deals with some Arrested Development style family drama. This is by far the most underrated Christmas movie of all time; even I didn’t realize it was actually good until I watched it for the first time in 2016! The fun road-trip style plot and the entertaining characters were victims of bad marketing. Arthur is hilariously endearing, and there was so much heart and effort put into it that I can find new things to notice every time I watch it. Not to mention the amazingly animated opening spy sequence! And also Mrs. Claus is secretly a total badass and Bryony the elf is the coolest female character in a Christmas movie ever. The movie’s message of old vs new is nothing we haven’t seen before, but I really don’t care because at the heart of it all, it’s about making people happy on Christmas. If you’re like me and just assumed this movie would suck...or didn’t know it exists, please give it a chance. It’s not perfect, but it’s worth seeing. 9/10
Neo Yokio Pink Christmas: Yes, it’s the Christmas special for Neo Yokio. No I cannot accurately describe it with mere words. There’s a rich bachelor gift exchange, demon possession, and pompous French aunts slinging insults at each other. It is unironically my favorite holiday episode of a show ever, and to me it’s the best Christmas special ever made. I thought I was prepared for the absolute bat-shit ride I would go on, but no...I wasn’t even close. At this point I don’t know if it’s written like this on purpose or if some divine twist of fate made the executives believe this is truly brilliant television. Either way, it is a masterpiece in its own right. There’s even a somewhat intriguing plot and a message about gift giving and capitalism under all the crazy! If you haven’t jumped down the rabbit hole yet, I implore you to watch the insanity that is Neo Yokio and follow it up with Pink Christmas because it will truly make your holiday season. 100,000 demon DNA drugs out of 100,000!
Tumblr media
Die Hard: Nothing says Christmas like terrorists taking over a skyscraper and Bruce Willis having to take them all down by himself. Yeah...so I’ve never seen Die Hard before, but this is one of those movies that is so famous that I felt like I’d already absorbed everything important through cultural osmosis. And even though it’s pretty good, I would have liked it better if I didn’t know what was going to happen. My only real complaint is that I think it goes on way too long. More than anything it just made me sad to remember that Alan Rickman is gone. And it bothers me so much that John McClane goes through this building that’s under construction WITHOUT SHOES! 8/10
Books!
The Silver Chair by C.S. Lewis: The 4th/6th book in the Chronicles of Narnia, in which Eustace Scrubb and his classmate Jill Pole go to the underworld to find King Caspian’s long lost son. Even though my children- the Pevensies aren’t in it, I actually think this book is my favorite of the series so far. Jill and Eustace are both sassy enough to play off each other, Puddleglum absolutely hilarious, and the book actually has a clear cut plot! It reads much more like a Greek myth than a children’s fairy tale since there aren’t nearly as many of Lewis’s trademark author interjections, and you know...it’s a literal journey to the underworld. And can I just say that it’s super refreshing to have an author write two main characters WITH ZERO ROMANTIC INTENTIONS! Especially since they’re freaking children! Now I just wish Disney had continued the movies even more! 9/10
Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare: I’m going to do this with only minor spoilers. It’s the final book in The Dark Artifices trilogy. Will Emma and Julian break the parabatai bond? Will the reflection of the modern day American government- I mean the Cohort/ the Clave fuck up the relationships between Shadowhunters and Downworlders forever? You’ll have to suffer like the rest of us to find out! In my opinion, 99% of this book is amazing, but in the last 50 pages there are some...bullshit ways of solving problems. Like everything that went down with the Cohort in Idris. Not to mention we’ve been so invested in the parabatai curse and how Julian and Emma’s bond would go down and...let’s just say the resolution was way too easy. And if you thought Clare’s other finales were jam packed, you ain't seen nothin’ yet. My copy is 880 pages and there was still more stuff that I wanted to happen...like any sort of scene between Dru and Ash...or an ending between Kit and Ty that doesn’t make me want to cry (the Wicked Powers is going to be brutal). But the rest of that 99% is mind-blowing! There’s so much good I can say that it mostly outranks anything I didn’t like...I mean we finally got a Malec wedding and a proper polyamorous relationship for the Angel’s sake! It may be my least favorite of her finales by default but it was still a fun ride! 9/10
TV shows!
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (2018): An elite soldier finds a sword that can transform her into a super buff magical girl who helps princesses take down the forces of evil. It’s a reboot of the 1980s cartoon, and holy crap it’s AMAZING! I have a whole new group of children to adopt, each episode is entertaining in its own way, and there’s so...many...good...ships! And it gives Steven Universe a run for its money with the care that went into making every character a different kind of warrior, which I love because the cast is 99% female. My only real complaint is that I never warmed up to Catra because she wasn’t particularly sympathetic to me from the beginning. But I understand why some people love her. If you love well crafted adventurous character driven cartoons and haven’t watched it yet WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?  10/10
Tumblr media
Nailed It Holiday: Yes, my favorite baking show (and by that I mean the only baking show I watch) has a holiday season out on Netflix, in which newbie bakers are tasked with making incredibly professional desserts with a very short time limit. And whoever makes the best treat gets 10,000 dollars. I’ve talked about this show before in my June media madness, and I don’t know what it is but I’m so addicted to it. 10/10
Brooklyn nine-nine (season 5): Come on we all know the cop sitcom. It’s the best sitcom. Just in general it’s the best. Great characters that subvert expectations, great humor, and a lot of heart. I’ve known that this show is supposed to be amazing for years, but I only started watching it a few months ago. And since I couldn’t find season 5 anywhere...I got a Hulu subscription just to watch it before season 6 comes out. That’s how good this show is. 10/10
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (season 2): Our favorite underdog comedian is back, and she’s slowly gaining popularity and doing...stuff. Like going on tour. And hanging out with Zachary Levi. Yes, this season is great, but my problem with this series is that every character aside from Midge and Susie are the fucking worst, especially the parents. Midge’s parents suck, Joel’s parents suck, Midge and Joel are appropriately neglectful parents for the time period...I could go on. And it’s not even in a funny way; like it’s just disgusting to watch these power dynamics. Not to mention how old the comedic bits for the parents get (how many times can we hear about Joel needing to date or Midge needing to get married?!) Yes, I realize that we’re supposed to be annoyed AND YES I realize that this is a product of culture and how society was, but none of the parents have any redeeming qualities. In episode one, we’re led to believe that Midge’s parents will grow and change through the season and they never do! At least there are moments where Joel can kind of be redeeming and expand on his actual character before he reverts back to being an asshole. Anyway, my thoughts are pretty much the same as the first season. It’s funny and interesting to watch, but it can be ridiculously frustrating when you hate almost all the characters!  8/10
Fuller House (season 4): Yes I do watch the ridiculous Netflix reboot of Full House. And yes, it is absolutely terrible! I really really hate it! But will I stop watching it? Let’s just say you can pry this pile of garbage from my cold dead hands. I don’t know if I’d call this a guilty pleasure or a hate watch type of show... it’s certainly not so bad it’s good territory like Neo Yokio...but Full House was pretty much my entire childhood. And yes, the original show is also not great. I loved it as a kid, and it was my first real exposure to a non-traditional family in live action, but yeah it doesn’t age well. What I’m trying to say is...I have no good reason for watching this.
I don’t mean to say that there’s nothing good about it, especially this season. They really back off on the more cringe-worthy catch phrases, Stephanie being aware of how stupid the writing is and constantly pointing it out is actually funny, their Christmas episode was surprisingly genuine, and they impressed me by actually make two female characters try and work through their difficulties instead of pitting them against each other for laughs. It has its moments, just like the original but definitely not enough to make up for the worst of it. Maybe this generation of children will like it the way lots of my generation used to like Full House...but yeah it’s awful, I hate it so much. -1 missing Tanner child out of 3
Voltron Legendary Defender (season 8) SPOILERS: It’s the final season of Netflix’s Voltron, and boy it was...something. I didn’t want to make this a big rant/defense of the show...but I feel like I have to highlight some things because this fandom is a shithole that refuses to see the good in anything.
There is so much good and so much...not good I can say about it, so here’s a couple things. I know this show didn’t go the direction anyone wanted, but that doesn’t make it bad. In addition to the stunning fight scenes and music, the performances this season were just amazing! I literally wanted to cry every other episode even though sometimes I didn’t know why the fuck something was happening. I don’t know how I feel about Honerva’s plan. I understand her motivation, but I was constantly questioning how we got from point A to point B... so yeah the plot and writing could be...weird at times. Also everyone seemed to have super pointy chins this season...
Spoiler alert: Not many of us wanted Lance and Allura to happen, but I truly believe it wasn’t done in a half assed way. At the very least, I appreciate that they had a genuine bond that developed over so many seasons. BECAUSE YES IT DID! Anyone who says they had no development or that it felt forced never paid attention. I wanted it to stay platonic; I wanted Klance to happen, but...I can’t be too mad at the writers because they at least tried. I still believe that Klance was endgame and the creators were forced to change the outcome of the show later on. AND YES LANCE DID GET A CHARACTER ARC! It may not have been the one we wanted to see, but I’m baffled that people think Lance living with his family, surrounded by people he loves-which is what he wanted all along- is not a happy ending. I just wish his relationship with Keith wasn’t pretty much ignored all season. But I believe Allura is his past that taught him to genuinely love and Keith is his future who will make Lance his “first choice”. And I’m not even gonna try to explain how I feel about Shiro and Allura’s endings because everything I feel is so complicated and layered. There is good and there is bad.
TLDR: This show teaches us that we’re stronger together, and I think the “fandom” completely missed the point because they do nothing but tear others down and refuse to look at things from other perspectives. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO NOT LIKE IT, BUT YOU DON’T HAVE THE RIGHT TO TAKE AWAY OTHER PEOPLE’S ENJOYMENT AND BE A DICK ABOUT IT. It may not have been everything I wanted, but I’m glad I went on this ride. Besides, there are canonically infinite realities so there’s got to be a reality where all your dreams for the show come true. As a season, I’d say it’s a 7.5/10.

Eve’s Diary - Entry #61
Tumblr media
Date: 19th of April, 2027
Dear Diary,
Well, yesterday was one of the last few games of the season! Quidditch, I mean. It was Ravenclaw against Gryffindor. And well… Gryffindor won.
It was all very confusing, because they kept calling times I guess because of fouls and stuff? And also Gryffindor’s captain was grounded for the first ten minutes because of some argument or fight he got into after their last game. Anyways, they still won, 400-150.
I had actually met this Ravenclaw named Murina, she has red hair and says she has a sister in the same year and house with her. When we met, we talked about owls, pranks, candies and such and went to the owlrey to place some orders from Weasley’s Wizarding Wheezes and also Honeydukes. I wanted candy, she wanted… to build a stockpile of pranks, sounds like. She told me about some of her plans, too. They sound fun and exciting to me!
Anyways, I sat with her and Talula at the game, and I cheered for Ravenclaw because of Ruby, and Casey and Everett. It was fun to watch the game with Murina! We talked about all kinds of things, including how scary cars are and how gross snogging sounds. She tried to use petrificus totalus on Octavia, because Octavia was screaming at Nora (Nora commentates the games, and she’s hilarious!) but she didn’t succeed.
I also told her she could come visit my house during summer if she wanted, she said she lives by the beach but loves the forest. I said I preferred the forest too, and that I live in one, so she could come explore it with me if she wanted.
I wanted to try to find Ruby after the game but I couldn’t which made me really sad. I’m hoping I can find him later today, though. It makes me so happy that he has something he’s passionate about at Hogwarts, with how distraught he was at being put in Ravenclaw instead of Slytherin. I wonder why the hat did that… I thought it took your thoughts and wants into consideration.
Anyways! As for what happened this week, well, it’s been a busy one! In History of Magic we talked about the history of magic laws and their relation to beasts and beings. In herbology we dealt with some stinky plants - gurdyroot and mimbulus mimbletonia, but I coped with some fresh mint leaves to block out the smell. Speaking of, it’s been smelling like stink bombs so I think someone’s set them off around the castle. Must’ve been inspired by herbology class!
In dueling, I talked to Aloy about favourite sweets. She offered to make me chocolate chip cookies. And I’ve been practicing that transfiguration spell Orchideous more, and made her a bunch of lilies - tiger lilies, the regular kind, calla lilies, and lily-of-the-valley. She said she didn’t like flowers a whole lot but that lilies were her favourite. I love lilies but I can’t have them around because if Puck ate them, he’d get sick. Anyways! I think that spell is becoming my favourite. It’s so fun to make it rain cherry blossom petals, or to make bouquets of flowers or conjure my favourite flowers any time I want.
In ancient studies, I don’t really remember what we talked about but I do remember that Tom was pestering Aloy. I think he has an actual crush on her, to be honest. He talks smooth and stuff and acts really confident but it seems like being around Aloy makes him extra dumb. It’s kinda cute. Anyways, he was like… on the floor crawling under the desks? Like I said, dumb.
In divinations, Bonnie read my tea leaves and I read her egg. I told her I saw a mother holding a baby, and she told me she saw a cloud. She seemed freaked out by the mother bit, which was funny to me, because I always say she’s like my fairy godmother. She said clouds were likened to creativity, emotions, and anxiety, which sounds about right for me!
Aside from class, some other weird things happened this week. I found a tiny tombstone in the courtyard outside of the astronomy tower, with the name Nugget carved on it. I guess it was someone’s familiar? I also went with Bonnie and Persephone to the gates, and got to say hi to Aisling for a second. And we spotted a giant toad in the forest. I mean, the thing is MASSIVE! I haven’t gone near it out of fear that it’ll swallow me whole! But I am rather curious to approach it...
Also, Talula got a statue of a sasquatch in the mail and tickets to visit America from some long lost relative of her’s, but I didn’t stick around long because she and Aloy got into a weird debate about if Australia is better than America, since Australia is where Aloy is going this summer. All of the older students are going cool places! America, Egypt, Australia… I want to travel! I can’t wait ‘till I’m old enough to just… grab my broom and go wherever I want. Anyways… They started fighting, so I left the conversation.
Oh, and last night, after the game and the after party, there was this birthday party for my mentor, Verity, and her twin Julian. It was a very pink party. I didn’t stay long because the older students were saying a lot of mean stuff to each other, but… I think I do trust Verity. I was uncomfortable around her at first, but she feels honest and said she would never hurt me.
Anyways! I’m gonna go enjoy my Sunday.
Much love, Everly

for the salty ask meme #6 #1 #4 #5 and #12 Just pour all the salt, jennie!
oh my god i just refound this in my ask box so sit tight i’m gonna try & answer real quick~~~
1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get? + 4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?
as always, the answer is l*cas and p*yton like!!! it doesn’t make sense to me AT ALL how people ship this couple and consider them to be like soulmates when l*cas spends half of season one, all of seasons 2 & 3, half of season four, and the majority of season five being blatantly and vocally in love with other women* (mostly brooke but then in season five he’s literally engaged to and planning to marry lindsay and um friendly reminder kids that he’s not the one that calls off the wedding!!! he’s not at the altar going “yeah i love p*yton” he’s literally…devastated when lindsay leaves him and he even tries to win her back but like sure ok i guess he loves p*yton)
also, like…p*yton literally only wants to date him the second he becomes unavailable which isn’t even me being mean it’s just the goddamn truth!! he wants to date her in s1, she isn’t interested, and then he starts to move on (and she finds out brooke has a crush on him let’s sip that fucking tea together) and she decides she wants him!!!. and then she does the same thing in season five when he asks her to marry her and she says no so he?? moves on like anyone who got rejected would do and THAT’S WHEN SHE FLIPS HER SHIT and is like “oh well when you were eighteen-twenty you wrote a book where you promised to love me forever so you can’t get engaged to someone else even though yeah i started dating julian like a week after i said no to you”
and tHEN when they weren’t pissing me off on screen by treating everyone (brooke) like trash they were boring!!! like how tf
ALSO LISTEN the fact that not only does the show do a 180 and be like “oh lol l*cas always loved her even when he literally was repulsed by the mention of still having feelings for her” BUT THEY ALWAYS TRY TO PRETEND LIKE EVERYONE ELSE IN TREE HILL WAS WAITING FOR THEM TO BE TOGETHER AND NO ONE WAS haley – l*cas’ best friend!!!! – is vocally against them being together on like 3 fucking occasions minimum, nathan is 100189001 team brooke penelope davis, karen & keith – lucas’ PARENTS – actually take the time to get to know brooke and end up rooting for her and her happiness both individually and w/ their son and they never bother to do that w/ p*yton, skills literally calls l*cas out on his behavior and calls p*yton out on hers (re: them being shitty af) but then two eps later is all ~lol i was a fan~ when he clearly wasn’t, i could fucking go on but you see my point like…no one wanted them to be together including them
the way they treat brooke formerly gets its own bullet point because oh my god even thinking about it makes my blood boil like 98% of the time i’m fucking i’m pissed
also re: them being ~soulmates~ and they ~were meant to be together from ep 1**~ hilarie burton, who plays p*yton, literally came out in an interview this year and said that they never intended, to her knowledge, as the actress PLAYING P*YTON!!, for l*yton to end up together but that the show switched gears around season four iirc (because sophia bush wasn’t super comfortable filming endless romantic shit with her ex husband who had cheated on her which i support fully)
ALSO i could be wrong but like….i’m pretty sure l*cas kisses brooke in every season he’s a main in (the s6 is a fakeout flash forward in which he lowkey envisions himself marrying brooke and lemme tell you that sure doesn’t seem like he’s super committed to p*yton) and you can’t say the same for him and p*yton (again i might be wrong but i don’t think they kiss in season 2) and they only kiss in season 3 because peyton thinks she’s gonna die and he’s sitting right there
^ the above is arguably the pettiest bullet point on here but i don’t give a FUCK i hate this fictional couple with every atom i possess
FUCK !!!! LISTEN that stupid “you’re always saving me thing” that p*yton says to him and it’s supposed to be romantic like lol he literally didn’t even go into the school for her that day!!! like sure once he’s in there he ends up saving her but that isn’t even what he wanted to do!!! he goes into the school to try and get nathan and to make sure nathan doesn’t get hurt!! when brooke is sobbing telling him she lost track of p*yton when she was getting out of the building l*cas doesn’t get all White Knight and go in to save her he literally was gonna stay with brooke!!! who he loves!!! (there’s an instance similar to this in season one where he only ~saves~ her because he is like…around when brooke is trying to get help for p*yton and probably others too but that’s the BIG one)
ALSO OH MY GOD in season 3 when they make p*yton realize she loves l*ke again they do it in the dumbest way??? she’s literally…with j*ke and she is asleep and mumbles l*kes name and then j*ke is like “u said his name in ur sleep u don’t want to be with me” and dumps her while she’s crying and saying she flat out doesn’t love l*cas (but then she has no one else so she’s like lol what the heck i guess i will love him romantically)
and btw that^ is another instance where it wasn’t p*yton choosing to be with l*cas it was literally someone deciding NOT to be with her…which come to think of it is how they always get together? like?? they never choose to be with one another except in season one after they fucking cheat on brooke like dirtbags and then l*ke dumps brooke to be with p*yton but after that they literally..only pick each other as last resorts because they have no one else. like lmao!!! that is not my idea of grand romance otp it’s literally…sad in the pathetic, embarrassing way
*idr season six that well but i am willing to bet he does it a little bit during this season as well (also from what i remember they literally…stopped writing scenes w/ him and brooke one on one together because they knew the audience would take one look at those scenes and KNOW he still loved her and not p*yton)
also um brooke/lucas parallel nathan/haley so much so it’s just so fake whenever people try and say they weren’t the intended endgame for a while there like…look at the parallels. open your eyes.
anyway y’all i could probably keep going i am the most bitter and angry about them always and there’s literally 200+ things that are just ??? about them it’s Too Easy
oh also fandom jumo but uh piper/l*o from charmed are boring as shit they’re okay in s1-2 and after that i was like hey can we get him off my screen thanks
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
I don’t think “ruined” is the right term, but there are definitely some ships that I saw overhyped imo and then when I watched the show I was…underwhelmed. (I’m referring specifically to Ch*ck/S*rah when I type this because the never ending will they-won’t they was just fucking exhausting and by season 3 – which is where i am currently on hiatus – when they actually got together i just could not bring myself to care) (also she can do better and deserves better and season 3 chuck is like the worst version of him so far but)
6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
not to my knowledge!
12. Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
i was just talking about this the other day with amanda!! (i would normally tag her but she loves l*yton and i respect that so i’m not gonna make her see the seven paragraphs in which i Destroy them)
essentially we talked about how everyone needs to back up off of season three of veronica mars. like, sure, compared to seasons one and two it’s not as good, but even those seasons have stuff i don’t like such as: gross rape plots, needless and unwelcome attempts at love triangles, sidelining of POC characters for ?? reasons (it’s racism y’all, that’s the reason), sidelining of female characters for White Male Development (re: Mac not becoming a regular that season while Dick & Cassidy both did), etc. and all of those reasons are the big reasons why people shit on season three but [dennis reynolds voice] newsflash asshole! it was there the entire goddamn time
^to continue the above, i think season three has SO MANY POSITIVES AS WELL for example: logan canonically tells veronica mars that he loves her. um. that’s Good Shit. also!!!: parker lee is there, weevil working w/ keith mars for a bit, logan and veronica making out on the stairs to fidelity by regina spektor, holy fuck does veronica mars love logan echolls so much, THAT SCENE WHEN LOGAN APOLOGIZES TO VERONICA AGAIN!!, BEATS UP GORY SORKIN BECAUSE HE’S RUDE AF TO VERONICA, SHRUGS WHEN GORY THREATENS HIS LIFE, IMMEDIATELY GOES AND APOLOGIZES TO PIZ, AND THEN VERONICA WATCHES HIM WALK AWAY BEAMING WITH HEARTS IN HER EYES LIKE THAT SCENE IS IN SEASON THREE YOU GUYS IT’S RIGHT THERE and then like!!! there’s quality eps in there that i love with my whole heart~~ wichita linebacker!!! poughkeepsie tramps and thieves!!! postgame mortem!!! charlie don’t surf!!!
in summary: like…yeah parts of it were geuninely awful. just..like….the rest of the seasons. and the movie. which is like.. another Thing
also fandom jump again but uh Rory’s decision to leave Yale in season six was absolutely the right one for her to make and Lorelai is the fucking worst about it. and if Lorelai hadn’t overreacted and ostracized Rory over it Rory would’ve gone back to Yale and lot sooner and that’s what you missed on Glee

Episode 14: Liberation of the Frontier Zone
Tumblr media
Summer/fall 796/487. As the Alliance invasion progresses through Imperial territory, they find themselves suddenly responsible for feeding 50 million people that Reinhard deprived of supplies. The High Council decides appearances are more important than money and sends the extra supplies, right into the waiting missiles of Kircheis’s fleet. With resources now stretched super thin, the Alliance higher-ups authorize soldiers to take what they can from the people they “liberated” to feed the hungry soldiers, leading to riots on many planets. Meanwhile, Yang sits on his ship looking concerned, Reinhard and Kircheis make moon-eyes stare mournfully at each other, and Lazzll takes a nap.
More Heterosexuality?!
Tumblr media
In the last episode Elizabeth discussed how portrayal of real straight romance or attraction is an important reference point for understanding all of the romance in LoGH; and in this episode we find our second Actual Legit Straight Romance™ in Franz and Therese, a couple of throwaway anime-only characters who quite possibly exist solely for the purpose of the comparisons I’m about to make.
Although they’re initially pushed together by Therese’s father (more on that in a minute), Franz and Therese bond over a shared dream of...well, living alone on an uninhabited planet, which is a bit of a depressing dream but whatever, we’re not here to judge. When the occupying force is ordered to steal food from the civilians and they (reasonably enough) fight back, Franz impulsively flings himself in front of an Alliance tank that’s tearing through the fields he helped cultivate on its way to quell the rebellion, and we get a sudden feeling of déjà vu.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The parallels between this scene and the flashback in episode 8 are so overwhelming that I’m tempted to accuse the anime team of lazy writing, except that I know there’s a purpose to it. Franz, seeing destructive abuse of power by his own society, can’t help endangering himself to try to prevent it, and is saved only by Therese physically removing him, after which they lie together on a dark grassy hill and discuss how fed up they are with the world. Of course Franz is no Reinhard, and his proposition here is to run away together to where they don’t have to deal with the problems of society, not to conquer the universe together. But the key is that it is an unambiguously romantic proposition: He talked earlier of living on a deserted planet with a wife and kids, and that’s the life he’s inviting Therese to join him in.
When we talked about the scene in episode 8, we said that the creators were trying to show us two conversations at once: one on the surface about overthrowing the Goldenbaum dynasty; and one, conveyed through posture, expression, and word choices, about the romance brewing between teenaged Reinhard and Kircheis. Because of the homophobia of both the Empire and the real world, all of the tangled layers and coding are necessary for Reinhard and Kircheis—talking in hushed voices of topics they’re afraid could be overheard, expressing themselves through gazes and lingering handholds while ostensibly talking about politics. But such coding isn’t necessary when it’s a straight couple. With the scene between Therese and Franz, the creators are able to show us a vision of what Reinhard and Kircheis’s romance would look like stripped of the need to hide itself, an explicit version of the romantic invitation just under the surface of the earlier scene.
Misogyny and Bad Parents
Tumblr media
Does the cinematography of hiding Therese's dad's eyes as he spies on his daughter through the window suggest that he feels a bit of shame about trying to pimp her out to the occupying military force? I fucking hope so.
Although Therese’s body language and choices toward the end of the episode suggest that she ended up feeling some attraction to Franz herself, her initial interactions with him are entirely at the urging of her father, which gives me a chance to introduce an important running theme of LoGH: Fathers totally suck.
Tumblr media
Franz, to his credit, quickly sees through the way Therese’s father is trying to use her, as does Therese.
It’s impossible to disentangle heteronormativity from misogyny: The assumption that the ultimate goal for all humans is straight sex/romance/marriage/reproduction goes hand in hand with a view of women as either objects of sexual conquest, vessels for producing the next generation, or tools to be used in negotiations between men. In this case, Therese’s father immediately sees a chance to use his daughter(’s body) as currency in his dealings with the occupying Alliance force; and when sure enough the relationship with the soldiers turns hostile, his desperation leads him to admit his schemes perhaps a bit more blatantly than he’d intended to:
Tumblr media
Yeah I don’t have any witty caption here; this guy can just go fuck himself.
Let’s talk for a moment about the verb he actually uses here, あてがっておいた (ategatte-oita). Ategau has two meanings: to affix/attach, and to allocate/bestow upon. The suffix -oita is used to imply an action done in preparation for the future somehow, which is made clear by the rest of his sentence: “I allocated my daughter to you so that you’d be on my side in the future.” This is absolutely one of the most fucked up lines in the show so far, and we’ve already seen some fucked up things.
This is neither the first nor the last example we’ll see of a father treating a daughter (or daughter figure) as an object to be allocated, sold, or used in some way according to his own (heteronormative) plans. Of course the most blatant case is Reinhard’s father literally selling his daughter into sexual slavery; but while Annerose’s story is striking and horrifying, it’s (shockingly) not actually the most problematic parenting we see, since the power dynamics involved meant that he likely had no more actual choice in the matter than Annerose did.
Tumblr media
Still not exactly winning any Father of the Year awards. (From episode 4.)
Perhaps a better parallel to Therese’s father is Admiral Greenhill, who not only had a hand in getting Frederica assigned as Yang’s adjutant, but has already been rather pushy and nosy about their relationship several times.
Tumblr media
I’ve already discussed Yang’s discomfort in this scene in the context of his asexuality and anxiety about being pushed into normative romantic situations; Greenhill’s apparent eagerness to pair his daughter off with the rising star of the Alliance here directly puts pressure on Yang to play a role that doesn’t fit him. (From episode 10.)
Tumblr media
The word Greenhill uses to refer to Frederica here is あれ (are), typically a word meaning 'that (thing).' I don't know all the nuances of using it to refer to a person, but it doesn't sound like the most respectful language to me. (From episode 12.)
In Frederica’s case it seems likely, given the way she talks about meeting Yang on El Facil, that at least some of the push to set her up with Yang comes from her own interest. We’ll soon see examples where that is not the case, including Cazellnu making nonchalant and uncomfortably only-half-joking comments about marrying off his six-year-old daughter to Julian when they’re older.
What Therese’s father, Admiral Greenhill, and Cazellnu have in common here is that they are not Bad Parents in any of the ways that bad parenting is normally marked in fiction (but don’t worry, we’ll see plenty of those too!). And it’s precisely that fact that makes the pressures they impose on their daughters all the more insidious. Annerose goes along with her father’s selling her to the Kaiser because she literally has no choice; Therese initially plays along with her father pressuring her to affix herself to Franz because she loves her father and doesn’t want to displease or disappoint him. The blatant political power structures at play in Annerose’s case aren’t the only way to limit agency.
Stray Tidbits
I could watch this gif of Andrew Fork passing out because anyone dared criticize him all day.
Tumblr media
Other things I could watch all day: Bucock getting exasperated and roasting people. ❤ Bucock.
Tumblr media
This is made all the more hilarious by Yang’s own obsession with his afternoon naps.
Like much of the middle of this season, the main action of this episode (everything involving Franz and his interactions with the villagers on this random planet) is original to the anime; in the novels it’s mentioned in passing that rioting has broken out on several of the occupied planets but no more detail is given.
Our one glimpse of Reinhard and Kircheis in this episode is a heartrending scene that serves to reinforce the Oberstein-centric tension that’s growing between them. The unguarded sadness in Reinhard’s eyes after Kircheis leaves the room is rare and so painful to watch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another theme that’s set up by this episode is the question of what happens when a soldier finds his orders so objectionable that he can’t bring himself to carry them out. When Franz’s commanding officer, on orders from even higher up, sends his troops out to plunder food stores from the villagers, Franz decides he can no longer be part of the military. In his case this decision is personal and ultimately inconsequential to even the outcome of the rioting on that one planet, let alone the war on a larger scale. But the general question of the interplay between a soldier’s personal sense of morality and duty to carry out orders is one that will recur throughout the show.
Tumblr media
This theme was already introduced in episode 12, when several of the military higher-ups, including Yang, had serious reservations about the whole invasion plan.
The narrator helpfully summarizes the thesis statement of this episode at the end in case it wasn’t clear: As Reinhard schemes to weaken the encroaching Alliance forces by taxing their supplies and Alliance politicians fret about their poll numbers and whether withdrawal would make them look silly, it’s the people living on these border planets who get fucked over. We’ve talked about LoGH showing war at all levels of zoom; I like that the anime took this opportunity to depict how quickly a supposedly friendly military occupation turns violent and oppressive as soon as the soldiers are emboldened by official orders and worried about their own physical comfort.
Tumblr media
I could say something here about this being emblematic of the futility of the struggles of the populace against military might, but.....I'm really just including it 'cause it's adorable.
Speaking of the end of the episode, for the second time (the first being episode 6) we get a scene playing through an instrumental version of the ending song. I absolutely love this technique and will rhapsodize about it a ton in the future. The scenes that happen during the opening or closing credits are some of the most powerful and beautiful moments of the show, including this pre-victory toast by the admirals of Reinhard’s fleet. Definitely the artistic highlight of the episode by a mile.

DS9 season 6
[Season index: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 PS]
Here I get angrier and discourse-y
A Time to Stand
The Garak/Bashir scene (finally)... and Bashir looking like this... I feel blessed
when he talks about his “boyish smile” but cannot smile at all. that hit hard
aw Worf/Jadzia!
the Terok Nor dynamics are fascinating. I'm very impressed by Kira's willpower...
jesus fucking christ the Dukat/Kira scene :O D: 😨
why is Bashir doing mental calculations now, he's not Data
Rocks and Shoals
Kira's storyline about being self-conscious about collaborationism is great. In the previous episode we saw her trapped and vulnerable, especially in the viscerally horrifying scene with Dukat, and now we realize along with Kira herself that all of that is having it good.
Sons and Daughters
how did Sisko send a signal that Martok heard but the Jem'Hadar didn't?
Alexander lived on the Enterprise because Worf's parents were incapable of raising him anymore... I guess that was so inconvenient for the DS9 writers they decided to just ignore it instead of at least trying to invent an excuse.
"But the last time you defied him, he left you here to die!" "We talked about that. He admits he overreacted" bwahaha
Oh Alexander, so much secondhand embarrassment...
god, he gave her a dress, eww
oh my god, and he immediately re-gifts it to his own daughter, what a jerk
accepting Worf into the house of Martok involved much less ceremony...
why doesn't this episode address Alexander's age? did the writers assume, again, we didn't watch TNG? they could have said something about his grandparents protesting because he's about ten years old. something about Klingon children growing up very fast, and humans disapproving of child soldiers.
I don't understand how Ziyal can be so naive. Sure, she's kept unaware of the creepy sexual aspect of Dukat's advances (though I was waiting for Kira to snap and finally say "Your father keeps hitting on me, please don't force me to be in the same room with him"), but surely she must see why Kira finds his company uncomfortable and inappropriate! I do like that Ziyal is on his side again. And I enjoy seeing the continuation of Kira's storyline where she has to walk the line between keeping a polite facade and staying true to herself, gets too used to engaging Dukat&co on their own terms and has to take a step back to reassert herself.
Behind the Lines
Wait, if the Romulans have signed a non-aggression pact with the Dominion, why do they still allow Starfleet to use their cloaking device against it?
I've already been concerned about their open discussions of resistance activities, but a Founder's presence on the station makes it even worse! Sure, discuss your plans over a bar table that might well be a changeling...
Odo, for fuck's sake, she's going to learn all about the resistance from you...
"She didn't find out about the resistance, if that's why you're worried" in the same scene: "If she had some hidden motive, I would have sensed it"
Odo!.. >:(
Captain Dax!
Do the Cardassians still have the truth serum? If no, it's a giant plot hole; if yes, things are looking really bad...
Favor the Bold
oh god ewwwwww
why is Leeta making that noise
haha you go Kira
"We are way, way past sorry" good. unforgiving Kira is the best Kira
Odo's longing for his kind works so much better when the Founders are not on screen -- the things they actually say are so boring, one-dimensional and unconvincing... Though I find interesting that Odo's storyline mirrors Kira's in this arc: the female changeling manages to seduce him while Dukat fails to do the same to Kira.
Sacrifice of Angels
"DAMAR: I doubt he was working alone when he tried to sabotage the station. He must've had help. His wife Leeta, Jake Sisko, Major Kira. DUKAT: What are you proposing? DAMAR: That we arrest them. Keep them in custody, at least until the wormhole is reopened." Finally someone wakes up! I was expecting them to do this an episode ago...
"War is such thirsty work. Don't you agree?" "Perhaps if you didn't talk so much, your throat wouldn't get so dry."
Oh look! He's actually pretty shocked by the suggestion to "eradicate [an entire planet's] population"! Even this guy has standards.
"A true victory is to make your enemy see they were wrong to oppose you in the first place. To force them to acknowledge your greatness" classic Dukat. this is his ideology in a nutshell
"Then you kill them?" I'm loving the discussion of the differences between the Cardassian and Dominion approach
"Perhaps the biggest disappointment in my life is that the Bajoran people still refuse to appreciate how lucky they were to have me as their liberator. I protected them in so many ways, cared for them as if they were my own children. But to this day, is there a single statue of me on Bajor?" how is it possible to be so deluded?! fucking incredible
"Link with me, Odo. Embrace the clarity" EMBRACE ETERNITY
Where's the Enterprise during all these battles?
haha Quark & Ziyal make a great team
"The only reason they haven't killed me yet is that I'm part of their victory celebration. Seven o'clock, Dukat makes a speech. Eight thirty, cake and raktajino. Eight forty five, execute the Ferengi"
holy crap, they actually detonated the minefield! I didn't expect that
LITERALLY DEUS EX MACHINA
(I'm beginning to think this is a predestination paradox and the wormhole aliens started taking care of the Bajorans throughout history because Sisko told them to...)
Shit, I thought Dukat was about to snap and kill her, but it's even worse
I didn't expect to feel sympathy for Dukat ever again after those scenes with Kira, but this show played me again. I guess he'll completely lose it now?
Did you really had to remind us that the trainwreck that was Garak/Ziyal existed?
Wait, please tell me this isn't Dukat's last appearance and he's not about to spend the last 1,5 seasons in an asylum?
You are Cordially Invited
Why does this Klingon woman have human teeth?
Ah yes, Jadzia is too proud and independent and should follow her fiance's totally reasonable suggestion to humiliate herself to fit better in his culture. fuck you
Resurrection
am I supposed to recognize this guy?
oh no it's a Mirror episode
I... don't... care...
ugh, her again
I wish I just fast-forwarded this episode
Statistical Probabilities
How did I know from the title that this is a Bashir episode...
lol my dude when Bashir gets his look on his face you know you're fucked
I can't believe Miles pretended to have work just so he could be in the same room as Julian... romance is not dead
Don't know what to think about this episode. There are some good conversations about ableism and intelligence, but that set of stereotypes and assumptions... It's like the final Sherlock episode. And it was implausible when they could read Damar so well in the first place. And the long-term predictions are a million times worse! Do they include variables like "wormhole aliens destroy the entire enemy fleet because Sisko asked nicely"?
Plus I don't like how this season portrays Bashir's enhanced intelligence... I thought he was just made smarter than average, not make mental calculations at the same speed as Data... Where did that come from. Why.
The Magnificent Ferengi
"May I help you, gentlemen?" lmao
"Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to take a nap."
"By the time the Dominion is done with you, all you'll want is a quick death." I love his serene tone haha
This was hilarious :D I really like this show's ventures into black comedy! Also Keevan looks exactly like Orlando Bloom and it cracks me up.
Waltz
Dukat's career has been through a lot of ups and downs over the seasons, and this is the lowest point ever that brings a new dynamic: Dukat so powerless that Sisko can afford to feel pity for him. I'm glad Dukat seems sane.
"A bottle of kanar and an Orion slave girl would be nice" ew
oh, so he has hallucinations. oh well.
"From this day forward, Bajor is dead. All of Bajor" Ouch. Sisko, I think you made it worse... I might have used the same rhetoric in Sisko's place, but damn, his final statement about Dukat's evilness rings pretty hollow since it was him who dragged "kill all Bajorans" out of Dukat's subconsciousness into the light. Like, I understand, when you're injured and trapped with an armed crazy fascist who tries to force you to praise him, you'd want at least the final satisfaction of telling what you think about him to his face, in no way I blame you for it... But if someone is mentally unstable and obsessed with proving to you he's a good person, and you reject it and instead goad him into exposing and accepting his darker motivations -- then don't say he is irredeemably evil? I can see how Sisko's rhetoric could have worked as reverse psychology -- his opponent would have started the speech about killing everyone, heard himself, stopped in horror and realized the error of his ways -- but Dukat didn't have enough self-awareness for that even in better times, and certainly not now. This was just giving your enemy ideas. Nice job breaking it, hero! When Dukat sabotaged his own redemption arc by joining the Dominion, it was beautiful, but when someone else does it to him... Idk, I usually like the Batman/Joker dynamic where the bad guy is obsessed with the protagonist and defines himself in opposition to him, but I'm not sure how well it works here... On the other hand, it has been a part of Dukat's character that he has an almost fourth wall breaking awareness of his role in the story as a likeable complex antagonist, so there is some poetic sense that he turns to straight-up villainy when someone convinces him that is the better role for him and he decides to live up to it.
The sad thing is, except that strange last scene, I was absolutely with Sisko the entire episode. And contrary to his words at the end, I found it an excellent example of grey morality. I've talked about it a couple of seasons ago -- allowing the antagonist to plead his case and then explaining why he's still wrong -- and this episode dedicates a lot of time to this. We've basically already heard Dukat's self-justifications, but learning what exactly was his role during the occupation and what he has done differently that made him think he was so much better than the other Cardassians -- that's something I've wanted since the beginning of the show. Cardassians are my favourite part of the show because of their messed up ideology, and Dukat is the one character who keeps talking about it, which is why he's so interesting for me. (Initially, heavy focus on ideology was what I expected from Garak and his character arc, which is one of the reasons I was disappointed in them.) It's great how he gives a lengthy speech that does make him sound pretty reasonable and sympathetic for a minute, and then with a single line Sisko breaks the spell and makes him reveal the ugly racism under it all, the reason why Dukat is deeply wrong despite any good intentions: "From the moment we arrived on Bajor, it was clear that we were the superior race. But they couldn't accept that. They wanted to be treated as equals when they most certainly were not". But, honestly, this isn't exactly news. Dukat's always been a racist, a victim-blamer, an egomaniac, an opportunist, and this episode doesn't even touch the issue of Bajoran women. So in this episode, he says pretty much the same things as when he played a "morally grey" role, but now that suddenly means he's "not morally grey"? Because of some bat-swinging during a psychotic episode, and a final villainous speech based on an idea fed to him by Sisko? He's responsible for a genocide, that's bad enough -- you don't need to start blaming him for things he's not fully responsible for! One of my favourite things about Dukat is that his crimes mostly happened offscreen, before the events of the show, so his presence on screen was sort of a test of integrity for both other character and viewers -- can you still tell right from wrong without a visceral reaction to violence and suffering happening right now before your very eyes? The characters have always passed that test; but now, regrettably, the writers decided that the viewers cannot. At the beginning of the episode he's a war criminal half-mad from loss, and Sisko feels sorry for him; at the end of the episode he's a war criminal completely mad from loss, and Sisko thinks he's evil. I guess, this might be interpreted just as Sisko's version of Kira's stories at the beginning of the season, where she briefly forgets how much she hates Dukat, and by the end of the episode he gives her a reason to hate him even more. I guess it comes down to the first line in this liveblog that I wrote during the first minutes of the episode: when the enemy is neutralised, we can afford to feel sympathy for them, but as soon as they start posing real danger, compassion goes out of the window and our first priority is to stop them. Except, of course, that works for any enemy, they don't have to be "truly evil"... So my complaint about that line still stands. Besides, it really deflated the drama; five minutes ago we had Dukat delivering his mad king's speech with the Shakespearean levels of gravitas, and now Sisko almost looks in the camera and summarizes his experience with the dramatic equivalent of "That's as many of four tens. And that's terrible."
Alright, let's try to stop raging about the dumb final scene and say something about the actual episode... I wish this was a real courtroom episode without the madness -- but the imaginary Weyoun, Damar and Kira's arguments were very well done. Their opinions sounded authentic while the delivery was distorted by Dukat's point of view. Just look at the imaginary Kira draping herself sensually over everything... :D
Dukat has a special talent for making me feel terribly guilty. You know the parts from his final monologue about Bajoran "superstitions", how they "clustered in their temples and prayed for deliverance"? Well, as I dislike the episodes about Bajoran religion I kinda see where he's coming from, and now I feel like a Nazi...
Idk how I'd fix this episode.
I'd like to throw out the mental illness altogether but then half of the episode stops working.
If I couldn't invent a completely different ending, I'd throw out the final scene, letting Dukat's actions speak for themselves.
Or there would be a final scene, but similar in tone to "The Ship", where Sisko'd be like "Whoops..." and also traumatised by the experience.
Or, if it were absolutely necessary to state the moral of the story and remind the viewers that Dukat is Bad(tm), maybe he'd say something like "Yes, I gave him the idea, but everyone is responsible for his own actions, and blaming everyone but himself is what he wants and does, so I'm not going to".
Maybe I'd end the episode with Sisko killing Dukat and the final scene being like "Generally I value life but you know what? No regrets". (Of course the best outcome would be if Kira killed Dukat but I've already been informed it won't happen.)
tl;dr: There are some impressive scenes, lines and acting, but the episode is deeply compromised by its general intent, mental illness excuse and the final scene.
Who Mourns for Morn
Not the best Quark episode... Gags about Morn don't work for me because the prosthetic is so bulky the actor can barely move in it, let alone make facial expressions, and it's impossible to believe that guy becomes talkative, charming and athletic as soon as the cameras stop pointing at him.
Far Beyond the Stars
Finally, a classic episode that lives up to its reputation -- and an AU that's good enough that it does not require an explanation. (The Prophets... made an elaborate simulation of 20th century Earth... to inspire Sisko to fight on? Okay.) I feel that somehow this is the best story about Sisko as the Emissary so far, even though -- or maybe because -- it was only discussed indirectly. It works as a history episode, as an AU episode, as an issue episode, as a meta episode about Star Trek itself...
I'm a bit confused by not-Bashir's role as one of the white writers who just don't get it -- just another reminder of how little I understand the concept of race... I've never thought of him as white -- would he be, by 1950's standards? I get that the episode is specifically about antiblackness, but they did mention sexism against not-Kira, so why not him?
I tried hard and failed to recognize the artist -- turns out, it was Martok! I'd never guess...
I'm darkly amused at Odo as conservative, contemptible half-antagonist again (similar to the roles he played during both occupations and in Mirror universe). His conflict with not-Quark is still recognizable, not just superficially imitated without any of the substance (remember when Quark called Odo a fascist?).
Similarly, I almost laughed when Dukat and Weyoun showed up as racist cops -- just in case you somehow still aren't drawing parallels to the current events, the show does it for you... How sad it is though: a show filmed in 1990s about the 24th century remembering the 1950s looks like an immediate reaction to the news reports of today...
It was a pleasure to see Kasidy in both worlds! I've missed her. She's such a likeable person, and has effortless chemistry with Sisko (and Benny).
Joseph was great, a beautiful variation on his role in Homefront/Paradise Lost.
I was impressed to learn afterwards that the writers all had real prototypes. So they’re based on a group of real people and group of fictional character at the same time, and both sets of influences are recognizable. That’s incredible.
One Little Ship
"I love it. Let's go"
more enjoyable than I expected
Honor Among Thieves
ooh nice scenery
this is the kind of story I find hard to watch both because it's painful to wait for something terrible to happen, and because it's not very captivating
Change of Heart
ah yes, Bashir learned all the rules from half a second glance *eyeroll*
this is season freaking 6!!! you told us two seasons ago that Julian's crush on Jadzia is dead! what the fuck?
moral of the story: don't send married couples on dangerous missions toge -- wait, as I was typing, Sisko said the exact same thing lol
why are all Jadzia/Worf episodes so bad. why are all Jadzia episodes so bad. is this a conspiracy?! why is her every episode about almost dying? you know, at this point I'm kinda looking forward to it happening for real.
Wrongs Darker than Death or Night
What, you can easily travel back in time? Just like that?
I didn't expect this show to actually use the term "comfort women"!
Kira looks like she needs a bucket to vomit in... I may need one too...
*Dukat kisses Meru* *mine and Kira's vomiting intensifies*
let me guess, the episode will end with Kira realizing that "my mother deserves death for having Stockholm syndrome" was a bit too harsh
"Kira and collaborationism" is one of my favourite themes in this show istg
"Believe me, there's a part of me that wishes that I hadn't. But the fact is, no matter what she did, she was still my mother" I actually wanted to Kira to go through with the assassination! But then it'd create a different timeline and the episode wasn't about that.
ok, I spoiled myself about Dukat/Meru so it lost the shock value, and I can see that it's incredibly contrived, but on the other hand it somehow managed to make Dukat's harassment towards Kira even more gross and creepy which is impressive
I have so many technical questions though. If Bajor has a freaking time machine why is no one using it in the war? Why is the Dominion not trying to get its hands on it? Why does it work differently than in "Tribbles"? Is it a closed time loop or alternate timeline? -- at the start of the episode, have Meru and Dukat met the time-travelling Kira or not? Dukat said he was the Prefect only for ten years but in this episode young Nerys looks about four and she certainly isn't a teenager at the end of the occupation -- how does all of that add up? Wait, if Ziyal was 13 by the end of the occupation, it would make more sense if Dukat was in charge for about 20 years and, roughly speaking, spent seven of them with Meru (as said in this episode) and thirteen with Naprem, and the line in "Waltz" is a continuity error -- but putting it this way sounds more wholesome than he deserves, since from the words of that one dude in this episode and a scene in "Things Past" I got the impression that those unfortunate Bajoran women passed through his quarters at a much faster rate...
btw remember when I was hoping that Dukat's mentions of his children to Sisko were intentional manipulation? now I'm pretty sure they were.
wow, TvTropes: "The episode itself... which is rather a letdown. With such a name, you'd expect some sort of horrible atrocity to be happening" -- you mean, MASS SEX SLAVERY, long-term psychological manipulation, prostituting oneself to a tyrant and learning to like it, and planning the murder of one's own mother -- these things are not horrible enough??? who tf wrote that entry
(btw, kudos to this episode for handling these heavy topics without going the exploitative shock value route like "Violations" that actually showed rape scenes on screen.)
also someone mentioned that Terok Nor is very brightly lit and now I can't get it out of my mind... why, set designers, why...
Something I liked: in the opening scene Dukat says: "Captain Sisko gave me the clarity to see beyond the lies, the self-deceptions that were controlling my life. He helped me see to the truth about myself. And now I'm going to do the same for you." And that's what happens indeed, even if not exactly in the way he might have intended. Sisko made him acknowledge the violence under the pretty words and justifications, and now we get to see the ugly true face of what Dukat calls -- and genuinely believes to be -- "love".
Inquisition
"Why would the Dominion leave your runabout orbiting the camp" well I'm glad the writers are aware of their plotholes... :D
"Captain, if Doctor Bashir had been involved in one or two questionable incidents, I could understand how you might be able to dismiss it, but the sheer number of incidents form a pattern of behaviour that can't be ignored" you could say that about literally any of the main characters lmao... every episode of any Star Trek series contains a questionable incident plot twist?? let me guess, it's set up by Sloan to make him confess
Second Skin 2
"And because you didn't want billions of Federation citizens to lose their lives needlessly, you agreed to provide us with information that would help us end this war quickly" heh, nice use of Statistical Probabilities
oh wow, Weyoun and his ship are actually real! I didn't expect that
the DS9 crew are all acting so strange, I guess they're part of the simulation too
"I admit it takes exceptional people to do what we do. People who can sublimate their own ambitions to the best interests of the Federation" heh, is this the final test?
wait, they kidnapped him THAT early? Bashir really should stop going to medical conferences...
this episode was pretty predictable after so many similar stories, but I do like these types of episodes, and this one utilised well the long-running themes of Bashir and secret service, and Bashir's idealism. And he got to join the club with Data, Riker, Picard, Dax, O'Brien, Worf -- am I forgetting anyone? Oh, right, Wesley -- that was one of my favourite episodes, actually... Oh, and I just rewatched the scene is the beginning where Bashir wakes up tired in the simulation for the first time, and remembered that episode of TNG where Riker kept losing sleep because aliens kidnapped him every night.
In the Pale Moonlight
Garak saves the day! I'm glad to see him live up to his reputation.
Actually, I don't think the plan was THAT immoral. Especially how it turned out in the end. The worst part was the danger to the Federation in case the forgery was discovered, but Garak took care of that. So ultimately, my only regret would be the use of that biomimetic gel in the clearly wrong hands. Call me cynical, but I fully agree with Garak that the price they paid was very small. Sure, for a Starfleet officer all of that must feel very dishonorable, but I'm sure the secret services of all major powers in the galaxy pull this kind of crap and worse on a fairly regular basis.* Hell, I think what Sisko himself did to apprehend Eddington was worse by my standards! And how is bribing Quark worse than blackmailing him, which Sisko has been doing literally since the pilot?! I think his guilt would have worked better for me if the plan failed and all of that were for nothing.
* Actually, why WAS Sisko the one doing this? And not someone like the just-introduced Section 31?
On a less serious note, I love that Sisko isn't satisfied with the recording until someone talks shit about Dukat :D then he's like "mmm perfect"
I feel obligated to mention the quality of writing and directing! And the wonderful ambiguity of the final "I can live with it" -- I love things like this.
His Way
let me get this straight, Julian got rejected three times by the same woman but she started dating him after he asked a hologram for advice?? wtf. Miles is surprised by the latter part but I'm more concerned about "Bashir is repeatedly rejected and refuses to stop pursuing a woman" (what is this, season 1???! between that and the mention of his crush on Dax several episodes ago, certainly feels like that, and not in a good way) and also about "Bashir dates a woman offscreen because the relationship is so shallow it's apparently not worth showing but we need to remind the viewers he's Straight"
"Is that the best you can do?" "I'd like to see someone do better." "So would I."
"You're not exactly the most lovable person in the galaxy. You're not even the most lovable person in this sector, or on the station. Or even in this room"
how many of those dumbass songs must I endure?
I'm really bored...
ughhh this is embarrassing
and THIS is creepy
(at least Odo is better than Barclay and backs off...)
he can just go to any other holosuite and interrupt whatever people are doing in there? D:
oh god, he can also use the station's com line?! SOMEONE DELETE THIS PROGRAM IT'S GETTING REALLY SCARY
kill me. or kill this episode with fire
ughhhh it's finally over bye. the scene with Quark was very good, but the rest... how come Kira and Odo by themselves are probably the most interesting characters but their romance is this utter dreck?
The Reckoning
why doesn't the universal translator work here?
how did the wormhole animals get here, anyway?
(I’m keeping this typo lmao)
for once, Winn is absolutely right!!
did he actually break it?.. this is not a dream?.. Winn won't be pleased
it's episodes like this when I miss TNG, and Picard's total refusal to treat Q like a god
this is getting stupider and stupider...
take a shot every time Sisko claims to know something
you know your story is bad when Winn is the most, and probably only sympathetic character in it (and Kira spends the entire final scene talking how bad Winn is? what?) Winn is being rational and ends up saving lives while Sisko keeps justifying his shitty actions with weak babbling about how "The Prophets want this, they work in mysterious ways" -- have they switched bodies while I wasn't looking?!
Valiant
Jake has a nice stylish outfit
That's strange... Why didn't they return to the Federation space after the war began? Will that be the point of the episode -- that they continued the mission on their own out of sheer hubris?
so this poor girl and the others spend months trapped on a tiny ship inside enemy territory because that guy wants to feel adult and important and likes to play captain?
so, they finally found one specific battleship they had been looking for for 8 months? and it happened the next day after Jake and Nog come on board? is that just because Nog adjusted the warp drive?
dude! your job was to gather info! if that battleship kills you, you fail!
The First Duty 2
...but a lot more bloody D:
this episode was better than I expected
Profit and Lace
aaaalright, here we go, let's see if this really is the Worst Episode Ever
why is Ishka wearing clothes that accentuate her breasts? the clothes in the previous episodes were so baggy I assumed that Ferengi women don't have boobs
"...brilliant Ferengi female. Do you know any?" I suppose Pel wouldn't be able to get here fast enough?
okay, Quark reluctantly doing his best to advocate for female rights is actually pretty awesome
are u telling me all Quark needed to be a better person was a little estrogen?
I actually... didn't find this bad for a Ferengi episode? and it was more interesting to watch than some other episodes in this season -- I was genuinely unsure what would happen and was rooting for everything to turn out well!
Of course I'd prefer if Ishka made the case for Ferengi feminism herself -- but, at least, the narrative is on its side this time, unlike at least one previous episode. And this time she has more agency than in her previous appearances (Zek's lover/hidden mastermind and damsel in distress) -- she's using her position of power to implement a whole new progressive law, and it even seems like she made it to Zek's side for that purpose and domestic bliss was a nice side effect.
Quark as a woman is an objectively transphobic gag, of course (and yes I know that it’s my privilege that allows me not to be viscerally upset by it enough to immediately ruin the episode forever). But I didn't actually find it as nasty as the same joke in "Facets", where the narrative and other characters used it to made fun of him, and the shot of his head on Kira's body in "Meridian"; here it's for greater good, and being in a woman's shoes (literally) gives him some perspective, plus nobody seems to think sex reassignment surgery is a big deal. Other characters criticise Quark’s performance of femininity in the same tone as Worf criticised others’ performance of Klingon-ness. Like, I see that this is fundamentally Bad, but I was preparing myself to be outraged much more so it doesn’t feel that bad.
And it's gross that Quark sexually exploits his workers and the narrative doesn't punish him, but that happened before in season 1...
Unlike, say, The Reckoning, it doesn't affect the show's overall plot or lore in a negative way -- I'd even say it's the opposite because of the big win for women's rights on Ferenginar. (It shows a frustrating lack of progress in Quark's character arc, but a lot of episodes share this problem...) So, even though this episode is unfunny and largely offensive, I don't feel it's exceptionally terrible -- just another example of the problems this show has always had. I have more problems with stories that break the entire show, than isolated episodes like this which can be easily skipped and ignored.
Time's Orphan
what about the Orb of Time, wouldn't it help?
Keiko, that's a terrible decision
I guess the episode will end with both Worf and the O'Briens realizing this parenting problem is too difficult for them, and they'll do what they should have done from the start and re-rescue Molly
No, Miles, your plan is horrible. If it works I'll never forgive this episode.
I'm glad it ended well. But feral!Molly was obviously a lost cause from the beginning...
The Sound of Her Voice
Odo, are you being shitty on purpose?
I was worried when Bashir didn't want to talk at the beginning, but this is almost scary!
I suspected something like this...
Julian no...
“I really care about all of you, even if sometimes it would appear that I care more about my work” says the guy who spent two seasons running after everybody like “PLEASE BE MY FRIEND!!!11!”
This entire thing looks like Julian and Miles are about to make a public proposal to each other...
"Someday we're going to wake up and we're going to find that someone is missing from this circle" *looks directly at Jadzia*
Tears of the Prophets
*sigh* Okay, I'm emotionally prepared, here we go
*sees Jadzia on screen* no I'm not prepared
ughh why are Bashir and Quark being so gross
where has he been all this time?
"I don't hold you responsible for Ziyal's death. You may have fired the phaser, but it was Benjamin Sisko who forced your hand" ????? dude. this is a stretch even by your standards.
"You've gone from being a self important egotist to a self deluded madman" Weyoun is not wrong
(but you know acknowledging within the story that your writing is shitty doesn’t fix the problem)
Klingons and Romulans!
why must I listen to this stupid song and look at Bashir and Quark being shitty and badly written
Oh great, the wormhole aliens can somehow contact him whenever and wherever they want, no orbs or travels to the wormhole necessary. WTF?
I like how Weyoun and Damar roll their eyes at Dukat's nonsense. same
"I've immersed myself in the study of the Bajoran ancient texts, and I've come to realize that the wormhole is much more than the gateway to the Gamma Quadrant. It's the Temple of the Prophets" o rly??? truly an astonishing discovery
congrats on finally getting the Renegade eyes, Dukat
what is Garak doing here?
ugh.
Dukat went from the embodiment of the best storyline on the show to the embodiment of the worst storyline on the show
At least Weyoun and Damar keep reacting to his every word as "That's nonsense" so at least someone inside the story doesn't like this plot as well. I think Dukat has passed them the torch of being the fourth wall breaking meta character...
...but, you know, if the wormhole would really close forever I'd be glad. of course they'll find a way to reconnect with their "Prophets" somehow
I interrupt the ugly crying to ask: how the hell would Sisko's presence on the station have saved Jadzia's life?!
"for the first time in my life I've failed in my duty as a Starfleet officer" uh, how?!
this is the worst season finale in DS9
Ohhh man... The season started so strong I was overjoyed. I've always wanted more stories set on Terok Nor during the occupation, and didn't expect the show to deliver in this way! The change of status quo was exciting -- it really felt like Shit Got Real and a serious war was on and things would not be the same again! And Kira's little storyline about normalization of oppression and fighting it, first of all inside one's own heart, was great. But then it just went downhill...
Odo's betrayal made me lose all sympathy and trust towards him forever, and even without that, his character arc was greatly weakened by the presence of the Female Changeling, who is the worst combination of uninteresting and unlikeable. When the Founders are somewhere out there, Odo's longing for them is poignant, but when you see them on screen being bland and annoying, the magic just evaporates.
An underused female character fridged to make a male character's arc less interesting: he loses his Morality Chain, his mind, and complexity as an antagonist. It's just so lazy. His main redeeming quality is the love for his daughter, and we're tired of writing bad people who still have some sympathetic motivations, that's too difficult, so let's take the object of that love away from him to make him Purely Evil(tm). And since the plot requires this rationalist character to do something OOC in the finale, we need to make him crazy or it couldn't happen. He's evil because of mental illness, he's evil because he gets himself possessed by a demon, he's evil because he has red eyes -- that leaves the viewer with the impression that his previous crimes weren't bad enough, that the writers think overseeing colonisation/genocide for years is tolerable but five minutes of hate speech & one minute of glowing red -- that's the real moral event horizon! Mental illness made him evil, huh? Take that trope and throw it in the trash along with Intendant Kira's Depraved Bisexual trope. Hey, remember when this show was about dealing with the effects of war and oppression, and Dukat embodied the different ways that oppression manifests? well now he's a comicbook villain with glowing satan eyes who shoots death rays
The wormhole aliens are now suddenly Good Gods hijacking bodies and using them for Voldemort-Harry ray battles
The best-forgotten stupid tropes about hyper-intelligence are dragged from TNG and pasted onto Julian
The writers pulled out of their asses Bashir and Quark's unrequited love for Jadzia?? Bashir's crush was cute in season 1, but he got over it long ago, and Quark has always been just friends with her. Bashir had such a nice friendship with her, and now he's wishing that her marriage would fail so he'd get a shot, even though she was never interested in him in the first place? Fucking disgusting. Way to compromise his character.
And, of course, as the final insult, they fucking killed Jadzia for nothing.
So, let me count: Jadzia literally dead. Dukat's character almost completely assassinated, Bashir’s comes pretty close. Odo's character weakened. Lore and plot of the entire series fucked up. God. I have no words anymore. How do you ruin something so quickly?!

Favourite Episodes of Season 5 of Charmed
1. A Witch’s Tail
I love mermaids which is why I love this episode! On my rewatch I noticed how they dealt with Piper’s anxiety which I thought was really interesting. It was a little sudden for her to have it but it did make perfect sense. She lost her mother so young and doesn’t want that to happen to her child. We haven’t seen how her mother’s death affected her. They always focused on Prue. So it was interesting to see how Patty’s death affected her. I liked that they had to her have panic attacks, freeze up and hide as though are all very relatable. Also having the Fearless spell as an easy way out of dealing with things - which I think we can all relate to and wish we could do!
That final scene though when she puts the picture of her and Patty in the new baby book and Patty writes ‘Grandma and Mommy’ will forever make me cry!
2. Happily Ever After
Honestly, any episode that has Jennifer Rhodes in it, I am going to love it (same with Finola Hughes). Having Paige and Grams meet for the first time was everything! There was a bit of resistance at the beginning from Paige but they got to bond. Paige calling her Grams at the end was adorable!
3. Siren’s Song
This one always makes me laugh because of Piper’s powers malfunctioning and then the baby switching Piper and Leo’s powers. Holly and Brian play off one another so well.
Also, the spell that Leo wrote was fucking hilarious! ‘We harken ye....”
4. The Eyes Have It
I remember watching this episode and thinking it was so gruesome with the eyes being gouged out. It was really disturbing when I was a kid!!! I like the episodes where they deal with other witches/Wicca. It is always cool!
5. Sympathy for the Demon
BARBAS!!!! Honestly, he is one of my favourite demons and this is one of my favourite episodes! We had never seen him play out Piper and Paige’s fear before so it was cool to see that. I could really relate to Piper’s thing of being happy and then something bad happens immediately afterwards. I feel that is something I deal with. That scene with Phoebe holding Paige’s body, sobbing about how she thinks she is evil. Holly and Alyssa have such good chemistry and bond that they really sell those emotional scenes well.
The whole Paige not being as good as Prue, I liked as well. Because I think it has been something Paige has felt since the beginning. The girls talk about Prue in such high regard (which they should) but I think Paige felt she had to reach that level. But she is just as good as Prue and there shouldn’t really be a comparison between the two.
6. A Witch In Time
Omg I remember watching this one when I got the DVDs. My sister only recorded the first 6 episodes of season 5 and that was it. I remember being so shocked when the demon vanquished Phoebe and Paige. It is also the first time the demon gets a hold of the Book of Shadows which is pretty fucking major.
Holly once again killing it with her acting after Phoebe and Paige’s death. SHE IS JUST A REALLY GOOD ACTRESS AND SHE KILLS ME WHEN SHE IS CRYING!
7. Centennial Charmed
100 episodes of Charmed and also marked the final episode of Cole Turner. Those last few episodes of Cole were the most interesting his slow descent into madness was amazing - Julian killed it. I liked that his whole motive for turning on the girls was so they could kill him. But then when he realised not even they could do that and Phoebe won’t take him back - he had to go back to when everything was good between him and Phoebe.
I liked seeing what would have happened if Paige didn’t bring the sisters back together. Piper full of revenge and rage trying to find Shax to kill him for Prue’s death and Phoebe becoming cold and in a loveless marriage. But Paige ultimately bringing them back together to defeat Cole.
I am not Cole’s hugest fan but I will say it was very sad to see him go. He is such an important part of their story, particularly Phoebe’s. But I am pleased they bought back Julian for the 150th episode.
8. The Day Magic Died
This episode had the comical moments of the sisters and Leo trying to deal with no magic and also had so much heart as well. I loved seeing them try and deal with having no magic and try to keep Piper calm. It had the great sister moment between Phoebe and Piper with Victor’s new wife talking about their sex life and Piper not wanting to be left alone with them lol!
That birth scene will always make me cry. The emotion, particularly between Alyssa and Holly, felt so real. Like Alyssa seemed to forget that they were acting and was completely caught up in the moment. Leo’s reaction to the fact they were having a boy was so fucking adorable. The fact Victor was their as well was really sweet. He was able to be there to support his daughter (save her life as well) and watch his grandson be born.
This isn’t in this episode but I have always loved that they named Wyatt Matthew after Paige and Leo. Particularly Paige because it made her feel more part of the family.
Also, the fact they were going to name the baby after Prue if she was girl broke my heart.
9. Cat House
Paige being able to see moments of the sisters before she knew them was awesome. This is one of those episodes that I wish they actually had used scenes that Prue was involved. It would have been cool for Paige to actually meet Prue in some way or another.
AND GETTING ALL THOSE PIPER AND LEO FLASHBACKS WAS ADORABLE.
Getting the backstory of Kit was also really cool.
10. Sense and Sense Ability
Honestly the funniest episode of the whole series. “PMS Monkey” will forever be one of my favourite lines of Phoebe’s. Phoebe and Paige’s interactions were really funny.
Having them lose one of their senses was a really cool idea. I know Brian had some hand in this episode but I don’t know how much - possibly just the idea. It said that he wrote it but on further investigation, he stated that the edited version from Brad was different from what he wrote. Which makes me sad coz I would have loved to see what Brian had come up with.
11. Oh My Goddess
FINALLY, MY BOY CHRIS HAS COME TO THE SERIES!!! My first TV crush and he is still so hot. Is next season going to be me just being in love with Chris? Yes it is!
This is a heartbreaking episode to be a Leo and Piper shipper. Leo becoming an Elder and having to leave Piper and his family was so sad. Holly was amazing at portraying that anger and heartache.
Also, can we just talk about the fact that Leo fucking saved the Elders from the Titan’s and they still put him through so much fucking shit in the show? THEY LITERALLY WOULDN’T EXIST IF IT WASNT FOR LEO SACRIFICING EVERYTHING FOR THEM.
I HATE THE ELDERS SO MUCH!
