Monsters Lost in Translation - a poem by l.a. gonzalez
As a kid, I’d watch old black and white Japanese monster movies
Not understanding why their unnatural American voices
Never quite synched with what their mouths were truly saying
The words always came out much faster than their mouths were able to form
As an adult, I understand now
The universal truth
Of how danger
Of how tragedy
Of how destruction
Always moves towards us at breakneck speed
Often faster than our ability to verbalize before it arrives
