#JEDI LAN WANGJI AND SITH LORD WEI WUXIAN
rarepears · 2 years
Note
"What's the silliest way to make these fandom so collide?" Oh wait I got it - that eldritch 12th peak lord ran away to earth to become a cultivator because they were dating Obi Wan and got really upset when they broke up... And they broke up because Obi Wan kissed Jinwoo while undercover.... In Westeros
And in the background, Liu Qingge is trying to find Shen Jiu's real biological parents, Luo Binghe is swanning around in the Endless Abyss after retrieving Xin Mo the sword that was once known as the Dark Saber (and was also once Shen Jiu's ex-boyfriend), the Jedi Order is trying to figure out whether Jinwoo is the physical manifestation of the Force while Jinwoo is delivering presents to all of Obi Wan's children yellow minion troopers like he's Santa Claus (except the new couple discovers all the clone have been stolen by Hibari).
Gaara is taking over Tatooine, Orochimaru has taken over Sheev's body, a new Sith (named Wei Wuxian) has been spotted by the legendary Jedi Groot, and Yue Qingyuan still remains locked up in a little black house by Shen Jiu.

Sending a follower rec for WIP week! It's a star wars au where the author writes each chapter as if it's the next installment in a saga. It's got a lot of angst and worldbuilding and if you like star wars or sci-fi in general I would highly recommend it!
Duel of the Twins
by Theladyofravenclaw
T, WIP, 71k, Wangxian
Summary: A long time ago in a galaxy far far away... After growing up together at the Jedi temple on Coruscant Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng venture out on their own for the adventure of a lifetime. However, when an unknown threat and raging war looms overhead, the paths that they must take to protect those that they love will change the course of the galaxy forever. A tale of two brothers, bound by fate, to discover who they are and what destiny awaits. (or the "Wei Wuxian as a sith lord" fic that I've been craving for a while.)
@theladyofravenclaw

Hi. I would like to Follower Rec two stories for WIP week. The first is the unfished fourth story in a wonderful series. Glitterbombshell does an incredible job with characterisation and I who doesn't love teacher!WWX? @immoralq
Youth Is Sweet and They Are Growing
by Glitterbombshell
Not rated, WIP, 4k, Wangxian
Summary: It is not the first discussion conference that has been held since Jin Guangyao’s downfall, but it is the largest so far. And the first one since Wei Wuxian officially started teaching the Lan clan’s novices. In an effort to encourage inter-sect alliances and friendships among even the youngest disciples,a series of friendly skill demonstrations and competitions are held, with events for all ages to participate in. To the surprise of literally no one, the Jin sect children seem to come out of the womb puffed up on pride and thinking they’re at least a little bit better than everyone. Their novice disciples are no exception. The Jin novices’ first mistake was underestimating the Lan class because most of them are a few years younger than them. Their worst mistake was making disparaging remarks about their beloved Master Wei where Lan Xin could hear them.
~*~
This is the second rec. I love the idea of LWJ being forced into seclustion and then being rescued by A-Yuan, and it's written so well. Thank you! @immoralq
flower of justice
by neoncoin
T, WIP, 18k, Wangxian
Summary: Convinced his brother won't survive the punishment for disobeying the elders after Nightless City, Lan Xichen intervenes, and pleads insanity on Lan Wangji's behalf. A few years later, little A-Yuan makes friends with a strange man who lives in the Gentian House. (And a few years after that, Sizhui helps plot an escape attempt.)
~*~
One of time travel fic that i like. I like the interaction between WWX and other character and how WWX managed to make a new talisman by accident when he is blind
The Darkness Before Dawn
by PsycheStellata707
M, WIP, 113k, Wangxian
Summary: Wei Ying remembers falling and a voice. “The price of seeing the future Is the ability to see the present” ... Or, another time travel-fix it where Wei Ying is given another chance to change destinies; but nothing comes free.
~*~
Also!
Modern Cultivation AU. Wei Ying gets tossed out of the Jiang sect after a night hunt goes bad. Cue Yu Ziyuan's terrible decisions. He lands with the Wen who of course are like ... No wait. Shit. He's a fucking genius!!
It's still in the ramp up but it has so much potential and I love a Meet Ugly. This has some top quality high grade LWJ sass, and classic WY and his absolute inability to see his own value.
The modern AU translation feels very plausible as well. Of course there'd be social channels dedicated to the wild stuff cultivators can do.
Anyway. Highly recommend! [I second this rec! It's a 💙 ~Mod Kay.]
Truth Will Out (when caught on video)
by KizuKatana
E, WIP, 63k, Wangxian
Summary: A night-hunt goes wrong, and Wei Wuxian is scapegoated for the death of the Jiang Sect Leader and the destroyed core of the Jiang Sect Heir. As punishment, his core is taken and given to Jiang Cheng, and he is stripped of his cultivation credentials and expelled from the sect. What everyone forgot was that Wei Wuxian was wearing the standard issue body camera that each cultivator wore on training missions and high-risk night-hunts. Struggling to make ends meet, Wei Wuxian finds his way to Caiyi Town with the doctor who performed the surgery, a partial core still secretly in place. His application to work at Cloud Recesses is summarily rejected by the hard-edged Second Jade of Lan after an unfortunate initial encounter. But things change when someone hacks into the Jiang systems and releases the footage of what happened. [First part of the title is a quote from Shakespeare, but this story is not based on that one!]

part 3 of Escape Your Destiny (Star Wars Wangxian AU) - on ao3 or tumblr part 1, part 2
-
He had been right to reject seclusion, Lan Wangji thought grimly. The sweet siren call of calm contemplation had nearly seduced him, the Dark Side seeking to eat away at him through other means now that anger and hatred had not done the work – he would have meditated himself into a stupor, becoming little more than a vacuum within the Force, a black hole of deathly intent.
More than that, though, he would have missed – this.
This disaster.
Wei Wuxian’s lips were pale from blood loss and hypothermia. Two of his limbs were at odd angles, probably broken, and Lan Wangji feared that there were more like them beneath the body that was bruised like a tender peach – he had been shielding as many people as he could, Lan Wangji knew, because he knew his Wei Ying too well to think that he might have done anything else.
Lan Wangji still didn’t know all the details, what exactly had been the disaster or why Wei Wuxian’s starfighter had crashed when he knew (with painful recollection) exactly how good a pilot Wei Wuxian was, but it hadn’t really mattered. Xue Yang had rushed into his chamber shouting excitedly - not exactly a rare event - saying something about an alarm and a disaster and a crash and can I have one of these gadgets? possibly two, maybe, I’m thinking two but haven’t really committed yet, it’s a big decision you know, and Lan Wangji’s blood had run cold when he realized what alarm he was referencing.
(A proper Jedi would never have tagged the object of his affections like an endangered bird or a criminal, injecting the tracking chip so deep into bone and muscle that standard scans wouldn’t pick it up and even in-depth scans might register it as a naturally occurring aberration. A proper Jedi would think of such intimate surveillance as cruelty, dehumanization, the caging of a free bird –
A proper Jedi wouldn’t have known what happened.
A proper Jedi wouldn’t have been able to rush over at once, wouldn’t have been in time to retrieve the body from the wreckage, finding it still warm and breathing but swiftly fading into the Force.
A proper Jedi would have been worthless.)
“That looks pretty bad, Master,” Xue Yang said, the comm crackling in his ear, and for once his tone was almost solemn. Perhaps the lessons on empathy were working, following the introduction of the rancor Xue Yang had named Chengmei with an expression so pained and vicious that Lan Wangji had refrained from asking. Perhaps it was that he’d grown so obsessed with his pair of bounty hunters and their foundling assistant, a little not-blind Bothan girl who liked to mouth off at him. Or perhaps it was just something as simple as knowing that if Wei Wuxian were lost, Lan Wangji would have no reason to –
No reason to anything at all.
“It is within the limits of what a bacta tank can heal,” Lan Wangji said, because it was, it would be, as long as he got him there in time.
Time that was swiftly running out.
Later, when Wei Wuxian was safe, Lan Wangji would return to that obscure little space station that had nearly caused his beloved’s death and he would find out what had happened properly. He would find out, and he would slaughter every one of them that caused it, torment them for days if he needed to in order to know who to blame – it didn’t matter if their contribution were accidental or deliberate, major or slight. He would offer up a sacrifice of their suffering to the Dark Side, as solemn as lighting a stick of incense at a temple –
When Wei Wuxian was safe.
Because he would be. He had to be.
Lan Wangji’s Wei Ying would not die so easily.
“Uh, Master? We don’t have a bacta tank.” Xue Yang was silent for a long moment. “I don’t know that many people around here that do. This is Outer Rim, remember? Not even the Hutts have one.”
“There is one in an outpost in the Quiberon sector,” Lan Wangji said. His attention was split between piloting their stolen ship as fast as he could and monitoring Wei Wuxian’s vital signs. He had transferred a certain amount of energy into him already, but the Dark Side was poisonous in overly large quantities, especially if one was not accustomed to it; a pure Jedi like Wei Wuxian couldn’t tolerate it, and Lan Wangji would not risk making him worse. “Inat Prime system. I’ve entered the coordinates. Set us up for a jump to lightspeed.”
“Inat Prime,” Xue Yang repeated, instead of doing as he was told. “Isn’t that – near Rothana?”
Lan Wangji said nothing.
“Rothana’s a manufacturing planet. Heavy engineering – warships. It used to belong to a subsidy of the Jin Engineering Corps, maybe still does, I don’t know, but either way manufacturing planets like that are where those sleemos keep their precious IP. And that means it’s going to be guarded and booby-trapped up your chubba. Who in their right mind would set up an outpost anywhere near there?”
Xue Yang was descending into Huttese slang again, Lan Wangji noted to himself, keeping his calm only by sheer force of willpower even as the Dark Side screamed in his mind that now was the time for rage and pain and blood. Given his hatred of the entire species, Xue Yang only did that when he was especially anxious and didn’t want to admit it.
Later, when he didn’t have more pressing things on his mind, Lan Wangji would have to inquire of his apprentice – which he had previously believed was as transparent to him as a sheet of transparisteel – how he had learned about things like top-secret Jin Engineering manufacturing planets and IP and such things like that.
Later. Right now, he didn’t care.
“Prepare for jump,” he said again, the threat in his voice clear, and this time Xue Yang scrambled to obey, mumbling curses as he went. This was more typical of Xue Yang, but in this case it signified that he was concentrating, and that was all Lan Wangji cared about.
The rest of the trip passed as if in a daze, time counted in the beats of Wei Wuxian’s heart. Still strong, because Wei Wuxian was strong – this wouldn’t be the end of him. It wouldn’t.
Lan Wangji would make sure of that.
“We’re here,” Xue Yang said, breaking through Lan Wangji’s extreme focus on the rise and fall of Wei Wuxian’s chest. “I’m going to guess that our destination is the third planet? If you can call those other ones planets, they’re barely more than asteroids…”
Lan Wangji hummed, affirming.
“So, you going to tell me what this place is? Some super-secret Sith hideout?”
“No.”
“Smuggler’s base? Bounty hunter lair? Mandalorian terrorist cell? Clone factory?”
Lan Wangji rolled his eyes. Xue Yang had been reading too many historical action comics again.
“No, but seriously, Master! I deserve to know what we’re getting into, don’t I? What is this place?”
Lan Wangji was tempted to say you deserve nothing but what I give you, you filthy-tongue swamp-rat, but that was the Dark Side speaking, not him, and not only because the Gusu Lan Jedi order in which he had been raised did not permit cursing. It was simply anathema to him - he was Sith, but not a Lord, and he had encouraged this self-same insolence because it was better than having Xue Yang cringe before him like a kicked dog.
No matter how irritating it might be at times like this.
“It’s Jedi,” he said shortly, and to his amusement that actually shut Xue Yang up for a solid minute.
“I’m sorry, Master, I think I temporarily went insane due to Dark Force poisoning,” Xue Yang finally said. “But did you say that we’re planning on popping over and ‘borrowing’ the bacta tank of a bunch of Jedi?”
“Mm.”
“Master. Master. Please tell me you remember that we’re Sith, right? Sort of the sworn enemy of the Jedi? Arrest-on-sight orders? Any of this ringing any bells here? No? In short, have you lost your mind?”
Lan Wangji took Wei Wuxian’s pulse again. It was getting increasingly thready; he frowned.
“Take us in,” he ordered, and Xue Yang made a whining sound not unlike an especially agitated cat, but he obeyed, finding the planetary base and flashing them with a urgent medical attention required signal and transmitting the passcode Lan Wangji recited to him.
The base opened its doors in silent invitation.
Xue Yang took them in, apparently resigned to his fate and determined to pointedly suffer and judge him without saying a word.
This determination cracked the second they passed through the gates.
“Master!” he shrieked. “Master, Master! That’s the Qinghe Nie emblem!”
“It is,” Lan Wangji agreed. Foreseeing Xue Yang’s next question, he added, “It is here because this is an outpost of the Qinghe Nie Jedi order.”
Xue Yang sounded a bit like a rusty door when he hyperventilated, and even more so when he started laughing hysterically. How had he ever survived being a Sith before, if this was how he reacted to stress?
“Great, right, yes,” he said, nearly howling. “Sure, why not? Let’s go knock on the door of some Jedi and ask them for a bacta tank like we’re borrowing a cup of sugar, sure, okay, we can do that. Jedi are chumps, they’re all about mercy and sympathy and bantha fodder like that; we can con ‘em - it’ll be tricky, but it can be done when you’re in a pinch. I’m fine with that, up for it, it’s cool, all cool. You know who we can’t con? Qinghe Nie, that’s who. ‘Suppress evil no matter the cost’ Qinghe karking Nie.”
Lan Wangji ignored him, scooping Wei Wuxian into his arms and heading out into the saber hall.
Three grim-faced Jedi dressed in the immediately identifiable colors of the Qinghe Nie were waiting there, hands on their lightsabers and droids lingering in the corridors, but they did not attack. Instead, they led Lan Wangji, a nervous Xue Yang dogging his heels, to the medical bay, never uttering a single word.
The medical droids took Wei Wuxian from his arms – Lan Wangji forced himself to recall the Lan sect mantras on restraint and allowed them to do so without ripping out their wires for daring to touch him – but it wasn’t until Wei Wuxian was firmly encased in the bacta tank, the oxygen-rich liquid flowing into his lungs to heal him, the colors on all the screens all showing positive signs, that he was finally able to release the breath it felt that he’d been holding since he first saw the broken starfighter that encased Wei Wuxian’s broken body.
This was fine.
“Wangji,” a low voice said from behind him, and Lan Wangji’s back stiffened.
This was not fine.
The Qinghe Nie were a strange order of Jedi – almost heretical, really, by any traditional measure. The orthodox Jedi order, for the most part, valued calm and serenity and selflessness, prioritizing the logic of the mind over the yearning of the heart, preaching detachment from worldly concerns and attachments…
Qinghe Nie, in contrast, valued righteousness, and cultivated rage.
Halfway to Sith, Lan Wangji’s uncle had once remarked after a glass of something stronger than tea. He’d regretted it later, of course, and tried to walk it back, smooth over his uncharacteristic rudeness, but Lan Wangji still remembered.
The adherents of Qinghe Nie were of the view that for every virtue there was a fault – that the Jedi’s emotional remove would at times render them passive, that self-control could too quickly shade into indifference. They argued that it was the duty of the virtuous to be enraged by evil, intolerant of it, and that only through that anger would they be motivated to act to eradicate it.
Their philosophy often led to their deaths, whether through reckless action or through the corruption of rage into madness, but even their harshest critics had to concede that they were devastatingly effective.
Lan Wangji had always thought that there was something heartbreakingly sincere about all the Jedi that took the harsh vows of Qinghe Nie, each one willingly trading away long lives for the sake of righteousness, for the ability to make a change in the world, each one unable to tolerate life if it meant they weren’t striving to make things better. Perhaps they did not match the Jiang for creativity or the Lan for elegance, perhaps their techniques were more brutish and less refined, their diplomacy little short of appalling, but no other Jedi order could match them for sheer power.
Very few people wanted to be between a Qinghe Nie Jedi and their target, and still less if they had allowed themselves to succumb to the beserker rage that sometimes took them on the battlefield – indeed, in a crisis that called for force of arms, most people who knew what they were about would rather have a single Qinghe Nie on their side than an entire battalion of war-droids from the Jin or Wen engineering corps.
Still, even that efficiency might not have been enough to convince the ancient sticklers of the Jedi Council to condone such a Sith-like view of the Force, but the Qinghe Nie also had an unsurpassed connection to the kyber crystals that were essential to the creation of lightsabers – the mines under their hands were far more numerous and more fruitful than any other order, and for all that they seemed to have dubious connections to the lightsabers they crafted and wielded, with their highly unusual one-sided edge, they were always open-handed and willing to let other Jedi pick freely from their stores.
With the ancestral weapon of the entire Jedi order at stake, even the Jedi Council unwillingly bowed its head to reality and compromised.
Not very happily. Especially since the fierce young head of the Qinghe Nie order – the great Chifeng-zun, Nie Mingjue – had been constantly causing trouble for them ever since he had been admitted to their deliberations.
More relevantly, though, was that Nie Mingjue was also a good friend of Lan Xichen, Lan Wangji’s elder brother by blood, and it had been the gift of his token, his passcode, never revoked, that they had used to enter through the gates.
(Look what happened to the Twin Jades you prized so much, my old clansmen, Uncle, Father, Grandfather. Look at me now. Begging for scraps from a Nie -)
Lan Wangji turned and saluted, bowing deeply and ignoring Xue Yang, who had progressed so far into hysterical laughter that he was now hiccupping.
Nie Mingjue caught his hands and raised him up, just the way he always had, and that grim face surveyed Lan Wangji from top to bottom, those searing eyes seeming to pierce into the depths of his corrupted soul.
“You look well,” he said, which surprised even Lan Wangji, who had thought himself beyond surprises. “That’s good.”
“What the fuck,” Xue Yang muttered. “What the fuck, what the fuck, what the fuck – you guys are with me here, right? This is kriffing insane…”
The Qinghe Nie Jedi ignored him.
“Chifeng-zun,” Lan Wangji said politely, and ignored the man’s raised eyebrow. He was not about to fall back into calling him da-ge the way he’d done back when he was in the Jedi crèche, no matter how tempting – everyone had called Nie Mingjue da-ge back then, too young to be afraid of his fierce and barely leashed energy. “Thank you for lending us temporary use of your base.”
There wasn’t really a polite way to say I wasn’t expecting to run into you here under the circumstances, but from the way Nie Mingjue snorted, Lan Wangji suspected he’d understood regardless.
“Checking up on the Jin,” he said, an explanation that Lan Wangji didn’t deserve to hear. “Treasonous svapers, the lot of them. Is this Wei Wuixan?”
Lan Wangji nodded. His heart was unexpectedly in his throat as Nie Mingjue studied the other Jedi through the glass of the bacta tank, though he wasn’t sure why.
He was Sith now, after all. Why would he care what Nie Mingjue thought?
It would have been easier if Nie Mingjue had been angry at him, full of rage the way he so often was. Easier if he’d turned his tongue as sharp as any lightsaber to scolding him, or turned his face away in coldness. Nie Mingjue notoriously despised the Sith, had probably meant to call the Jin Sithspawn instead of svapers earlier, had probably switched the word only in deference to Lan Wangji’s current occupation – which meant he knew, because of course he knew, there was no way Lan Xichen hadn’t told him even if his position on the Council hadn’t already entitled him to all such secrets.
He knew, and he still persisted in acting like – like –
“Cute enough,” Nie Mingjue commented, and Lan Wangji covered his suddenly burning face with both hands. “You have good taste.”
“Please stop,” Lan Wangji mumbled, mortified beyond all belief. Xue Yang was looking back and between the two of them with his jaw gaping wider than a Gungan’s.
Nie Mingjue snorted, amused. “I carried you around on my shoulders when you were knee high, Wangji. I think I’m entitled to torment you a bit about your crush.”
Xue Yang looked like he was going to forsake the ways of the Sith, convert to Qinghe Nie, and start logging prayers at the temple of Nie Mingjue, and Lan Wangji couldn’t even blame him.
“Don’t you have anything to say about –” Lan Wangji shut his mouth with a snap.
He didn’t actually want to hear Nie Mingjue exorcising him for his choices, no matter how little he regretted them.
Nie Mingjue was silent for a moment, contemplative. “No.”
Lan Wangji blinked, not understanding.
“I don’t have anything to say,” Nie Mingjue clarified with a shrug. “I can’t say I entirely understand why you chose what you did, but we all choose our own paths in the Force, Wangji. I have faith that even though your path leads you to the Dark Side now, it will eventually lead you back to us once more. If you keep your sense of righteousness about you and continue to stand up for what you believe is right as you always have – and avoid engaging in the wholesale slaughter of innocents the way so many Sith do – I will never be disappointed in you.”
…maybe Lan Wangji would allow the people in that spaceport to live.
But only because it would hurt Wei Wuxian to know that he had sacrificed so much for nothing, of course. It was pure selfishness, nothing more.
(The Dark Side hissed in his head, bitter-angry-vicious-hate-hate-hate, but Lan Wangji hadn’t been Hanguang-jun for nothing. He controlled himself, allowing for only the influences he chose to accept – it was his independence that had led him to the Dark Side, and his independence, he believed, that would allow him to forge his own path, as Nie Mingjue had said, even inside the ways of the Sith. His uncle would say that such thoughts were pure arrogance, pride before the fall, but, well. He’d already Fallen, hadn’t he?)
“Would you like to stay with him until his vital signs have recovered?” Nie Mingjue asked, and Lan Wangji nodded, grateful despite himself.
Grateful, too, that Nie Mingjue did not speak of Lan Wangji reconciling with the rest of his old order.
“I will not stay longer,” he added. “I know it must be a burden to you, opening your doors to one such as me –”
“Ridiculous,” Nie Mingjue scoffed. “This is a secret base, Wangji. If you don’t say anything about it, who’ll know? And before you ask, I’m going to tell Wei Wuxian that you saved his life whether you’re here for him waking up or not, so take that into account when selecting your leave time. And I’ll exaggerate.”
He would, too, Lan Wangji thought fondly. Nie Mingjue had always been big brother to all the Jedi younglings, no matter how grown up they eventually got, and he never let them forget it.
“I’ll consider it,” he allowed, and settled into a meditation pose at the side of the room.
“As for you,” Nie Mingjue said to Xue Yang, who straightened up so quickly that he might as well have attached a ruler to his spine. “I hear that you’re the one that’s been attacking Hutt palaces?”
Xue Yang glanced at Lan Wangji, who sighed.
“You shouldn’t encourage him, da-ge,” he murmured. “He gets into enough trouble as it is.”
“Comradery does more to defeat evil than any amount of solitary philosophizing,” Nie Mingjue proclaimed, certain as ever in his own righteousness. It would be unbearably irritating if it was anyone less sincerely bullheaded about it, earnest but full of flaws. “Anyway, it’d be good for some of our padawans to see a Sith in action without needing to go up against one right off the bat. You in?”
“…in? I don’t – there aren’t any Hutt palaces around here..?”
“They take their travelling palaces on the Quiberon Line,” one of the Qinghe Nie Jedi said, and Xue Yang’s eyes lit up at the promise of what he undoubtedly thought was an opportunity for wholesale slaughter. It wouldn’t be, of course, not when he was going to be fighting alongside the strict Qinghe Nie, but it would keep him busy for the time it took Wei Wuxian to stabilize and recover.
Maybe Lan Wangji would even stay long enough to speak with his Wei Ying before retreating to be his silent and unwanted protector again.
Maybe.

Inspired by Built On Hope by Alaceron

Chapter One under the “Keep reading”, the rest on AO3 (WIP)
Tumblr media
Chapter One: There’s A Sith In The Senate!
On Yiling, a moon of Planet Yunmeng:
Sizhui landed the ship on a clearing on the forest covered moon. He remembered learning about Yiling, but he still felt like he wasn’t prepared for what it looked like on the surface. When he had heard “a forest moon”, the first thing that had come to mind was a lush green place full of trees and wildlife. Yiling was not that.
“I don’t Sense anyone here,” Sizhui said, standing on the ramp of their ship next to Master Wangji. The trees surrounding the clearing were twisted and bare.
Master Wangji didn’t say anything. He started walking down the ramp and into the woods, while Sizhui hurried after him. Sometimes, Sizhui wished that his Master was a bit more forthcoming about what they were doing and why, but all he could do was trust him and follow.
They stopped in front of a stone bunker. Master Wangji examined the control panel next to it. As Sizhui tried to peek over his shoulder at what he was doing, he laid his hand on the scanner and a moment later, the door slid open.
That was when Sizhui realized that he had been wrong about there being no one on the moon. He saw a man trapped in carbonite.
The moment the door slid all the way open, the frozen slab began to thaw. Sizhui could Sense how the Force pulled towards the man, as though he was a drain and the Force but liquid.
He knew who the man was; both from the living memory of the Knights and Masters who walked the halls of the Jedi Temple, and from the far less factual whispers of the Younglings and Padawan.
Darth Neider, the most powerful Sith to have ever lived.
Sizhui stopped himself from activating his lightsaber and concentrated on his breathing. He watched in shock as Master Wangji walked across the grate floor, to the rabidly unfreezing slab of carbonite, to hold out his arms. Sizhui thought highly of his master, but was Master Wangji’s plan to throw a worse Sith at the Senate until the Sith already in there went away? There had to be more to it.
The Sith thawed and fell into Master Wangji’s waiting arms.
Sizhui couldn’t see detail in the dimly lit bunker. What he did see was Darth Neider grasping the front of Master Wangji’s robes and Master Wangji holding him tighter in response. They stared into each other’s eyes, bright Sith red against Master Wangji’s light brown.
The moment stretched out and then ended. Darth Neider turned his face towards Sizhui.
“Oh! And who’s this?” His voice was raspy from disuse, but the tone was delighted. Sizhui glanced at his Master, who nodded for him to speak.
“I’m Lan Sizhui, Master Wangji’s Padawan.”
The Sith’s face went through several emotions. None of them were the type of rage Sizhui associated with the Sith Order. “Master Wangji! A Padawan! How long has it been? You say Lan, that must mean you’re from Gusu as well?”
“I…” Sizhui took a deep breath and answered the questions asked in the order that they had been asked. “I’m unsure what you mean by ‘how long’. Yes, I spent a short period of my childhood on Gusu, before I was taken in by the Jedi Order.”
“Thirteen standard years,” Master Wangji said. Darth Neider turned back towards him, still in his arms like that was just a normal thing that they did. Sizhui had never seen his Master hold anyone before.
“Thirteen?” The question rang empty in the bunker before the Sith grinned wide. “That’d explain why you’re so broad and even more handsome than I remember,      Master     Wangji.”
The Sith winked at Master Wangji before addressing Sizhui again. Sizhui was reeling, the grate floor and the pit beneath it felt a little too unsteady, all of a sudden.
“My name is Wei Wuxian. I know you’ve probably heard all sorts of things about me, but I can assure you that I really don’t eat Jedi Padawan for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!”
“So all of the other things are true?” Sizhui asked before he could stop himself. Darth Neider, Wei Wuxian laughed.
“Yes, well, I do occasionally eat Padawan for a light snack.”
“Behave,” said Master Wangji, but it was more of a fond scolding than anything serious, and it was immediately followed by Wei Wuxian saying, “Make me.”
Sizhui got the feeling that this was an exchange they had had a million times before. Which was weird, since his Master had never mentioned Wei Wuxian.
But then again, Master Wangji wasn’t big on mentioning things.
Wei Wuxian swayed in Master Wangji’s arms. “We need to get you back on the ship,” Master Wangji said, holding him tighter.
“I’m fine,” Wei Wuxian replied, still swaying. He reached out and Pulled something to him. It disappeared into the folds of his black robes before Sizhui could get a good look at it.
“Did you forget that I’m the most powerful Sith ever and so on? A little freezing won’t hold me down for long.”
In response, Master Wangji walked out of the bunker, towards where they’d landed. Wei Wuxian had no choice but to be taken along. Sizhui followed.
“Thirteen years of freezing,” Master Wangji corrected.
Sizhui fell into step with his Master, watching the exchange from the corner of his eye.
“You’re absolutely right, as always. It could’ve been a much shorter time.” Wei Wuxian shot Master Wangji a pointed look, which he returned with a glare. Sizhui was pretty sure that he was missing some important context. Or, a lot of important context, more likely.
“For anyone interested, it is obvious you are alive. You need your strength.” Master Wangji’s word count for the day was rising so rapidly that Sizhui worried he’d get a sore throat.
“Who’s interested? Besides the entire Jedi Order, and all of the other authorities both local and Galactic,” Wei Wuxian asked.
“Most of the common people, too”.
The Sith smiled, and turned away so his long, loose hair could hide his face. “Right, yeah, of course.”
It was bizarre, and in Sizhui’s humble opinion, in bad taste to joke about the impact Darth Neider had had on most of the galaxy. What about all those atrocities he’d heard so much about? Surely Master Wangji couldn’t find the loss of life funny.
“The Council strongly suspects that there’s a Sith in the Senate,” Sizhui explained for his Master, who was just staring at Wei Wuxian.
Wei Wuxian stopped smiling and the Force whirling around him went still and suffocating. Sizhui took a step back, but Master Wangji held Wei Wuxian closer and more secure in his arms.
“The apprentice of Wen Ruohan, then,” Wei Wuxian said
“Weren’t you his apprentice?” Sizhui asked. He had been taught that there could only be one at a time, and that the apprentice, in order to become a full-fledged Sith, had to kill their Master. That was what the elders had said had happened between Darth Neider and the Sith Master Wen Ruohan, Darth Igniferus.
Wei Wuxian looked over at him, smiling again, but now that Sizhui had seen him smile for real, he could recognize that this one was fake.
“Isn’t your Master still big on reminding everyone not to believe any old rumor they hear?” Wei Wuxian asked. “Consider this Lan Sizhui: a scenario where I was there when Wen Ruohan died, and he was pierced by a lightsaber wielded by a Sith, and in light of what you know about the Sith hierarchy, there is now a Sith Lord in the Senate.”
Sizhui looked at his feet with a thoughtful frown.
“You don’t need to figure out the answer right away. In fact I think it’s better if you let it simmer for a while,” Wei Wuxian told him, and when Sizhui glanced at him, he looked fond. It wasn’t an expression Sizhui had been expecting, but it did stir something in the back of his mind. Like he’d seen it before.
Their ship was right in front of them. Sizhui snapped out of his reverie and opened it so Master Wangji could take Wei Wuxian inside and place him on a bed. There were only two beds on their small ship; a bit of an oversight on his Master’s part, Sizhui thought.
With a final glance at his Master and their new… Ally? Prisoner? Bait? Sizhui left them alone in the tiny sleeping quarters and went to pilot the ship.
It was peaceful for the first few hours of their journey back. Likely, Wei Wuxian had given in to his exhaustion and was resting while Master Wangji saw to his healing. They’d jump into hyperspace once they were out of the System. The Star System AFC-3 was huge, with many inhabited planets and moons; getting out would take a while.
Sizhui took a moment to admire the cloud and mist covered Planet Gusu as they passed its orbit. He had been too young to remember much about those days, and his home was the Order now. Pondering on who you had been before the Order was ill advised and one of the many paths to the dark side.
The peace didn’t last much longer than that. Wei Wuxian, with Master Wangji in tow, burst into the cockpit.
“It’s so annoying though, and I forgot to grab a hair tie or anything while you were dragging me out,” Wei Wuxian complained. It was true that his hair was long and all over the place.
Shizui tried his best to concentrate on preparing for the next leg of their journey. It was a challenge.
“Padawan, you have long hair, too. Surely you have ties to spare.” Wei Wuxian grabbed the back of the pilot’s seat.
“Do not bother him,” Master Wangji said just as Sizhui was turning around to tell Wei Wuxian that he did in fact have a spare. Before he could get the words out, his Master reached inside his sleeve, fiddled with something for a moment, and pulled out a red ribbon.
“Here,” he offered it to Wei Wuxian.
Wei Wuxian blinked, his mouth opening as if to say something, and then just stayed open for a good few seconds. Sizhui hadn’t known that his Master was carrying a ribbon around.
When Wei Wuxian did speak, what came out was, “Shouldn’t you tie me up, Master Wangji?” He held out his hands, wrists together. “I am your prisoner, after all,” he said in a tone of voice that was completely at odds with his reaction earlier.
Master Wangji wore an expression Sizhui couldn’t quite read. “Not until we’re closer to Coruscant,” he said.
“Um, Master?” Sizhui asked and watched as Wei Wuxian’s eyes took on a delighted glint.
“Why, Master--” he began and then stopped and changed tracks completely. “Wait, we’re going straight to Coruscant?”
 “Hm.”
That was more like the Master Wangji he knew and Sizhui filed away what he’d just seen and heard. “We’re going to bring you back with us,” he said, back on track, centered by the mission. He glanced at his Master to check that he’d understood the next step right and got an approving nod.
“On whose orders?” Wei Wuxian asked.
“We’ve been tasked to find a way to best lure out the Sith in the Senate,” Sizhui explained their mission parameters. It was common for the Jedi Council to just toss Master Wangji at the general direction of the problem and trust that he’d sort it out.
It was a weird plan, with layers to it he couldn’t see yet, but Sizhui trusted Master Wangji’s judgment. If he thought that locating the infamous Wei Wuxian and taking him back into the Temple was the best course of action, then that had to be the case.
Wei Wuxian narrowed his eyes at Master Wangji. In response, Master Wangji held out the ribbon in a more insistent way.
“We, uh, we’re about to make the jump to lightspeed, you’ll need to sit down,” Sizhui said, even though interrupting felt deeply uncomfortable.
At that, Master Wangji glanced at him and then back at Wei Wuxian and the ribbon, raising his brows. Wei Wuxian let out a put-upon sigh.
“Fine,” he said and spun around. “Don’t think you’re off the hook. We will talk about this later.”
“Of course,” Master Wangji said and moved closer to tie Wei Wuxian’s hair back. Sizhui watched as he gently combed his fingers through it, gathering it into a high ponytail. Wei Wuxian had closed his eyes at some point, but he cracked them open when Master Wangji’s hand settled onto his shoulder, with the thumb brushing the nape of his neck.
With a wry smile, he reached up to take Master Wangji’s hand in his before turning back to face him. “In front of the Padawan, really?”
Sizhui had never witnessed his Master rolling his eyes before. Wei Wuxian’s smile widened and he swung their joined hands from side to side before letting go to take a seat.
“At first opportunity, we’ll talk,” he reiterated. Master Wangji nodded and sat down as well.
Sizhui jumped the ship into hyperspace.

Lan Xichen

Dragon - The mighty dragons of Gusu lived for thousands of years until a war set their Cloud Recesses ablaze and nearly all of the dragons were slain. Xichen, his brother, and a handful of others survived and are trying to rebuild what was lost.

Scrapbook 2021 | Part II
For anyone that’s new to this, this is how I keep track of all of the things I enjoy and/or create throughout the year. I have literally been doing this since I had a livejournal. I think the first one was 2011? Maybe? In which case, woohoo, ten years of scrapbooking!
It’s a nice little snippet of my life and helps to organize my brain.
A reminder:
Normal font - Indifferent/Neutral Italicized font - Enjoyed bold font - Loved with an asterisk* - All time favorite (bracketed titles) - Re-watches/Re-reads strikethough - Disliked
Goals are: read 80 books (as of today, i am at 31 books, which sounds not great but goodreads assures me that it’s only 1 book behind schedule), finish five video games (at two at the moment... mostly because I keep dragging my feet on actually finishing P5R), write more than 20 fics (at... 6) or something larger than 20k (negative), and write either an original short story or start a novel (i have started plotting for the novel? does that count?)

Jedi Lan Wangji and Sith Lord Wei Wuxian
On the surface, Lan Wangji would make such a good Jedi... except Wei Wuxian is the sith lord that he wants to marry.
Anakin is appalled to know that there's someone even worse than his master when it comes to flirting with the enemy. And Obi-wan keeps thinking that Lan Wangji would make a better jedi master for Anakin because Lan Wangji is (or rather appears to be) perfect and follows all the Jedi codes to the letter.

Star Wars AU for MDZS with great jedi!WWX and half a hairsbreadth from falling!LWJ (Or possibly Sith!LWJ, because yum).
“I can’t believe there’s a Sarlacc,” Wei Wuxian complained. “It just seems so unlikely.”
“Local legend refer to it as the Xuanwu of Slaughter,” Lan Wangji said.
“It’s still a Sarlacc pit. And we’re stuck in here, at least until we can get past it…say, why do you wear Lan robes, by the way?”
Lan Wangji gave him a look that suggested that Wei Wuxian was an idiot.
“I mean it! You’re a Sith, aren’t you? Why adopt the outfit of the most pristine, righteous order of Jedi monks of all time?”
Wei Wuxian’s legs were kicking back and forth, and Lan Wangji really, truly wished that he didn’t find the irritating Jedi as attractive as he did. He could feel the Dark Side enjoying his suffering.
“I did not adopt them,” he said stiffly. “They are mine.”
“In what sense? Yours as in you bought them, yours as in you took them off a dead body –”
“My inheritance.”
“No way,” Wei Wuxian said automatically. “Your forehead ribbon has clouds on it; that’s the main line, and I’ve seen the head of the order – well, from a distance, but those robes are just so white it’s impossible to mistake him – and he’s…he’s…actually, now that I think about it, he looks a lot like you.”
“My older brother,” Lan Wangji admitted, feeling the same pang of sorrow he always felt when he thought of Lan Xichen. “Biologically, as well as in the Force.”
“Wait,” Wei Wuxian said. “You’re literally a Lan? A born-into-the-order Lan? And you’re a Sith lord?!”
“Sith only,” Lan Wangji corrected. “There is no basis for the imposition of a class system –”
“Force, you even talk like a Lan,” Wei Wuxian marveled. “And you’re Zewu-jun’s brother? I didn’t even know he had a brother other than the one in seclusion, what’s his name, Hanguang-jun –”
Lan Wangji involuntarily winced.
Wei Wuxian’s jaw dropped. “You’re Hanguang-jun? The – no way. Everyone is always talking about how he’s like, the paragon Jedi…”
Lan Wangji shrugged and said nothing. He had been, once, or at least something close enough for people to mistake it.
Arrogance had always been the stepping-stone to disaster.
“What happened? What in the world could have made someone like you Fall? Or, uh, who, I guess, if it was a person?”
You, Lan Wangji thought helplessly, and the Dark Side pressed down on his chest, relishing his pain. You and me, in another world, in a vision of the future that I will never allow to come to pass –
“Unimportant,” he said. “It cannot be remedied.”
“Would you want it to be?” Wei Wuxian asked, his eyes bright, and Lan Wangji could see him starting to become curious – but that was unacceptable. Anyone in the world could be lured into a fall to the Dark Side except for Wei Wuxian.
There would be no Yiling Patriarch in this lifetime. Lan Wangji has sworn it.
Lan Wanji has Fallen for it.
“I know Chord Assassination,” he said instead, offering it as a distraction, and to his relief Wei Wuxian took the bait, chattering on about the famed Lan technique of using ‘strings’ created in the Force as a weapon and how it might be applied to their current Sarlac-related dilemma.
Once they escaped this place, Lan Wangji thought that it might be time to retreat into true seclusion once more – not the excuse that the Lan sect put about to keep the truth of what had happened to Hanguang-jun secret, but the true peace of meditation, of losing himself to the Force. It was not the way of the Dark Side, which put the emphasis on action, often reckless action, and on strong emotions, but despite having Fallen, Lan Wangji was in many ways still a Lan, thoughtful and restrained.
He wouldn’t still be wearing the forehead ribbon if he wasn’t.
It would be good for him, he thought. It would let him center himself, remember his purpose – not, as the Dark Side wished, the possessive hungry claiming sort of love that wracked his body every time he so much as glanced at Wei Wuxian (I want to bring someone back to Gusu, he told his brother in the hazy, dazed immediate aftermath of the future-sight that had led to his Fall, but I do not know if he would be willing), but his true purpose: to preserve Wei Wuxian’s happiness.
At the expense, if need be, of anyone and anything else.

continuation of Star Wars Wangxian AU - on ao3 or tumblr
-
The way of the Sith is the dyad, the rule of two: always two, no more, no less.
A master and an apprentice – one to represent the allure of the Dark Side of the Force, the other to serve as the baited, walking willingly into a trap. A pair of magnets, the moth and the flame; without each other, they were incomplete, unstable, and only together could they be considered complete.
Perhaps, Lan Wangji reflects, he should have considered this fundamental precept more thoroughly.
Certainly earlier.
If he had thought about it earlier, he could have taken steps, measures, something. Anything, really, as long as it wasn’t…
“Hey, Master! You’re back! Did you have a nice trip? Kill lots of people?”
…this.
“No,” Lan Wangji said, in the tones of one who knew suffering. The Dark Side rippled around him, thickening as he poured his frustration and annoyance into it – a complaint shared with the abyss, in a world where rage and despair only made the abyss stronger. “No deaths.”
The Sarlacc didn’t count.
Anyway, Wei Wuxian had been the one to kill it in the end, in order to enable them to escape. He’d almost looked like he’d felt bad about it, too.
Silly fool, Lan Wangji thought with far too much affection.
Though, speaking of silly fools...
Xue Yang grinned at him, his little tiger tooth making the otherwise vicious expression significantly less intimidating.
Lan Wangji had observed that fact early in their acquaintance, and had resolved never to tell Xue Yang so as to let him continue to be frustrated by the apparently inexplicable fact that people never seemed to take him seriously at first glance. If Xue Yang ever figured it out and confronted him about it, he could even theoretically, at a stretch, justify it as additional Dark Side training.
“Sounds like a wasted trip, then,” he said. “I killed five.”
Lan Wangji met his gaze with a steady one of his own. “I do not recall instructing you to go on a mission.”
“Aww, but Master –”
Lan Wangji was newer to the Dark Side of the Force than Xue Yang, but he had the rigorous training of the Cloud Recesses behind him: he did not even need to reach out deliberately through the Force to oppress Xue Yang, driving him to his knees.
“It was a continuation of an earlier mission, Master! I wouldn’t disobey you intentionally –”
Lan Wangji released him. “Of course you would.”
Xue Yang looked up at him, grin back on his face. “Well, yeah. But not that obviously. I wouldn’t admit it to your face.”
He would, if he thought he could get away with it, and Lan Wangji permitted a look of skepticism to cross his face, though he did not comment aloud.
“What mission?” he asked instead. Knowing Xue Yang as he did, there were very few missions that he had given in which murder was permissible, much less multiple murders. They were trying to keep a low profile, after all.
Xue Yang bounced to his feet. “I invaded another Hutt palace!” he announced gleefully, his eyes shining like stars. “Dressed up as a bounty hunter and everything!”
Xue Yang had once been a slave on a planet controlled by the Hutts, a dirty sandy place with little compassion for the young and none for the weak – and Xue Yang had been both. He had been bartered from one master to another until one careless owner had crushed his hand and his spirit at the same time, rendering him even more useless and condemning him to a terrible fate. No one wanted damaged goods, no one but those who wanted to break them further.
How Xue Yang went from that to being the apprentice of a self-styled Sith Lord, Lan Wangji was unsure beyond a basic understanding that Xue Yang had somehow risen up from his dire circumstances to massacre the entire clan of that particular owner. They had met only when Xue Yang was already in the midst of his training, a slightly gawky teenage delinquent who’d long ago learned that murder was the first, best, and only answer to all of his problems.
He’d tried to kill Lan Wangji, of course.
The circumstances had been admittedly been rather unusual. The Sith tradition called for dyads, a master and an apprentice in each set (though of course there could be more than one set of Sith, though rarely if ever on a level or in an area where they could challenge each other); the typical way of things for the Sith was that the apprentice struck down the master, rising to take on an apprentice of his own, or that the master tired of the apprentice and lured another promising would-be apprentice into Falling, with the typical test of a new apprentice being the slaughter of the old one.
Lan Wangji was strikingly idiosyncratic in that he had Fallen entirely on his own, without a master to guide him to the Dark Side.
This did not mean he was without knowledge: the Lan sect, which prized learning, of course had a rich collection of treatises on what the Dark Side entailed, although they were meant to be read as warnings rather than guides. After he had had the Force vision of that terrible future, the future he would Fall to the Dark Side, had Fallen, rather than permit to take place, Lan Wangji had stolen several before departing the Cloud Recesses.
It was little surprise, then, that Xue Yang’s old master had put such effort into recruiting Lan Wangji as his own apprentice once he had discovered him.
Lan Wangji had had no patience for such nonsense. Rather than slaughter Xue Yang, who had clearly been incited against him, he had followed the traces back to their origin and killed the Sith master that Xue Yang followed instead.
Unfortunately, per the rule of two, that left Xue Yang without a master and Lan Wangji with the horrible realization that would-be Sith masters would be crawling out of the woodwork to attack him on a regular basis if he didn’t put himself in a dyad at once to prevent it. In the interest of not being harassed, and thereby distracted from his plans, he had recruited Xue Yang as his own apprentice, skipping the apprentice step entirely and becoming a master.
Perhaps that was why Wei Wuxian had called him a Sith lord, he mused. Wei Wuxian was sensitive to the Force, talented in it almost to extremes; maybe he could tell that Lan Wangji was in a position of dominance, rather than growth.
“ – it was great. Even with all the warnings from previous incidents, they were so arrogant, thinking it would never happen to them. Rotten slugs! The leader had a rancor in the dungeon under his throne, too; the thing was kept half-starved so that it’d turn on anyone that got dropped into its nest – wretched little space, I could barely move, much less a rancor –”
“I take it from your explanation that we now own a rancor,” Lan Wangji said, feeling somewhat pained.
Pained, but also gratified: he had been working on teaching Xue Yang the concept of empathy, reasoning that the truly psychopathic would never truly be able to connect with the rage, suffering, and pain that powered the Dark Side of the Force.
Only once Xue Yang understood love, understood it and lost it, could he truly understand the Dark Side as Lan Wangji did.
A pet was a good start.
“Uh, maybe? I mean, rancors are from Dathomir, which is pretty steeped in the Dark Side, so it’s almost like they’re a natural ally of the Sith –”
Rancors were semi-sentient five-meter tall reptiles that resembled boulders, with armored hides that could resist blasters and even light sabers at times, and while it was true that their home planet was rich in the Dark Side, home of assassins and Nightkin and murderers of all sorts, rancors themselves were actually quite friendly and non-combative as a general rule.
Not that Xue Yang knew that.
“You will care for it yourself, without disturbing me,” Lan Wangji instructed, not wanting Xue Yang to dwell too long on whether or not what he had done was appropriate. Some people could only be coaxed, not coerced; Xue Yang’s former master had very nearly ruined him, teaching him all the wrong lessons about divesting oneself of emotions (the Sith way, of course: no emotions but hate) without any of the necessary context, and any future education needed to done cautiously to avoid Xue Yang becoming utterly consumed by the abyss, capable of nothing but lashing out, a rabid dog in need of being put down.
Lan Wangji was not in the market for another Sith apprentice.
Xue Yang, at least, was easy to manage: as long as he was permitted to vent his more murderous inclinations in the way he liked the most, pursuing the vile Hutt clan wherever they had set up their gangster dens full of corruption and rot, his attempts to overthrow Lan Wangji were half-hearted and disinterested, and the worst Lan Wangji would need to put up with was a bit of back talk.
“Of course,” Xue Yang said, grinning with teeth. “Wouldn’t want to keep you from your boy, would we?”
…not that the back talk wasn’t annoying.
“You are not permitted to speak of him,” Lan Wangji said coldly, but that never worked for very long. Xue Yang was an extremely disrespectful apprentice, although Lan Wangji supposed it was his own fault for rejecting the rigid hierarchy of the traditional master-apprentice relationship – of the entire concept of the Sith lord and the classist structure generally associated with it – and encouraging Xue Yang to similarly reject such things in favor of the anarchy of self-determination. “He is not yours to even think of.”
Perhaps a wiser man might refuse to let Xue Yang even know of such a weakness, but Lan Wangji was moderately sure that in an even fight – or even an uneven one – Wei Wuxian would have no difficulty putting Lan Wangji’s unruly, unwanted apprentice in his place.
“Yeah, yeah,” Xue Yang laughed. “I know: hands off, no touching. I still don’t get it. What’s so great about this one guy? The universe is full of people, even force-sensitives; if you’re so hung up on having a Jedi, why not go find one that’s a little more compromising?”
Because there is no one else like Wei Ying. There will never be anyone else for me, not ever – only him.
“One day you will meet someone who moves you,” Lan Wangji said placidly, a touch of his old talent for Force visions shimmering in his soul in confirmation of the dimly uncertain future. “And we will have this conversation again, when at last you understand.”
“Sure,” Xue Yang said, clearly disbelieving. “Whatever. Let me tell you about these two bounty hunters I met on my trip – a matched set, one in white and one in black - fuck, they were so annoying, you wouldn’t even believe –”
