I think they were so worried about not getting a season 3 they ruined both the viewers expecting one and the viewers who would've liked it to end there. they've created an easily destroyable status quo because of course something needs to happen to get everyone back together for season 3. so it's not even a happy ending; it's so fragile, it's designed to fall apart the second that anyone learns that the show is back on. i get not wanting to bank on having a third season and wrapping it up but like. Galavant did that and did it better. WITH THE HEROES RETIRING AND THE TWO MINUTE MARRIAGE CEREMONY TO BOOT. But it gave an outline of where the plot might go from there and how the adventure will continue if it gets to. And it never got to, and season 2's ending is good because it's not /fragile/--it's not a cliffhanger, but you get the idea that they could keep going from there still. whereas this one didn't want to be a cliffhanger so much that they created the most breakable new status quo in history and if there is a season 3 it'll immediately be undone and I'll probably still watch it but like I'll /know/, y'know? They could fix everything in the first episode of season 3 and I'd still have to know that at one point, this was considered an acceptable outcome.

The thing that is driving me absolutely insane is they DID NOT HAVE TO DO THIS!

There's so many people looking at it like "well it's a shame that 2x08 clearly had to cram several episodes into one for budget reasons and it made the development weaker but that's the situation MAX put them in" and I cannot emphasize enough how much that is not true.

MAX did not break it to them after episodes 2x01 - 2x07 were written and half filmed that they would have to wrap up the whole plot in 30 minutes. Like absolute worst case scenario they had 10 eps mostly written and budget came back 20% over and they had to reduce to 8 total. More likely they knew they were getting 8 from the start.

It is absolutely nobody's fuck up except David Jenkins and his writers' room if they were unrealistic about what character beats were needed and would fit in the timeframe to reach a satisfying wrap up.

Worries about no S3 were on the table the moment it took until JUNE to get confirmation of S2. This wasn't sprung on them. If they wanted their story to have a "just in case" happy ending and then a "fully realized arc" happy ending, they should have fucking acted like it???

I was shocked when the first three episodes that dropped were so hardcore on destroying Edward's relationships and laying bare exactly how deep his issues went. It only made sense to me if they were going all in on getting a S3 and prepared to spend all of S2 focused on the implications of all that, and then the not-even two week in-universe timeline of the season reinforced my understanding that was happening.

"Shame we don't have time for our main couple to even start addressing their relationship or having moments of self-realization and sharing their issues," says guy who decided to make the first half of S2 about adding more problems on top of well established ones from S1 and the second half of S2 about throwing in a second breakup cycle instead of dealing with the fallout from the first.

Want Edward to end on a beat of feeling part of the found family? Well maybe adding a timeskip after 2x05 and then a crew chat in 2x06 where you make it clear he did an apology tour offscreen could help, but you also could have just not focused hard on him poisoning his relationship with every single one of them in the first place???

There's multiple different ways you can do Act 2 of a three act structure, and they did not have to choose one that ends on another dark cliffhanger beat or right at the open ended turning point toward growth? Like they didn't even do the one they picked in a way they could fit in their season. I feel like by the end of a struggles Act 2 both your protagonists need to have self-realized their issues and maybe had one conversation about it? Edward still wasn't talking about his guilt, and Stede wasn't talking about anything.

They aren't even at the turning point of growth and out of the backsliding / lessons learned era yet, that's why potential S3 will start on another backslide when status quo breaks and Stede starts "that's nice, dear"-ing Edward during the day and slipping out at night to vicariously listen to pirate stories or whatever (and they frame it like he's cheating).

We have two out of three seasons in a show that might only get two, and I feel like the characters have barely moved from their starting position.

Like idk maybe they are really good at coming up with character flaws - ex: Stede is repressed and bottles up his traumas until he mentally checks out / runs away - and just drawing blanks on how to believably "fix" them, but just going "well what if we just used this flaw to throw another miscommunication roadblock in their relationship?" is not getting them where they want to be.

The season was fundamentally designed against their stated goal and did not make what seem to be necessary writing concessions to the reduced screentime if they wanted their finale to land as an even plausibly happy ending. It's hollow.

And possibly not even salvageable in S3 since they aren't demonstrating the skills to salvage it.

Motelgate Update

There's been a lot of updates on this already! I just wanted to give my two cents about the situation and tbh it is messy!!!

With the motel being so close to the gas station, it would make sense for the production to just buy out the hotel for the day they filmed there and let the cast/production team hang out there throughout the evening of the shoot, while they got everything ready for filming at the gas station.

We even get a shot that shows the motel in the background during the gas station scene:

And so the main question is, when this line is said by Will, are they referring to the motel right next to them? Because to me it comes off like this motel could be at least a mile away with that phrasing? If it was in fact the motel right next to them, wouldn't Will just say Hey there's a motel literally right there and then have him point to it on their left? And then have the camera acknowledge it's proximity?

Maybe? Maybe not though? Maybe they thought it would be better to throw in a motel line, but not give much more than that? Otherwise people might have connected the dots sooner if they focused on it, only to sort of drop it entirely? I could see how that might have contributed to it being something a lot of fans might have considered as a possibility by now if that was the case.

Regardless of my doubts based on that line, I want to continue bc there is some stuff that still makes this possibility quite plausible.

At the end of this scene at the gas station, they leave and drive to Surfer Boy. There's no way of knowing for certain how far away SB was from the gas station. There is some implications throughout the season that SB is popular enough to have a lot of locations throughout Cali, and now it even has locations in Nevada. So it could have been a five minute drive from the gas station, or it could have been up to a half hour or more. I would take a guess that it was somewhere closer to 20ish minutes though. I just doubt they had them drive another hour or more with all the driving they've been doing already. I hope for their sanity that there just so happened to be a SB in that area.

Now, in the West during the spring time, sunset is around 7pm. This means that arguably, them at the gas station at night, could have been around as early as 9pm, or it could have been as late as 2am.

This is where I think a motel scenario could actually make sense, as we do have some time unaccounted for within that two day time jump.

According to the clock at the library, it was almost 4pm on Saturday that they got to Hawkins...

But if they left at 2AM on Friday, they would have arrived to Hawkins closer to 7-8am on Saturday... not 4pm...

This is literally the first line we get in the epilogue. Them saying 48 hrs makes it seem like it's probably closer to 48 than 26-31... meaning that the Cali crew could have unintentionally turned a 30 hour trip, to something closer to a 48 hr trip?

And this is also noting, that they left SB assuming that everyone was safe bc El saved the day. That was the impression El had up until they arrived in Hawkins on Saturday with Dustin informing them about Max's condition.

Which means it's possible they could have decided to rest for the night after the Vecna mind fight, since it was already so late, as opposed to driving right then and there. After all they've had a really rough last few days, so it would be plausible after a win like that, for them to make a unanimous decision to sleep in actual beds for the night.

So let's say, it was like 2am at the latest that they left SB and turned around and went back to the motel, which was still fairly close by, as they remembered it was near the gas station they just were at a few hours prior.

They would have probably left around checkout the following morning (usually around 11am) and started driving towards Hawkins, assuming all was well.

This would actually have them arriving to Hawkins closer to the late afternoon on Saturday, as opposed to the early hours on Saturday morning.

Basically, based on the distance between Nevada and Hawkins, it's quite possible there is at least an 8 hr sleep cycle happening outside of driving nonstop.

With all that considered, if i'm being honest, I'm not that confident about this theory anymore? It's likely the motel lot was filled with all of their equipment and vehicles, which obviously needed to be hidden from the gas station lot, which is what they were focusing on for those scenes. They would have had to clear that lot and move everything just to get an exterior shot for the motel, whether it was day or night. While it's definitely possible, idk I just doubt it.

Though, another angle I could potentially look at this still skeptically, is that if they were filming night scenes, I don't see why they would need the cast there like 5+ hours before any shooting even started? I feel like filming goes on for hours as it is? We even saw a lot of bts of them inside that gas station at night while they were filming, with Charlie and Finn sitting half asleep in chairs hand in hand jokingly, but clearly tired from hours of shooting into the night.

And so I don't know if it would make sense for them to have been there at like 12pm or even 2pm, hours before the sun was fully set, to sit around and wait for them to set up, not until dark which is like 8pm? Like that seems kind of odd to me. Especially if filming was believed to go into like the late hours the following morning, which is likely to have been the case since again we saw them look half asleep inside of the gas station location. Also ngl I always thought it looked like Noah had bags under his eyes during that gas station scene, which just fits even more with these scenes being filmed LATE at night, like well past midnight.

If they were filming until as late as 4am, I don't think they would have been there any earlier than 4pm the previous day. And that picture of them on set looked like it was taken in the afternoon. Maybe it was taken at 4pm exactly. Maybe they had to be on set 4-6 hrs before shooting started? I guess it's not impossible, but it would be quite unreasonable honestly.

Based on all of that, I can say that I'm sort of skeptical but also very open minded to it. Like I see the vision but also I'm not going to allow myself to get my hopes up too much. I'm just going to have fun theorizing about it regardless so I will continue to support others who still want to consider it! Because it is quite interesting!

Lucas

“Alright, we’re just gonna take it around the block. Slow. Careful. We’re in no rush.”

Lucas tapped Steve on the shoulder.

“Uh. Steve? Are you…talking…to your car?”

Steve looked behind him and up at Lucas from where he was kneeling on the ground in front of his car, one hand on the hood.

“She’s scared.”

“O…kay.”

Steve sighed and stood up, handing his keys over to Lucas.

“Just around the block. Slow. Careful. No rush.”

“I got it when you told the car.”

“You’re the first kid to drive her with my permission. She’s been through a lot. I don’t want to put her through too much stress.”

“She is just a car, right? Not a transformer or something?”

Steve rolled his eyes and got in the passenger side door, tense set to his shoulders getting worse when Lucas sat in the driver’s seat and started the car.

Lucas started the car, put his seatbelt on, adjusted the mirrors. Everything he knew from driver’s ed and what Steve taught him in their pre-drive lesson.

Of all the kids, Steve knew Lucas was probably the one who would be most careful and listen to him without argument.

None of that changed the fact that this was his car.

Lucas put the car in reverse, slowly removed his foot from the brake, and inched his way out of Steve’s driveway.

Steve watched every single movement of the car, felt like he had eight sets of eyes rotating around the car so he could see if Lucas struggled with anything inside, if any cars came out of nowhere on the road, if there was a random pothole that opened up in the last 30 seconds.

When they were completely on the road, Lucas put the car into drive, shifting just like he was shown, his feet gliding effortlessly over the gas and clutch.

It was smooth.

Steve took a deep breath.

“You’re doing great,” he said, his shoulders relaxing slightly as Lucas maintained the speed limit of the neighborhood and followed the line in the road perfectly.

“Can we go to Max’s?”

“Nope. Just here.”

“But I’m almost already at the end of the road. I need real life practice.”

“This is real life.”

Lucas sighed, but didn’t argue further.

Steve let him drive around the block twice before he told him to pull back into the driveway.

Once they parked, Steve let out the breath he’d been unintentionally holding.

“Is it that bad? I thought I did good,” Lucas asked as he removed his seat belt.

“No, you did great. Really. Just a lot of pressure.”

“On you? For what?”

“To make sure you guys are safe. I know your dad is gonna take you out a bit, but he trusted me with this today.”

“We went, like, 10 miles an hour.”

“People have died going slower.”

Lucas was a good kid, but he couldn’t help the laugh he let out at that.

“You’re worse than my mother.”

“Look, you got the first time under your belt, right? Let me be stressed.”

“Sure, Steve.”

Will

El was sitting in the backseat, tapping her fingers against the seat as some music played.

Hopper insisted that he teach her to drive, barely wanted to let Steve teach Will.

But Will was nervous, probably more than Steve was, so Steve let him listen to a few songs in the driveway before they got started.

“Is it normal to sit in the car for so long before driving?” El asked.

“It’s important that he feels comfortable, El. We can take as much time as he needs,” Steve replied, glancing over at Will, who somehow looked more pale and nervous than when they first got in the car.

“Maybe I should wait. It’s not like I even have a car to drive,” Will finally said a few minutes later.

Steve knew that Hopper had already planned on giving Will and El a car to share in a few months, but it was a surprise. He couldn’t ruin the surprise, but he had to get Will comfortable behind the wheel.

“I’m sure your mom will let you borrow her car sometimes. Plus it’s good to know in case of an emergency. Remember when Max nearly killed us all driving this thing? You don’t wanna be like her.”

“Also Dad got us a car,” El contributed from the back seat, immediately picking back up on humming along to the song like she didn’t just ruin the biggest surprise of the year.

“What?”

If anything, Will looked even more nervous.”

“El, that was supposed to be a surprise. How did you find out?” Steve asked exasperatedly.

“He is not very quiet when he is on the phone.”

Steve sighed.

“Alright. Well, even more reason to practice right? It’s gonna be easy! Just back out of the driveway, drive around the block, then park it again.”

Will nodded, but otherwise didn’t move.

“If you really can’t do this, we can just switch and I’ll take you back home. We can try again next week.”

“No! I can do it. I survived the Upside Down. Driving is nothing compared to that, right?”

Despite his words, his voice was shaky, like he didn’t quite believe them.

“It is very easy. I have driven many times,” El said happily from the backseat.

“What?” Steve turned all the way around in his seat. “Hopper said he wasn’t starting lessons with you until next month.”

“I did not drive with Hopper.”

“Who did you drive with?!” Steve could not think of a single adult who could be trusted to let El drive, and if Hopper found out…

“Eddie.”

Steve facepalmed.

“Do not tell your dad. He’ll throw Eddie in jail for endangering a minor.”

“That is silly!” El laughed. “I was not in danger. Eddie said he was the one in danger.”

“That sounds about right.” Steve shook his head and looked back at Will. “Okay. So at least you’re with me and not Eddie. You can do this, man.”

Will nodded and checked all his mirrors for the 12th time.

He put the car in reverse.

He slowly backed out.

A car honked from the road.

Will slammed on the brakes and put it in park.

“I’m never driving,” he said as he unbuckled and got out of the car.

“He will learn someday,” El said as she followed him out.

“I’m in hell,” Steve said out loud before joining them outside of the car.

Mike

“I don’t understand why I can’t listen to music louder.”

“Because this is your first lesson and we have to be able to hear each other and other cars,” Steve sighed.

He was not looking forward to teaching Mike, had practically begged Nancy to come back from college to do it.

She said that no one could pay her enough to teach Mike how to drive.

Steve wasn’t getting paid a damn thing and here he was anyway.

God, he wished Mrs. Wheeler would have let Eddie teach him.

“It’s just your neighborhood. There’s, like, five people counting you who live here.”

“And any one of them could drive by while you’re driving so just. Focus. Please.”

Mike rolled his eyes, but surprisingly let it go. Steve knew that just meant that he would be picking a new fight soon.

It’s not that Mike was difficult, it’s that his hormones decided to hit all at once and no one knew how to handle it, least of all Mike. Steve tried not to take offense to any of his attitudes, but he was already a bit stressed from the situation, so he couldn’t be faulted for his shortness.

Mike started to reverse.

“Nope. Park. You didn’t check your mirrors first.”

“I was going to once it was in reverse!”

“You check mirrors first, then reverse while checking all mirrors again. You know that.”

“You don’t check the mirrors before you reverse.”

“This isn’t about what I do or don’t do. You have to be taught properly so you can pass the test. You would’ve had points deducted.”

Mike rolled his eyes again.

That must cause headaches or vision problems or something eventually.

Mike checked the mirrors, then reversed, continuing to check each mirror as he backed onto the road.

His foot was a bit heavy on the clutch, but Steve didn’t say anything.

His foot was also a bit heavy on the gas, but he technically wasn’t speeding, so Steve stayed quiet.

He hit the curb in the cul de sac, and Steve winced.

“Remember to check your mirrors every once in a while to make sure you don’t hit a curb or go over the lines.”

“It was an accident!”

“I know! I’m just saying!”

They ignored each other for the remainder of the drive. Luckily, Mike did fine until he put it in park in the driveway.

He unbuckled, but didn’t get out.

“You did good, Mike. Just gotta make sure you’re safe,” Steve said softly, hoping it wouldn’t start anything, walking on eggshells like he so often found himself doing around Mike.

“Yeah. Thanks.”

Steve looked over at him, noticed how tense he was, how his eyes were shiny like he was trying to hold back tears.

“You wanna come inside and have a drink?”

“Beer?”

“No, just soda,” Steve snorted. “Your mom would kill me. Nancy would kill me.”

“I’ve had beer before.”

“But I didn’t supply it.” Steve noticed he relaxed a little. “So? I got some chips too.”

“Sure. Okay.”

They didn’t chat much while they enjoyed soda and chips, but any moment not arguing or on edge with Mike was good.

It felt good.

Dustin

Everyone stood around the car as Dustin sat in the passenger seat. His mom had been hesitant to let him come, had said multiple times that he could wait another year.

But he repeated it wasn’t fair that everyone got to learn except him, and Steve did take his side on it this time, agreed that it was better he know how to in case there was an emergency.

Claudia Henderson was no fool, but she was unable to resist Steve’s charm.

“I don’t understand why everyone is here for this,” Steve said, watching everyone back away from the car as Dustin adjusted the mirrors.

“No one believed I could reach the pedals.”

“Can you reach the pedals? I didn’t even think about that.”

Dustin glared at him for a second before continuing to adjust everything.

“Yes, I can reach the pedals, asshole.”

“How’s it going?” Max yelled from in front of the car.

“Just fine, thanks!” Dustin yelled back.

Max technically could see, but she was definitely not able to drive, so she just got to hear the stories of everyone’s lessons.

“You sure you’re ready for this? It’s okay to wait. None of them will judge you.”

“I said I’m ready!” Dustin exploded.

Dustin rarely reacted like that with Steve.

“Dude.”

“Sorry,” Dustin sighed, his grip on the wheel tight. “I just don’t wanna mess up in front of everyone.”

“I can send them all home right now. None of them watched anyone else.”

“No, I wanna prove I can do this.”

“Alright, bud. Ready when you are.”

Dustin adjusted a bit in the seat, checked his mirrors, and put the car in reverse.

Steve could tell he was having to sit up more than the others to reach everything, but he didn’t comment on it.

It was a smooth ride until the end.

He pulled into the driveway just a little too fast, then slammed on the brakes.

Steve’s head went forward, Dustin’s head went forward, and the kids outside were yelling something.

“Alright. Just one note. Maybe take it easy on the brakes.”

“Sorry.”

“It’s okay. You did good, dude. Proud of you,” Steve ruffled his hair and smiled at him.

He was proud of him. He was proud of all of them.

He was still worried, and he knew they all needed way more practice before they actually took their driving tests, but they all did good.

Steve probably developed gray hairs over the next month of lessons, especially when Mike drove over a curb on the road between his house and Eddie’s.

The kids sometimes showed up for each others’ lessons, in support and to make fun of their mistakes equally, but Steve usually shut it down quickly.

And when all of them passed their driving test on their first try, Steve threw a party that they all drove themselves to.

And when Will became a bit of a passenger princess in Mike’s car, and Dustin still called Steve for rides a couple times a week, and Lucas got pulled over for going too slow, Steve smiled to himself. No amount of lessons would change who they were.

It's been announced that the support band for the Australian shows will be Jimmy Eats World! I haven't heard of them (I'm sorry I literally don't know anyone) have you?

YES im so excited jimmy eat world are fucking amazing!! honestly i would not be surprised if you do know a song or two of theirs without realising - the middle and sweetness are both pretty iconic. also, jimmy eat world and my Chem go WAYYY back. craig aaronson (who would go on to become mcr's a&r guy) helped discover them. back when my chem were playing bars and vfw halls to crowds of like 10-30 people, maybe a few dozen max, jimmy eat world were headlining a music festival. coheed were meant to be on before them but they had to pull out and jimmy eat world offered my chem the spot last minute. i can't find the interview/s where they speak about it off the top of my head, but they were playing to a couple of thousand people so it was the biggest crowd they'd ever played by a long shot, and for mcr it was both a huge boost of confidence (they recount looking up and seeing the crowd bouncing to headfirst for halos and being absolutely psyched) and a genuine visibility boost that helped get their name out there when they really needed it. they often credit that show as their first real big break. here's this little article abt it that makes me crazy like ooogh they had no idea...

jimmy eat world's music also has quite a bit in common with my chem - they inspired my chem a lot and are really one of the bands that helped pave the way for a band like mcr to get a lot of radio play. clarity was like a hugely significant emo album that definitely influenced the course of the scene. also, the guys are just really decent dudes! one of the few interview appearances gerard's done in recent years was with the lead singer jim adkins for his podcast. they're super worth a listen - start with bleed american, it's a great album <333

Scream (1996)

Smoking: Splatter

So today definitely needed to be a review day. The holidays are coming up. That painful time of having to see family that you don’t want to. And putting on that face of “oh I’m happy to be here” instead of the inner turmoil of, I hate you all and wish I was at home smoking a BIG FAT BLUNT. But here we are.

Decided to do one of my favorite series Scream!

Ironic that I’m smoking out of a bowl I named splatter when we are about to see blood splattered. LOL. Sorry couldn’t resist.

Opening is with Drew Barrymore, Casey. I never really understood why she was in this movie. I felt like she could have been a bigger part than just the first death. I’m probably going to give away this movie. I don’t care. It has almost been out for 30 years, if you haven’t seen it yet your fault, get MAX and watch it lol.

Ironic that DB’s favorite movie is about a killer in a white mask stalking a person. When that is literally what is happening to her. Granted she’s not a babysitter, but still. And then she burns the popcorn... not cool.

Haha, big Sony TV that is on Channel 3. You know she was about to play a movie in the VCR. FLASHBACK 🤣

How has the fire alarm not gone off yet? The kitchen is full of smoke and the Jiffy Pop is literally on fire…maybe they took out the batteries because they needed to be changed and it was making that annoying ass sound 😂 oh there it is. Finally goes off after her parents get home. It so would have gone off sooner. Those things are annoying AF.

You would so need so much therapy after seeing your daughter strung up from a tree dead with her entrails just flowing to the ground.

SO a 90s film when you see Courtney Cox in a lime green/yellow skirt suit. Like you’d see that from space 😂

Love that Henry Winkler is in this movie. He’s so great ❤️

I will say that I get my own movie mentality off of Jamie Kennedy. He is very this is what happens in the movies. And if I was ever in a movie type situation, I would say the same things.

All I have to say is that freaking Scary Movie basically got this movie to a T! Freaking David Arquette being dumb. CC and her video guy. So just like the movie 🤣 it is also one of my favorites. The Waynes brothers are probably my favorite comedy people in the whole world!

Haven’t even mentioned Neve Campbell when she’s the main character lol. Sucks to be made out like you’re crazy. I know that pain.

I love Matthew Lillard, “I’m starting to feel woozy here!”

I do find it interesting that they think installing a curfew for the town would help reduce deaths. I mean HW was killed in the middle of the day. And then of course there is a party where people just get killed left and right. I do have to say that Rose McGowan’s death is probably my favorite.

I love how ML is just walking around in a fancy robe like he’s Hugh Hefner or something 🤣

If RM would have just calmed down, she would have fit through that doggy door. She was slim enough. And I doubt that that garage door would have been able to lift with that extra weight. I don’t think they would be that strong.

NC loses her virginity to her suspicious boyfriend Skeet Ulrich. Which according to JK is going to get her killed. And it looks like that’s what happens with who we all know to be ML comes in after they are done and “Kills” SU.

ML “peer pressure, I’m far too sensitive….my mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me.” 😂

I take it back. RM isn’t my favorite death. ML’s is. Death by tv to the face. Definitely a way to go.

it’s terrible for them out here.

armys aside though, you also have to look at jk too because to their credit, they didn’t know any of this would go down. I mean I certainly didn’t. joon has been the spokesperson for the group. he always said he doesn’t want to speak for the rest of the members, but I still believed the core value of not taking the easy road was just something they all agreed on. (taehyung said the same about people offering ways to get ahead and them declining) so for jk to come out and do everything I thought he’d be against was disappointing.

maybe that was on me being naive and believing that they all shared that value or on me thinking that I knew these men. well at least where artistic integrity is concerned anyway. armys are still absolutely hypocrites though because if all it took was for a member to do everything y’all said you were openly against to go back on your stance about industry manipulation, then y’all were never really against it in the first place.

mentioning olivia, because I was here for that g4u and butter head butt, the label aid that she got wasn’t even anything absurd? the dragging she got was real disproportionate. not going back on her starting off as an industry plant, because she was, but she puts in the work. she writes her songs and I think guts is a really solid sophomore album.

album versions were never the issue, it’s just when people release an exorbitant amount that’s obviously just geared for charting is when it gets ridiculous. taylor only has 3 for that re-record I think. personally, 4 for me is the max before it feels like someone is doing too much. jk had 11 plus how ever many exclusives he has in stores. but the remixes are the most irritating thing for me though, because the crucifying jimin went through for just 2, jk received no where near the same backlash from other solos or antis for his going on 30.

#also on the no writing bit for both jk and th for those two to be the main one to keep coming online teasing unfinished work #and saying they’re working on music just for their solo debuts to not be their own just came off as real pretentious to me #like what was the point of all of that then?

Tales from the Content Corner #1

I've been wanting to do a series for awhile where I talk about what its like being a wanna be content creator, I've seen so many people talk about tips and tricks and what stuff to buy but the actual social and mental health aspect? No body talks about it.

So whilst I would love to do a youtube or tiktok series on it all, I physically can't without ruining MY mental health cause I am simply too busy. But you know what I can do? Blog on tumblr like its 2012! Will this do good? NO! Am I going to advertise this anywhere else? PROBERBLY NOT! But I'm gonna do it and those who do see it might find it helpful.

With the context outta the way, let's get into the meat and potatoes of this post and my current mental crisis;

Feeling inadequate in comparison to others around you!

It's inevitable that, in any environment really, you will at some point start comparing yourself to your peers. In content creation though, I think its even worse than normal. It's like seeing the popular girl at school and wishing you were them, but instead of just your year group of something its thousands of people around the world.

Content creators only exist so long as people watch them. So to keep being content creators, to keep doing what we love to do, people need to watch us. It can be hard to get pass those first few weeks, or even months, when you first start and have 0 viewers.

What might be worse, though, is when you gain a substantial following and viewer base only for it to... disappear. And this happens to everyone, big and small, all at different time of their content creator journey. You see OG creators, like captn sparkles or inthelittlewood, who got millions of views every video just a few years back only to now a days get 20k.

My point is; lapses in growth or drops in views can happen to everyone at anytime. When your small tho, those drops feel so much bigger. You work so hard to get to 10, 20, 30 max views per stream only for it to suddenly disappear. It really sucks, but you can always come back from it, it just takes a lot of effort. Sometimes, having already worked so hard and lost it already, it makes creators not want to try anymore.

Algorithms constantly change, as do our lives, and when your not big enough to do content creation full time it becomes harder and harder to gain back that scrap of popularity. Or maybe you have yet to even get a boost to your following, maybe your new and are struggling to keep going when nothing seems to be working. It really sucks.

What makes it harder, and is the whole point of this post, is seeing others who feel so close to your level advance beyond you. I wouldn't call it jealousy, I personally feel so proud and happy when my mutuals grow and gain awesome opportunities, but it can be hard to watch. It can be hard to see them succeed and yourself not, it makes you wonder what your doing wrong or if you were even doing anything right in the first place.

So, how do you get through that?

Best advice I've found; learn from those around you, do what you can to improve and keep doing what you love doing.

Let's break that down real quick, starting with learning from those around you. It can be really helpful to deeply examine what other creators are doing to grow and try to figure out how it can make you grow. Don't copy people, obviously, but seeing what formats or things are helping others can be really useful when trying to grow yourself!

Doing what you can to improve really depends on your situation, we don't all have the money for a new mic or the time to spend editing daily tiktoks, its about figuring out what is attainable for you at the moment and doing what you can with what you have. You can also try to examine your own content from the perspective of a viewer -- if you were a chatter watching your stream, would you enjoy it? -- or getting feedback from others.

Lastly, and maybe most importantly, do what you love. If you love content creation, keep doing it! If it starts to drain you mentally, emotionally and even physically? It might be time to stop, or take a break. There's no shame in it, we all need breaks sometimes, and if you stop enjoying making content you don't have to do it anymore. So long as you enjoy what your doing that's all that really matters, even if it doesn't always seem that way.

In conclusion;

Learn from those around you, evaluate yourself and what you want to produce, prioritise your own health and remember feeling like this is incredibly normal, especially in the content creator space.

I'm not sure how often I'll be posting these, there are a lot of things I'd love to talk about to do with content creation and this has made me feel better about my own inadequacies, but we'll just have to see tehe.

I'm digging through my drafts lately so now the time has come to speak about movies that are like milestones for me:

Collateral (2004) dir.Michael Mann

I watched it for the first time in June 2021 and it became my hyperfixation, something I've been obsessed so much that... well, I literally LIVED that movie for about 4 months and I consider it changed my life's goals' perception❤️‍🔥 I've been reading all possible reviews, comments, interpretative theories... I wanted to wrote my own review and interpretation of the film.

(Just for those freaking abt actors: ppl who hate movies with Tom Cruise in it - usually make exception for the Collateral - and if THAT'S not convincing to you I don't know what is!)

Who would have guessed that the story about heartless hitman interacting with that poor random taxi driver has a potential to change a live perspective of a 35 years old person? Vincent is so inhumane I'm not even sure he deserves to be called a "character" (not more than a killer-cyborg probably) and what he says to Max about his attitude toward the world and his life and his dreams is so provocative and cruel but... it's all so freaking true. You are over 30 already and the time to act and to change your life and to fulfill your dreams is NOW! Now or never! *

Not to mention every next victim feels like another lesson in personal developement of Max (or any viewer sympathising with him), just like those lessons given to Scrooge by ghosts in A Christmas Carol. Yes, there are five of them instead of three but it's like the first case is: "wake up!" - the next: "this happens for Real!" - then "and there's nearly nothing you can do about it..." - and "...but you got to try anyway..." - followed by: "...because it's all about you right from the start!"

(One night you may need to turn your whole life upside down)

And I know some people see the last case as lame, cliche, unbelieveble, predictible or whatever - but jeez, ppl, that's how it works in a theater play! Of course it could have been predicted and so what?! It's the story about Max's character and in my opinion: that when he gets to know about his key role in all this - in a way similar to Bastian in The Neverending Story.

And I dare to say at this point it is not about any "love" or any such thing (here, take my AroAce filter): it's about a dream, that still is to be fulfilled, about a life, that could have been, about the right to be yourself and freedom to choose your way. About an urge to fight for something so important that you simply can't turn away from it anymore. About a need to defend something that feel so close and dear to you like it's your core, like it's yourself - like it was all about your life from the very beggining!

(And what if: maybe it all would never had happened if not for Max symbolic giving away his dream "island"?🤔)

I love how the provocative speech of Vincent to Max and all the uneasy questions he gives to him are meant to get him out of his comfort zone: your job is to take the client from point A to B, never before have you cared what they gonna do there, maybe all of them where going to kill or hurt somebody, so why did you not care about it ever before? Why would you care about it now? What the difference if the bad thing is happening close to you or far away from you? What's the difference if you do or do not know about it? And what actually changed in your case now - anything other than that now you know? In all this you are irrelevant, COLLATERAL, you are only a fucking meaningless, powerless cab driver! Look at you, you're not even the one to decide your own route! And if you decided to only always do your job without the second thought - then why don't you just do your fucking job right now?!

And then it's like: you can run from your problems and avoid hard decisions for just so long - there's literally no more place left to run and hide, and you got to face your greatest fear... To save a life.

Not your life though.

You'll be reminded it's NOT about you. That it's not your business. So you can simply step back and live. Just keep on being nobody, not having anything to say, not having any power over bad things happening around you. You'll be reminded that you're weak and you can keep the safe distance and remain comfortably numb just as you always used to be...

You could remain COLLATERAL

Only would you be able to live with knowing you haven't even tried?

As much as I hate guns IRL - I loved to learn about the "mozambique drill" (some fans probably breaking new record of rewatching "yo, hommies" scene over and over again) and reading other viewers' interpretations of what actually happen in the final shooting... and of why he could not or would not reload... (as a neurologist I'd vote it's bc of his brachial plexus) and finally thinking about the spontaneous act of previously non-spontanous character - winning over cold routine of the one always talking about "adapting to enviroment"... Like Max've won over him by actually learning his lessons!

This movie is filled with symbols and allegories. Starting with the silver gray Vincent: I like to compare him to a heartless cyborg T1000 from Terminator 2: The Judgement Day, or see him as an angel of death, or even - as mirror giving a dark reflection, like an evil alter-ego of the main character! (there's the allusion of policemen that a taxi driver might get rampage and kill ppl around the town - followed by Max's mother asking "Who?" like not noticing Vincent - to the point Max actually "acts" Vincent - all these priceless little hints that Vincent might not even exist in a first place...)

My own favorite interpretation is that Vincent is personification of a coyote - the spirit animal meant to teach you life lessons that are many times very uneasy but really rewarding

(And don't listen to director talking about Vincent, it seems to me that Michael Mann did not himself get any deeper meaning of this guy at all!😑 Like treating his past history seriously? Oh please, have mercy...🙄 Vincent's power derives from the fact he's so perfectly inhumane he barely touches the earth! Or at least he's the perfectly neutral transparent everyman... who's empty of emotions. And you can treat as a symbol of anything you want!😋)

The story takes place in the middle of the night - with the broad streets of the great town being almost empty - and it's such an unusual view it gives an almost dreamlike mood. Perfect time and place for a life-changing story about changing your life.

All in all this story is so brilliant someone definitely should have made a movie about it!

* What I mean by changing the life perspective: I can imagine it does not feel like this for everyone, if you have a partner, kids, a family - you may not have any thoughts like this. But I speak as a single person who was spending a lot time at work, many times for many years... Way too many times working much more than my married workmates were. I've been constantly staying later or replacing someone - because I could, because of not having children, because of not being in a hurry... Well, I guess everyone presumed I probably was not having any life on my own anyway, right? So I could and should always be the one to sacrifice and set prorities of others over mine... I've been told for all my life what I should be doing, what I must not be doing and so I tried all my life to live due to these expectations simply hoping to be resepected accepted. And still I feel like I never managed the higher level of acceptance just because I'm different, my interests are different, the way I'm spending my free time is different, I feel and think differently - so yeah, it's not even worth to ask me about my feelings or interests anymore, or to ask me to go out together, rather keep on looking down at me and treat me like a dumb kid... And so I gradually learned that no matter my struggle I always will be treated differently by that "heteronormative majority" of couples and families with kids...

And then came the COLLATERAL like katharsis, set my emotions free and gave me the sudden realisation: it's the fine time to think about myself! To quit living due to expectation of others, supressing what I love to do for so long, pushing all my creative passion for the forever "maybe later". Only because everyone tells me it's not the right time for that... So when the "righter" time will be?!

"Someday? Someday my dream will come? One night you will wake up and discover it never happened. It's all turned around on you. It never will. Suddenly you are old. Didn't happen, and it never will, because you were never going to do it anyway. You'll push it into memory and then zone out in your barco lounger, being hypnotized by daytime TV for the rest of your life."

Currently reading: idk, probably star trek fanfic my friend @rubbertplant was writing to give my opinion on it. i often read through my own stuff too lol, like whoah i wrote that??? ADHD has taken everything from me including my capability to read though, for real. ive been thinking of trying to listen to some audiobooks recently though, this cannot continue... its just that i also have no ears disease so idk how well that would go. determined to try though

Last song you listened to: havent been listening to music so much bc ive been playing videos instead but my last.fm has all my spotify listens so itll stay up to date on whatever i listened to last. currently seems to be “please play-bite” by pinocchioP. i often just let spotify play me whatever it recommends anyhow so theres variance. and i only started this account like a few months ago max so its not really a full picture of my music-listening

Last movie (in theaters): its not really a movie, but if it counts, the first ginga nagareboshi gin stageplay (recorded and released in finland in theaters with subs)

ginga was always huge in finland for some reason. idk. the anime is so violent though that i got really afraid of bears for some reason. theres so much blood... i never read the manga either i just knew of the anime and partook in my share of wolf roleplays (dogs were uncool! so i didnt do dog roleplays. iirc that really was my reason).

2010. one of the first things i coloured digitally... i painstakingly cleaned the scanned pencil lineart with a mouse

2011. i had gotten my first drawing tablet as a birthday/xmas gift and practiced a ton around this time (more than just wolves lol)

Last series I watched: trigun stampede. even changed my phone bg into vash... but millions knives is probably my favourite. he just does everything wrong and makes his life worse. and everyone elses life too bc he sucks. but hes multifaceted so hes also my meow meow and whatever. i hope a ford explorer drives over him

if it counts though, ive seen some star trek TOS episodes and movies because my friends have been watching them. im not super into it but its always fun to hang. i also dont watch a lot of stuff. i dont even know what i do. guy who doesnt read or watch things but listens to jerma videos on youtube without actually looking at them while i “draw” and “write”

Craving: food honestly. i should cook something lmfao. i also want soda so bad but i dont have any. id make some tea but its disgustingly warm in my house so i only want cool drinks. could kill for a nice milkshake or a smoothie rn i think

Tea or coffee: tea... im the only finnish person who doesnt drink coffee for real. also got really into loose leaf tea bc i befriended a chinese lady who is really into tea and has a tea shop in the city near where i live

Currently working on: drawing this and trying to think how i want to do it. somehow want to incorporate flat colours and maybe shade his body naturally, and make the blood look realistic instead of flat colours... hmm not sure yet what i want to do

other than that im trying to proofread the chapter of my ryanyuri fanfic i already published because theres a lot of typos and strange sentences in there but its been a chore bc my body breaks down when it gets too warm smfh... not looking forward to when my apt goes over 30 degrees celsius it is unlivable. im also trying to complete a “lookbook” of my tnb sims. but i always start huge projects that take three million years to complete and im really slow lmfao

write whatever makes you fall in love with writing again! whether it be a super sappy/cringey trop that makes your knees buckle, do it! :)

I just got home from an AMAZING weekend in DC and wanted to share my Bastille experience before passing out for like two days (I think I got max 5 hours of sleep the entire weekend). One of my best friends flew in from NYC and we spent all of Saturday just exploring, then Sunday we got in line in front of Anthem at around 10:30am. I was #21 in line according to the number drawn on my hand by this awesome girl Sarah I met who was #2. She wrote numbers on the first 50 people’s hands which really came in handy later on. Shout out to Anthem event staff for having tables set up outside with free water. At around noon I turned around and spotted Kyle, Dan, Woody, Charlie and Beau power walking by towards the loading dock for the tourist ferry and a couple of us walked over to see if we could catch them. Dan took a photo with a woman who had a kid in a stroller, and then he grabbed his food and drink and was heading back towards the ferry entrance and I said hello to him. He actually made a beeline right for me and said hello back and asked me how I was doing. I wanted to ask for a photo but Beau told us they were already late for the ferry but that they would come back, which was a lie because they did not come back lmao. After 2 hours of checking the pier every so often we decided they got dropped off somewhere else since the line out front of the venue was growing.

I did the GMTF experience, so at around 2:40ish two ladies came out with the lanyards and some collectible pins and checked us all in. There were a surprising amount of people who bought the experience and the soundcheck + Q&A was only an hour long so sadly the question I submitted didn’t get asked. There were some really funny ones though that I’ll post individually. Our soundcheck songs were Blame, Grip and Club 57. When the experience was over there was some drama with the line outside, since the event staff that had witnessed us all getting numbers written on our hands in the morning had selective amnesia. We ended up taking matters into our own hands because those of us who’d shown up in the morning all became friends, and no one was monitoring the line outside so we all got in with the GA people since the ones who’d shown up early in that line got numbered too. All in all, when we were let back in later I ended up one row back from the barrier which was perfect. The show was absolutely AMAZING, and it was so good to be at a live show again for the first time since the pandemic started.

After the show, I followed some new friends I’d made out to the alley next to the venue that was gated off. The buses were parked on the other side of the alley to the right, but one of the people I’d met said that the last time they played at Anthem the spot we were standing at was the spot they’d come out to take a group photo so we waited around. Not even 3 minutes after we’d sat down, here comes Dan still sweaty from the show and wearing a different shirt with ANOTHER shirt clutched in his hand. He looked like he was on a mission, so we just said hello to him and he said hello back without stopping. He turned right and headed down the main Wharf walkway BY HIMSELF AT NIGHT. Five minutes later, here comes Dick who kept stopping to look at his phone and was sending texts - probably trying to figure out where tf Dan went. Dick eventually went back in the direction he’d come from and then maybe 20-30 minutes later we see Dan walking the other way down the Wharf walkway wearing yet another shirt. Leave it to Dan to get temporarily lost in DC at night by himself. We all waited outside for a few hours, but then realized the tour bus had left so we called it a night and headed back to the hotel. All in all, it was a great experience and I met SO many awesome people while in line. Bastille fans are the best, hands down.

Wasn't Schumacher disqualified from an entire season because he crashed into Villeneuve in an attempt to push him off track? The stewards said he did it on purpose and was no incident, so he was disqualified. And that despite Schumacher saying he didn't do it on purpose.

Max admitting that he pushes drivers off track on purpose and threatens that he'd rather crash than give position should have repercussions imo.

He's already brake-checked a driver and instead of being disqualified only got a penalty. Things like this only encourage him to keep doing this. Even RB said he'll have a short career (and after Singapore I kinda agree? What kind of driver hates a race because... he had to race?) and I think it's because he doesn't enjoy racing, only coming out ahead. That's why he pushes drivers, overtakes them under SC (last case: Norris in Singapore, I think? and wasn't even investigated), storms off the paddock after one qualifying session doesn't go his way.

The only times he seems to enjoy racing is against Charles... but only when he's basically got the wdc in the bag and Charles isn't an actual threat anymore (example: Austria).

I don't know, last year I sort of admired him because he was challenging a 7 time wdc. Then all the incidents happened, the brake-checking, in one occasion Hamilton would've died without the halo. After Max pushed Hamilton off track in Brazil and the FIA didn't give him a penalty + refused Mercedes' appeal to investigate, everyone in the motorsports world was worried: is it now permitted to push drivers off track?

In a way, I'm glad Ferrari wasn't more competitive this year and basically gifted Max the wdc. Except for the first few races, Charles was never a threat to Max. Next year, if Ferrari is better, I'm terrified of all the crashes that could happen.

This ask seriously baffled me a little bit.

So the Schumacher example doesn't apply here because believe it or not circumstance matters.

This is in no way comparable to anything Max has done recently for many reasons.

The first is this isn't a driver squeezing another on the exit of a corner as is common practice this is Schumacher actively steering into Villeneuve with the intent of crashing. No other intent only crashing.

Drivers squeeze to compromise the other guys line but that isn't what's happening here and it is very obvious.

Secondly, this was the second time that Schumacher crashed on purpose in the last race of the season to win the wdc. Something none of the current drivers have ever done.

This I do not understand. So you have an issue with Max saying he squeezes people and therefore he should be penalised because he said it? And Charles for example shouldn't be penalised for doing the same thing because he doesn't say he does it?

How does that make sense?

The entire idea about squeezing someone is that you are pushing them into yielding because otherwise they'd crash. They all do it! That's not a Max thing!

And about Max hating racing.. we are really running with something he's said in an interview immediately after he's had a shit race are we?

If he hated racing so much you'd think he'd have said it after one of the many races where he's started further back. Or even Silverstone.

Maybe it isn't all about winning but maybe he was just angry that he fucked his own race? Ever thought about that?

MAX ISN'T THE ONLY DRIVER THAT MAKES THOSE MOVES. WHEN WILL PEOPLE FINALLY ACCEPT THAT!

So the battles that both of them enjoyed at the start of the season don't matter anymore?

Obviously they all enjoy battling for the win more than they enjoy battling for 5th. Everyone would.

Charles and Max also like battling each other because both have a similar level of aggression. And knowing the other won't back down makes things a bit more predictable. And they like it.

This idea that Max is some huge liability on track is insanity! And y'all can't grasp the idea that new cars can change things and that drivers now have more than one chance to pull a move and we see less dumb moves. And that Max hasn't done anything remotely dangerous this season and so you cling on the Mick incident like it was the worst driving by anyone this season.

The way that you are cherry picking Max incidents can be done about every single driver. Because they have all done stupid things before. But it's only Max you are doing it to? Why?

If we were to see many crashes between Max and Charles then I assure you it wouldn't be a one sided thing. Because even just looking at their past it was never a one sided thing. They've both been responsible before and that wouldn't change.

Just stop with this idea that Max is some safety liability. This need to focus on Max when all the others are pulling the same moves is just weird.

“the top 5?” damn this was a little more difficult to remember right at the top of his. pulling out his photo he looked at all the apps on his screen. “ah!” he said as the light bulb turn on in his head. “let’s start with number 5.” he said with a grin “number 5 would probably kkt” surprising right? since that should had been number 1. “number 4 maybe youtube. I like watching these video but I sometimes don’t have enough time to watch the long videos that why number 3 is tiktok. the videos are shorter and I can probably scroll through 30 videos within 15 minutes.” keeho laugh, did that make him sound like he just really scroll through everything quickly. “number 2 instagram. I dont have an account but I like to look at our company account. and number 1 is spotify. I listen to music 24/7. when I wake up during practice while eating and even during a nice shower. music is my life.” but was that really a big surprise?

q: what is the most random note in the notes app?

“most random?” eh repeated the question as he opens up the notes app. “my notes apps are usually filled with things I need to remember.” he said. there were plenty of notes from things like what he needed to pick up at the store to what he was planning on doing with his parents when they were going to be in town for the family concert. “oh maybe this one...’keeho you handsome dog 😉’...” reading the random note only made him laugh, exactly why was that there he doesn’t remember. “please dont ask me why. just know..it’s the truth”

q: what was the last message or call you’ve received and who was is from?

“the last called was from my mother. they’re visiting with my little brother during the week of the family concert. it will be the first time in a long time that I will get the chance to see them.” keeho smiled at the thought of seeing them again. sure when he first moved to korea he was enjoying that freedom away from his parents but as time passed he started to miss them more and more. even his mother’s nagging. “the last text...” he said as he pressed on his message and the first name was “jisoo, my homie. I miss him, but we’re pretty busy these days. so getting the chance to text one another is pretty nice just to catch up or talk about something funny.”

keeho listen to music 24/7. his favorite song changes so sometimes he randomly likes to things to mark down his favorite songs of the day in his notes. “ the first one I want to mention is it’s you by max ft keshi.” keshi was really one of keeho favorite indie artist. “next I have to say is high school in jakarta by niki. then we have type zero’s song hala hala.” for the obvious reason that he was suppose to perform to it. but maybe in another life he will. “then we have vna’s rock with you. and crystallis butterfly.”

“i’ve searched myself a couple of times.” he admitted with no shame. its normal for people who are up and coming to search about themselves right? keeho wants to see what people were saying about him so a lot of them where about finding out who he was “the 1st is the obvious ‘han keeho’. just wanted to see if the number of searches on my name ever goes up. the second one is probably ‘lgc trainee keeho.’ I guess this search pulls up a lot of my trainee stuff that’ve done like the pepsi campaign.” he smiled proudly talking about his achievements. “then there’s also..is han keeho performance - mostly to watch my performance from the fans view. then I did a quick search of future dream contestant to see the viewers opinion and the last one was probably ‘who’s the most handsome idol’ - trying to scope out my competition you know.”
