#I get asked about merch sometimes and yes it's something I think about every now and then #but I'm not sure how that would go #small businesses are a lot of work #I'm forgetful and get overwhelmed really really easily #I'm a socially awkward introvert so I reckon I'd have challenging time on the customer service side of things #but it's not a hard no maybe I manage to get gutsy enough in the future who knows #would honestly love to design some stickers pins or patches #been considering it for a few years already weh #answered #anonymous #I'm worried people would be put off by the Finnish shipping fees. our postage rates are pretty high unfortunately #and not to get too deep into it but I also have some internal ideological rules about what kind of objects I want to put out into the world #it'd have to be good stuff I don't want to sell people anything that would become junk in five years if I can avoid it

Watcher fans sure are entitled and a little insane, ngl. "No one is going to sign up for your service! We're all poor! You've made the worst decision, and you'll be back in no time!" Saying this directly to the creators really reminds you of how low the respect for people you don't personally know has gone. I miss the forth wall between creator and audience.

I get and fully understand not having the money to support them, but... Watcher does have fans with money. A lot of them actually. They have merch sales. Their live tour sells out most venues. They have thousands of supporters on Patreon, where the cheapest tier is $5. They're able to gauge the rough finances of their staunchest supporters; that's how they landed on the subscription price. Yes, this move will reduce their viewership in sheer numbers, but to say all of their fans are broke and none will follow/support is factually incorrect.

It may not be a decision everyone agrees with, but severing the limitations of advertisers and youtube in favor of artistic freedom is a good thing. Yes, even if it comes with a loss of revenue. They understand that risk.

Also, I'm begging people to stop treating this like "another Netflix" or something and instead look at it as, "I am supporting a creator I like, similar to Patreon." They literally said in the video that they don't care if you share accounts. Get five friends, and you'll pay $1/mo.

I hate feeling compelled to rant in favor of their decision because I have my own reservations about whether it's the best move. However, I know it's not a choice they made lightly, and I like to think they understand that they'll need to branch out like crazy to entice subscribers.

#Fair-weather fans #I speak as someone currently undecided if I'll sign up for their service or not #I have my own budget to consider #But the waves of people poor-mouthing AT Watcher directly is ridiculous and embarrassing #“They're underestimating how many of us are poor”#Okay but that's not how business works #They just need enough people who aren't poor #and they may well have those numbers #Do you think they would have made such a drastic decision if they didn't???#If they want to focus on fans who support them even if their hard work isn't free that's their choice #People are trying to be so anti-capitalism on this they've actually circled back around to saying #“Just take ad revenue from these companies so they can profit off your content and I don't have to pay out of MY pocket.”#That's... that's not the anti-capitalism stance you think it is #Maybe (and this is crazy) asking for a few dollars directly instead of through the vehicle of youtube‚ google‚ and all its advertisers is #... not spitting on the fans?#Please stop trying to guilt small content creators to their face while simping for large corporations #Watcher

I really really wish people didn't smoke tobacco. Or at the least, didn't smoke cigarettes. The warning labels on the packages and doors don't do anything.

That's all they see. At most, it's a joke to them. Something to gawk at.

But in a purely anticapitalist lens, 6 companies own essentially all tobacco. This includes most non-tobacco nicotine products, like vapes or Zyn.

People don't realize that companies have VERY little control over prices of Cigarettes and dip. Sometimes they don't tell us to change a price for months. A year, even. Other times, they make us change it three days in a row. Sometimes it's up 10¢, 50¢, or an arbitrary amount. Once it even went down 3¢ one day then the next up 18¢.

We have to change all of the signs. Every time.

And we also have to suffer people getting angry over a price change.

We make 2-10¢ per pack of cigarettes.

They cost minimum $8.99.

$3.33 of that is State tax.

At most, we profit 1% of the cost the customer pays. It exists solely to increase foot traffic. Which is good, but is like kinda ridiculous when you realize we make more on a single Bic sale than we do on 10 cigarette pack sales.

OUR CARTONS OFTEN DON'T EVEN SAVE YOU MONEY ANYMORE. If we wanted to create an artificial savings, we'd have to manually increase our own profit by raising cigarettes even further (which we are, again, limited by) but we don't want to fuck over our customers even more and lose even more business.

And what's even fucking crazier, is that bigger chains get better contracts and are allowed to sell their cigarettes for significantly cheaper, fucking over every small business. Why the hell would people stop by our shop when they can go to Dollar General and grab a pack of cigarettes for a buck+ cheaper.

Oh, and our contract limits our sales even more bc we aren't allowed to have ANY cigarettes cheaper than Lucky Strikes, which are 9.49. how did we get one down to 8.99, you definitely ask?

Well, we add a 50¢ coupon onto it, provided by the cigarette company. A legal grey area in the contract.

I feel so black pilled by this anti competitive shit, it's so anti small business.

EDIT:

For those too dumb to get it, my problem is with toxic contracts, gov lobbying by big tobacco, artificial competition, and corrupt politicians enabling it, as well as policies.

I am not an anarchist, though I do agree with some ideals and like listening to what they think, which is why I tagged them.

I am not a communist, and, like Anarchism, I do agree with some ideals and enjoy listening to their perspective, again which is why I tagged communism.

I am a socialist, and I am anticapitalist. Anyone who opposes anti-capitalism is pro capitalist, and is anti-human. Capitalism has killed more than any other ideology.

I need people to understand that some service dogs are small. When most people picture a service dog, it's a lab, or a german shepard, or a standard poodle, or other big dog, working as a seeing eye dog or helping somebody with mobility imparements, and a lot of service dogs do look like that.

But some service dogs, for example medical alert dogs, can be tiny. In fact some of the smaller breeds are noted for having the hyperfocus on "their" human that is essential to being a good alert dog. My seizure alert dog is a maltese. I get accused of trying to sneak my pet into places all the time, or have people insist she must really be an emotional support dog. I'm not, she's not, and she does important work in keeping me safe. Respect small service dogs.

Convention season is fast approaching and we've been hard at work on our new items for 2024. Here's a look at our new foil prints! We've got a classy greyscale print of Kiki's Delivery Service finished with red foil to add to our Ghibli line up, a print of Baiken also finished with red foil to add to our Guilty Gear line up, and a much requested print of Matrix also with red foil to add to our Reboot line up.

Also! We're trying something new this year and finally producing two original foil arts. These will be in a smaller format and we'll expanding the series if these sell well.

We'll be at Toronto Comicon in a couple of weeks (March 15-17 2024, table A1102) and Fanexpo in Toronto later in the year (August 22-25, Table TBA) - stay tuned for more details and any other convention announcements!

Prints will go in the online store between conventions; I'll announce that here as well.

Is it ok if we print some of your artworks? Not to sell them or profit by them in any way, just for decorative reasons.

Also, I know you don't have a shop where we can buy any prints/stickers/anything (if you did I wouldn't even consider printing them by myself) but have you ever thought of actually making one? Maybe, if not your own shop, sign up(?) on inprnt or something?

Sure! If you just want to print out my art so you can stick it on your wall or something, go ahead. (As long as it's just personal non-commercial use and you're not claiming ownership over the artwork or the characters).

I used to have a Society6 shop but I closed it last year, mostly due to changes in their terms of service. They were cutting into artists' already meager profits, and the last time I heard of it, they were planning to add a subscription fee on top of that. It just started to feel a little bit exploitative. (I also had read some reports that the quality of some of their products had gone downhill over the years but I can't attest to that).

I already have an Inprnt account waiting in the wings, but I haven't gotten around to adding any prints to it yet. (Are there any specific pieces you'd potentially be interested in? I know people ask about the 'You cannot eat money' one pretty frequently.)

Hi! My name is Jonah, and I own Lucy Goosey Crochet Pet Products! I am a queer, disabled, DID-having service dog user who makes crochet pet products! I was inspired by my service dog Lucy, and her large size and awkward proportions that make traditional service dog gear difficult to size her for accurately. Eventually I had the idea to crochet her service dog vest, which worked quite well. This led to the idea that I could make dog clothes for other peoples dogs as well! I make service dog gear, yes. But I also make bandanas, blankets/"place" mats, leashes, vests, and traffic leads for non-working dogs as well! This blog and my business have no DNI, as I believe that everyone should have access to quality pet products, especially disabled service dog users.
