I have a very general ask to rattle off before I leave the house!! I've been revolving the idea of sending this in my mind for a few days, but I think that last post you reblogged is a sign that I should just do it XD Because it kind of relates to my questions... sorry if it seems disjointed, I'm sort of rushing to get it out of my system ^^

When you imagine anything with your F/Os, is it you you that you're picturing? Or like. An idealized version of yourself? Is anything about her different or is she just straight up *you*? I've had this image in my head for so long of someone who thinks like me, but looks and acts quite different - almost like an OC. I think I'm getting a bit better about this though, I've been working on making my Sim self and it's helping 😅😅

From looking through this blog, it seems like you usually imagine your F/Os with you in the real world? Do you ever imagine yourself in their universe? For me I almost always imagine myself as a character in their universe!

I'm still warming up to the idea of F/Os... but for as a long as I can remember I've had daydream scenarios with soooo many different characters over the years. But I always just considered them maladaptive daydream scenarios 🙈🙈🙈 I LOVE the enthusiasm you have for your F/Os, though!! <3

All of them: Some weird in-between world set in London with Cruella. Somehow the other 3 live there too now in this one 😅

All of them: Variant of same in-between world except I live in Maine with Jim because I l o v e the idea of living near a lake or in the bush/woods or something- I swear, if I could live out in the sticks I'd never be anxious ^^ Usually in this one, Otis lives in the basement XD

All of them: Different variant of same in-between world except I just live in Aus this time and am upholding 4 different long distance relationships 🤣 XD

Jim: The Lake Placid universe. Yes, I imagine myself in the universe! ^^ I'm not a character in the story, though, I generally imagine I'm cursed or the multiverse glitched or something and I ended up dropped in the last fictional universe I watched on TV XD So I'm just there, knowing e x a c t l y what happens and when in this story but keeping my mouth sealed s h u t about it (*cough* while shooting my shot with Jim) XD

Jim (Variant): At the moment I'm playing with a variant of this one where a version of me does already exist in the Lake Placid universe when I get there- and she's a... shall we say... adult movie star XD 🤣 Its fun!

Otis: The H1000C universe. Same as the Lake Placid one above. I end up in this universe at Spaulding's petrol station with a friend from the real world (Who either knows the story or doesn't- both can be equally fun cuz I'm either freaking out with them or freaking out for the both of us XD) and get wrapped up in the story with the main victims while trying to get the hell out before Otis sees me cuz n o I don't wanna get m u r d e r e d thank you very much-

Any of them: Switcheroo. They get dumped in t h i s (o u r) universe/timeline. And I have to keep them hidden so no one recognises them as their actor in public.

Any of them: Switcheroo Variant. We both end up in a separate universe and have to work together to get the hell out. Catch? This universe already has a version of them (A different character by the same actor. For example if the focus F/O is Jim it could be the ANOES universe. Or if the focus F/O is Otis, it could be Texas Chainsaw Massacre! XD) and possibly a different version of me as well and we have to avoid meeting/making eye contact with these other versions in order to avoid a fault in the space time continuum or whatever 😅 (And also avoid other problems that might come along with meeting characters like Freddy Krueger or Inkubus or Chop Top Sawyer🙃)

So yes... I do like to use the real me in my F/O fantasies (feels more personal for me ^^) but its not always the real world XD Its not always their fictional world. A lot of the time its just random 😅 Its completely up to you individually what you do with your daydreaming! ^^ It is s o so individual and self indulgent.

Me again, a follow up question. While I know it's pretty much impossible to have a perfect transposition from greek to latin alphabet, I'm trying to have at least some kind of ruling. This said, would you transpose κ as a english "K" (harsh sound) or "c" sweet sound. Ex, Αλκιμεδων is Alkimedon or Alcimedon or whatever? Thank you

That's a great question. The truth is that the transliteration of Greek to Latin characters is terrible because even though the closest letters are chosen, these letters often have different sounds between the two alphabets. The problem is aggravated by the fact that English especially took a lot of Greek words via their Latin version and not directly and by the reliance on the popular Erasmian pronunciation which is questionable on so many levels (and ugly), to say the least.

Grasping the opportunity provided by your example, there is not a soft c in Greek at all. Never has been. The closest one by sound is σ (σίγμα) which is the equivalent of s. There is only κ (kappa) which is a harsh k. The frequent usage of c in words of Greek origin probably only means that these words have made a passing through the Latin language first.

But not just that, d is considered the equivalent of δ but the latter hasn't been pronounced as d for a couple millenias and even when it did, it was still softer than the modern d of the latin alphabet languages.

So the correct way to transliterate Αλκιμέδων to the Latin alphabet is actually Alkiméthon. The problem here is that Greek has two entirely different letters for the two ¨th¨ sounds, whereas English doesn´t. Some transliterate δ as ¨dh¨, as a solution of sorts. This would turn it into ¨Alkimédhon¨.

But because there are so many problems, there are no established rules. I believe the transliteration that should prevail now is the one that follows as accurately as possible the living pronunciation. Pre-hellenistic pronunciations are just theories after all.

So how I would transliterate is:

β as v (not b)

γ as gh (not g) before the consonants and the vowels α, ο, ω, ου and as y before the vowels ε, αι, η, ι, ει, οι, υι

δ as th or dh (not d)

η, ι, υ, ει, οι all as i

θ as th

κ as k

ξ as x or ks (not gz)

σ, ς as s or even as ss in the middle of a word because it is a little more “snaky” than the English s

φ as f or ph

χ as h or kh. Maybe that's how it should be written even before another consonant (i.e χρόνος - hrónos or khrónos as the more popular ¨chronos¨ is often mispronounced as kronos)

ψ as ps, but remember that both consonants are voiced unlike in English where the p is silent.

ω as o

αι as e since this has been the pronunciation for so long

ου as u or ou although I visually don't like the latter. Some use the oo which is not all that wrong but it looks utterly horrendous.

γγ, γκ as ng in the middle of the word, as g in the beginning or if it appears more than once in the word.

μπ as mb in the middle of the word, as b in the beginning or if it appears more than once in the word.

ντ as nd in the middle of the word, as d in the beginning or if it appears more than once in the word.

τζ as tz and not j, as it is a thinner sound.

τσ as ts and not ch, as it is a thinner sound.

This is more or less the transliteration that lately is used for Modern Greek. Those chaotic differences are the reason a Greek woman might tell somebody her name is Thanái and they won't realise she's telling them her name is Danae. XD

Now even though this is more correct I acknoweldge that visually the inaccurate transliteration is often more aesthetically pleasing or maybe it's because we are used to it. Take as example the verb for "skin, peel" :

γδέρνω is gderno in the usual transliteration but it is ghthérno in the more accurate one. The funny thing is that ghthérno looks terribly ugly but it sounds far more delicate and pretty when spoken than the inaccurate but better looking gderno XD

It's a mess what can I say. I have sometimes received some mild criticism for retaining the latin version of Greek words i.e I write Ευρυδίκη as Eurydice instead of the more accurate Evrithiki. Just for visual aesthetics. Honestly Evrithíki sounds nice when you say it but it looks so ugly in latin characters ffs I am so sad about this XD.

The latest example is that I wrote "Andronicus Palaeologus" even though I should have written "Anthronikos Paleologhos". And yet I believe that the latter sounds better than the former. Still, even if it's visually better, Idk, I think we should opt for accuracy especially in more "official", serious circumstances. Unless it looks much uglier and pronunciation doesn't matter in a certain situation so in this case we can show some understanding :P

First, she had to order herself a cocoa with marshmallows and cream, sprinkles and a little gingerbread man, along with a slice of fudge cake. She has one go-to order in the winter season, and this is it. The girl over the counter even knows it by heart, it’s great.

Settled down in a booth a little out of the way, Lizzy felt she could b r a v e looking at Damon’s face, and telling him what she’s had explained to her. There’s a table between them. She can run first if she has to- she doesn’t. She really couldn’t be safer and we all know it.

“Okay. Okay, uh,” She’s n e r v o u s. For someone who has burst into tears in front of thousands of people on stage, this is h a r d to talk about.

“It’s no secret, that you’re a big bad scary vampire.” She started t h e r e. “Before… I even k n e w I was your child, I was given a l l these stories of-” She didn’t want to go through it. “Well. Damon had tried to at least gather his thoughts as he ushered her into the coffee shop, afforded even more time as they ordered their drinks. This was the last piece of the puzzle for him, his murders, and apparent sprees. Both hands slid around the warm white mug in front on him, he studied the foam for a moment before addressing her again.

"First, I am a menace at best. Barely ranking in the top ten of your extended family tree if I had to guess. I'm not a saint and I don't have mushy feelings about humans - my philosphy is don't shit where you eat but if some random ends up dead well they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. The man kept it conversational as he listed off his sins, not exactly flippant, but no where near defensive about it. He felt no shame or remorse when it came to these particular actions. Damon was a vampire, sometimes that meant he killed people for food, but he wasn't a ripper.

Even his stint of no humanity he'd barely left a body count to be commented on. Flipping the humanity switch didn't make every vampire automatically an idiot. It had been easy to control himself because he liked where he was partying, you kill too many people and you have to move on. No reason to mess up a good thing.

"No Lizzy, the beast inside of you? The thing you fear?" Damon leaned forward, blue eye never more serious then when he meant hers in that moment. "That sounds like Stefan."
