we can’t really take a break cause our boys continue to spoil us, from career updates and potential candies. as if yibo’s whole day update attack wasn’t enough, our dearest gege comes in to show his beauty. i’m glad that his team decided to release that. xz is all about that positive vibes and it should continue to be that way. ✌🏼

so what are the things we noticed?

• The photos uploaded were 16, which is a lot more than his usual posts. What a nice coincidence, because today yibo-official shared a video about the times Chen Yu said “report!” in the past five episodes. How many? 16. More on the significance of this number here.

• The 3 dots (...) which fandom’s interpretation of i miss you. well, shouldn’t be for long cause they are now— finally in the same city. 🙏🏼

• In the original Ad for YSL, what GG was trying to catch was the product and not a mic. We don’t know the whole concept of the shoot or if it was edited. Trying to catch a mic? Well the same thing happened to Bobo in today’s SDC 5 episode. When he was trying to catch ( i don’t know what it’s properly called ) it, which helps his mic and for him to be heard. Who will know that will happen aside from people in that closed set? Or if someone told them it happened? Maybe Bobo told him about it. Or maybe, SDC 5 had another special visitor this year 😏

• Yibo’s signature move was seen in the Captain Big Show performance. He does this and it’s always just him, and the one time he performed it with someone’s help? with his GG. It just shows Bobo’s trust to GG and his effort to include him in the things that he loves. The Happy Camp episode is really a candy staple but it’s a reminder of why the moment back then says so much. Everyone knows Yibo is an amazing dancer and I’m sure GG would be happy to let him do his thing and he will just cheer, but Bobo shared it with him. That what I love about them, they wanna involve the other in what they are doing. It’s really a happy and healthy household 💕

• This was shown in the preview for the next episode so we don’t know the full context. but Bobo mentioned his power being invisibility. It’s still the one he wants and it’s the same thing GG does too. I explained over it over here.

• I already spoke about 6KKI before but something we noticed is that the pendant is a heart. but has another heart drawn it with lots of dots on the side. It so reminiscent of the heart with a mole.

• The primary sponsor of Weibo Movie Night that Bobo will be attending is SAIC AUDI. Lol. What a coincidence that their Spokesperson is the love of his life 💕

• Yibo-Official posted so late today, just in time for Bobo and his team’s arrival home. The number is 22:50 but if we use 12 hr time it should be 10:50. Also there is just one photo from the back that clearly shows the Hibiscus— which is every turtle’s favorite reference lately. Is he showing it off? like, if anyone was doubting what kind of flower it is, he is making sure people know by sharing a really clear photo? 🌺

This shot too. There is something about it. I’ve look at an unhealthy amount of Yibo photos and I have seen his “look” when he stares at a camera. Especially in a professional settings like this and he has to be all “Captain Yibo” mode. But this one. hmmm. or maybe i’m thinking too much. I’m not confirming anything that GG was there or whatever and i know it’s not logical to have GG roaming around ( well he could if he was in disguise ) but just look at Bobo’s face. CPN or not, well, it’s a beautiful face.

Why I am really concerned about Wang Yibo’s weight

Hi there.  Those of you that know me and my work know how much I love Wang Yibo.  So this post is coming from a place of love.  Like many of you, I waited with anticipation each day to see new photos released this week to promo his new song Rules of My World.  I woke up at an ungodly hour just so that I could watch him perform it live on New Year’s Eve.

I watched with equal parts pride, joy, and devastation when I saw Yibo perform that song.

I was so proud of him for once again writing his own powerful lyrics to describe his world - "I am the way I am.”  “I have my own special aura.”  “My world will not back down.”  I was overjoyed to see him embracing his androgyny and playing around with gender norms.  But I was sick at heart to see how thin he has gotten.

I feel like for many of us we are the frogs in the pot of boiling water, we’ve seen this happen so gradually that we don’t even realize the pot we’re in is boiling hot.  But I look at the Yibo that I love right now and I am saying to myself - how can he go on like this?  He is working himself to death.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, let’s take a look at some pictures from the past and compare them to pictures from now.

Yibo last year vs. Yibo this year - he has started to lose the muscle in his legs.  Once your body has burned off all the fat, the only thing left is to burn muscle to try and keep you moving.

Yibo last year vs. Yibo this year - he was thin last year, no fat around his waist.  This year, he was wearing a harness under his clothes for the wires to clip into and even with that harness on his hips look thinner than last year.

Yibo in 2018 vs Yibo in 2020.  He has lost weight on his face around his jaw, on his neck.  This picture of him in red gives the impression that if he turns sideways he will disappear completely.

Let’s take a look back to a time when Yibo looked at a healthy weight. I miss this Yibo so much.

Here are some comments he has made in the past year:

Cloud Time (March 2020)  Yibo: “I can only eat one meal a day.” (Speaking about going back on set soon.)

Street Dance of China hotpot (Summer 2020) Director: “Was Yibo ever fat?” Yibo: “I don’t think so, but my face easily gets fat. If I eat a lot, I still get fat easily, but my face gets fat. So it’s a bit troublesome. So I try to eat less when I’m filming shows.”

Street Dance of China hotpot (Summer 2020) Yibo:  "Eating rice is easy to get fat."

Street Dance of China hotpot (Summer 2020) Director: “Let’s start eating, we must be hungry already.” Yibo: “I was thinking if I should eat today. I won’t grow fat right?”

Street Dance of China hotpot (Summer 2020) Yibo: “Do you all want to eat this, it can block carbohydrates. You can just eat two of it before you eat. Yeah, so you will not get fat.”

Yibo at Bio-E promotional fanmeeting (Sept 2020) MC: “I see that Yibo eat quite deliciously on some programs, like hotpot. How do you eat and also be not afraid of weight control?” Yibo: “I only eat one meal everyday.” MC: “So you eat until you are very full right?”  Yibo: (smiles) Yibo: “Yes, I’ll eat some small biscuits in the middle, but if I have to control my weight, I actually try to maintain one meal per day but I’ll still replenish carbohydrates.” Fans: “Eat more!!!” Yibo: “I’ll be fat if I eat more!”

The frequency of his own statements about his weight lead me to believe that it is a top concern and priority to him - but I worry that it’s gone too far.  I know that in this industry you have to keep a slim figure, particularly when filming period dramas with close-fitting robes.  I understand that culturally in Asia people are thinner than they are in the west.  But when I compare our darling Yibo to those standing on stage next to him at Tencent Awards for example - to Yang Yang, to Kris Wu, to Xiao Zhan - none of them even come close to his level of thinness.

I am saying this because it is making me feel a little sick inside every time I see someone who is fixated on Yibo’s body right now - whether on his private parts, or his armpits - I’ve seen all kinds of posts over the course of the past 2 days.  And it doesn’t feel right.  Where is the love for the human being that lives and breathes under skin and bones? Where is the recognition that he is not healthy right now?

I don’t know what influence any of us can have as fans and admirers of his to help push for his agency to give him a little time off - only 7 days off (including weekends) in the past 9 months is just not enough.  After New Year’s Eve he broke my heart by going straight back on set.  But as fans if we can’t have influence to make him work less, we can at least be respectful by not making so many comments on his body.  And that may sound ironic at the end of a blog post about his weight but I think it’s important that Yibo know.

Yibo has to know we will love him if he gains 10 pounds, or 20, or however many he needs to in order to be healthy again.  We will love him if his Yheekies get even rounder than they are now.  We will love him no matter what.

When Stars Collide (Jackson Wang x Reader) Part 2/2

Jackson’s PoV.

He stared at his phone as he sat in his living room. Jackson felt so restless a long time ago, his heart was always thumping hard against his chest whenever he saw a picture of her. She was beautiful and her laugh was music to his ears. It’s been a week since he took her home after wrapping up the song at the studio. Ever since she debuted in N3XUS she drew his attention to herself in every music video or variety show.

Fans pointed out how badly her bandmates treated her and how much she was ignored by both the other girls and the company. She posted a few acoustic versions of their songs on her Instagram which left many people dumbfounded why her company was treating her so poorly. She was more than just talented. Jackson knew that he might fall in love with her right after he walked into the studio. Her voice was mesmerizing and it expressed so many feelings. He couldn’t help but stare at her in awe through the glass window.

He kept thinking back to that kiss she pressed onto his cheek as she said goodbye. He never thought he would feel like this. Even when he was so in love with Alice, it couldn’t compare to that buzzing he felt around (Name). Jackson sighed leaning back into his couch pulling a pillow into his arms, hugging it tightly. Then his phone went off startling him.

“Ey, man, I’m coming over with some take-out” sounded Bam Bam’s voice from the other end. “Jinyoung’s with me too.”

“Will you ever stop acting like you can just walk in here like you own the place?” Jackson sighed but smiled. Even after years of GOT7 ending, they were still as close as ever. Soon his doorbell rang and when he opened it, Bam Bam walked inside like he owned the place. He hung his head as he chuckled but his worry and nervousness never eased. Why couldn’t he just text her? Why was he so nervous?

“Hey man, you look like someone kicked your puppy” Bam Bam turned back to him while Jinyoung took his shoes off. Jackson’s response was silence as he walked over to the counter and started unpacking the food. “Wait, did Alice contact you again? Did she call you again?”

“No… the last time she did, I blocked her” Jackson shook his head while turning to the cabinets so he could grab plates and silverware.

“Then what’s wrong?” Jinyoung asked and his expression showed his worry for his friend.

“Ah, it has to be a girl! Did you get a new girlfriend? One night stand? Anything? Have you gotten laid ever since…?” Bam Bam was immediately interested making Jackson roll his eyes again.

“I have no idea, okay?” Jackson groaned as he planted himself in his couch with a pout on his lips. “We were connecting, wrote a song but… I don’t know…”

“Why are you not calling her? Just find out if she’s into you, man” his friend plopped down next to him. “It’s been so long since you looked at a woman other than as a friend. You need to get laid.”

“That is the only thing you can think about?” Jackson hit Bam Bam with a pillow. “I have no idea what to say…”

“Just text her ‘hi’ and she will respond, the pick up lines are so lame anyway but you can try them if you want her to run to the other end of the planet” Jinyoung chimed in making Jackson look at him as evilly as possible. The conversation quickly turned towards what everyone was doing and other things. It was relaxing to just let go of all the busy work days for a while and think about anything and nothing at the same time.

Then later that night, Jackson grabbed his phone and typed in those two letters with a winky emoji. His heart jumped in his chest but he decided to just put his phone down and take a shower first. He was tired and would have a long day the other day. When he finished with the shower, a message was waiting for him.

Time skip ~

A months went by and to his delight, the company wanted him and (Name) to shoot an MV for the song they collaborated on. It was tiring but he was filled with energy as he danced with her. She was so mesmerizing in her costume, her dance moves so smooth like she was born to do this and he thought so in reality. Jackson ever since seeing her perform on stage during a concert or in a music video, he thought that she was a natural. Her moves and gestures looked so effortless compared to the other girls in her band.

However, he knew that if you were passionate about what you were doing, people could achieve more than they would ever dream of. He was certain that she would achieve all her goals and more leaving everyone mesmerized. Then they were asked to perform on the newest Idol Producer during the live concert. The hype around the two of them was already large, fans wanted them to be together so when they appeared and he kissed her on stage, the whole place seemed to explode. They both agreed to it especially after the company asked them to show more intimate for the fans. It was too easy and he felt like no one was around them, like there was only the two of them. It was so sweet and he wanted to hold her and never let go. Jackson could see the same thing in her eyes but the moment ended with the music and she broke out of her trance.

To his disappointment, she had to leave the scene right after their performance for an interview with Elle. After that, they both had little time to even just chat with him being in a different country. It was frustrating then Jackson was invited to an awards show where everything turned downhill. One of the actresses he never even met before tried to make small talk and get closer to him. The intentions were so obvious and the woman was looking so cheap, acting so cheap. Though, the gentleman in him kept being polite to her which she took as a green light to be more pushy. Yibo, noticed it but was too busy listening to a director talk to him to go over to them. Jackson wasn’t angry with Yibo for not helping him out, he was still young and that director was way more important than to leave him hanging. Then the actress was in his lap before he realized what was happening and of course many fans and paparazzi shot a ton of photos in different angles of them.

First time in his life, Jackson pushed a woman away and ran away in frustration. He knew that by the time he reached the hotel room, (Name) would’ve already seen the photos and the none existent stories with them. But he couldn’t give up, he couldn’t let her slip away. For weeks, he felt miserable because she didn’t answer any of his texts or calls. One night, when he just wanted to fall into bed and not wake up for the next 72 hours, he found a letter on his coffee table with a ticket to Seoul. He furrowed his eyebrows as he lifted the letter to read it properly.

Dear Mr. Wang,

It’s Sue, (Name)’s assistant. I’m writing to you because I am aware of the truth behind those pictures. I’ve seen your live stream two weeks ago in which you explained everything. (Name) refused to see it but I know that it is not late, she is very much in love with you. I’m not writing to you as her assistant but as her friend.

There is an airplane ticket for you for the flight that comes to Seoul from Shanghai at 11 pm. I will arrange everything so she will be home, here’s the code for her apartment complex’s gate. I hope you can come…

Jackson’s heart seemed to skip a beat as he processed the words. He grabbed his phone, some cash with his keys and called a cab. He had to reach the flight which would take off in two hours. Throughout the flight he was restless, thinking about a million ways what to say to her. He couldn’t lose her. No one made him feel this way before, get under his skin, fill him with energy and make him giddy. Getting to her apartment was easy but knocking on her door was harder. Jackson stood there with a dry mouth and blinked a few times before he groaned and just knocked on the wooden surface of it without a thought in his head. He heard soft footsteps padding up to the door but all the air left his lungs when he saw her.

Your PoV.

You knew that everyone noticed your pouty face and bad mood lately but only Sue said anything about it. After all, she was the only person you told about your true feelings for Jackson. To your surprise, she wasn’t even surprised about that fact, just smirked at you knowingly and insisted on showing you Jackson’s live stream.

You definitely missed him. Being around him made everything so easy and effortless, so carefree. Ever since you stopped texting him, your days turned dull and grey. Nothing really interested you anymore and found yourself staring at your TV with a blank expression. Suddenly, someone knocked on your door which surprised you because you didn’t order food nor did you called over anyone. Not that you had many people to call over.

You walked up to the door with your eyebrows furrowed and opened the door. You thought you were having a heart attack when you saw who it was. Jackson was standing on the other side, disheveled, glitter sticking to half of his face and neck, dark circles under his eyes and panting heavily as he stared at you with wide eyes.

“J-Jackson?” you asked unsure of what you were supposed to do. “Um… Come in.”

Walking past you, you could smell his smell. You always thought that it was nice for him to not put on liters of cologne. Other guys tended to do so suffocating anyone in a ten meter radius.

“(Name)… just please, listen to me, I know the photos and what the media made up is contradictory but there was nothing going on between me and that woman” Jackson sputtered quickly after you closed the door. He grabbed your hand and looked at you pleadingly. “Please, believe me…”

“Why… are you explaining anything to me?” you asked quietly trying to pull away. He didn’t owe you anything, he was a free man, there was nothing official going on between the two of you. “You… don’t owe me anything…”

“Then why are you not responding? Why are you ignoring me since then?” he asked and leaned down so he could look into your eyes. He reached up to cup your face and wiped a tear away. You reached up and touched the wet trail of the tear in surprise. “I know we never got to officially go out… I wanted to ask you out properly after that night when we performed in live TV but you had to go to an interview. (Name)… I’ve never felt anything like this with anyone before…”

Jackson was looking deep into your eyes, forehead almost touching yours. He was still so perfect and you knew you would be a fool to not say yes. Every inch of you wanted to say yes… ever since you met him in the studio.

“I wasn’t angry with you…” you sniffed as you held onto his hand that cupped your face. “I was afraid that I was seeing too much into everything… I was afraid to be heartbroken.”

“I know… and I want to make it up to you” he breathed before his lips crashed against yours in an urgent, impatient yet sweet kiss. You could feel his desperation as he held onto you like his life depended on it. You kissed him back with your eyes closed. Your heart was thumping so hard against your ribcage as he pulled you closer.

He was everything you ever wanted and you were grateful for the stars to lead you to him.

Ten years later ~

Hong Kong was beautiful in its own way. You learnt Chinese quickly especially with Jackson helping you when you got stuck. When he first brought you home, to introduce you to his family, he seemed to be so proud showing you off. His family was nice and accepted you completely after Jackson proposed to you.

You knew how hard it was for him to propose after how his first fiancée let him down, but you couldn’t be happier to tie the knot with him. It was natural and nothing changed after years of marriage either except that you got two kids. You were always laughing your head off when Jackson was once left with your daughter for days because you had some work over seas and showed you the drawing your daughter made. He was glowing with pride and happiness, already telling your daughter that she was a true artist.

It was filling you with happiness to see him happy. He was so good at taking care of your kids, even made a special performance with them for Mother’s Day for you. Though, you got a whole different performance later in the bedroom. You loved him more than anything and you knew he felt the same way about you. There was no need for any proof.

Look. Xiao Zhan’s performance as Wei Wuxian is undeniably good and charming and everything. But. Wang Yibo’s performance as Lan Wangji was literally a cultural reset. Honest to god one of the best performances I’ve ever seen in anything. He perfectly nailed so much about the character and gave him a sense of depth, nuance, and vulnerability that is honestly missing from every other iteration of the character. His micro expressions are everything.

He also completely nailed the gay aspect of his character without it feeling forced in the way a lot of BL adaptations feel a bit forced and stilted when it comes to the homoerotic side of things. Like I completely bought him as a gay man. And I think that’s why he’s become so beloved among LGBT fans of the show- more so than even Wei Wuxian. Because he feels so genuinely relatable.

Street Dance of China, Season 4, Episode 7

- The figures make a return!!! I love them, they are so cute.

- Anyway, it’s cute that each of the teams have kind of a common room to chill. Helps with the team atmosphere, I think.

- Yixing playing the flute/pipe that has a gourd at the top. I recall seeing a video where he’s played it before, so the production crew probably got it so that he could show off a bit.

- The fact that Han Geng’s having a cooking class is just reaffirming my beliefs that Han Geng would be the best captain to have if I was a contestant. They have the most fun.

- Yibo is so super serious though. While the other teams are chilling, he’s already thinking of his redemption plan. I’ll be honest, it feels....a little too tense. As a captain, I think he needs to take time for his team to relax and regroup.

- My boy Yixing recruited my boy MT-Pop T_T He gave him the Baymax to accompany when he’s feeling lonely because apparently MT-Pop said that he missed home often T_T Also Yixing was watching for MT-Pop’s expression except he was emotionless and Poppin’C was like no, don’t worry, he’s always like this XD I thought that Baymax suited MT-Pop too because he likes monsters so I think it’s not a reach to guess that he likes superheroes and comics and cool characters. Also, like Baymax, MT-Pop is also friend-shaped. Anyway, I wonder if he was feeling emotional here because he missed home ;_;

- Yixing gave Momo the CUTEST cat lamp T_T

- In the captain interview, Momo asked Yixing if his stomach was alright. I saw in some behind-the-scenes photos that Yixing had a bad stomach that day, so I guess that was why he was so disappointed with his performance. I’d initially thought it was his back problems (because he was shown getting some back massages/chiropractic stuff done to his waist in other behind-the-scenes footage), but I think the back/waist stuff is something that’s been going on for a longer time.

- Lmao Nelson being like “I know girls, they love that cute stuff” XD And he noted how Momo seemed more comfortable with Yixing. To be fair, he’s onto something, I am girl and I love cute stuff and dudes that make me smile. (Though in the end, Momo chose Yibo)

- I thought it was cute that Momo was talking through the wall to MT-Pop, asking if he’d already chosen his team. I love the friendships between the dancer contestants v.v

- Yixing gave copies of his Lit physical album to the Gogo Brothers...all of the fans who couldn’t get their hands on a copy are gonna be mad haha.

- Yixing’s team tried to surprise Gogo Brothers when they joined their team ^^;;

- This is as wild as Yixing is going to go lol. He was waving the scarves being all “WOOHOO!!”

- Yixing and Han Geng’s teams shouting for Bozi across however many rooms made me laugh XD Especially because Bozi is such a stoic dude.

- Yixing’s relief at having recruited Bozi. As we know, he doesn’t have much confidence in recruiting dancers.

- When Bunta and Henry had their interview they were being all “HEYYY MY GUY!!!!” Very buddy-buddy. And then Henry to his team was like “I’ve never talked to Bunta.” The art of faking it gets you far.

- For the contestants who get to choose between two or more captains, they get an extra blind box with a little doll in it. I wonder what that is. It’s so cute, I want one v.v (I love dolls)

- The rejection on Han Geng’s face XD Is this the first time he’s been outplayed?

- In addition to getting everyone on his team to sign the card, Yixing also asked Rei from Gogo Brothers to come with him to recruit Bunta, and it worked in the end.

- Yixing turning the party into a concert being like “MAKE SOME NOISE!!!”

- Not gonna lie, the performances aren’t the best, probably because they’re just for funsies anyway. It doesn’t bother me that much though, at least they look like they’re having fun. As a wise man once said, fun must be always.

- OMG YES YIXING. He went full memery on this XD

- There’s so much going on here. The song they danced to was a famous song by Xiaohudui (a Taiwanese boyband). When questioned about their choice of music, Yixing was like “yeah, we’re an international boyband!” We know Yixing is super serious so the fact that they did this cheesy stuff is supremely surprising but also SUPER AWESOME. The other captains were like “you were too serious!” but the reason why this worked was because they were serious tbh. As Psy once said, dress classy, dance cheesy. Anyway, I’m a fan. Look at how fabulous they are.

- Yibo’s team danced to the Huluwa song. Look at Liangliang’s hair lol.

- You can’t see this very well but Bouboo carried Yibo away in a fireman’s hold.

- So this is how Han Geng’s gonna play it, huh

- There’s just A LOT going on here

- Henry getting lessons from Xiaoji on how to have swag (ft. Xiao Jie as the teaching assistant).

- Yixing kept being like “ge, watch the expression!!”

- You can tell who did and didn’t get their hair done just by looking at who is wearing the headphones properly. Also, I used to be super whatever about cat ear headphones, but now I am so down for them. I want a pair of cat ear headphones even though I never use headphones (prefer earphones).

- Ok this is cute. Xiao Jie is trying to explain the passage to Bouboo in English, but Xiao Jie’s English is a bit limited. At this part he was trying to explain a watermelon to Bouboo and was like “it’s an apple but it’s bigger and it’s green.” Han Geng and Yibo are just having a ball. Look at how big Yibo is laughing? Boy never laughs like that.

- Somehow Bouboo understood Xiao Jie’s English, and then Bouboo was like “your English is very Chinese” which prompted another round of laughs. He would know, he’s probably been around a lot of Chinese people trying to speak English to him.

- Yo, Rochka’s Mandarin pronunciation is REALLY good. He’s really good at replicating the tones.

- Henry, San’er, and Rochka turned their final answer into a song XD

- Yixing tried to game the system lol. Instead of reciting the whole passage, he picked the easiest words. It wasn’t totally perfect, but his method allowed the players to focus on key words instead of memorizing the small details and preposition words. Smartest catboi (y)

- We already knew Henry was good at piano (I know he has at least RCM Level 10, probably has his ARCT too), but he’s also appropriately showy about it.

- OMG ROCHKA SINGING 月亮代表我的心 (ft. Henry harmonizing)

- Now Boris!

- Of course this mf had to whip out the violin.

- Okay so I kept seeing that clip of Yixing dancing to the sexy dance with Ibuki and Qiao Zhi and I had no idea what it was from. NOW I KNOW.

- Henry is SO MEAN he keeps bullying C-Lil and telling him that if he doesn’t do well he has to go home. STOP BULLYING HIM!!!

- The captains keep roping in team members to do the dances with them haha.

- Waiwai was saying how she’s never seen Bozi and Qiao Zhi smile while breaking and yet they look like they’re having a ball learning the sexy dance.

- Yibo did some magic tricks. Something I’ve noticed is that Yibo is actually quite good at public speaking. He makes very few mistakes, barely uses any filler words. Anyway, his first magic trick didn’t quite work, but the rest of them did (y) 

- Han Geng performed a dance that he said he learned when he was very young. I remember when he was still doing stuff regularly with Super Junior, people would ask him to show off the ethnic dances that he’d studied. This performance was exactly that, plus some added shenaniganery at the end.

- I really liked Ma Xiaolong and Rochka’s performances. Ma Xiaolong is such a good singer? Like it’s not just the skill, but he has creativity when he sings. As for Rochka, his performance was just so much fun. He was a good singer too but he also brings such charisma.

- Really sorry to hear about Zyko’s sister :( I can’t be mad, he needs to go home. He looked so down too when he was calling Han Geng. All the best to his family :(  I did really love Zyko on the show. He was so open minded and so easygoing. All the best v.v

- I’m glad that the other contestants got to see him off (AC, Ibuki, Rochka, Ma Xiaolong). Rochka looked so sad. He strikes me as a sympathetic guy, so I don’t doubt that he was troubled by the news too.

- Not gonna lie, the news about Zyko kind of brought my mood down. It’s not that the show is “ruined,” it’s just the idea of his sister being so seriously hurt that’s hard swallow for me. I can’t believe how Zyko must be feeling. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still going to watch the rest of the show, I guess the news was just a stark reminder that we live in the real world.

1. Cherry Magic

This. I was so not expecting to be so invested in this drama, but it quickly became one of my favorite dramas ever. It constantly gave me serotonin and it was so well executed too 😭 I absolutely adore Eiji's and Keita's acting, they did such a good job, that even if I watched without subs I could understand the characters’ emotions, they conveyed them so well! Amazing. Stunning. I love it so much😭❤️

2. The Untamed

I watched it bc my friend dared me to, but oh wow, it is worth all the praise I heard about it. I got so attached to the characters, it's truly an amazing show. And don't even get me started with Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo, bc– oh well, I just fell for this series bc how can you not. Can't believe I only got to watch it this year, I need to rewatch it soon too, I miss it ;-;

3. 2gether/Still2gether

I was so excited when I heard about it first coming out! I thought it would be a lot more of a fake dating au then it actually was BUT I enjoyed it a lot ❤️ Especially Still2gether was just pure fun to watch and I couldn't get enough of it. Plus, it got my creative juices to flow (even if I still haven't written much for recently, oh well)

4. Gameboys

This! The way the story was told using the pandemic as an opportunity for new type of storytelling rather than a limiting factor... Plus I liked it a lot and was low-key crying when they finally met ;u;

5. Where Your Eyes Linger

I miss Han Gichan every minute of my life, ngl. And I got to watch produce bc of him too, and here I am obsessed with K-pop now. Thanks Gichan. But the drama itself is just lovely, too short for my liking, but definitely played on my heartstrings ❤️

6. Pearl Next Door

I'm happy to see my girl Pearl have some time to shine! I'm so in love with Adrianna look at her she's so beautiful how This series can be a little silly at times, but I'm genuinely curious how it's gonna pan out. Also love me some good gl series, I don't have enough of it usually.

7. My Engineer

I started daydreaming about ramking recently and oh boy do I miss them. I know we're getting s2, but wHEN is the question. This was a cute series too, definitely wasn't expecting it to take over my life.

8. Life Senjou no Bokura

I've seen the drama and I've read the manga and you know, there's something about japanese bls that gets me. I adored the parts that they added in the drama so much and the story is so good ;u; This has the angst and the fluff and is kinda short but totally worth it!

9. He's Coming To Me

I genuinely think it's one of my favorite thai dramas ever. The plot isn't conventional and concept is intriguing as well. It made me fell in love with Singto, too~ 

10. Road to Kingdom

This... Is not a drama, and I hate mnet and I hate survival shows, and I hate that they made this a survival show (hopefully Kingdom won't be tho) but oh the performances. The performances were so good I couldn't stop watching. Idk if I'd recommend watching the whole thing bUT the performances are on yt so I recommend to check them out! (especially 'Danger' by tbz and 'Kill This Love' by ptg & onf ❤️)

Well, I could just end this list at one song, because truth be told I’ve just been listening to Wild Child on repeat for several days now. GG’s voice is so beautiful, strong and sweet, and so damn comforting. He makes it seem like everything’s going to be OK. There is nothing else I can listen to right now. Nothing. I’ve tried branching out for the sanity of my partner, but nothing else does it for me. Fuck I love GG so much. God I love that man.

DD’s new song, I love it. So much power, and I love the sentiment of it. His NYE performance blew me away. Despite the fact that all I can listen to is Wild Child, when I’m puttering around the house and there’s no music playing, this is the song I’m always singing (LOL or badly approximating anyway).

I know I’ve always been really subtle and nuanced in how I talk about DD, but hopefully some of the more astute readers have been able to parse out some of my feelings for the princeling.

Rüfüs Du Sol - Innerbloom

I know I’m being boring af when I put this song here, because it’s been in almost every music post I’ve made, but there’s a reason. I love this song so much. It pretty much epitomizes an element of music that I love most. I’m all about anthemic yearning and bittersweet, upbeat grief and catharsis.

Amyl and the Sniffers - I’m Not A Loser

I’m going to mention them here because FUCK COVID. I was so excited for this show and the tour was canceled just as the first lockdowns happened in my region. Watching this video makes me nostalgic for distant times when we could all cram together in a hot, sweaty group and enjoy getting our eardrums ripped out by the performers we love. God, I miss live shows.

SOPHIE

I’m also going to mention SOPHIE, because she recently died and it was a fucking tragedy. It’s such a massive loss on multiple levels. She was not only a groundbreaking, brilliant producer who worked with pioneering artists and producers along with many big names in the industry, she was also a LGBTQ icon and someone who rebelled against the boundaries of conformity on every front. She was a personal hero of mine.

For anyone who’s curious to learn more about her, there are so many good articles out right now. Just google her and you’ll find great write-ups from the BBC, NYT and all the other major newspapers and magazines.

it’s the episode 8 review!!! how many episodes is this show supposed to even be?

the stages from the episode feel like such a grab bag.... i still don’t understand why they didn’t put all the skill stages together, and then did the normal two episodes of the third round. i guess it makes sense that they didn’t want to have six stages in one episode and then three in the other two, but eh. 

feeling kinda average on these as a whole, there’s a lot of good elements going on here but probably because of my own preferences (i don’t listen to ballads or blackpink) none of them really hit all the buttons. hopefully this will be a shorter review because i'm only going to do a quick rundown of the vocal stages; i dont really have that much to say about them because they are (intentionally) not very stage picture focused. i'll do the normal stage breakdowns for the other two though, even though i won’t rank them because we still need to see the other four!

vocal stages

sf9 + tbz + ikon

not much to say here other than wow, that’s RED. glad to see some more specific use of spotlighting and i always love when they light things on fire. i do wish they had fill lit with a brighter amber so we could actually get a bit more detail on their faces, especially because there’s six of them. i appreciated the simple blocking and only using one of the ‘stages,’ this stage didn’t need to be anything complicated and it wasn’t. i don’t love spinning camera shots because they make me a bit ill, and i'll forgive the constant cutting because it's a vocal stage and there isn’t any other real movement that we should be paying attention to. not my favourite of the two, i found it visually a bit too repetitive and complex at the same time. always love a crushed velvet suit though, so bonus points for that.

atz + skz + btob

i was braced for the worst and i dont know what kind of miracle happened but it was listenable! like i said, not a ballad fan but i could listen to eunkwang all day. i love a good plinth for a ballad stage, they’re one of my favourite devices in kpop design and i especially love it with a good groundlevel fog. glad they kept it black and white for the first half of the stage, it was in line with the blooming flower projections, and it made a very clear colour arc. they kept the visuals clean and simple with very little blocking at all, a very smart choice for this stage. not sure why they decided it would be the chanel time stage, which i disapprove of because i don’t like chanel, but i do love eunkwang’s shirt with the cameo buttons and the massive turnback cuffs, very 17th and also 19th century. i know they never do it because they dont read on stage normally but yes absolutely more thin chain pendant chokers on men, thank you! i also liked that there was emphasis on a more traditional lighting scheme, there weren't any crazy concert effects, just some good directional beam spotlights and the rear stacks in the climax. 

third round stages

costume

the first look for them is definitely my fabourite of theirs so far. there’s enough variation in the jackets that the base layer of tshirt and jeans don’t look too repetitive. and i do love a good statement jacket. my favourite is probably donghyuk’s because i'm a sucker for fringe always.

i don’t like the backup dancers costumes, but given the way i’ve reacted to every other all black outfit for this entire show i don’t think anyone was surprised about that. these ones particularly irk me because they’re very matte; there's pretty much no texture or pattern differentials to define the shape of the limb, which makes them disappear when theyre all grouped together (mostly on the women). i think they probably were intending to make a statement/emphasis on the hands because of the sleeve cutoff point, but there were so many arm movements that were just totally missed because the costumes were just black voids. most egregious parts are here, with the female dancers up center. i can barely tell what the movements are unless i’m paying specific attention to them because there's so many black shapes. maybe it was the point for it to be an indiscernable writhing mass, but it wasn’t my vibe.

don’t love this styling on lisa. i hate peeptoe shoes in general but peeptoe boots are the worst offenders. they make you look like you have duck feet, no matter who you are. especially with a flat cutout like that. a universally unflattering shoe, and i would know, i worked in a shoe store for two years. this whole look is just pg-13 rihanna cfda awards 2014 and really nobody should try to run up against rihanna.

also i have to mention this because it’s actually really bothering me, but lisa’s backup dancers are serving very allgemeine ss looks and i do not like it. generally when we see ‘military’ uniforms in kpop theyre usually modelled off older styles (pre wwii) of western uniforms that usually aren’t in circulation, and they’re usually non-matching and embellished in ways that are deliberately not military. i know logically that it's a budget constraint+they’re backup dancers+current trend thing but the clean lines with only button detailing and the all black and that specific harness shape? it hit my brain the wrong way. i mean, technically those uniforms are designer because hugo boss did them, but the uh..... girlboss move didn’t land for me.

this is my PERSONAL OPINION please for the love of all that is holy do not come yelling at me about this. it’s all under a cut, you chose to read the post.

set

very glad to see some busy kitschy sets! this is a massive build, since there’s essentially three full sets here: the temple, the jungle, and the first tiny room. and all of them are very heavily decorated. 

the starting room is just five walls on casters (wheels), that have been set into place with the cameraman and ikon inside at the start, and then once they exit the walls can be easily struck and rolled off set. simple, smart, and convenient!

i missed it the first couple times around but glitching out the projections in the temple for a split second was a neat little trick.

the silver and polygonal nature of the tiger/panther/cat(?) head is a bit disconnected from the gold and the aesthetic of the rest of the stage for me. the difference between the original room set and the jungle tracks, but the cat head isnt able to make the same leap for me. i'm also not a fan of mixing metals so maybe that’s why.

the tiger/panther/cat(?) head is a fun physical transitional device; i'm a big fan of tunnels and small transitory spaces like that and if they’re well dressed like this one they do so much for establishing place and mood.

i'm very sure i’ve seen this style of polygonal animal head with laser eyes before....i cannot for the life of me remember where or for what. i know wang yibo did a panther stage for sdc3 that had a human formation panther with green laser eyes, i wonder if i'm just crossing wires.

OH nevermind it’s because it looks like the witcher medallion. wires were definitely crossed.

lighting

using purple/teal lighting for the jungle was a smart choice because purple is the direct compliment to the gold and also is much more flattering on humans than green. green is one of the colours that humans can see the most variations in, so when something is green when it's not supposed to be (like human skin), we register that very quickly and associate it with unease and sickness. you know how old fluorescent lights have that greenish tinge that kinda makes you feel ill? it's your cone cells and your brain recognizing that you’re looking at things that are not supposed to be green.

very clean colour arc, i love to see it.

sound

it’s.....fine? i don’t listen to blackpink and have no opinions on their music other than it's not my type. i dont really know what the thematic connection to the visuals is, which is not strictly necessary in a lot of cases, but i don’t particularly care for the conflation of ‘savage’ and a (presumably) precolonial religion that’s assembled from stereotypes of real colonized cultures. you can come at me about how ‘it's not that deep’ all you want but i am here specifically doing an in depth analysis, and i gotta point it out. i'm not here to pass judgement on you if you didn’t realize or don’t care or whatever, i'm just saying that it's important to consume content with a critical eye. what you do with that information is your own personal choice, but you should be aware of it at least. 

staging

they took a big risk eating popcorn right before singing, and we definitely got some residual mouth noises of them trying to clean out their teeth. eating on stage is difficult in general because you have to make sure it's not going to dry out the performers mouths, because they dont have access to water and it takes WAY longer to chew and swallow something than you would expect. there’s a LOT of testing that goes into making stage food and guaranteed it’s not made out of what it looks like or what its supposed to be; i worked on a production of amadeus were we did literal weeks of testing amalgams of different desserts to make sure that salieri could actually eat the ones onstage without totally drying him out, because fun fact about that show, salieri doesnt leave stage like, at all, so there was no way to get him water. poor bloke.

i thought the blocking of this was really smart. the long take from the ‘normal’ room and transition into the jungle was super slick, even if that weird circle the camera did while pointed up at the ceiling was unnecessary and pointless.

bobby’s ‘acting’ was extremely funny and that’s the only way people are allowed to act surprised now. edvard munsch scream style only.

the pacing is a bit off and this time it wasn’t mnet’s editing that fucked it up. as fun as it is to have a feature, clearly she wasn’t allowed within proximity of the rest of them for covid or other yg related reasons, but it made for some extremely long transitions, especially the one out of her verse. it kills the momentum of the stage in that beat, even though they manage to pick it up after.

this is a very simple little narrative arc that’s easy to follow and doesn’t require any extra explaining. which is exactly the kind of arc that groups should be doing at this stage in the game. this is a good formic step up for ikon!

i thought the turning off of the monitor at the end was fun and a good callback to them watching the videos at the beginning of the stage. a nice clean way to make it circular.

skz

costume

FINALLY something different on the skz boys! these were mostly fun eboy looks for them, and i like it on the basis that it's not the same as the last set of costumes.

bang chan out there with his thigh OUT and a (fake) bridge piercing? LOVE to see it. great work.

(copy-paste every thing i’ve said about backup dancers wearing all black)

the backup dancers that were dressed as bystanders/extras were great! they should have kept that with all of them because it would have given a little more shape to the choreography and establishing what function the backup dancers were supposed to have.

set

that is meant to be a giant rice cooker on stage, right? i think so because it's a god’s menu mashup? if that's not a rice cooker i have NO idea what its supposed to be

there’s only two large setpieces here, which was a smart way to go. i LOVE the subway car doubling as the truck, even if the truck itself makes no narrative sense. what a fun way to double the use of a single big piece. you’ll be able to see the way it moves in the full cam but it splits down the centre and there entrance doors at the back with attached stairs that bang chan and the dancers use to climb up.

lighting

not a whole lot happening here. i like the cool white leds in the subway car and the contrast with the more warm tones of the outside, which is good atmospheric establishment, but i can't discern a visible arc. 

not a fan of these projections; they’re in line with what we’ve seen from skz so far, which is: extremely literal. i dont think they’re that distracting, but they’re not to my personal taste. they really should have kept the comic panel theme that they did for changbin’s first verse, because that was inventive and fun to watch! and a great atmospheric indicator! i would love to see a bit more experimental projection use but it's hard when they don’t have a lot of time to build these stages and the lighting team is definitely working remotely.

sound

i love that they made the choice to do some actual talking, it’s a good gimmick and it works for the deadpool/comic book/fourth wall break theme, but australian accents take me the fuck out i am so sorry i cannot listen to either felix or bang chan speak english without laughing uncontrollably. 

i don’t like this arrangement but i'm not surprised about that, given my predilections. i'm also tired of skz shouting STRAY KIDS in every performance they do. i know on music shows it's probably more relevant and yea producers tags are a thing but we’ve been watching this show for nearly two months at this point. we know who you are, you can stop yelling. be more creative with it!

staging

my biggest issue with this stage is that it doesn’t have a payoff. there is an arc here: they’re stealing the truck, but why are they stealing the truck? who are they stealing it from? who are they fighting against? it's kind of important in a stage where the theme is stealing and fighting someone that you tell us who that is. in both of ateez’s previous stages were they were both stealing (rhythm ta) and fighting (wonderland), they made sure to show us who the villain was. there needs to be tension for a big blowup climax to actually pay off. whether it be against a a balloon arm kraken or a fascist government. this stage could have reached that next step if they’d just done a little bit more exposition. 

there were a lot of fun choreo moments here, and this is probably my favourite choreo of theirs so far. i thought the whole first bit in the subway car was excellent and a very fun play on those viral videos that we used to see roll around every so often of dancers doing routines in subway cars.

did it need the guns? not in the slightest. more on this point later. i could talk more about weapons and weight here, but i’ve done that several times already.

like with the tbz game of thrones stages, theyre relying a little too much on the audience's preconceptions of the source material in order to carry the theme. the guns are there because deadpool likes guns, but they don’t actually use the guns for anything? the most we get of the stealing segment is felix and the safe, which admittedly is a great bit with him leaping over and under the ‘laser’ lines (theyre likely led strips). because comic books are by nature procedural and deeply tied to narrative, it's unsatisfying when there’s no tension and no payoff.

HOW did we manage to get two stages that are blackpink covers with remote/tv static gimmick and durags? i know the slot machine of kpop tropes is not very big but surely the probability of hitting triple sevens on this one was pretty low. i’m pretty meh on both of these stages overall. skz was unsatisfying but i loved the choreo in the subway bit so that bumped it up a little ahead of ikon’s in my personal preferences, but i'm reserving my actual rankings for next week. assuming we get the other four stages next week and they dont do something stupid and only show two. which they very well might. i’ve stopped trying to understand why mnet does things the way that they do.

Haha yeah, when I read the norse mythology book all I could imagine of as Loki and Thor was Hiddleston and Hemsworth 🤣 As for DW audiobooks, the official company and website that works on them is called bigfinish, if it helps! They do physical orders and digital downloads. DW is their main focus, but they do audibooks for a lot of other shows too. A good portion of them are older UK shows, but I've seen them do things for Pathfinder and Star Trek before now too - CC 🦊

to answer your question: i hate to say this but i’m pretty sure that i unfortunately would not be besties with neither lwj nor wwx. i feel like lwj’s demeanor is way too cold and would come off as rude or arrogant the first time i would meet him. like i’d try to make small talk and he’d be like “mh” or tell me off for not following the rules and i’d be like nope i’m outta here 😂 like i’m very self conscious and often think other ppl don’t like me so lwj would definitely give me that feeling. and wwx would drag me into so much trouble and my anxiety can’t stand that. i don’t like to do stuff that i was told not to do because i get nervous and wwx would definitely be the type of friend to talk me into it so no thanks 😂 i think i’d get along super well with jyl or lsz. like they’re both nice and chill and i feel like they’d be amazing friends to just hang out with and talk to. i’d probably also have a good time with nhs (cloud recesses nhs at least) cause i feel like he’s always in a good mood and it’d just be a really fun time to be around him.

I haven’t done this for awhile, so let’s look at some clowning material from the past 24 hours 🤍 usual disclaimer applies, it’s all a coincidence.

• I’ve already talked about GG’s 4/16 post here and here but there seems to be more, especially people drawing stuff! We learned from GG! 😂 The last one tho looks like he’s editing in their photo from Tencent or maybe it’s all an illusion— whatever it is, it’s still fun to draw things. I personally don’t trust GG at this point. At times I feel like he’s purposely fucking with us. He shares these things that seem like normal content but he hides clues in it and he knows there is a specific group of people that will lose sleep over it.

It's also the 1005th day of Chen Qingling's broadcast. It's 2022, Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo are on the hot search again! 🥲 I guess GG might have seen that and decided to post.

Notice that YBO and GG’s perspective is the same, they are taking a photo/video of the clouds and you can see the white cover thing ( idk what it’s called lol).

Plus some BXGs did some searching and the tree looks like a match for a Hainan Red Bean tree. Now who do we know established a cultural technology company called Hainan Boyuan Cultural Technology Co., Ltd? Yibo. If you wanna find more meaning then it is said that Red beans, also known as Xiangsizi, have been used by people who love each other since ancient times. Red bean means missing your lover. It means a hundred years of harmony, and people think that red beans are a kind of spiritual auspiciousness. It means growing old together 🤍

• Now since I like symbolism and possible meanings, let’s go back to when GG sang Heartbeat / Tempting Heart in Our Song. He also performed this in one of his 2016 livestreams. When he was asked in Our Song rehearsal about why he chose it, this is what he said:

“I’ve liked this song since young because the lyrics were very beautifully written, especially the emotional struggle in relationships. 2 people who are in love couldn’t get together for some reason, and it’s regretful”

Well trust GG to gravitate towards the angst.

It’s from the movie Tempting Heart released in 1999 and the song also became popular. There is a scene towards the end of the film where you see a note that the male lead gave to the female lead. He would take a picture of the sky whenever he misses her. He only gave her the photos and the note just before he married someone else. It says : These are the days I miss you. I’m giving them to you! *cue sad music*

I like to think that this is not the case for GG/Web. They can take photos of the sky ( or moon ) when they miss each other and send it. Even if they can’t say it out loud, it can be shared in their social media and those of us who get it will understand. It doesn’t have to be kept and given at the end— it’s out in the open and those close to them ( and us clowns ) are supporting the love between the two.

• Sunrise & Sunset is a other recurring photo theme between the two of them. I know it’s a popular thing to take pics of but we clowning here so we gotta go a little deeper. I also like this clip from 2019 where Web was trying to take photos using a proper camera on set then he goes on to say that his phone takes good pictures. When he shows it off, it’s all blue sky/sunrise/sunset. In my CPN brain, GG teaches him how to use a camera. Web knows how much GG likes photography so he tries to understand it too. Their love language is sending each other photos and probably with some disgustingly sweet message with it.

• 4/15 was the last day for OOL’s airing for non-vip members so XZS decided to share Gu Wei’s OOTD. Fans really did love wei wei’s wardrobe in this show and it’s the first one where XZ was able to wear normal clothes so it made people really excited. One design detail that caught our attention is this photo where Wei Wei is leaning on the tires.

It is the only photo where there is something “extra” added in. The caption says something about the angle that Wei Wei is standing. It’s still out of place tho. If you look at that episode, he was leaning against a car while waiting for LZX. They can easily edit that out. The tires remind us clowns of moto tires and why did they add that to the (only) piece of clothing in color green?

• Yibo posted today at 11:16 but it’s about that space thing that came back after 6 months. I’m still waiting for a proper 4/16 post or maybe they are taking turns? Lol. with how it’s going, It seems like GG is taking charge of being the captain lately. 🙃

• They are on HS and the main photo is too funny! I hope the boys see it and get to laugh about it 😂

The Untamed/陈情令 Rewatch, Episode 4  (spoilers for everything)

(covers mainly MDZS chaps 13 and 14)

(a 🐰 is earned every time there is a WangXian scene or even when they’re just thinking of each other…more than one 🐰 can be given based on the level of WangXian-ness in a scene)

I loved and enjoyed all of Wei Ying’s “Notice me Wangji-senpai" moments in this episode, but my favorite has to be the one above: the way he tried to play off Lan Zhan totally ignoring him by blaming the other man’s hearing makes me laugh out loud every time I watch this episode. It’s just too adorable. Even though Lan Zhan is clearly still annoyed with him, I like how it’s also obvious that Wei Ying is slowly but surely burrowing his way into his psyche and taking hold there by either not leaving him alone or just being himself which is ample to constantly draw Lan Zhan’s attention to him. It‘s as if Lan Zhan’s life was a calm pond and Wei Ying was a beautiful, lively carp that suddenly decided to just jump into his waters without permission, taking liberties by swimming and splashing around, basically causing ruckus in every corner of his pool. Naturally, Wei Ying’s actions perturbs Lan Zhan to no end at first, but at the same time, he is also leaving an undeniable impression, so that eventually, when this carp leaves Lan Zhan’s pond, he can’t help but constantly think of Wei Ying and even miss his disruptive presence, thus naturally paving the way for the escalation of his affections that follow later on.  

Whereas with Wei Ying, I think he simply enjoyed irritating this fuddy-duddy at first, but eventually, his light-hearted teasing probably became just a little more meaningful and he started looking forward to getting a reaction out of Lan Zhan because it provided him with genuine joy and satisfaction, until those feelings grew into just joy from being around the other man and interacting with him.  

Ultimately that’s a big reason why I love their relationship: the development and progression of their feelings for each other makes a lot of sense to me. The phrase “opposites attract” has never been more applicable in terms of Wei Ying and Lan Zhan, but at the same time, they still share enough things in common—such as their moral code and belief system—that makes them absolutely just perfect for each other.  I can imagine a future for them right from the start, whereas with other couples in stories, regardless of their sex, I’ve had difficulty believing they should be together other than because the plot requires them to be. I think the drama really succeeded in showing us why it’s completely logical that these two people would be drawn to each other, that they almost can’t help but be drawn together, by actually showing us all these little precious moments between them as they occurred, which the novel for the most part only described in an after-the-fact manner. While subtlety has its merits too, I do appreciate the more clearly illustrated path The Untamed decided to take for WangXian.

Along those lines, I also appreciated how CQL chose to show us the first time Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao met and their instant connection. Honestly, when I first saw this moment…

I immediately thought they were going to be a couple too, like Wei Ying and Lan Zhan, and I was totally on board, until I found out from reading comments here and there that I shouldn’t be because this ship was bad news. I was disappointed of course and even tried to withstand its alluring call for a while, especially after reading the book and finding out exactly why this wasn’t a ship I wanted to board since it was on a one-way ticket to hell and heartbreak basically. But the drama just made it so damn hard to resist, and before I knew it, I was lowkey hooked.  Much like with WangXian, I was surprised at how much the show was getting away with in terms of XiYao:

I mean, big bro Xichen totally stroked Meng Yao’s finger there, right? First time I saw that, I remember rewinding a few times just to check and and make sure and if it’s just an optical illusion, that’s a damn convincing trick. Amusingly enough I thought at first Wei Ying was seeing the same thing and was reacting in disbelief to that moment, until I realized from his angle, there’s no way he could have seen that small gesture and he was just responding to that (ugly) incense pot.  

After finishing the series, I have to admit I’m pretty much a full-on XiYao-shipper now, which is really out of character for me because I usually prefer ships with happy endings. I have to blame, or rather, give credit to the two actors portraying LXC and JGY (Liu Haikuan and Zhu Zanjin, respectively) for conjuring up these feelings in me because they had so much chemistry together, which honestly at times rivaled that of Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo’s chemistry. I just love how LXC’s expression softens every time he interacts with JGY and even from their first meeting, it’s obvious there were genuine feelings of respect and gratitude behind Meng Yao’s reaction to LXC.

Take the moment above as an example: the extreme admiration emanating from JGY after seeing LXC exhibit his fluting powers had to be for real since there was no reason to react just for Nie Huaisang’s sake. I can totally imagine hearts fluttering all around him as he looked upon XiChen with those wide, innocent-seeming puppy eyes of his. And when he bade his farewell to big bro later on in the episode, I loved how the camera lingered on LXC’s hands as Meng Yao moved away after saluting him, just to reiterate the intimacy of their brief physical contact.  

I also appreciated the small, seemingly trivial moments before and after he meets up with LXC in that scene, where Meng Yao is first ignored by the two male sect disciples walking by him and then later on by two female disciples. Contrast that with how LXC immediately praises Meng Yao and recognizes him as his peer from the get go, going so far as to refer to himself by his own name (“Xichen”) just to reinforce their equality, it’s no wonder JGY was instantly drawn to him. I would go so far as to say he probably fell for LXC right from the start; doesn’t even matter if it might be only in the platonic sense, man was smitten no matter how anyone chooses to categorize his feelings.

XianQing? No thank you

When I first watched this episode, I still had the stormy cloud of fear that Wen Qing would eventually be the love interest that comes in between Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji hanging over me due to some rumors I came across prior to even watching the show. As a result, every time Wen Qing and WWX would have a scene together, I would view it with trepidation as I was certain it was yet another building block to something undesirable, with the ultimate goal of mutating the relationship at the core of MDZS. If I’m going to be honest, I don’t think I was even able to rest easy until after Wen Qing’s passing and knowing for certain that the “danger period” was finally over, even though I had already grown to like her character. I still have complaints about how they altered her personality for the live action, but at least now, when I watch the scenes she shares with Wei Ying, instead of being filled with anxiety, I am actually more fascinated. I can still see the ghost of what Team CQL had initially intended with Wen Qing and WWX in a lot of their scenes together, before the fans’ uproar thankfully forced the producers to change their minds and stick with the source material.  This scene wasn’t one of those moments, but with revisiting each episode, I actually look forward to picking out which scenes were feeding into their ship because of the way they were shot and how the two actors were directed to perform during the scene, especially Meng Ziyi. I’m glad I can actually sit back and have fun with all of this now.  

XianNing? I can’t

I can see why some folks support this ship, and upon first viewing I thought this was a cute moment as well, but of course, I simply can’t go there since my heart already belongs to WangXian. And now, after having read the novel, all I could think about is how much I wish we got the archery contest at the Cultivation Conference. I’m glad we got to see it depicted in the donghua; it was as amazing as I hope it would be, but it’s a shame we didn’t get to see it in the drama. Since the producers had mentioned releasing specials of extra scenes that they couldn’t fit into the flow of the show, I hope the archery contest will be one of them. I don’t know where it would fit in in the timeline though…I guess it could happen while they were all held hostage at Nightless City, so the reason for the archery contest will have to be changed, but then maybe that’s the impetus for Wen Chao’s decision to force everyone on that dangerous quest to the Xuanwu cave: he’s so pissed off at losing at archery on his own turf that he decides to try to get all the sect kids killed.  Either way, I hope we get to see the contest in live action form one day.

Wei Wuxian is so smart

I loved this scene. I love how WWX schooled everyone with his inventive fourth reason. He’s so awesome. That’s really all I wanted to say about it.  

Random Bits of Randomness

I don’t think there’s anything wrong the color function on my tv, so please explain to me how that can be considered “purple” in any universe??

All I could think about in this scene is how disgusting that fish must have tasted cuz it looked awful, and I think Xiao Zhan even mentioned in an interview that it was gross. What probably made it taste worse was the fact that he kept on eating it from the stomach side, which can be really bitter. I think Wang Zhuocheng (Jiang Cheng) was eating it from the same side as well and I just can’t help grimacing every time I see this moment.

Odds and Ends:

I don’t really have any questions from this episode, but I did wonder if Wen Qing ever actually attended classes while she was at Cloud Recesses or did she just spend all of the time wandering the back hills, throwing her needles at barriers, cuz that’s not suspicious AT ALL. Unless I just happened to have missed her every single time in class, even though you would think it’s easy to spot her red in a sea of white…if that’s the case then I probably need to get my eyes checked.

Also, I wish we got to see Shijie draw her sword. She carried it around in the beginning, but I’m kinda bummed that we never saw her actually use it. I’m sure she is completely capable and would’ve looked just as badass as the boys.

And bless Uncle Lan for his brilliant idea of making Lan Zhan enforce the disciplinary action on Wei Ying, thereby allowing the boys to have valuable alone time in the library pavilion to further nurture their bond. In retrospect he probably regrets that decision, but as far as I’m concerned, that’s one of his best one he’s ever made.

The Untamed Episode 46, My Commentary!

Spoilers, and several big emotional reveals, and it was all just so perfect!

Ohhhh JGY/QS’s son had to die or it would have turned out messed up like Joffrey then. Got it.

Yikes, everyone wants to kill JGY now. This is all too easy, isn’t it? Something feels off…

Someone is setting this up in order to take power afterwards, it seems like?

Can we go back to the pier and see happy scenes with WN and his baby Yuan?

WWX went to pay his respects to his late adoptive family, and JC told him he didn’t belong there. JYL would be soooo ashamed of you.

They’re trying to walk away and JC keeps attacking with the Zidian. This sucks.

Wow, WN is so smart, I did NOT give him enough credit. If JC can unsheath WWX’s sword, THE MOST IMPORTANT REVEAL OF ALL TIME THAT I’VE WAITED FOR FOR MORE THAN 16 YEARS WILL HAPPEN.

Lordy, LWJ is holding WWX’s lifeless body with a beautiful flowered tree behind them. It’s a gorgeous shot and yet somehow it’s not at the forefront of my attention span because this scene has so much.

So WN told JC while WWX was unconscious nearby in LWJ’s arms. This is some good shit.

Sometimes I don’t think WWX actually understands the depth of LWJ’s love for him, because he’s frequently caught off guard by LWJ caving and giving him what he wants and like, as the viewer it’s simultaneously sweet and infuriating to see him kind of in the dark.

Ok first of all, yibo is so pretty wtf and he dances so well and his Lan zhan was perfect. Second of all, I miss seeing shinee on stage. Third of all...will I ever understand what's going on in taemin's mind?

Oh, one more thing! This gifset of Lan Zhan fighting? I can't stop looking at his hair, those hair flips are so dramatique, so gay, so him.

Yibo is indeed so very pretty. He's up there on my personal list of pretty people I love to gaze at. (The list doesn't reay have an order, but, Key is number one. No surprises there, but Key is the prettiest. Forever & always.) Also, I was lowkey shook at how good of a dancer he is, not gonna lie. The gifs I've been seeing on my dash of his appearance in that show (Street Dance China??) are amazing. So multi-talented!

His Lan Zhan was just *chef's kiss*.

How he said so much whilst saying so little?! It must have been so hard to portray all those subtle emotions, and make you feel them y'know? The eye acting alone? Some of the best I've seen. Never have I screamed over a character very very slightly whirling their lips upward and yelled 'Look at how wide hes smiling!' He definitely did the character justice (also while we're here, shout out to Xiao Zhan for his Wei Wuxian. God, the amount of lines he had to learn alone is impressive, because we all know, that Wei Wuxian, does not stop talking. Let alone the rest of his performance. Amazing. They killed it. I miss them 😭).

Anon.....the way I will literally lose my shit once the boys are all back on stage together. I cannot explain it. I can't wait. I miss them so so so much, and by the sounds of it, they miss each other a lot too. Their next comeback is going be so good.

What are all them from super vocal up to now? Are any of them still friends?

I’m not that aware of every each one of them to be honest, but. Yes, some of them are still friends! Also, this is only s1 cast, because I haven’t finished s2 yet;

As the latest example off the top of my head and some photo reference, Li Qi and Chuanzi attended the Musical Award Ceremony in August to support their SV friends :) Yunlong, Yu Di, Fang Shujian, Huang Zhihongfan, Liang Pengjie, Jia Fan, Lu Yupeng, Gong Ziqi, Jin Shengquan, Ding Hui, Zhai Lishuotian, and Liu Binhao, were all performing there for various nominations from their respective musicals. (I might have missed someone, I used a pic I had saved from that day for ref lol)

As for what they are up to now... Well, all of them are busy with their respective stuff, the aforementioned guys performing in the musicals that got nominated aside, from the rather recent things for 2020:

Wan Kai and Chuanzi were recently confirmed for the same musical (Begone Love/当爱已成往事);

Ding Hui is gonna be part of My Bucket List/我的遗愿清单 as Yang Xiaoyu, whom Ayunga performed as in 2017;

Jin Shengquan and Gong Ziqi are performing in Murder Ballad/谋杀歌谣 as Michael and Tom respectively. Yunlong played Michael in 2017;

Wang Xi has had an album out this year and a song with Vitas, which is hella nice btw;

Zhou Shen and Ayunga seem to be conquering TV media one episode at a time and even appeared on 乘風破浪的姐姐 together recently, but I’ve only skimmed through the episode for the singing parts haha; among many many things that I tragically do not often keep track of, Zhou Shen sang 无限, the Lost Tomb Reboot/重启之极海听雷 OST; recently, he had a song out, 我是你的谁, which is just-- wonderful.

Ayunga had an album out as well, and there are more songs announced to come out in October; he is also now part of the Phantom of the Opera audiodrama; there were streams, interviews and various TV show appearances this year; he and Yunlong filmed an episode for a CCTV show, where they performed 过千帆, but the episode never aired. The song itself was recently released on Kugou as part of the show and is supposed to be part of the official CD; also, he was part of this year’s Perfect Summer show. Currently, he is working on a musical that is set for the end of the year, 在远方. It is based on the drama by the same name, and he is working on it alongside Xiao Jie, who was his teacher at Beiwu (he made an appearance in the end of SV s1);

Yunlong stared in a drama during the summer, hosted and performed at the Musicals Award Ceremony in August, had an ice-cream stream, an actors workshop of sorts with Liu Lingfei and other prominent actors, tried out Beijing Opera makeup, and also was the guest star at Lingfei’s rock-concert, where he performed various Bon Jovi songs and also tried on a dress. He recorded several songs for dramas: 我心情不太好  for My strange friend/我的奇怪朋友, which stars Wang Yibo;  莫失莫忘 for The Song Of Glory/锦绣南歌; 寻光 for Serenade of Peaceful Joy/清平乐;  他们说 for The Great Ruler/北灵少年志之大主宰. He also performed in Shanghai for an episode of a show that is supposed to some out soon/already came out yesterday, I’m a bit fuzzy on this one. There are rumours that he is going to be part of some musical set at the end of the year, but nothing clear yet.

As you can see, I have favourites... :’D I don’t keep track of all 36 of them because that’s just humanly impossible. tbh, I feel like I mostly keep track of Yunlong, because he runs around less than Ayunga does, and also I’m more interested in musicals/music than anything else, so I don’t really watch variety shows unless they has performances included lol.
