#4. Red Room Girls. Ultron.
Tumblr media
Red Room Girls Series. Previous | Next
Summary:  You have a normal life as a fan of Marvel, you have seen the movies and imagined scenarios in which you were a part of the Avengers, met Bucky, joked with Tony, trained with Natasha, but one day this dream comes true in the weirdest way. Have you hit your head or something? Becuase you seem to be in the MCU, not just that…it could be that you have been all along.
“Would you look at that?” You heard a voice.
You opened your eyes, feeling like the world around moved slowly. At the door, a blonde waited with her hands on her hips. She wore a suit like yours. Your head was sore and you felt confused as you turned your head on the uncomfortable pillow.
“Mari?” You whispered the name of your best friend.
The girl smiled to the side and opened her arms.
“The one and only!” She stared for a moment. “Are you okay?”
You shook your head and picked yourself up on your elbows.
“Do you know what’s going on?”
Mari sighed and turned to the hall for a second.
“I could take a guess, looks a lot like Age of Ultron.” She warned and motioned to her hair. “And I have blonde hair because I didn’t take the wig off…don’t say it!” She complained, pointing at you with a finger.
You looked down and pushed yourself forward to sit down on the edge of the bed.
“Do you have any…memories?” You wondered.
Mari nodded and rushed to your side after peeking outside, she grabbed your arm and looked worried.
“But we have to get out now, they’re at their party and you know what happens after that.”
You had one more thing to ask, you just needed to know. With a raised brow you found your friend’s eyes.
“You’ve seen the dance academy too, haven’t you?”
Mari’s brown eyes changed the slightest, but knowing them, you could see the same fear you felt creeping through them for a second.
“I have.”
After a single moment of silence, you grabbed your friend’s arm and followed her out to the hall to find the vent she had used to sneak into the Avengers tower. The two of you jumped into the vent and crawled until you found an exit near the big room where the Avengers were already chilling.
“Wait.” Mari stopped you when she reached to open the vent. “Not yet.”
You put your hand down without making any noise.
“Where were you all this time?” You whispered, curiosity taking the best of you.
Mari smiled.
“I was busy with Carter Baizen.” She winked over dramatically.
You rolled your eyes and you had to wait for a while longer, watching the Avengers struggle as they tried to pick up Mjolnir. You and your friend had to sit inside the vent and wait, already knowing there was going to be trouble; first with Ultron and then with you two being there.
“Do you know what’s happening?” You asked your best friend.
You found it strange that she had silver blonde hair, it did not compliment her skin colour the way her natural brunette hair did, but that was the way she looked at the moment; so you forced yourself to look past that.
Mari sighed.
“Yeah.” You turned to look at her. “See, everything is happening for real. So don’t get killed.”
You glared.
“And as far as I know, this is another universe or dimension or something, we have a role to play here…we have to play along,” Mari told you. “It’s… I don’t know exactly, maybe Thor knows something about it.”
“Can we warn them about Ultron?” You whispered.
Mari shook her head no.
“We have to play along.” She repeated. “We don’t know what could happen if we interfere somewhere we are not supposed to…”
You interrupted, catching the idea.
“They almost fuck up this one, remember?” Mari pointed out. “Ultron’s a little bitch.”
You looked around inside the vent and then peeked outside. Nothing made sense, you wanted to know exactly what was going on, instead of asking more about it, you decided to play the game she had already settled on playing.
“I can’t believe they’re not done yet…it all happened so fast in the movie…”
Mari agreed and a second later she slapped your arm in a playful manner.
“What the fuck?” You mumbled, to which Mari giggled.
“What are you gonna do about your c-r-u-s-h on the man himself?” She suddenly asked. “Steve Rogers?”
You shrugged with a slight blush on your cheeks. It was something you had not even had a chance to think about, you’d always had a big crush on Captain America, although it was something rather childish when you thought about it; he was a superhero and if it was real at the time, you would never get a chance while Sharon Carter was anywhere near Steve. You shook your head to push the thought aside.
“I dunno… Nothing!” You looked back at the opening of the vent. “He is kinda big in person, and scary too… and-wait!”
There was an odd sound outside, the two of you turned to look and squeezed together near the small opening to look at the robot in the hall.
“That’s…”
“Yeah,” Mari confirmed. “Do you remember anything about our training?”
You nodded. While you tried to sleep you remembered more than you thought was necessary, everything about a childhood you had lived in this alternative universe came rushing to your mind. You still felt quite dizzy, although it was useful information now that you were going to need to remember most of the things you supposedly learned as a little girl.
“How could you be worthy?” Ultron said and the Avengers remained silent. “You’re all killers.”
“Stark…” Steve said.
“Jarvis…”
You looked at each other, but it was Mari who held you back, shaking her head no to tell you not to go yet.
“What mission?” Natasha asked.
“Peace in our time,” Ultron said.
“Now!”
Mari and you jumped out of the vent in time to see the other machines fly out behind the first one. In a heartbeat you split up and went to find whatever robots you could, they were all Tony’s suits acting on Ultron’s influence and they were going to make a big mess.  Mari ran to the sceptre to try and keep it safe as she knew Ultron was going to try to take it. She managed to kick one of the suits, but the sceptre was taken and she was thrown into the air by the amazing force of a robotic arm. In the meantime you rushed to find Hawkeye, shooting at the robots with your Beretta before reaching him. You looked at each other but there was no time to say anything, you turned to one of the glass screens and the two of you had to jump through it to stay out of the way of the suits.
“Where’s cap’s shield?” You asked and watched Hawkeye running to get it.
“Hey, Cap!” He yelled as he threw the shield in Steve’s direction.
Steve was able to use his shield and take the last robot down before Ultron could speak again.
“That was dramatic,” Ultron said.
He started going on about how humanity was supposed to evolve in order to survive, all of the Avengers straightened up and listened with raised brows and confused expressions. You found Mari standing across the room, she picked herself up with the help of Dr Cho.
Thor finally had it and used Mjolnir to destroy the tattered robot Ultron was using to speak at that time, he came down and sang in a low voice.
“I had strings, but now I’m free.”
You and Mari looked at each other from the distance and Hawkeye pointed at you over his shoulder.
“I need some explanations.” He simply commented.
“We,” Maria turned her gun in Mari’s direction, “need some explanations.”
You sighed and turned to Steve as if to ask for help, knowing you were not going to get it as you were asking for him to get in a difficult position. Luckily, Mari had thought about it first. The young blonde put her hands up and turned to Maria.
“Okay, alright…” Mari tilted her head to the side. “My friend Y/N and I are independent agents, are you gonna put that down? It’s very disrespectful.”
“Independent what?” Rhodey said.
You sighed, jumping in on something you did not understand completely.
“We don’t work for anyone, we’re just…” She looked up at the ceiling, “we’re just trying to figure things out.”
“We are here to help,” Mari brought her hand to her head and saluted Captain America. “Although I served a long time ago, I’m reporting for duty.” She winked and you rolled your eyes, trust your best friend to be like that. “Ehem, Y/N?”
“I…”
You closed your eyes and bowed your head in embarrassment, the things you did for your best friend.
“Reporting for duty!” You made a less enthusiastic salute and turned to Hawkeye. “In all seriousness, you need to check up on your info, that guy was in your system, right?”
Tony and Banner looked at each other and led the rest of the team upstairs to their small lab. You and Mari were still being watched by Maria and Natasha, who trusted you the least.
“Where did you two come out of?” Maria asked.
She recognised their skill, but not their faces. They could not be former shield agents.
“Brightstone Institution.” Both of you responded automatically.
The Avengers reached the lab and started working on the computers, trying to find where Ultron went and how he got control over Tony’s suits.
“All our work is gone.” Banner said. “Ultron cleared out. He used the internet.”
It was a little painful for the two of you to watch the Avengers come to the true issue, Banner explained to Steve that what Ultron did to Jarvis was an act of rage, and Thor came out dressed to impress. He pulled Tony up with one hand and put him down when Captain approached. He was angry about the sceptre, which was now gone. Thor’s gaze fell on Mari and she folded her arms over her chest.
“Now we have to retrieve it. Again.” Thor instructed.
You put a hand on your friend’s shoulder and waited for the team to discuss the matter.
“But, that up there…that’s the endgame,” Tony said. “How are you guys planning on beating that?”
“Together.” You mouthed to Mari at the same time as Steve said it.
The blonde rolled her eyes and pushed your hand off her shoulder.
“We’ll lose.” Tony and Steve looked into each other’s eyes, the thing looked like something straight out of a slash fic.
“Then we’ll do that together too,” Steve reassured his friend.
“That’s so gay…” Mari whispered.
“I wish I had popcorn.” You replied, Mari looked back at you with a side smile, but she couldn’t say anything else.
Captain quickly straightened up and turned to you and your best friend with that authoritarian look on his face.
“So you wanna help? What can you do?” He wondered.
Mari turned over her shoulder to look at you and you put your hands on your chest, raising a brow at your friend, lifting your chin you encouraged her to speak up.
At that moment, some memories pulled you back to a time when Mari’s hair was pulled into a tight ponytail to allow her to put on the protective glasses. You saw the hall you were walking through, the long corridor you followed at the moment; in the lab, the blonde was seemingly testing something that looked like a tiny grenade.
In the present, your friend put her hands on her belt, filled with gadgets and artefacts of all sorts that you struggled to list down in your head.
“Anything,” Mari said.
The captain frowned slightly and then looked at you, there was no need for him to ask again, you knew what he wanted to hear, and you told him.
“Everything.” You said.
Mari snorted and you saw her roll her eyes from the corner of yours.
Steve said that you should rest, encouraging everyone else to do the same, although most of the others went on to find more information about Ultron. He left with Natasha following him.
You saw Tony and Banner stay behind to check the rest of the computers while you and your best friend walked down the stairs as well, avoiding the broken glass.
“You do know Natasha probably is onto us?” Mari asked.
You looked at Mari and nodded.
“She wouldn’t be her if she wasn’t.” You reasoned. “I guess that’s why she put me in that cell.”
You walked to the elevator together.
“What are you doing with Dr Chris Beck?” You wondered and watched her blush. “You. Do. Not!”
As you reached the elevator, your best friend nodded, her eyes glued to the ground. You smiled and giggled like a teenage girl, you stared at the metal doors and pushed the button to your floor.
“He’s a mess…” She muttered with her eyes on one of the walls. “Trying to remember and all…”
