Hey! I’ve recently gotten back into WOF and wanted to try drawing some of the characters! Who do you guys think I should draw first?
I think I might just take their in-book descriptions and see if i can draw em from memory or at least stylized, we’ll see!
Here’s an old tribe redesign I did that I’ll use as an example. No promises they’ll get this detailed since this is just for fighting artblock but hey, you never know!

I HATE the Starflight x Fatespeaker ship. Hell, I don’t even like Fatespeaker in general.
First, let me start with why I don’t like Fatespeaker. She’s Walmart Sunny. I love Tui as a writer, but she tried so hard to make Fatespeaker like Sunny that it just comes off disingenuous. Not to mention her being convinced she’s a prophet is SO annoying. I’m not gonna sit here and defend the false dragonets of destiny. They were abusive as shit. But Fatespeaker constantly tempting them with ideas of food while they were starving on the volcano was honestly annoying me. She was not helping their starvation. Not to mention that she had known Starflight for less than a week, but already seemed to feel entitled to him. When he reunited with his friends and was excited to see Sunny, and Fatespeaker was jealous. WHY???? She cannot feel jealous when he reunites with his friends! That’s not fair!
And that moves me to Fatespeaker x Starflight… Sunnyflight is better tbh. They have more chemistry and history. Fatespeaker also feels way too possessive of him. I feel like Tui really did ship Sunnyflight, but knew it probably wouldn’t work out, so she just made a knockoff Sunny substitute. I feel like a way to have made me ship it was if Fatespeaker was almost the opposite of Sunny. Still a good person, but maybe a bit more aggressive, but still caring. Maybe someone who could maybe make Starflight realize that Sunny isn’t his type rather than give him what feels like ‘the next best thing’.

Can we hear more about the royal Seawing couple and their Issues tm?? I’m new here but DAMG if that isn’t such an enticing hook already…
absolutely!!! and dw about being new, I havent really gone in-depth on my au yet so im glad to talk about it :] one bit of lore before I start: the war started in 4996. in 4999, an absolute massacre of a battle convinced gill to pull the seawings out of the war, and he moved the whole kingdom underwater. coral backed him on this. this event is also when gill got all torn up, he was captured by burn & scarlet and very nearly killed before he could escape! orca tried to kill coral a few months after all this happened.
soooo anyhow! the way I handle the queens in my au is like a series of parables about ruling a kingdom. gill and coral are monarchs who let their own beliefs & feelings get in the way of being proper rulers.
gill believes firmly in the prophecy and wants to one-up the other kingdoms, especially burn's allies. when the dragonets of destiny bumble into his kingdom, he sees them as leverage against the others, who need them to end the war. he's also controlling and wants everything to go his way. In other news, he has a loose alliance with blister- he's agreed to back her if she wins but refuses to give her access to his army. she believes she can draw him back into the war. their relationship is tense and strange. blister would kill him, actually, if he weren't the door to an incredibly powerful army that she's convinced she can get back on the battlefield.
meanwhile, coral has lost 6 eggs to the statue and is stricken with grief and paranoia over it. she's very wary of anyone involved with the hatchery. at first her and tsunami are very close, but various things - her many neglected sons, torturing a hatchery guard, etc - drive them apart. coral has complicated relationships with all of her children, actually, but especially with anemone, turtle, and tsunami. she eventually improves, but that doesn't come until later (if I were to rewrite arc 2 it'd be a big part of turtle's story).
final note: yes, gill is still alive in the lost heir! tsunami killed her brother prince seal in the arena instead.
thank you so much for asking! I have sooooo much stuff for this lmao, im very excited to share

LOOK I DID IT! I FINALLY DID IT! And yes I KNOW I changed my design a whole bunch but I got inspired by some different people about their designs and I just wanna show people my designs and yeah. I know I changed some, like Blaze's so TOTALLY different from my first time drawling her for this month's pride. But ya'know things change and you become more bold. Also I tried making them all look related by using the same red pallet for all of them. So they all use the same general red pallet although Burn's has some more orange in it. Also I tried to make them look similar while also looking different from each other. Like I wanted them to look related but also stand out against each other. Also all of them use gradients as well to make them look similar and related. Although I'm not sure if they look related enough, then again I don't want them to look like clones. Also this inspires me to draw King Char and Queen Oasis then the Dragonets of Destiny together like wowie. --- Blaze's Design: - Changed her a WHOLE bunch and got inspired by some cool artists - I based her off the coloring of a Strawberry (I literally took colors off of a png of a Strawberry so she's a berry bean) - I made her even darker then my original design. Got inspired by oleandy for this! Bc they hc Blaze as melanistic and I was like 'I want to do that BUT different' so yeah she looks like strawberry jam. - Blaze has some light streaks in her fan/frill. I got this idea from G0LDENGUTS . I just loved the idea although I didn't want to use blue, instead the pale pink she has on her tummy so it seemed more cohesive. - Blaze has curly frill/fan although it's mostly crinkly. Only the bits my her eyes are curly and that's bc she styles them. Got this idea from Spookapi . They gave her more flame like hair and I was insired to go a bit more crazy so yeah. - Blaze has blue crystals and diamond as jewelry bc Queen Glacier gave it to her as their first date gift. Blaze is not caught dead without these on her. - Blaze also always wears a coat made of Icewing fur! And don't worry, it's not from a dead one. Icewings actually shed like cats and dogs and other furry creatures and even style their fur. So Blaze saved the fur and got it sown into a nice warm coat. - Blaze wears very extravagant mascara. She is VERY extra. - Have her some simple stripe markings on her scales to make her and Blister look cohesive/related. - Everything else is really the same for what I hc with her. Blister's Design: - I've never drawn Blister but I wanted her to still be pale. So I decided to add the lightest color on Blaze and use it as the base color for Blister. Then adding a gradient of light pinks to almost white. - I made her horns more exaggerated, making the spikes thin and long and the horns/spikes themselves just longer in general. I did this to try and give her a off appearance as it is rare for Sandwings to have long, thing horns. - She still has black diamonds although her's are simplified as I thought she already had so many going on with her. - She has pink freckles on her small belly scales and next to her eyes, I did this to tie her in with Burn as Burn also has freckles. - Her Sandwing frill/fan has streaks of black and pink while also having a gradient from almost white to black. I did this to also tie her in with Burn as she has a gradient on her frill as well. - She has a double set of canines - She's thin, long and boney. No muscle on this dragoness Burn's Design: - I made her nose horn bigger to give her a more rhino look. - If Burn wasn't albino she'd actually look alot like Blaze but with lots of freckles and normal colored eyes. - Everything else is the same, yeah I didn't change much about her tbh. GOD this took FOREVER but I am SO FREAKING PROUD. Like I could probably flip a table rn but I won't bc it's almost midnight and I'd pull a muscle and regret all my live choices lol. Anyway enjoy my designs! <3 --- *Please do not talk to me about drama in the fandoms I make art in. I can't handle with drama to well.* *You can use my headcannons, and you do not need to credit me for headcannons* *You can use my designs but you must credit me for my designs*

Fanfiction Recommendations
Just a few of my personal favorite Wings of Fire fanfictions. I'm going to try and keep them organized but no promises.
Also please give these fics love by leaving a review. They are honestly really good and lot of them have like maybe five reviews at the most. I'm trying to get better at leaving reviews myself. It is so important to make sure they know it is being enjoyed by others.
If anyone has a fic they don't see on here let me know since I might have forgotten it or not read it yet. Thank you and enjoy!
Shipping
Healed by @sandshadow
Summary: Flame has a lot of issues and has been sent away to the healing center in the Sky Kingdom to deal with them. The last dragons he expected, or wanted, to see there were Umber and Sora. As Flame spends more time in the healing center, and with Umber, he starts to heal in more ways than one. But can he overcome the hate that's been growing in him for so long? T for coarse language.
A personal favorite of mine. And Flumber has quickly become a favorite pairing of mine in this fandom. The only problem I have is there's not a lot of Flumber outside of this fic. But that's okay since there has been an addition to the lore (is that the right word here?) of the fic with an adorable two-shot that takes place a little bit after the events of this fic.
But on other news it's honestly just a good character piece as well. Umber and Flame get great focus and we also get to see Sora again. And there's therapy. Honest to goodness these characters are getting therapy. Praise the Moon's!!!!
10/10 will read again. (Honestly its become one of my therapy fics that I read when I get upset. 😆)
Embracing Peril by Ilral (for the life of me I couldn't find out if there was a Tumblr for them so please let me know so I can add it onto this post.)
Summary: Peril always knew she was different, of course, but it still surprised her just how many ways the world came up with to make her distant. Oh well, at least Clay is here now to buoy her up. And they might just have more in common than she realizes...
A pretty good Cleril fic that deals with a lot of potential prejudices the dragon society might have. A lot of these aren't my headcanons but I can still appreciate the work that went into the fic. And the characters are written pretty well. I like seeing Clay and Peril as an established couple.
A perfect example of it being possible to enjoy a fic even if you don't necessarily share all of the same headcanons as the author.
How to Dance with Rainwings by @quasimagical
Summary: Deathbringer had never anticipated the harsh reality of being pushed away by the love of his life. But when the RainWing queen presents him with a new assignment, he finds himself trapped in the middle of an even more puzzling predicament. AU.
OMG. It's a Jambringer fic. Honestly this one is really cute and I totally ship it. Just a warning Glorybringer isn't the only ship the author breaks up. And while I personally don't ship all the ships they went with I'm the type of person who can still roll with it. Haha.
Another issue is it actually has not been finished but from what I've heard the author does plan on picking it up again sooner or later. But it's definitely worth a read. It's good to see a Deathbringer fic where he is actually treated as a character and not... Well you know exactly what I'm talking about.
Anyway give it a read and review! It's worth it. :)
The Prince and the Body Guard by @a-croissant (based off of their bio on ffnet so hopefully that's right.)
Summary: A oneshot between Turtle and Pike. When Turtle notices that Anemone gets rid of Pike, and Pike runs away, he decides to go after him.
That's right it's a Pike/Turtle one shot. Low key this is really cute. That's kind of all I have to say about it. I ship it and it's adorable.
Character Fics
Winter: A Character Study/Faded Portraits by @sandshadow
Summary: Winter lies awake thinking of everything he's done wrong. The family he disappointed, the love he lost, and the friends he pushed away, but as the night wears on he comes to a new realization about himself.
Wow! Two @sandshadow fics on the list? What?!
Nah but seriously guys this is potentially one of my favorite fics in the fandom. Because I don't know if you know this but I am a Winter fan. And I am still bitter about how he was treated at the end of DoD.
(Also if I have to read any more Winterwatcher fics about him apologizing to Moon for being reasonably upset about a legitimately traumatic experience I am going to scream. )
Anyway. This is what I wish his epilogue in DoD had been. Read it for yourself. Leave a review... I practically an essay myself. My bad. 😅
Winter Returning by Fatespeaker (I can't find a Tumblr for this author so if anyone knows please let me know so I can add it to this post.)
Summary: A week before Icicle's trial, Winter returns to the Ice Kingdom for a very awkward visit. Tensions are high. Old conflicts have resurfaced. With his tribe still reeling from the recent disaster, his family destroyed, and a complicated friendship to deal with, Winter is left picking up the pieces of his old life...and discovering hope for a new one.
Surprise, surprise. It's another Winter fic. I love this boy so much.
Honestly this is done pretty well and we also get to see Winter interact with his family some more as well as getting to see him face some of his own trauma.
It's angsty in all of the best ways.
Aftermath by Fatespeaker (this author has some pretty good stuff honestly.)
Summary: When it comes to living family, Starflight definitely got the short end of the stick. He's kept his distance from his mad scientist father. Well-meaning Fatespeaker wants to help her friend by interviewing Mastermind, but even the briefest of conversations can dredge up uncomfortable truths. War is complicated...its aftermath is messier still.
Kudos to the author for touching on a pretty controversial character. I mean I completely understand why people dislike him. But I can't help it. The fact that his first thought when meeting Starflight was "look at my beautiful boy isn't he astounding!" It was just so refreshing in all the best ways.
I knew the shoe would drop, and what a shoe it was, but I still have a weird fondness for him. And don't fuss me. People can like characters who did horrible things and the thing is I think he's not beyond saving. It will be a lot of work but its possible.
Mastermind- The Scientist and Mastermind- The Monster by The Friendly Space Marine (Again. I don't know if there is a Tumblr for this author. I am so sorry.)
Summary: Mastermind. The NightWing who would become infamous for experimenting on live RainWing subjects. But what is the story behind Starflight's often demonised father? Why did he do it? What drove him to such lengths?
Mastermind. The NightWing embodiment of the mad scientist archetype. A dragon held in contempt by his own son. A monster responsible for unspeakable crimes against the RainWings. What made him do it? Did he ever truly realise the gravity of his actions?
I really like this take on the character! It adds a new layer to him that nobody really wants to acknowledge or see which I think comes back to the fact that people want to always see characters as good or bad. And I've already stated that I hate that mindset. Like... Wow, people with that mindset must live in a very boring and frankly cold world. I'm sorry for your loss.
Story Driven
Stories that are a little more story driven. Although some are very character-based too so this was kind of hard for me separate. Anyway enjoy!
Finding Peace by @warriorofspectra (for some reason it won't link. I don't understand Tumblr!!!)
Summary:Peacemaker has enjoyed a happy seven years. Raised by his mother and living amongst the RainWing and NightWing Tribes, he would ask for no better life. But with the emergence of nightmares, which have grown increasingly vivid upon arriving at the Jade Mountain Academy, Peacemaker begins to question whether or not the life he lives truly is his own or the shadow of another.
Ey... I already talked about this one before but it's definitely up there as one of my favorite fanfictions and probably my favorite Peacemaker fanfiction.
I don't even want to say anything in too much detail because it's just too good. All you need to know is the characters are great, including OCs. Peacemaker is adorable and almost makes me feel bad for hating the strawberry scene... Almost. Seriously just read it. And then take a peak at the authors side drabble series from POV of the other characters. There's one about Winter that I read just because it makes me so happy to see him again. Agh!
In the Light of the Moon's by Qebui (which is actually a group of people. So I have no clue if there are any Tumblrs associated or not)
Summary: We know the Dragonets of Destiny. Five dragons hatched on brightest night. However, what if the dragonets had hatched in the moonlight instead?
That's right we got a thrice born Starflight and Sunny Fanfiction. Not too much to say about this one. I just love this concept and I like what the authors are doing with it. :D
And... I think that's pretty much it. Wow, this was a lot of hard work. But fun. Lots of fun. And it was good coming back to some of these. Again if there was any I missed please let me know and I will glad I do an updated list adding them to it.
Thanks so much and see ya next time!

Since you really liked getting these before, I'll send some more! Animus, Egg, Jade Mountain, Scavenger, and Prophecy
EXCELLENT.
Animus - Do you have any WoF OCs?:
AHAHA YEAH!! Technically speaking I have literally H U N D R E D S of them. I don’t refer to it much, but I have another Wings of Fire blog that’s also a Moana crossover. It’s purely a combination between WoF and Lalotai, the main story (which I have yet to write) being set 700 years before Darkstalker was born! And it’s not just “Moana but with dragons”- this is everyone from Moana is a dragon and are placed in the tribes that I feel suit them best. And the majority of my OCs are tied into that! Ranging from queens all the way down to newborn dragonets! Of course I have a few OCs for this blog too, though they don’t appear all that much.
On top of the crossover though, I’ve recreated each character’s backstory to fit the Wings of Fire universe, and even combined and created NEW elements to create stories and worlds that can hold up on their own while also melding together. Within these stories and separate arcs are inherently hundreds and even thousands of OCs when you think of the vast scope of things, and I’ve named, described, and also hinted at well over 30 of them through roleplaying and discussion with my gal pal @white-fire-the-dragon. I’ve even drawn and colored a few for commission work before!I’m actually extremely proud of the extensive world/character building, which I can continue to explore through asks and roleplays. If you want to go check it out, it’s over at @dragon-tamatoa !
And some other crossover OCs I have are based on Shakespeare’s play The Tempest. I put together a whole college project for that one. Again it was set more in the Wings of Fire universe, and was built up in a similar fashion to the WoF/Moana AU. Though that’s an entirely different post that I may look into writing up later.
Egg - Favorite and least favorite chracters?:
Well, for least favorites, I have a lot. Of course I’ve already mentioned Allknowing, Queen Vigilance, and Queen Wasp in a prior ask about how much I wanted them to die. But two of my least favorite characters are Burn from arc one and Belladonna from arc three. Honestly Burn just sickens me to no end that she would taxidermy her own kind. And Belladonna being the manipulative viper she is really makes me utterly despise her in particular.
As for favorite characters, Darkstalker is certainly no secret. Though a couple of my other favorites are Queen Coral and Thorn. Before she was queen I felt Thorn was a truly wholesome character, especially due to her fair and caring nature. As for Queen Coral, yes she has her weird and undesirable quirks, but I have to say that out of all the other living parents of the Dragonets of Destiny (not including Thorn) she was the least horrible. And she actually seemed like she genuinely wanted to do the best for her tribe and her daughter.
Jade Mountain - Which character is the most like you?:
Y’know, there are a couple. I’m definitely like Cricket due to the avid reading, problem-solving, wanting-to-see-the-best-in-others kind of nature as well as her keen interest in the whole truth. AND I’m also like Tsunami in a lot of ways minus her bossiness and impulsivity.
Scavenger - Your favorite headcanons?:
There is one in particular I would personally LOVE to have canon, and that’s Peacemaker having dreams and/or nightmares about his former self. And I’ve come across dozens of cultural headcanons for the tribes that are beautiful and wonderful world-building material.
Prophecy - Which arc is your favorite? Which book?:
Funnily enough, my favorite arc was the first one! And my favorite book was The Lost Heir. It’s kind of a not-so-complex reason honestly and kind of silly, but one of the big reasons I love the second book so much is because I’m the kind of person that loves naturally shiny and glittery sparkly things, including bioluminescence, and I also have a huge fascination and interest in the ocean.
The way I envisioned the Sea Kingdom was waaaay more complex and intricate than what was portrayed in the graphic novel. I also imagined Coral’s decorations of the palace and the kingdom being much more grandiose, but with the kind of natural beauty that the ocean already has to offer. So you can see why the two crossovers I have specifically involve the ocean.
That being said, Talons of Power was a very close second favorite for similar reasons.

Wait, isnt it just good writing when a character has opinions other than the authors? Like isnt that the point of writing villains and such? Why does tui have to support the ableist tropes she writes sorry I dont get it o.o
It can be good writing, yes. Pretty much any story with an antagonist relies on the author being able to write characters that have views different from their own.
The issue here, condensed because I can go on about this for a very long time, is that none of the characters in Wings of Fire have much in the way of opinions beyond Being The Protagonist And Doing What’s Right. Pretty much every character is... the equivalent to a cardboard cutout, especially in this scene.
I’m putting a break here because I’m going to go into detail, which... most of you won’t read, but I’m writing it anyway.
The main characters who are present for this conversation are Tsunami, Turtle, Qibli and Moonwatcher. What good characterization would be here would be, for examples;
Tsunami, who met Tamarin during the queen challenges and later likely saw her in passing frequently at JMA, is surprised that Anemone is making that kind of spell, because she hasn’t noticed Tamarin having any issues with being blind. She doesn’t take either ‘side’ to the issue, but notes that Starflight has had more issue with his lost vision than Tamarin does, and considers having a talk with Anemone about what her powers should be used for.
Turtle, as someone who also has such powers, states outright that he doesn’t like magic being used like that; that it causes enough trouble when just healing injuries and it shouldn’t be used as a cure-all solution. He’s also worried that Anemone is using too much of her magic, even if it is under the only-for-good enchantment, and wants her to stop and consider her spells more just in case magic-induced madness is still a thing.
Qibli, having grown up in areas where fighting is common and injuries even more so, probably would also dislike Tamarin being cured - but he may feel that way because he’s seen worse injuries, and thinks that the results of violence should be addressed first. He has a focus on people being happy and working together; he’d probably see magic being used on someone who’s already happy as a waste. As someone who turned down the chance to be an animus, he probably also doesn’t see the point in using magic to ‘solve’ an issue that can be dealt with through more practical means.
Moonwatcher, having just seen her entire tribe brainwashed with magical gifts by a two thousand year old all-powerful genocidal manipulator, probably would be pretty set against anyone having any kind of magic used on them, especially without their explicit consent. I can’t fathom Moonwatcher as a character hearing about someone being enchanted out of the blue and not being super freaked out about it.
The issue with the writing here is that all of these characters, who all would have different views and opinions on this kind of spell, all just let it pass without comment. That’s not the characters having different opinions than the author - that’s the author not bothering to give the characters different opinions. None of them have any opinion about it, and that’s the problem; because these characters having the background they do should make them have opinions on this.
The issue here is that because none of the characters make any note of this, it means it was written in as a throw-away line. The characters weren’t meant to have a reaction to it; it was an example of a spell that Tui could use to show magic was no longer working. Right? The problem with that is that something like that isn’t a throwaway line. That’s a spell that has moral issues, which was used as a throwaway line, which is not challenged inside or outside of the text. Which means, by extension, Tui didn’t see ‘curing a disabled character’ as anything notable. Are you following so far?
There are infinite options that could have taken the place of Anemone’s spell that would have been genuine throw-away lines. Like... Anemone tried to fix a tear on one of Tamarin’s school bags, or something, and the tear didn’t mend. That would have fit the situation, and would have been both a nod to Anemone’s crush and an innocent, throw-away act with no moral complications. What it means is that Tui looked at Tamarin and Anemone, thought ‘what spells could Anemone do to help Tamarin?’ and what came to mind was curing her disability.
The context that the event is in and the brevity of the attention given to it show that Tui really didn’t consider it worth spending time on - that Anemone curing her crush’s disability, potentially against her will, wasn’t an event that needed any focus given to it. And that’s why the text reflects ableism on to Tui; because it’s written in a way where it’s not supposed to matter to the characters or to the readers.
And to divert back to characters having different opinions than the author, rather than this specific event; yes, characters having different opinions than the author is normal and shows good writing. Wings of Fire doesn’t have that; the conflict is pretty much always ‘I’m The Good Guy’ versus ‘I’m The Bad Guy’. Even in the third arc so far, the protagonists are the ones who think Violence Is The Bad Solution, but... they don’t expand on that.
A character who is an owned slave fighting the system that enslaves him should have a different opinion on violence than the slaveowner who Isn’t As Bad As The Others, but they don’t - and then the other slaves are portrayed as completely useless without the slaveowner’s help or as needlessly violent for wanting to kill their oppressors but that’s a whole other post that I’m going to get called out for later. The slavery plot of the third arc does not improve with The Hive Queen, guys, Blue and Swordtail literally spend most of the book disguised as Cricket’s slaves and it’s mentioned in passing like, once. Again, another post, for later, because I have a lot of words on that topic.
Anyways, yeah. Characters having different opinions is good! None of the characters in Wings of Fire have different opinions; they may have different motivations, or goals, but not opinions* - which means that the protagonists are all, by extension, echoing the author’s beliefs.
*The only ‘opinions’ shown to be different are those where a character thinks a species of dragon is useless / powerless / etc because they’ve been told that, and it’s later proven factually that that ‘opinion’ was incorrect and then once that knowledge is known, the ‘opinion’ of all characters in the know changes instantly. ‘RainWings are lazy and useless’ doesn’t count as a different opinion in the early books, because as soon as RainWings are shown to not be lazy and useless, those who see that change their opinion instantly and with no issue whatsoever. It’s also worth noting that it’s never the protagonist - the Dragonets of Destiny don’t ever think Glory is less capable than they are, Blue thinks from the start that Not All HiveWings Are Bad. Protagonists are inevitably right in their assumptions, pretty much every time.

The Pyrrhian Peace Summit
Sunny Tries to Change History
Little Newt carefully inspected Alba’s wounds. “Newt, can you prepare another goldenrod poultice?” she said. “I want to replace Alba’s bandages.”
“Got it,” said Big Newt, hurrying out of the tent.
“She’s really taken a liking to medicine, hasn’t she?” said Hope.
“Mhm,” said Clay. “Yesterday, she asked me if she could sign up for Herbs & Healing. She kept going on and on about what Newt had taught her. I think that’s the most I’ve ever heard her speak!”
“It’s really nice of you to let her help out,” said Sunny to Little Newt.
“Oh, it’s no problem!” she said. “I could really use the extra talon. Usually in the rainforest there’s three of us working together. Haha.”
The Newts had set up a temporary healer’s tent by the ampitheater, so they wouldn’t have to move Alba all the way to Jade Mountain. Despite the delay that morning, the last day of the conference had gone on, and all that was left were the closing remarks.
Snail appeared at the entrance, trailed by Marsh. “Excuse me. Sunny, could we talk to you for a moment?”
“Of course,” said Sunny. “How can I help you?”
Snail glanced at Marsh. “Maybe we should tell you in private.”
“Oh, okay,” Sunny said, exiting the tent. “I’ll be right back, Clay!”
“Uh-huh,” said Clay.
“Seeing all the kids here puts me in a good mood,” said Hope, smiling faintly. “They’re so cooperative.”
“Cooperative? What do you mean?” Clay said.
“Well, back when I was a dragonet… and I mean way back… you’d never see dragons of different tribes hanging out like that.” Hope shrugged. “It’s refreshing.”
Big Newt entered the tent again, holding a green mush in a cloth. “Here you go,” she said.
Little Newt sniffed the concoction. “Oh, Newt, this is marigold, not goldenrod.”
“Oh. My bad.”
“It’s okay! Here, let me show you.” Little Newt led the MudWing back out of the tent.
Hope laughed. “They’re good kids.”
* * *
“She wasn’t as angry as I thought she’d be,” said Snail.
“Are you kidding?” said Marsh, shivering. “I’ve never seen Sunny act like that. So cold and… disappointed.”
“You haven’t seen Queen Coral on her bad days,” said Snail. “Trust me. That wasn’t angry. If anything, she’s relieved that there isn’t actually a conspiracy going on.”
“As far as we know,” muttered Marsh.
Everyone had been crowded into a clearing for the final moments of the Pyrrhian Peace Summit, with only a wooden podium indicating that the event was a conference and not a large picnic. Some dragons hovered overhead, while others – mainly RainWings – found perches in the surrounding trees.
“I see your boyfriend’s finally here,” said Snail, looking through the crowd.
“What?” said Marsh, following her gaze. “Coconut? We’re not… we’re just friends. Where is he?”
“Are you two fighting?”
“No, not exactly.”
“I can tell you’re avoiding him. Come on, tell me what’s going on.”
“I know exactly what’s going on,” said Kinkajou, landing beside the two of them.
“Kinkajou?” said Marsh.
“Disappointing dragons is kind of Coconut’s specialty,” said Kinkajou. “Back in the rainforest, we were in the same tree gliding class for a whole year. Right before I was kidnapped and disappeared for three weeks. And he didn’t even notice! Can you believe that?!”
“Really?” Marsh said with an anxious expression.
“Yep. I don’t think Coconut would notice if his own wings turned into sloths. So whatever you’re worrying about, don’t.”
“I don’t know,” said Marsh. “I feel like I might have hurt his feelings or something.”
“That’s just my advice,” said Kinkajou with a shrug. “Take it or leave it.” She lifted off into the air again.
“She has a point,” said Snail.
“Hi, guys,” said Coconut from behind them.
“Agh!” said Snail. “Coconut, don’t creep up on dragons like that!”
“Sorry,” Coconut said, though he didn’t feel particularly sorry.
He was pretty sure that he would notice if his wings turned into sloths. Probably.
“Hi, Coconut,” Marsh muttered.
Coconut smiled uncertainly. He wasn’t sure if Marsh was still mad and/or worrying. He certainly looked anxious, but that might just be because of Kinkajou, who always made Coconut anxious.
“Um, I’m sorry about the other day,” said Marsh. “I guess I sort of panicked when I heard you might be leaving.”
That was why Coconut hadn’t wanted to tell Marsh in the first place. Marsh didn’t always have to deal with his problems for him. Coconut had been planning on writing such a good essay for Tsunami that Marsh would be impressed and not have to worry at all. After all, how hard could writing an essay be?
(It turned out, pretty hard. But with the help of Boto and Thrush, who, admittedly, did most of the actual clawwriting, he’d gotten it finished. And Sunny had liked it a lot.)
Since their first day at Jade Mountain, Marsh had been a great clawmate. He encouraged Coconut to get out and explore, but he wasn’t pushy. He was one of the few dragons who didn’t talk down to Coconut like some sort of colorful slug. Coconut just wanted to do one thing in return, to show Marsh how much he appreciated it all.
But how could he tell all that to Marsh? What were the words that would ease the troubled look on Marsh’s face, to convince him that everything was going to work out okay? Maybe one day, Starflight would cover those words in writing class. But for now, Coconut would have to make do.
“It’s okay, Marsh,” said Coconut, wrapping his wings around him.
“Oh,” said Marsh, meekly returning the motion. He glanced at Snail with an embarrassed look.
“So are you dating or not?” Snail said.
“No,” said Marsh.
“Yeah,” Coconut said at the same time.
“Wait, what?” said Marsh.
Coconut tilted his head. “Right? Why do you think we cuddle all the time?”
“I – I thought that was just a RainWing thing,” said Marsh.
Snail laughed. “Marsh, you’re an idiot sometimes.”
At the front of the crowd, Tsunami yelled, “EVERYONE! Silence, please!”
A hush fell over the crowd, and a hundred pairs of eyes turned to look at the podium. Sunny was standing there, a smile on her little yellow face. “Hi, everyone,” she said. “The Pyrrhian Peace Summit is almost over, so I’d like to leave you with a few words. But I’ll try to keep it brief.
“First of all, a few very brave students have stepped up and confessed that they were the cause of the mayhem the past few days. Though it was irresponsible of them, and they will be punished accordingly, there was no harm intended. I am confident that nobody here was out to harm or deceive anyone else.
Sunny scanned the crowd, eyes dwelling on the dragons of each tribe. “I’m constantly surprised and humbled by the respect you all give to me and my friends. Ever since we escaped from the cave where we were raised, dragons have expected something of us, whether they revered us or hated us, all because of the dragonet prophecy.
“But my friends and I – Clay, Tsunami, Glory, Starflight, and me – we’re not some sort of heroes. We’re just normal dragons who found themselves with some amount of power. A long time ago, we made a commitment to use that power to help the dragons Pyrrhia. And we invite you to make that commitment too.
“We’ve already seen so many examples of what intertribal cooperation can do, in medicine, communication, technology, and peace. Please, don’t hesitate to be in contact with us or with each other to continue the discussion. Jade Mountain Academy, of course, will always be happy to act as mediators if the tribes need neutral ground to meet on.”
Sunny unrolled a scroll in front of her. “I’d like to close by reading an excerpt from a wonderful essay written by one of our students, Coconut.”
Marsh gaped at Coconut. “What?!” he whispered.
“In school we learned that flowers compete with each other to have the brightest colors. It makes more bees come to them than having duller one. Sometimes RainWings do that too because they want to be popular or the prettiest. I don’t do it because I don’t like to have lots of dragons are looking at me. But I thought flowers would get more bees too if they worked together and didn’t compete with each other all the time.
“I think that is the difference between dragons and flowers. We can choose to be whatever color we want to be and we can work together if we want to. But if the flowers went to war they would probably never stop unless they had the Flowerets of Fate.”
A few dragons in the crowd laughed. Sunny looked up from the scroll and beamed. “If I’ve learned anything from the past few years, it’s that we are in control of our own destiny. We’re dragons, not flowers. Let’s make Pyrrhia a better place together.”

Wings of Fire but it's Be More Chill

Hey, what if the first arc of Wings of Fire fused with Be More Chill? I highly doubt anyone else would be interested in this concept, but I am so I'm going with it. I noticed quite a few parallels between WoF's second arc and BMC but I'm currently rereading WoF's first arc, so I'm rewriting it too - but the BMC characters are taking the place of the Dragonets of Destiny, and a few others. Contains spoilers for the first arc of WoF but enough differences that it may not necessarily have been read previously to understand this. "After the sudden death of Queen Oasis of the SandWings, her three daughters started a war over the throne. This quickly escalated into a war involving all seven of the tribes with no clear end in sight. Then, suddenly, the NightWings reportedly had a prophecy. This stated that six strange dragonets would end the war. Goldfinch, Tidepool, Cloudgazer, Delta, Sunrise, and Mirage are these six dragonets. It's a surprise that they haven't torn one another's throats out already - but hey, if the world needs saving, they might just be up for the challenge."
