Des’ Gith Dictionary
All of these words are created by me (Des) and are derived from existing phrases, words, roots or just pulled from the vibe of the language. 
Most revolve around the githyanki’s meaning of relationships, sex, and love, following my fics centreing around the relationships of Voss and Orpheus. (TW here for mentions of canon githyanki behaviour surrounding pain, raiding, sex and non-con).
NOTE: many of these words are also written with my HC of there being quite a big linguistic drift in their language, beginning when Vlaakith I took power. Many of these words are old and might not be used in modern gith now, but some are. You can read more about my HC about this here - Des' Githyanki language HCs.

**Adilshar - first among many
The meaning of this word ‘first among many’ has different connotations depending on context, and for some githyanki, depending on creche, and even city in the Astral. It can elude to a title, a formality, something a little more casual. I’ve seen githyanki use it to refer to their favourite lover or companion.
However, primarily, thousands of years ago it was used largely by those in a position of power to those below them as a title of honour and singling them out to a special, almost near equal respect. In a way, it was levelling someone to your worth. One of the highest honours of githyanki. The first among many. I see you. I respect you. 
**NOTE: Adilshar is a canon gith word, but I have expanded/adjusted its meaning. I’ve only included it here because it has had such a personal impactful meaning to me, my githyanki worldbuilding and vocabulary.

Hshazi - liar
Htaz’i vo z’varc - literally, death by blood wild
Even for githyanki, this is one of their more unsavoury words. It means, in common vulgar slang, ‘fucked to death’ or ‘fuck and kill’. This is a term githyanki use primarily for their treatment of istiks during raiding, or istik slaves that they keep and then get bored of and dispose. It’s a very derogatory term, but also very common and has lasted from the very early years of the gith, to now. And is even a word that’s heard, and known, from plane, to plane, to plane. Having heard it myself during one of their notorious raids in its exact context from their raiders, it is as haunting and terrifying to hear as you might think.
I
Ir’gi  (ihr - ghi) student of my pain 
An often intimate word used primarily between new lovers. Can also be used derogatorily or affectionately, or playfully, if two people have known each other for a long time. Nowadays, ir’gi is kept private if saying to one above your rank, and only often heard publicly from the person who holds higher rank in whatever kind of relationship they are in. Good luck to you if you wish to say ir’gi to your superior in public is all I’ll say.
Ir’mir’r’tal - the comfort/safety of my pain
A lost word that some say is used still by the githzerai. A version that was taken and adapted to their current language I have heard to me Ir'm'tal which now simply means 'my safety'. My source? My lips and quill are sealed.
Ir’zai (ihr - zoi) - the honour of my pain
A deeply intimate expression used between lovers/mates to express the meaning they hold to one another. Common translation could be ‘I love you’ but a githyanki would say that cheapens it, the expression so lost in soft istik translation. This is an expression heard still in current githyanki language.
K
Kalisk - small one; compact
Kalisk’nal - little creature; little beast
Often kalisk is used colloquially or affectionately, so used with ‘nal’ which can mean creature or beast, turns the phrase into something even endearing. Not something one would usually associate with the githyanki. One might think this could be heard in their creches to their younglings, or in my travels I did once have the pleasure firsthand to see a githyanki meet a cat for the first time and exclaim rather joyfully ‘kalisk’nal!’.

Nal - spawn/creature; strange one

Pa - no/don't/not
Q
Quith’na - literally weak creature
This word is a slang that roughly translates into, in common, as ‘pussy’. The githyanki have varying and sometimes different genitals to those who speak common so it doesn’t translate directly into what those who speak common recognise it as. And although the githyanki use terms of genitals for insults or colloquial speech, do not recognise calling someone by one of their terms as a description of weakness.
R
Rrav’kil - 
A term of endearment for someone below you in rank. What affection that is, is between the speaker, and the receiver it seemed. This is an old word, and is barely, if at all, used in current gith. It seems to have shifted into ra’stil instead which means ‘ally’ in common. Another language of affection and endearment lost to the githyanki from long ago.

Sh’k’nal - hellspawn
Sh’k - hell
T
To/T’ - Has several meanings, depending on context and which word precedes, follows. 
Mostly it means: only/one/this/to/of.
T’lak’var - literally, severance.
A very old word from when they freed themselves from the illithid, severing their control. A lot of it comes poignantly from Mother Gith and her power of severing the Elder Brain’s control which therefore, eventually, granted their freedom. It translates to freedom in common, and for githyanki then, and now, it simply invokes freedom.
Note: taken from T'lak'ma Ghir - Sister in freedom (t’lak meaning freedom, here, where ghir means sister, vhir brother, and stil friend in this context. (Although interesting how stil is in jhe’stil which means ‘superior one’).

I also HC that the githyanki have several different words that translate to freedom, as it is such an important and integral meaning to their people.
T’rac'nal - literal, insane creature/spawn/strange thing 
The common translation of this word is wild or mad beast.  
T’var - literal; only star; one star
An old word that uses var when referring to someone, instead of vah’k. Found in some ancient, forbidden texts that translates, it seems in common, to ‘my one’ or ‘only you’. What we can gather from the context of its use, a declaration of affection, a promise, a title, a threat even, depending on who spoke it, who heard it. Some may say it means I love you. Some may say it’s the githyanki word of marriage. Some say it’s the promise of death. Some may say it’s a feeling, a promise, a bond that anyone other than githyanki will never understand.
Tuj’da - a loud, happy laugh 
Tuj - loud, boisterous, joyful. 
Sometimes this word means free, wild. In the meaning of ‘wild animal’; ‘no boundaries’. 
V
Va (voh) - go/yes/acknowledgement
Vah’k (vahk) - body/person/referring to oneself; 
This word comes from a very ancient gith language where the word var means ‘star’ from their first settling on the Astral Plane, and being new beings on the Sea. Vah’k can also mean ‘star’ in today’s gith, depending on context. You will find both vah’k and var in ancient texts, to now. It seems vah’k was brought into use around the time of the settlement of Tu’narath, but how widespread its use then, and also if they used var prior to vah’k is unknown.
Vah’k gi (vah - ghi) - lover; literally, student of my body/self
There isn’t really a direct word for ‘lover’ in githyanki society as we’d know in common, but this is as close to our understanding of it. Student of my body. It’s used in many ways, for one night trysts, casual partners, to longer term partners within the githyanki. Although some prefer not to use it if they decide to share their bond longer term. 
For those that develop a more long term and serious bond, the word ir’zai, which means ‘honour of my pain’ is often used more.
Note: ir’zai is derived from sha va zai which I HC is a very old and early gith language, mostly now lost or changed over time, that simply means ‘I love you’.
Vak (vohk) - cut; harm
Note: The closeness in the words of vah’k and vak in their language is notable, as for githyanki so often their expressions of self, identity and love are built upon pain.
Vak’nir (vohk - nir)- literally, cut by silver. 
Githyanki are an intense people, and their expressions are no different. ‘Cut by silver’ when translated to common, we would understand it to be ‘you’re beautiful’. But it is most likely closer to ‘you’re exquisite’, or even, to our god fearing races, ‘you are cut by the divine’.
Vak zharni (vohk - zohr - knee) - changed by time 
literally, harmed by memories
A descriptive, and surprisingly, an affectionate word used by the githyanki to describe the change of time, or an event, has had on someone. Be that physical, or emotional.
Sometimes it’s used casually or teasing, when a githyanki returns from the material after a long period back to the Astral, and has therefore aged, and changed, compared to those back on the Astral who have not.
Author note: I made this one especially thinking about Orpheus and Voss and Orpheus seeing Voss for the first time and how this could be a phrase the githyanki have used/maybe still use to describe how much someone’s physically and also emotionally changed after they haven’t seen them for a long time, or from a past event.
Var’cha - literal, star bearer; 
Another very ancient gith word used to describe the skies of the Astral Sea - ‘skies that bear stars’. Sometimes it’s still used to simply describe something that is aesthetically appealing, sentiment in your beauty (invoking a certain emotion and attachment from beauty, however there’s a different word for that, that was used more), or that something simply looks like the Astral Skies.  
Vhayeri - the future/a point in time that hasn't yet happened 
Can be used in a poignant and significant way. As in “we will meet vhayeri”.
Vo - of/by/my (context heavy, and a more modern and colloquial version of to/t’)
Vo mir’tal - (vo - meer - tohl) - literally, my safety
A lost word in most of githyanki society, however there are some communities that have kept it alive, the meaning often reverting to its literal nowadays. Whereas its original meaning seemed to hold the weight of ‘my lover’ or simply ‘mine’. It was said Gith had favoured this term for her lovers, one especially, whoever that had been.
Z
z’var - blood
Z’var’zai - (z - vohr - zoy) - literally, blood honour
This can be used in different meanings such as the literal, to give a blood honour, to pay a price in blood for Vlaakith, your jhe’stil. Or to describe a wound or injury because of an honourable thing a githyanki did for someone (however this seems rare, and used more in the older days of the gith). 
Often it’s translated and used as ‘worth of blood’ or ‘blood beauty’ to describe someone’s war or battle wounds as something another githyanki appreciates in that person, admires, or desires them because of it.
Z’vart’rac (z - vohr - t - rak) - literally, blood insane
This term is more for battle bloodlust, but sometimes spills over to other feelings between gith, gith and istik or other scenarios. 
Z’varc (z - vohrk) - a derivation of the above ‘z’vart’rac’, blood insane.
Blood insane to blood lust, but carnal. If you ask a githyanki what it means in common, they’ll probably say something itense like ‘blood wild’ or ‘bleed me dry, fuck me wet’. Mates and lovers started shortening the original version to this one, and it’s lived on to now heavily through their raiding culture. This is one of the words of the githyanki that is more understood in the feeling, tone, that simple meaning. Trust me on this.

Draco Malfoy and the Parent Trap (headcanons)
Request: hc for scorpius trying to get his father back together with his dada teacher a while after his mother passing because he wanted his father to be happy and he found out reader used to be his school sweetheart before things got in their way? - anon
A/N: This is a fairly long headcanon and for that, I apologise! I had so much fun with this though! I’ve split this into sections like how I would a full length fic otherwise it’s too hard to follow, in my opinion.
Warnings: female reader, mischief and mishaps, kissing, fluff, humour, mentions of death, past relationships.

Scorpius Malfoy loved his mother; he adored his mother, but even he could no longer deny that she was not coming back. 
Astoria Malfoy had died, and she was not coming back. 
It had been years since her passing and whilst Scorpius missed her every single day, he could not ignore the fact that his father needed to meet someone new.

Draco Malfoy adored his wife; he would give up his soul to have her back in his arms where he could love her as wholly as he had when she was alive. If he had possession of the resurrection stone, he knew who he would bring back, he didn't care whether it would change her - he would have her back. 
However, Draco Malfoy was lonely. He missed his wife, but he also missed the companionship of a relationship. He missed going to bed and having someone there when he woke up wishing him a good morning. 
He yearned to have someone to hold; someone to love; someone to care for. 
Draco Malfoy simply wanted someone.

Scorpius didn't really have a favourite class; he enjoyed them all as he loved learning, but he found himself drawn to Defence Against the Dark Arts when you took over as Professor, breathing new life into the subject.
“Scorpius!” You call, smiling widely as the blonde ambles over to you. “Well done! I haven't seen spell casting like that since I last saw your father.”
“You knew my father?” Scorpius asks you, shocked at the admission.
“We were very close for a time,” You admit, feeling your face flush as the teenager looks on confused, “But we drifted apart.”
“What was he like back then?” Scorpius asks before he can help himself, “Dad doesn't speak a lot about his time at Hogwarts; he says his life began when he met my mother.”
You laugh, pressing a hand to your chest. “I understand why he would say that; he always was the romantic. I was sorry to hear of her passing; I remember when she attended Hogwarts.”
“Thank you,” Scorpius whispers quietly; a new wave grief washing over him as he meets another person who0 had known his mother. 
“You’re the spitting image of your father. How is he?” You ask, needing to know.
“He’s okay. He’s lonely,” Scorpius admits, “He misses my mother.”
“As he should,” You state, nodding solemnly. “He always was serious. Even in school; I could very rarely get him to take a night off and have some fun.”
Scorpius smiles at the image conjured in his mind; the teenaged version of his father causing mayhem around the castle - it just didn't seem true. Scorpius sighs when he glances at the clock. “I’ll see you next time, Professor.”
“Bye, young Malfoy,” You laugh, thinking back to a time when a blonde haired teenager had been the centre of your universe.

Scorpius brings up the subject at lunch, asking Albus and Rose whether they knew anything of it.
Albus shrugs, sipping at his water before shaking his head. Rose frowns, tapping her chin with her finger. “I remember hearing my parents talk about it,” She murmurs, seeming far off as if in a distant memory.
“What did they say?” Scorpius all but demands, perching on the edge of his seat.
Rose’s eyes brighten as the conversation comes back to her. “I remember!” She all but cries, “They were discussing Professor (Y/L/N)’s appointment as our professor - they knew her at Hogwarts, you see.”
“Anything else?” Scorpius presses, already aware of such knowledge.
“My dad spoke about how he could never believe that someone like Professor (Y/L/N) would date your dad.”
“WHAT?” Scorpius shouts; not out of the slight insult to his father, but the fact that his Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher used to date his father and neither said a word about it. “They dated?!”
Rose shrugs, reaching for her drink. “They must have if my parents were talking about it. I don't know how long for, but both my parents said it was the nicest they had seen your father act.”
Scorpius frowns at Rose’s words but does not comment; instead, he wonders about his father, overworking himself at St Mungo’s so he doesn't have to come home to an empty house. 
“Scorp,” Albus sings, interrupting Scorpius’ worrying, “I have an idea.”
“What is that?” Scorpius asks warily; these ideas never ended well. 
“You were talking about wanting your father to find love again... and here you are being educated by on elf his exes.”
“Okay?”
“Set them up you fool!”
“Oh!” Scorpius gasps, seeing the plan fall into place right before his eyes.
“Alright,” He concedes, “But I’ll need your help.”

The plan gets put into motion the following week.
Scorpius approaches you at the end of Thursday’s lesson, a sheepish look on his face.
“You know your father had the same expression when he messed up,” You snort, “What did you do?”
“It’s not so much what I did, but what my father would like to hear.”
“Pardon?”
“My father wrote to me yesterday asking if he could have an early report of my progress in school. Since you already know him, I thought - if you don't mind, that is - you would write to him first, update him on DADA?”
You roll your eyes. “Of course, Scorpius. I’ll write a report his evening and send it with the owls tomorrow morning.”
“Thank you!” Scorpius exclaims; eyes wide with happiness as the first stage of the plan falls into place.

Stage One: set up communication.
Draco had never sent his son a letter asking for his progress so far; Draco never rushed for academic excellence, he was simply happy with Scorpius’ best. 
However, the report would hopefully open up a line of communication between the exes which would in turn lead to something more.

Owl Post arrives only once a day so it isn't until Saturday that Scorpius hears back from his father. 
He opens his letter with barely restrained glee; Albus and Rose watching on curiously. 
Inside the weighty envelope, Scorpius finds your progress report of his work in DADA but also an attached note from his father:
“Scorpius, you do not need to feel pressured to send me reports. I know you’ll try your best in every subject. You will do well with (Y/N) teaching you. She was a genius at this subject when I was at school.”
Scorpius freezes for a moment; running a finger over his father’s handwriting as he is hit with a keen sense of absence. He didn't get homesick often, but right now, he misses his father more than words could say. 
Albus reads over the letter, Rose follows. The three sit in silence as they think of their next move. Rose comes up with the idea.
“Your dad needs to reply to Professor (Y/L/N). It would look rude if he did not.”
Scorpius nods; reaching into his bag for a piece of parchment and his quill. He scrawls a quick reply to his father:
“Dad, I just thought you would appreciate the update. I hope you replied to Professor (Y/L/N), it would be rude to not have given that she took the time to write to you.”
His reply is sent in the afternoon when he treks up the Owlery, feeds a postal owl before offering up his letter to be returned to Draco. Scorpius had even tucked Professor (Y/L/N)’s original letter in the envelope so his father did not forget what she had written.
As Scorpius watches the owl fly away, he wonders whether this plan will ever work.

Time passes and Scorpius begins to wonder whether the plan is working.
He watches you in lessons; notices that you seem a little brighter, that there is a little glow about you when you smile.
And Scorpius cannot help but wonder whether his father did reply and that the both of you were keeping in touch.
The hope that unfurls in his chest at the thought if his father happy again is what makes him pray to Merlin for it all to work out.

It’s a Friday afternoon, weeks into the plan, when you approach Scorpius.
“Scorpius, may I talk to you for a moment?”
“Yes, Professor.”
“I’m not sure if your father had made you aware or whether he was keeping it a surprise, but he’s coming to the school tomorrow.”
Scorpius’ face goes slack at your words. 
Draco had never come to the school; had not wanted to come after the second wizarding war and for good reason too. For Draco to be stepping foot back into the place he so strongly thinks hates him, there must be a powerful reason.
“Why?” is all Scorpius asks.
You fiddle with your fingers before replying. “He sent me a letter letting me know he would be coming to see you, but to also catch up with me. You don’t mind, do you? I know this could be strange for you. I’ll happily cancel if you want to spend the whole day with your father.”
The hope that had been hiding away just behind his heart begins to bloom in his chest as he takes in the hopeful expression on your face. It's then that Scorpius realises that you don't want to cancel on his father, but you would for him. It’s then that Scorpius realises that his father might just be ready for moving on.
“I don't mind at all,” He answers, finding his words truthful. “You and my father have a lot to catch up on.”
“That we do,” You laugh before smiling genuinely at the teenager, “Thank you, Scorpius.”
Scorpius smiles; grabbing his belongings and making his way out of the classroom. Stage two of the plan had begun with Scorpius even realising.
He knows exactly what he needs to do tomorrow.

Scorpius barely sleeps all night for thinking of it.
He’s up with the sun and the first to breakfast as he waits for his father's arrival.
He remains sitting in the Great Hall when he begins to wonder just exactly where his father is. It was long past the time of his arrival.
It’s then that Scorpius decides to wander to the DADA classroom.
He finds Draco there in quiet conversation with you; sitting close together on the desks, hands so close touching that it almost pains Scorpius to look. 
He realises then how well you fit together; how you both balance each other out when you snort at something Draco says, reaching out to show his shoulder playfully. Scorpius cannot remember a time when he saw his father have fun; have a joke with someone.
Heads bent close together, Scorpius catches the glimpse of an indulgent smile on his father’s face and it's then that Scorpius knows that his father has found another person to love. 
Scorpius thought it would hurt, to see his father with another, but it doesn't. Instead, Scorpius feels relief that his father might not be so alone forever. 
An idea pops into Scorpius’ mind. 
Gathering his courage, Scorpius reaches for the door handle, and slams the door shut loudly. 
He covers his mouth to quash the laughter that bubbles at the sound of your surprised yelp. 
He quickly casts a locking charm on the door, remembering an advanced one taught to him by Rose whose mother had taught it to her. 
“Let us out!” You yell, shaking the door handle and banging on the door.
“Not yet!” He shouts back with a smile.
“Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy!” Draco shouts, “Let us out right now!”
“Not until you get your act together!”
“What?”
“You can't come out until you admit your feelings!”
And with that, the voices on the other side of the door fall silent and Scorpius sits himself across the corridor from the entrance to the classroom.

Draco shakes his head at the audacity of his son. 
You press a hand to your mouth to stop the laughter from leaving. 
“It’s not funny!” Draco laments.
“It kinda is,” You admit, “Your son could see something neither of us could.”
“What?”
“Draco, you would have to be half blind to not see my feelings for you.”
“What?” The blonde repeats, once again struck dumb. 
You shrug, “We’ve been talking for a while and I thought there was something there. At least, there is something there on my end.”
“It’s been so long,” He whispers, closing his eyes against the wave of emotions washing over him.
Draco feels nothing but conflict; he can no longer ignore the rising affection he has for you, but with every sting of it, he’s reminded of Astoria. 
“I’m not asking to replace her,” You whisper, drawing your hands up to your chest as if protecting the already breaking heart. “I know I could never do that.”
Opening his eyes, Draco sees the stricken expression on your face and hates that he’s the cause for it. “I miss having someone there,” He admits quietly, “I miss having someone.”
“I could be that someone,” You state.
“I want you to be that someone,” Draco admits, pulling your hands from your chest, holding them gently in his own. “I want you.”
A watery smile breaks across your face as Draco drops on elf your hands to caress your cheek. “A new chapter,” You whisper, leaning into his touch.
“A new chapter,” Draco promises, ducking his head to kiss you.

Scorpius Malfoy misses his mother every day. He knows that she will always be with him, but he misses her nonetheless.
However, he cannot ignore how happy he is for his father to have found someone to love again.

He's been sneaking into these asks by proxy, so it's finally time for his dedicated session, hehe~
First impression
WUAAAGH what's up with this WEIRD LONG NOT-THOMAS and his FACE?!

His face is still pretty weird! But you know what else it is? Part of an Absolute Legend ✨
Like, man, Gordon is such a big presence and interesting character, the entire premise leans heavily on him. I'm inclined to go as far as to say that the Blue Boys of 1, 2 and 4 here are the three most important characters for the franchise (not at all to knock everyone else lmao) and they slot nicely into a Triforce of Courage, Wisdom and Power, and Gordon has Power in spades!
Gordon is The Vain One (not James!). He's legit very strong and the fastest on Sodor (which isn't just being a big fish in a small pond because that island has some crazy cool engines!) but unfortunately he lacks humility. His success seems to have been lodged in his head before the series even begins and this Pride is the source of pretty much every single conflict he's involved in.
But when it isn't his self satisfaction in his actions, it's being smug about being such a grand, magnificent Tender Engine and he is snooty as hell about it. He seems to look at smaller engines [pretty much everyone compared to him lol] as a lesser class, particularly if they're small and cheeky and Tank Engines. This may not be the case exactly, but his way of talking to them and some other things he says are very condescending.
However... as much as a gigantic jerk he is at several points, with Gordon I kinda feel like he plain ass doesn't conceive of his words being out of line. That and having to Unlearn things... he's not innately better than everyone else. He sees things in black and white. There are Useful Engines, and those who should be scrapped. There are Noble Tender Engines and Lesser Tank Engines who exist to do the tedious chores on behalf of the Superior ones. Edward doing shunting is seen as Demeaning and contradicts Gordon’s world view that Tender Engines Don't Stunt™, and he doesn't like that one bit! (Also Edward was crossing the picket line but that wasn't Awdry's concern lmao)
Related is Gordon does seem oddly dense at times, like assuming that Tenders are in of themselves a Status Symbol rather than a large lunchbox of sorts lol, or that Tender Engines like him being too heavy for Branch Lines being because something about Branch Lines are degrading. This might be all Elitist Brainwashing influence. But still, that he just takes these as The Truth means I get to affectionately call him an idiot. And there is no other way to explain how he genuinely believes Bill and Ben were going to murder him if he wasn't missing a few brain bolts in there.
Fortunately, he does eventually start to learn the important lessons.... very gradually, but the Early Gordon is a pretty different beast to Later Gordon, and it's wonderful~
Also, I gotta give credit to him for having some moments of utter brilliance and actual grasp of reality and more complex matters, like culture. (Yeah, I'm rolling with his geniune Opera Knowledge from s6 of all things. It's good!) As much as Awdry himself may have disagreed, Gordon was in the right to want a Station Pilot and the Strike was called for (not bullying Edward for it, but myeah) ...but this leads to my next point: He seems to have a mental block when it comes to Emotions.
Certainly, he's as emotional as the others are, it's not just a scale of Snooty, Arrogant, Condescending, Prideful ....well, it is, but ALSO the more mixed and varied feelings: Shame, Sadness, Fear, Ambivilance, Irritation, Anger, Passion, Amused, Delight and so on. However, Gordon is seemingly unaware of how his words may make the others feel, and even at his cruellest it doesn't look like he's aware he's twisting a knife in. To Gordon, he's being honest, but his verbose manner ends up twisting and wriggling away from any valid point like an overgrown vine that somehow links back to how [Other Engine] is disgracing him, Gordon, by association.
Examples include: Being offended by Henry's new shape (??? Gordon dude he nearly died and this is an improvement, a good thing!), saying that Edward's age and difficulty starting a heavy ass packed load of passengers is grounds to be Retired or even Scrapped, other little insulting things like calling the likes of Thomas and James Little insistently (it seems to vary if he's trying to put them down or actually be affectionate), and many more when in the hands of inept writers who have to wheel out the same Gordon Learns A Lesson Plot every other season.
Like I said in the James post, I also think he kinda poisoned the Red guy with his snooty attitude... but I maintain that I think Gordon was unaware of this. He may know he has Influence, and enjoy that, but he really truly doesn't appear to mean to mould James into a smaller, redder version of himself. He's oblivious and from his own point of view, benevolent. Which is in fact a dangerous combo indeed!

Again though, if you're looking at the books and s1-s5 of TVS you can see him grow and change. He does take a while to learn the lessons, but as time goes on he moves 2 steps forward and 1 step back, then eventually less steps back entirely. It's great! And so is Gordon. A big dumb meathead with not entirely uncalled for delusions of granduer. A dramatic so-and-so who is the best engine for his job.

Look, I’m not 100% objective, here! But Ringo’s read of this line is fantastic (and keeps making me expect him to finish saying OOOHH SHIT) and it’s also a well deserved bolt of divine retribution for how rude he was being earlier. (As long as my essay already was, he very much needed the knocking down of some pegs here!)
Idea for a story
While both my fics with him thus far have been variations of Pre-Canon, Full-Arrogance and Snobbish Gordon (and both were a lot of fun!) ...but I cannot bear the same expired horse being beaten more when the story is set waaay later but he’s still up his own ass. Please, PLEASE writers, let him hold what growth he’s managed to gain!
I think it’d be good to accept that he’s gonna be outdated sooner or later, so have him help train another High Speed Engine and take them under his wing. The Christopher Awdry books kinda have something similar with Pip and Emma, but I think a better way of having Gordon be involved would be if he was actively doing some mentoring himself, as well as being a neat parallel with Edward, whose type was once Express only but got outclassed by A1s, and so the same can happen to this big A1 -> A3 lad and he can form a healthy relationship with some bright eyed newbie (and maybe have some self awareness and try to stop their head getting too large, lol).
Unpopular opinion
I know I just said him mentoring would be a cool story idea, but in canon? He is NOT a resident Dad type!! He’s a hotshot young man but he’s also a hot mess. He’s physically large but he’s not got the Energy of someone who dispenses sage advice and a shoulder to cry on. At best, he’s a weird uncle! One who means well but you shouldn’t take his life advice to heart because he’s actually just as, if not more clueless than you!
Favourite relationship
I feel inclined to say Thomas here. Emphatically not because Gordon is ‘old’ and Thomas is ‘young’, but because they’re so damn alike and actually make an excellent, albeit unconventional type of Rivalry.
Both are self important with genuine finesse in their respective talents, both are honest to a fault, both have redeeming qualities to offset their initial abrasiveness, and the first TVS episode is centred on the both of them and sets the tone for the series as a whole. There’s more parallels, of course, but I also wanna point out they’re effectively the mascots of North Western Rail in universe too, and I absolutely love this picture:

I also have immense fondness for the Down the Mine paradigm shift! Thomas gives Gordon grief over the ditch incident and later when it emerges the Fat Controller is gonna send for Gordon to pull him out, Thomas is filled with dread. But Gordon isn’t using the chance to lord over Thomas, he’s actually so amused by Thomas’ mishap and it coming at a time where he’s been significantly humbled, they instead become Comrades and I love it. I eat it up! Paint Pots and Queens isn’t anywhere near as good but I adore the little bit where they’re appealing for the other, equals and watching each other’s back~
But yeah, as Friendly Rivals they both feel very authentic and yet, in a daft way, sweet ;3
Favourite headcanon
He still says “Hurry, hurry, hurry!” when pulling the Express. That’s a HC as I think the show phased it out, but I like it lol. I feel like my essay on him contains most of the headcanon stuff, but it’s all based on what’s shown, baybee!

* They came back home to the penthouse one day, and the moment they opened the door, a white fluff came dashing out the door at the speed of light
* MC couldn’t believe Elizabeth just ran out-she’d seen the door open a million times before but she’d never felt the need to even move from wherever she’d been laying at, neverless dash out the way she did
* They immediatly called Jumin, who was still at work, as they also dashed out the house and down the stairs, hoping to catch Elizabeth before she had a chance to leave the building; how fast could a cat even run?!
((the answer is Very. V e r y fast my gosh they’re little sonic the hedghehog hybrids when they want to be))
* Jumin of course didn’t blame MC; he was however insanely worried over Elizabeth, and left his office the moment he got the call, alerting all his security personel to drop what they were doing and scour the streets for Elly
* Lo and behold, Elizabeth was no where to be found; for hours MC and Jumin searched, looked through the whole city with no Elizabeth the 3d in sight.
* When they let the RFA know what was going on, they received an answer as to why Elizabeth had left the way she did; Yoosung told them it was currently mating season, and if unneutered cats caught a whiff of another cat they’d chase them to the end of the earths to uhm. bOink
* Jumin you multimillionaire cat-obsessed nerd, why haven’t you neutered Elizabeth?! Didn’t you know cats over 6 months old should be neutered for the sake of their health??
* Apparently, Jumin hated the thought of having to have Elly undergo such a ‘life changing procedure’-ergo, this was the result.
* They both spent the night on the couch wide-awake, wondering what they could do, how they could find her...
* ...Only they didn’t have to.
* A few minutes after midnight, a call came to Jumin’s phone from his chief of security-apparently Elizabeth the 3d was patiently waiting at the main gates of the building, waiting to be let in and back to the comfort of her beloved penthouse.
* They both wondered how come she came back so fast on her own, but the relief overwhelmed the curiosity, and they were contnet to just snuggle Elly, showering her with love (and an actual shower my god Elizabeth did you roll in mud?! Her fur turned from pearly white to an ashen gray with dust and mud!!)
* Neither of them realised anything was wrong for quite some time-not until Elizabeth’s belly started to get bigger and bigger a few months after that incident.
* Jumin insisted it must’ve been because of her food; he refused to believe it could be because his precious pure Elizabeth the 3d could’ve possibly boinked another cat, especially one Jumin hadn’t met and approved of, nope, no way she did-
* -only that’s exactly what it was ((sorry Juju)), or so the vet confirmed. 
* MC was ecstatic about the news-Elizabeth would have babies! Tiny little kittens! Even the RFA group chat exploded in congratulations, even Zen begrudgingly admitted that a litter of tiny little kittens could be a cute sight from far, far away 
* Jumin...had a harder time coming to terms with it. He looked to Elizabeth with a frown, like a disapproving father who refused to accept that his little girl wasn’t quite so little anymore.
* Yet the moment MC told him to imagine a tiny little version of Elizabeth, a kitty with big baby blues and silky white fur, well, he couldn’t say he hated the imagery of that.
* He was even more posessive over Elizabeth the 3d all the way through her pregnancy; he was so obsessed with making sure she received the best care she could, that he basically had a team of the worlds best vets on call 24/7.
* And when her due date came along, he refused to even go to work until he saw that both Elly and the kittens were all safe and sound.
* It took a few hours, hours during which Jumin paced back and forth, nearly making a hole in the ground from his anxious tapping as he waited outside the vet’s surgery room (he refused to let her give birth at home; what if something went wrong?! He needed her to receive the best care possible, to diminish any and all risks to her health). 
* And then, there they were; Elizabeth the 3d, tired and sleepy, but with 4 little hairless kittens hiding their little heads onto their mothers’ fur.
* MC doubted they’d ever seen Jumin this happy. He petted Elizabeth, took the little kittens into his arms as he looked at them with an almost religious awe; this little things came from his Elizabeth the 3d? She’d brought these beautiful creatures into the world?
* “Of course”, he concluded, “Only a creature as beautiful as her could give life to equally majestic beings.”
* MC...couldn’t say anything to that. The kittens really were darn cute, and they loved to watch them grow day by day, seeing their fur grow, their eyes open, them taking their first steps-even they had to agree it was the most beautiful thing they’d ever seen.
* Jumin was surpried to see that there was in fact, no little kitty identical to his Elizabeth. One was a mix of black and white, the entirety of its tail a silky black along with its ears, whilst two of them were white with black spots, and the last one, the smaller of the bunch, was entirely black except for a tiny white spot at its neck.
* Even so, Jumin loved each and every one of them equally. He wouldn’t even entretain the thought of giving any of those kittens away, not even to V (and definitely not to Seven who begged and pleaded with him day after day). 
* He did allow the rest of the RFA to drop by and meet the little fluffs; he even allowed each of the rest of the members to name each kitty, much to MC’s dismay;
* And that’s how the kitties ended up with the names Spot (by Zen, who genially couldn’t think of a better name), Zen Jr (by Jaehee-even though Jumin vehemently refused to call it so), Robocop the Fourth (by no one else than Seven, of course), Jinx (by Yoosung-she’s his favorite LOLOL character!), and lastly, the little black kitty V instantly bonded with, which he named Luna-a kitty as dark and majestic as the contrast of the night’s bright moon. 
* Jumin eventually agreed to give Luna to V-he saw how much the two instantly bonded, and both he and MC agreed having a little soul to take care of would do V good after all the things he’d been through.
* And they were right-he loved Luna and gave her the best care possible, making her the centre of a lot of his paintings and photographs, which Seven immediatly shared online for millions of people to coo over.
* They weren’t just Elizabeth the 3d’s babies; they were now part of the big, big RFA family.

For your drabbles: Julian, Kira and Garak were accidently locked in a closet. Lets see what happens
(I do not know to what extent you've asked this because you've maybe noticed I've written things in which Kira acts as match-maker between Julian and Garak, but I love you, thank you)
This is set in my general hc that Kira becomes a poly goddess post-show - just partners left, right, and centre, on earth, on Bajor, in space, on earth, probably dozens of other planets. Mad game.
—— Let's See What Happens ——
Who's fault it was, was anybody's guess – and Kira was guessing that it was Garak. Or maybe Bashir. It was hard to tell with the bickering going on and the blame being thrown forwards and backwards between the two of them, while she was stuck in the middle like the ball in one of Bashir's games of tennis and couldn't get to the damned door!
Oh, great, and now Garak was hyperventilating and Bashir had gently started touching his arms and doing that thing he did where he was ridiculously professional and capable. It was incredible how this was the same person who could ramble on for hours about microbiology without reading the room or suffered – even now – from foot-in-mouth disease (it was only on this trip to Cardassia that she'd somehow become privy to information that he liked feet, so never had those words been more apt).  
Good, it was working. Garak was calmer and responding to Bashir's tender ministrations. She tried to get around them to break down the door – Bashir shook his head at her, in case Garak began to get faint again, before he returned to crooning the soothing words that somehow magically worked like a dream on the other man, thank the Prophets. But she was still weirdly squashed in between them. Her price to pay for praying to the Prophets to make this happen, she supposed. They were testing her.
She'd just invited Bashir because she was interested to see what would happen. But then, she'd thought, what if she left them and they didn't figure anything out while she was with a couple of wonderful politicians and activists she'd been getting... very close with.
Bashir and Garak hadn't managed it in all the time they were on Deep Space Nine, the odds of them making it work now they were on Cardassia seemed just as slim. Sigh. She'd have to duck out if it became obvious they needed space.
Nobody was getting any space now, but since they were in here, she could appreciate how well it worked in her favour, despite the claustrophobia. Bashir was being sweet and gentle and Garak was softened by his ordeal and she... she was trying very hard not to listen to their conversation and edge around to try and break down the door.
She could've been sitting in a comfortable couch, sipping a non-specific badly replicated alcoholic beverage, surrounded by attractive, passionate gender-various Cardassians right about now. Instead she was watching two emotionally insecure people fawn over one another on the floor of a closet.
She tried to squish around them, willing herself to go deaf – (oh my dear, I thought you'd never ask, said Garak from the floor and she turned up a very obnoxious Bajoran hymn in her head). The door, at last. Give them a few more moments before she got out of here? No, if they messed it up now, it was their own fault!
She took a small step back, immediately finding herself uncomfortably touching the two again as they sat in their little ball of mush. They were definitely at the point where she ought to be gracefully leaving them. In the absence of grace though, a solid kick to the door would do the trick!
“It's been a pleasure boys,” she said as she dusted herself off. “Now, I have a date. And so do you.”
As she turned to go, she heard Garak murmur to Bashir: “You know, without Nerys I don't think any of us would've survived a week on Deep Space Nine.”

Heathers: The Television Pilot
So I watched the pilot for the Heathers show yesterday. It's not faithful to the original film at all. like it goes in a completely different direction - more SJW than maintaining the "status quo" like in the film, that said, I didn't hate it.
I won't be watching the rest of the series because it's not my thing. It's Heathers in concept only, not plot. It does make some references to the original (quoting famous lines, big fun is a chip brand, the new happiness posters, the original score), but it very much is a departure from the film. And it is for that reason that I can't place it on the same level as the film or even the musical. 
Though it's not outright terrible, it's not a cult classic from and set in the late 80s. This show may be "just" but it is so not "very".

Naturally, I have a lot of opinions on Heathers, the television show. I say naturally because the film is my favourite movie of all-time. And, although I recorded a video commentary/analysis/comparison of the show in relation to the film and musical, I have no idea when I’ll get around to editing that or exactly how clear and concise my opinions will be.  So, going back to the medium at which I’m best, let me take the time to go into more detail about the show so far, my opinions on it in relation to the source material and the musical and how it would be as a stand-alone show. Future Katey coming to tell you that I did edit the video and here’s the link to watch it. 
Spoiler alert below the cut as I will be going into detail of the events of the entire pilot (as well as the film and music as a whole but if you haven’t seen those where have you been?). 
If you’d like a plot summary but don’t actually want to watch the episode.
TL;DR: below the cut, my analysis may be quite long so be prepared to read a lot.
Let’s just clarify some things right off the bat, the show is set in 2017/2018, not in 1988 as was the film (or in ‘89 like the musical). The slang has been updated to fit the time, for example, ‘very’ becomes ‘just’. References are made to the original film: big fun is now a brand of chips, there are “the New Happiness” posters hung on the walls of the school, some dialogue from the film is recycled or repurposed for the show, and (my favourite nod to the film) some of the original film score has been used (or slightly updated) for the show. [This last thing is a very minute detail, but I am such a sucker for the film’s score, so I appreciated that little touch.]
The opening is a bit graphic, to say the least.
Eight years prior to the main events of the episode, we are introduced to an adult woman in a red scrunchie. She has just doused her house in gasoline and lit the match when her husband and son come home. The father quickly runs into the house while the son stays in the car as the mother waves at him from her bedroom window then shoots herself from (under her chin/jaw) as her son is left watching the entire thing. It’s safe to assume the boy in the car is JD because, by the episode’s end, that assumption proves to be true.
So how similar is it to the film, really?
Not very. Not very at all. OK despite my ass clinging to the use of the word very for dear life now, the show honestly has very little to do with the source material. One could speculate that Shannen Doherty’s character (JD’s mother who commits suicide in the show’s cold open) might be someone from the original film and that’s how they could be linked. Otherwise, there’s not much similarity to the original beyond the basic concept and shared character names. And the references. There are loads of references to the source material - not so much to the musical - but you’d be hardpressed to forget this is a reboot with all the allusions to the original.
Why are the diverse characters the villains?
I have no fucking clue. In the narrative, it’s because people who are different are now popular. 
Heather Chandler (HC) is fat (or as the show calls it “body positive” as if to say fat is a bad word and only overweight people can be body positive) and she appears to be into a more blackmail centred version of social justice. And she’ll continue to blackmail people even after her “death” it seems - if the sneak peek at the end of the episode’s any indication. 
Heather Duke (HD) is our genderqueer character, and we see she/her pronouns being used (I can’t recall if other pronouns were also used for Duke). She basically copies HC in that blackmail approach to social justice and she’s secretly very envious of HC
Heather McNamara (HM) is our biracial Heather, she is also supposedly a lesbian, but we see her making out with one of her male teachers in the parking lot of Snappy’s Snack Shack. HD catches her in this act and claims that HM is not actually LGBTQ+ (sexuality is fluid though so maybe HM is another type of WLW. Though, by the way, this show is going HD seems correct in her assumption that HM is straight).
Outside of this narrative though it doesn’t make any sense. We could have gotten a POC Veronica and/or JD (who they seem to be making more of an antihero than outright psychopath), or they could have gender-bent JD and made Veronica WLW to provide diversity in a way that doesn’t villainise the diverse.
Trying to Flip the Script
As I said above, they seem to want to make JD more of an antihero than the psychopathic killer he was in the film. And I noticed this was something they tried to do in the musical too. They may not have gone as far as making him an anti-hero in the musical, but they were definitely trying to make him a more sympathetic character.
In the film, there’s this element of mystery to him. What was his past? When did he start killing? Was HC his first or was framing murders as suicides always his M.O.? The film alludes to his mother’s presumed suicide as the catalyst for his strange fascination with death but it never comes out an says it. Maybe I like that because it’s also left a little ambiguous to how JD’s mother died. We all know he said it was a suicide - “she walked into a building right before my dad blew it up.” - but was that the whole truth? Did she really decide to die in such a way? Was she lured into the building under false pretences (every time I watch the film, I’m very suspicious of JD’s dad, and I get the feeling that he may have murdered his wife)?
I suspect that if this show continues, and based on reviews, it’s not looking good, we’ll see more of that: how his mother died and why he is the way he is.
I also wonder how much of the other characters they plan to change. In the show, Veronica’s only label seems to be that she thinks of herself to be a “good person”. In the film, she was bored with where she was in the school’s social hierarchy. JD provided her with adventure that she wasn’t finding at school or with her friends. JD disrupted that status quo, and that’s what was so intriguing to her. In this show, though, the status quo has already been disrupted. The outsiders are insiders now.So what could JD possibly offer than changes her whole perspective?
Betty or Martha
Just as in the musical, it seems as though these two characters get combined. Unless they intend to introduce or make mention of Martha “dumptruck” Dunnstock later, it seems as though she’s been combined with Betty Finn.
As for Betty, she’s not the innocent one you loved from the film. This one seems to be quite envious of Veronica. She’s got a chip on her shoulder, and after HC’s not-really-death she delivers a eulogy on campus which seems to be setting her up as the next Heather - the new sheriff in town, as it were. Though HD and HM are fighting to claim the void that HC left as the school’s ruler, it seems by the next day, Betty would take it upon herself to claim this role. And I really don’t know how I feel about that.
In the film, Betty was Veronica’s past and a place she to which she longed to return. Betty was her life before the Heathers. And she longed for that simpler time. She was a pleasant reminder of what Veronica used to have and what she was trying to get back. Similarly, Martha was Veronica’s future. After dethroning HD, Veronica befriends Martha, and they plan to spend prom together watching movies and eating popcorn. The chaos is out of her life, and Martha offers her a chance of normality.
Having said that, my next question is, what will be Veronica’s relationship with HM? In the film, HM was the quietest of the Heathers and only really partook in events because the rest of the group was. After HD mocked her for her troubles [Poor Little Heather], she attempted suicide - which was quickly stopped by Veronica who spotted the signs. Their relationship grew in the film because of this event. There was genuine caring and support that Veronica had with HM that she didn’t have with the other Heathers and I wonder if that will ever be explored in the show. I would love to see Veronica being friends with HM and Martha in the show, if the show doesn’t die a quick death, because those were the relationships that were being created at the end of the film so we didn’t get the chance to explore them further. Veronica saw the pain these women were having and made an effort to befriend and help them after they had both attempted suicide. That is something that would be really cool to explore, but I doubt they ever will.
Wait, so Heather Chandler didn’t die?
She did not. The final moments of the episode flashback to earlier that day where HC wakes up in the morning after having smashed through her table and seemingly died the previous night. At first, she’s pissed and is prepared to make Veronica and JD’s lives a living hell, that is, until she checks her phone and realises just how much more popular she has become now that people believe her to be dead. 
And that’s where we leave things. We get a little sneak peek of episodes to come. HC will seemingly blackmail Veronica and JD to help bring about “justice” for her. Which appears to take the form of killing other students and framing them as suicides at HC’s request.
Final Thoughts
I think this could have been a really cool show had certain monikers not been attached. This show is both trying to pay homage to the film and be its own thing, and I feel like that could lead to its downfall. If the character had different names, this could be a really cool stand-alone show. The plot of the show will obviously have to deviate from the film to allow for multiple episodes, so it’s really only similar in a general concept and sporting characters with identical names to the film and musical.
Had this show been a looser adaptation/reboot or had it only been inspired by the film I could see it having a much longer life than it probably will. While I love the allusions to the film, this show is a drastic departure, and although I don’t hate it and could admire it as it’s owe thing (had the title been different and the characters’ names changed), I won’t be watching it any further.
If I’m a “stan” for anything, it would be the 1988 cult classic on which this show is based. But I just feel that the show is both trying really hard to be it’s own unique thing while also trying to be a love-letter to the film and I think that’s where it’s going to struggle.
